Northern Sloddovian Authority was established as sovereign caretaker government for new federal states, most of them in Northern border area. After that, Northern Sloddovia than gracefully integrate its state into Ikherian governance, and eventually, transfer the control of these states and disband itself 5 year later.

Marshite Dominance in the Sea of Faith Confirmed; Theocracy to Expand?

Reuia, Shesharlie- Captain Everian Emelia of the 8089th Infantry stood tall atop the armored personnel carrier with field glasses in one hand and her pistol in the other. She stared into the line of MNRA prisoners captured by those under her command, each one with a different version of shellshock playing across their face. A burning compound was placed not far off of her right shoulder, the smell of flame and flesh intermingling in the twilight sky.

One of them saluted the young captain and spoke with an even smile, "All clear! No hostiles!".

The Captain grinned as she turned to the assembled reporters and said, "Took them long enough, but it looks like we can keep going without too many worries," She gestured to her men and turned back to us. "You're lucky you're with us right now. All that's left for us to do is to clean up."

This was one out of many situations developing on the island as the Theocracy continues to pursue the completion of all operations here with unprecedented speed and force. And right now, under an early night lit with fires, it seems that Marshite forces will continue to push inland to ensure that the opposing force will cease all hostilities. And with them shall Captain Emelia and her men join.

She and her men would have come from one of the new landings (Two new landings had been made.) made just hours after the initial ones had been made and accomplished. Dozens of Marshite regiments have already offloaded in what the Theocracy has called 'light onshore operations'. They have been joined by around half a dozen heliborne assaults as well as two paratrooper regiments landing further inland. Reports state that more are possibly on their way from the nearest bases and staging areas but these remain unconfirmed as no new statements have been released by the government concerning any future reinforcements. But it seems likely that there could be no necessity in this. Opening decapitation strikes were wildly successful and the remains of the MNRA, leaderless and rudderless, continued to be destroyed by Marshite aircraft before any ground engagement began. What few skirmishes have popped up have resulted in zero marshite casualties and several hundred MNRA KIA, not to mention over a thousand captured.

The success of the opening strikes has been attributed to the turning of key assets inside the MNRA who reportedly gave the Theocracy intelligence indicating the whereabouts of all major MNRA leadership and garrisons, in exchange for safety after it became clear the Theocracy would respond to anti-Marshite aggression. This has resulted in the complete, or near complete, destruction of the MNRA in the opening strokes of the campaign. Once numbering near 7,000, the portion of the MNRA that was not turned and is expected to still be actively capable of engagement numbers no more than 150-200, and are contained within two small complexes in a remote part of the island.

Military observers are continuing their entry into the islands, with the majority being Solisian. One notable participant is Major Amaris Vera, an Azen-Nannasian paratrooper and winner of the Union Cross. "It is an honor granted to myself and the entire Solisian Union that her Marshite allies invite us here so that we may come and see how they perform without having us simply witness exercise after exercise. And it is an honor given to our Marshite friends that we accompany them here to grant them our advice and our insights," the Major spoke while embedded with the intelligence detachment of the 500th Airborne Division, which launched the two airdrop operations in north-central Shesharlie.

The major and her staff, along with fellow observers, declined to provide further statements but we have been given word by them that the Union has sent her best marine and paratrooper officers as well as naval and army personnel to personally witness this unfold. There has been no news to add regarding the possibility of additional observers or the possibility that this may be the beginning of a new chapter in the joint history of the militaries of Holy Marsh and the Solisian Union. The Solisian military and government have both released statements confirming that there is no intention for the Union to officially involve themselves in the ongoing invasion in the Sea of Faith except to send out military observers and to render all possible non-military aid to the Marshites and to the civilian populations in the islands.

In the Ishtari Sultanate on Ixana, Marshite forces continue to pursue their objectives as more and more factions, most especially those loyal to the Sultana herself, have come finally to a general agreement in Dezzair. This is an agreement to friendly relations and cooperation. The factions considered disloyal have been given 24 hours to throw down their arms or face a direct assault by the growing Marshite military presence on the island. With the growing alliance arrayed against them backed by the Theocracy, it is expected disloyal factions will acede to this demand in quick order. It is becoming more and more likely that the Sultana will be able to work together with Marshite forces to bring an end to all possible bloodshed on the island.

Of course, the Sultana is expected to have concerns. Outside of the small Ranger contingent in the capital itself, the Marshites have stuck mostly to the north, where the majority of Ixanan Marshites live. These areas have had their old governance mostly discarded in the name of efficiency, but part of the landings included civilian administrative staff who immediately began installing Theocratically approved government structures. How such a situation could exist on the island considering it is Sultanate property is currently unknown, but Tarvencore is expected to provide answers.

Tarvencore's local government has already dissolved itself in accordance with an agreement with Lord-Commander Yurnada, who has placed it under a military administration while civilian administrative staff build a Theocratically approved government. The last act of the independent Tarvencore government was to create a legal document affirming their absorbption into the Theocracy, signed off by the Lord-Commander and sent to the Bishop's Council for approval. This is expected to pass, which would make Tarvencore part of the Theocracy. It would seem this will be the fate of all three islands, in due time.

Future updates will be provided as the situation continues to proceed.

Operations Over in the Sea of Faith

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- The 88th Crusade Group has formalized the end of all combat operations on Shesharlie following an attack by paratroopers on the last confirmed hideout of MNRA agitators. The 145 remaining members of the MNRA were either killed or captured in the attack, which also resulted in two wounded Marshite soldiers. With the destruction of this last remaining cell, Shesharlie has been deemed clear of enemy combatants. While such a proclamation can never be entirely certain, it is clear that the MNRA and its associated organizations have been reduced to pale shadows, if not even being completely destroyed. Marshite villages and communes on the island have responded to the events of the past twenty-four hours with mass celebration, while other peoples have joined in, if a little more subdued. In a pattern that is now a repeat of Ixana and Tarvencore, civilian administrators from the Theocracy have been busy installing government structures that align with Church doctrine. This is lending credence to a belief that all three islands are likely to be annexed into the Theocracy in the coming days.

This theory has been given wide support by the events on Tarvencore, where a ready-made government is appearing to be put in place with astonishing speed. Already the aptly named Tarvencore Administrative Collective has taken over most native institutions and works, and is staffed mostly by those who were doing it before. The TAC is headed by Head Baarquess Panja Oguia, who is noted for specializing in the quick re-emergence of government control in regions being reclaimed from The Flesh That Hates and other Biozones. This has led many observers to conclude that Tarvencore is days away from being formally annexed.

In Ixana, high-level meetings between the Sultana and Marshite representatives have been ongoing for several hours. While the nature of these meetings are unknown, it has been noted that the Sultan's Guard have been disarmed and Wasari Palace itself seemingly being under Marshite occupation. With multiple new regiments of Marshite regulars having landed on the island and the disarming of loyalist factions being confirmed- ostensibly to protect the safety and lives of the populace- it is believed that administration of the islands is falling out of the Ishtari Sultanate's hands. Meanwhile, in the outskirts of the urban province, a short class between incoming Marshite forces and those loyal to the Sultana's uncle proved decisive, with several dozen armored vehicles and scores of dead Ishtari Agitators littering the area. They were believed to be part of the 5th Martyrs Brigade, one of only a few units to resist the Marshites. With such heavy losses, it is not known how much longer any such resistance will continue, if it will at all.

Solisian National Elections Begin

Today marks the official beginning of the national elections in the Solisian Union. On the 10th hour of the morning, official announcements were released from the government starting in La Honor, La Victoria Canton. Soon enough, the announcements were repeated all over the Union as President Atalaya Rivas once again spoke to the people.

In a simple long skirt and jacket, the President and the official candidate of the Solisian Socialist Party said:

"Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Union and in the political history of its peoples. From every corner of the Union, I call upon every citizen who is able to participate in the affairs of the Union to do so with truth and with dignity and with interest. For it is today that the National Elections shall commence. And today, I sincerely wish for all to do their best.

Long live the Union. Long live the people. Long live the future and the happiness of all.

May the sun forever shine upon the face of our Union and may the moon forever guide us through the darkness and may the stars forever light our way.

Long live Solisia!"

Aurania Salazar of the Azen Traditionalist Party stated, hours after the President had done so, to her supporters: “Azenia depends on all of you and our party hopes strongly that you will all do your part. In the name of our people, and in the name of all we hold dear, vote!”

Meanwhile, Prince Hasan Catic of the Alliance of Mantagonia said: “On this day, we, the souls of Mantagonia, do hereby devote ourselves to the hope that we shall prevail.”

The Federalist Party, the Independent Alliance, and the Solisian Communist Party all declined to provide further comment and chose instead to begin their campaigns immediately. Meanwhile, Manuela Abarquero, candidate of the Military Protection Party, simply refused to give any comment and Marco Jimenez of the United Solisia Glory Party was not available for comment as the organization released an official statement that Marco was 'busy attending to the birth of his daughter.'

Despite the slight tension brought about by the tragedy of Robredarcas and increasing pressures between secularists and supporters of religious rights, the Union seems to have lifted in spirit as the first day of elections opened with a round of announcements and statements which are to be followed by various events and visits.

For now, rallies and marches and other events continue. Parties and dinners are being prepared as well as various functions and gatherings. Things seem to be picking up rather quickly. But it is a strong belief that the Union shall have peace, as it had hoped in the days leading up to the beginning, for the current elections, just as peace reigned over all the national elections since the birth of the Union.

Due to the beginning of the elections, the Union has announced that, in the wake of the end of Marshite operations in the Sea of Faith, as well as other ongoing events around the world, the military forces of the Union shall 'continue to stand firm to preserve the security and integrity of the Union.' The government however announced that 'the armed forces of the Union shall be encouraged to put up a stronger and more forceful stance to deter all possible threats from the outside.'

The RMU has been informed by the Solisian Union that the government has wished to 'request a significant but reasonable presence of allied forces close or within the Union' while also inviting RMU officials and other individuals deemed important or graced with privilege to 'witness the proceedings.'

The Union has also chosen to inform their neighboring states that 'the borders of the Union shall continue to be open, but a greater presence of personnel is to be expected.' Beginning tomorrow, the Union expects several troops to arrive at the borders and report for duty.

The government has stated that all military personnel as well as other emergency personnel shall be given alternative means to participate in the elections. This shall provide them uninterrupted means to take part in what one Solisian considered as 'the most valuable event of the lives of every person of age in the entirety of the Union.'

Mushroom Island Expectations Unchanged

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- Solisian officials are expected to make their annual request for transfer of control over the Mushroom Islands, an island chain off of the coast of Holy Marsh that was leased in perpetuity some seven hundred years ago. Recently, Solisian politicians and a growing percentage of the Union's populace views the islands as Elizarin territory by right and have requested its transfer back. While those involved on both sides view the matter seriously, it is not a major bone of contention. After the entrance of the Solisian Union into the Romani-Mar'si Union it is more an issue of symbology rather than function, yet it remains a goal for many Elizarin politicians to 'reclaim' the land that they settled.

The chain now known as the Mushoom Islands was settled by Elizarin explorers in late 13th century. While small Marshite settlements were already existing on the island (and forms part of the reason the Theocracy has refused to return the chain), the Elizarins colonized the island en masse, followed by other ethnic groups from the Solisian continent. However, soon after the islands became home to a swarming mass of Marshites who were fleeing the collapse of the eastern coastline. While hundreds of millions would die in the bloodbath after the Cult pushed through the final line of defenses in the region, millions managed to find safety in the Mushroom islands.

Tensions rose between the Marshites and Elizarins until the Theocracy approached them with an offer. Joined together with hatred against the Cult, the Elizarins agreed to lease the island to the Theocracy in perpetuity in exchange for having their own rights and lifestyles unaffected on the islands. The Theocracy agreed and the great naval base at Tascar- the centuries long headquarters of the Marshite Eastern Fleet- as well as the metropolis of Tabula were born. These cities, along with the rest of the chain, have flourished ever since under Marshite administration but with a significant population of Elizarins and other Solisian ethnicities.

The islands are an unusual mix of Solisian and Marshite culture. While the Marshite faith is overwhelmingly dominant and there is a Theocratically bred strain of militarism amongst the population, Elizarin and Solisian economic and political rights have made the islands a distinct other in Marshite lands. Many things that do not exist in the Theocracy- a free press, mostly free market, and open allowance of heretical speech- have existed in the island chain for some time. While the entrance into the Union of Solisia and the agreement of the Elizarins to those conditions has made the latter far less tolerable, it still stands as a political, economic, and social outsider to the Theocracy.

This has led some to postulate that there is no need for the Theocracy to maintain control while the Union could use it as a way to establish control over a greater number of foreign bases for its military. The Theocracy has been more blunt- it is considered Marshite territory as it has been so for the longest and most important period. The late Arch-Bishop Lainika, responding to a question about the Theocracy's sixth refusal to transfer it, was quoted as saying, "It is their right to ask, our right to deny, and your obligation to not care.'

This state of affairs is not expected to change under Arch-Bishop Luboski.

Kelso: Balmes Takes Civic Platform Nomination for Mayor
November Faceoff Set Against Popular Socialist Incumbent Mike Curtis, Free Democrat’s Alan Billings

As expected insurance executive Tom Balmes swept two opponents in today’s Civic Platform primary, easily swamping Greg Hood and Kevin Harris by a margin of 57% to 32% to 11% to capture the conservative party’s nomination for mayor of the nation’s largest city. Mr. Balmes swept all sectors of the party’s electorate including all demographic groups and carrying all but two wards, which fell to Mr. Hood. Although well entrenched in City Council and the Council President and City Auditor offices, elected Civic Platform officials declined to challenge the popular Curtis, leaving it to the three candidates to battle it out in what has been described as a lackluster campaign. Few controversies arose during the campaign, with all three candidates agreeing on a platform of guarding against tax increases, a hawkish approach to budgeting, and maintaining established standards in the public schools. Mr. Harris did raise eyebrows when mentioning Bay of Chains refugees in a discussion of crime rates in the South Side’s South Lawndale neighborhood, but was not challenged at the time either by Mr. Balmes or Mr. Hood. Mr. Harris and Mr. Hood immediately pledged support for Mr. Balmes in their concession speeches. Mr. Harris returns to his job as a plant engineer at Kavadrek Fasteners, and Mr. Harris will continue in his partnership at the law firm of Burnside, Jerstad, Lomax and Henry. Mr. Balmes, a Senior Manger in the accounting department of heath insurer Favanex has served for five years on the Kelso Transportation Authority Board of Supervisors.

Fireworks can be expected as the campaign goes forward provided by the Free Democrat’s Billings, and second term member of the Ghastak. While he has not made waves in the lower house of the legislature, Mr. Billings has been harshly critical of the mayor since the start of Mr. Curtis’ term four years ago. Free Democrat leaders shied away from taking on the popular incumbent early this year leaving the field open to the more excitable legislator. Some of Mr. Billings claims have been seen as demagogic and harsh, particularly in the local press. He has found doors closed to him across the financial and tech sectors in Kelso. President Shrdlu and Vice President Koubek have been noticeably quiet about the contest in the nation’s biggest city. Following nationwide trends in recent years, the more extreme parties have encountered difficulty in candidate recruitment. Right wing National Democrats, still reeling from defections to Civic Platform and Free Democrats in last year’s legislative elections failed to field a mayoral candidate in Kelso. They have put up a contender for Council President, but she is given little chance of pulling in any significant number of votes. The Communists similarly declined to contest Mayor Curtis, instead pouring their resources in protecting the council seats they currently hold. Two professors broached the subject of making a run early in the year, one in Political Science and one in Music. Ward leaders and union officials alike rejected their initiatives, with General Laborer’s Union District President advising them “shut up!”

Socialist leaders in Kelso are optimistic for Mayor Curtis’ reelection chances. He has lead in all polls so far by commanding majorities. His genial personality and chumminess with the business community, particularly small business owners has been a big factor in his popularity in the city. After building his construction company from the ground up, the former bricklayer decided to take on his Civic Platform predecessor four years ago, taking the office with a 49% plurality. His can do attitude has been noticed across the country, giving him the reputation of “the Socialist you can work with”. Depending on the size of any re-election margin, he is being eyed by the more moderate and pragmatic elements of the party as possible standard bearer in next year’s presidential elections.

Massive Voter Presence and Great Support for the Socialists

As the first round of the election ends and the second begins, there are reports coming in from various local governments of the Union that voter turnout has been higher than expected. Voting stations reported that there has been swift and almost overwhelming stream of voters that requests have been made for additional voting machines and officials to assist.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that already there has been a great amount of support for the Socialists and for President Atalaya Rivas. Although there too is a huge wave of support for the Azen traditionalists and their candidate, Aurania Salazar, this does not seem to, as of yet, overturn the current trend which is in favor of Atalaya and her party.

As expected, several Mantagonians have come out to vote for Prince Hasan while several citizens in southern Solisia have thrown their votes in for either the Federalist Party or the Independent Alliance. The Communist Party has reported that a steady stream of voters have also come out to support them, but there are unconfirmed statements released just now that suggest that the Communist Party may undergo certain discussions with the Solisian Socialist Party.

They are not the only ones who seem to be interested in inter-party talks as the elections proceed. Already, there are rumors going around that several smaller parties are interested in joining with the larger parties which are opposed to the socialists. Though several candidates have refused to give comments , it seems to appear true that the Traditionalists and the Mantagonians are interested in entertaining the 'quiet invitations' of the MPP and the USG. However, the Federalists and the Independents do not seem interested, as both of their candidates have released a joint statement that says: "We are, as representatives of our organizations and therefore of our supporters, opposed to any sort of coalition which may establish us as explicitly opposed to our fellow citizens, no matter how we may disagree with them on certain things.'

Mushroom Islands Transferred to Solisian Control

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- In a stunning development, Arch-Bishop Luboski has agreed to hand over control of the Mushroom Islands to the Solisian Union before heading to Romandeos, an event that has sparked mass celebrations in the Solisian Union as well as a small degree of wonderment as to why the Arch-Bishop agreed. While the exact terms of the exchange are unknown it is the first land exchange between Romani-Mar'si States, and how it is done is expected to signal how the leadership of the Romani-Mar'si Union views such matters. For the people on the ground it is not expected to result in a massive change- as members of the Union, they will enjoy the same rights as before, with most changes being symbolic. However, the likely withdrawal of the GDS from the chain will leave a gap that is likely to be filled by an emergent private sector that will prove to be a natural evolution of Elizarin business practices.

While the exact reasons for this decision remain unknown, President Rivas stated that it came after a series of pleasant negotiations with the Arch-Bishop after her ascension. "I am pleased to announce that we have regained the island chain. We thank the Arch-Bishop for her wisdom and the Holy Marsh for the strength she gave to her chosen to take this step," the President said as she was mobbed outside of the airport after returning from the Theocracy. Other political parties congratulated the Solisian Union as a whole on this development, though those in the tightest races against President Rivas did not thank her personally. Indeed, it is difficult to know just what brought the Theocracy to the table in such a manner, but many speculate it may have to deal with Marshite internal politics more than any forward-thinking desire.

The exact date of the exchange is unknown, though it is expected to be within the year.

UIS Ends Ties with Sultanate

Image
by Shizuka Gozen, Officer for Information and Culture

AURORA - A stunning move from The Duchess Villa, as she has formally announced a termination of relations with the Sultanate of Kyrenaia, effective immediately. The UIS and Sultanate entered into a bilateral pact four years prior after a state visit from Her Highness the Duchess and Her Highness the Princess Gisella, which included a trade agreement, military defense pact (while still honoring AHSCA's Constitutional Commitment to Self-Defense only), open passport and visa programs and other cultural exchanges and information sharing. The Sultana, Razia-Sultana Umm Albilad along with a small envoy of other members of her court had paid an official visit to the UIS to discuss matters between them. Her Highness declined to give details of the nature of the talks or the sudden reasoning behind the ending of relations, only simply that the UIS and Sultanate have found a major disagreement with each other that cannot be simply rectified.

It is however, no secret that Her Highness has been in an open relationship with a member of the royal family. Princess Aurelia bint-Damir, a relationship while generally welcome in the UIS has been the subject of controversy for Her Highness' home country, and according to rumor and speculation, among members of her family, though UNICIM cannot independently verify these claims. With this dissolving of relations between the UIS and Sultanate, that does mean an end to the land yield agreement to allow them to establish their own military base, situated on the Northeastern Coastline, on the site of the former Himewari Village, a village taken by paid eminent domain for the allotment of their military facility. It was one of two foreign bases present on UIS Soil, the other belonging to the The People's Unified Federation of Mokastana (PUF) known officially as Aurora Naval Station and informally as the Mokan Naval Station which sits on the Northwestern coasts of Aurora Island.

Presently in the shadow of the now decommissioning base, sits the village of Narima, a village which has dealt with the base for the past four years, most residents there are saying they're sad to see the base go, noting the stationed personal there to usually be friendly. There are certainly concerns about who will enter to fill the void of the base or will the base return to nature to allow a potential resettlement of the former Himewari Village? According to UIS Treasury Officer Violetta and Interior Officer Alexandra, that is a complicated matter, assessing the environmental impact of lifting materials such as asphalt and concrete, soil erosion and overall cost. It is possible with the size and space of the land, a new facility could be set up by another foreign power such as PUF, The Grand Theocratic Empire of Holy Marsh, or certainly The Imperium of The Federalis Imperium of Astares Amauricanum, which noticeably has set up shop in nearby Matildas Cluster, home to former indgeginous clusters, former UISDF Training grounds, and weather stations scattered about. UNIFRO and UNIOD have not commented on the future of the former Naval Station. As hurricane season is upon us, response times to disasters such as that also remain a concern as is law enforcement to protect AHSCA's civil maritime fleet. Reassurances are being made however that things will continue as normal and always have been in the absence of another power.

News of this sudden ceasing of relations is starting to garner attention in the international community. While most of AHSCA's neighbors are occupied with with the ongoing land run of the former Craxx Empire, others like The Kingdom of Mervay are showing concern about the sudden military imbalance of the territorial waters of AHSCA. Her Royal Majesty of Mervay, Callista IV
as well as the Mervay Minister of Foreign Affairs and Her Majesty's Chancellor, Jessica Dileva, whom also was the former Ambassador to AHSCA From Mervay, expressed concern over this sudden shift in foreign policy, hoping to be a mediator between the two nations which upon another reach out to UNIFRO, Duchess Villa has welcomed the Mervay oversight for this matter; these talks are expected in the coming days.

This story is still currently developing and we'll bring you more information as we receive. Please continue to rely on dispatches from UNICIM for reliable news out of the UIS.

KRASNOVAN LIKUTATS RATIFIED AS NEW MEMBERS
OF THE IMPERIAL FEDERATION OF THE GOLDEN THRONE

Image

Fedorograd — The Imperial Bureaucracy has ratified the Treaty of Fedorograd between itself and the newly formed Krasnovan Likutats, bringing these into the imperial federation of the Golden Throne. Liberated during the Fourth Krasnovan War, the treaty stipulates obligations to the Golden Throne, including taxes and property transfers, as well as those flowing in the opposite direction. War-weary and highly depopulated, the likutats enter a new period in their history — one, hopefully, of long-term peace, stability, and security under imperial guidance.

What does it mean to be a likutat? Until now, only the city of Tarn existed as a likutat within the imperial federation. Although Tarn is geographically part of Holy Panooly, it remains administratively separate and is ruled by its own council, and has its own laws although is subordinate to imperial law. Tarn negotiates its obligations directly with His Imperial Majesty and His representatives. Under its status as a likutat, Tarn has become the capital of private mercenary armies in Greater Díenstad, creating a thriving economy dominated by the PMC industry and its supply chain including arms distribution, recruitment services, insurance, and logistics. While similar levels of autonomy are largely enjoyed by the territories and satrapies, the independence of direct negotiation with the Imperial Bureaucracy gives Tarn a much greater range of freedom in determining its own future. While the administrative nature of the Krasnovan Likutats will vary somewhat from Tarn's example, given the empire's learnings after its experience with Tarn, the Panooly city nevertheless provides a good example of what this new status means for the liberated cities of Krasnova.

Status as a likutat comes with obligations to the Golden Throne, of course. Now legally recognized as "federates," peoples living within the legal jurisdictions of the likutats are eligible for recruitment into the Ejermacht. They are also enrolled into conscription rolls, for large-scale mobilizations. The cities must pay a tax known as the imperial levy, and for liberated Krasnova these will be quite heavy although most of the population is currently considered exempt due to conditions of extreme duress. But the war of liberation had further depleted an already overburdened imperial treasury and its costs will have to be borne in large part by the liberated cities themselves. It's not through just the imperial levy that the Imperial Bureaucracy will extract profit from its new subjects, but also through the sale of property titles to lands signed over to the estate of His Imperial Majesty in the treaty. Sold on the competitive private markets, they are typically purchased by large-scale firms or extremely wealth magnates, who then invest by using the property to build infrastructure, businesses, and homes. These land sales have long served as on the most immediate methods that the Imperial Bureaucracy employs to recoup its initial investment, that is the cost of military action.

For their part, the likutats are awarded a wide array of autonomies. These include the funding, recruitment, and organization of local policies forces. Each likutat will also have significant autonomy in setting local laws, with each free city operating on a hybrid legal system that incorporates elements of imperial property, commercial, and criminal law. Programs and infrastructure like education, health, energy, and water are also under local control, although heavily subsidized via imperial funding. Under the arrangement, each free city is responsible for a "hinterland" composed of rural and wildlands, as well as minor cities, towns, and villages within. The likutats are therefore responsible for the provision of public services to their hinterland, as they are for the collection of tax revenues.

Per the treaty's terms, the Imperial Bureaucracy has taken on responsibilities for the defense of the Krasnovan Likutats. Apart from binding their foreign policy with that of the empire as a whole, the Likutats will also host a considerably sized imperial garrison. Krasnova remains recognized as a warzone and therefore remains to a significant degree under quasi-military jurisdiction. This is represented by the appointment of a Vikaro, the first of its kind. The Vikaro will serve as a sort of imperial governor, performing as the main liaison between the Krasnovan Likutats and His Imperial Majesty. He also holds considerable veto power and is the head of the joint political-military which oversees the reconstruction and defense of liberated Krasnova. One of his responsibilities is the appointment of local kaudisi, who act in the executive role as counterparts to each likutat's democratic bicameral legislature. First to serve in this role is Díeg Hahk-Lorán.

Stepping down from his position as kríerlord within the imperial council, Díeg Hahk-Lorán steps into this new position after serving as the long-standing imperial representative to the now-defunct Satrapy of Pezlevko-Rubino. Hahk-Lorán had previously served as jogornos, or head of the diplomatic mission, to Safehaven. Subsequently, he oversaw the diplomatic negotiations over the annexation of parts of northern Safehaven as a result of that country's defeat in the War of Golden Succession. Recently, he served as jogornos to Mokastana during that country's war with the Reich in Krasnova. He was subsequently promoted to kríerlord, serving his brief tenure almost entirely in Pezlevko-Rubino. Because of his intimate knowledge of Krasnovan politics, Hahk-Lorán makes the ideal candidate for the position of Vikaro.

As a result of the treaty, the Satrapy of Pezlevko-Rubino is no more. Rubino and Pezelvko have, instead, been separated into independent likutats. Fedorograd, the vast military harbor turned burgeoning city, also receives jurisdictional autonomy and serves as the political capital of the Krasnovan Likutats. The fourth partition of the former imperial satrapy is the new likutat of Sofiatsyn, what the Imperial Bureaucracy calls the new Kysetian homeland. Sofiatsyn, named after the empress, was known as Fryatov before the war. It has served as the meeting grounds of the Kysetian great war council for generations and now serves as the capital of a steppe hinterland.

The great port city of Datosk, now renamed as Jonaksburg, is undergoing reconstruction at a grand scale. It will be built in the new imperial model, with grand boulevards decorated by triumphal arches, marble fountains, and stunning administrative buildings to complement a completely rehauled and expanded military and commercial port. Jonaksburg joins Fedorograd as the second capital of the Krasnovan Likutats. And while Fedorograd serves as the primary commercial port with respect to trade to and from Indras, Holy Panooly, and Theohuanacu, Jonaksburg is expected to service trade to and from New Empire and the imperial mainland continent.

Western Krasnova has experienced substantial depopulation as a result of Ordenite occupation and the four wars fought over its conquest. Hundreds of millions have died within less than a decade, an absolutely massive human toll. The area's economy is in shambles, if even existent. Ordenite occupation had come with little development, the local population used as little more than a pool of forced labor. The Golden Throne faces the challenge of making western Krasnova economically viable and an opportunity to create a new growing, long-term tax base. To do this it hopes to foster a stable political system focused on self-determination under the shadow of Ordenite Krasnova, which remains an omnipresent threat of which all the liberated cities will be keenly aware of after years of oppression. But, economic success will also require a restored population. For that, the Imperial Bureaucracy has a plan.

Hundreds of millions of military veterans are now returning from Gholgoth and being demobilized. 120 million veterans, as well as their families, will be settled throughout the Krasnovan Likutats. As part of their settlement, some — typically officers and longest-serving soldiers — will receive land and substantial loan subsidies. All will receive homes, most in newly constructed units in the cities. These veterans and families are expected to join the local economy, whether as workers, business people, or entrepreneurs. Western Krasnova may continue to be a destination for military veterans, as the Imperial Bureaucracy undoubtedly aims to turn the Krasnovan Likutats into a self-sufficient fortress capable of not just defending itself from Ordenite attack, but host the offensive military forces to push the Reich off the island altogether. The Imperial Bureaucracy, and by extension the Fuermak, most certainly consider themselves to be in a state of war with the Reich despite the signing of an armistice that calls for a two-year peace, after which the treaty must be extended by mutual consent every five years. These veterans will serve as the backbone to a resurgent population and will be joined by tens of millions of active military personnel, their families, as well as locals and immigrants seeking work in a vibrant new economy drive, at least at first, by the spending power of settler and military demand.

Because of the island's unique military demands, including its defense from the Ordenite Reich, the Krasnovan Likutats will host a garrison of substantial size. Because of the proximity of New Empire, Indras, and Holy Panooly, the Fuermak does not deem it necessary to deploy an offensively-minded force. Rather, the Golden Throne seeks to avoid finding itself on its backfoot, as it did in this last war. An estimated 40 million regulares will be deployed to Krasnova on a permanent basis. They will be joined by 80 million limikari, who will be valued as much for their spending power and families as for their security.

Although the Imperial Bureaucracy will want the new incorporations to begin growing commercially as soon as possible, it recognizes that this will not be an immediate outcome despite large-scale investments by the Golden Throne. One of the most pressing concerns will be military and civilian security within the likutats. Low-intensity fighting between Kysetian and Chernayan factions, for example, persist on the southern steppes. There is scattered military resistance amongst ex-Krasnovan Waffen SS now operating as insurgents, facing certain death as POWs. Insurgency is a phenomenon with which the Fuermak knows well, having followed most of its recent federal incorporations. Western Krasnova represents the first incorporation that will experience the limikari model alone, an approach to counterinsurgency that has seen gains in Pan-Zarbia, Indras, and Holy Panooly.

Kríergrup 'Indras,' previously stationed between Fedorograd and Vasozia (in Indras), will no longer be stationed at Fedorograd. Rather, Kríergrup 'Fedorograd' — freshly arrived from Gholgoth — will be assigned the port as its home. Kríergrup 'Jonaksburg,' also renamed and recently arrived from Gholgoth, will be stationed in its namesake port city as well. With a second kríergrup stationed Indras, this quadruples the original strength of the Kríermada in the area. These four fleet groups are now organized under Kríermak Krasnova.

Four wars have been fought over Krasnova in the past five years alone. Given that neither party seemingly walked away from the peace talks at the Imperial Unity entirely content, the omens portend that another one will be fought soon. The Krasnovan Likutats will therefore have to navigate the strange world of existing as a military fortress reinforced for the coming war, but one that is nonetheless expected to grow and thrive and act as a source of revenue for the Imperial Bureaucracy. What is clear is that the future of western Krasnova seems very 'Macabéan,' not just because of the millions of soldiers, but because of the deliberate policy of veteran settlement and the overall depopulation the country has suffered. Military veterans who joined the armed forces as federates, rather than as citizens, are granted citizenship rights. Thus, for as long as western Krasnova continues to be repopulated by other imperial populations with military retirement privileges one must wonder how long until said populations are eligible to renegotiate an upgrade to their status to province. Surely, as the Golden Throne seeks to reinforce its imperial defenses in central Greater Díenstad, it must be deliberately seeking to turn the Krasnovan Likutats into a long-term imperial bastion controlling the waters between New Empire and Indras.

This volatile mixture of new settlers, drained but proud locals of a great ethnic variety, and the spectre of renewed conflict between the Golden Throne and the Fourth Reich promise for an explosive future in Krasnova. Most Krasnovans probably look forward to a dull life once again, but this seems unlikely to come. And life as Krasnovans once knew it seven years ago will undoubtedly never be the same again.

Base Demolition Rattles Aurora

Image

The massive explosion of the Kyrenaian Base at Mokastana Point caused shock waves to be felt from north to south

No it wasn't thunder, an earthquake or volcanic eruption you heard, the early morning hours on Aurora Island were rattled by the large controlled demolition of the Kyrenaian Naval Station at Mokastana Point on the Northeastern shore of Aurora Island commenced in the early morning of June 25 around sunrise. The area was properly secured and monitored by UISDF and Kyrenaian Military Police with the detonation being triggered offshore by a stationed Sultanate Naval ship to finish the final demolition of the decommissioned station, on the heels of the termination of relations between the two countries. The exact power isn't currently known to UNICIM but as footage and eyewitnesses say the massive blast caused a towering fireball to rise into the sky and the ensuing blast caused a loud bang to echo all around the island waking people from their morning sleep and causing rumblings that could be felt from coast to coast.

Even those of us in Aurora Village could feel and hear the blast but in spite of the rather frightening display of pyrotechnics, no persons have been injured or buildings damaged. Residents closer to the regional base do say it was quite frightening for them and wished their former guests could have left with a little more quiet. One resident of nearby Narima, whom has lived their his entire life was quite furious with it. "It's a stunt is what it is" He told to me, "They want to leave that is their business but all this was, was a stunt to scare people! Folks ought be ashamed of themselves."

Another active UISDF solider living in Narima who wished to not be named also talked to me, "Clearly, this is an intent to render the land unusable. Like if they can't have it, nobody can. Any mateirals that are sensitive they would clear out, this blast was just about sending a message"

Some residents while put off from the demolition do understand the need for such a large blast. Naokoa Yamaka a resident of Narima who was shaken awake said while it was unnerving she realizes the need, "I'm sure they really want to guard anything, even the design and construction of their military stations. I'm sad to see them go, the base workers were always a friendly bunch."

"Do you think this was about intimidation?" I asked her?

"No," she answered me, "I'm sure like i said, it's about making sure their buildings are truly gone. It's better than leaving the empty shells to rot away."

The Office of the Interior is currently doing a survey of the area to determine the future of the site, whether to let nature reclaim it over time or potentially let a new nation take the land to set up a new military station, as for now it does seem resettlement of the old village that sat on the lands which this base was built on will remain a memory for now.

Climate and Weather Outlook

Image
by Maro - Weather and Climate Reporter

A strong high pressure ridge is setting up over the islands currently which will bring us warm humid conditions through the next week. This will also repel the chance of major storms across all islands but it will mean slightly above average temperatures for the viewing area. Concerns of the first major hurricane that had formed as a tropical wave a week ago are now diminished because of the ridge and that storm will make a sharp easterly turn this coming week and thus will not hit any island.

Another tropical wave has formed and is still being watched by UNIMO. By the end of the week a small low pressure front will swoop down from the north and sandwich between our sitting high causing breezy conditions. Swimmers and mariners should be cautious about the potential for rip currents and choppy seas. By the end, the high ridge will move off and temperatures will come down a little and winds will steady.

Op Ed: Have Faith, It'll Work out

Image
by Yukari Tamako

There is a lot of discussion about this recent fallout with our former friends of the Sultanate and the UIS. I'm a Priestess, not a politician, I'm not one to comment on these matters, but people are looking to us for guidance and a little solace in these times of stress and I want to offer my own two credits to that at least. AHSCA has gone through a lot of changes since we became an official nation, we've had a new Duchess pass the guard to her daughter, we've seen more people become interested in our country and well now we've made our first formal breakup of an alliance. Nations often have growing pains, or so I've been told by the older and wiser among my peers, and this is another one. But have faith, we've been seen through difficult times before. My mother, another Priestess, reflected at the end of the war, how would the chaos affect people's spirituality. She feared more would turn their backs and bring greater destruction from the heaven's upon us. With the first official monsoon season in the aftermath that happened, I think she might have been right, to an extent. The Dark Goddess Homukami did bring a lot upon her people for having turned their backs, but in the end the great Madokami shot her arrow of light to clear the skies and bring the light back onto us. As all things, the Goddess have to work to balance the planet, they do so often with violent force or gentle nudgings but in the end, balance always returns. We've gone through a long period of light so perhaps a little shadow is due.

But I'm not here to frighten you, fret not, because the Goddesses always will do what they do to make us strong as a people. The Sultanate has her reasons and the UIS has hers in the end our courts of divinity are watching over all us to make us always aware, our ties are fragile. For when there is light there will be darkness but when there's darkness there will be light again. Until they decide our world is to truly end, this will always be the case. Fear not my friends, the Goddesses are always with us on this, AHSCA will continue as she always does.

Congress suddenly adjourned early as Senator Pacifica of Corona Island became seriously ill on the floor, earlier today. The Senator reported feeling chills, feverish and aces and pains in her whole body before being ushered out of the room to be attended to by medical staff. Though some early fears of Jungle Fever were abound, doctors report she has come down with a case of flu and is being currently treated and rested. All other staff and people close to her are currently being quarantined for safety and congress remains adjourned until further notice. Senator Miela, also of Corona Island whom is in an open relation with Senator Pacifica has not reported symptoms of her own but is being watched carefully. Doctors say with care and treatment, Senator Pacifica should recover as a healthy young woman. The Senator's Daughter is also being monitored and examined for any potential effects. No exposure to any Officers of the Duchess nor the royal family themselves are reported.

Sea of Faith Territories Annexed

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- In a speech upon her return from Romandeos, Arch-Bishop Luboski has declared the islands of Shesharlie, Ixana, and Tarvencore to be the property of the Marshite Church and part of the Theocratic Empire. "The Marshites in the Sea of Faith have, for too long, existed apart from us. Victimized as much by our inaction as by the rulers of their lands or the strange tides of fate. This state of affairs has been suffered for too long and shall not be suffered a moment more. The islands of Tarvencore, Ixana, and Shesharlie are by faith and righteousness ours, and through the strength of our communal actions shall in glory be consecrated as part of the Holy Land. By the word of the Arch-Bishop and by the law of the Holy Marsh, Her Laws being unbroken in command, these lands are Marshite lands, and in Marshite hands they are kept," she said, before unveiling maps of the new provinces.

The UMCSF issued a statement signed by all major Marshite leaders, dissolving itself effectively immediately and confirming their status as loyal Marshite subjects. In Tarvencore, long-standing plans and agendas have finally come to fruition, with the capital of the island (Druscan) being renamed Luboski in honor of the Arch-Bishop who finally absorbed them, as was standing preparatory law. In Ixana, the Sultanate has signed an agreement giving the Sultana and her charges certain rights, but otherwise dissolving the Ishtari Sultanate and ceding control of all territory and functions to the Theocracy. The situation on Shesharlie is somewhat more confused, with the majority of the islanding having signalled either joyous agreement or begrudging acceptance. A small coalition of villages not of Marshite faith have argued against this decision, though it is expected they will be offered a method of leaving the islands should they not choose to live in the Theocracy.

The Arch-Bishop also reiterated their long-term support for the island of nation AHSCA during her dispute with the Sultanate of Kyrenaia, which has resulted in the severing of ties. "The UIS does nothing without good reason and cause and in their fulfilment of holy vows they have proven a friendly and reliable peoples. If issues exist between states, I am inclined to believe wrong has not been found with the good people of AHSCA."

The Formation of the Union Salvation Party

A stunning report has been released by what is now a coalition of the parties of Aurania, Prince Hasan, Manuela and Marco.

On the third day of the elections, supporters of what is now the Union Salvation Party came out to conduct large public demonstrations in favor of this new development and to try and encourage other citizens to join them. This development has shocked many other citizens, both at home and overseas, as the Union has not seen the formation of a coalition this large for quite a long time in her history. Already, the streets of various Solisian cities are filled. To ensure that the demonstrations remain peaceful, security forces have been deployed to observe the proceedings and to maintain order. Additional security forces have been dispatched to voting stations and other establishments to ensure that order is kept at those places and to assist in the maintenance of peace for the rest of the days of the elections.

The USP has declared itself 'a party for the Union that wishes itself free of the status quo and that wishes itself free to prize its traditions and values and to uphold the greatest wish of all peoples who do not dare to see the Union become astray from what it should be.' According to one of their candidates, Aurania of the ATP, the USP is 'strongly in favor of supporting the right to the ancient Azenian customs as dominant political forms, the native rights of our peoples, and the establishment of strong external ties in support of these aims."

Talks continue to proceed between the Socialists and the Communists. The same continues for various parties within the newly formed USP. However, both the Federalist Party and the Independent Alliance refuse to join the USP.
Unfortunately, there are increasing defections from the Federalist Party toward the USP, and despite this, Laria has stated that the FP shall remain firm in its wishes to participate in the elections as it is. Though that may be, there are unofficial reports that certain members of the FP are looking toward joining in on the talks between the Socialists and Communists. The result of this political manoeuvring is a further strengthening of the left and an unusual pan-political alliance that stands in opposition, though sources say meetings between the Socialists, Communists, and USP are currently ongoing.

Politics of the Mushroom Islands

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- Political outsiders from think tanks outside of the Union are trying to understand why the Arch-Bishop would give the Solisian Union the ownership of the Mushroom Islands. While home to a scant eighty-three million Marshites and not any longer a strategic stronghold, it is the first recorded instance of the Theocracy returning land of any kind for any reason, and having done so out of the blue only adds to the mystery. Among these think tanks however, there is a growing theory as to the nature of this exchange.

Contrary to Arch-Bishop Luboski's statement that she was doing what was right by Marshite honor and by her Solisian allies, and that the move was expected to only ever improve the Romani-Mar'si Union as a whole, there is a belief that this move was abjectly political in nature- or at least as political as a Theocratic Marshite can be. The Mushroom Islands were unique in the entire Union. Large sections of it were subject to unique laws designed to protect their way of life, tying them directly to neither the Solisian Union or Grand Theocratic Empire. Instead, as the GDS grew in power and Solisia turned to socialism, the protected class of the Mushroom Islands were able to flaunt both developments and develop a free market, free speech, free press society. And bound by ancient agreement the Arch-Bishop was powerless to change any of this.

Arch-Bishop Luboski argued near the end of the last century as the Theocracy prepared for the final sequence of campaigns to end the Long War that, "regions such as the Mushroom Islands that consistently falter in their contributions harm the Marshite community and people continually, forcing those who have given to give even more of themselves while they do not in a mockery of equality and ethics."

Such a view was commonly and consistently expressed by the Arch-Bishop during her years running the GDS. Members of the think-tank postulate that with the Commune Shrine and its beliefs being paramount in Luboski's worldview, this was seen as a way of taking care of two problems. With the Mushroom Islands removed from Marshite control, there exists no 'aberrant' region and Luboski's attempts at formalizing control will face absolutely no public challenge. Meanwhile, the ancient deal with the Theocracy that protected the Elizarin settlers and their developments has reached the end of its lifespan, placing them firmly back under Solisian control- and the economic and social policies of that nation as well. This also removes any special protection they enjoyed from Romani-Mar'si Union law.

Arch-Bishop Luboski and President Rivas have not responed to such accusations, though a spokesperson for President Rivas called the theory, "pure unadulterated hogwash dreamt up in a fever dream by those who should know better. This is a moment of great joy for our people and all they can do is make it a political event."

Rivas' job approval went up to 76% after the announcement.

Arch-Bishop Starts Educational Overview Process

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- Arch-Bishop Luboski has started the Overview Process of the Church's Educational Department, a process considered long overdue by many experts. While the Church's Educational Department routinely updates the scholastic system of the Theocracy in minor ways and works to achieve the best results it can, the Overview Process is one undertaken on the Arch-Bishop's orders as a commitment to change and the development of new educational strategies. Every Arch-Bishop starts the Overview Process within the first year of their term and may develop it as they desire, which in theory could lead to a massive upheaval in the system. In practice, however, most Arch-Bishops choose steady or incremental changes unless they have a strong belief in the necessity of change. Many experts believe that Luboski may see this as a golden opportunity to affect change across the Theocracy for an extended period of time.

The Martyr Lainika professed a significant disinterest in the educational examination, believing that it was producing quality soldiers and that little else was needed. Humbled Saranasata before her made few changes to the Caste System, the foundational element of Theocratic Education. This followed a line of Overviews stretching back to the last major change to the Caste System in ALW 2010 (CE 1910), when Wise Balorcada helped formalize the athletic and scholarly requirements across the nation. Since the Caste System was introduced in ALW 1801, there has been little overall change to the structure of Marshite schooling, with the exception of an updated curriculum and other common-sense developments.

Yet with the Long War's Hot Phase nearly three decades removed, it is believed that Arch-Bishop Luboski may seek to make rather substantial changes. She wrote extensively in the late 2110s about the necessity of a new educational system to recognize the challenges the Theocracy faces. The paper, co-authored by other Shrine leaders, detailed the overabundance of officers produced by the Educational System in relation to military losses, and the relative lack of highly qualified officials outside of dedicated Shrine specialists and graduates of institutions ran by them. In Commune Shrine discussions she was reported to have been an opponent of the Caste System in its entirety, or at least in favor of an extreme modification of it, seeing it as too singularly focused and unable to fully utilize the talents of the students to better serve the interests of their compatriots outside of military roles. She has also been on record decrying the manner in which the Caste System separates and categorizes students, creating haves and have nots too readily.

The Overview is expected to take several months and involve a thorough review involving multiple departments, input from the Shrines, as well as the Arch-Bishop's orders as to what changes are to be implemented. It will result in an Educational Guide being released in August.

FEDALA ANNOUNCES NEW BASING RIGHTS IN SAMARASTA

Image

___________

OOC

You may be wondering, where the heck did Istoloa and these other new countries come from? Check out this thread. These initial news posts are building up the general situation in Istoloa and its former empire, giving participants more in character background on the tension, factions, and politics of the region. They are also meant to provide hooks to give participants in-character justification for intervention.
___________

TONGOLOSI — As the war in central Greater Díenstad winds down, a potentially volcanic conflict is escalating in the west. In response to a request for military aid from President Jurado Mabuto, the Golden Throne has deployed a raid eskúadra along with two brigades of naval infantry to the Samarastan capital of Tongolosi. Mabuto is facing increasing hostility from Tupenga, Fustera, and Istoloa, which have threatened invasion unless Samarasta eliminates all alleged funding, training, and arming of rebel groups in Tupenga. Mabuto has vehemently denied any relationship with Tupengan rebels. Why the Golden Throne has decided to intervene in the country's defense remains somewhat of a mystery, although one can guess at its intentions. The Kríermada eskúadra and the 8,000 soldiers come from Kríerstatón Potthan, its only other naval base in the area. The Imperial Bureaucracy in Fedala has declined to comment on the deployment, other than citing the explicit request from the Samarastan government. Neither has it confirmed or denied rumors of a larger deployment arriving from the provinces.

To Istoloa and its former colonies, the brewing conflict is much more personal than whatever the two central Greater Díenstadi powers are playing at. Istoloa once the center of an expansive overseas empire that turned the surrounding island landscape into a large, inter-related plantation economy that relied on slavery for labor. This legacy has forever defined each colony's politics, as all of them grapple with the inherent inequities that have been passed along over generations.

Samarasta has been ruled a Creoloso-majority and -led government since 1989, with much of the Istoloan colonial population emigrating elsewhere over the following decades. The country stands out as the only former Istoloan colony where the Creoloso population, all descendants of slaves imported from Theohuanacu and Holy Panooly, have managed to wrestle control of the government away from minority colonial elites. That is not for a want of trying, as Tupenga and others have accused it of. Tupenga has teetered on the edge of collapse several times, and the country is no stranger to insurgencies or civil wars. Its last civil war ended in 2013, but a low level insurgency continues to intensify as the political climate worsens. These rebels seem well-armed and funded, and have an obvious political and ideological alignment with the achievements of the Samarastan government.

Tupenga's civil war ended with a power-sharing agreement that never quite saw full fruition. The old colonial elite remain in power, and the separation of colonial and Creoloso populations remains in force even if some of the strictest rules — and punishments — have been eliminated. In fact, since 2013, not a single Creoloso political candidate has been elected for any position of power above city council. Since the same year, no Creoloso candidate has won municipal elections in any of the top ten cities. Civil rights have been slow to roll out, and those which are granted are oftentimes rescinded. Protests have turned to riots and civilians have accused the government of brutality in their treatment of protestors. In the countryside, the military clash with heavily armed gunmen. These insurgents control major roadblocks, mountains, and most of the small towns and villages — even if they don't let themselves be caught alive in any of them during the day. The Tupengan government has responded to the protests, riots, and insurgency by threatening to go back to the political arrangement in existence prior to the civil war.

An apartheid state, Fustera has acted as Tupenga's primary ally since its full independence in 1927. Like Tupenga, Fustera has been a hotbed for insurgent activity, although the Fusteran government is more stable and better able to contain the violence. This internal strength has been recently reinforced by Istoloan troops, who began arriving in Fustera after 2013 under the guise of joint training, wargames, and operations. Samarasta has accused the Fusteran and Istoloan governments of wanting to impose a like-minded regime, not just on Tupenga but, on Samarasta as well.

Although Istoloa remains the cultural heart of its former empire, both politically and commercially its power among its former colonies has waned over the decades. Rodrigo Fremonero's regime in Istoloa has attempted to reverse this pursuing an aggressive foreign policy. In the west, Ladero's rising star threatens to dislodge Istoloa as the richest, most powerful remnant of the old Istoloan Empire. Fremonero has balanced that mostly by playing a waiting game involving minimal adherence to the terms of the Pan-Tarao Economic Union (PANTEU). With that saved time, he has focused almost entirely on growing Istoloan influence in Fustera and Tupenga. With a reassertion of Istoloan primacy over the old seaborne colonies, perhaps Istoloa can regain its advantage vis-a-vis Ladero and the other Tarao countries, or so Fremonero may think. Regardless, the fact is that Istoloa has been pursuing an aggressive policy of economic and military support for the regimes in both of those states. Most recently, Fremonero has also been the most vocal in threatening Samarasta with invasion unless it ceases all activity in support of the insurgents.

What exactly the Golden Throne gains from putting itself in the middle of this family feud is unknown, but part of the answer lies in the recent opening of its westernmost military base in the region, in northern Potthan. The Golden Throne has been attempting to grow its presence in the area, putatively in an effort to regulate trade going in and out of the river leading to the fragmented remnants of old Ralkovia. The base in northern Potthan, Kríerstatón Potthan as it is known, accomplishes exactly that by giving the Fuermak an important base of operations directly in the mouth of the river that flows into the Bay of Chains. Why then risk involving itself in a distant conflict mired in ethnic tension? Part of it may have to do with Fedor's animosity toward Ralkovia, but Ralkovia has seen much better days and the Eitoani-Marshite coalition is unlikely to loosen its hold over the occupied portions of the country. But, there are also sensations that, in the west, the Golden Throne is one distant influence among many. Alignment with Samarasta may come with risks, but it strategically positions the Golden Throne as a key player in a brewing international incident exactly where it wants more presence. A more robust presence would give Fedor I more of a say in local geopolitics, especially in matters concerning the security of allies such as Eitoan.

Whatever the Golden Throne is up to, it will find that the situation is much bigger than itself. Already, the news of its new naval base in the capital city of Tongolosi has inspired all three Tarao countries to unilaterally withdraw from PANTEU. Ladero, Sorofi, and Irat announced the Western Díenstadi Trade Agreement (WEDTAG) at the same time, extending an invitation to the Golden Throne according to sources inside the Imperial Bureaucracy. The government of Fedor I has yet to respond, say the same sources, suggesting some hesitation before further involving the empire in the destabilizing and violent Istoloan geopolitics. Regardless, the three Tarao countries have shown no sign of wanting to turn back. It seems that Istoloa's joining in on the agitation against Samarasta has sufficiently shaken them to immediately break remaining political ties with their former overlord.

War seems the only logical conclusion to the breakdown of order happening within the former colonial empire. It's too early to comment on how events will unfold without speculating, but political analysts are confident that Istoloa will seek to militarily re-assert its dominance over the Taraos.* Whether that subjugation will happen now, before matters involving Samarasta are put in order, or later remains to be seen. Istoloa will want to at least coax the Tarao countries into their commercial sphere of influence, even as it deals with the confrontation between Fustera, Tupenga, and Samarasta in the east. The dissolution of PANTEU may otherwise wreak havoc on an Istoloan economy that has already been suffering from, if not a steady decline, stagnation.

The deployment of a Macabéan naval squadron to Samarasta will surely complicate matters. Rumors from within the Fusteran government speak of overtures to the Ordenite Reich out of fear that Istoloa will demure from conflict with the Golden Throne. Although the Reich suffered badly at sea in this most recent war, its rule over central and eastern Krasnova nevertheless remains intact. And, in the Killian Republic, the Ordenites remain overlords of much of that country's south. Natural, then, that Fustera turn to a country with a proven capability of defending itself and its allies. The implication, more so than the expansion of Ordenite influence in the west, is that Istoloa may be forced to act sooner rather than later. Meaning, Istoloa will seek to regain its position of prominence amongst its former colonies through a series of military campaigns against possibly both Laredo and Samarasta.

It may be a matter of weeks, perhaps even days, before war sparks in the west.

* Think of "Tarao" as Baltic or Balkan, and "the Taraos" and "the Baltics" or "the Balkans."

AIR RAIDS & DOGFIGHTS OVER LADERO

Image

___________

___________

Image
LAVENÇA — The capital city of Laredo and other targets, both civilian and military, were struck in a series of surprise airstrikes this morning. Fighter aircraft belonging to the Istoloan Air Force attacked Laredan airfields, defense bases, and important administrative and infrastructural targets in a number of quick and staggered waves. Although the Istoloan government hasn't made any official comment regarding the situation, the Laredan government has released evidence of a sudden Istoloan military buildup northwest of their capital, Loçelea. They have warned that may be invaded within the next 24 to 48 hours and have sent a cry out for help to the different regional powers.

Although neither government has declared war, that is the state in which all governments assume they are in now. Laredo has reportedly already retaliated, launching airstrikes and surface-to-surface missile attacks. The Tarao government claims to have killed or wounded several hundred Istoloan soldiers. Istoloa has refused to comment or release any information concerning the fighting so far. Regardless, the combat is still informal and, for all intents and purposes, limited.

It has been four decades since these two countries last fought a war. It was the war of Laredan independence, a six-month war that saw the expulsion of the local Istoloan garrison by a hodgepodge collection of militia forces. Since the fateful year of 1991, relations between the two have normalized and, for some time, have even recently been cordial. Indeed, the two have formed part of the Pan-Tarao Economic Union (PANTEU) since 2009. That relationship, of course, ceased days ago, when Laredo announced its withdrawal in conjunction with Sorofi and Irat. The three Tarao countries have formed the Western Díenstadi Trade Agreement (WEDTAG) as an alternative trade bloc. Any friendship earned prior to Field Marshal Rodrigo Fremonero 2013 coup against the rightfully elected Democratic-Republican Party presidential candidate, Lonrezo Botaçao, has since been lost through a combination of aggression and neglect. Despite this downward political and commercial spiral between the two countries, war between them has been far from everybody's mind. The airstrikes come as a surprise to many, including the city populations of Laredo caught in the crossfire.

Ladero was once much poorer and much more dependent on Istoloa. It had been that way even during its struggle for independence. But, Istoloan rule was evidently not seen worth whatever benefits it purported to come with. Since its independence on August 23, 1991, Ladero has grown both economically and demographically, while pursuing an aggressive policy of "de-Istoloanization." That included the cessation of the teaching of the Istoloan language in public schools, in favor of teaching its cousin language Laderanho. As Istoloa stagnates, Ladero thrives. Soon, the former colony will surpass its former master in strength. For Istoloa, the implication is that now is the last opportunity it has to re-subjugate its former colony and restore Istoloa to its imperial greatness.

Since 1991, Ladero has supplanted the militia forces that won independence with a modern standing army. Although not equipped with the cutting edge in terms of military technology, its equipment and training are modern and in good condition. This contrasts to the deterioration in the Istoloan armed forces, which have not been able to keep up with cutting-edge technologies either, including fifth-generation stealth. Whether these technologies will be introduced with the impending war is another question, but it's the leveling between the two sides that has perhaps driven Istoloa to this morning's surprise attack. If the playing field is equitable, what better way to tip the balance in your favor than to eliminate much of the enemy's defensive capabilities in one fell swoop?

Although Ladero has not released any information related to casualties and losses, reporters on the ground have anecdotally confirmed the presence of Istoloan aircraft in Laderan skies. We do not have such confirmation in the other direction, implying that the Istoloan Air Force has managed to grab air superiority early on. Ground observers have confirmed the criss-cross of surface-to-air missiles and other munitions, as well as a low-intensity ongoing bombardment conducted by Istoloan fighter bombers. Their pre-emptive strike has given them an important strategic advantage, in other words. Seemingly confirming this interpretation is that the Laderan Air Force has been sparsely seen, mostly contesting local air space over the cities, but not always. More concretely, military analysts believe that the opening Istoloan strike may have dealt significant, perhaps fatal, damage to the Laderan Air Force. Although the Laderan Navy is small, there are some visual confirmations that the country's naval bases were attacked as well. If the Laderan government is correct in anticipating a ground invasion, they may no longer have the tools to repulse it.

As all-out war becomes increasingly likely, the Laderan people are likely getting flashbacks of the war of 1991. Much of Ladero, which enjoys a beautiful scenery accented by ancient ruins, was destroyed during the conflict, as an intense guerrilla conflict lit the country aflame. But, that war may prove to be very different from this one. If Ladero cannot find allies to fund, supply, and even reinforce it, it may need to capitulate to Istoloan demands sooner rather than later. These demands are unlikely to include occupation. Rather, Istoloa will be seeking favorable terms of trade and a more amenable Laderan foreign policy, restricted by treaty.

A neat conclusion to the conflict most definitely favors Istoloa. It is reasonable to assume that Istoloa is not seeking a long, drawn-out conflict in Ladero. It seeks a quick resolution so that it can focus on events to the east without having to worry about the Tarao countries at its back. A fast win would also vindicate the Fremonero government, especially in the eyes of foreign powers who may be looking to swoop in and shove Istoloan influence out of its former colonies.

For Ladero, this incident will be a watershed moment. That is, will it succumb to another generation or more of subservience to Istoloa or will this war serve to further solidify its independence from, and primacy over, its former colonial master?

Little wonder that the Laderan government has already sent frantic pleas for help to almost all of the region's major governments. Some of the foreign capitals most heavily targeted include Eitoan, Holy Marsh, Mokastana, and the Golden Throne. These are the states with a long and active history of fighting fascism and slavery in Greater Díenstad. Ladero has raised the issue of Fustera's recent alliance with the Ordenite Reich as a specter, arguing that its defeat may consolidate apartheid governments across the former colonies. Whether this threat will be seen as serious enough by the anti-Ordenite Greater Díenstadi powers is yet to be seen, but with parts of its armed forces already destroyed — or, so we suspect — Ladero is undoubtedly praying that some major power will hear its call.

MAFT/TRC Seizes Tupengan Regional Capitals; Collapse of Tupenga imminent?

Cáviedo, Tupenga- Tupengan Rebel Coalition (TRC) forces announced the capture of two regional capitals in northern Tupengan today following extended low-level sieges. In Tusana, government forces officially turned over the city as part of a withdrawal agreement while in Relanga a surprise Marshite Alliance for a Free Tupenga (MAFT) assault caught the weary garrison off guard. While exact casualties are currently unknown, this puts the Tupengan government once more in a deadly position. With many of its major cities surrounded by rebel territory and travel between them difficult, the government faces the prospect of having to once again launch blood assaults into increasingly stiffening rebel resistance in the countryside where it is wildly unpopular.

The Second Tupengan Civil War (started in 2025) has seen a change in character recently, with rebel groups receiving increased support from abroad. In recent weeks, the Tupengan government has accused the Theocracy of not only sending a great quantity of gear but also special forces. The Church has a policy of not responding to such accusations, but experts say that it is not unlikely that with the United World Order's presence in the region emboldening reactionary elements that Luboski would started to ramp up the pressure on a regime with a long-established Marshite minority.

MAFT forces have been a growing part of the civil war in Tupenga. Marshism is a popular faith among the Creoloso of Tupenga and for decades they were considered a somewhat apolitical force in the nation. However, the wars that marked the collapse of the Istoloan Empire changed Marshite character in the sub-region. While at first MAFT acted as a purely defensive organization that would in equal manners help or hinder either side depending on their actions, quickly they became an anti-government agitation after a series of harsh measures by local commanders turned Marshites by and large against the government. They took part in the First Tupengan Civil War (2001-2013) and signed the power-sharing agreement that ended it.

MAFT abided by the agreement longer than most, though it did agitate against the great restrictions placed on the Creoloso. By 2025, MAFT had largely abandoned the agreement and engaged in what it called a defensive campaign. While during the previous stage of the wars it had largely not been supplied by the Theocracy, Arch-Bishop Lainika went to some lengths to ensure steady access of arms to MAFT and militias it worked alongside. MAFT continued to prove highly effective and joined the TRC in 2026, an umbrella organization that help coordinate rebel factions.

MAFT proved to be one of the more effective and growing rebel factions in the nation and soon ascended to one of the leadership roles in the coalition. It is a growing militant threat and under Luboski has seen growth in alleged Theocratic support. Regardless of the truth of the matter, the Tupengan government is in dire straits. Its political infrastructure is buckling under the weight of a collapsed economy and rebel attacks, with international trade shattered and trans-urban commerce more difficult than ever. The military is the one element of the government that is still in working order but it is being worn down by the incessant low-level fighting that has only escalated in intensity as the nation has grown weaker.

Field Resigns at Foreign Affairs
Falkowski to Succeed as Top Diplomat

President Ephriam Shrdlu announced today that Secretary of Foreign Affairs Randall Field has tendered his resignation, which the President accepted in the announcement. In praising Mr. Field’s stewardship of the nation’s foreign affairs, the President touched on his career prior to assuming the highest office. Field, a noted diplomat, had served with distinction as ambassador to Relica and The Golden Throne before coming home to direct Foreign Affairs’ Office of Long Range Planning. He holds the the greatest academic credentials among the President’s cabinet, having attained his PhD. in International Relations five years after joining the department.

Observers among the press at Foreign Affairs have noted the wear and tear on Secretary Field as Eitoan foreign policy entered the deeper waters of regionwide politics, first moving away from the influence of The Ralkovian Empire, but especially after Eitoan was plunged into war by the suprise Ralkovian attack on neighboring Aurensia. As responsibilities widened and deepened during and after the Ralkovian War, Secretary Field slowly and deliberately delegated responsibility for the more complicated mechanisms of navigating big power politics to younger assistants, with 55 year old Andrew Falkoski, Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs taking the lead. Although it is too early to assess his legacy, he is widely regarded as the best man for the job President Shrdlu could have as he assumed office, and the one that ably and finally released the last ties to the much despised Raskov regime in Ralkovia.

At Foreign Affairs in Vladarsik, following the President’s announcement, Secretary Field briefly spoke.

“Mr. President, thank you for those kind words. It has been an honor to serve the people of Eitoan throughout my career, and privilege to do so as Secretary of Foreign Affairs. I know that you will continue, with the assistance and advice of Mr. Falkowski and the remarkable staff of the Department both in Vladarsik and abroad to serve the best interests of the people of Eitoan. I want to take this opportunity to familiarize all of you with the incoming Secretary, Mr. Andrew Falkowski.

A career diplomat, Andrew rose in the department through a series of overseas assignments, culminating that service as Ambassador to Mokastana, This is, of course, an important and prestigious post. His formal title was Serving as Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, he has provided me with keen insight into the power dynamics of the major players in Greater Dienstad. And he will serve ably as Eitoan moves forward on the continent, and beyond.

Stepping into his position as Undersecretary is the very capable Mrs. Marilyn Stegman. Mr. Falkowski has prepared some introductory remarks.

Before I turn this conference over to Mr. Falkowski, a few brief announcements. Secretary of Industry and Trade Loren Masters will be departing next week for a trade mission in Tupioca. We wish him and the delegation all success. Bilateral patent and trademark agreements coming due for renewal in the next quarter are proceeding as normal. I will be hosting a meeting with the visiting Barjaani Foreign Minister over the weekend, and Mr. Falkowski will be in attendance.

And now, with President Shrdlu’s permission, a few observations on the evolving developments in the Shartourn region. Like all Eitaons, we are cautious about continental developments in the Bay of Chains and further south, for good reason. Foreign Affairs is monitoring the situation through normal channels, among all first party embassies in Vladarsik. But, again with the President’s permission, there have been very many communications from the Legislature to Foreign Affairs, from both the Ghastak and Dashez, and from across the political spectrum. The events in Ladero have received the greatest notice. The overwhelming response has been sympathy for the people of Ladero. Many see parallels between the efforts and progress of the the Tarao people and the story of Eitoan; a break from slavery, growth of a modern economy and emergence onto the world scene. This has not been formalized into policy, but it has been noted.

And now, Mr. Falkowski, the podium is yours.”

Remarks by Mr. Falkowski

In his remarks, Mr. Falkowski said

“Mr. President, Mr. Secretary I am honored today. The Department will continue in the direction you have set, Secretary Field. And I look forward to answering all questions to be posed soon in my confirmation hearings. Eitoan will continue in it’s role among the community of nations, and as a friend and neighbor on the continent.

Some of you may not be so familiar with Mrs. Stegman’s credentials, so I’ll give a brief introduction of my younger colleague. Her current position is Senior Strategic Planning Analyst, but has contributed much more the department than the title implies. Starting her lifetime career at Foreign Affairs, Marilyn scored highest for her cohort in the Foreign Service Entrance Exam, a feat only equaled by 2 other women. Most of her career had been at Foreign Affairs Analysis in Vladarsik, punctuated by the requisite overseas exposure in a consulate in Relica, a posting as a Diplomatic Attache in Berlina, and another tour as Diplomatic Attache in The Golden Throne. A mother of 2, Marilyn has contributed creatively to help meet all challenges, especially during the early days of the war. She has interacted with me on a number of critical issues recently. It is her time to assume the role of Undersecretary.

Progress continues in building Federal Ralkovia as a productive partner on the continent. We not the significant rise in income of former slaves there, and among Balkovians since the war. And this should be noted by friends across the region. Discussions continue with The Timocratic Republic regarding greater local involvement for inhabitants of Ra’govizik Indara. Although at a rudimentary level, there has been discussion about input from the locals in such matters as sanitation and road repair. We believe that matters such as these should prove uncontroversial, and allow for cooperation among all ethnic groups there. While self determination, whether association with Federal Ralkovia or independence is a long way off, this is a start down the road of greater civilian involvement. The matter of long term planning has been posed to the Regional Council, but the needs of the Indarans dictate that some progress be made in the meantime.

There will be no change in overall policy at the department. Eitoan will maintain land forces strong enough on continent to forestall threats to the nation. To enable this, the legislature has provided appropriations to support the naval presence in the Jesheoda channel, the Great Inland Sea, and the waters of the Bay of Chains providing access and egress from the Great Inland Sea. And with the generous appropriation and enthusiastic work of the Navy, long range planning is being realized. So we will continue this role on the continent in the department.

Northwestern Mutual Agreement Association exercised will continue on schedule. The NV4A-2 exercise will commence next week in the Jesheoda Channel and adjacent NMAA littoral, with full participation by our partners.

With regards to the Shartourn, these notes.

Shippers are advised to follow all maritime commerce advisories. Planning for the short term should factor in any increases in insurance rates, and cargo content restrictions.

Air traffic for Eitoan carriers will follow local air traffic control warnings and restrictions.

The situation is being monitored at the ambassadorial level. The department has been and will continue to be in contact with all first parties involved. We are making efforts to bring about a cessation of hostilities in the Shartorun. Overall, we do not see the agreements between the larger powers and the insular Shartorun governments as a cause for concern. The troop levels moving there from outside the region do not appear to be of impact to continental security, and those agreements are entirely the concern of the involved parties.

The department was looking forward to negotiations with WEDTAG. This is now on hold, pending more information about conditions in Ladero. WEDTAG promises to be a more attractive market than can be provided by it’s individual members, and negotiations with the organization would be more efficient and consistent than with each individual party. We have made this known to the Istoloan embassy in Vladarsik.

Educational Review Continues

Mar'si, Holy Marsh- As the Educational Review continues on, experts have started to pinpoint certain elements that they expect the Arch-Bishop to change.

Currently, Marshites attend school six days a week, every week save one of the year, for twelve hours a day. It is theorized this may be an area of change, as it does not align with the manner that several Shines (including the Commune Shrine) try to operate. Just what exactly the change will be is unknown, though following the Commune Shrine's work schedule seems like a distinct possibility.

They must also contend with Shrine Education. Currently, Shrines operate their own schools outside of the Main Church. Those raised by the Shrine themselves- war orphans and otherwise- attend them, as do students with a special dispensation. This has often been the breeding ground for many specialists in government and society at large, providing readily skilled labor in important posts. The issue identified over time is twofold, according to critics. The first is that this has created an imbalance of specialists, with certain Shrines- such as the Science and Engineering Shrines- producing large numbers of highly developed experts while fields outside of direct shrine influence have fewer. It is here that the secondary issue has developed. As the population has expanded wildly over the past few decades without the active culling of the Long War to temper the growth, some fields have experienced a lack of growth in relativity to this explosion. It is believed that she will try to identify students with talent and promote unique education for them, to help increase the amount of specialists in the nation while allowing Shrines to maintain their expertise.

The Caste System has been a point of contention for the Arch-Bishop for decades. The Caste System evaluates students by both academic and physical achievements and qualities, with the final caste ranking being the average of these two. In this way, the system helps provide officer academies with students of surpassing intelligence and physical ability, as befits the requirements of the officer corp. However, he Commune Shrine has often said that it does not take into account the varied skills of the students themselves, wasting legions of students when their skills were better served in the community. Luboski has also often said she detests the idea of ranking students the way that the Caste System very publicly does.

Rumors also persist that she disapproves of the system's internal focus, and would likely want to promote a more international focus for the post-educational tracts of many Marshites.

The Grand Theocracy

A name widely believed to be the easiest transition. Enjoys wide support across most groups involved, but does falter in some circles that want to see a more dramatic altering of perception through the name. Would be the quickest one to change to as it involves only a few changes, which does leave open the random possibility of something being overlooked. Does not include a renaming of the Armed Forces.
The Grand Theocracy of the Holy Marsh, Grand Theocracy, Theocracy. Holy Marsh Air Force (HMAF), Holy Marsh Navy (HMN).

Lover Agrees; Duchess May be incompetent~
-A Report from The Hanasaku Press, A Private Independent Newspaper You Can Trust!-

This article first appeared in The Hanasaku Press, which is a privately owned news outlet based from Aurora Island in the UIS. This story has not been independently verified by UNICIM or any Government agency.

by: Fumio Taiya

Much fuss has been made about the recent fallout between the UIS and the Sultanate of Kyrenaia in recent weeks. From wondering if this was the right thing, to general concerns about the future to just all out off the walls drama suited for the juiciest of pulp novels now. A recently published article in the Utica Herald, 30th of June, 2021 reported on a personal correspondence between the Princess Aurelia bint-Damir and Emperor Thomas Cärrino of Brettenwald, wherein the Princess confides in the Emperor that even she thinks the Duchess Villa may truly be in over her head, well that's actually putting it nicely. The letter of which we obtained through a copy of the Harald reads as such,

Dear Emperor Thomas,

I want to be honest with you: I would not have come out of the pickles I have been in they way I did without my Father, without my trusty Sand Wolf Aldhiyb and without my Handmaiden Sarina. I am positive, that they will help me through these tough times as well and that my stepmother Yasmin will be right with them – in fact, they already do, as do other friends of mine.

Now, as for your question – no.
Please do not get me wrong, Marcella is a woman with a beautiful mind and soul, strong and fierce, but despite all the love I still feel for her, she is not the right woman in these trying times for the UIS.
She lacks the experience to handle the mess, that was made by both her and my Grandmother, she lacks the resources to do so effectively, she lacks the corresponding government and I fear, that right now, she chased the foxes out of the chicken coop only to let the wolves in. I pray, that she realized that before it is too late and acts accordingly, swallowing her pride.

With a kind hug,
Aurelia bint-Damir,
Princess of the Ilkhanate of Utica and Beyeha of Malakiard.

In turn the Press in the Sultanate too have been having a true field day over this information as further letters back and forth between the Duchess and Princess were also shown, which Marcella rather plainly expresses her regret over the situation getting this far. With the Mervayan delegation acting as mediators in this whole mess, it remains to be seen what will happen in the months or even years to come. A recent poll by us show's the Duchess' popularity waining in points, considerably morose than in years prior even when faced with other moments of her ineptitude, such as the slow moving hurricane on Animalpolis a couple years back and the slow response of getting military aid to those people. Honestly, that back then was the least of her worries compared to now, as now before the world stage, her name and reputation is being dragged out in public for the world to see.

Meanwhile, even the Duchess's own family seems to have had enough as the Princess Gisella has seemingly left the country. Yes that's right, readers, with this ongoing situation the Princess saw fit to attend the wedding of a foreign monarch. And from what we've heard, [https://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?p=38799512#p38799512]her entrance was less than graceful.[/url]. The further blowback of the shuttering of relations with the Sultanate will be seen but for now, it's looking like The Duchess has wrecked upon the ships, having foolishly perused the siren song of the foreign Desert Princess, Aurelia.

The Official Newspaper of the Communist Party of Arstotzka

The People’s Republic of Arstotzka condemns the Military Coup in Tupenga.
Louis-August Bragança declared Marechalisimo. Tupenga on the verge of a Second Civil War.

Orvech Vonor - At 02:00 hours, a faction of the Tupengan military seized the capital city of Crifoso. By 06:00 hours, Marechal Louis-August Bragança had announced in a nationally televised speech that President Marco Llorasa had been arrested, and that he would be taking up the Presidency until further notice.

Chairman Ulrich Ziegler issued an official condemnation of Bragança, and his military coup. In a press conference that took place later that day, Ziegler accused Bragança of only worsening the situation in the Istoloa region: “The continuing rise of racism and militarism in the region only proves the long term effects of allowing Imperialism and Facism to run unopposed in Greater Dienstad. It is clear, now more than ever, that Arstotzka cannot afford to ignore these cases of injustice and oppression.”

In recent months, the Istoloa region has been pulled into the spotlight following a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape. From the formation of the Western Díenstadi Trade Agreement in 2009 to Rodrigo Fremonero’s coup in Istoloa in 2013, the region has been seeing a struggle for power between the Creoloso and the colonial elites. While the Creoloso are the majority in most nations in the regions, they have historically held little power. Samarasta, one of the few nations with a Creoloso majority in government, is now under threat from Fustera and the Ordenite Reich. With the majority Creoloso population finally awakening to claim what political and economic rights have been stolen from them, the historic colonial elite are taking radical steps. With Samarasta on the verge of war and Tupenga embroiled in a heated civil war, the eyes of Greater Dienstad have turned to this region.

While there has not been any official declarations of assistance for the rebels of Tupenga, many within the People’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs are discussing what actions to take in the coming weeks.

Breaking News: The unanswered IFDF procurement order finally answered

Federal City of Yeltsingrad - Today, the procurement order from IFDF to Lyran Arms was finally answered by Marshite representative, after several year dormant, unanswered. The order, consisting 3 Pijl-class Arsenal Ship and Hatchet-class modular multi-role frigate for the Ikheria Navy and LY83 "Fox" Light Multirole 4 x 4 Utility Vehicle. Because its order came very long time before the answer, IFDF was planning to negotiate with Lyran Arms for adjusting the order, likely reducing the quantity needed.

Southern Territories
Annual Mayhem During Midsummer Holiday

The Midsummer Holiday is in full swing throughout the nation, no more so than in the borderlands of the Southern Territories, where excitement is more than average for the nationwide relaxing celebrations. This year is no exception, as the frontier with Tupiola along the Burgess River is given over to the annual Mayhem, with car crazy drag racers disturbing the slumber of hard working villagers throughout all hours of the night. The merriment spreads on both sides of the border, with many illicit and, quite frankly, disturbing activities are enjoyed by the banks of the Burgess, known during Midsummer as "Nookie Gulch". Both Tupiocan and Eitoan authorities have rolled out the customary precautions; emergency detoxification services, rapid disposition of drug, immorality and public intoxication cases, and of course relaxed repatriation of partiers both ways across the border. Medical services and hospitals and clinics in the area have bolstered their pre-natal care facilities for the next nine months, and surprised teens will be visited with their souvenir of Mayhem: a fresh batch of brunette and redheaded babies, alternatively delighting and enraging the new grandparents. In the town of Gvach, Mayor Chris Bunting commented "Good lord, what a mess. Just look at all this trash. I wish they'd take this crap elsewhere, maybe Kelso and leave us alone! Same thing every year, what are you going to do?" Mayor Bunting noted "word's getting out too much, and there's more visitors getting in on the action than ever before. This year even Federal Ralkovia sent a temporary consulate to bail their kids out. Don't they have anything better to do?"

Bombing Rocks Downtown Midat; 142 killed, further 601 injured

Earlier this morning at around eight fifteen just as the work day was beginning a bomb went off at the Royal Grand Station in downtown Midat killing more than a hundred people and injuring hundreds more. Following the morning bombing authorities received a proclamation video from a guerilla group in the disputed territories named the Free Sons of Gurtenburg. In the video the group claimed responsibility of the bombing stating that it was their "divine duty to set right the wrongs of the usurper and his people" referring to King Seram and the citizenry of Turenbourg. Emergency services are being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of casualties that are being brought in. Surrounding towns and villages have sent their own emergency services in an effort to help Midat. Home Guard Division 3 is currently being mobilized to assist in both search and rescue as well as medical treatment. His Royal Majesty quickly made a statement to the Kingdom soon after he had an updated understanding of what is going on.

"My fellow countrymen today we were attacked by an unseen enemy that claims that the killing of your brothers and sisters is a righteous crusade for them. It pains me at this moment and will for the rest of my life that the blood of innocent Tupiocans was spilled under my watch. Currently I have deployed my own men to the city in order to help everyone, I have also informed the proper authorities that the Royal Palace is to be opened up as an emergency hospital and refuge for the victims of this horrid attack. My own doctors and medical staff have been given clear instructions to treat everyone equally from noble to commoner.

This war that I vowed to finish has crawled itself back into our glorious capitol, as many of you may remember the summer offensive in which separatists nearly drove us out of our own city but we held firm. Now they try to push us out of our own city through intimidation. There will not be a second bombing for I will not allow that to happen. Fear is their weapon but we will make them fear us and use their weapon against them and I will make sure that the men responsible for this attack will be hung in the middle of Midat. Long live the citizens of Tupioca!"

Military action in the disputed territories has drastically increased as well as an increased presence on the outskirts of Gurtenburg the second largest city in the western territories. The RASC have begun a savage bombing campaign against known enemy strongholds within the city as retaliation for the Midat bombing. Special Operations Commander Grand Master Jeremiah of the Cross released a statement that a Knights were scouring the city and the countryside for those responsible for the attack in Midat. He did not divulge whether or not any of the missions were successful but with the increased presence of troops outside of Gurtenburg and the increased bombing campaign mean that the war is only escalating even further.
