Officials Provide Update on Flight 3641 Crash
Quetana Airways Flight 3641 crashed in a neighborhood of Albate on Sunday, Killing 102

ALBATE - Officials have provided an update filled with extensive detail regarding the crash of Quetana Airways Flight 3641 on Sunday. According to officials, there were multiple causes that led to the crash. Complications had arisen during the aircraft's first descent towards Albate International Airport. The landing gear was still in the retracted position when the aircraft attempted its first landing. Friction marks on the runway suggested there had been some ground contact; at the runway's 1,400-metre (4,500 ft) mark, the plane's left engine is believed to have scraped the runway; at the 1,700-metre (5,500 ft) mark, the right engine made contact.

When the pilot went around, it is believed damage had already been caused to both engines from this contact, leading to engine failure after the go-around. This made it impossible for the aircraft to maintain altitude, causing it to crash during its return to the airfield. This is supported by the conversation between the aircraft and air traffic control which indicates that the aircraft was constantly losing altitude. Observers noted that the plane's backup ram air turbine (RAT) was deployed, the purpose of which is to supply power to the airplane's control systems when both engines have failed and without the auxiliary power unit (APU) running.

According to officials, pilots had ignored warnings from air traffic control about the height and speed of the aircraft on approach. At 14:30 the plane was 15 nautical miles (28 km; 17 mi) from Albate, flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,000 m) instead of the recommended 7,000 feet (2,100 m), when ATC issued its first warning to reduce altitude. Instead of descending, one of the pilots responded by saying that he was satisfied with the descent profile. When only 10 nautical miles (19 km; 12 mi) from the airport, the aircraft was at an altitude of 7,000 feet instead of 3,000 feet (910 m). ATC issued a second instruction to turn to descend. One of the pilots responded again by stating that he was satisfied and able to handle the situation, and that he was prepared for landing. The pilot reportedly had a flying experience of 18,000 flight hours.

The narrow streets and alleys comprising the area of Ridia that the plane crashed in inhibited the rescue services. Special forces of the Quetana Army and Park Rangers had set up a cordon. Video footage of the crash scene showed emergency teams trying to reach the scene amid the rubble, clouds of black smoke and flames in the background.

Residents said it is not uncommon for aircraft on final approach to pass so close to building rooftops that they "feel... we can touch it", given the proximity of the runways. Albate Airport is surrounded by urban areas on all sides save for the north side, which leads to a scenario with jets having to pass low over urban buildings before landing on one of the two runways. Officials said at least 25 houses suffered damage due to the crash.

102 people were killed after an Toring B320 passenger airliner crashed into Ridia's residential neighborhood while on approach to the airport in the central Quetana city of Albate, officials say. At least three male passengers of Quetana Airlines (QA) flight 3641 from Napani to Albate survived the crash, a health ministry spokeswoman told the Vongane Journal. Health officials said 97 passengers and crew members have died, while 5 were killed on the ground.

President Brafeo at Center of Investigation
New Evidence Places Brafeo at Verge of Guttesmara Scandal

Image
President António Brafeo

VONGANE - President António Brafeo is being investigated by the National Judiciary for possible ties to 2018's massive corruption scandal which led to the resignation of many top politicians, including Foreign Minister Reis Mantagra. It also led to an economic crisis due to unsustainable debt growth which led to a Coalition of Crown Albatross bailout, which Quetana has struggled and staggered to recover from since.

Brafeo's possible connection to the scandal, which is being investigated currently, is an authorization from Guttesmara Corporation, owned by Brafeo's brother Jorge Brafeo, to increase its ownership share of the Bank of Quetana bank from 12.6% to 20%, thereby making it the largest single shareholder. This occurred in 2017, when in 2018 Guttesmara was bought by the Bank of Quetana, which occurred following competition between the two banks; that would ultimately lead to the main shareholders going to Bank of Quetana, which created allegations of stock manipulation, specifically attempting to influence the price of Guttesmara stock through an active misinformation campaign.

It is believed by investigators that President Brafeo aided his brother's company in gaining inside material of the Bank of Quetana, which functions partially as a government entity. Funds used by Brafeo and his family in the years following the takeover of Guttesmara marked several massive transactions being traced to the takeover, including helicopter trips and luxury vacations to Sulifa, Zamastan, and Albarine.

Several officials of Guttesmara were arrested for insider trading and market manipulation, including Jorge Brafeo who was sentenced to five years but was released after serving only 6 months. President Brafeo is also being investigated for obstruction of the Judiciary investigation, as it is suspected that he altered sentencing for his brother and other political allies. Cash transactions traced back to Guttesmara also point to the involvement of other key politicians in the Social Democratic Party.

The Albatross Frontlines

May 25rd, 2021 | Alicent, Birat

The May 19th Ceasefire, passed by the CCA Security Council on the day of its namesake, has reached its sixth day in effect, and the largest rate of violations since it was passed. President Alan Meidan agreed to instate the ceasefire on terms that if peace talks broke down then conflict would resume, but so far conflict has not yet completely ceased. Today, press reporters published reports from the frontline along with video evidence, showing federal soldiers firing on rebel patrols along the frontline near Kabulh, and showing rebel soldiers firing unaimed shots at federal positions during the night in retaliation for attacks. Four artillery strikes have been recorded since the ceasefire took effect, along with one airstrike, which hit an abandoned school in the city of Alicent, killing four civilians and one valuable defected federal officer, Yosef Ademar, who was informing the rebels about federal plans and using the ceasefire for ease of passage across the frontline.

Further reports from officials inside Alicent show that at least a hundred rebel soldiers have been wounded by the constant attacks carried about by federal forces, and that at least forty-six federal soldiers have been wounded as well, with an unconfirmed number of dead. Many rebel soldiers have taken to calling the ceasefire 'The Albatross Frontline' to mock the lack of true intervention against the authoritarian regime of Meidan. The saying has been going across the frontline, which has been repeatedly shouted at news reporters hailing from foreign press departments, 'Albatross - For the Regimes of Iearth' has been used to mock the response of the security council to Meidan's crimes against humanity. So far, no press reporters have been harmed.

Humanitarian supplies shipped to Birat have met problems as well as a consequence of the ceasefire. Many federal officers, wanting to prevent support for the rebellion from growing, have been seizing humanitarian aid drops and sending them to the Capital, Argograd, to be handed out to the families of dead federal soldiers to continue cultivating support against the rebellion, and any shipments being landed by cargo plane into rebel territory have begun dwindling in number as BNAF fighters continue to divert aid flights out of Birati airspace. As a result of these measures some civilians within Rebel-held areas have begun to take up the anti-ceasefire cry, demanding it be lifted and demanding aid be sent to the rebel forces to depose Meidan. Supplies that have made it to rebel territory have been handed out by rebel servicemen to the civilians in compliance to international intentions, and those civilians who the supplies can reach (due to the measures taken by Meidan) are well cared for.

Representative Osmani has given another plea to the Security Council for the approval of foreign military intervention against Meidan, and has further pushed this by using the anti-humanitarian measures and federal ceasefire violations as supporting reasons for the cancellation of ceasefire and direct intervention against the regime.

Pieters Meets With Moreau in Tofino, Delivers Address to Congressional Hall

Image

President Lionel Pieters visited Tofino on Wednesday to meet with President Atticus Moreau of Zamastan. The two discussed bilateral relations between the New Elkland and Zamastanian governments, including the presence of Zamastanian forces helping train domestic Elkland troops, growing economic incentive, and green energy future policies.

Pieters also was invited by Speaker of the Chamber Natasha Chastain to speak in Congressional Hall, where he addressed a joint session.

"The alliance between New Elkland and Zamastan is strong," Pieters said in the address to bipartisan applause. "We work together to ensure cooperation and a prosperous world. Through our trade, exceptionalism, and partnership, we have proven that the Elkland and Zamastanian connection is enduring the world."

Pieters called on Congressional Hall to work towards labor reform, a stance which he has taken extensively in New Elkland in order to curb unemployment and income inequality.

"If we can mediate the difference in the income of a CEO who makes more in a day than his employees make in a year, then we can ensure a prosperous future for everyone. That should be our goal: empowering the normal, everyday people of our great nations."

Pieters also endorsed greater military cooperation between the two countries, as a Zamastanian naval detachment post in Courbagne has been established more than thirty years but only serves three ships at a time. Pieters proposed funds to up that number to 10. Zamastanian forces are also consistently training Elkland troops in annual drills.

Osipovgrad Report
Gora Kovalev Arrested
May 28

Image

Solnesk- Gora Kovalev, former leader of the now banned ‘Union Communist Party’ was put under house arrest in his cabin in Ledyanaya for suspected collusion with the Ledyanayan tribes in attacks on Slavic Union military outposts. He has been put on trial for numerous offenses, chief among them being treason.

The Department of Public Security (DOB) has lead this investigation and claims that Kovalev was leading communist partisan groups to assist the Ledyanayan tribes in these attacks, and has claimed to hold evidence of the involvement of numerous other prominent opponents to the Slavic government and even politicians in the Duma, none of whom have been specifically named by the DOB.

Gora Kovalev was previously exiled to the Ledyanaya region in 2016 after being ruled guilty on charges of ‘undermining the security of the state’ in a trial that remains controversial to this day, with many of the jurors being members of the Slavic Union Party and having expressed their distaste for Kovalev online before the trial.

Vozhd Matvei Pavlov has ordered the Slavic military to occupy Ledyanaya and to arrest the chiefs of the majority of tribes in the region. These orders, plus the recently passed ‘Ledyanaya Culture Act’ has led to widespread unrest throughout the region, with border control having caught several people trying to escape over the border, primarily political exiles afraid of facing a similar fate to Kovalev.

NNCNEBETIA
Nebetia Seeks Arrest of West Chanchajillan Mafia Leader

The government of Nebetia has issued a new arrest warrant for a convicted crime boss who fled prosecution abroad and then began publishing videos that allege grave crimes committed by President Brett Highland. However, the man is question is a West Chanchajillan named Sam Menendez who has been connected to involvement in organized crime, including robberies, trafficking, and murder-for-hire.

The chief public prosecutor’s office in Neregas issued the arrest warrant for Sam Menendez on Friday as he prepared to release the eighth in a series of internet videos that have each received millions of views accusing Highland of money laundering and involvement in trafficking.

NNCNEBETIA, the state news agency, said Menendez was now also suspected of involvement in a terror group in self-declared Cambria, Alecburgh.

The accusations Menendez has levelled at Highland's allies, including a former prime minister, top officials and their relatives, range from corruption and drug trafficking to assault and assassinations.

The videos have focused heavily on the interior minister, whom Menendez alleges had offered him protection and then tipped him off about impending charges, allowing him to flee abroad. Menendez, 49, began recording his videos after police raided his home in Nebetia in April and allegedly mistreated his family.

He says he now lives in Bazira.

None of the allegations have been proven and those involved have said they are innocent.

But the political scandal sparked by the videos comes at an inopportune time for Highland, who is losing ground in opinion polls because of a depreciating currency and runaway inflation.

“We have crushed criminal organizations one by one for many years,” said Highland.

“We follow criminal gang members wherever they may flee to in the world.”

Stadiums Repurposed For Cricket, Concerts, and More Following World Cup

Nearly a month following the conclusion of the World Cup, the four stadiums utilized in the tournaments are not serving football matches as the Sulifan season has concluded. However, they have been repurposed by national organizers for cricket matches as the Sulifa Cricket League (CLS) begins its tournament process. Additionally, concert organizers have purposed the stadiums for exuberant events, with Sulifan pop star Napo Ulitaan opening at Bin Khartafa Stadium in Susairah to an audience of 120,000 people.

Sulifa's national team performed exceptionally in the World Cup, having reached the quarter-finals and falling to the Zamastanian national team. Durnstaal ultimately won the World Cup.

Sports teams from around the world are also utilizing the stadiums as training facilities, such as national soccer/football teams. Their renting of the facilities is based on state of the art infrastructure that is present in the stadiums built within the last three years as prep for the World Cup.

Sulifa is hosting a series of international events that will be utilized within the stadiums in upcoming months, such as a summit of international athletes, conferences for tech expositions, and a luxury automobile showcasing.

NORA, ANDALUNI - What’s it like to be the political ray of hope for an entire region of the world? Depending on who is writing, the forty-six-year-old Zuzana Capolva, the President of Andaluni, may be called upon to save Andaluni, eastern Adula, or all of Adula—Capolva, who took office in June of 2020 and is nearly a year into her term, is often a lone political voice in a sea of demagoguery.

The commentators who anointed Capolva the savior of regional democracy celebrated her surprise victory in last year's Presidential election as a triumph of liberalism in a region that seems to have abandoned liberalism’s ideals. But it’s not liberalism that Capolva personifies—it’s politics, if one defines politics as an earnest, complicated conversation about values and shared goals.

At the start of her campaign, Capolva told me, she made two decisions: she would accept no professional “marketing” advice, and she would disengage emotionally from the outcome of the election. “People have the right to know who I am. I made an offer, and they can decide whether they accept this offer or not,” she said.

Everyone I talked to about Capolva, and Capolva herself, recounted a single, pivotal incident from early in the campaign, when she was asked publicly about her position on the adoption of childen by same-sex couples. The issue, she told me, had recently taken hold of the Andaluni imagination. Most other candidates, as far as she could observe, tried to dodge the question. Andaluni is a member of the Western Euronia Defense Alliance, but it is one of a four countries that do not allow same-sex marriage or adoption by same-sex couples, in contravention of many Adulan court decisions.

As in many Adulan countries, L.G.B.T. rights are often described in Andaluni as an agenda item foisted on a socially conservative population by meddlesome nations, often religiously conservative like staunchly Orthodox or Muslim nations. Faced with the question, Capolva responded that, while being raised by biological parents is ideal, any two loving parents, whatever their sexual orientation, are better than an orphanage. A campaign consultant might have told her that this answer would be political suicide, or so Capolva assumed. Instead, it appeared to be the start of a meteoric rise—not, it seems, because a critical mass of voters agreed with all of her positions but because her honesty and openness, and perhaps her willingness to reason in public, appealed to them.

Capolva, who used to work as an environmental lawyer, entered electoral politics during a particularly painful crisis in Andaluni. In February, 2018, a twenty-seven-year-old investigative journalist, Nate Kuciak, and his fiancée, Besnane Kušnírová, were assassinated in their house. Within a few months, investigators concluded that they were murdered because Kuciak had been digging into the business dealings of a powerful businessman, Martine Kočner. The gunman confessed, and so did an intermediary. In October of 2020, Kočner and two other men were charged with plotting the assassination; they pled not guilty.

The investigation has been accompanied by a steady stream of revelations about Kočner’s use of political connections; publicly released evidence has included recordings of his conversations with highly placed judicial officials. The effect has been demoralizing for the public, but it has also been mobilizing: mass protests that began spontaneously in reaction to the murder have continued, turning into a sustained anti-corruption movement.

“We really are at a crossroads, where we will see whether the frustration will prevail or the demands for change,” Capolva told me when I interviewed her at the Presidential palace, in Nora, last month. (She is confident enough in English to understand my questions, but, for the sake of precision, she responded in Andalunish, and a member of her staff interpreted.) She used the word “frustration” (frustrácie in Andalunish) a lot, and she views this prevailing sentiment as part of a longer process. “You can feel a sense of frustration from people who do not feel they have had a dignified life in the thirty years since November, 1989.” The Andaluni economy has done well after a slump in the late nineteen-nineties, but, on the Coalition of Crown Albatross’s Better Life Index, Andaluni ranks “below average” in health, wealth, and, most important, subjective well-being.

VUSWISTAN BROADCAST SERVICE

SYRARANTO: 2 KILLED DURING TASOULAS VICTORY CELEBRATION

Tyrnatini, Vuswistan – At least two people were killed and several others injured during celebratory gunfire in Syraranto marking President Kyraikos Tasoulas's re-election to a second term, a war monitor reported on Saturday.

The casualties resulted from celebratory shots fired randomly by Tasoulas' supporters in several areas, including the capital Covijo and the northern city of Fyauid, VBS news agency quoted the CCA-Syraranto Observatory for Human Rights as saying.

The two who died were a young man and a child in Fyauid, the observatory said.

Tasoulas was re-elected for a second four-year term with 95.1 per cent of the ballots in the election in government-held areas and dismissed by the opposition as a sham.

Three contenders, including Tasoulas, ran in Wednesday's polls, Syraranto's first election since the country's civil war started in early 2020.

Tasoulas, 67, has ruled Syria since 2017.

A ceasefire in the civil war has been in place since late March 2021, which has remained largely stable.

JUSTICE BENN BURGESS PASSES AWAY

Image
The longest serving Supreme Court Justice, Hon. Benn Burgess, has passed away at the age of 91

TOFINO - The eldest and longest-serving Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Benn Burgess, has passed away at the age of 91. He passed away at his home in Tofino. Justice Burgess, whose transformative legal theories, vivid writing and outsize personality made him a leader of a liberal intellectual renaissance in his nearly 4 decades on the Supreme Court, was found dead on Saturday at his home.

“He was an extraordinary individual and jurist, admired and treasured by his colleagues,” Chief Justice Roosevelt Dunn said in a statement confirming Justice Burgess' death. “His passing is a great loss to the Court and the country he so loyally served.”

The cause of death was not immediately released. A spokeswoman for the Zamastanian Rangers Service, which sent personnel to the scene, said there was nothing to indicate the death was the result of anything other than natural causes.

Burgess was appointed to the court on October 23rd, 1981, meaning he served for 39 years and 218 days.

Justice Burgess began his service on the court as an outsider known for caustic dissents that alienated even potential allies. But his theories, initially viewed as idiosyncratic, gradually took hold, and not only on the right and not only in the courts.

One of the few liberal leaning judges on the court, having been appointed by President Aiden Avery, he began his tenure on a leaned conservative ideology. He quickly emerged in an ideal of liberalism in the wake of decisions surrounding marijuana and abortion in Zamastan, as well as the increased packing of the court under President Cassious Castovia, a staunch economic conservative but social liberal.

Burgess, ultimately though, was a moderate on the divisive court. The only remaining member of the court to predate the Cassious Castovia administration, he was widely believed to be the proponent for the next Chief Justice, but upon the passing of Percy Gardnerson in 1999, Castovia appointed Roosevelt Dunn instead.

Burgess was the deciding voice for many developmental and decisive cases in Zamastanian history, most recently in the consequential Bettencourt v. Government of Zamastan in which he helped co-author the majority opinion.

He was, Judge Benjamin Posner wrote in The New Journal in 2011, “the most influential justice of the last quarter-century.” Justice Burgess was a champion of adaptability, the theory of constitutional interpretation that seeks to apply the understanding of those who drafted and ratified the Constitution and how they would percieve it today. In Justice Burgess’s hands, adaptability generally led to outcomes that pleased political liberals, but not always. His approach was helpful to criminal defendants in cases involving sentencing and the cross-examination of witnesses.

Justice Burgess in his later years was willing to bend a little to attract votes from his colleagues. In Jasmusan v. Peller, the price of commanding a majority appeared to be including a passage limiting the practical impact of the decision.

President Atticus Moreau released a statement saying "Justice Burgess was an icon in the judicial history of our nation. A strong commanding voice and a level headed worker, he will be deeply missed and his legacy will never vapor."

Moreau is expected to nominate a replacement for Burgess in the coming weeks.

Brendan Dennadeer, PoverTea Movement Leader, Announces Candidacy for 2022

Image
Dennadeer is arrested during the 2019 PoverTea protests in Arinals, Zamastan

ARINALS - Brendan Dennadeer, the de-facto leader of the 2018-19 PoverTea Movement, has announced his candidacy for President in the 2022 election. Dennadeer, 60, is known for his activist work in lowering the influence of corporations in the political process. During the course of the protests, specifically in 2019, he delivered a speech in which he said "corporations sit back and drink their tea while the rest of us sit in poverty," coining the popularly used phrase of the movement. Dennadeer was arrested twice during the course of the 10 month-long protests.

The 2019 "PoverTea" protests, also known as the PoverTea Movement, were a series of progressive socio-political movements and protests that expressed opposition to social and economic inequality and to the lack of "real democracy" in Zamastan, though it expanded to several other nations in smaller forms, such as in Saint Croix and Bens, Avergnon, and Quetana. It aimed primarily to advance social and economic justice and new forms of democracy. The movement had many different scopes, since local groups often had different focuses, but its prime concerns included how large corporations (and the global financial system) held influence in government in a way that disproportionately benefited a minority, undermined democracy and caused instability. Another primary concern was that President Anya Bishop's administration had eased lobbying laws via executive order, an act which made corporate influence in Congressional Hall an even greater risk.

The first "PoverTea" protest to receive widespread attention occured in Tofino, Zian, on February 23rd, 2019. By April 15th, PoverTea protests had taken place or were ongoing in over 600 communities in Zamastan, with the largest movements being in Tofino, Alanis, Emerald, Providence, Titania, Jade Harbor, and Tregueux. On November 2nd, two police officers and three protesters were killed and over 300 people were injured when protesters and authorities clashed in Tofino, marking the first time there had been casualties of any kind during the movement. The deaths of the officers prompted President Bishop to order the Zamastanian Army onto the streets of Tofino, saying in a statement that the army was to "reinforce authorities under threat, but to keep the peace and prevent further casualties or fatalities on either side." The army fired on protesters after several more hours of clashes, killing an additional four protesters.

The events of November 2nd pushed Congressional Hall to condemn Bishop (469-30-1 in Congress, 84-16 in the Senate) for her actions, leading for Speaker of the Chamber Foley Sakzi to declare a Vote of No-Confidence. On November 9th, Bishop was removed from the Presidency in a 68-30-2 vote, marking the first time a President had been removed from office by legislative action in Zamastanian history. After Bishop's removal, the PoverTea protests largely subsided, as then-President Foley Sakzi (elected in an emergency vote on November 16th) introduced an economic reform bill and stimulus package to boost the economy and cut lobbying by corporate entities by 50%.

7.1 Earthquake Strikes Caspiaa, No Fatalities Reported

A powerful earthquake has struck off Caspiaa's Tarin Sea coast and immediately east of Granhättan, destroying homes and injuring at least 22 people.

The 7.1 magnitude tremor was centered off Miksiä Island province, the Caspiaan Geological Survey (CGS) said.

Caspiaa's government initially put the magnitude lower, at 6.6, saying 20 people had been injured.

The shallow tremor triggered a mini-tsunami that flooded low-lying coastal areas on the island, and the tsunami's waves also reached western shores of Zamastan but caused no damage or injuries.

The authorities in Kaajoki, the largest city on the island, are now setting up a tent area to house about 2,000 people overnight, amid fears that more buildings could collapse.

The authorities said that 70 people had been rescued from under the rubble.

Rescuers continued to dig through concrete blocks after darkness fell, hoping to find more survivors.

The CGS said the quake - which was felt as far away as Viitaniemi and Sillala - struck at a depth of 10km (six miles), although Caspiaan officials said it was 16km below ground.

Caspiaa and its volcanic archipelago sits on fault lines and earthquakes are common. The last deadly earthquake took place in 2012, when 15 people were killed during a 6.5 quake in the same general area as today's quake.

ALBARINE COMMEMORATES 70 YEARS SINCE JOINING WORLD WAR

Albarinean Armed Forces Joined the Allies on May 30th, 1951, in the Battle of the Toyana Ocean

Chancellor Melhaven and members of the National Assembly pay tribute on the 70th Anniversary of their involvement in the World War

SAINT MARINA - Chancellor Sadie Melhaven, military officials, and politicians paid tribute to the 7,603 Albarinean troops who were killed in the World War during a ceremony at the National Assembly. On May 30th, 1951, over two years after Drambenburg invaded Avergnon, Albarine joined the war alongside the allies such as Zamastan, Emmiria, Ruskayn, and Quetana. The motivating factor for joining the war was increased attacks on Albarinean shipping vessels, as well as a growing concern over the humanitarian abuses unfolding across eastern Euronia and northern Ausiana. Albarinean forces participated in several operations during the course of the war, with 7,603 ultimately dying in battle.

"Those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in securing our freedom and the future of the world are memorialized and not forgotten," Chancellor Melhaven said. "Those brave Albarineans who triumphed the beaches of Vulkaria and stormed the hills of Jerku are preserved in our hearts as heroes and steel victors."

The World War, also known as the Aurelia War or the Great Euronia War, was a global war that lasted from April 12th, 1949 to November 12th, 1954 and saw fighting all across Iearth, formed by two opposing military alliances: the Allied Powers and the League Powers. The war initially started after the Holy Empire of Drambenburg invaded western Avergnon, which prompted Zamastan to rush to its aid. A state of total war emerged after a few months of stalemates in the fighting, directly involving more than 100 million people from 19 countries across the world.

The major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. It included massacres, genocides, strategic bombing, and premeditated death from starvation and disease. It was the deadliest and costliest war in history, costing anywhere from 9,446,000 to 15,000,000 total killed, including 1-3 million civilians.

Albarine was spared from the brunt of the fighting thanks to its geographic isolation from the center of the conflict (central and eastern Euronia and northern Ausiana), but still experienced loss. Many of its civilian and commercial ships were sunk indiscriminately during the war, and Drambenburgian submarines once launched an attack on New Altai in late 1952, killing 29 civilians.

L'Humanité De Shoassau
Fugitive caught after shoot-out with Staventer police - An armed ex-soldier on the run in central Shoassau has been shot by police after a 24-hour manhunt.

Staventer - The man, named by police as 29-year-old Padde Dupin, had fled to a forest after shooting at officers on Saturday, sparking a massive search.

He was wounded during a shoot-out with a special forces squad, and has been taken into custody, officials say.

Interior Minister Menard Darmanin said he had been "neutralised" and thanked police for their "decisive action".

The manhunt began on Saturday after a "dispute" at Dupin's ex-partner's home, in Saint-Lazare in Staventer, led to him shooting at police.

The suspect, who had past domestic violence convictions, fled to nearby woods armed with a knife and a long-range hunting rifle, police said.

More than 300 officers, four armoured vehicles and a police helicopter were deployed to comb the four sq km (1.5 sq mile) stretch of woodland into Sunday night. Some 1,800 residents were urged to stay at home to avoid the "potentially very dangerous" suspect.

At around midday on Monday, the suspect was seriously wounded in a shoot-out with police, prefect of Muroana, Frédéric Périssat, said.

"Neutralised means that he was wounded during the return of fire. He is currently in the hands of the fire and rescue service for medical treatment," Mr Périssat said.

During the arrest, the suspect opened fire several times on special forces officers, he said, adding that the man appeared unconcerned about his own life.

RHAGA TRIBUNE
ENVS Makhat Returns To Tarijabar Port
The ship had been deployed to Saint Croix and Bens to monitor Alecburghian military activity

Image
ENVS Makhat returned to Tarijabar in Southern Emmiria on Wednesday following a month long deployment

RHAGA - The Emmirian destroyer ENVS Makhat is back in Tarijabar Naval Port following a month long deployment as part of a WEDA-authorized mission to monitor Alecburghian military buildup and ensure Saint Croix and Bens' protection. It was docked in the SCB port of Beresa as part of the WEDA detachment, which included three Zamastanian and one Albarinean naval vessel.

The destroyer partook in maneuvering drills alongside the WEDA vessels and SCB naval attachés as part of the deployment. There were worries prior to deployment about Alecburghian military activity in the region following numerous terrorist attacks by the self-proclaimed Republic of Cambria. The decision to deploy the vessel alongside the WEDA mission was made at behest of President Akram Sulaiman, as well as Prime Minister Mushtaaq al-Karimi, who believed that SCB was threatened by escalating tensions in the region.

Initially, Prime Minister Sparrow Creed of Alecburgh and her strong hardline rhetoric against the terrorist/insurgent movement in Cambria indicated to world leaders that a major military offensive was inevitable. 38 days since the Makhat's deployment, however, no shots have been fired by the Alecburghian military. Unnamed Emmirian military officials have stated that they believe the chances of a civil war erupting have severely declined since early April when the tensions first flared up.

The Makhat, along with its crew of 60, rotated on shore while they were stationed in Saint Croix and Bens to allow for training for SCB crews, who are set to man similar types of destroyers that will be arriving in SCB. The ships, which are part of the WEDA-authorized arms-deal with Saint Croix and Bens, number 6 in total and will be the backbone of the new core fighting arm of the SCB navy. The Makhat, as well as the vessels which will be delivered to SCB, are Zamastanian-built Prisma-class littoral combat ships constructed in 2005. Their construction was decommissioned by the Zamastanian navy in 2015, with the majority of the more than 60 constructed being given to WEDA member states as a defense package.

MARSARI SENTINEL
NORTH ICADANIA
EXPLOSIONS ROCK NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, CHANCELLOR'S OFFICE, AS PROTESTS RAGE IN MARSARI

Image

Chancellor Gianni Roussilis, safe in his vacation home in the nation's north, expressed frustration and disapproval of the violent protests which have raged in the capital city of Marsari over the last several days, with bombings reported at both the National Assembly and the Chancellor's office.

Hundreds of people have been injured, including police and soldiers, as anti-government protestors aligned with some factions from the Syraranto Civil War swell the capital to demand for Roussilis' resignation. The motivations for demanding his stepping down are over strict martial law effects which were put in place at the start of the Syraranto War in April of 2020 and have not been fully dropped yet.

Despite a small respite from the lockdowns in March, they were reinstated as Roussilis strengthened his hold on the military through a constitutional amendment passed in the National Assembly. Many of the protestors are calling the system of government illegitimate and rigged towards a totalitarian regime under Roussilis, similar to the conditions of Kyraikos Tasoulas in Syraranto which led to that nation's civil war.

There are worries amidst the protestors that Roussilis will order the military to crack down on the revolution, which would result in major casualties many predict.

There are over 100,000 people estimated to be protesting in Marsari against the government and the martial law restrictions, as thousands more protest in other major cities throughout the country.

Martial law had placed the nation's population under house orders, as frequent border clashes with Syraranto rebels and government forces alike resulted in fears of a major war spilling over. The Syraranto Civil War is the deadliest conflict in the world since the World War ended in 1954, with nearly half a million having died since April of 2020.

However, a ceasefire implemented in February has quelled much of the violence. With the exception of a few minor skirmishes, the war has essentially ended with a stalemate; Tasoulas remains in power and the dozens of rebel factions hold onto their respective territorial claims.

VONGANE JOURNAL
President Brafeo Denies Any Wrongdoing as Investigation Takes Turn
President António Brafeo is being investigated for ties to Guttesmara scandal

Image
President Brafeo during a televised address on June 2nd, 2021

VONGANE - President António Brafeo, in a televised address, stated that he was fully cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation to alleged insider trading and corruption, while strongly denying wrongdoing. In the statement, he said "I can say with certainty that nothing I did in the process of interacting with Guttesmara was malicious. Nothing I did was harmful to the integrity of the financial systems of Quetana. Nothing I did boosted my own personal gain. I deny all wrongdoing, and I will cooperate fully with the investigation to see that this is proven."

Brafeo denies being involved in any insider trading as a chief government representative through the process. However, it is publicly believed by investigators that President Brafeo aided his brother's company in gaining inside material of the Bank of Quetana, which functions partially as a government entity.

The scandal and the lingering implications of it led to the resignation of many top politicians, including Foreign Minister Reis Mantagra. It also led to an economic crisis due to unsustainable debt growth which led to a Coalition of Crown Albatross bailout, which Quetana has struggled and staggered to recover from since.

Ambassador to North Icadania Recalled Over Fears Of Violence

Chancellor Kennedy Telgado has ordered Ambassador Neville Ramana to recall from North Icadania as Chancellor Gianni Roussilis orders his government's police and armed forces to stew away protests in Marsari, the nation's capital. Utobania is the first government to take such diplomatic action as the protests and civil tensions in North Icadania continue to boil.

"We are hopeful that Chancellor Roussilis is able to conduct a peaceful approach to negotiating and mediating with the masses," Chancellor Telgado said. "We are willing to help. For the safety of our ambassador and diplomatic staff, however, we have recalled them from Marsari and have ordered them back to Autrataya."

The protests began in response to Roussilis' government's harsh and thorough martial law restrictions which have been in place for over a year due to the conflict in neighboring Syraranto.

SHANGHAN - The Yuaneze government, at behest of President Xi Jingyi, will begin implementing regulations for companies and corporations to become carbon neutral by the year 2040. Automakers in Yuan plan to reach carbon emissions neutrality by the end of this year, while their total carbon emissions in its Yuaneze production chain will fall 80% by 2030.

Even the nation's oil producing sectors, which make up one of the world's largest energy producing industries, aim to become carbon neutral. Major listed oil and gas companies have set themselves goals to reduce emissions and increasingly are shifting their portfolios towards renewable energy.

"This is something we are interested in as we will work out a carbon reporting verification system for companies working in this country, and we will move on to testing the turnover of carbon units," President Xi Jingyi said.

Water treatment facilities and hydro works throughout he country are aiming to be completely powered by hydroelectric power, while major urban areas will be connected along a grid of hydroelectric, wind, solar, and nuclear power in the next two decades.

COURAGE LAUNCH | CREW IS SET ON COURSE TO EIRUS

Image
The Blue Eagle rocket, with 16 astronauts aboard, launched from Tregueux International Space Center. It will reach Eirus in January of 2022, effectively making humanity an interplanetary species.

TREGUEUX - "On Friday, June 4th, 2021, a foundational step of the future was made. Not just the future of Zamastan, not just the future of the world, but the future of the solar system and the future of space as we know it. Humanity is on the verge of becoming a multi-planetary species."

These words, spoken by ZSA Director Thibault Berger, marked moments before sixteen astronauts from six nations launched from Tregueux International Space Center aboard the Albatross Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV), more popularly known as the Blue Eagle rocket. They will orbit the world twenty three times before slingshoting out of the gravitational control of the planet to begin the nearly 9 month journey to Eirus.

The Courage program is a Zamastan government-funded international human spaceflight program that has the goal of "landing man on Eirus", specifically at the south pole region. The program is carried out predominantly by the Z.S.A., Zamastanian commercial spaceflight companies contracted by ZSA, and international partners including the A.S.P. (Avergnon), C.S.R.D.A. (Cadair), R.C.I. (Ruskayn), C.T.A. (Durnstaal), V.C.A. (Vulkaria), Y.S.E.I. (De Yuan), D.L.R. (Drambenburg), and B.E.S.A. (Beleroskov). ZSA is leading the program, but expects international partnerships to play a key role in advancing Courage as the next step towards the long-term goal of establishing a sustainable presence on the Eirus, laying the foundation for private companies to build a planetary economy, and eventually sending humans to other possibly habitable planetary bodies.

Since the early 2000s, ZSA had worked on numerous projects designed to test human limitations on the surface of other planets for possible habitation and colonization. The concept operates through three distinct phases leading up to fully sustained colonization. Zamastan has several robotic missions currently exploring Eirus, with a sample-return planned for the future. The Albatross Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) is intended to serve as the launch/splashdown crew delivery vehicle, with a Deep Space Habitat module providing additional living-space for the 16-month-long journey.

The first stage, already underway, is the "Iearth Reliant" phase. This phase continues using the Coalition Space Station until 2026; validating deep space technologies and studying the effects of long-duration space missions on the human body. The second stage, "Proving Ground," moves away from Iearth reliance and ventures into cislunar space for most of its tasks. The stage would test deep-space habitation facilities, and validate capabilities required for human exploration of Eirus. Finally, phase three is the transition to independence from Iearth resources. The "Iearth Independent" phase includes long term missions with surface habitats that only require routine maintenance, and the harvesting of Eirusian resources for fuel, water, and building materials.

On December 27th, 2020, ZSA Director Thibault Berger and Secretary of Space Science, Development, and Exploration Piyush Goyal announced that the Zamastanian Space Agency would be leading an internationally organized manned-mission to Eirus, the fourth planet in the Estrella System, in the goal of setting up a long term habitation and colonization program on its surface. The mission, named the Courage program, consistent of 16 astronauts (6 Zamastanian, the remaining 10 from Durnstaal, Vitosium, Caspiaa, Yuan, and Avergnon) will arrive at Eirus in January 2022.

Years of preparation, largely in secret international cooperation, led to the moment that occured today with the historic launch. President Atticus Moreau, speaking following the launch, wished the astronauts good luck and stated that "the future of humanity will be ensured among the stars."

On board the vessel are the following astronauts:
Joel Simpson (Zamastan)
Kayla Marshall (Zamastan)
Zachary Davies (Zamastan)
Trevor Sykes (Zamastan)
Walter Cochran (Zamastan)
Jayden Richards (Zamastan)
Gauti Anorsson (Caspiaa)

Z.I.S. ELEVATES TERROR WARNING AMID SURGING NORTH ICADANIA TENSIONS

Image
A woman walks in front of smoke in the Marsari Main Square. North Icadania has seen widespread protests with intense clashes between demonstrators and police

MARSARI - The Zamastanian Intelligence Service is elevating the national terror warning as North Icadania, a nation which has produced tens of thousands of refugees to Zamastan over the past year, plunges into chaos. Bordering the war-torn nation of Syraranto, the government of Chancellor Gianni Roussilis ordered the nation into a strict martial law restriction back in April of 2020 when the civil war to the south erupted. Occasional cross-border clashes with Syrarantoan federal forces and rebels alike had placed the North Icadanian populace into a state of constant preparation for war, which never came. Now, more than four months after a ceasefire was implemented in Syraranto, the population is vying for the martial law to be lifted.

Chancellor Roussilis, known for his ideological-crazed base which has kept him effectively in power for more than two decades, has been labeled by most nations as a dictator. However, the semblance of a political and democratic process in North Icadania has levied him as the legitimate leader of the country despite many in the international community having their own reservations. The fear now, according to ZIS Director Kirk Faulkman, is that refugees from North Icadania in Zamastan have been radicalized, either in favor of the Roussilis government or against it. That, Faulkman says, is the perfect mix for possible domestic violent action towards the Zamastanian government or civilian population, which has generally removed itself from the issues of the North Icadanians.

"We encourage anyone who sees something suspicious or out of place to say something," Faulkman stated in a press briefing. "It's better to be safe than sorry. Of course the overall risk and chance of an attack is minimal, but we've seen scenarios before where political crisis in other countries translates to radicals trying to make a statement here in Zamastan. Often times, those statements have been violent."

The terror warning had been elevated from its already high state, which existed with the military operations in West Chanchajilla as fears of retaliation by the late dictator Frederick Armbar persisted. Terror threats against Zamastan have also been made by other hostile governments recently, such as the government of Birat's President Alan Meidan. To a less physical extent, the government of De Yuan has threatened more cyber attacks against Zamastanian networks as they have been doing for the past few years.

MARSARI SENTINEL
NORTH ICADANIA
CLASHES BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND PROTESTORS TURN DEADLY - DOZENS KILLED AS FIGHTING ERUPTS

Image

Chancellor Gianni Roussilis has ordered all government officers to stay in place in Marsari as demonstrations turned violent on Friday. At least 56 people were killed as clashes erupted between insurgents, who Roussilis' office says attempted to breach the National Assembly. Protests have been ongoing throughout the last several weeks as outrage against martial law reached a boiling point.

Gunfire erupted outside the National Assembly, Foreign Ministry, and War Ministry as the government forces and police set up barricades. It's unknown at this point which side fired first, but both protestors and government are blaming each other for starting the fight. Protestors scrambled for cover as insurgents emerged from crowds and bloc buildings, advancing in squads towards those facilities.

Roussilis, staunchly holding onto power and continuing to be adamant that martial law is keeping North Icadania safe from conflict with Syrarantoan factions to the south, is still bunkering at his estate in the northernmost tip of the country. He left Marsari last week as protests erupted and has not been back to the capital since.

North Icadania's government continues to find itself in a difficult position on the international stage, short on allies and being deemed authoritarian in its conduct regarding the protests. The government of Utobania and the government of Siniapore withdrew their ambassadors to North Icadania, signaling trouble with regional powers. Additionally, Zamastan has issued warnings about travel and concerns about radicalization from government loyalists or those opposed to Roussilis.

HHH intiative set to pull Xenick out of economic depression by 2030 or lower
Xenick has long been in a state of decline. Economic instability and poverty crashed the economy and quality of life. But the government now has formulated a plan to combat it. Considered one of the more ambitious moves by Xenick, the Hoe, Hammer, and Harvest emphasized menial labour as a quality of Southern Xenick, pressuring farmers to increase harvest, loggers to increase wood output, and builders to qicken their pace. All over the nation, the affects of the program are felt in the adbundance of materials in the previously starved market.

But what is the HHH? Well, in a press conference following a protest in Reach following the HHH, the President Bobbo called it a measure to help protect the rural Xenickians whose standard of life was lower than a city dwellers, and to aid more out of the way areas. It's goal was reported to increase material productivity and cut unemployment and poverty. This was beginning when thousands of government workers drove around the countryside with tools and material in their cars, distributing it into communities with low production rates, and telling the people that their new job was for the government collecting material for a paycheck.

On the ground, Rodrigo Seymour is reporting on the program. He stated that [sic]"The HHH initiative, I believe, will work to increase production. However, it is a gamble, as some doubt the governments ability to pay off the patriots behind the material boost. In this town, Agua Fria, we have the Red Ranger coalition protesting against the HHH, holding banners of all work no pay". Of course, Rodrigo raises a point. Much of the federal reserve was depleted ever since the ongoing defecit started in 2014.

Image
A significant focus for the program was said to be agriculture, according to Bobbo. The hungry nation had starvation like no other, and to combat this the HHH had a higher quantity of farming tools distributed than the others. The HHH has a somewhat diversified portfoiio as well, with Hoes, Axes, Hammers, steelmaking equipment, saws, chainsaws, cement, trucks, and containers going towards the rural areas, in an aim to industrialise them for maximum production. Around 4 million total units of material were expected to be delivered in 4 months time.
This has been The Rising Sun reporting.

Beleroskovian Air Force Chief Resigns Over Death and Sexual Abuse Case

Image

President Nikolai Ubotrov announced that Lianel Bakatov has resigned, and that he immediately accepted the resignation letter. Bakatov was the shortest-serving head of the Beleroskov Air Force. Bakatov, the country’s air force chief has resigned, apologizing and taking responsibility for the death of a member of the force who took her own life, according to her family, after being sexually harassed by a colleague.

Bakatov offered to step down a day after an air force master sergeant was arrested on charges of abusing and injuring a female colleague of the same rank in March.

“I feel heavy responsibility over the series of circumstances,” the general said.

“I express my deep condolences to the victim and extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family.”

President Ubotrov immediately accepted Bakatov's resignation, his press secretary said on Friday, making him the shortest-serving Beleroskov air force chief after appointing him in December.

The family of the victim said she had suffered mental distress and persistent bullying, and accused the air force of trying to cover up the assault and silence her during the past two months.

The case sparked a public outcry after the woman’s family filed a petition with Ubotrov's office on Tuesday calling for a thorough investigation and punishment for those involved. More than 326,000 people have signed it so far.

The case also weighs heavily on Ubotrov, whose public approval rating has been steadily declining, and whose party suffered crushing electoral defeats in two major cities before the presidential election next year.

Ubotrov ordered an investigation on Thursday including on how the air force handled the case, as the family reported three officials at Bakatov's base to military prosecutors, accusing two of them of dereliction of duty and attempted compulsion and the other of sexual harassment.

The air force on Thursday dismissed two supervisors involved in Bakatov's case, without elaborating why.

On Friday, military prosecutors raided the offices of the air force military police at its headquarters and Bakatov's base, the defence ministry said.

A series of incidents has prompted the military to tighten rules and penalties for sexual abuse, but activists say the military is still too soft on members accused of wrongdoing.

“The investigation is under way, but so far there were signs that the air force tried to protect its own organisation, rather than the victim, despite her multiple attempts seeking help,” a defence source told Delovoy Koyevka on condition of anonymity citing the investigation.

The woman’s death came amid growing discussion about whether the nation's all-male draft should be abolished.

All able-bodied male citizens have to serve for nearly two years but women can volunteer for the military.

Barrack-room bullying as well as other forms of abuse have long tainted Beleroskov’s military service and have resulted in several suicides and deadly shooting sprees in the past.

Cyruda Relaxes Alert Levels as Tensions Quell
The country had been in a heightened state of worry following a bombing three weeks ago in Dawea.

18 days after the deadly bombing in downtown Dawea that killed 7 and injured dozens, President Guiler Batemara is lifting the terror alert level and allowing public transport to operate regularly once again. The nation's military, still with contingents deployed in neighboring Alecburgh, have not seen conflict in response to the attack or any action. Experts believe that the most violent wave of insurgent activity is over.

Three weeks ago, an explosion rocked a bus station in downtown Dawea, Cyruda's largest city, amid growing tensions against the Alecburghian and Cyruda governments by the self-declared Republic of Cambria. Batemara and intelligence officials suspected that Cambrian insurgents, who have been connected to multiple violent and deadly terror attacks in Alecburgh, were behind the explosion. 7 people were killed, and dozens more have been injured in Cyruda's worst terror attack in 2 decades.

Protestors against military involvement in Alecburgh had gathered around the Presidential compound in the capital city of Byanmar, and many staged a sit-in on the steps of the National Assembly where lawmakers have been debating the use of military deployment against a region declaring sovereignty from another foreign state.

There are currently 2,000 Cyrudan troops deployed in Alecburgh as part of a coalition to quell the unrest and insurgencies, which have claimed hundreds of lives in the past few months. Prime Minister Sparrow Creed of Alecburgh requested international assistance, to which Cyruda and De Yuan responded. Dawea, the nation's largest city with a population of 772,000, is located only 40 miles from the border of Alecburgh and more importantly in the case of the attack, the self-declared Republic of Cambria.

The Cyrudan military has not seen direct action in nearly 50 years, and thus is not thoroughly experienced in combat. However, yearly drills with Alecburghian military partnerships and a collective community through SEIAA has allowed Cyruda's operations to garner some credibility. While Alecburgh's military has also not seen foreign conflict, they have had to work extensively to end uprisings within their own country. The naval vessels participating in the deployment are the CNS Cruatorvm, CNS Neveaas, CNS Crait Rock, and the CNS Xrovat.

Reach police department arrest man for embezzling millions of dollars in farming funds

The RPD raided a mansion in reach, which had come under intese scrutiny when its vast farming lands was producing a 13% margin less than the standard, and 23% less than the farms usual output. Following investigation, it was seen that many farm workers had no tools, malnourished in appearance, and the farmsteads in poor condition. Funding for upkeep had gone somewhere, and the police got a warrant to follow the money. One of the participating police stated that [sic]"The house was in poor condition, it was visibly grimy, and had rags filling in holes in the walls. The workers were skinny as sticks, with broken tools and no tools in many hands." The scene was repeated again and again after the police drove to other farms owned by the man, who will remain anonymous by request of his lawyer. After collecting evidence from an anonymous crime tipper saying that money had stopped going to the farms, the police collected a warrant to enter the mansion and arrest the man, who is now undergoing trial for embezzlment and counter-production for the HHH and Xenickese economy.

Politician lynched by mob over betrayal of small towns
Politician Julio Fernando was recently killed by a mob in the town of Tierra Azul, after a whistleblower called him out for purposely diverting their food towards more Liberty Party leaning cities and towns. Tierra Azul was a social party aligned town, so they saw to get rid of their likeliness to vote for the leftists and more for the rightists in the liberty party, was a downright cruel and angering tactic to the citizens when the word circulated. The next day, riots broke out in the town with a population of 2,300, and Julio himself needed to come, as they demanded that he come so they could negotiate. Before he could begin speaking, handguns had wounded him and he was kicked around by malnourished children and vengeful adults. They took Julio to a noose that they had set up, and hanged him. The police came to the seen after state loyal citizens saw the scene, and a curfew was imposed on the town. The police made no actions or arrest, out of fear of inciting large scale violence or a brawl in the town. The body was removed 6 hours after the killing, and the president was set to make a statement after an urgent affair with international trade be solved. In the meantime, the Rising Sun advises people to stay safe, and to avoid scenes of economic and political violence.

Protestors throw flaming bottles at North Icadanian government forces during clashes in Marsari on June 5th, 2021

VONGANE - President António Brafeo has ordered the Ambassador to North Icadania, Baron Casma, to return homestead following dramatically escalating tensions in that nation. North Icadania has been in a state of virtual lockdown for over a year as the Syraranto Civil War raged to their south, and the nation's head of state Gianni Rousillis had implemented martial law. Now, as the CCA-authorized ceasefire in Syraranto remains steady more than three months after its signing, Chancellor Rousillis faces major opposition from the public who have been demonstrating in the capital of Marsari.

Yesterday, government forces and demonstrators clashed in Marsari's main square, leaving dozens dead. Ambassador Casma, who had reportedly met with Chancellor Rousillis at his estate north of Marsari, is being recalled by President Brafeo. Ambassador Casma had met with the Chancellor to try and convince him to alleviate the martial law restrictions. The Chancellor reportedly refused to remove the restrictions, and now there is fear in Quetanan government circles of a civil war erupting in North Icadania.

The trend of erupting civil wars internationally has worried experts, specifically as the tensions in Southern Adula, central Euronia, and once again in Western Nortua continue to provide dimming prospects. Additionally, the rise of authoritarian leaders and the governments around them has been equally disconcerting for the Foreign Ministry.

President Brafeo, in his only address to the subject, has stated that he hopes democratic process can reverse the decision of the government to keep martial law in effect so impactfully. "The conduct of the North Icadanian public in these demonstrations suggests anger towards the martial law more so than the government of the country itself," Brafeo stated. "If Chancellor Rousillis sees the request to lift restrictions as a threat to his power, then that's another issue entirely. I implore the Chancellor and all those consisting power in the North Icadanian government to lift these restrictions and allow freedom for the Icadanian people who have endured much in the past year."
