WORLDVISION MISSIVE - SPECIAL EDITION

Contest Thread

Are you wondering what WorldVision is? Here is the current edition: WorldVision 91 OOC

Over the last few months, we have been drawing up plans for what Special Edition the WorldVision community would like to see and the results are officially in. Of the 24 votes given, we have a clear top 2 for the choice of edition, and despite the decent stack of 17 votes of agreement for the Secret Santa special, 22/24 have plumped for the first ever RetroVision Song Contest!

Now, we also decided to ask how you'd like to see said RetroVision done, and there was a clear winner there as well, with the 1980s taking a clear preference with 17 of the 24 voters opting for it. Therefore, this means that this Special Edition shall be...

1980s RETROVISION!!

Yes, we toyed with the concept back in WorldVision 80, but the spirit of the 80s will be in full force in our special edition contest! There are, of course, some things of note to include in this:

- For the hosting, it shall be open to any nation that has successfully taken part in at least ONE WorldVision Song Contest. Please post your bids here, you have just under a week (until Monday 31st May) to complete a bid to host.

- For what actually classes as an entry, the WV Committee will take an inclusive approach, in that entries that use base songs outside of the 1980-1989 year boundary will be allowed if they are done in the spirit of the sounds of the 1980s. This will be done on a case-by-case basis, and as with the orchestral versions of the World Hit Festival, any entrants unsure of their entry's suitability may send the Committee their idea to see if it sufficiently fits the criteria. Naturally, any song specifically released within the boundaries of 1980 and 1989 will be accepted without further qualification.

- The use of an orchestra, as in the style of 1980s Eurovision Song Contests will not be mandatory, and their inclusion will be dependent on the host nation.

IMPORTANT DATES
Special Edition Host Voting Open - 31st May, 20:00 BST
Sign Ups Close; Host Voting Close, IC Thread Up - 7th June, 20:00 BST
Deadline for Entries; Voting Begins - 14th June, 20:00 BST
Voting Closes - 21st June, 20:00 BST

As always, the WorldVision Community wishes you all good luck with turning back the clock, and bonne chance!

Okay the Alezian Union is in

SURPRISE! SURPRISE ALMA TIME!

Hello! I need you guys' help again! I got four songs from FLPI 1987 plus one Eurovision 1986 I want to send, but I can obviously only send one. Before we start with the songs, I have to give you guys the itinerary:
1. Since there are five songs, voting will be done Eurovision style, from 12 for the best, down to 10, 8, 7, and 6 for the least favorite
2. Voting must be sent before next week (4th of June 2021) at 17:00 WITA / GMT + 8 (9:00 GMT)

Oh yeah, you can send your votes through discord (Lez#0535) or through Telegram!

Okay, we got that in, now for the songs! (sorry for the minimal graphics, there are a lot of things to do in NS lately.)

pls thank kal for doing the graphics & helping me with this bid

NOTE
This will take place in an alternate universe (AU) where every country in the modern age exists but has 1980s technology (i.e. simple camera systems & stage effects). You still have full control over your entry within reason, however.

SYDNEY

Sydney is the capital city and largest city in Amuaplye, having a population of over 3.5 million people. Being Amuaplye's cultural center, it hosts a wide variety of cultures and traditions mingling and mixing together. Compared to the rest of the country, Sydney is leagues cooler, with mild winters and warm summers. The temperature barely varies throughout the year due to its proximity to the ocean.

Alongside the Opera House and the nearby bridge, the jewels in Sydney's crown, there's also the Royal Botanic Gardens which isn't very far away from either of them. Built in 1816, it is considered to be one of the oldest scientific endeavors in Amuaplye and one of the biggest gardens in the world.

Sydney is also known for its large, expansive beaches, some of the most famous in the world, like the Bondi, Coogee, Cronulla, and Manly beaches. Bondi Beach alone has 1 million visitors a year.

Another major attraction is Sydney's expansive metro network, which spans almost the entirety of the city. Now run via the Sydney Monorail, its state-of-the-art look has put it decades ahead of any other metro network worldwide.

Image

ACCOMMODATIONS

Image

The 5-star Shangri-La Hotel will be the main place of accommodation for Retrovision's performers. It boasts a beautiful view of the Sydney Harbor, a spa, a massive indoor pool, and great service. It has 564 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a ballroom, and a bar.

Travel-wise, the Sydney metro is the transportation of choice. Fast, efficient, and expansive, it does the job better than a taxi or a walk ever would. Sydney's airport will be used for all travel, boats above a certain size (i.e. anything bigger than a fishing boat) are not allowed in most of Sydney's quays due to local ordinances.

VENUE

The illustrious Sydney Opera House will be the venue of choice tonight. The biggest tourist attraction in the entirety of Amuaplye, it serves as the best choice for Amuaplye's bid. The building is fairy small, however, with a seating capacity of only 2,750 people. It fits a full orchestra if needed.

The stage has a staircase in the back & is designed to be very complex. You can stand in pretty much any area & face the audience & the camera angles should be easy to pull off.

See the stage in action!

HOSTS

Image
Image

Brian Denison is an Amuaplyean television personality and radio DJ, well known for his television show "Music Today", where he showcases the biggest artists in Amuaplye currently. The show has been on the air for nearly 15 years.

June Pickford is a singer and songwriter well-known for her song "Remember" in 1967. Having released 4 other hits in the time since, she has faded into the limelight slightly since her last hit in 1976.

Hell with it, Impromptu 80s ElejamieVision Thing. Unlike last time, this'll be jury only and there will only be one winner due to the whole one-off nature of this contest. Your five songs for your consideration are...

  1. Antonio Cisneros - Forever
(Ultravox - Vienna, 1980 but released as a single in 1981)
  2. Redheads - When Will You See Her Again?
(Real Life - Send Me An Angel, 1989 version)
  3. Saturday Morning - Go
    (Tool & Die - Eyes, 1987)
  4. Alan Merini - From Below
(Unknown Artist - Fond My Mind, possibly 80s*)
  5. Ego - Return to Dust
(A Different Unknown Artist - The Fallen King, 1987 latest*)

Playlist here. Unlike my usual fare, there is no intro and unfitting outro, which is why it'll be linked to for once.

As always, 5 points to your favourite, 4 for your second favourite, so on until you give 1 point to your least favourite. Send your votes in a TG or DM them to me on Discord via elejamie#1374, where you can also let me know if none of the links are working for you (although you'll need to give me an alternative link just to make sure). Deadline will be Sunday 6th June, 2021 at 12am BST (Saturday 5th June 7pm EST). Results will be posted sometime after that. There won't be any Placely Placington songs, don't you worry.

N.B. Any song with a * in it is actually a remastered version due to the original versions being too low quality to use. Due to there being a lack of a HQ version on YouTube, Go will be presented in its fuzzy recorded-from-cassette glory.
