I wouldn't be surprised. That tends to be how our government operates.

Global warming isn't actually a thing as far as I understand. Just some climate change and its not a huge deal.

Ironically, one of the things environmental health scientists are worried about is the increasing incidence of CO2 poisoning as emissions continue to pour it into the atmosphere. Around about 1000 ppm people experience headaches, drowsiness and sometimes nausea. It's already difficult to keep CO2 concentrations in crowded areas at a healthy level - it takes 30 minutes or so for a lecture theatre full of people to climb above that threshold. We're on track to hit 685 ppm by 2050, and every year it becomes more and more difficult to keep working conditions in places like office buildings healthy to be in for an extended period. Plus god knows what chronic CO2 poisoning does to peoples' brains on the long term beyond the initial effects.

Global warming causes climate change, and it is a huge fucking deal. Some entire countries (in the first world and the third world) are at risk of going the way of Atlantis. Those countries which will have land left will have some of their biggest population centers also go under the sea. This will cause a global refugee crisis. On top of this, many areas (especially those which do not become submerged) will get less consistent rainfall, and the occasions when they do will see excessive rainfall, causing flash flooding. This will cause agricultural instabilities, famines, and outright wars over water and food. To say nothing of the many species that will go extinct (which itself says nothing of the many species that have already and currently are going extinct).

Rather than causes, I would say that global warming is a type of climate change, in this case one caused by human activity.

I'm surprised people think climate change is actually a huge deal. I was taught in school that global warming isn't a thing, but climate change is. A meteorologist who one time came to my school( to talk about the profession of meteorology or something like that) also said that climate change will just be some changes in weather patterns and its not some apocalypse.

Ignoring the myriad of other effects in the future, we are already at a point where most of the minor Pacific island states are going underwater. That's 2.3 million people that will have to move away from their ancestral homelands in the coming decades.

Most people don't mod gas vehicles to be obnoxiously loud to compensate for something. Most who do do it for other enthusiasts, they like how it sounds, it makes it feel like your going faster when you really are. Also making a vehicle quietermand burn clean is many times a negative on fuel efficiency and also power.

Maybe, but the a meteorologist who didn't even live near the area and has no ties with school system besides talking about meteorology, why meteorology is cool, and why the meteorologist became a meteorologist. The meteorologist didn't even need to talk about climate change. It just happened to get brought up when talking about weather and what it was. So the meteorologist has no actual motivations. I could see the school doing that though.

Okay, so I was just scrolling through (also first time poster in these types of threads.) How exactly did you de - Trumpify Trump supporters?

Typically by having casual chats, getting to know them and their circumstances. Ultimately you have to hammer down three things:
  • Trumpian class warfare
  • Trumpian hypocrisy
  • Trumpian status quo obfuscation
Because at the end of the day, most Trump supporters are not rich, or financially stable. They're in the big prole boat, like the rest of us. Where they differ is on cultural and social issues. As someone who once was, to put it mildly, far-right on such issues, I find myself desensitized to some of the more acerbic talking points Trump supporters tend to parrot. I am able to tolerate it because I wish to show them directly that Trump conned them. From there, I can use some common-ground talking points (most Trump supporters tend to be pro-gun. I'm a pro-gun leftist) to further position myself as someone who can help them towards an alternative socioeconomic worldview.

Also, welcome to NSG!
