INTRODUCTION

+ The Great War has devastated Europe. Old precedents, alliances, and whole empires are in shambles. A New Order is taking hold across the globe, and it will be up to you to shape it. Take the threshold of a nation, just beginning the interwar period and lead yourself to domination. Will you fight for your own survival? Or will you fight for the oppressed? Will you embrace the radicalism and extremism that now dominates Europe and Asia? Or will you fight to preserve the old status quo. The choice is yours. Lead to tyranny, or to utopia. In the end, however, we're all trying to make the grasses destroyed by war green once again. This is WTGGG. +

THE LORE
+ The sparks of war had been hashing since the last major war in Europe, and by 1910 they were ready to boil over. The once fledgling Ottoman Empire, conquerors of Constantinople, and the Empire who defeated the Romans, were now in a sharp decline. Dealing with heavy dissatisfaction both externally and internally, Balkan tensions are exploding into all-out war. In France, a bitter opposition to the government headed by radical socialists is taking shape. In Germany, nationalism and expansionism runs rampant. In Russia, the flames of revolution are sparking. In Austria, the ethnic minorities are being pushed to the breaking point. Between now and the outbreak of war in 1914, major events such as the Agadir Crisis will further inflame tensions. +

**ALL IRL HISTORY IS THE SAME**
**NO EVENTS CAN BE ALTERED THAT EFFECT BORDERS OR WORLDWIDE EVENTS**

+ The war is over, and Europe is left in shambles. Empires have fallen, and new hegemonies have risen. In WTGGG, guide the nation of your choice to greatness - or doom it forevermore. +

PLEASE READ

Heyo! Me here. If you're new to RP, here's a coupla tips that ought to help you through this adventure. This is required unless I say otherwise.

How to RP

Well, the title is pretty straightforward. Alright, let's see. Hmmmm.....

Perfect!

Okay. You're a young woman, taking a stroll along your neighborhood street when suddenly, a man pops up behind you! Oh no! He has a gun! Well, most newcomers to RP would usually get stuck on the first sentence. So let's get to the tips.

One of the most frustrating things about RP is how time-consuming it is. Usually, P2TM rps require at least a paragraph or two to properly Rp, and in the OP it usually says "no one-liners". A one-liner would be something like this:

"I hit the man in the face, take his gun, and shoot him dead and then I walk home."

No. Just no. You don't want to do this. In order to right a detailed, nicely-written RP post, it takes a while. Getting a cramp in your hand from typing? Good. Hard work does that. Sure, it might take an hour, but that's the beauty of RP. Learn some patience, and you'll be good to go.

Write out the details you usually wouldn't care about. Did your character accidentally bite their tongue while chewing gum? Write it! Do your shoes have red stripes on them? Awesome! When RPing, you have to incorporate details. Take this bit for example.

"I woke up and got out of bed. I walked into the kitchen and made some scrambled eggs. I ate them. Then I took a shower. Then I got dressed. Then I went outisde, got in my car, and went to work."

Not very much substance, right? Take this improved version.

"I woke up, a bit groggy from last night's party. But it was Monday, so I had to go to work. I didn't bother making my bed, and I strolled into the kitchen without a care in the world. What sounds good for breakfast? I thought. MmMmMmM. Scrambled eggs... I got a pan, and I cracked two eggs onto it. The sweet aroma of the sizzling eggs filled the small house. Ah, what a wonderful time to be alive. Once the eggs were finished, I sat down and ate them. Slowly. Ever so slowly. They were delicious! I quickly washed up the plate and fork, and then went into the bathroom. I undressed myself from my pajamas, and hopped into the shower. Baaah! Hot water! I warmed up to it after a while, and it was pretty relaxing. When I was done, I got out. I searched through my closet, and found a nice brown polo shirt to put on. I put on some khakis, and was ready to go! I went out in the hall and put on some Timberlands. Then, I went outside and got into my brand new, jet-black Land Rover. I drove to work, happy with my morning."

See? Much, much better. Would you rather have a plain, bland sentence, or a richly-detailed paragraph? I'd choose the latter, but I dunno about you.

Okay, now you should know the basics. This tab will be a list of links you could go to if you'd like to learn more! And remember, you can always contact me via TG.

THE RULES

[-] 1. No metagaming, godmodding, and the like. If you've participated in RPs before, you know what we're talking about. Newbies, go here or here

[-] 2. OP's and Co-OP's word is final. You can argue, and if determined an OP is overreaching I'll step in. Obey or you get the ban hammah!

[-] 3. Be realistic. No, you can't have star lasers. But at the same time, don't underestimate anything.

[-] 4. Your posts may be as long as you'd like, as long as they're more than a paragraph or so.

[-] 5. No magic, no fairies, none of it. Remember what I said about being realistic? Keep that in mind. Always.

[-] 6. Respect your fellow players. If you have a problem with someone, keep it civil and don't let it spill over ICly.

[-] 7. NO IMAGINARY COUNTRIES. Do at least some research to find a nation to play. Slight alterations to IRL timeline are possible.

Times Square, New York City
December 31, 1918 | 11:57 PM

[+] Clap...Clap...Clap..., the sound of deafening applause emulated across the square. The cold New Year's air whistled and bit at your cheeks. Returning soldiers could be seen kissing spouses, hugging loved ones, and celebrating the end of the war. Thousands of people converged in Times Square at this moment, awaiting President Wilson. More importantly, however, they are awaiting midnight. The clock slowly ticked by.

Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

Midnight finally struck, and shouts of celebrations erupted, with military caps and confetti being tossed around like candy. Just then, President Wilson strode onstage, accompanied by a brass band that churned up "Hail Columbia" and "Dixie". The crowds cheered, and as they calmed, President Wilson began speaking.

"My friends, countrymen, and to all the brave men who have defended our nation so valiantly, to this evening is a great triumph over the sanctities of evil, the whirlwinds of death and great terror, and under this triumph we will prosper, unleashing a great era for our nation. We mourn for those who have been lost, and we look forward to these great truths and precedents to come. The great horrors and tragedies of this war are subsided, and our will remains unbroken. The mothers who've lost their sons in the minefields of France, the fathers who've lost their companions, the entire nation aches and confides with you. We must move on to a brighter future, henceforth presiding over a remarkable era of prosperity. For the men we have lost are not lost forevermore, but only until the gates of heaven'r opened, and all the children of God's almighty kingdom are broughten to him." Wilson concluded, a remarkably short tangent. Up next, a revolving round of performers came onstage, and at the end of the evening, the brass band emerged once again and struck up a few hymns, before ending with "Clarinet Marmalade".

White House Briefing Room
January 2, 1919 | 9:12 PM

**OOC NOTE, TREATY OF VERSAILLES HAS NOT BEEN SIGNED YET

[+] President Wilson and the Joint Chiefs of Staff are sitting in the Briefing Room, overlooking several maps, specifically of Europe. They were discussing what Wilson would formally propose in the upcoming peace talks.

The Joint Chiefs suggested that they go along with Lloyd George of Britain's plan, to strike a counterbalance against France's harsh requests. Wilson, however, had a different idea.

He propose a new league, a league of nations, to sort out diplomatic problems to prevent another war and to stabilize Europe, whilst guiding American democracy and ideals to the forefront. He called it, fittingly, the League of Nations. Back to the maps, he proposed the following to the Joint Chiefs;

1. Alsace Lorraine is to be given to France
2. Eupen-Malmedy is to be given to Belgium
3. The Saarland is to be put under League of Nations supervision
4. Schleswig is to be given to Denmark
5. Galicia is to be given to Poland
6. Danzig is to be given to Poland
7. Memel is to be given to Lithuania
8. A democratic government is to be set up in Germany, with a nationwide referendum on whether to keep the Kaiser as a head of state, with nothing more than ceremonial powers
9. The newly formed German Republic is to pay $32 billion deustschmarks, or $20 billion USD to be split between France, the United Kingdom, and the United States
10. If Germany cannot pay reparations, then liquidation of German assets will occur and an occupation of the Rhineland by France is permitted.
11. The League of Nations will formally provide direct military support to Russia against the Bolsheviks
12. The United States will sieze control of German colonies in Papua and some Polynesian islands
13. Japan will sieze control of the remaining German islands in the Pacific
14. Britain will sieze control of all German colonies in Africa

The Joint Chiefs reject this proposal by Wilson, as it would be seen as too harsh against Germany.

Vaduz Castle, Vaduz, Liechtenstein
January, 1919

Considering that World War I is coming to a close and following Christmas and New Year's Day celebrations, Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein has been planning something special in terms of diplomacy. He was thinking about visiting China to meet up with President Sun Yat-sen while also staying over there for a week as a trip. Johann II wants to explore the outside world, having secluded to live in the palace for so long since birth. It's a great opportunity for him to learn more about a nation's culture. However, he only knew a little about China and its culture, especially from reading books but haven't visited one before to get the full experience. If he leaves for China, his brother, Franz I, will serve as his regent until his eventual return.

Other plans regarding his visit to China would be getting involved in humanitarian work and receiving an item as a gift upon his return if Sun Yat-sen were to do so. During humanitarian work, Johann II will provide charity to the poor, support failing schools, and providing charity to Buddhist monasteries. His goal is to become a philanthropist and to understand the meaning of life through humane means. Unlike China's economic status, Liechtenstein has better access to luxury than theirs, making it evident because it's a European country. Johann II wrote a letter to Sun Yat-sen in the form of an invitation and hoped to let him along into his nation in return if it were to be successful. By introducing German (Liechtensteiner) culture to Sun Yat-sen, Johann II wanted him to be introduced to a foreign culture.

January 2, 1919

From: Prince Johann II of Liechtenstein
To: President Sun Yat-sen

Mr. Sun Yat-sen, I proudly invited you to Vaduz Castle to have ourselves a friendly discussion from there and also serve as a diplomatic visit. Although Vaduz Castle hasn't been opened to the public to see and will never be, you have been invited by me because it's a private matter, so you'll be the only one to enter unless you also have others coming with you. I've always wanted to visit China one day, and it'll be an honor if I introduce you to European culture or, in other words, German culture for you to immerse yourself in. My dream is to explore the outside world and discover the true meaning of human suffering rather than doing absolutely nothing.

Since the end of the Great War, my stance on achieving neutrality have been successful, and I want to set an example of how important it is to help a struggling person, whether it'll be a child, a man, and a woman as so many lives were lost over something pointless. However, I don't want to go into too much detail, so more will be explained if you accept the invitation. So are you willing to accept my invitation, friend?

As the rest of the world celebrates the end of The Great War, soldiers across the world arrive home to their families, friends, and relatives. Meanwhile, in Russia, the war is still burning with a deadly heat. There is no peace in these lands. There is no quiet. There is no celebrations. The sounds of gunshots and artillery ring out from the frontline, as if nothing happened. The Tsar is dead. Kelensky is dead. Soldiers are dead. Civilians are dead. Yet the war churns on, from Ukraine to Siberia, from Latvia to Arkhangelsk. The White Army is experienced, skilled, and well-equipped, but have had little motivation since the Tsar's execution in July 1918.

As the new year dawns upon the rest of the world, and becomes only a little more than a week away from beginning on the Julian Calendar, which is commonly used in Russia, the White Army holds the upper hand in the Russian Civil War. However, they face many problems. A Soviet government in Turkestan threatens the front, while their advance begin to slow down. It is becoming clear just how ineffective of a leader Alexander Kolchak is, and the Russian Provisional Government, which has become a rump state following Kolchak's coup d'etat, wants him gone. Foreign forces help in the fight against the Communists, but more assistance will be needed to end the Bolshevik threat.

Ottawa, The Dominion of Canada
January 1, 1919
Image

It was a chilly day in Ottawa but that wouldn't prevent the many who turned up to see their fathers, brothers, sons, and husbands return home. Thousands gathered outside of the Ottawa Train Station to await the engine that carried another batch of hardened and in many cases troubled soldiers from what had been the battlefields of Europe. For the first time in months and years these soldiers who had fought so valiantly for their country and for the crown, would return home and see their beloved again. There were heartfelt moments outside of that station of children chasing their dearly missed fathers, tearful parents at last hugging their sons, and of women at long last greeting their partners. All the while the Prime Minister lurked in the background talking to soldiers and their families, and thanking them for their heroic efforts. After visiting soldiers in Europe on so many occasions it had become something had enjoyed, listening to soldiers and their stories. He almost felt as if he owed something to them after what they did, they almost felt like family to him after all these years in power and in the war. After a while of meeting and greeting he gave some short remarks to a small crowd of soldiers and their families that had began to assemble around him.

"It would not do you and your actions justice to simply thank you, but I'm not sure if I have much else to give. To all of you, to all of you who gave your best, who put your lives on the line in service of our country, of the Empire, and of the world we thank you. Through the terrors of war you persisted, when you were called on the serve you gave your service, when the times were you gave it your all, and for we all thank you. To the parents that raised these brave men, and who gave them in service of the crown, and in so many cases lost them, your children are in heaven now, with almighty god as angels. For all of you that have given in service of the crown, for this dominion that we call Canada, my government and I will be here for you. Your service and sacrifice have not been in vain, we have defeated the enemy, and we have cemented our legacy, our country, a country that will be known as Canada."

Afterwards Borden returned to his office on the East Block on Parliament Hill where his Secretary filled him in on some of the issues of the day.

"Well you've got a letter from Sir Arthur Currie, a telegram from the American President, there are calls for us to revise the system in which our soldiers return, they want them to return in units as opposed to our current system of first over first back. Others are calling for more supports for veterans, the anger of the soldiers currently in Europe look like they are going to burst, not to mention the dock workers, and sailors, and policemen in charge of the process. There's also the Peace Conference that's coming up, in Paris I think, there are competing views of how the borders of Europe should be drawn. Now in Parliament there are signs that the Unionist Party might fall apart, and there are already some that are drawing up legislation to end the income tax. I think that's all for now, though I'll inform you if anything arises."

Borden simply nodded as his secretary took his leave, there were undoubtedly a lot of pressing issues that he had to face. He decided that he would first read the letter from Sir Arthur Currie, the Corps commander of the Canadian Army. He wrote to the Prime Minister arguing that soldiers should be sent home by their unit, he argued that it would make the process more orderly and keep the soldiers disciplined. He also argued that it would also be more efficient as soldiers currently left in small groups and from different regiments, and he argued that in the current system the morale of the waiting soldiers went down when they saw others from their regiment return home. Borden wrote back saying that he believed that length of service should be rewarded and that he still favoured the current system, but that he would bring up Currie's proposal to his cabinet. The transfer of troops from the battlefields of Europe back home to Canada would be the greatest logistical feat in the history of an autonomous Canada, it would be a slow process with trans-Atlantic ships only being able to carry around 50,000 soldiers a month, and Canadian railways only being able to carry half that. Meaning that many soldiers would have to stay on the coast away from there families for a few weeks, and others having to stay in Europe for months. Most of the Canadian soldiers though had been transferred from continental Europe to England where they would stay until they could make the trip back home. But the soldiers were getting unruly abroad, not wanting to wait to see their loved ones again, and the workers part of this process were frustrated as well, and there were fears that this whole process may come to halt for one reason or another.

But those fears were not something that Borden thought about as he reviewed letters calling on him to provide more supports for soldiers returning home. There had been programs and a school called Khaki University set up abroad for Canadian soldiers that were mostly funded by charitable organizations. They aimed to help soldiers and teach them skills and help them return to civilian life. There were now calls for the government to fund those kinds of programs and do their part to help the soldiers and had so valiantly served their country. It would certainly be hard for these soldiers to adjust, after what they had seen and had been through, with the injuries that had received in the field of combat, supports were definitely needed, but Borden decided that would be something he would leave for his cabinet meeting.

Moscow, January 1st, 1919

Image

It was a bitterly cold winter. Steam and smoke rose from chimneys, and the streets were moderately busy as expected in a city the size of Moscow. The shrill sound of whistles contrasted with the tolling of bells from clock towers, churches weren't allowed to use their bells except on special holidays. And in the halls of the Kremlin, there was chatter as war strategies were planned out. Present was a motley collection of people ranging from Lenin and Trotsky to old Tsarist officers like Vasili Altfater (the Commander-In-Chief of the Red Fleet) and Dimitry Bagration (a Georgian royal and formerly a general in the Tsar's army). Perhaps this meeting's ambiance was disrupted by the lack of Aleksei Brusilov (of Brusilov's Offensive fame, who was recovering because of a shrapnel injury to the foot).

As perhaps expected, Lenin was the first to speak.

"Gentlemen, comrades. We have a new year on our hands, which presents new opportunities for the Red Army. In the dying days of the previous year, we discussed strategies to try and bring our enemies to the table of negotiation. I do not expect the war to end this year, or possibly even the next. But I expect the Red Army and the people of Russia to triumph in their struggle against foreign aggression."

Trotsky then spoke, detailing plans he had made in conjunction with Frunze.

"It is in our best interests to play to your strengths. The foreign interventionists are a complicated issue and not a significant threat in the north. We must focus our efforts on seizing the Baltic lands of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as the Ukraine and Belarus. Aside from rich agricultural lands, industrial centers, and manpower, both necessary for the war effort can be found there. Gentlemen, comrades, what our focus shall be on is the crushing of resistance to the revolution and the supporters of foreign interventionists in these lands. I believe that if our focus is on taking these lands, we will gain a significant upper hand."

"Correct," Frunze interjected, clearly beginning an explanation of his own. "Our focus in the east should be securing the primary rail links to Central Asia, as well as the Trans-Siberian railways. That will allow us to conduct operations with significant ease in Siberia and ensure our victory in Central Asia. That would sever White forces in the east into thirds, allowing us to use encirclement tactics and the large flat steppe and deserts to our advantage. Armored units and cavalry can be used to great effect on these terrains, and one can only assume they will strike fear into our enemies."

"Excelent theories, but practically speaking, we must look in the more minute picture." Said Vasiliy Altfater. "Riga is near our front lines and is a coastal city. The same can be said for Reval (Tallinn). Theoretically, we could use our battleships and cruisers to shell the cities while the Red Army assaults by land. The Estonians and Latvians do not possess such naval firepower, and their aircraft will likely be mauled by our aircraft. It is expected."

"Confidence, overconfidence. We must be pessimistic to be optimistic. Yes, we have numerical superiority, but we lack allies on all fronts, which leaves us fighting nigh the whole world. Caution is the best tool we have, our brains are what we can rely on. Our tactics must be subtle and our losses must be sparing, because while troops can be replaced, aircraft cannot be." Said Trotsky firmly.

"Fine ideas indeed," Lenin remarked, his voice clearly signifying a change in the topic being discussed. "Now, we must talk about the status regarding our food supplies, the farms, and our industry."

"Critical cogs in the machine of victory," Frunze added on, taking a break from his pipe.

"Yes, yes, indeed. It is clear that without significant allies at home or abroad, we will not be able to sustain ourselves throughout this conflict. Permanently, as this war rages, we teeter on the brink of famine. Starvation is not ideal under the best of circumstances and utterly catastrophic for morale during a time of war. Already we have halted our collectivization efforts to try and focus on production efficiency and to ensure the constant supply of food, but even then, we still combat starvation. Back in the Tsarist times, Russia had the option of purchasing food from abroad, but now we have trouble sending representatives abroad. It is clear to me, as it should be to all of you, that we require allies in our struggle." Lenin explained as everyone intently listened. "Whether these allies see eye to eye with us ideologically is irrelevant as long as they are willing to aid our cause. Nor do I care if these allies are nations or organizations. As long as we gain friends abroad, we will have lifelines to things we sorely need, like foreign capital, food, and surplus weapons."

"Indeed so." Said Joseph Stalin, putting his pipe down, and his expression changing from pensive to expressive. "We know China is a nation whose sympathies are socialist-leaning, and we have made peace with Finland over their lands. What we now must do is open channels of communication with the Entente. As much as I despise them for their interventionism, perhaps we can persuade them to leave, or even begin to support us. Without the Entente, the White Army will collapse rapidly. But, I do not see such ideal scenarios playing out. The most I can expect is the Entente giving us their tacit support against German troops in the Baltic while maintaining the occupation of Russian lands."

"Comrade Stalin, that is, unfortunately, the case." Spoke up, Grigory Zinoviev. "We are pariahs in this world, and we must overcome that. If I may propose, we send our own diplomatic troops out in the manner Peter the Great did. We will come on the terms of goodwill, and visit friendly nations and organizations to speak of our end goals as well as to garner support for our noble and righteous cause."

"There is an alternative after all. Instead of pushing for the rest of the world to recognize us through traditional diplomatic channels, we simply make them have to recognize us. After all, do the Whites not venerate the former Tsar as their leader? Isn't that what the upstart Kolchak desires; a restored Russian Empire?" Trotsky said as Stalin proceeded to cut him off before another sentence could be uttered.

"I cannot speak with certainty, Lev. But I am of the mind that Nicholas is little loved by almost everyone save for the nobility. Short of undoing the progress, we have made, we will not involve that pathetic ex-monarch in this. He remains in retirement where he is, that is the end of that." Stalin said with a calm, but forceful tone of voice.

"If I may continue, Joseph, my point is that we have the greatest negotiating tools of any side in this war, the lynchpin to the credibility of the Whites. Would it not be prudent to use that tool? I think so. We, yes we comrades are dancing around what could be our salvation, albeit from an old foe. Consider it---" Trotsky said as this time it was Bargation who cut him off.

"That tangent aside, Leon. Let us return to actual war planning. Specifically, what to do about the breakaway nations." Bagration said.

"Leave them for last, they're most in the Caucasus," Lenin said, dismissive of the tangent.

"So it is settled then. We focus on securing our fronts." Bagration said in a low tone of voice.

Zvenjniekciems, Latvia, January 2nd, 1919

The Baltic Sea was frozen, and the winter iced up. Riga was less than 50km away, and the war situation was advantageous on the front, for the moment. In a house in the center of the town was a group of officers talking with the Soviet-backed government of the Latvian SSR. Heading the meeting was Pēteris Stučka, the leader of the Latvian SSR. And acting as a counterbalance as well as a representative of Soviet backing and goodwill was Sergey Kamenev.

"Comrades, we are practically at the gates of Riga. It is an exciting moment for all the workers of Latvia, the day the Latvian capital is freed from foreign interventionists and warmongerers. We are, as the crow flies, about 45 kilometers from the center of Riga, and our front lines are merely 30 kilometers from the city center. I predict that Riga is to fall soon, their position is untenable, and our forces are closing in. There is one request I have for when Riga falls, and that is that the Latvian units enter first, as a matter of national pride." Stučka said in an excited, yet also composed tone of voice.

"That can be done, Comrade." Sighed Kamenev, rolling his eyes.

"Stučka, you know very well that pro-revolutionary sentiment is not exactly at its highest in the Baltics. I suggest doing nothing radical until the war is finished. Tell people to go on with their lives, tell them that their peace and wellbeing are ensured by the Soviets. But do not start collectivizing things unless the workers expressly demand so. The last thing we need to is to lose a freshly captured city." Warned Jukums Vācietis, the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army and one of the highest-ranking non-Bolsheviks in the RSFSR's government.

"Vācietis, I understand your concern. Trust me when I say that the situation will remain in control. I need you to prove to the Latvian populace that they are accepted in the Soviet movement, that one of their own is in the highest echelons of power. And I also need you to ensure the military does not ruin public calm and peace." Stučka told his compatriot, emphasizing the need for unity and peace.

The discussions continued late into the night and eventually came to an end in the wee hours of the morning of January 3rd. Topics from state assets to the future of the Soviet movement to just about anything else that entered the minds of those present in the room were vividly discussed. Eventually, everyone retired to their quarters, with some daring officers even driving "nationalized" cars on the icy surface of the frozen surface of the Baltic for the fun of it. There were few pleasures in the time of war, and this was one of them.

Riga, Latvia, January 3rd, 1919

Awakening the citizens of Riga in the dark of the winter morning was the thunder of artillery shells and gunfire. Soviet troops readied themselves, armed mostly with rifles and occasionally machine guns. In the bitter cold of winter, they took extra care to prevent their weapons from freezing up. Bullets were loaded, and when the order to advance was given, the troops did as told, going towards the enemy lines as quickly as they were able to. The battle for Riga had begun.

Moscow, January 3rd, 1919

"In the Baltics, Soviet troops are at the gates of Riga, in Belarus and Ukraine, our troops have re-entered those lands with moderately stiff resistance thus far, and in Central Asia, bloody clashes have begun as armored trains have started to recapture the key rail links to Verny (Almaty). Thus far, successes." An aide told Lenin, who merely rolled his eyes.

"Don't trust the reports too greatly. We take two steps forward, and end up taking one back." Lenin stated.

"Comrade?" Asked the aide.

"Pen and paper please, comrade." Said Lenin as the aide did as told.

"Thank you," Lenin replied as he began to write away on the papers he had received.

To: The Entente Interventionist Nations (The US, UK, and France)
From: Vladimir Ilyich Lenin on behalf of the Peoples of Russia

I address your honorable nations today regarding your intervention in the Russian Civil War, and specifically your opposition to the will of the workers, and your inadvertent support for Germany in doing so. In the year of 1917, the government of Russia was overthrown because of its corruption and incompetence and the continued bloodshed Russia was enduring at the hands of incompetent politicians. We the Soviets came to power on the promise to try and end the bloodshed, the suffering the nation was enduring. And we quite nearly did, in fact, we would have had it not been for the emergence of reactionary forces opposed to the will of the Russian people and thirsty for the blood of innocents.

If it had not been for foreign intervention, it is likely these reactionary elements would have been successfully brought down, and the peoples and Russia would have been able to breathe a collective sigh of relief without the fear of dying of the battlefield or starving to death because of food shortages. Alas, your intervention in this conflict was caused untold suffering and bloodshed. It is no secret that your fear the iron will of the workers because it would spell the end for the rich businessman who profits off the work of mistreated laborers, it would spell the end of your corrupt and bourgeoisie political systems which are fueled by the exploitation of the common man.

The reason I am addressing you is inherently simple, I cordially ask of you to cease interfering in Russian politics and to cease your support of the White movement. You can keep your oppressive and reactionary ideologies in your nations, but do not export them to Russia and force them upon a people tired of being oppressed by tyrannical and corrupt monarchs as well as corrupt and incompetent politicians. If you do not follow these simple demands, there will be no extreme retaliation. But, you will only galvanize the will of the Russian Peoples to defeat their enemies and to establish the will of the people. The Whites do not speak for the people, they are formed of rich oligarchs and monarchists, we the Soviets do speak for the people because we are the working people, the average man.

On the behalf of the greater interests of the American people, our government, and for the sake of all that is free and libertious in this world, I am afraid I cannot accept your demands. It is inherently clear that your cause for Bloshevism and Commune-style governance will not only damage the Russian state, but implore it to pursue further extremism. Your Bolshevism will not lead to a free, open and democratic system. It will only lead to further tyranny and suppression of the Russian people. As a representative for the greater good of America and the nations of this Earth that believe in freedom, justice, and liberty, I refuse.

The Imperial Russian forces have not only fought valiantly, but they have fought for that which they hold dear; the values of institutions and the status quo. I deeply advise to you, Mr. Lenin, that you cease your ridiculous demands and focus on doing what is right for Russia.

Alexander Kolchak's Office, Omsk, White Russia

Five men in salvaged "Tommy" helmets gather outside the a building rumored to be the workplace of Alexander Kolchak. They are dressed in old shock trooper gear, from before the Civil War.

"[Translated] Nikolavich, Kowalski, you take the front door."

"[Translated] Yes sir. Kowalski, on me. Let's take down this fucking dictator"

"[Translated] Vladimirovich, Leninski, take the back exit, if he tries to run, get him."

"[Translated] Vladimirovich, come. You take the left side, I'll take the right"

"[Translated]"I will be near the driveway, on the side of the building. If there are any reinforcements, accomplish your mission before fleeing. I'll try to assist you men in getting past the guards. Go in on my signal"

One of the men walks to the side of the building. A flare shoots up into the sky, distracting the guards. Within seconds, the door to the building opens. One of the men sneak up behind a guard, and slit the man's throat. The other guards are still focused in the direction of the flare.

Two guards leave through the back door to investigate the flare. Vladimirovich and Leninski both ambush them from behind, putting them in sleeper holds. There are only 3 guards left, all on the second floor.

"[Translated] Shit! All three in one place. How do we deal with them?"

"[Translated] You think you can hit one of them with a throwing knife?"

After the brutal murder of Alexander Kolchak, the provisional government, formerly a rump government after the Coup D'etat, is forced to elect a new leader. They select Alexander Kerensky as the new prime minister, after he appears in front of parliament, surprising many who had assumed him to be dead following the Russian Revolution. He appoints promising general Pyotr Wrangel as his Minister of War. Along with this, the Provisional Government installs Kirill Nikolavich as the Tsar in a constitutional monarch position due to his cousin’s capture, to appease the Tsarist faction. With the end of the short-lived Kolchak regime, it appears White Russia has finally stabilized on the governmental front.

Hello. You may not have heard the news yet. But I am the new, democratically elected Prime Minister of Russia. After my predecessors untimely death, the Provisional Governement's parliament elected me Prime Minister. I understand that, before my predecessors death, you and him agreed for him to meet with one of your ambassadors to discuss aiding our cause. I would still like to participate in this deal; if you are interested, of course.

Nanjing, January 1st, 1919

For the people of China, today was a day of celebration as both the New Year and the establishment of the Republic of China both fell on this day. However, for President, and the Legislative Yuan, today was becoming more and more of a headache. The provincial "governors" or more accurately, the warlords that ruled much of Manchuria outside of the key railways, were continuing to make a nuisance of themselves. Dr. Sun and the KMT have ignored them for a better half of a decade due to their status as a buffer against the Japanese, and because they never directly challenged the authority of the Central Government, until now.

General Yan Xishan, the military governor of Shaanxi, a Sun loyalist voiced his complaints towards the Fengtian warlords.

"Gentlemen it is preposterous that the Fengtian can order US, the legitimate government of China, around! I do not mind if they do not send taxes to the central government, nor do I mind if they criticize Dr. Sun, but the moment they start disregarding the laws of the Republic and challenge our authority, then I do mind! If the other provincial governors in the north know of this incident, then we could be facing another civil war! We must begin to reform the government immediately!"

His statement was popular among most of the Legalistive Yuan as most of them were part of the KMT, however, there still was a significant opposition towards his statement, especially the old guard of the KMT and members of the progressive party. Dr. Sun, staying quiet until now, rose to the podium to speak.

"What General Yan had said is correct. We must act decisively to unite China. If the Fengtian Clique and their supporters decide to act up, then who is to say that future governors won't do the same? To combat this, I propose we send the 2nd Army Group into Manchuria to reinforce the first Army Group and to counter the White Russians at our doorsteps. From now on, the payment and recruitment of all soldiers will be burdened by the Central government, and political commissars are to be placed within provincial units immediately." Dr. Sun would continue to speak for another hour before someone else would come up to speak.

By 10 p.m, the Legislative Yuan had passed Dr. Sun's proposed bill, with the 1st and 2nd Army Groups heading out for Manchuria immediately. Another bill would be passed allowing for the increase of the size of the Chinese military to 2 million. By the 7th of January, both of the Army groups had made it to Manchuria, with the 2nd Army Group making plans to defend and attack White Russia.

Nanjing Daily
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen criticizes America!

Today president Sun Yat-Sen has criticized the American government and various western powers for their hypocrisy and actions in the Russian Civil War. According to Dr. Sun, "The actions shown by the Americans today are shameful! Their president is nothing but a hypocrite! Was he not the one that called for self-determination for the people of the world? Why is it now that he is trying to take away that same right from the people of Russia? Do they not deserve the same right of self-determination as the Serbians, or the Polish, or the Ukrainians? The people of Russia have spoken and they do not want the Whites in charge of their nation, and if the president wants to redeem himself, then he must pull out of Russia immediately!

Comrades, I bid you a warm greeting from the people of China. I am writing to you today because I wish to discuss the future between our two nations and people. Unlike the westerners, I and the people of China understand the struggle that you are undergoing. Just like you, our people have suffered a corrupt and incompetent monarchy, which treated the working class like scum. During the Railroad Protection Movement, the Qing instead of listening to the people decided to send in troops to quash the protesters, just like how the White Russians and western powers are attempting to do the same to you. And just like you, we too overthrew the Qing monarchs and their foreign masters, regaining China for the common people.

Therefore the Republic of China, however, wishes to support you in your indever to free the people of Russia from the monarchists and capitalists. We already have units on the Manchurian border ready to strike against the White Russians and to help you regain control of western Russia. However, we will not be able to help you against the Entente just yet as the Chinese military does not yet have the strength in the Northeast to fight both the Whites and Allied forces.

I would also like to discuss the purchase of any Borodino-class battlecruisers that you have to help strengthen the fleet of the Republic of China. I and the government of China are ready to pay a large price for these battlecruisers. We are also interested in purchasing future battleships from you when possible. I would also appreciate it if the Soviet government give up its claims on Russian Concessions in China and to hand over control of the Chinese Eastern Railroad entirely to China.

With the best of wishes,
Dr. Sun Yat-Sen

I would be delighted to visit Vaduz Castle, however, due to pressing matters in China, I can't leave the nation for now. If it is possible, I would like to invite you to the Presidental Palace in Nanjing for a visit. Any discussion that you want to talk about can be discussed in the presidential palace without any fear of prying ears or eyes. I or another member of my government could help you tour around China. There are many wonderful sights in China that you must see once in your lifetime. However, due to China being dangerous for foreigners right now, I would suggest you be careful where you go and bring guards before entering Nanjing.

We the people of Asia have long been oppressed and exploited by western Imperialists. While our two nations might not have the best relations in past, I believe that we can work together towards a better future of an Asia free from western Imperialism. I would appreciate it if Japan was to hand over their concessions in China and their control of the Southern Manchurian railroad in return for Chinese payment and an alliance between our two nations. I would also appreciate it if you could stop supporting the White Russians and help us remove the western imperialists currently in Russia. A monarchist Russia is far more dangerous than a peaceful Soviet Russia.

Of course! That would be splendid, Mr. Sun Yat-sen. I'll be there by next week so give me time to prepare things. I appreciate your invitation, and I couldn't thank you enough. As you stated, I'll be careful with the protection of my guards. Again, thank you for inviting me, friend.

OFFICIAL U.S. GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

The United States of America issues a formal condemnation of the Bolshevik forces in Russia and allies.

This is due to their continued apalling treatment of the Russian people and their lack of respect for the status quo. More info at a later time.

The United States of America issues a formal cease and desist order to the Principality of Liechtenstein.

This is due to their interaction with Bolshevik allies in China. The U.S. Government wishes to make it's position known that if this is not halted, further acts will be considered.

Russian Statement
regarding
Chinese Criticism

It has come to my attention that Sun Yat-Sen, the president of the Republic of China, has levied major criticism against the All-Russia Provisional Government. I would like to remind Dr. Sun of the actions of the late Tsar Nicholas II, who was the only person willing to mobilize his country to keep the Japanese out of China, and that, had he succeeded, your country may have taken control of Tsingtao, instead of the Japanese. Or maybe how your Republic imprisoned a 12 year-old boy in his palace due to him being a member of the Qing dynasty. That isn't very humanitarian, is it, Dr. Sun? I would also like to remind you of how the Soviet government does not have elections, while the All-Russia Provisional Government has a full parliamentary system. Now, Dr. Sun, who here is truly the hypocrite?

Riga, Lativa, January 4th to 5th, 1919

"Fire!" Shouted an artillery officer as several light artillery pieces opened up on the White Army lines near Riga.

Red Army troops were approaching the city from both the north and from the east, with observation planes occasionally flying over the city to pick out targets or to update the higher-ranking officers of the situation on the ground. But, by the afternoon, and as the front lines kept getting closer to Riga, the weather began to turn as the cloud layer got lower and it seemed a storm was inbound. This meant an end to flights on the Bolshevik side because the weather was deemed too poor.

By the late afternoon, the sky was dark with clouds that seemed heavy with precipitation. But, there was no snowfall that day. And by the late hours of the night, Red Army troops had entered Riga. Enemy troops retreated to more advantageous positions throughout the night, and in close pursuit followed the Red Army. By the early hours of the next morning, long before the sun was to rise, Riga was in Bolshevik hands. The red flag fluttered from the spire of St. Peter's Church and the Riga Castle.

Not even beyond the horizon, one could see the new battle lines quite literally being created. But for now, Riga was seemingly calm as the sun rose, and the government of the Latvian SSR entered Riga to little fanfare for reasons of safety.

Moscow, January 5th, 1919

The mood in the city was oddly jovial despite the grim winter weather and the inherent difficulties of war. In the streets, the news of the capture of Riga was already cause for jubilation for the average citizen. To them, this victory signified a turning point in the civil war, a decisive battle that would cripple the White Army. Playing into this was the historic and economic significance of Riga, the city Peter the Great captured as the war turned in Russia's favor, and an important port and industrial center.

Meanwhile, the mood in the Kremlin was celebratory as well. While Riga was a critical victory, it was a sideshow to the main celebration, and that being the death of Kolchak. The celebration was two-fold, with part of it being dedicated to the demise of Kolchak, and the other part of it is dedicated to the SRs, for they were soon to play in the Bolshevik's favor.

"Christmas came early this year, comrades!" Chuckled Trotsky

"Yes, yes. Very true. A toast to the Whites, may they continue down the course that they are on and to their health this holiday season!" Lenin said, proposing a toast as everyone raised glasses of French wine that predated the revolution by three decades, imperial import stickers still labeled the bottles.

"Cheers!" Said nearly everyone in the room, accepting the toast and then proceeding to speak amongst each other once more.

"How do we approach the gift we have received? Inherently we must do so with caution and tact, but we must also be decisive in using it, lest we lose it." Asked Felix Dzerzhinsky, the director of the Cheka.

"Well, Felix, this is a most recent gift and hence I haven't considered how we are to use it quite yet. But from your question, I assume you have. Is that true?" Lenin responded.

"The assumption is correct, Comrade Lenin," Dzerzhinsky said. "See, the coronation of a Tsar plays against the favor and wishes of the Republican factions of the White movement. Yes, indeed many of them are of the old upper class or the upper-middle class, but they are still anti-Tsarist nonetheless. They are the intellectuals who believe in the ideals of the French Revolution and the Enlightenment, not the archaic natures of the Tsars of old. Despite claiming to be a democracy (of sorts), White Russia has instated the pre-eminent symbol of tyranny in the eyes of the Russian people. And we, comrades, the Bolsheviks, the Soviets, will remedy the evil curse that has befallen our land."

"Excelent, excellent," Zinoviev said excitedly before shifting to a more somber and serious tone. "Then there is the condemnation from the foolish Americans. They are headed by a president who condones to an extent the hangings of innocents for breaking social taboos, so it should not come as a surprise that the Americans also support the continuation of the brutal rule of the Tsar. It probably doesn't help we have also made women the equals of men in our society, something the Americans are yet to do."

"It seems to me, that any refutation should not just focus on the nature of the conflict, but on the societal progress and how much the United States lags behind Russia in social progress. In two years we have done more than they could have done in twenty. Not that I particularly dislike the American people, but their government, their system must change. And of course, they must, and shall stop meddling in Russia." Said Trotsky as Lenin, Zinoviev, and Stalin nodded aprovingly.

"Let us not forget about the Chinese. All of you have read their very charming letter. Their requests are not unreasonable, and the money we would gain from the sale proposed could be put to completing some of the infrastructure projects so rudely disrupted by war or financing the war effort. Of course, it goes without saying that we have little use for the Russian concessions in China." Stalin said.

"Let it be so. I'll pen a response to the two letters later on, for now, let us celebrate the small victories we have." Smiled Lenin as everyone returned to more lighthearted topics of discussion.

Riga, January 6th, 1919

"People of Latvia, comrades! Riga is free of imperialist and interventionist hands! The Worker's and Peasant's Red Amry has triumphed and cut off the enemy to the north and south, surely ensuring their defeat! Do not believe for a second that we Bolsheviks and Soviets want a return to the imperial era, unlike those Whites. We desire unity and cooperation of the peoples of Russia, from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs, as Marx and Engles would say. Our desire is for a future where all peoples may live in peace and prosperity in a nation united by friendship, brotherhood, and the freedom of the working class; a worker's paradise! But, to achieve that dream, this vicious war must end, the bloodshed must end! And it is the foreign interventionists and the Whites who keep shedding blood, prolonging our suffering, and harming our peoples!" Stučka said from his podium as the crown roared approvingly.

"Workers, peasants, and laborers of Lativa, and the rest of Russia, I promise you three things: land reform, freedom from the yokes of oppressive monarchs, and peace, land, and bread! These three things are my promise to you, and if they are delayed it is because the vicious Whites and interventionists cease to keep the average laborer down! Take note comrades, that we will expropriate your farms, or steal your children and livestock, or raid your shops. The Whites will! And unlike the Whites, we Soviets are also inclusive of every nationality and religion. Russian, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Tartars, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Georgians, Armenians, Turks. We do not discriminate on where you are from and who you are, because we are united by common goals, the core one being the betterment of humanity."

"Comrades! Just gaze your eyes on Jukums Vācietis, a Latvian like you and me, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Red Army no less! He is not of noble blood, he worked in a factory as a child, and now he is the head of the Red Army! That is the miracle of the Soviet system, we accept everyone for who they are and we let them rise on their own merits and hard work. The Whites still believe in a feudal system of rule that held Russia, and the Russian peoples back! Laborers, citizens of Russia, rise up against the Whites who seek to sell our nation out and interventionists who seek to suck our nation dry like leeches! Workers and laborers of Russia, you have nothing to lose but your chains, so free yourselves and join the Soviets to grant you and your family a stable and secure future!"

Once Stučka ceased to speak, the crowd erupted in cheers and clapping, some even tossing their hats into the air despite the bitter winter cold. Stučka and Vācietis waved happily at the crowd, smiling at them in very jovial manners. Led off the stage by Latvian Riflemen, the two high-ranking officials were then escorted to their accommodations for the night. Security was tight in Riga, but otherwise, everything else was oddly normal.

Official RSFSR Government Cominique

The United States and its interventionist allies have shown themselves inflexible in yielding to reasonable Soviet demands that would reduce the bloodshed in Russia. Instead of respecting the will of the Peoples of Russia, the interventionists have pledged their further support for the White Army and its corrupt ways that run contrary to the wishes of the Russian peoples.

Surely, one would expect a nation born out of revolutionary fervor like the United States would understand the plight revolutionaries face when fighting reactionary forces seeking to hold onto the institutions and power structures of old. It is not the goal of the RSFSR and the Soviet movement to count the United States as an enemy, but if the US continues down its reactionary ways, we regrettably shall. Alas, the US has betrayed its own ideals, perverted them with the stains of slavery, racism, and voting restrictions against ethnic groups and women. The words of President Willson ring hollow in Russia, a nation where women may vote, you may love whomever you wish to love, and one is free from the tyranny of oppressive bosses. Russia has chosen its own form of democracy, Soviet Democracy, where the power of unions and collective masses has sway over the nation for the good of it, and its people. The Russian peoples do not want the status quo, they want to change, for the better. We the Bolsheviks offer change for the better, the Whites do not.

If one needs further evidence for this, it is clear that the Whites seek to incite old fears and are no more than reactionary warlords, so much so in fact that they have reinstated a monarchy in Russia. The Russian peoples made it abundantly clear in 1917 that they did not wish to live under the yoke of the Tsar. The Whites have disregarded this and created a new, illegitimate Tsar. This Tsar will never be legitimate as long as the people do not wish to see a return to the dictatorial and feudal system of old. Russia does not need a monarchy, not even a parliamentary monarchy. It needs a federation of equals, and that is what we the Soviets are striving for. And it is what we will bring about, for the benefit of Russia and her peoples, and to further their glory and prosperity.

Workers of the world, unite!

To: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen
From: Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

Greetings Comrades of China and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen,

Your sympathy with our movement is much obliged, as is your offer of aid. I along with the rest of the government of the RSFSR warmly and graciously accept this aid, and we understand your hesitancy to fight the Entente, from our experience, their war machines are fierce and terrifying with the effect not being psychological, but also physical. Your aid is going to be an invaluable contribution to our war effort and is as I have said before, very much obliged.

Having spoken with the rest of my government, we have come to the consensus that ceasing our claims on Russian concessions in China as well as handing over the Chinese Eastern Railroad shares to China is the very least we can do in return for your aid. While I can't assure how easy the actual control of the lines and concessions will be due to them being under foreign control, the transfer of shares and ownership tiles can be done easily and will be done as soon as possible. The problems with transportation present currently when it comes to sending physical items to Asia is something that should be alleviated promptly enough. And once that issue is alleviated, the delivery of shares will occur. But in the meantime, consider those assets yours and use them as such.

When it comes to the sale of military equipment, I suggest sending a diplomat to Moscow or Petrograd to discuss that topic. As you have correctly noted, Russia is unable to export arms as it needs to focus on itself. However, the sale of hulls for Borodino Class battlecruisers can be. However, it is best to discuss such sensitive matters in person lest scheming parties intercept our messages and aging information they are not privy to.

I look forward to further corresponding with you, and the furtherment of cooperation between Russia and China.

With Regards,
V.I. Lenin

A small town in Russia near the Manchurian border, January 4th, 1919

As snow fell and the sun began to set, people began to set in for their nightly routines. However, for those living in this town, they would not get much sleep that night as the sound of hooves grew ever closer. Many of them, already used to the brutal treatment by the marauding cossacks employed by the White Russian, began to hide whatever valuables they could wherever they could. The men armed themselves with whatever they could find, be it their farming equipment, kitchen wear, or furniture, and gathered near the town's center. The women gathered their children into the church in the center of the town and hugged them protectively. What none of them would expect, was a contingent of Asiatic-looking men riding horses dressed in a uniform that they were not used to. In the front of this contingent of cavalry was a man dressed in a khaki-colored uniform, alongside him rode another man dressed in a light blue uniform carrying a flag with a blue square and white sun.

The man in the khaki uniform dismounted and announced to the townspeople in an accented and halting Russian, "People...of...Stavrogda...you have..been...liberated....by...the...National...Revolutionary...Army." The man would look down at a piece of paper before continuing, "No...longer...will...you...have..to..worry...about...the..marauding..whites..or...imperialist...westerners. It...is.. the time...for...you...to..fight...back..and..break...your..chains!"

The townspeople stared on in disbelief, not truly comprehending what he just said. The khaki-uniformed man would turn to someone next to him and speak in a language that almost none of them would understand. It was to be expected since even if some of them did know some Mandarin, they would not be used to the Jiangnan accent that the officers spoke in, or the various southern and eastern provincial accents that the rank and file spoke in. They were more used to the northern accents spoken by those in Manchuria, which made a very small portion of the overall recruits in the second army group who primarily recruited from southern and eastern provinces due to them being stationed near Nanjing.

The rank and file took this opportunity to talk amongst themselves."Old wang, do you think something is wrong with these Russians? Lieutenant Liu already told them what we're doing 10 minutes ago and they've been making that face ever since. You would expect them to be happy or at the very least thank us for this. I wouldn't say no to some warm food, dry clothes, and maybe a few woman to keep company for the night."

"Little brother, you know that the lieutenant will execute here and if he doesn't the regimental commander will court-martial you if you actually decide to sleep with one of the women in this village. We are supposed to act as liberators, not like the white imperialists. Now be quiet, it seems like one of the Russians is coming to speak with our commander." While the soldiers were talking amongst themselves, the Russians were doing the same. Some whispered about Japanese soldiers, others Manchu bandits, and some even talked about one of the Asiatic ethnic Green militias. Despite the differences in their ideas, they all agreed that whoever these strangers were, they were peaceful, and decided to send one of the more charismatic townsmen to talk with these strange people.

"Who, uh are you people my lords? It is not often that meet people like you here."

"We...are..liberators...hailing...from...China. We...fight...against...the...whites."

This scene was repeated similarly all along the Sino-Russian border. After the cavalry came the infantry and artillery, who immediately began to entrench themselves and set up lines of communications between themselves, the army command, and the President in Nanjing.

Ürümqi, Xinjiang

National Revolutionary Army troops and supporters surrounded the presidential palace in Ürümqi, demanding that the Xinjiang warlord, Yang Zengxin to exit the building immediately. The Nanjing government had tolerated Yang Zengxin, but due to recent laws strengthening the central government, they have decided that a warlord who had supported Yuan Shikai and fought against Republican forces during the Xinhai revolution was no longer worth keeping around. The various ethnic minorities and Han population also deeply disliked the man due to his dictatorial ruling and his favor of Hui Muslims and oppression of other ethnicities. As the siege wore on, the NRA begins to bring in artillery pieces.

"Yang Zengxin, you have 30 minutes to exit the building before we open fire on the building!" Shouted Major General Ma Hongkui, who was a Hui Muslim in service of the National Revolutionary Army. "For those that are serving under Yang Zengxin, if you surrender and exit the building with your weapons above your head, you will be granted amnesty for any crimes you may have committed under the command of Yang Zengxin or any of his lieutenants! For those that do not surrender, you will be attacked and if captured alive will be sentenced to work in one of the mines in northern China."

As soon as he said that, a small line of men began to exit the Presidental palace towards the NRA lines. Those who remained in the building refused to fire on the men they had served with for years. "What are you doing! FIRE ON THOSE TRAITORS!" Shouted one of Yang Zengxin's lieutenants, though, by this point, those who remained in the building no longer had any will to fight the Republican troops anymore. Instead, they turned on their former commander and attacked him instead. Just as Ma Hongkui began to order the artillery to open fire, the remaining men walked out of the building waving white flags and dragging alongside them Yang Zengxin and his family.

"We surrender! Don't open fire! We surrender!"

The news of the capture of Yang Zengxin would spread across the region in a few days with many of his former soldiers and officers abandoning their positions or running to NRA garrisons offering their service to them instead. The news of his capture would spread to President Sun Yat-Sen four days later.

Ulaanbaatar, Outer Mongolia

Soldiers along with diplomats were gathered in the Mongolian capital. Once the Chinese government heard about the Russian civil war, they sent diplomats outer Mongolia. Today one of the Chinese diplomats would finalize the return of Mongolia with the Mongolian Parliament, "The Mongolian people and state rejoin the Republic of China. We all belong to one nation, and that nation is China. We will allow Mongolian nobles to retain their titles, but they will no longer be able to rule in a feudal manner. Mongolia will be treated as an autonomous region, but Chinese soldiers and laws will be implemented as long as they do not conflict with Mongolian traditions."

The Mongolian nobles, knowing that they had no of stopping the Chinese, and not wanting to conquered like Tibet was in 1914, relented to these terms and agreed to rejoin China. The general populace itself was mainly supportive of this, as years of misrule by the Mongolian theocracy came to an end along with the promise of economic development by China.

Nanjing Daily
[/size]The Chinese government has announced official Chinese programs to further the Chinese economy and industry! New railways are to be built in China, along with a railway connecting Xinjiang to Nanjing! New factories are to be opened in nearly all major industrial and population centers! The government has also announced the start of the development of Chinese "tanks" which had revolutionized warfare in Europe, and to begin developing a Chinese airforce and domestic aerospace industry!

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and the Chinese government have also announced that China will now officially recognize the Soviet government as the legitimate government of all of Russia, and will cease diplomatic relations with White Russia. This is due to the increasingly hostile nature of the White Russians, and due to several border skirmishes breaking out between White Russian and Chinese forces!

Dr. Sun's response to the Russian dictator Kerensky!
You claim that your Tsar came to the aid of Russia when Japan sought to expand its holdings in China? Do I need to remind you who was part of the Eight-Nation Alliance that attacked China and sacked the forbidden city? It was Russia and your Tsar did not fight to protect China! He fought to protect his illegal holdings in Russia! As for your comments on the former emperor Puyi, is he truly imprisoned when he allowed traveling wherever he wants in China and around the world? Is it imprisonment when he is provided the best teachers' possibles or that he has an annual allowance that allows him to live his life however he wants? if that is imprisonment to you, then I shiver to think what you say about the Soviet leader, Lenin petting a cat. Will you call that animal abuse? Or maybe claim something far more sinister? Either way, your statements about China are baseless and pure slander. You also claim to be a democracy, yet I have not seen any elections from you yet, nor do I see your people supporting your country. Do I need to remind you just how unpopular your government was for Kolchak to be able to launch a coup d'etat against your government without much resistance?

Greetings Comrades,

I cannot say just how thankful I am to your government for your decision to relinquish your claims on Russian concessions in China along with your handover of the Chinese Eastern Railroads. I can assure you that the Chinese people will be heartened to hear of this wondrous news. As for the sales of military equipment, we will be sure to send a diplomat as soon as feasibly possible to traverse all of Russia. Already soldiers from the National Revolutionary Army have crossed the borders, ready to help you liberate the working class of Russia from their feudal lords and Western imperialists.[/box]

10:00 AM OST

Pyotr Wrangel looked over reports coming from the frontlines of the war. Skirmish in Talinn, Shelling of Kazan, Western Line being shelled. He sat back in his chair, ready to take a nap. But something felt... off, like he should just read the next report, as if it would be more important than the others. He lifted the report up, examining it in the way an old man may examine a newspaper. The top of the page had 6 words, Riga has fallen, Northern Corps split. He immediately called a meeting between the top generals of the White Army, along with the heads of government.

12:00 PM OST

After a 2 hour wait, the top brass of the All-Russia Provisional Government had arrived. A seat was reserved for the Tsar, who obviously would not be showing up anytime soon. Pyotr Wrangel stood up, and began pointing at a map on the table.

"As you all know, Riga has fallen into the hands of the Communist rebels. The Northern Corps is split, and action must be taken immediately if we want to have any hope of salvaging the Corps. Any ideas?"

The room goes silent. Not a sound to be made or heard.

"Anyone? Anyone at all?"

Anton Denikin stands up. and draws a line on the map, crossing through the bottom of the Soviet spearhead.

"They broke our lines and advanced 50 km towards Riga in only half a week. They must not have left much to guard their rear if they are to advance this quickly. Strike behind their spearhead, cut them off, and besiege Riga. If possible, we could negotiate an exchange, and give them the encircled soldiers in exchange for the Tsar. If not, we collapse in on them and obliterate them. If this fails, we will use the Black Sea fleet to evacuate them, the Baltic Sea is frozen, so the Soviets will not be able to get their ships out of port to stop us. In addition, I suggest a relief offensive to capture Tashkent and effectively wipe out Soviet Resistance in Turkestan."

Anton Denikin sits down, and lights a cigar. Pyotr Wrangel, surprised by the depth of Denikin's plan, takes a moment before responding.

"And that is why Kolchak wanted you to be the head of the Army before his death! But Anton, where will we get all the troops for a relief offensive?"

Denikin takes his cigar out his mouth. Some of the other officers take deep breaths, as the room was beginning to become clouded with smoke.

"We can use Mongol units to help in out offensive, along with the Czechoslovak Legion. Along with the Malleson Mission currently being undertaken by British forces, that should suffice. The Tashkent will be hard to take down, considering the past British attempts to destroy them have failed, but as long as it eases pressure on the Northern Corps, it is a success."

Pyotr Wrangel writes Denikin's plan down on a notepad.

"Any objections?"

Outskirts of Batciems, Latvia

As White Army forces prepare to attack Batciems, Colonel Dmitry Kelikenin sits in his officers tent with five other officers, planning the next day's attack. The men are bundled up in winter clothing, yet still shivering. An officer sighs, and his breath immediately condenses into water vapor. The temperature is -30 degrees Celsius, and the soldiers take to resting their weapons above a boiling pot of water to keep their weapons from freezing. Icicles grow from some of the soldiers' beards, but many endure the cold anyway, under the belief that maybe, just maybe, they could get the Tsar out of captivity by winning the battle.

Forests near Tashkent, Turkestan

A combined group of forces from the Transcaspian Government, the British expedition, and the Mongolian Army begin to reinforce the lines near Tashkent. Many of them cannot speak the other force's language, but there is one language that is universal; cigarettes. The soldiers bond by sitting around fires smoking cigarettes. They tell stories to each other, translated by the few that can speak the other's language. They trade uniforms, food, and caps, before being ordered to go to bed at around 10:00 PM.

January 6th 1919
London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland
War Cabinet Office
Prime Minister David Lloyd George

For 4 long years, the War Cabinet Office essentially the new 10 Downing Street for the Prime Minister, the many halls, rooms, and offices were always filled with busy people giving and directing orders to the entire armed forces of the UK and her Commonwealth. While a ceasefire had been reached in mainland Europe with the armistice of the 11th of November the world was still very much at war, unrest in India, an outright revolution in parts of Ireland, and the rise of left-wing militarism in the country and that was just inside the British Empire. Civil War in Russia, a German Empire that still has a sizeable army should the ceasefire end with no conclusion and maintaining the current status quo throughout the world. All these decisions would keep David Lloyd George, the Prime Minister since 1916, up at night he would now have to lead Britain and her empire back to the glory days from before the war and to reinforce the Pax Britannica.

"Bolshevik forces have taken Riga, the Capital of the Provisional Government of Latvia." Arthur Balfour stated as he placed a map showing the location of the Northern Theater of Operation Red Trek which was a Royal Navy military operation against the Bolsheviks. "Which means they have completely broken through the baltic line threatening not only the Estonia provisional government but also our ability to move freely through the Baltic sea and provide support to White forces in Petrograd." Arthur continued turning his face to Prime Minister George

"As such the new commander of the forces, Rear-Admiral Cowan is increasing his bombardment of Bolshevik forces and their supply lines. The Bolshevik naval forces in the area have yet to engage our forces, the ships the Avtroil and Spartak that were captured in December have been given to the Estonian Navy. Overall the Royal Navy does have Naval dominance but the capture of Riga provides an issue however I see no problem in the Royal giving support to Latvian forces to try to recapture the city." The Viscount Long the first lord Admirialtiy informed the rest of the ministry. All of the ministers looked to the Prime Minister who sat calmly looking over the situation. The Prime Minister sending soldiers directly into the conflict would be a decision widely unpopular even inside the Royal Navy there was discontent with even being in the baltic sea. However, to simply let the Bolsheviks roll over Eastern Europe was something the Prime Minister was not going to let happen especially something that could provide a catalyst for a resurgent Germany to take advantage of. "Rear Admiral Cowan is confident in his abilities then I see no reason that we should escalate the situation nor do I see a reason that we should also increase our naval presence in the area." Prime Minister George spoke placing the papers he was reading to the side. "Tell the Rear-Admiral that he should increase the bombardment on the Latvian side since it would seem that the Estonian front is more stable." A simple nod from the First Lord of the Admiralty confirmed the order. "With regards to the Civil War in general I believe that what we are doing in providing naval and military support where we can to the white forces is our best course of action for now." After finishing the Prime Minister handed all the relevant documents regarding Operation Red Trek to an assistant that carried them away.

"Lord Milner and Mr. Shorrt, I am being told that there are some issues regarding the handling and transporting of soldiers of the colonies, do you care to elaborate." Mr. George inquired

"Yes of course Prime Minister." Lord Milner the Secretary of State for the Colonies responded standing up to speak to the rest of the ministry. "Currently most of the soldiers that had fought in Europe remain inside Great Britain with colonies organizing themselves on bringing soldiers back home however this is leading to some issues mainly that most of the colonies do not have the ships that can transport such large numbers of troops back to their respective homes. Secondly, there is also the issue with treating wounded soldiers currently like transport all injured are being treated by their respective colonies but again leading to some issues regarding medical supply as well staff themselves wanting to go home." Milner then placed his hand on top of the left shoulder of Edward Shortt the Home Secretary who proceeded to hand him the plan that had been developed between the two. "As such me and The Right Honourable, have come up with a plan for dealing with such issues. We will use the merchant ships that are still currently conscripted for war to transport as many soldiers as we can as quickly as we can thereby reducing the impact that they currently are having on Britain. Secondly, we will centralize the medical system by combining all medical staff both our own and those of the colonies, and allow any surplus staff to head home alongside troops. As such with this plan we can see by the end of the year all colonial force be returned back to their homes." The plan was then handed down the table towards the prime minister for his approval. Giving it a quick read he spoke up "While I will have to read through this document more carefully later on I see no major reason as to why this plan can not be implemented, so begin to make arrangements with the different colonies about bringing their soldiers back home."

Post Summary:

The Royal Navy will continue action in the Baltic sea against Bolshevik forces. It will now begin to focus on providing support for Lativian forces after the capture of Riga.
A plan for transporting colonial troops is being put in place as well as dealing with their wounded.

Seaport, Genoa, Italy
January, 1919

The time has come; Prince Johann II will visit Nanjing, China, this month due to President Sun Yat-sen not visiting Vaduz Castle. His brother, Franz I, will serve as regent during his absence. Since the visit will be memorable, Johann II will be the first Liechtensteiner prince to visit an Asian country and come out of an almost solitary foreign policy besides Switzerland. Newspapers have spread all over Liechtenstein about his sudden visit to a faraway land that is China. However, the populace wasn't as shocked as they were, and they were happy for the prince to try something new and intrepid—an unexpected positive turn for the country.

Within a few days, in a car, Johann II has arrived in Genoa, Italy, to take a ship from there since his country doesn't have a navy due to being a landlocked country. It would take weeks for him to arrive at Nanjing, China. He will bring guards to keep him safe if something were to go wrong. Although his journey will be an exciting one, dangers are to be expected.

Ottawa, The Dominion of Canada
January 5, 1919
Image

On Parliament Hill various cabinet ministers took their seats as the first cabinet meeting of the year was about to begin. As they took their seats the Prime Minister at the head of the table rose to address the chamber. "Ministers, thank you for attending our first meeting of the year, I am sure we are all glad to be back at work, we have a lot of work before us in this new year, but I know that we can through it, and that we can work to solve these problems. As ministers, as some the most experienced and talented public servants in the country and indeed the world, I know that we can face anything, isn't that why I chose you? With the great war behind us, what might have possibly been the toughest challenge in the history of the autonomous Canada, we have now to face the process of demobilization and for the return of soldiers to civilian life. That process will not be easy to navigate, but I have confidence in all of you to achieve it. Now first I want to inform you all that I will be meeting with the American President on the seventeenth in Niagara, in my stead William, William White will be running things in Ottawa."

William Thomas White was the Minister of Finance and Receiver General simply nodded after Borden spoke, he had been informed of Borden's meeting with the President the day before, so this announcement to the cabinet came as no surprise to him. White was trusted by Borden, perhaps one of the few that Borden trusted to govern without his interference, White was in charge of making financial policy and had almost total autonomy in doing so, though of course Borden did add some things or change some things in his policies from time to time, especially if it was something that would be voted on in Parliament, there would just be too much politically at stake for Borden to simply trust someone.

After Borden spoke the Minister of Overseas Military Forces Albert Kemp, an ardent conservative and a man vehemently against free trade with America would speak up "Wasn't our government elected in opposition to Laurier's proposal of free trade with America, we ought not to be too close with those filthy Americans. Our loyalties do and must lie with the Empire, the Crown, we must encourage more with Britain and her other colonial possessions, we can't let Americans dominate our market."

Before Borden can respond Thomas Crerar, the more liberal Minister of Agriculture Thomas Crerar rises to speak "I think we ought to allow our people more access to the American market, nothing wrong with us Canadians being able to make more money. Can you believe a former businessman is saying this? It's like he wants to hurt Canadian farmers. There should be nothing with our Prime Minister, a world leader, simply meeting with the American President, another world leader, and the leader of our neighbour."

Borden finally in an attempt to calm the room "As the Minister said I will be simply meeting with the American President, I believe there are certain issues that we need to discuss regarding foreign affairs. I agree with both of you we certainly need to emphasize our ties to the Empire, and I will certainly be trying to arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister David Lloyd George, or at least have Martin [Burrell, the Secretary of State of Canada, responsible for communication between Ottawa and London] meet him. But I do think farmers need more opportunity, and that will be an avenue I explore and I have not currently made a decision on yet. Now on your comment of our government was elected, our government was elected, this government was elected as the united party from different ends of a political spectrum, elected to unite the country and lead during a war. It has proven to a government that brought a victorious Canada, and a victorious Empire. Let be known now that I intend to keep this party together because we still have big issues to face, and we still need the same mentality going into the future, I believe we can keep this government going because we still need it going forward. I will speak to the full caucus next week, but I want you to know now, that I intend to keep this party, and this government together. Now onto the next order of business, a have received a letter from Sir Arthur Currie, and there seems to be many advocating for the system in which soldiers return be changed from the first over first back system to a system in by which soldiers are returned by their unit. I personally think that the first soldiers over in Europe ought to rewarded by coming home earlier but Ministers Mewburn, Kemp, and Lougheed, what do you think?"

The Minister of Militia and Defence Sydney Mewburn, a soldier in the Great War himself is the first to respond saying "I would I agree with Sir Arthur, I think moving them by their unit or division or regiment would be an easier, more efficient, and more orderly process, and I think that we may be able to get all troops back home faster."

Albert Kemp, the Minister of Overseas Forces speaks up in opposition to what Mewburn said. "I agree with the Prime Minister I think we ought to keep our current system and reward the troops that went over early."

"I'm going to defer to ministers Mewburn and Kemp on this." says James Lougheed, the Minister of Soldiers' Civil Re-establishment.

"What does the rest of the cabinet think?" the Prime Minister asks. There are mixed chatters around the room but most seem to agree with Mewburn, and the Prime Minister speaks up again. "Alright then, since much of the cabinet thinks that we should change the way in we bring home troops, I'll consider it. Minister Mewburn if you'll be kind enough to draw up plans for how such a new would work that would be excellent, we'll take up the plan in our next cabinet meeting, which I'll schedule for the 21st."

Mewburn nods saying "I think I might have a way to get the best of both worlds."

Borden continues speaking "Now onto the next issue, and I think the last issue on the agenda, that is the calls some kind of supports for demobilizing soldiers. I have received numerous letters calling on us to fund this program run by the CEF (Canadian Expeditionary Force), or to quote do at least something for soldiers. So what do you all think we should do?"

Newton Rowell, the Minister presiding over the Ministry of Health and the Former Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party speaks up saying "Well we got to give them something, after what they did. Perhaps giving soldiers scholarships to public universities, or giving soldiers some farmland or something."

Robert Borden ponders this a little while "Minister Crerar do we have a lot of farmland available?" Thomas Crerar, the Minister of Agriculture shakes his head "No, nothing good, at least, and we should probably leave for others that might put more money into this country." Borden nods "Right then, that's off the table, I think we should leave education in provincial authority, I guess we could do what they're asking for and fund Khaki University as a state-funded education program. There will be a lot of men coming back is search of jobs, and I'm sure they will be angry if they don't them, and I think this would be a prime opportunity to expand our public works. Ministers Carvell and Reid I will be assigning you to create a plan to expand our public works and employ more men. Minister Robertson I want you to develop a jobs plan." Frank Carvell, the Minister of Public Works, John Reid, the Minister of Railways and Canals, and Gideon Robertson, the Minister of Labour all nod as the Prime Minister assigns them roles. "But how will we manage the cost of all of this?" inquires William White, the Minister of Finance.

"Well with troops demobilizing, the costs that we've to pay to continue the war and maintain our army will go down, and we're simply just re-investing that. I do intend to keep the income tax for another year, at least until a peace treaty is signed, we still need that money. Now onto our final issue of this meeting that is what to do with our wounded soldiers."

Albert Kemp, the Minister of Overseas Forces spoke saying "Well since they aren't able to make the voyage back to Canada, they need to stay in Britain, and I think they should transferred into the facilities and care of British medical staff, permanently until they have recovered."

Newton Rowell, the Minister presiding over the Ministry of Health added in by saying "I think Canadian medical staff would be willing to assist British staff in Britain."

"Alright then, I'll write to Prime Minister David Lloyd George some of the things we agreed on in this meeting. I think that concludes our meeting for today, so I'll see you all again on the 21st." Borden said concluding the meeting.
From: Robert Borden
To: David Lloyd George

I am writing following a meeting of my cabinet in which there have been several decisions made. First off I wish for there to be a meeting between yourself or one of your ministers and the Canadian Secretary of State Martin Burrell, I believe there are many things that need to discussed following the armistice this past November. The second subject of which I write to you is regarding wounded Canadian soldiers, we wish for them to be transferred into the care of medical facilities and staff in Britain until they have recovered and are able to make the voyage back home. I hope this is something that you accept as we currently do have much else of an alternative, and we have fought on the call of and in the name of the Empire. We will have all Canadian medical staff assisting British staff taking care of the Canadian troops if this is an agreement that goes through. But I suppose that all I have to write to for now, I send you and the Empire my warmest regards.

Signed,
Robert Borden

Outskirts of Batciems, Latvia

In the artillery pit of the Russian camp, artillery crews frantically attempt to thaw out the mechanisms of their howitzers. The temperature is a freezing -16 degrees Celsius, and many soldiers can barely aim their rifles without winter gloves. The artillery crews are forced to remove the shells from the guns and use a lighter to melt the ice in the mechanism of the guns. Finally, at 11:00 PM EET, the bombardment begins. The delay serves to aid the White Army, as the late start surprises the Soviet forces, many of whom are sleeping. At 11:30 PM, after half an hour of bombardment, White Army forces leave their trenches, and begin to advance under the cover of night. The artillery barrage is ordered to continue until the attack reaches within 20 meters of the Soviet lines. At 11:45, the soldiers reach that mark, and the shelling stops. Soldiers affix bayonets, and begin to charge at the Soviet lines, as shouts of "Ura!" echo through the night.

Forests outside of Tashkent, Tashkent Soviet

Meanwhile, in Tashkent, Anglo-Asian forces attempt a more pitched battle. The Anglo-Czechoslovak forces form a semicircle outside of the city, while the Mongol-Tuvan-Transcaspian forces attack the Soviet flanks, in an attempt to force a rout, or at least force them into the Anglo-Czechoslovak semicircle. Gunfire breaks out quickly, and the Mongol-Tuvan-Transcaspian force begins their advance towards the Soviet lines.

Omsk, Russia

Alexander Kerensky ponders over a stack of papers regarding the Chinese invasion. He stands up, slams his fists on his desks, and knocks over his chair."CYKA BLYAT! GOD FUCKING DAMNIT! THOSE GODDAMN CITIZENS DON'T EVEN REALIZE THEY ARE BEING INVADED!" He immediately goes for the telephone in his office, and, after a few deep breaths, picks up the phone. "Hello, Operator, get Pyotr Wrangel on the phone. It is an urgent matter, and I would appreciate if you could make it quick." After a short wait, during which the sound of hold music makes Kerensky begin to become red with anger, Pyotr Wrangel's voice is heard on the line.

"Hello, Alexander, Do you want to discuss the upcoming offensive? The preparations have been going quite well."

"No, Pyotr, I want to talk about the Chinese invasion." Kerensky responds, in a very audible rage.

"What about the Chinese invasion?"

"I want an army deployed to the Manchurian border"

"How do you expect me to spare an army, in the middle of an offensive, when a large chunk of our personnel are stuck in the Baltic?"

"I swear to fucking god Pyotr. Just get some newly trained divisions of the White Guard. Even if they do not have combat experience, they should be enough to at least force the Chinese to pick between peace or open conflict."

"Okay, okay, calm down. We have some men fresh out of training in Vladivostok. We should be able to muster up enough to at least cover key cities, though that means we will have less to reinforce the Siberian front."

"Do I sound like I give shit Pyotr? Just get the men on the border using the Trans-Siberian railway."

Kerensky slams the phone down, nearly breaking it in the process. He begins writing a message to the Japanese Emperor.

From: Alexander Kerensky
To: Emperor Yoshihito

Hello, Emperor. Today I come to you offering not an alliance, not a pact, not money, but opportunity. The opportunity to gain what the nations of Europe would not allow you to gain just a decade ago. While I know that the relationship between our two countries has been tenuous in the past, I hope you can put our past differences aside. I offer you the opportunity to attack the so-called "Republic" of China, and gain the concessions you were denied all those years ago. As someone who has had experiences with missed opportunity, I know that you must take opportunities while you can. So, will you take this opportunity while you can, or will you let it slip?

Moscow, January 8th

"What are you doing?" Calmly asked Lenin as he walked over to Yakov Sverdlov, Vasili Altfater, and Leon Trotsky.

"Studying the map and corroborating reports. Our scouts have reported possible army movements around Tashkent, which puts our position in the Fergana Valley under serious threat, though Verny will remain fairly safe unless the Whites launch an offensive from the north. The problem remains that if Tashkent falls, so might Central Asia." Explained Sverdlov.

"Yes, yes. Indeed so, and what about in the Baltics?" Lenin asked as Altfater readied himself to speak.

"Comrade Lenin," He began. "It is likely, no, certain that the Whites will attempt to take Riga since without their lines are severed and weak. However, that is a predictable move as Comrade Trotsky pointed out to me. They likely have assumed our rear is weak in Latvia; it is. But, our front in Estonia is sufficiently strong to serve as a pincer, and like in a game of chess, the mere threat of it should prove critical. But, the ace in our sleeve is the Baltic Fleet. Theoretically, with enough forewarning, or if our lines are able to hold out for long enough, the Borodino, Grazhdanin, Zarya Svobody, and Rurik could be dispatched with the aide of our icebreaker fleet."

"Intriguing, and have you not considered the notion that the Whites know this? The last thing we need to lose is ships, especially fairly powerful ships, even if they are in some cases, fairly outdated." Lenin retorted, not irately, but curiously.

"I have, comrade, but it seems unlikely to me there would be much of a threat, personally speaking, that is," Altfater replied.

"I urge caution. The consequences for failure are high." Was Lenin's cryptic response.

"And then we come to the Trans-Siberian railway. Perhaps the most critical piece of infrastructure we have yet to capture. With it, Central Asia is ours, Siberia is ours, Russia is ours. But, the Whites know this, so do the allied interventionists. What we need, is to possibly consider diplomatic options to bring about the revolution. The Americans have already stated firmly that they will support the Whites, but perhaps the British and French may be more malleable and willing to accept our demands." Said Sverdlov as Trotsky nodded intently.

"Indeed, yes, yes." Said Trotsky. "We now need to focus on Ukraine and Belarus. Already, our forces have made excellent progress and are closing in on Kiev and Minsk. Both cities should be in Soviet hands by February hopefully. Meanwhile, the offensives in Donetsk have slowed down due to weather and partly due to Cossak resistance. The southern front has remained static, the same is said for the northern front."

"Excelent," Lenin said. "Focus on linking up with our forces in Central Asia, that will end white dominance in the region. Also, try and focus on the Trans-Siberian Railway and the western front. Hold pressure on all fronts, make the Whites bow the knee." Lenin stated. "I have business to attend to."

Outskirts of Batciems, Late January 8th to January 9th, 1919

"Shchto?" (What?) Asked a Red Army soldier, clearly either of Ukrainian descent or born near the Ukrainian border.

"I swear to god Dimitri that if this is the bloody Whites, I am going to use you as a meat shield." Cursed the first soldier's companion.

"Vadim, it's the Whites." Grumbled the first soldier as the Whites charged with their bayonets drawn.

"Damnit!" Shouted the second soldier, raising his Model 1915 Madsen Machine Gun.

"Don't just sit there, fire the damn thing!" Stated Dimitri as the Whites trudged through the snow, ever closer.

When Vadim finally opened up with the Whites only ten meters away from the line, the troops crumpled. Of course, many made their way past the maelstrom, and greeting them was pistol and rifle fire from the freshly awaken Red Army soldiers, most of them shoddily dressed. In the meantime, Maxim machine guns had also opened up and they were much more efficient at cutting down the White troops. But, this was not sufficient to stop the White advance, and soon both lines converted, with both sides resorting to hand-to-hand fighting.

Cooks, mechanics, and other auxiliary troops on the Red Army side joined on with a motley collection of improvised melee weapons ranging from axes and shovels to crowbars and knives from the field kitchen to homemade melee weapons like clubs with spikes in them. Joining into the fray, they were a godsend for the still half-asleep soldiers who were less so fighting for ideological reasons, and more fighting for peace and quiet so they may sleep in peace. Perhaps the Whites had not expected the power of human needs to overpower the power of ideology and political causes, because these soldiers seemed intent on ensuring they got their sleep, even if it meant beating the enemy in the dark of night.

Tashkent, January 9th, 1919

"At night, seriously?" Cursed a sentry as gunfire crackled during the night.

"I just wanted to sleep." Grimly said an officer shuffling pas the sentry with a rifle in hand, and his eyes glossed over with exhaustion.

"Somebody contact Comrade Lenin." A random soldier said.

"They probably already have." Said another random soldier.

In the meantime, all troops were awoken and sent out in their pajamas and the most basic clothing to the front lines. There was no time to get dressed, and there was no time to eat anything, not even take a shot of alcohol to wake up. Despite the bitter cold of the night, the Red Army troops didn't seem to mind, their minds numbed by the impending sense of doom. Putting them on an even higher sense of alert was the first booms of Red Army artillery pieces as they were fired and efforts were made to de-ice them at the same time. Certainly a risky move, but there was son time to lose.

Meanwhile, in the center of Tashkent in the headquarters of the Red Army, Pyotr Kobozev [the leader of RKKA forces in the region] had an urgent radio message sent to Moscow notifying the RKKA's high command of the White assault on Tashkent, and asking for reinforcements to be sent as soon as possible. Little did Kobozev know that Lenin was already awake and furious even though it was roughly 1:30 in the morning.

Moscow, January 9th, 1919, 1:30

The Kremlin was light up despite it being very early in the morning. Lenin and his inner circle were pouring over maps, furiously searching for solutions to the dilemma. First Latvia, and now Central Asia, what next? Whatever the Whites were planning, it was something big, and it has caught the Bolsheviks off-guard. Because of the very late hour, thinking straight was extremely difficult. In the mind of Lenin, the conundrum he was in was exactly the situation the Whites wanted him to be in, disoriented, confused, unable to react. He was mere millimeters from tearing up every last piece of paper in the room. Conversely, everyone else in the room was moderately concerned, but not to the point of destruction, unlike Lenin.

"I WANT KERENSKY'S HEAD ON A STAKE, AND I WANT WRANGLE'S BODY IN THE MOSKVA, UNDERSTOOD?!" Lenin roared angrily, his face red with frustration and anger, and his hands shaking with desperation, his eyes maddened with rage.

"That may prove difficult, Comrade Lenin." Sverdlov with trembling hands.

"I KNOW!" Lenin replied before returning to a more subdued tone of voice. "This is a setback, a temporary one hopefully, but a very clear setback nonetheless. Dzerzhinsky, I want you to pay Nicholas a visit around breakfast time. Chicherin, you're fired, you incompetent oaf. Stalin, you take Chicherin's job. Yakov, I want you to get Frunze in Central Asia immediately. And Zinoviev, don't mess up the whole Internationale this year, this is not the year for mistakes."

"Fired? If I may ask, Comrade Lenin, why?" Asked Chicherin.

"Damnit Chicherin! You're ill, you're anti-British, you're not the right man for the post!" Lenin cursed at Chicherin.

"And yet Comrade Stalin---" Chicherin began to say before Lenin cut him off.

"Stalin can do your job the times better you foolish oaf! Leave!" Lenin shouted as Chicherin did as told, and Stalin silently watched in glee.

"Now, fix this mess, or one of you may be next," Lenin told everyone in the room, his eyes boiling with rage.

Trans-Aral Railway, Somewhere Around Donguzkaya, January 9th, 1919

"Orders from Moscow." A radio operator told Frunze.

"May I see?" Asked Frunze as the operator gave him the message.

"Yes, comrade." Said the operator.

"Lovely, just lovely. We're not going to sleep anytime soon." Grumbedl Frunze.

"Comrade?"

"Look, tell the locomotive engineers to get these trains up and running again. We need to get to Tashkent quickly. The Whites are advancing on the city, and we need to reinforce the city." Said Frunze.

"I shall comrade." Said the radio operator.

"Excelent."

Within the hour, rating down the railway tracks were both armored and unarmored trains making their way to Tashkent. Belching black smoke, the trains shook the ground as they trudged towards their destination as fast as they possibly could go. The snowy ground provided a contrast to the trains as they made their way across the lonely steppe. Frunze was determined to not let Tashkent fall, even if doing so would mean crossing a delicate transport link not even fully in Red Army hands. In his mind, this was the right move, exactly what needed to be done

1:00 AM

Batciems, Latvia

A White Army Corporal sits behind a stone wall, unable to peak his head over. "Kirill! Get the fuck over here!" A Private crawls towards him, making sure to keep his head down. "Yes, Sir. What do you need?" The Corporal ducks under more machine gun fire. "Give me your trench periscope. And we're in the middle of a battle, so you don't need to be all that polite." The Private pulls a periscope out of his bag. "Here." The Corporal looks through the periscope, placing it just above the stone wall. He looks around the battlefield for a few minutes, before placing the periscope down. He scribbles a note.

"This is Corporal Nicholas Kowalski. We are pinned down and requesting Artillery support. Shell their Munitions hut at 2,9 Sector 5"

"Run back to base and deliver this note, I'll cover you."

"But-"

"GO!"

The Private sprints away from the stone wall towards the Forward Command 50 meters away. The Corporal begins blind firing toward Soviet forces, and manages to keep the bulk of the fire away from the Private. The Private takes a Mosin-Nagant round to the leg just fifteen meters away from base, but manages to crawl towards the White Army outpost. He hands the note to Colonel Dmitry Kelikenin before being dragged away to a medical tent.

Kelikenin runs toward the Artillery pit, and yells the coordinates out loud. The Artillery crews, who were watching the battle through binoculars, run towards their stations and load artillery shells. Fortunately, the mechanisms have not yet frozen due to constant heating since the end of the barrage, and the shelling starts quickly. A runner delivers another note to the Sergeant who is commanding the frontline troops.

"Danger Close, dig foxholes or stay in cover."

The White Soldiers engaged in melee retreat to cover 15 meters away from the Soviet lines, and the bombardment begins.

12:45 AM

Tashkent, Tashkent Soviet

As the Anglo-Czech forces skirmish with Soviet forces at the northern side of the city, the Mongol forces advance towards the eastern and western flanks, hoping to push the Soviets towards the British semicircle. the Mongol forces wait in the forest, until they see a flare go up from the British position. A Mongol sniper takes the first shot.

Bang.

The bullet spirals through the air, traveling 45.3 meters in less than half a second before hitting a Soviet sentry. A whistle blows, and Mongol forces begin creeping towards the Soviet lines. Meanwhile, White forces begin a radio broadcast, aimed towards the Old City, encouraging the majority Muslim population to rise up against the more Atheist Tashkent Soviet. The battle of Tashkent has officially begun.

Outpost Alpha, Trans-Aral Railway, Turkestan

A platoon of soldiers from the 3rd Rifleman Division are sleeping at a camp near the railway, when a sound wakes them up.

"What the fuck was that?" A Private asks

"Why can't I just get some fucking sleep" A Specialist complains

"Sounded like a train" A Corporal says.

The Corporal takes binoculars off of a nearby table.

"Goddamnit, why would a train be coming this early?"

"Give me that." A Specialist says, and looks through the Binoculars.

"Wait, is that a red flag? Shit! Get your weapons, we've got a hostile train coming through!"

However, the platoon realizes the true nature of the train to late, and the train gets by. The outpost sends a telegram to another checkpoint along the railway.

Outpost Beta, Trans-Aral Railway, Turkestan

The telegram operator receives the message from Outpost Alpha, and notifies the Sergeant, who is the highest-ranking officer present.

"Outpost Alpha says a Soviet Trains coming our way. They are partially armored and headed towards Tashkent, we should have about 6 minutes until the train arrives."

The Sergeant thinks for a moment.

"Alright, tell them we're going to derail the train."

"Derail it? But-"

"I'm fairly sure I'm speaking your language, Private. Tell them we will derail the train"

"Yes, Sergeant. But at least tell me why."

"We have no heavy equipment, it's the only way we can stop the train, and Tashkent must be taken."

The Sergeant leaves the tent, and calls his men over.

"Okay. We have a Red train coming in... about 4 minutes. I want you guys to pile any debris you can find on that track. And before anyone asks, yes, I know it will render the track unusable for a while. Now go."

One of the soldiers stands up.

"But there's a lot of old equipment left here used to build the railway. Couldn't we just use hammers to bend the track?"

"Good idea Private First Class."

"But I'm just a private?"

"You're a PFC now, kid"

The soldiers begin hammering the side of one of the tracks, bending the metal inwards. By the time they see the train in the distance and stop, they've changed the tracks route by about 10 inches.
