It's time to reveal the results of the very first Carrelie Melodifestival! 11 artists have graced the stage here in Kraków tonight, but only one can go to Worldvision! It's time to find out which country takes home the lovely star trophy!

So without further ado, let's go to Kraków, where they're revealing the jury votes!

Marien Lochnette: "We'd like to thank our international juries tonight from Elejamie, Waisnor, Malta Comino Gozo and Kalosia, as well as our very own domestic jury! Let's begin with the voting!"

"And it's also time to see how you all at home voted! That's right, it's the international televote! These will be revealed in reverse running order, meaning that Sorechlandt's will be revealed first, then Anerbrawf, and so on until we get to Douria!"
"Et il est aussi temps de voir comment vous avez tous voté à la maison ! C'est vrai, c'est le télévote international ! Ceux-ci seront dévoilés dans l'ordre inverse, c'est-à-dire que Pays-Doloure sera dévoilé en premier, puis Pays-Nortes, et ainsi de suite jusqu'à Dourie! Commençons!"

T O B U F O R C O M M I T T E E

Intro

Hello everyone, I'm Tobu, or Tod, or whatever keyboard smash approximation you like :P
I've been participating since WorldVision 27, and over my time here I've hosted 3 times (36, 63, 89) and have been involved in running all the special editions so far (arranged the first one with Ekoz in IRC chat, co-hosted the second with Polkopia, and ran/currently running the last two as part of the WVC). So yeah, I've a lot of experience running things over the years, but at the same time, it certainly can be exhausting. Thus, I see my role here now mostly as a mentor figure, making sure that everyone on the WVC is on the same page with how the contest runs, and helping new members get familiar with the role and the responsibilities, along with doing any work that needs to be done or announced (with priority on the OOC thread), and ensuring that both WV and the Committee remain accessible and approachable.

Stances

I am open to new ideas and discussing them, using my experience and observations to figure out if a new idea will work, and how that would impact the contest. I'm generally of the viewpoint that people are just here to have a good time, to relax and express their creativity, and so I am wary of harsh rules and punishments, for example disqualifying and banning someone for voting 1 minute late (which did happen in a previous contest: WV48). I am also wary of attempts to eliminate whole branches of the community- I really do not see the need for that. Even if we have clashes in personalities and such, we can still all enjoy WorldVision, and save the drastic action for any specific community member that does prove to be toxic.

As for televote, I'm open to changes in how it is calculated, but I do think that the televote in general is here to stay. It adds an exciting, if sometimes nervewracking, element to the contest, and with the host being able to choose how fast or slow they'd like to release the results, and the host having the freedom to view and calculate the final breakdown, I do think that this is a sustainable element of the contest that can continue on to the future. Previously I did have reservations on its sustainability due to the extra workload on hosts, but at this point we have enough precedents on both ends of the workload spectrum, where hosts can choose what works best for them.

Closing Words

Working with Malta Comino Gozo, Beepee, Nekoni, and Ethane this past term was an excellent experience and I would love to work with them again. While I did find myself taking the primary lead on some things such as Retrovision in the month of May as people became tied up with real-life commitments, overall I greatly enjoyed working with the mix of talent and energy that each person brought to the table, and I do feel like this has been one of the best WVCs that I have been on, and that things have come to progress nicely.

Thanks for reading and considering my candidacy, and here's to an exciting next 5 editions of WorldVision!

Soon we'll be at WV100 :!:

Bid for Committee

Postby Scotatrova » Mon Jun 07, 2021 12:40 am

Hey all, giving this a shot again. For those of you unfamiliar, I am Scotatrova, more commonly referred to as Scot. I debuted back in WV72 and have been participating since, spare a few missed contests. I hosted the WorldVision Teams special edition, and won back in WV86, both of which were fun experiences. I would just like to reiterate a few points I had made before in my previous bid.

Even though I've competed in 16 of the last 19 editions I've been here, I still consider myself apart of the newer generation of nations that have debuted in recent contests. With that, I feel I can offer a fresher, newer prospective on the committee compared to the older batch of participants. Not saying that their opinions or anything of the sort are "outdated", but having newer members of the community on the committee could possibly help encourage future arrivals to throw their hat in the ring if they so wish to. I would also personally see to making sure that the OP is continuously updated when it needs to be, something I became accustomed to whenever I was the OP of larger RPs. Another thing that I would uphold is the opportunity for all members of the community to enjoy this wonderful contest. The community can be just as wonderful and friendly, though there are moments where there are tiffs. Overall this community comes together over our mutual love for music and our creativity when it comes to entries, and thus I would ensure that this would continue.

But that's about it from me! Hope those of you reading liked what you see and toss a vote my way! Good luck to everyone else participating.

I'm entering. Both the contest AND the Committee elections.

One of the forgotten aspects of running contests like this has always been what's going on under the hood. I know that I've spent the last five contests quietly in the background. I didn't even ENTER two of them, but the entire team can vouch for me always being in the engine room of the contest, building the televote framework, making tons of small quality of life changes to the sheets to make it so, so much easier to work with than it was when we first started. And I believe I can do more.

I think what made the incumbent Committee work as well as it did was that everyone in the Committee had a specific role. Whilst the others were more in the fields of front-of-house, liaising with the community, I was in the engine room, twatting things with a metaphorical hammer to make sure it all worked fine. And, despite dealing with a few bumps in the road along the way, it did, and in terms of how it was ran behind-the-scenes, I'd argue that WV90 was one of the smoothest contests I've seen. I guess what you can say is that I actively enjoy working with all the tech stuff, recording the data, ensuring my work is shipshape, and I really want to keep doing it. I wouldn't be throwing my hat in the ring if I wouldn't. But, the only way I can get that is on your vote.

For the bigger picture, I don't know why we're talking about the televote, still, it's been over a year and the referendum calling for its removal was pretty soundly beaten when it was introduced. I didn't like that decision at the time, but c'est la vie, it happened and that's that. I don't know who is bringing the discussion back on the table, but I think they're a bit late for it. This is the first I've heard about regarding an alternative discord server, and to be honest, I hope it's the last. Tribalism doesn't work in communities. Also, whilst 'elitism' is a bit of a weighted term in the regard of behaviour in Discord, I do think there should be a bit more care from everyone in how they're coming across online in general. Some people new to this place won't get how the Discord feels and the 'banter' that may be well-known to some might feel unnecessarily pointed to others. I feel that getting formal Committee action on it and publicly telling people (most of whom are adults) how to behave looks overly patronising and cause more problems than it saves, though. I hate the idea of tone policing, but I do believe that if we took a little bit of time to think about how we're coming across it's going to be better for everyone.

All in all, I think the last few contests have been a steady ship, as far as everything's concerned. I will give my thanks to Tobu, Ethane, Malta and Beepee for their work during the last few contests. Despite being mentally at my worst for a while, you've handled the contest (and me!) excellently, and although not all of you are going to be re-applying, I hope those of you that go for it get the nod, and I wish that the community wish to let me join you too. I'd like to try to be more active in the public eye as well if I'm allowed to be, and I think that I've proved that I'm capable of doing it.

Thank you for listening. Good luck to everyone else in the vote!

Oh man. Oh man, oh man. Not again.

Postby Elejamie » Mon Jun 07, 2021 8:03 am

Hello, I'm Elejamie. Or Ele or EJM. Or Placely Placington and its many misspellings and shortened versions. Or whatever you want to call me. And I'm deciding to once again run for Committee. Yes, I know I said I wouldn't, given that barring one or two moments I was overall quite pleased with the outgoing one, but there's a good reason for me changing my mind: There doesn't seem to be that many people running so I figured I might as well make it competitive. Silly reason I'd admit but given how everyone's either burnt out from the real life Eurovision or a bit too busy with other stuff, it's better than no reason at all. Fortunately, unlike last time, I do have a few actual policies and ideas in mind so don't worry I'm not planning on a "three wins and you're out for a bit" thing any time soon, even if what I have in mind is more fixing and improving things as opposed to bringing anything new to the table:

1. COMMUNICATION

One of the biggest upsides to this outgoing Committee was that there was a lot more conversation between Discord and the forums. Major changes were mentioned on the forums and linked to on the Discord and we had linked Google Forms so anyone who wasn't on the Discord could still share ideas and take part in proposals. And I quite enjoyed it, as everything was moving quite smoothly. But, as I've said, there was a bit of a slip-up with the whole thing re Mister X at the end of WV87, where it was revealed that he was supposedly tactically televoting and thus he had to be disqualified from the competition and banned for the following one. And I wasn't exactly pleased with it.

It's not the fact that Mister X got booted from the competition that upsetted me. I may be one of the few people that he undoubtedly gets along with but if there was conclusive enough evidence to confirm that he was tactically voting then I would've been in favour for it as much as it would've hurted me. Insert crying Wesley Snipes here. But that's not what happened. Mister X wasn't contacted in any way so he couldn't explain himself or change his more egregious votes (with the excuse being that it was so close to the end of the jury vote that there was apparently no point to it), the evidence in question wasn't really shared with us and we didn't even know how many were in favour (I'm fine with who voted for or against banning him still being confidential as that's no one's business but all the parties involved but rather whether it was 5-0 or 4-1 given that it was apparently a unanimous decision). We were just told that this happened, he had to find out for himself and that was it, along with the uproar that ensued. As much as I respect the outgoing Committee (three of them are good friends of mine and another I haven't spoken to much but I still think he's a sound bloke), this doesn't exactly present anyone in a good light.

So what do I propose? Once everyone agrees to something, then continuing to announce proposed changes on the forums would be a good place to start. Whether it be a temporary change or a permanent one, it's still best to let those who aren't on the Discord, are unable to get onto it for one reason or another or just don't want to get it full stop to provide their two cents. Secondly, if anyone's broken any rules then I will let them know as soon as possible. I don't care how what time it is and I don't care what the violation is, they should still be alerted. We either do it right or we don't do it at all. And thirdly if there are any issues arising, such as the wrong thing being linked or someone giving 15+ votes to a single different nation then I'll also get in touch with them so they can fix the problem.

2. KEEPING THE PEACE

As I've mentioned in my last manifesto, I'm lawful neutral. I don't care what arguments everyone has. And sure, admittedly I have flown off the handle a number of times, sometimes for probably valid reasons but blown out of proportion (i.e. the Screwjob) and sometimes for absolutely dumb reasons (i.e. my endless gripes with 360° stages). And I sincerely apologise for that and I'm not going to come up with any excuses for it, since there aren't any. But I'm willing to put aside all of my issues and complaints and instead just concentrate on making a fun competition for everyone. And I strongly urge that everyone else does the same, just so we don't have to worry about fears of supposed "elitism" or "favouritism".

So if there are any massive slanging matches that flare up, expect me to crack down on it. A bit of debate and banter can be healthy and should be encouraged; after all I'm not expecting everyone and everything to be super serious all the time especially since I'm not either. Even disagreements should be allowed because, naturally, there are things we like and dislike and it's best to get any concerns out in the open just as long as you are calm and considerate when you post it. But if there's any flat-out vitriol, power abuse or worse there's any actual bullying going on, expect me to do my best to put a stop to it. I don't care if you're a big nation, one of my friends or even if you're a newcomer (although I'll be a lot nicer going about it if you're the last one), if you do mess up you SHOULD be held accountable for it and I WILL make sure of it. So expect things such as private words, massive posts to tell people to calm down and, for egregious cases and if any fellow Committee members are in favour of it, outright kicks and bans from either the competition itself or, should the server owner (Kalosia) be in favour, the IBA Discord itself. Again, that's the nuclear option and should only be reserved for the absolute worst of cases.

3. REGULAR UPDATES

This won't receive a lot of commentary so I'll just explain it in the one paragraph. Basically, I'll update the OP a lot more. Either every day around a certain time or after a certain period of time, I will edit the original post to add all of the signed-up nations, all of the NFs, all of the manifestos if it's time for another election and, yes if I have the time, I'll even include the IC artist and song names for each nation. Even if I don't do that last one, it's still important that the first three are added so it looks like we're organised and on top of things. Furthermore, I will also post regular reminders for deadlines just so everyone's aware of how much time they have before things close. Because, as we all know, no one really likes to miss out on things and since I'm usually not that busy I won't mind being the one giving people a small nudge.

And that should be your lot. Not really much of a manifesto I will admit, especially since there's less of a motivation for me to run this time compared to the last one. But I still hope that these are some valid points that are worth considering. If there are any questions, feel free to reach out to me and I'll try to answer them to the best of my abilities. Until then or until the Q&A thing then take care, thanks for reading. Good luck to everyone else. OK, bye.

The voting for Host-Bids and Committee Members is now open! You have a week, until 14, June, 20:00 BST to vote.

As long as you have signed up before the bid deadline, you can vote for both Host-Bids and Committee (for Committee, you must also have completed participation in a prior WV).

Please send your votes via TG to the WorldVision Committee account! Host results for the RetroVision special up in a bit, too.

HOST VOTING

Host voting has begun! Please TG your votes to the WorldVision Committee, preferably on the same TG as your committee election votes. As always, 12 points go to your favourite, 10 for your second, and 8 for your third.

The three bids we have this edition are:

Haufenburg, Carrelie | "Celebrate Music!"

Baspink, Hafamarimët | "Oh We Could Definitely Do That"

Lanun Island, Antahbrantahstan | "Rise Up"

Reminder: Host bidders are not allowed to vote for their own bid.

COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

Committee Elections have commenced! We have changed since the last election to an average rank system, so please rank all of your candidates and send it to the WorldVision Committee, preferably on the same TG as your host votes. You can not vote for yourself in the committee elections, however if you are a candidate, you can still rank all the other candidates (and this will not affect your average). The five lowest average ranks will be selected for the Committee, and will serve for the next five contests.

There are six users looking to fill five spots, and they are:

Again, rank your candidates in order from favorite to least favorite and send via TG:

Code: Select all
1. Favourite
2. Second best
3. Third best, and so on...
4.
5.
6. (don't include the 6th one if you're a candidate)

Sign-ups for WorldVision 91 remain open until the announcement of the host and new committee in a week's time.
Good luck to all bidders and committee candidates!

Just so you know, I've decided to extend the deadline for votes in my NF due to the lack of them, so you now have until June 11 to listen to the tunes of my NF and vote in it!

Committee Elections Q&A Session

Hi, Ethane here! I'm running this as I am ineligible to stand again for committee this edition. Apologies for the delay in getting this up, but if people would still find some value in asking questions of the nations running to be WVC committee members, we are once again providing an anonymous mechanism for asking these questions. Recognising this is the voting period, you will be able to submit questions up to Thursday 10th June, 20:00 BST, and I will then post the questions on the thread later that evening. If candidates want to answer the questions, they must do so on the OOC thread, but also bear in mind that this is entirely optional; as a candidate you do not need to answer any of the questions put to you, you can answer only some, or all - the choice is yours. Please see below for the google form where you can anonymously submit your questions:

IT'S TIME FOR THE FM2GETHER RESULTS!

Despite the lower amount of votes in the Flavezztowlander national final for WV91, FM2gether, when compared to previous Flavezztowlander national finals, some appreciation still goes to the Elejamian jury for sending in their votes in it  ! Now, without further ado, let's get to the 2nd-to-9th-places of this NF's results!...
2) "Sleepless in Talvezout (feat. T-Step)" by Dana LeMaitre (4 pts)
3) "Speak Up" by The Modal Ensemble (3 pts)
4) "Polyphony" by Bakershop (2 pts)
5) "We Are One" by Noah Dupont (1 pt)
6-9) (all the other songs in this NF except one) (nul points)

Now, let's get onto the winning entry of this NF, the one that'll be performed for Rhim Flavezztowland at WV91. It's...
"Kingdom" by Ruslan!

Once again, while the amount of nations voting here may have been extremely low, thanks to Elejamie for voting in this NF, and expect a full Flavezztowlander participation in WV91 :p !

Candidate Questions

Postby WorldVision Committee » Sat Jun 12, 2021 9:35 am

Hey guys, Ethane here! Here's the questions that people have for the committee candidates. Answering these questions is preferable but optional - you can answer as many or few questions as you want. Just remember that voting closes relatively soon, so getting the answers in sooner is better if you are going to respond.

General Questions

(1) Some editions of the WorldVision Song Contest have been too big. What would you do to solve this problem in the future (for example, Semi-Finals at a certain threshold). How would your idea be implemented?

(2) What ideas do you have to improve the image of the contest and make it more open to new nations? What is the first thing you'd like to change or rectify on committee?

(3) Should people be allowed to bid when they first participate?

(4) There is no theme tune for WorldVision Song Contest. Can we hold a vote to adopt one, and choose a song?

(5) What is your opinion on people voting or signing up late very close to the deadline (like a few minutes)?

(6) Should there be a restriction on how often a nation bids?

(7) If there were no host bids, what should the procedure be, and would you be willing to step in to host?

User-Specific Questions

Caryton - You said "I will put my full two cents in if that branch of the community isn't already gone." What does this mean, and what does this alternative Discord server have to do with anything? Surely the WVC has no power to regulate that, even if there is an alternative Discord server?

Tod - Do you think the calculation of the televote is okay, or do you see some flaws in it?

Elejamie - "massive posts to tell people to calm down" - In a fast paced heated conversation, do you really thin that this would be an effective way of keeping the peace when most people wouldn't bother reading a huge paragraph in the first place?

Malta - Do you think you are fulfilling your role both on the Committee and the IBA Board to the best of your ability?

Scotatrova - Do you think the competition has a problem with encouraging new people to join. How would you like to see change in this area?

Nekoni - What is the worst and best thing that has happened during the most recent committee tenure for you? What have you enjoyed and not enjoyed? What will your focus be in this committee tenure, if elected?

(3) I do think a one contest gap between participating and hosting should be in effect as hosting is a big job and it would be unfortunate for a new nation to host and get overwhelmed and bail. Allowing a one gap window would give the country a chance to put together as much resource and bid next time as they need to understand the deadlines involved and work needed to host

(4) Yes this is a great idea!

(5) Signing up late is not a problem, voting late is. A player voting late very close to the deadline can put more pressure on the host who needs to provide scoreboards and this also affects the televote the WVC has to verify and also send to the host. Voting late could also allow people to tactically vote. We have soft/hard deadline in place but out of respect people should really try to vote on time

(6) Nope

(7) Either a WVC member can either solo host it or as committee group host one does graphics one does interval acts etc

Do you think you are fulfilling your role both on the Committee and the IBA Board to the best of your ability? Committee yes IBA no, sadly I don't think I have the time for my role within the Cultural aspect because of my work and current WVC.
