Musa/Moses/Moshe/M-S is an exceptionally common root stem in ancient Egyptian, one often used by New Kingdom pharoahs.

In hieroglyphs M-S looks like this (in left to right order) ImageImage, and forms the stem of words related to birth and childhood (note that Ancient Egyptian, unlike more modern Semitic languages like Arabic, had biconsonantal roots as well as triconsonantal roots). So 'Thutmose' is more accurately ḏḥwtj-ms, or 'Thoth is born', while 'Ramesses' is 'Ra-ms', or 'Ra is born'. So Musa's name is most likely a common Egyptian root stem frequently used in Egyptian names, and meaning 'one who is born' or 'child'.

So not exactly Moses, just a similar name.

I have done some research. And my observations tell me. Google needs to be updated. The fonts look too boring. I couldnt continue. So instead, I watched some Spongebob.

Idk how this is relevant

Well anyways. I got a question of my own. Mainly targeted towards non-Muslims, but Muslim answers are appreciated as well. Does Islam need reformation?

We do and we always will.

Borderlands of Rojava wrote:Yes. It can start with having mix-gender prayer with both men and women sitting together and praying.

Okay sure.

Borderlands of Rojava wrote:Also I think Islam should accept gay people at least a little more.

NO.

Why would we pray in some foreign language? Besides Arabic for obvious reasons, that is.

And yeh, the Saudi Government, aint gonna last that long. Salafism will continue. And it will have strong roots. Salafism, having good grasps on culture and a great load of hadith and verses to back their ideas. Salafi Wahhabism, will grow weaker. But it will also continue living. As for Salafi Jihadism, damn idk. Bad people will always be there. So I cant say anything abt that. Khawarijs will always continue spreading chaos in the name of Islam. And these Khawarijs are just going to increase near the end of the days.

To be honest, even if the Saudi government were to fall tomorrow, Wahhabism would still continue to persist for some time. It will eventually fade into obscurity in some hundreds of years, just like all the deviant sects throughout the history of Islam, but it will not happen overnight. They are simply too prominent to just disappear, even if their funding is cut from them. Right now, they are at the forefront of the internet (Islamqa.info) and they are at the forefront of publishing (Darussalam).

Also, the fact of the mater is that their influence is so destructive that we will continue to feel their effects long after they are gone. Their legacy of destroying masjids and desecrating the graves and monuments dedicated to righteous people will be difficult to undo. Not to mention that they have stolen and burnt the books of Imam Malik and Ibn Hajar, and other books of tassawuf and salawat. It is good that at least we have the internet now, so that these books can be preserved from these jahil book burners.

Also, you mention some hadith mentioning the Khawarij and such people. Personally speaking, there is one saying which I believe is very important, which is the following:
Sahih Muslim 2564 wrote:Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Do not envy each other, do not outbid each other, do not hate each other, do not turn away from each other, and do not outsell each other. Rather, be servants of Allah as brothers. The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not wrong him, nor humiliate him, nor look down upon him. Righteousness is here,” and he pointed to his chest three times. The Prophet said, “It is enough evil for a man to look down upon his Muslim brother. The entirety of the Muslim is sacred to another Muslim: his life, his wealth, and his reputation.”

And if you look at the behavior of these people, you will clearly find that they sorely lack many of these characteristics. It is plainly clear that they do not value the life of any other Muslim; see their actions in Yemen and their own fatwas where they have taken it upon themselves to legalize the killing of even women and children. They look down upon all other Muslims, and consider themselves superior by the virtue of the fact that they "don't blindly follow a madhab" (ignoring the fact that they themselves are more than happy to blindly follow their own scholars). And they also clearly do not care about the reputation of other Muslims, and are happy to accuse them of shirk, grave worship, practicing sihr, and other such nonsense.

I couldnt agree more. I like your posts very much.

Switching around the topic a bit, leaving Khawarijites and onto the haters.

Well, it makes sense that Islam is the most hated religion. It wouldnt make any sense if everyone was so accepting towards it. Ex-Muslims should be growing powerful, and they should be attacking us. Surprisingly, every time I hear an insult towards Islam or Prophet Muhammad or towards us in general. I feel my faith grow stronger. Everytime I get pounded on the internet I get suicidal, but Im all better in a while, with a renewed faith and get back onto the internet to argue with some other people. (Dont know why i keep going back). Apostasy will increase, its imminent. Islam will grow weak. And it will be hated more than ever. All because it was meant to be. We might not like it, but its what it is.

Im confused. You said "sure" to mixed gender prayers. But a bold "No" to gays. Mixed gender can distract us from prayer, but accepting gays isnt going to harm any muslims or anything.

Mixed gender prayers is weird and I dunno how badly it will be received among the general population, but for me personally, that's just it. Weird. I'd prefer separated genders in the prayer room, but I don't think that concept is bad enough to riot about.

However, there is right and there is wrong. It's that simple. Tolerating evil through inaction is a sin in itself.

Well. Gays are sin. Not evil. As long as they arent trying to change how we practice, they are fine. The same way non-Muslims are treated. Islam doesnt change with time, but how we live and implement it does. Gays must be treated the same way that of a Christian or Jew (whom have not done any crimes or tried to lead astray a Muslim). If a gay happens to be Muslim. All we can do, is advice. Takfir has become a dangerous weapon today, and there has been fatwas to abolish it. I personally adhere with the Amman Message. The Amman Message is the path towards a greater Muslim World. Hence takfir is haram, due to its dangers. And if a gay is to be gay while staying Muslim, then thats on him. :)

There are a few famous hadith on this matter, actually. I'm sure most of you guys are aware of them, but for the benefit of those who are not:
Sahih Muslim 145 wrote:Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Islam began as a something strange and it will return to being strange, so blessed are the strangers.”

Musnad Ahmad 6612 wrote:Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “We are now in this day. Blessed are the strangers.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the strangers?” The Prophet said, “Righteous people among many evil people. Those who disobey them are more numerous than those who obey them.”
Ibn Taymiyyah - Majmu al-Fatawa 4/186 wrote:Insulting, slandering, and being aggressive during a discussion are tricks of those who are weak
and a commodity of those who are bankrupt (in knowledge). Verily, refutations based upon insults
and intimidation, everyone has the capability of doing that.

Ah, I guess I wasn't clear. Tolerating gay people, as in, the individual, is understandable. What I'm opposed to is tolerating homosexuality itself, as in, the sin, not the person, you feeling me?

Why would we treat homosexuals as though they are not Muslims? If a homosexual takes the shahada and becomes Muslim, we should treat him as a Muslim. Fundamentally speaking, homosexuality does not nullify one's Islam. If a man has lewd thoughts about other men, or some inherent desire for men, he is still a Muslim because we are not held accountable for our thoughts; rather we are held accountable for our actions and the intentions behind our actions. Similarly, even if a person engages in liwat or some similar form of sexual deviancy, they would be a fasiq, but they are still a Muslim because sins do not take a person out of Islam. The only case where someone's Islam would be called into question on this matter is if they reject that committing homosexual acts is a sin, because then they are denying something which is explicit in the Quran.

I perhaps haven't made myself clear. What we transcribe as 'Moses' (and similar) in English is a common Ancient Egyptian name stem. The examples I offered weren't so much 'similar' names, but rather a couple of examples of how names were constructed on the same stem. It's just that there's no deity added as a prefix in the case of the person we refer to as Musa / Moses / Moshe (depending on our faith traditions). After all, we can hardly expect a prophet of the One True God to put 'Thoth' in front of his name, can we?

I perhaps haven't made myself clear. What we transcribe as 'Moses' (and similar) in English is a common Ancient Egyptian name stem. The examples I offered weren't so much 'similar' names, but rather a couple of examples of how names were constructed on the same stem. It's just that there's no deity added as a prefix in the case of the person we refer to as Musa / Moses / Moshe (depending on our faith traditions). After all, we can hardly expect a prophet of the One True God to put 'Thoth' in front of his name, can we?

I might caught that wrong (Thoth without h after the last t), but thanks for that, Arch. I really need the laugh :p

Lmao. Might as well. :D

I havent really seen any Muslim girls here. So just wondering whether there are any. Because it seems NS in general has a considerable amount of girls. No reason to believe there arent any among us Muslims.

(Well Brughen is there, but its different since I invited her)

Well, there are, but just like the poll on the top of the thread, not many are active in NSG. If you want to meet a Muslim player, visible Muslim regions should be your first choice.

Lmao

On the question, "Inshallah" is just an expression used to say that something will happen in the future 'if God wills it'. So it's....vague actually. You can mean that it will happen or not.

There are times when we use that as a polite 'no', so it depends on the context or people's interpretation I suppose :p

Personally, I think that means Biden insinuated that Trump is not going to do it.

That's interesting. Thank you for sharing.

Actually, I laughed hard when this happened. Not only does he use the expression, he uses it in the colloquial sense as Darussalam pointed out, as a way to say "no".

Wanna talk about a hypothetical scenario where Geert Wikders, Marine Le Pen, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson and someone from the AfD comes to power all at the same time?

Yes. I know. It'd be nightmare. But lets ponder upon that.

(Also; it seems Im the manager of this thread now. :lol2: )

Geert Wikder's party is a bastion of anti immigrant racism. It isnt even just Muslims, Wikders and his people aren't fans of basically any immigrants except for some token ones from the countries immediately surrounding Holland.

Geert Wilders is gaining popularity in Netherlands. He might just gain power some day. I'd feel sorry for my fellow Muslims there. Specifically, the sisters. You dont need to read much of his tweets, to know that he hates Muslim women somewhat more. And not to mention associating little kids with ISIS. And when some guy criticises him and accuses him of Islamophobia, theres always the Ex-Muslim guy beside him trying to justify his comments. And then theres the AfD. They also target Muslim women. I dont get it. I just dont. Why dont they target us. Why dont they target men. We are more aggressive and violent then the women after all. Why go chasing after a piece of cloth on their heads. And then theres the weird hatred towards Moroccans. Damn, next to Geert Wilders, even Trump looks like a good guy.
