Flipped and Mixed!

HUElavia take mixed results in order to keep pace in the Top 4 of Group A.

HUElavia 0-3 Kriegiersien
(16-25, 20-25, 23-25)
(Hersey Centre, Bathurst, Quebec and Shingoryeo)

Hispinas 0-3 HUElavia
(17-25, 14-25, 18-25)
(Norman Williams Arena, Bathurst, Quebec and Shingoryeo)

Coming off the two statement victories, HUElavia was on a high, looking to play well and get more points and victories in the VWE. Their next two opponents were Kriegiersien and Hispinas, where Las Amarillas/As Amarelas felt they could take on the two teams. The first was at Hersey Centre (13,450), and the second match was at Norman Williams Arena (10,890), both in Bathurst, with a HUElavian majority in the crowd.

The first game saw Kriegiersien dominate the match, where HUElavia was playing catch-up throughout the game, but despite inching closer in each set, Kriegiersien got the hits needed to win the first two sets. The final set was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams not wanting to give up, but ultimately, Mealor took the winning shot to give a sweeping victory against HUElavia, also handing the ladies their first defeat in the tournament. The ladies were furious and looked to make it up against Hispinas, which they did just so. Las Amarillas/As Amarelas attacked left and right getting shots in wherever they could. These shots were too much for Hispinas and they could not come up with answers, and HUElavia went on their own sweep over Hispinas, with Tao scoring the winning shot.

The next two matches will be against Permecutan (19) and Chromatika (25), with both matches being played at Norman Williams Arena (10,890) in Bathurst. The ladies hope that two more victories can inch them closer to the Quarter-Finals, which is still very possible, even with their 4-1 record at the moment. Here's to hoping for two more victories and a fun match for HUElavia.

BACK ON TRACK AT VWE 12
WITH ONLY FOUR GAMES LEFT MYTANIJA LOOK READY TO STRIKE

by Almedina Radovanovic

Mytanija have got their campaign back on track after tasting defeat for the first time as world champions in the last double-header against Kohnhead. Wins over Siovanija and Teusland and Felinetopia move the team into contention for the #1 seed from Group B, although Kohnhead seem determined to hang on. Both teams share 6-1 records but Kohnhead currently occupy the top spot due to their slightly better points total of 17. Radina Ristic made several changes for the Siovanija and Teusland match following the disappointment of the defeat against Kohnhead, with the likes of captain Amalija Kolar and experienced setter Milka Marovic coming back into the team. Ristic wanted nous in the line-up to try and bounce straight back from the team’s first loss of the tournament. As it turned out they would need absolutely all of it to come away with a win in this match.

They dropped a tight opener 25-23 with Mira Gushtanova uncharacteristically missing two opportunities to finish the point on the last two plays of the set. Siovanija and Teusland defended them successfully and turned those situations into points of their own, enough for them to win the set and really feel confident about how the match was going. They provided further reminder that they are the group’s third seed despite their 2-3 record coming into the match by obliterating the Mytanar defence in the second set to stroll to a 25-14 win. Siovanija and Teusland were 2-0 up and Mytanija were staring down the barrel of a second defeat in two games if they couldn’t turn things around. It necessitated immediate action from Ristic and she brought Majda Omeragic into the game to play alongside Gushtanova, an attempt to provide more spontaneity on the offensive end.

That change seemed to do the trick as Mytanija won the third comfortably 25-18 and the introduction of 23 year old Alenka Kokot for an off-colour Rafaela Kostenceva in the fourth set seemed to finally turn the tide in Mytanija’s favour for good. Kokot was near perfect defensively, playing a huge part in limiting to Siovanija and Teusland to only 6 (SIX!) points in the fourth set with her physically imposing play at the net. Kokot seems to have an excellent on court relationship with Amalija Kolar – as you would expect given that they are domestic team mates – and this manifested itself in a lights out defensive showing in that all important fourth set. Mytanija dominated on their way to a 25-6 win and that meant that the match was level at 2-2 and would be heading for a fifth set decider. This one was much closer as Siovanija and Teusland appeared to get their mojo back, but strong play by libero Natasa Radic and Milka Marovic created plenty of opportunities for those tasked with scoring. Gushtanova and Omeragic sealed the final two points of the match to hand Mytanija a hard-earned 3-2 win.

In a top-heavy Group B Felinetopia have been one of the better newcomers to the tournament. Diamond Ruff could grow into a very consistent scorer with a little more experience, whilst a more experienced libero-setter pairing in the form of Kismet Tirer and Apollo Solar gives them plenty of know-how when it comes to defensive play and creating scoring opportunities. This encounter was a little bit of a mismatch though as the world champions put out some of their rotation options and gave them a chance to stake a claim for a greater role when the big matches next come around. Natasa Radic started a second game in a row as libero, whilst Tamara Duleva came in at setter. Spasojevic, Pavlovic, Trpkoska and Brajdic completed the starters and they generally did a good job throughout this game as Mytanija won 3-0 without too much trouble after a close first set.

In that opener Felinetopia impressed, pushing Mytanija all the way and the aforementioned Diamond Ruff demonstrated some very intelligent spiking. Tamara Duleva put in a good performance, assisting a number of scoring plays with inviting sets. Spasojevic also showed why she is such an invaluable member of the team with consistent scoring, she grabbed 10 of her 22 points during the opener and played every minute of the match. Spasojevic completed the win with Mytanija’s final four points of the set, edging it 25-23. Thereafter things became a little easier, with Mytanija utilising the same line-up through the second set which was won 25-20.

Radina Ristic made a few changes for the third, allowing Omeragic and Gemac to come into the match as well as Rafaela Kostenceva. Kostenceva had some making up to do for a disappointing performance against Siovanija and Teusland and she made some crucial blocks from her opposite position as Mytanija won the final set 25-17. Rotation is a big policy of the national team under Ristic and she seems determined not to deviate from that plan whatsoever. She will hope that keeping her team fresh so that they can impact games as they did against Siovanija and Teusland continues to pay off. Mytanija don’t want to be 2-0 down but if they end up in that situation they need their potential game-changers to be free from fatigue so that they can do what they do best.

Felinetopia are likely to grow into a talented team with more experience and they should be commended for a good showing so far in this tournament. The group draw and tough nature of the qualification process in this tournament has given them a difficult challenge, but it should leave them in good stead for future editions of the VWE. Tamara Duleva was complimentary of their approach post-game, describing their team as ‘highly competitive’ and saying that ‘more teams like [Felinetopia] can only be good for the health of our sport’.

The Karvian Chronicle

A banging comeback, Srednjaci up ahead; VWE Matchdays 6&7

We had been struggling to get any points on the board as we had won only 1 game from out first 5 matches. Despite fighting hard for results we had barely anything to show for it points wise. We had also been the subjects of multiple close encounters with teams which could’ve won but ended with us screwing ourselves over. The latest sting in the back were the two consecutive defeats against Hispinas and Permecutan. It seemed like we were simply not good enough, which is a something no Bollonischian would be ready to accept this. We would have to make a comeback, and to do that we needed to compete. We were up against Chromatika in Matchday 6 and this would be make or break for us. This was a test in which we had no other option than to succeed. And surely enough the players delivered. We immediately started on the front foot as we recorded large number of points in the first set eventually beating Chromatika 25-14. This first set performance showed the sheerbrilliance with which the players had performed. The result was a dominating one, and it was soon repeated as we won the second set 25-16 nearly securing the game itself by going 2-0 up. It now depended all on the performance we would give in the third set. And for a while these it looked like we could possibly mess up this easy win in three sets and take the game to four sets. Chromatika were leading 23-20 as we seemed to lose out on this set. But due to a miraculous comeback and winning 5 points in a row we were able to claim a victory and get 3 very important points on the board. This victory would be the source of a large amount of confidence and motivation for the players following the heavy defeats against Hispinas and Permecutan. Our next game was against a competitive team in Nagore who had been struggling in this iteration of the Volleyball World Expo and were currently poised at 11th place. This would be a great opportunity to pick up three more points and potentially challenge for the qualifying spots. However underestimating a team like Nagore would lead to us regretting it. And the game started in a horrific manner for us as we lost out in the first set to Nagore 25-16. Nagore seemed strong and had taken our chances, something we couldn’t do, but even despite that Nagore weren’t the toughest opponent we had faced. We should be doing much better as the overconfidence could be seen in the players’ faces. Their grins had been wiped off as they found themselves trailing by one set. We came back, and that too in style by winning the next three sets, securing the win against Nagore and moving unto 6th place, two points short of a qualification berth. These two wins will be crucial heading into the home stretch of the VWE.

Vreton Bulls takes largest lead of the season; BVL Matchdays 13-15 Round up

Matchday 12 saw two teams tied at the top with a lot of competition for the other playoff and VCL spots which would determine which teams could play in international club volleyball competitions. Matchday 13 started off with a banging encounter between the Vreton Bulls and the Marda Frogs which went all the way to the fifth set as both teams fought hard for the win. Marda Frogs who won the 3rd and 4th sets would have a natural advantage in the 5th set coming off two consecutive victories in sets but surprisingly it were the Bulls who took the win, by winning the final set 15-8. Torrijas Wizards also won their game over the Maihar Lions in what was a comfortable game for them as they won it in 3 sets similar to the fashion in which the Akusha Rovers dispatched off the Yetis. San Pablo Rockers meanwhile managed to rise to the second position after recording a 4 set win over the Warriors as they saw the Karvian Tigers loose out to the Kings of Fermont in a duration of 5 sets. The game between the Kings and the Tigers were an extremely competitive and challenging one which eventually came down to the Kings managing to clinch the victory. The San Pablo Rockers had managed to overtake the strong opposition of the Karvian Tigers as they surprisingly lost to the Kings of Fermont who currently sit at the 6th position on the table. As Matchdays 14 rolled around, the performance of the Karvian Tigers seemed to go from bad to worse as they suffered a catastrophic defeat to the Lagos Yetis this time. San Pablo Rockers and the Vreton Bulls used this opportunity to the fullest by winning their respective games against the Marda Frogs and Kings of Fermont giving them a healthy lead over the Karvian Tigers. The two sides from Maihar were meanwhile parts of thrilling games as both teams took the game to 5 sets against their respective opponents. Both of them came out on top as the Lions defeated the Rovers while the Warriors took care of the Wizards. With Matchdays 15 came the ever important clash between the San Pablo Rockers and the Vreton Bulls. The Vreton Bulls took an early lead winning the first set, however the Rockers soon came back. However as the Bulls won two back to back sets the Bulls had sealed the game and a difference of 2 wins from the second placed side. The Marda Frogs rose up to 7th as they beat the Torrijas Wizards in a competitive 3 sets. The Karvian Tigers tied the Rockers on points as they bested the Maihar Lions in 4 sets, as this similar feat was repeated by two other teams namely The Kings and the Rovers. Going into the last three Matchdays the table remains increasingly close as there are 4 teams on 18 and 16 fighting for the top two spots.

The crash down to Earth can be devastating for a team that had been one of the high-flying sides in a competition.

Such was the case for the Sarzonian national volleyball team as it got a cold dose of reality by dropping consecutive matches to Cassadiagua in four sets and Kohnhead in three.

After the Stars took the first set from Cassadaigua 25-21, they lost the next three 18, 25 and 16. Then against Kohnhead, it was 18, 20, and 17.

For coach Alan Ryan, the results weren't that surprising.

"Both Cassadiagua and Kohnhead are among the elite teams in this sport. We gave the Dagans a decent fight in the first two sets, but we got an education against the second ranked team for sure. Then we really got our arses handed to us by Kohnhead."

There doesn't appear to be much relief in the offing for Sarzonia (5-2) after the two crushing defeats, as fifth ranked Siovanija and Teusland and seventh ranked and defending champions Mytanija are up next. Then comes the match against Abanhfleft and Felinetopia to wrap up the group stage in the 12th World Volleyball Expo.

All of a sudden, a berth in the knockout rounds, which the Stars looked to have strong position for just two matches ago, is now in serious jeopardy. For Ryan, however, the most important thing for his team is to focus on Siovanija and Teusland.

"We can't let ourselves get distracted," he said. "I didn't think I'd have to break out the whole "trap match" speech for the second and third ranked teams in the multiverse, but we're in the most difficult stretch of matches on our schedule. We can't afford to let up."

WORLD VOLLEYBALL EXPO 12

SECOND INTERNATIONAL WIN AT WORLD EXPO

MATCHDAY 6

Srednjaci 23 25 25 25
Nagore 25 19 19 18

ANA WANG : Dear viewers, welcome to the show dedicated to volleyball. Of course, this is EXPO World Vplleyball 12. Our national team achieved its second victory in this competition. This victory is very important for the agreement of the two teams in the men's and women's competition that will represent us at the Olympic Games. after the win against Chromatika, our team managed to beat Nagore as well. Although we lost the first set, we got the impression that our volleyball players were the main actors of the whole match. Upstairs he scored points mostly on the mistakes of our volleyball players. As soon as our players reduced their mistakes, Nagore could not follow it. The remaining three sets went to our volleyball players.

" We are very happy and satisfied with the result. Although I was not satisfied with the play today. Again we made a lot of mistakes in attack and on serve. There is a lot of room to fix the play and I believe we will fix it all in the foreseeable future. "said coach Hrvoje Rebić.

"We play great on this tournament. We always miss a little bit to win even more convincingly. However, you saw that we made a lot of mistakes. We had the first set in our hands but then inexplicably fell. I hope it's behind us now because we give too many cheap points to our opponents. " said team captain Ivan Jureković.

MATCHDAY 7

Natanians and Nosts 25 22 25 25
Srednjaci 23 25 23 9

Just when we thought a good period was ahead of us, we experienced a cold shower. We reopened the match very well. Our volleyball players lead the entire first set with a + 3 difference against the Natanians and Nosts. And then an inexplicable drop in the score of 20:17 for Srednjaci. Instead of slowly bringing the set to an end in our favor, our volleyball players allowed the opponent to come in at 21:20! Time out of our coach didn’t change anything. At 23:23, bad service Mario Traparić into the net. It is a set point that the opponents immediately used.
In the second set we had a +6 lead, 20:14, we knelt down again but this time we managed to bring the set to an end with 25:22!
The third set of Natanians and Nosts leads 17:11, ours arrive at 18:18. Then Natanians and Nosts leave at 22:18, our players arrive and turn the score around at 23:22 but then Natanians and Nosts take the set. After so many missed opportunities comes the absolute decline of the game in the fourth set. The inexplicable breakdown of the system in which we were swept off the field. Probably we managed to lose the match like this.

Tough matches await us. We won't make much progress with a game like this against Natanians and Nosts. We need to be more focused and better.

HOW DO YOU LIKE THOSE APPLES?
INSPIRED MYTANARS BEAT SORRY SARZONIA TO SILENCE BAD TASTE PRE-MATCH COMMENTS

by Almedina Radovanovic

A full-strength Mytanar team dispatched Sarzonia professionally in four sets, dropping the second 25-23 after going 1-0 up before winning the final two to have the final word on what has been a simmering rivalry. Radina Ristic had been keen to play down that aspect of the match, she always claimed that she was just focused on winning games. The Mytanar players seemed highly motivated out on the court, perhaps giving a different view on the off-field barbs some of the Sarzonians have sent their way. There was great unity in the team as they celebrated every point as a group and Mira Gushtanova came up big, scoring a match-leading 24 points, nearly a full quarter of the Mytanar total. Ristic’s post-match comments betrayed her pre-match ones. The win meant a lot to her too.

“I think we were always determined to give a strong performance against this opponent. I didn’t need to motivate my players with a rousing speech or anything like that. The pre-match nonsense from their side did it for me. I cut out a few comments they had made about Mytanija and about the team from the newspapers and put them up on our whiteboard in the middle of the changing room. The girls saw those comments and it served as a bit of a reminder as to why we wanted to win this game, other than getting the points together to qualify out of the group of course.” Ristic explained.

“I think we’ve acted respectfully throughout the week, as world champions should. We’ve not done too much talking like they have. We let our performance on the court do it for us. There are levels to this game.” Ristic said, a comment which represents perhaps the most open shot she has sent back in response to the Sarzonians. There’s also a lot of truth in what she said too, Mytanija’s top players are some of the best in the multiverse at the moment and Gushtanova, Kolar and Marovic all came up big throughout this game. Marovic’s consistency in setting up huge spikes for Gushtanova, Kolar and Kokot at the net is invaluable in important games and she displayed that skill once again here.

It wasn’t quite as dominating a defensive performance as we have seen from Mytanija in some of the team’s wins during this tournament. Concession of 85 points through the match demonstrates that and Mytanija only outscored the Stars by thirteen over the course of the game, but it was a match which the team wanted and needed to win given some of the off-court noise in the run up to it. They completed the assignment and defeated Sarzonia with room to spare and it is a result which likely needs Mytanija only requiring one win from their final two matches to qualify for the knockout rounds. They will be wanting to qualify as one of the top seeds though and wins in both of the remaining games would confirm that. They are a pair of potential banana skins though as Mytanija will take on Rushmori neighbours (and rivals) Græntfjall as they try to avenge the national football team’s defeat in the Cup of Harmony as well as Banija, a team that have demonstrated some potential thus far in this tournament. The match against the Græntfjallers will allow MOF Top League scouts an opportunity to look at 17 year old hot prospect Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir a bit more closely too.

The double-header wasn’t all plain sailing for Mytanija as they tasted a second defeat of the tournament against Abanhfleft. The Fleftic team needed five sets to see off Mytanija’s second-string, displaying brilliant defensive ability in the final set to restrict the Mytanars to only 8 points. Radina Ristic wasn’t too displeased with the performance though, noting that Abanhfleft were one of the ‘most promising nations’ in this tournament and remarking that they ‘are a nation which could end up doing very well in the knockout rounds once they get there’. The team could be forgiven for having most of their attention on the Sarzonia game, but it was an opportunity for some of those further down the depth chart like Majda Omeragic, Safija Bojic and Zuzana Brajdic to stake a claim for a greater role as Mytanija head down the home straight of the group stage. Unfortunately for those players they didn’t manage to do that with a victory, though there were some flashes of brilliance in what was a very competitive match.

Mytanija dropped the first before winning back-to-back sets in the second and third. The 25-17 third set was quite impressive and Sara Gemac displayed her worth as she rotated into the line-up for that set. Ristic returned to playing both Pavlovic and Trpkoska for the fourth and fifth and Mytanija did lack that same presence at the net. Gemac has mostly played in the back row during this tournament, working alongside Marovic and Asenova on the defensive end and acting as an extra creative option when plays go off-plan. She is an extremely versatile player but the third set allowed her to demonstrate her bread and butter play at the net, a position she favours with her club team Atletik. At 23 you would normally say she still has room to improve but Gemac is already so well-rounded it is difficult to see what it is that she can work on.

All in all a reasonable double-header for Mytanija. They have a 7-2 record heading into the final couple of matches and will feel that one more strong win will be enough to see them safely into the knockout stages. There have been some disappointing performances in certain games, but a lot of that is down to rotating players and trying different schemes. In the knockout stages you would expect Mytanija’s first choice line-up to be used fairly relentlessly barring poor form or injuries. That should hopefully ensure that defeats against the likes of Kohnhead and Abanhfleft are not repeated.

Mytanija were unexpected champions last time, but now they have a target on their backs and Ristic will need to underline that to the players ahead of the final pair of matches. It’s often said that the most difficult thing is staying at the top once you have got there and the team still need to secure qualification. It would be a major disappointment to not get out of the group and both Græntfjall and Banija could cause problems. They will have to eliminate some of the sluggishness that has beset them at the start of matches against lower-ranked opposition if they want to avoid those problems multiplying. A full-strength line-up to start both games would seem to be the best way to do that, but Ristic has been committed to rotating through the squad and she might continue down that path. Hopefully it can pay off and see Mytanija into the knockout stages.

The Volleyball Vignettes
with Aisling Keane

Do you guys have any idea how close I was to declaring this Volleyball World Expo a write-off? It's a lot closer than I thought I would be, but at the same time it's not as close as you guys think it would be. I'm not going to lie; those back-to-back losses to Malandrin and Cassadaigua really shook my confidence in this team. The win against Kohnhead restored that hope a little bit, and then losing to Siovanija and Teusland eroded that confidence yet again. So when the game against Mytanija came around, I was basically reduced to crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Mytanija, along with Kohnhead, have been tearing through this Group B, and both of those teams are now the frontrunners for qualifying through to the playoffs after our little slip-ups took us off of the top spot. But then again, we already beat Kohnhead. Could we do it against the Mytanars as well?

As it turns out, we actually can do it. We had to go through all five sets to take the win, but take the win we did. And it was winning that very first set that pretty much set the stage for us snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Yes, Mytanija took the second and third sets, but the knowledge that we could take a set from them was the truly important thing because that was the thing that let us win set number four and, eventually, set number five. After that, Felinetopia was pretty much a cakewalk. They managed to come very, very close in the second set, but after we snuck that one past, we pretty much smashed the third set to take the 3-0 win and maximum points.

But once again, things are not going to get any easier. We're still yet to play both Graintfjall and Sarzonia, and while both teams are on the edge of qualification (and maybe closer to slipping off of it), they're still very much a danger to our own chances. One loss could be the difference. We simply can't afford to lose one, let alone both games. Our core group of players have got both the talent and the experience, but time is just not on their side. This might well be the last chance that they all have in bringing home the bacon. And wouldn't we all love it if we win the Volleyball World Expo? Wouldn't we?

The dressing room was a real quiet place after the Sarzonian national volleyball team lost its fourth consecutive match, this time to Mytanija.

The match took four sets, as did their previous loss, to Siovanija and Teusland. The fact that both Siovanija and Teusland and Mytanija were top 10 volleyball programmes did little to console the Stars, who have taken on the maxim of "there are no moral victories."

Now? The Stars have two matches left, against No. 11 Abanhfleft and unranked Felinetopia. Even though Felinetopia were already eliminated and the possibility that Sarzonia would also be merely playing out the string in that matchup was a realistic one, Coach Alan Ryan made sure to tell his team to keep fighting.

"I don't want anyone in this dressing room to simply give up and send it through the post," he said. "I want fighters. I want a team that will give it their all."

He got that team in the ninth edition as an unheralded Sarzonia advanced to the semifinals in Cassadaigua before falling to eventual champions 95X. Sarzonia declined to field a team in the 10th edition before barely sneaking into the knockout rounds in the 11th and then knocking out the top overall seeds. For this team, however, the defining moment may well have been their allowing the Mytanars to get into their heads with talk of "disrespect."

The Stars players kept their handshakes perfunctory and didn't engage their opponents in small talk after their losses, but they took great pains to keep to that approach after the Mytanija defeat. The last thing Ryan wanted was an instant replay of the tensions that led up to the match. He told his team to use the loss and the attention paid in Mytanar media afterward as a lesson.

"We can't afford to get into wars of words," he said. "We've got a job to do, and playing volleyball, sound, fundamental, winning volleyball is that job."

It's time. MD10-11 Cutoff.

OOC: The scores are up, but the work is not done yet. I'll be rechecking the results to see there's any change I need to make for the final points tally, so please expect about an hour or two before any quarterfinal fixtures are up. Since the knockout rounds will expect a different location hosting it, expect IC informations for them to be up later tonight as well.

Welcome to Twin Cities!

Saint John-Habpo Municipality has been one of the oldest and largest cities in Quebecois history. Located on the Mouth of the Tartanmouth River that separates the bays incorporating two halves of the area (western half being Habpo, and eastern half Mipo-Saint John), the port city has and continues to be a major force for the Quebecois heavy industry (unlike in Halifax, where the light industry's demise decades prior didn't help nobody), as well as the home to the Habponian Brahmins, the traditional upper class who reside in western half of Habpo and are commonly associated with social clubs in the city centre or elsewhere. Nowadays though, it's better known as the city of innovations, aided by the highest numbers of schools per capita in Quebec (students is different story), and the Twin Cities' history and ability to develop its own reputation have helped itself mature into a more well-rounded area.

Historically, the Twin Cities, as with rest of the Acadie province, share a long history of volleyball, the indoor sport that was introduced to Quebec in early-mid 1900s, so over a century ago, and was quickly adopted to local schools and athletic clubs. The sport's particular status, popularised by the success of men's professional team Mipojoseon VC and the city's two women's and two men's collegiate teams, remains to this day, and is also reflected in the location of two arenas- Yongma Arena in Habpo and The Gazebo in Mipo-Saint John.

Yongma Arena (or in commercial rights, KD Arena), the Twin Cities' primary arena, is a state of art arena located right beside the old Mipo Port, where the old Commons and surrounding districts are being maintained by the Port Authority. While normally reserved for the Habpo Acadiens (QHL) and Habpo Celtics (QBL) matches, the 20,600-seater was fit with the VWE-IVF sized court during the offseason for the VWE. The airy realms of the arena, aided by large crowd capacity and food gallery available on the second floor, should provide for exciting competition. Before and after the match, the visiting fans are welcome to try local seafood, visit nearby museums, or just have a walk around the area!

Mipojoseon Arena, or more commonly known as The Gazebo, is one of the oldest indoor arenas in the country. The arena, home to the Mipojoseon VC, seats 14,000 on a sellout day (taking account into about 2000 standing room tickets available on the very matchday), and is consistently updated to reflect the standards expected from television broadcasts under the QBC. Its location, only 15 minutes walk away from the Saint John Station for railway travellers, is convenient and works nicely into the more industrialised, newer districts that have developed itself with works of interesting architecture.

Also, in terms of distance by rail between Habpo and the other two host cities:

  • Bathurst-Twin Cities: Unfortunately, there is no high speed railway link on the direct railway line between Bathurst and Twin Cities, so MACH or Nightstar service would be the best bet. MACH serves five times daily between two cities, and would take roughly 3 hours. Nightstar is available twice daily, taking around 3 and a half hours.
  • Halifax-Twin Cities: VELO runs 10x Daily between the two cities, taking around 1:30-1:45. MACH and Nightstar services are available with higher frequencies, but considerably longer travel time.

Seventh Heaven!

HUElavia win seven consecutive matches in order to clinch their spot to the Quarter-Finals of the VWE!

HUElavia 3-0 Permecutan
(25-18, 25-22, 25-8)

Chromatika 0-3 HUElavia
(5-25, 23-25, 11-25)

HUElavia 3-1 Nagore
(22-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19)

Natanians and Nosts 2-3 HUElavia
(25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 17-25, 8-15)

HUElavia 3-2 Srednjaci
(21-25, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21, 15-8)

Bollonich 1-3 HUElavia
(21-25, 15-25, 25-19, 22-25)

After their loss to Kriegiersien, Las Amarillas/As Amarelas began to go on a romp over Hispinas and began a very strong stretch of victories. There were some more sweeps, being the likes of Permecutan and Chromatika, along with some 2-point advantage victories over Nagore and Bollonich. Although, the main victories that were memorable were against Natanians and Nosts, which had HUElavia come back from a 2-0 deficit to win 2-3 in the 5th and final set, as well as over coming a 1-2 deficit to Srednjaci to win 3-2 on the 5th set as well. The victories has the ladies in a great mood and with motivation to do their best in the coming days.

At the end, hosts Quebec and Shingoryeo won Group A with 29 Points, while HUElavia advanced in 2nd Place with 27 Points, followed by Hispinas with 20 Points and Commonwealth of Baker Park in 4th Place with 19 Points. In Group B, Kohnhead wins the group with 28 Points, followed by Mytanija in 2nd with 26 Points, Abanhfleft in 3rd with 25 Points, and Cassadaigua in 4th Place with 22 Points. Thus, the Quarter-Final fixtures are as follows: Quebec and Shingoryeo vs Cassadaigua, HUElavia vs Abanhfleft, Kohnhead vs Commonwealth of Baker Park and Mytanija vs Hispinas. HUElavia and Abanhfleft will meet in Twin Cities, which is a 3 hour trip by rail from Bathurst to the Final Location. They will play at Mipojoseon Arena, nicknamed The Gazebo (14,000). The fans will be flocking out to Twin Cities, as they look to cheer on the ladies in a grand opportunity to advance to their 3rd consecutive Semi-Finals. It won't be an easy match, and the ladies are training hard as always, studying film and discussing tactics for the match. In their off time, the team is enjoying some sightseeing of the cities. Here's to hoping for a spectacular match and a possible spot for the Final Four of the VWE.

MYTANIJA SAFELY QUALIFY FOR KNOCKOUT STAGES
IMPRESSIVE WINS SET-UP MATCH VERSUS HISPINAS, BUT TRANSFER RUMOURS DOMINATE

by Almedina Radovanovic

Mytanija finished their group very strongly in the final double-header against Græntfjall and Banija. Two victories, with neither going the full five-sets, allowed them to relax safe in the knowledge that they could not be passed by those in the chasing pack. The qualification spot for the knockout stages was secure and they would be playing for a chance at going back-to-back as world champions. Mira Gushtanova was ever present in both matches as she looks to stake a claim as one of the greatest volleyball players in the multiverse and she was once again in top form. Gushtanova scored a match-leading total in both fixtures, with 22 points against our Rushmori neighbours Græntfjall and then a further 21 against the Banijans. She’s such a consistent scorer and it’s no surprise that even despite Radina Ristic’s commitment to rotating through her squad that she called upon Gushtanova to ensure that Mytanija comfortably finished inside the top two in Group B. Finishing any lower could have meant a slightly more intimidating draw for the knockout rounds against either HUElavia or the Group A winners Quebec and Shingoryeo. Both would represent very difficult match-ups and they are the sort of games you’d prefer to leave until later on in the tournament.

The match against Græntfjall also gave Mytanar scouts the opportunity to have a closer look at 17 year old Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir up against strong opposition. Scouts from all of the top Mytanar clubs were present, including from both of the Thessian giants with both Olympic and Atletik understood to be wanting to improve at the opposite position. Wanjirsdóttir stands at 2.01m and offers a versatility which could make her an attractive proposition to either of those two clubs. Her height makes her a fantastic defensive presence but she also showed plenty of appetite to score, as evidenced by her team-leading 19 points against Mytanija. Being able to score from the opposite position is an invaluable skill given that most offensive plays run towards the other side of the net, where outside hitters like Gushtanova thrive. Wanjirsdóttir managed to cause Gushtanova problems defensively (a 2.01m vs 1.87m mismatch playing its part in that), particularly in the second and third sets. Græntfjall won the second and pushed Mytanija all the way in the third, saving three set points before finally succumbing. Wanjirsdóttir wasn’t always able to prevent Gushtanova scoring, but then who can manage that? What was really impressive was how she used her offensive prowess to give Gushtanova problems going the other way, something which resulted in Radina Ristic directing Sara Gemac to help on that side of the net. It was only when that help arrived that Mytanija were able to really slow Græntfjall’s hot prospect down.

Whether Wanjirsdóttir ends up in the MOF Top League or not remains to be seen. There is undoubted interest from the Mytanar side but she is a Notschach player still and you can be sure that they will be looking to get the best deal possible. It isn’t a secret that clubs in the MOF Top League have money given the very public sponsorship deals some have signed in recent years. A lot of these deals carry over from those that the football sections of these sports clubs are able to draw. Atletik have their relationship with brewing giants Guinec, whilst Olympic are awash with cash thanks to their deal with popular coffee shop chain Kafa. Litala ’93, ever the rock-and-roll club of Mytanar sport, are linked with Thessian alcoholic spirit company Pačariz. The popularity of flavoured rakija and vodkas creates the sponsorship deal which fuels Litala’s domestic success.

These companies are able to sponsor the sports clubs’ football sections very handsomely and the clubs tack on their other sections for an extra bonus. For the companies it is a slightly larger expense, but they are able to justify it with the exclusivity of being linked with names like Litala ’93, Atletik Thessia and Olympic Thessia and being the only company that has their name on the front of their shirts no matter which sport it is that they are playing. It’s this sports business ecosystem which has allowed the best MOF Top League clubs to sign off on deals which wouldn’t be seen as out of place in football’s Mytanar Top League. Given that volleyball isn’t the biggest sport around the multiverse, these large deals in Mytanija represent some of the biggest deals in volleyball and the money on offer in the Mytanar league gives volleyball stars a very lucrative option if they want to come and play in the country.

It is this offer which the likes of Atletik and Olympic are seemingly going to put to Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir and any deal could raise a good amount of money for Notschach too. The MOF Top League would be getting a top player and it could herald the arrival of more international stars into Mytanija’s domestic volleyball league. The story is a little different for the sports clubs which do not have football sections, like OK Rauchnya, Avnalia Odbojka or VK Magevskaya. They form a part of the multi-sports clubs which compete in other team sports like basketball, handball and ice hockey and they also have strong athletics, swimming and boxing sections. These clubs can still bring in reasonable sponsorship deals but it is much more difficult for them to draw the support of enormous sponsors like those clubs with famous football sections can. OK Rauchnya and Avnalia Odbojka cannot reference their successful football section like Atletik can and that gives them much less leverage when trying to negotiate a big sponsorship deal. That means that those clubs aren’t as able to compete when it comes to transfers and wages. We saw this when Mira Gushtanova left Avnalia Odbojka for Litala ’93 for a Mytanar volleyball transfer record of NSD 425,000. These clubs are instead using their sponsorship deals to invest in their facilities and youth recruitment. The fact that they are the sole multi-sports clubs in their regions gives them an advantage in this as they can draw on talent from across their regions, but they are trying to further this and put together scouting programmes across Mytanija and across Rushmore to ensure they can catch prospects like Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir before they go supernova at a tournament like the Volleyball World Expo.

Over the coming years we’re going to see a battle between these two approaches. The multi-sport clubs have to be creative and really plough money into their youth systems, whilst those that are able to generate larger sponsorship deals through the weight of their football teams are able to bring through talented youngsters and also bring in missing pieces through transfers. In volleyball that ability is invaluable. There has been no public complaints from those that aren’t able to use the weight of a football team to negotiate better deals for their other sports, but you can be sure that the likes of OK Rauchnya and Avnalia Odbojka will be frustrated with the possibility of being left behind those that can secure an extra couple of million coruns for their volleyball team because their football team have qualified for an IFCF competition. Sponsors like Guinec and Kafa are all too happy to stump up the funds for that sort of exposure across the multiverse – particularly lucrative for Kafa with Olympic’s jaunt in the IFCF Challengers’ Cup a season ago – and it means that some of the top teams in Mytanar volleyball are seeing huge financial benefits as a curious by-product. Those teams will hope it can continue.

Okay, seriously now. Where in the actual flying fuck did that just come from? What the hell are this team on at the moment? Did their recommended daily dose of ripperonin finally come in or what? Wasn't the volleyball team one of the first teams where everyone tested positive for ripperonin because their official sports drink provider sourced out their water from that lake that was literally spiked with ripperonin? What am I even talking about? Why am I talking about a doping controversy that's over a year old already? What the hell is going on? That's about just the only words that I can force out of my mouth right now. I'm just so shocked. Can't you tell?

I always thought that these final two games against both Sarzonia and Graintfjall were going to be literal do-or-die matches for our volleyball team. These two games were literally the ones that were going to make or break our chances of making it through to the playoffs. We really needed to win both games if we wanted to at least make sure that we did our absolute best to get into the playoffs, or else those losses against Malandrin, Cassadaigua, and Siovanija and Teusland would come back to really bite us hard on the arse. And, to my great shock and surprise, we actually did win both games. I mean, come on! It's bloody Sarzonia and Graintfjall! A win against either team was always going to be difficult, and yet we managed to pull it off. That was literally six straight sets that we just won! We started off this run-up to the playoffs against Sarzonia, whom we all know are anything but pushovers. We already have a sort of a rivalry thing going on with them in lacrosse, and it seems both teams are more than willing to let that rivalry carry over to volleyball. Well, our Volleybelles were, anyway. The Sarzonian team fought back hard as well, but for this game they just got outplayed by our girls. Sarzonia managed to push us all the way in the second set, but after that the girls sealed the deal with six points to go. After that, the match against Graintfjall became an exercise on how quickly they could close it out, and as we saw, they can close out games pretty fast.

Well then now. Where does that leave us? As the third seed from Group B, and up against the second seed from Group A, none other than HUElavia. I mean, at this point you just gotta think that there must be some sort of higher power out there just laughing at the possibility of pitting us against the HUElavians yet again. We've already met them in football, in arena football, and now we're going up against them in volleyball. Oh, this just has the hallmarks of yet another early playoff exit for the Volleybelles, hasn't it? No matter where, no matter what sport, when it's in the playoffs, HUElavia always turn up against us. For once, just once, can we please turn up as well? I'm not asking too much now, am I? Please tell me now if I need to temper my own expectations yet again, or else it's going to drive me crazy.

'Well, ladies, here we go again,' Kim Yu-Jin looked around the locker room, as his women sat on their stalls in the locker room, gathering their thoughts before entering the field against Cassadaigua. 'Well, you know, our time has come up against the inevitable opponent.' She said, not adding much. While under normal circumstances she would not have minded the quarterfinals match, the fact it was against Cassadaigua, one of the most prolific nations in volleyball, and how competitive Group B was all tournament long didn't make her feel better any moment at the matchup. 'But if there's one thing we've seen from the Preliminary Stage, perhaps for the best, is that Cassadaigua's beatable, and that we'll have to get the job done.'

'Absolutely, coach. We know what we are capable of, and us, as two teams, have done this many times before in the competition. This year, two years ago, the olympics, and many more.' Alexanne Bayley came up with a confident reply. The women's team captain normally wasn't speaking much on the locker room, but her presence as the current captain of the women's team had meant that the dynamics were going to be different. 'We just have to get our maximum gear on.'

'And how are we going to target the Dagans?' Coach Kim asked, her assistant nodding along. Earlier in the day, she had run several drills and a couple of practice matches were held, but not one bit behind it was enough to convince her that the sixth-raked Quebecois women, even with their excellent form since the full-set loss to HUElavia on the third matchday, were ready to face the second-ranked Cassadagan women. 'We cannot give them space to use Driscoll, because that's almost certainly the way they will kick off the match. You give them a solid reception right on the first set, and that's going to be an easy point - Kristen Kruse has had tendency of doing that all tournament long.'

'And then we'll just have to serve right at (Hannah) Driscoll.' responded Natalia Horakcova. The twenty-four year old outside hitter, who was selected as the starter on the second Outside Hitter position over Alexanne Bayley, the tea captain, was known for being a strong server back in the Quebecois league. 'It's probably easier to target Klevankin, but the more effective option would be to serve at Driscoll, since that takes away their key offensive option, and no doubt the centres could guard Driscoll.'

'Spot on, Talia. That's exactly how we are going to start it off and hopefully continue the momentum.' Coach Kim nodded along as she continued to explain the gameplan once more. 'Keep watching out for Kruse, they don't have the height to the degrees of Mytanars as we've seen earlier, but the same problem we had with HUElavians can happen again if we don't have the right number of blockers. Probably two would be enough for wing, but the middle guys can be trickier. Serve will be do-or-die, and we'll let you guys know on what areas we need to target. It's a strong team, but by no means unbeatable.

'Keep the feet moving, it's going to be a slugfest and may go down to the last deuce of the fifth set. Let's get it ladies.'

No Slowing Down!

HUElavia blast past Abanhfleft en route to historic third consecutive FInal Four of the VWE!

HUElavia 3-1 Abanhfleft
(25-20, 25-11, 20-25, 25-9)
(The Gazebo, Mipo-Saint John, Quebec and Shingoryeo)

It's been eight years since HUElavia made their debut in the Volleyball World Expo, where volleyball (in particular the Beach variant) is popular in the nation, and a young team with some of the best female volleyball players were sent out. Eight years later, and the team is now considered Number 1 in the rankings, with high expectations for a deep run. Thus, making the Quarter-Finals is a requirement for the team, and the ladies did just that, finishing 2nd in Group A. Their opponents was a familiar team- Abanhfleft. A nation that HUElavia has faced off against in a variety of sports now were going face-to-face in volleyball. The match was set to play at The Gazebo (14,000) in Mipo-Saint John, where a strong showing of HUElavians were present in the arena. The ball tipped and the match was under way!

HUElavia went from the start, getting points left and right, showing their might and setting the tempo of the game. Puig and Fukuyama were the main stars for the team throughout the match, while off the bench, Cusipuma and Furtado were the main contributors for the team. Meanwhile, for Abanhfleft, Manabat and Bataller were the main stars, while Dayag and Vallejo were the solid players off the bench. HUElavia took the first set in a close affair, but the second set was more of the normal level of domination Las Amarillas/As Amarelas exert in their games. The third set saw Abanhfleft prevent a sweep, taking it 25-20. Furious from being prevented a clean sweep, the ladies went all-in and took shots and points left and right. At the end, A shot by Tao was enough to clinch the victory and the advance, winning 25-9. The ladies went onto the court to celebrated the victory and congratulate each other, while sharing consolations and handshakes with the players for Abanhfleft.

For the third consecutive edition and time in the VWE, HUElavia advances to the Semi-Finals of the tournament. Their next opponent will be against Kohnhead, who won Group B, and is coming off a 3-2 victory over Baker Park. The match will take place at The Gazebo (14,000), in Mipo-Saint John once again, where it is expected for a strong showing of HUElavians once again. The team is feeling satisfied with the results so far, and the team has met the minimum expectations of making the Final Four. The team continues to train well and study film, looking to make history for the HUElavian National Volleyball Team. The winner advances to the Final, with the loser going to the Third Place Match, depending on the results of the other Semi-Final between hosts Quebec & Shingoryeo and Mytanija. Here's to hoping that the semi-finals can be a passionate set of matches and best of luck to the Final Four.

FROM HISPINAS TO HORAKCOVA
MYTANIJA WIN TO SET-UP BLOCKBUSTER TIE WITH QUEBEC & SHINGORYEO

by Almedina Radovanovic

Strong first and fourth sets allowed Mytanija to progress from their quarter final match-up with Hispinas with a comprehensive 3-1 victory. A tight third set was the most competitive of the game. Hispinas rescued four set points towards the end but Mytanija stayed cool under pressure and eventually won out 29-27 in the set which seemingly broke the Hispinas team’s spirit. Mira Gushtanova seems on a one-woman mission to try and back-up all the Mytanar pundits that are heralding her as the best in the game, she broke the twenty five point mark here with 26 and might even have been slightly disappointed with that. The Hispinas opposite found things difficult but they did manage to make a couple of blocks which denied Gushtanova an even better performance.

Mytanija got off to a fantastic start with a 25-18 win in the first set. Alenka Kokot was particularly solid at opposite, denying the Hispinas wing spiker a few times at the net with help from captain Amalija Kolar. That pair have such a fantastic understanding from club level and it makes them really effective defensively. They were ably helped from Sara Gemac at times too and her presence is really invaluable, providing an extra pair of hands at the net on occasion but also being so versatile mid-play. She can be found helping libero Oana Asenova and setter Milka Marovic but then provides a scoring threat from deep with her athleticism when Mytanija are occasionally forced off-play.

Hispinas did cause more issues in the second set which they eventually won 25-20. This was when they had the most joy against Gushtanova, limiting her to five of her total in this set. Radina Ristic used it as an opportunity to give Gushtanova a break when it appeared as if she wasn’t having as much luck. Majda Omeragic substituted in and completed the set but Gushtanova returned for the third and Mytanija improved once again as they went on to win that mammoth set 29-27. It is telling that five points in the second set was viewed as a bit disappointing for Mira Gushtanova. She scored seven in each of the other three which isn’t an enormous amount extra but it is that consistency in scoring even when she isn’t necessarily playing at her best that makes her such a talent.

“We all know what Mira Gushtanova offers to our team,” Radina Ristic said rather matter-of-factly following the win. “She’s a pure scorer and if you can’t stop her from doing so you’re going to face problems. It’s fantastic that we have her with us and we hope she can continue the fantastic form she has been in for the remainder of the tournament. However far that will take us.” Mytanar supporters will hope that that is all the way to the final, of course, but the win over Rushmori rivals Hispinas sets up an extremely tough semi-final match with Quebec and Shingoryeo. The Quebecois team are playing on home courts as the hosts of the tournament and that will present its own difficulty to the Mytanar team. Nobody on the Mytanija squad is a stranger to playing in an intimidating atmosphere though and Ristic will surely believe that their experience in playing in the MOF Top League will prepare them for that.

“Playing at home always helps. I know that all too well from managing Litala ’93 domestically.” Ristic grinned. “But it shouldn’t intimidate us given how much experience all of these players have of playing at difficult venues in the Top League. Going to play at either of the Thessia clubs, Rauchnya or Gornaya-Mesnost as everyone on this team has at some point is going to be a similar level of partisan support to what we’re going to see against Quebec. We need to keep our cool and do what we know we can do in terms of a standard of play. If we can keep that high level I see no reason why we can’t reach another final.”

That is perhaps the most impressive thing about this team. They won the VWE last time around and could perhaps be forgiven for taking their foot off the gas. They absolutely have not done that. A strong group stage showing meant that they qualified in 2nd place from a tough Group B field. They tasted defeat twice against Kohnhead and Abanhfleft – strong teams in their own right – but they put those losses behind them to finish well. Hispinas was one of the more favourable draws in the first knockout round but Mytanija were professional during their 3-1 win. Quebec and Shingoryeo is one of the nations with a wider volleyball culture which is similar to Mytanija’s own, with attendances to games demonstrating the popularity of the sport. A match against them will be a big test for this group of players against the likes of Natalie Wesoloski-Okafor, Natalia Horakcova and Karina Benn Fernandez.

The semi-final stage of this tournament represents the four best teams in multiversal volleyball right now and few could argue that it isn’t an accurate reflection of that. Mytanija, Quebec and Shingoryeo, Kohnhead and HUElavia. It’s the top two from each group during the group stage and now we will see who can strike out and claim the world championship.

Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir on her way to Olympic Thessia

Sources have been indicating that both Olympic and Atletik Thessia have been extremely interested in bringing Græntfjaller starlet Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir to the MOF Top League after being enthused by her performances during the group stage of VWE 12. At 17 years of age and standing at over 2 metres tall she has plenty of runway still to improve and all the physical attributes necessary to go very far in this game. Those sources were proven entirely correct yesterday as Olympic Thessia have moved quickly to sign Wanjirsdóttir from Notschach in her homeland. Early indications are that Olympic have broken the Mytanar volleyball transfer record (set by Litala ’93 when they spent NSD 425,000 on Mira Gushtanova) in order to get Nyagũthiĩ’s signature with a figure of NSD 500,000 being bandied about.

Many will say spending that amount on somebody so young could represent an enormous risk, but Olympic seem very sure that it represents paying for a ready-made talent who can play for them for a very long time. Atletik will be disappointed that they couldn’t get there first given that the opposite position has been a bit of a problem area for them in recent years, but they will have to go into the season with Nihada Mugaic as their first choice option at the position unless they have other targets in mind. Some expect this move to open the floodgates for a greater number of international stars to move to Mytanija to compete in the Top League and Atletik may well have some of those players in mind as secondary options after they missed out on Nyagũthiĩ Wanjirsdóttir because she signed for Olympic Thessia. The two clubs are Eternal Derby rivals across every sport they play and this will surely only further heighten those tensions.

A Date with Destiny

HUElavia comes back and survives Kohnhead en route to historic final against Quebec and Shingoryeo!

Kohnhead 2-3 HUElavia
(25-21, 25-22, 21-25, 10-25, 15-17)
(The Gazebo, Mipo-Saint John, Quebec and Shingoryeo)

For the third time, and in consecutive fashion, in HUElavian Volleyball history, HUElavia was playing in the Semi-Finals of the Volleyball World Expo. Just eight years ago, this was unheard of for a group of women making their debut, but now in the present, it was a reality and expectation. For Las Amarillas/As Amarelas, this was the third time they were in this stage of the competition, and there was only one team ahead of them from reaching the final: Kohnhead. The Group B winners came off a 3-2 victory over Baker Park and were now looking to make their first ever Final in the VWE. In a sold-out Gazebo (14,000) in Mipo-Saint John, with a strong majority of HUElavians present in the arena. Once the anthems were played, the ball was tipped and the match was under way!

The match was one for the history books, one that HUElavians will remember fondly. Kohnhead was on the attack from the start, showing they had the strength and skills to go toe-to-toe with HUElavia. Callahan and Dunderhook were the main stars for the team, getting shots left and right, having the HUElavian ladies scrambling to stop the shots. Kohnhead took the first two sets after a tight battle, which had them feeling confident they can close off the match. On the HUElavian bench, Moreira was giving a passionate talk to her players to motivate them and to fight off the elimination and stage a comeback. Surely enough, that was the case. Rocha Domingues and Nguyen were the main stars for HUElavia in the comeback, getting shots left and right, while Cusipuma and Yakovna made significant contributions to the team throughout the sets. HUElavia took a tightly contested 3rd set, 25-21, and in the 4th set, HUElavia dominated the court, winning 25-10. Thus, the momentum shifted and favored Las Amarillas/As Amarelas, with the HUElavian crowd being loud and passionate in their support. The 5th and final set was a see-saw battle, with both teams taking shots left and right looking to take the victory. In the final play, Silverman took a shot that was blocked by Cabral de Ávila, only for Rocha Domingues to take the winning shot past Kirby and into the floor the ball went, with the match ending. The bench went onto the court, mobbing Rocha Domingues with her teammates, while the crowd erupted and cheered for the victory. Shortly after, the teams shook hand and gave their words of support to one another.

Thus, the tournament has winded down to the two Finalists: Quebec and Shingoryeo & HUElavia. Quebec and Shingoryeo also comes from a 5-set victory of 3-2 over Mytanija, but they nearly blew a 2-0 lead during their game. Fortunately for them, they won and now these two teams that met in the Group Stage will meet one last time. For both teams involved, this is a very important final with not only the Gold Medal and Title on the line, but one of historic significance. This significance involves the meetings these two nations have had in other sports, as well as Quebecois Football Legend Leonardo Conavacio being the manager of the HUElavian National Football Team. On top of that, both nations have a very friendly relationship between the governments and people with each other. Thus, it's two familiar friends meeting for a great final. The ladies are practicing well, training consistently, still coming with the motivation of their comeback victory, as well as studying film to determine how they can improve and play well, compared to the first game in the Group Stage. The fans are coming in droves, even though the HUElavians will be in the minority for the Final, they look to cheer on the team with joy and passion. The Final will be held at Yongma Arena (20,600), in Habpo, where it is expected to be sold out. Regardless of what happens, here's to hoping it can be a passionate and fun final, one that can be remembered for years to come. May the best team win.
