Volleyball Champions League / WorldLeague: Mardi Volleyball Palace (Capacity: 48,000)

A state of art building, the Volleyball Palace was made under the assumption that Mardi would see again an Autumn Festival. While that never happened, the arena would then be used to teach young volleyball players and now awaits for a Mardi franchise not based after a football team.

Colisee de Quebec, another historic arena by itself, is a true historic building. Long run down but still standing, it is one of the last old-guard arenas still in operation and under excellent shape. Still going strong, it boasts features that many modern arenas lag behind; The atmosphere is incredible, the views terrific from any seat in the house, and 15,000 fans at any junior game makes it a big event. If one is interested in seeing the way hockey used to be in 1990s, this arena is the place to go to. Excellent Korean street food and traditional beverages are bonus as well.

Then it comes to the Quebec City itself, it is a truly wonderful place. The nation's capital, most historic city, home of the Royal House of Jeongs, Royal Parliament and many government institutions. Bastion of traditions, Korean-Franco pride and classical antiquity. Quebec City is called the City of Light, and is one of the most romantic cities in the world. It is the national and global centre of culture, art, fashion and cuisine, as well as intellectuals who have come from all across the world, making it a true metropolis among global citizens. Culturally it is still with a strong Franco-Korean component and heritage; though significant influence does come from overseas, they often are absorbed into the greater Quebecois culture to be a part of it. It is a true place to be, and for anyone with ambitions and dreams of succeeding as intellectual or artisan, Quebec City is where you strive to find yourself in the position.

Final Site Selection

Three volleyball associations expressed interest in hosting either WorldLeague or Volleyball Champions' League (and one association for just the VCL) and eventually submitted the required paperwork within the deadline. With there being conflicts for which bid to vote on, the election of the venue for this year's competitions was expected to be once again very competitive and controversial.

For three bidders associated with the World Volleyball Championships (Unified Sunrise Islands, Kitsunia-Deese, Banija, Royal Kingdom of Quebec), the delegates were given one specific mission. Under the recommendation of Sir. Edgar Curtis, the secretary-general of the IVF, the committee decided to have each delegation challenge to a challenge of shooting 6 rounds for men's 10m air pistol.

Later that week.... :
1 Kitsunia-Deese 96 96 97 95 97 95 576
2 Royal Kingdom of Quebec 94 95 96 96 96 96 573
3 Banija 96 95 95 97 96 94 573
4 Unified Sunrise Islands 94 95 95 94 94 96 568

With the Kitsunian delegation outperforming the other three, Stade de Forest, Kitsunia-Déesse will host the Volleyball Champions' League 3 (Capacity : 15,000) from Quarterfinals.

In the meanwhile, three bidders interested in Volleyball Champions' League competitions (Kitsunia-Deese, Unified Sunrise Islands, Royal Kingdom of Quebec), the delegates ended up on a task even more challenging: racing 69 laps in endurance race over the picturesque but very risky Mount Chiak racecourse. With the ski resort and jumping centre around 1,470 metres high and there being many turns, hills and curves, they have to be extra careful on making sure not to crash, fall, receive serious injuries or die.

Later that day......:
1 Royal Kingdom of Quebec 2:05:43.226
2 Kitsunia-Deese 2:05:47.285
— Unified Sunrise Islands DNF lap 23

The International Volleyball Federation would like to send their condolences to the loved ones of the Sunrisian delegate.

With that being said the chosen stadium, based on the results, for the WorldLeague 3 was Colisee de Quebec, Quebec City (Capacity: 19,800).

As for the World Beach Volleyball Championships, since there was no bid by any delegation, it will be hosted in the IVF default venue of Marijuana Beach, California City, Royal Kingdom of Quebec (Capacity: 10,930).

In an effort to revitalize the international volleyball scene, in continuation with the return of the World Volleyball Expo. Anyway, I figured the Taeshan Volleyball League should make it's triumphant...beginning I guess. Anywho here is the first season table. If any sort of Champions league is started, we'll look into it. Now the exciting results.

Hello all. After five RL years of absence, it is time to revive the domestic volleyball scene on its own newswire.

Once again, if you are reading this thread, Welcome once again to the International Domestic Volleyball Newswire Thread.

The International Volleyball Federation, working in cooperation with the Volleyball World Expo Board that's responsible sport's national team championship, is the highest body of domestic volleyball clubs, headquartered in the city of Montreal, Quebec and Shingoryeo.

The IVF is in charge of organising 2 championships: Volleyball Champions League (VCL) and WorldLeague:
  • The Volleyball Champions League is open to the top 2 clubs of the nation's domestic volleyball league and will be, for the time, played in one venue submitted.
  • The WorldLeague is only open to the national team of your nation's volleyball association and will be played in one venue submitted. Given that the VWE is hosted every cycle since its return on mid-2020, with most nations running two or four years every cycle, you are more than welcome to roleplay WorldLeague as held on the alternating years.
  • For World Beach Volleyball Championships, two pairs per association will be accepted, with all competition to be played in one venue.

When it comes to scorinating volleyball, the latest version of Xkoranate will be used, with the FIVB point rules applied (3 for 3-1 or 3-0 wins, 2 for 3-2 wins, 1 for 2-3 losses and 0 for rest).

A maximum of one puppet, and two nations overall, from a user will be allowed to enter the competition in a season. There'll be no restrictions on number of teams for the puppet. Entries for these two competitions are to be formatted as followed:

Samplestan (XYZ) qualifiers
master nation of Sampleland (ZYX)
VCL: 1093 Sampleton, Sampleville Tigers
WorldLeague: Samplestan
WBVC: Sample A/Sample B, Sample C/Sample D

Host bids for each competition finals may be made in a separate box as shown below. Bids for the Volleyball Champions League must have a seating capacity of at least 5,000, while bids for the WorldLeague must have a seating capacity of at least 6,000. In both cases, a host city, in which the stadium is located, must be announced as well.

Here's an example of final site bids:

Samplestan (XYZ) final site bids
Volleyball Champions League / WorldLeague: Sampleton Coliseum (Capacity: 10,930)
Sampleton Coliseum is home to the 1093 Sampleton. Well-known as the "Margaret's Volleyball Crib", it is one of the oldest arenas in the nation still used for volleyball. It plays host to the 1093 Sampleton's Volleyball, Basketball and Handball teams, as well as its university teams. Sampleton is well known as the volleyball capital of the Samplestan, as well as the key producer of Samplestan's duck meat.

Questions and suggestions about the thread should be sent to this nation via telegram, or enquired on Discord.

The submission deadline for the all of WorldLeague, Volleyball Champions League and World Beach Volleyball Championship, will be 29 July 2021, 17:00 Seoul time.

The Vreton City State Indoor stadium was originally made for hosting of the first edition of the Handball Cup and the Handball League from then on. However with the decision to create a Volleyball League and a small branch of the BSF (Bollonischian Sporting Federation) called the Volleyball Union (BVU). Following the creation of a league the question arose of where the matches would be played and the Vreton City State Handball Stadium was chosen which due to this was rebranded into the Vreton City State Indoor Stadium with a capacity of 25,000 people.
Vreton is the capital of Bollonich, and the main hub for tourists visiting Bollonich. Vreton has a very active night life and a number of quality hotels and restaurants. Vreton is also located on the coast meaning weather is reasonable and also the presence of beaches which are greatly famous. Vreton and Bollonich has also been host to the 23rd Handball World and shown a high standard while hosting international tournaments.

Volleyball is an extremely popular sport within Mytanija, particularly among women, with it enjoying the largest participation numbers for women out of any team sports. The MOF Top League is seen as the equivalent of football's Top League for Mytanar women, with wages not being significantly below those that footballers take home. The MOF Top League has been traditionally dominated by the sports' so-called 'big three': Olympic, Litala ’93 and OK Rauchnya. This represents quite a dramatic geographic spread of teams, with Olympic being based in Thessia, Litala ’93 in the capital Esca and OK Rauchnya in the region's second city Severyan. Due to the popularity of the sport there are teams throughout Mytanija, but only those three have ever managed to win a championship. Olympic and Litala ’93 split the first twelve seasons with 6 title apiece before OK Rauchnya burst onto the scene and since then it has pretty much always been a three-horse race for the Top League title. The three have fostered excellent youth systems for the sport, drawing the best talent from their local area and this means they consistently produce some of the nation's top volleyball stars. They often produce so many good players that some cannot actually get a game with the club's first team and therefore some women have had to leave the 'big three' clubs to leave to smaller teams in order to compete in the Top League.

In the past national team players have almost exclusively come from the 'big three' clubs, but in recent years that has changed and more teams now have a realistic chance at a league title. Atletik have developed a young team which has plenty of talent, whilst Avnalia Odbojka and Dinamo Esca are following a similar trajectory. Akademija, the national academy team, is constantly producing new talent too and it means that they can be very competitive. Those players then move on to other teams once they reach the age of 22 at Akademija. It has made a for a more competitive league and that has led to greater investment, with television companies eager to pay for exclusive rights to show one of the strongest volleyball leagues. Greater foreign investment has only furthered this and it means that international stars are increasingly choosing to play volleyball in Mytanija due to the better wages on offer. The MOF are optimistic that a strong domestic game will only help the quality of the national team, something everybody can get behind as Mytanija look to build on the VWE 11 victory with more success. Let's see what happened this season:

## Top League Pld W L SF SA S. Avg
01 Litala ’93 60 52 8 166 52 3.192 C, VCL

03 Dinamo 60 44 16 148 79 1.873
04 Atletik 60 44 16 151 83 1.819
05 OK Rauchnya 60 43 17 152 87 1.747
06 Akademija 60 35 25 133 106 1.255
07 Avnalia Odbojka 60 34 26 131 110 1.191
08 NK Thessia 60 26 34 116 132 0.879
09 VK Magevskaya 60 25 35 105 136 0.772
10 Arka 60 21 39 98 134 0.731
11 Crvena Zvezda 60 21 39 98 145 0.676
12 Meja 60 20 40 98 139 0.705
13 Ribari 60 20 40 90 145 0.621
14 NK Dyka 60 18 42 89 150 0.593 R
15 Centralni 60 16 44 84 157 0.535 R
16 Eskobirsk 60 11 49 74 165 0.448 R

Litala ’93 go back-to-back as champions with an unbelievable season. They lost a mere eight games throughout the entire campaign and dominated from start to finish. A sensational squad under national team manager Radina Ristic bossed their way to the club's 10th MOF Top League title and you wouldn't bet against them making it three in a row next time around. Mira Gushtanova continued her amazing form with another individual scoring title, she has been nearly unplayable at both domestic and international level for a couple of years now. This season only went further in establishing her as one of the greatest scorers in volleyball, perhaps in the sport's entire history. Special mention has to go to Milka Marovic, the veteran setter and captain of this squad, she turned 34 at the end of this season and will be calling time on a fantastic career as she looks to start a family away from volleyball. She has won all there is to win as a player, although she might be disappointed that she won't get a chance to compete in the Volleyball Champions' League with Litala next season, glory there would have rounded off an outstanding career. Marovic decided it was time to call it a day though and she hasn't ruled out a return to the sport in a coaching capacity at some point in the future.

Olympic Thessia couldn't make it their 15th Top League title, the signing of Græntfjall's volleyball prodigy Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir was a masterstroke and she figured in a brilliant campaign which would usually have been enough to win the league. If it hadn't been for a sensational Litala ’93 team we might well have been discussing the signing of Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir as being pivotal in deciding the destination of the title. As it is she and her team will have to wait until the end of next season to try and lift the trophy. Olympic have an ageing squad outside of Nyagũthiĩ and Safija Bojic so we might well see them active in the transfer market as they look to move their squad towards a younger age profile. Dinamo have been gradually developing in recent years with a young core of players like Marija Georgijevic, Zeljana Kuzmanovic and Anica Simic all coming through the ranks at the same time. Prior to this season Dinamo were intelligent when signing players and brought in experienced MOF Top League players like Ruzica Gavrilovic and Hasija Susic at the end of their contracts (from Litala and Olympic respectively). Those wily veterans came together with Dinamo's home-made prospects to form an excellent unit and ended up overtaking some of the traditional secondary powers in Mytanar volleyball in the process, including Atletik Thessia and OK Rauchnya. They did it by the narrowest of margins, but what a fantastic team and Dinamo will not want to stop there.

It might be disappointing for Atletik and OK Rauchnya, but they both have relatively young squads and will believe that their title windows are wide open. It is difficult when constantly bumping up against two teams that have the quality of Litala ’93 and Olympic Thessia at the top of the domestic game and trying to break their duopoly is a tough task which requires a long-term outlook. The youthful rosters Atletik and OK Rauchnya have at their disposal should provide them with encouragement. Akademija are another team who have a young squad - one which is enforced by the team's status as a de facto national academy team - and they had a brilliant season finishing in the top six. Akademija could really do something amazing with their current group of players, only two of their starting six are leaving after they met the upper age limit of the team. That could give those remaining the chance to really fight on and accomplish something special, even if finishing so high up the standings with such a young team is really creditable in itself. Avnalia Odbojka have been struggling to recover from a few of their key players leaving in recent years and 7th represents a real down year for them, they will be confident in their ability to produce replacements given their track record. Avnalia's population could provide the biggest obstacle to them returning to a higher league position in the future.

At the opposite end of the table two teams which were promoted only last season, Centralni and Eskobirsk, return to whence they came following poor campaigns. NK Dyka taste double relegation after their football team dropped out of the Top League and now the club's volleyball department does the same. A bad year for them as a sports club. Better news for Arka Snezhnaya though, they were promoted last season and managed to comfortably retain their Top League status to mimic their football team's last day heroics. The women were a little more comfortable on the volleyball court though, finishing three games ahead of the final relegation place.

None of the relegated sides from last season's Top League managed to go straight back up, demonstrating the competitive level of play in the Druga Liga. CDSA were the best team in the division and will hope they can build on this as they look to establish a strong volleyball programme, Padina always do well for a club from a small town in every sport they compete in and they will be playing Top League volleyball next season whilst JK Ebor managed to sneak into the final promotion spot in the final few weeks of the season.

Procedural Notes

  • All entries were accepted.
  • The late entries from Mytanija and The Hinodejin Empire were accepted.
  • There are eighteen entries from nine nations, with six entries from ranked associations per the Volleyball World Expo. While the IVF is not governed under the VWE, the relatively intimate nature that exist between the two competitions would mean that the associations with history in VWE better be given priorities. Thus, with this in mind, minor ranking points to a substantial degree would be given to the clubs belonging to six associations who have participated in the most recent VWE as well. Those are Bollonich, Chromatika, Felinetopia, Hispinas, Mytanija and Quebec and Shingoryeo. For the purpose of this competition, the clubs belonging to the six associations will be marked as ranked associations and be given equal number of points.
  • As someone who was behind the original three editions of IVF, who is returning with a slightly revamped format, the specific format choice for IVF tournaments, as well as VWE, may require a bit of explanation behind why there is also a WorldLeague, a competition for national teams, as opposed to just keeping the competitions domestic-based, and also on why the IVF and to lesser extent VWE have relatively longer and complicated formats.

In real life, a couple of difference does make volleyball a bit of outlier. The relatively limited number of prominent leagues, as well as the smaller financial power and pie of the volleyball leagues and teams compared to other nations, have often meant that there have always been lots of international competitions to start with, whether with always-greedy FIVB or regional confederations. That is partly why the summers and to lesser extent autumns have always been busy with international tournaments, whether it be ever-so-flawed World League/Grand Prix or its current successor in Volleyball Nations League, as well as the World Cup, Grand Champions Cup and the recently-instituted Grand Champions' Cup.

I do have a range of mixed feelings about instituting real-life formats into the competitions, and have often advocated for different formats in other sports. For volleyball, however, the status of NSS volleyball as sport remains fairly consistent to the real-life, so it makes sense for the return of domestic volleyball and its int'l championships, represented by IVF, to incorporate the real-life models.

Thus, for the course of the Volleyball domestics during my time as the coordinator, it is expected that I incorporate those formats. For the time being, WorldLeague is expected to incorporate the format of the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, while the Volleyball Champions League will be based on the format of the CEV Champions' League (men's), especially as the FIVB equivalent is simply incompatible of a format in the NSS world where regional slots make little sense.

Final Site Selection

Vreton City State Indoor Stadium in Vreton, Bollonich will host the Volleyball Champions League and the WorldLeague of the IVF III cycle. As for the World Beach Volleyball Championship, Seunghakpo Beach in Halifax, Quebec and Shingoryeo, will host the entire competition.
