Occupy Forest RP (OOC/Forest nations only)

Postby Middle Barael » Thu Jun 24, 2021 10:45 am

Turbulence is spreading
In several nations across Forest, the people are beginning to grow enraged by the power and influence in society that corporations possess
Beginning with labour rights protests in Middle Barael, protests are speaking across Forest and beyond in solidarity and mutual outrage
The phrase #OccupyForest is spreading like wildfire across social media
Protestor organizers from across Forest and beyond are trying to forge a united grassroots movement
In cities across Forest, the people are out in the streets, turning their exhaustion and outrage into action
Occupy Forest is upon us

==============================================================================

Welcome to the first RP of the 2021 Chan Island administration! The Lore Ministry and the government as a whole have been hard at work over the last couple months bringing you an entertaining and timely RP for you to enjoy.

Over the last couple weeks, I have been teasing the Occupy Forest movement with my posts about pro-labour and anti-corporate protests in Middle Barael. Nations such as Einswenn and the Nation of Ecologists also began to see protests in solidarity with those in Middle Barael, and now these protests are becoming global as this becomes an official Forest RP.

Your nation may choose to join this RP regardless of their political, or economic system (though it would likely make more sense in a capitalist country, otherwise the protests would merely be in solidarity, not mutual outrage). Your nation does not need to be a member of the Union of Forest, nor must they be located in the in-character Forest world. Your nation obviously is not required to join, but I promise it will be very fun and engaging.

The IC roleplay will actually begin some time in early-to-mid July, and no sign-ups are necessary. However, I will create an OOC thread shortly, and I would appreciate it if you could give me some sort of heads-up if you think you will participate heavily in the RP. do not need to be super long (though they may be), but they should not be one sentence either. Posts may take the form of 1st person reflections, 3rd person storytelling, social media posts from your characters, or even news stories! New characters are encouraged, but if you have already participated in a Forest RP or in some other sort of IC gameplay, I’d recommend perhaps using characters from that too. You may have multiple characters, but be sure to make it clear who is doing what.

The ethos of this movement is basically anger at the power and influence that corporations possess in society. This is such a broad feeling that it can take many forms depending on the nation and the character, ranging from socialist revolutionaries to suburban progressive soccer-moms to hippies to environmental activists. The protests in Middle Barael are mainly populist social democrats, but of course the protests may be different depending on the place and the characters. You may also roleplay as counter-protestors, governments panicking about how to respond to the protests, celebrities in your nation expressing their views, news reporters trying to cover the stories, and more. There are really so many different ways that you can go with this RP, as there are so many possible reactions to the protests.

The year for this RP is the Summer of 2021 CE (or the equivalent of that in whichever calendar your nation uses). Tech should generally be MT, but like with the UoF some moderately PMT or PT elements can be allowed. Similar to the UoF, only humans can participate, but some exceptions can be made in this case.

Thank you all and #OccupyForest!

Given the general state of existence over here, I rather suspect the movement won’t make much progress, but you never know…

We will gladly help you occupy Forest! Just send us fifteen hundred thousand iots and we'll peacefully capture and properly educate all offenders who wish to harm our woodlands by doing something insidiously malicious such as camping. Jutsa has no military to speak of, but fear not: we've got you covered. Here at the Free Armed Services Helping Individuals Save Trees Incorporated, we are under oath to keep the Northern Uninhabited Territories in the safe and caring hands of Jutsa and its business associates. We're committed to stop at nothing short of stockholders' expense to protect our profitable woodlands from the heartless clutches of foreign interest groups. We appreciate your patronage and look forward to doing business with you! And remember, Jutsa means no harm to any!

I’m so glad to see everyone signing up!

So currently it seems that protests have reached all across Middle Barael, Ganden, Einserheim, Eco-City, Garbel, Sæglópur, Seìweí and Cuīxuk? And corporate counterprotests in Lord Dominator? Wow, Occupy Forest is already spreading fast

Great. Just so you know, the problem right now isn’t that the corporations are trying to destroy the actual forests. The people are mad because of how much of a stranglehold corporations have over society, and how they are able to survive such major economic recessions relatively unscathed due to government bailouts while small businesses and local mom-and-pop stores die. Certainly there are environmental concerns intersectionally tied into this, but the main issue for the protestors is more Corporate Domination than it is Environmental Destruction.

And the “Occupy” in “Occupy Forest” is not really meant to be taken literally either. It’s a callback to Occupy Wall Street, which inspired both OOCly and ICly this RP.

Haha, don't worry, I understood; I just forgot to clarify that in my post.

I actually started that post as a joke and then realized that'd be a good opportunity to both explain my total lack of military and provide another dimension to the resentment that'll probably occur within Jutsa during this roleplay. Plus, it's fun imagining my nation as dystopic despite loving my stats. :)

Still, thank you for the clarification; for all you could tell I'd completely missed the point of your telegram/RMB post. xD

As stated on the RMB, I'll be operating off of assumption of MT human, since Parfuhmerie's Demonic nature is not inextricable to my writing. As an aside, despite the actual monopoly that Two Seas Trading Company possesses that would make for this issue to be an exceedingly valid claim — the company occupies roughly the same niches as Amazon and Costco, albeit combined with international shipping and with vastly more influence — Parfuhmerie itself is largely ignorant to the idea of leftism due to the overbearing predominance of Gospel of Wealth-esque altruism. Consider that, then, as the justification behind nonexistent Parfuhmerian protest, in tandem with the tiny population of the city and the near cult of personality centered around their leader.

The primary Parfuhmerian actors here will be Enigma Gang, the Gang responsible for Parfuhmerian journalism and intelligence. Their objective is not at all to interfere with the events, but rather, to gather intel for Sekka Verndara to continue learning from, as he is an individual always concerned with his own power and how it is displayed towards his citizenry. If all goes well, he hopes that he'll be able to keep a better point-of-view of the leftist struggle, so that he can continue to... manage Parfuhmerie to prevent such sentiments from even taking place in the first place, although he much prefers effective PR and legitimate philanthropy over any controversial means. Mind, to him, a corporation that must resort to continued abuses and corrupt behavior such that it attracts the ire of protestors is an ineffectual company with a leadership that fails to understand their responsibility — he, of course, understands his responsibility. Whether he is a virtuous fellow or not is a matter of debate, but Enigma Gang is ambivalent towards their leader's motives for the most part, and will more so emphasize their desire to just be journalists over their leader's wishes.

Most probably, since Middle Barael is evidently the start of all this, I'll be there with the following:
Latah Boe'ir, as the leader, will likely be the main journalist and reporter of the gang. Owing to his empathetic nature, he will likely be observing protests and conducting interviews to glean information of motives.
Mori'akr Voru'ir and Vori Voru'ir will serve as Engima's chauffeurs, and will likely be interacting with average citizens and visiting universities in their off-time, to gather Intel from more informal sources.
Tuy Bashra and Miy Bo'itzra will likely serve to represent the youth's perspective of the matter. It is likely that they will somehow have to find a way to fit into high schools as exchange students of some sort, as I don't think middle schools would be good sources of political intrigue (romantic drama, alas, is relatively unimportant for Enigma, until they can learn more of potential sources).
Thus, it will probably consist of three distinct sceneries. Generally, it will be fairly clear that Enigma is there for journalistic purposes, and they are not likely to do anything akin to espionage unless rumors of violent plans arise. As for covering my... unorthodox nature, I'd probably end up glossing over it. I don't think it's important, unless in the event of Enigma running off with sensitive information that warrants pursuit, but I doubt the likelihood of that. In the off-chance someone does end up doing that, I do have two replacement methods in the event that we need to stay MT, but I'd expect it to be a fully exotic splinter thread instead of continuing here.

Lastly, in the event of legitimate grievances, riots, or disasters on the part of any parts of the political spectrum, Parfuhmerie is willing to offer Assassin contracts in order to remove leadership and hopefully hasten a peaceful resolution. However, Parfuhmerie's infamously strict protocols with offering such contracts mean that an interested customer would have to prove the necessity of removing such leadership and competence in filling the resultant vacuum. This strange, exhaustive motive is due to the leader Sekka Verndara's insistence on being as inoffensive as possible in his methods. However, due to the MT nature of this roleplay, the only probable option will be Ja'at Karu, a sniper, assuming anyone does ask, but I really don't expect it to arise.

Depending on what occurs, other characters may appear; Sousundowa Carême is most probable, as with our previous attempt, while humanitarian troubles would likely draw MV Crossbar, a humanitarian aid worker, into the fray. This is not an exhaustive list, but these two are the most likely to venture outside.

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Uan aa Boa » Fri Jun 25, 2021 9:41 am

I'm in! We don't have any corporations, obviously, but look out for our agents working behind the scenes to radicalise the protests and encourage them to properly seize the means of production instead of just waving a few placards and asking the corporations if they wouldn't mind playing a bit nicer. This might also be an opportune moment to see how good these multi-nationals actually are when it comes to cyber-security.

This'll be my first RP since the death of the Chairman and the dawn of full AI rule, so I'm looking forward to trying out some new things.

I can’t decide whether to have communists use #OccupyForest to get out the vote or to have the right wing fringe use #OccupyForest to try to do a 1989/color-revolution style coup to try to make a right-libertarian dictatorship.

I’d suggest the former, since OccupyForest is like the opposite of right-libertarianism. They’re literally protesting against the power of corporations

And again, these protests are not only limited to the far-left. You can have communists protesting, but if that doesn’t fit as much with your nation, you could easily also see Social Democrats or Democratic Socialists or even the occasional angry Social Liberal protesting. Just like the real world Occupy Wall Street or Indignados movement, there can and likely will be many different sorts of people, so if Socialist Revolutionaries is not so much your speed, that’s perfectly fine

I will be participating also. The main protesters will be communists trying to preserve communism after the government allowed several ‘government-endorsed services’(aka private companies) in major cities. There will also be protests in Seale, an autonomous city, due to it being militarily occupied by the mayor in fear of the Occupy Forest protests, and due to it’s autonomous status, the government hasn’t been able to do anything about it yet.

Hi everyone!

Now that I am back I will try to start the RP in a few days. I do have a lot of catching up to do and I have other Lore Ministry surprises to work on, but this should start soon.

In the meantime, you can start to plan how the protests may go in your different nations, and give introductions about your characters

Gandenia is joining Occupy Forest RP. There will be multiple protests in Ganden, the capital and Tuv Ulem, the biggest city, but they will not be too big, as Gandenia’s citizens have other problems to worry about.

I’m not sure yet exactly how I’ll play, but I’ll probably include the characters Arik Mulbeder as the leader of the movement in Gandenia, MP Dorit Mara and MP Gideon Laor as politicians supporting the movement, and of course Sovereign Nonta Ytbaum as the head of state.

Considering I'm running around with (negotiated) Fantasy tech, I don't think there'd be any qualms with political differences. Should be fine as long as you join the region. That there's only democratic civs is probably just a consequence of some of our other folks not joining yet.

Which completely reminds me, Middle Barael, that it's technically more accurate to refer to me in-roleplay as Parfuhmerie, not Shwe. It's an innocuous error, mind.

Your nation does not have to be Democratic. The only requirements are that it is mostly Modern Tech and human and in Forest.

It has been long enough, I am finally joining this RP! First ever forum RP btw.

I'll make the first NoE IC post sometime in the near future. Don't know why I put off doing this.

Barael, if I send a post before you post whatever you plan to post, do you need to do anything with me when I land in the airport, or would I be allowed to assume that goes off without a hitch? if the latter, I plan to have some initial plans in Parfuhmerie, then have the lot of them moving into their temporary accommodations.

Just a heads up to everyone, I might not actually be able to participate in the roleplay, simply on the grounds that I've been suffering from unprecedented bouts of exhaustion the past couple of weeks. I'm hoping that I'll have the energy to do more than my lone, contextless post, but atm I'm putting what energy I have into irl stuff.

I'll look forward to reading through this regardless. Again, I hope I can participate, but don't wait up for me if you have major plans. :)
You're welcome to telegram me any questions you have of the game. Unless I've CTE'd (ceased to exist) - then you physically can't do that.
