ARMITAGE ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR 2022
Representative Sabine Armitage (BCP) announces her candidacy for President in 2022.
PROVIDENCE - Representative Sabine Armitage announced her candidacy for President of Zamastan in the 2022 election cycle, becoming the second major-political individual to do so. In her fiery speech, she rallied the crowd, stating "it is time that we go back to the roots of our great nation, working to boost our economy, serve our people, protect our interests, and lead the world everywhere we go."
Sabine Deleaux Armitage is a Zamastanian politician serving as the junior congresswoman from Northern Isle Province's 7th district, a seat she was elected to in 2016. She is a member of the Blue Conservative Party, and was a mainline a candidate for President of Zamastan in the 2020 Zamastan presidential election, seeking to replace Foley Sakzi who was not seeking a second term reelection. She lost the race to former-Governor of Alutia and now-President Atticus Moreau. However, she succeeded in gaining 108 votes to Moreau's 139, with many experts citing Cain Blackwater's achieving of 80 votes as a key reason for her loss. It is unknown whether Cain Blackwater will run in 2022, but he has previously stated he has no intention to run again.
Armitage drew national recognition when she won the Blue Conservative Party's primary election for the Northern Isle's 7th congressional district on June 4th, 2016. She defeated BCP Caucus Chair Randen Abotsford, a 7-term incumbent, in what was widely seen as the biggest upset victory in the 2016 election primaries. She went on to win the district's seat in the 2016 general election. Armitage majored in international relations and economics at the University of Tofino, graduating cum laude in 2010.
She was previously an activist and worked part-time as a waitress, bartender, and fast-food employee before running for Congress in 2016. She is one of only 13 congresswomen among the 202 BCP lawmakers currently in the Congress and one of 54 women among 421 lawmakers in Congressional Hall as a whole. Despite her position in the Blue Conservative Party, she has been described by many experts as a moderate who leans into social liberalism and fiscal conservative policies.
Already in the race is Brendan Dennadeer, the de-facto leader of the 2018-19 PoverTea Movement. Dennadeer, 60, is known for his activist work in lowering the influence of corporations in the political process. During the course of the protests, specifically in 2019, he delivered a speech in which he said "corporations sit back and drink their tea while the rest of us sit in poverty," coining the popularly used phrase of the movement. Dennadeer was arrested twice during the course of the 10 month-long protests.
Sabreen Jafri was ousted from the Presidency of Barangadesh in a 2003 coup.
TOFINO - President Atticus Moreau made a dangerous and risky political move by meeting with the former-President of Barangadesh, Sabreen Jafri, in Tofino on Monday. At a conference for young leaders, Moreau paid a visit to keynote speakers, including former-President Jafri, who was ousted from power in a 2003 coup. She fleed Daccas following her ousting and was granted asylum in Zamastan. Since then, the Barangadesh-Zamastan relationship had been teetering, but this unplanned meeting may throw the tensions cold once more. President Moreau shook former-President Jafri's hand, talked with her for a few minutes, and then left to meet with other speakers. The interaction, which was unplanned according to aides for the President, sent Barangadeshi politicians into a tirade, with their National Assembly voting narrowly to condemn Moreau for "conspiring with a toppled traitor".
Zamastanian and Barangadeshi foreign relations have never been stable comparative to most nations in the North Ausiana region in the past half century. Beyond being engaged in occassional combat during the World War (1949-54), Zamastan and Barangadesh tensions have waved inconsistently from bad to teetering on conflict. On April 4, 1976, a group of Barangadeshi seperatists and terrorists took over the Zamastanian Embassy in Daccas. The attackers were in support of the Barangadeshi Nationalist Alliance, which wanted to separate the southern half of the country to become independent. 83 diplomats and citizens were held hostage, with three being executed, for the next 56 days until they were finally freed after a joint Zamastan-Barangadesh operation killed the terrorists on May 30th.
A month into the affair, then-President Elene Abotsford stated her commitment to resolving the dispute without "any military action that would cause bloodshed or arouse the unstable captors of our hostages to attack them or to punish them". On April 21, 1976, Abotsford ordered Operation Osprey Talon to try to free the hostages. The mission failed, leaving six Zamastanian servicemen dead and causing the destruction of two aircraft. The ill-fated rescue attempt led to the self-imposed resignation of Zamastanian Secretary of State Marc-Antoine Dutoit, who had been opposed to the mission from the beginning.
In 2003, the same Barangadeshi Nationalist Alliance siezed power in the coup that toppled President Jafri. Fleeing from the capital of Daccas and residing for a time in Shoassau, she was ultimately granted asylum by then-President Cassious Castovia. Intensive trade and economic relations between Zamastan and Barangadesh has continued largely unabrupted despite the chaotic back and forths, with Barangadesh being the location of many outsourced Zamastanian manufacturing operations.
The 2020 Rio Palito Grand Prix. Arnaud Crozier (51) will head the Zamastan team in the second start with Timothee Snowden (4) qualified in 8th position.
SAN BEAUSOLEIL - Two Zamastanian drivers have qualified for starting positions in the upcoming Rio Palito Grand Prix. The highly decorated Arnaud Crozier, who missed two seasons of racing due to an injury from a 2018 crash, will make his comeback showing in the June 24th race. He is driving under his famous 51 number, and is sponsoring ZSuites & Foresster on his car. Crozier placed second overall in the qualifying placement rounds with a time of 10:01:45, narrowly outscored by barely two seconds by Versenia's Raymundo Ribeiro (9:59:32). A second driver, Timothee Snowden, is starting in 8th place under his number 4 Pegassi sponsored car.
Zamastanian drivers have performed well in previous Rio Palito Grand Prix's, but only once has a Zamastanian won the prestigious event (Percy Mentapier in 1971). Arnaud Crozier has thrice placed in the top three finishing racers, and many experts believe he is Zamastan's best chance at claiming a victory after 50 years.
Crozier is Zamastan's most decorated Formula driver, having placed highly in the Rio Palito Grand Prix on multiple occasions, but also having won other Grand Prix races such as the 2014 and 2016 Staventer Grand Prix's, the 2016 Vessalia, the 2016 Bettencourt and the 2017 Selleaux. He was infamously injured in a 2018 crash during the 2018 Staventer Grand Prix, which killed another driver (Elbresia's Kocsis Alexander). Crozier had emergency surgery on both of his legs and his right arm, with fears arising that he would need an amputation with the severity of the crash. However, he recovered, returning to last month's Helniemi Prix in Caspiaa and securing a second place spot.
