May
The Russian Empire

The beginning of May was cause for much growing festivity and celebration in all regions of the vast transcontinental realm that is Russia. Spanning from the Pripyat Marshes in the West along the Polish Borders all the way across the Urals into Asia, reaching the Pacific Ocean, and from the arid deserts of Southern Central Asia to the frigid long nights of the Kola Peninsula. Home to over one hundred and seventy-seven million people. Spread across twelve time zones. Host to the worlds largest economy and this month, honoring the fallen of its venerable military. From the metropolises of Moscow and Saint Petersburg to the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok. From chilly Arkhangelsk to the palm tree lined shores of Batumi and Sochi. Banners were unfurled, portraits and icons raised, flag poles brimming, and the local military, police, and civil defense formations gathering in parade drill. Military vehicles lined boulevards, helicopters and planes of all types and stripes conducted aerial practice in the skies. All for a single day. May 9th. Victory Day. A day to remember all those who gave their lives in defense of The Motherland and its people seventy-six years ago.

The lead up to the celebrations was much fanfare. Cities unleashed an absolute plethora of decorations across famous landmarks, monuments received fresh flowers and laurels, while surviving veterans performed public appearances as living memories of the nation. High profile members of the Imperial Government likewise fullfilled similar duties. Members of the State Duma with past military service donned their old uniforms. While both Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev gave televised interviews regarding the nation and remembering its glorious past, and how it provides the seeds for an equally prosperous future. The Tsarina herself made appearances in Saint Petersburg, Tsaritsyn, Minsk, and Yekaterinburg before arriving in Moscow for the May 9th celebrations. Before her planned tour of the Empire's Asiatic districts. All the while Imperial Palaces opened their doors and displayed priceless collections of historic artifacts, memorabilia of the Great Patriotic War, and commemorating artworks.

Moscow
May 9th

By the time May 9th arrived for Russia's European territories the atmosphere could be described quite plainly as a mixture of high spirits meets dour remembrance. Millions of lives had been lost in the fight to defeat Nazism and the Axis powers that had conducted the largest invasion in history upon the Russian nation. A cost matched only by the number of civilians that had perished in the crimes perpetuated upon the population by the occupying Axis regimes. All of which was expounded in a calm, but passionate speech punctuated with phrases about Nazi ideas still persisting around the globe, by the Head of Her Majesty's Government, Vladimir Putin. Who addressed thousands on Red Square and millions throughout the country. One specific snippet from the speech's transcript, caught onto the airwaves and headlines around the Empire; with Moscow Gazette and Pravda clipping the following,

“Unfortunately, many of the ideologies of the Nazis, those who were obsessed with the delusional theory of their exclusiveness, are again trying to be put into service,” he said, without citing specifics.

The aging Head of Government, and one term head of the State Duma, had not lost his ability to make many Russians listen to his words. Able to speak clearly to the concerns of the citizenry much like he had done during the turbulent years of the 1990's. When it was unclear if the Empire would even survive the decade. A man of strength, yet reserved, the lines on his face complimenting the sage warning of his voice. Matched by a dour walk, holding a wreath, and joined by the Tsarina herself who remained silent at the parade, as both laid down the eloquent offering onto the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier adjacent to the walls of the Kremlin itself.

Only when both had returned to the stands did the boom of the cannonry situation outside of the Kremlin's famous red walls commence. High ranking officers of the Imperial military being driven forward in sleek black Lada's. Standing in the passenger seating as they gave their salutes, their observing of the neat blocs of soldiers and cadets of the Armed Forces gathered before them. Of the Military bands that would play in perfect unison the National Anthem and then a collection of patriotic songs. The Russian Army is the Strongest, The March of the Siberian Riflemen, Farewell to Slavianka, Song of the Volga Boatmen, and so forth.

Practically in tune, to the tramping march of the perfectly drilled blocks of soldiery. Ground Forces troops, Naval Infantry, Airborne, Sailors, Airmen, Cadets, and many more representing the various strata of the Imperial Military trooped past. Followed by honorary detachments of the Imperial Guards including several squadrons of mounted troops in full regalia like their Napoleonic ancestors. Then of course the vehicles. Underneath the colorful chemtrails of first a gunship flight, then a squadron of fighters and transports. Even a pair of bombers from the Aerospace Forces Strategic Bomber arm made skillful fly-bys. All while one hundred and ninety vehicles drove past in parade formations. New T-14s, modern T-90s and 80s alongside updated 72s, while venerable T-34s rolled by with banners adorning their turrets and chassis.

When the parade ended the days events were themselves not over. Fireworks boomed throughout the night across the country. Celebrations and cultural venues abounded. From concerts to social gatherings. Street markets to new exhibitions. A careful get away from the geo-political turmoil the world was constantly in...

State Duma/Госуда́рственная ду́ма
Moscow
May 13th, 2021

The State Duma, official transliteration from Cyrillic being Gosudárstvennaya dúma, in the Tverskoy district of Central Moscow. Was tense as ever despite the jubilations pervading the country mere days earlier. The geo-political situation of the Empire was to put it bluntly, much better than twenty years ago, yet now facing a whole new set of challenges to the status quo. Under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, a strong man by all definition and very much the sword and shield of the Tsarina, had helped pull the nation of recession. No small part played by the now head of the Imperial Treasury and financial consultant for the Imperial Purse, Alexei Kudrin, whose economic mind and treatises have earned world renown. Compounded by preserving the territorial integrity of the Caucasus amidst a fierce Chechen breakaway attempt during the same period. A threat which had at one point bore the implication of an unwinding of Imperial territory South of Stavropol Oblast, had been soundly defeated. Cementing his power and party in the process. Yet, it was not all a rose colored past, and certain issues still roosted.

Putin had introduced a series of Constitutional changes in the intervening years that had mostly ended in not only strengthening his office. But restoring powers previously lost to the Crown since the time of Nicholas II. The astute readers of Russian legislation over the last twenty years would carefully note the terminology and phraseology of many of those passages, many of whom personally scrutinized over Putin himself over long nights in the Kremlin. That while, on the surface, seeming to preserve the Constitutionality of the Empire's government structure. Really bent power to the Crown and the offices that immediately report to the Empress. That of Head of Government and Head of the Duma. Something which bore no small complaint from the more liberal minded echelons of the government and people of the nation. But as ever, good times seldom yielded much concern for the powers that be, and as the Russian economy continued to host stable growth, the ivory tower of high office remained unassail.

Externally, the situation was more mixed. The Donbass War, following protests against the Ukrainian government in 2014 which spun into separatist movements in the country's eastern oblasts, had dragged on with no real end in sight. As for while Armistices were periodic and de-escalation promoted publicly by both Ukraine and Russia. The situation was one of a frozen conflict with no real resolution on the table. Kiev did not recognize Luhansk and Donetsk as independent Republics. Nor would they tolerate their incorporation into the Russian Empire like that of the Crimea. While Moscow benefited from Ukraine being involved as a means of weakening a possible threat on its South-Western frontier.

Further South, Turkey and the Free City of Constantinople were another source of concerns for the Russian government. While both Russia and Constantinople were mostly Orthodox in the faith of the citizenry, the apartheid nature of Constantinople's political and social structure was troublesome. A troubling loose knife only dwarfed by the spilled gunpowder that was East Asia. Japan, Manchuria, Korea, and China was a situation that the Tsarina herself in more than one dispatch to both Putin and Medvedev espoused wishes to prepare for. But without major incident could seldom justify to the international community taking serious action against. Let alone the prospect of intervention in any hostilities.

Only time would tell...

Greece's Most Popular Paper

Digitization Bill Introduced in Parliament

Image
- Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Digital Reform

The Minister of Digital Reform, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, introduced in Parliament the 'Digital Transformation Act'. This important bill aims to completely transform Greek public administration by eliminating countless of hours of paperwork and red tape while allowing the Greek citizens to access government services online either through their computer or through a single app on their mobile phone.

"Imagine," the Minister stated to the press, "being able to conduct all your dealing with the government on a sofa in your phone without ever needing to visit a government office and wait in line. That is what this bill does. It gives a digital ID to every adult citizen and digitizes the entire structure of public administration. It collects all government websites into a single website, gov.gr, that will allow citizens to access them with ease. It also introduces digital education in schools, thus preparing our children for the challenges of the new digital, globalized economy. It is of vital importance that our children become digitally literate. The overall effect of this bill will be to eliminate much of the bureaucracy keeping off investments, restore the trust of citizens to the government, prevent corruption as interactions with the public sector shall be faceless and substantially bring down the cost of our public administration while bringing up its quality."

§1 - Digital Signatures

  • Physical ID cards are to be paired with digital signatures (Digital ID). Digital signatures (Digital ID) will be mandatory for every adult Greek citizen.
  • The digital signature shall:
    1. be used to pay taxes, authenticate transactions with the government, do online banking and access health care records
    2. be legally equivalent to manual signature
  • Each person will be provided a client certificate, to make the digital ID compatible with standard X.509 and TLS infrastructure.
  • The system will be accessed only through a highly encrypted end-to-end, two-factor authorization system, which will be accessible only with a digital ID or ID card. Only people authorized by the person owning the data can access their personal data.

§2 - Digital Administration

  • A 'gov.gr' website shall be established as a public sector information website to provide a single point of access of all Greek government services. The website will replace the individual websites of hundreds of government departments and public bodies, and the URLs of all government departments shall be redirected to that new website.
  • All government/public sector departments that do not have a web platform, will be given a timeline of six months to build one. Those web platforms shall have their URLs stored in gov.gr, for easy access by the citizens.
  • Gov.gr will be using a simple search engine-like interface to tie the government's vast portfolio of websites together and allow easy access to them by the citizens.
  • The government will be making use of free open source software, such as GNU/Linux.
  • Civil servants will have to undertake a mandatory one-month digital course to familiarize themselves with digital administration.
  • All interactions between citizens and the public sector will be available online: all departmental paperwork will be digitized (PDF, Word) and use of digital ID will mean that no physical presence at any department will be required. However, adequate physical offices shall still be maintained and shall serve those who are unable to use online services.
  • Gov.gr and all its services will be also available on a single mobile phone app: 'Greek-Gov App'. This will allow easy access to all government services through mobile phones.

§3 - Digital Education

  • A voucher shall be offered to Greek adult citizens who wish to take up digital education courses. The voucher shall apply only for government-verified instructors.
  • Every classroom will be required to have at least one computer. Schools that cannot afford to do so, shall receive the necessary government funding.
  • 'Digital Education' will become a lesson in all high-school classes of Greece: the lesson will familiarize Greek children with digital skills necessary in the new globalized, digital economy.

The bill has been widely praised. The Islamic Liberty Party, the Centrists' Union, the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, the Coalition of the Radical Left and the Sunflower Movement have pledged to vote the bill. Only the Communist Party of Greece has opposed the bill, claiming that it is "technofascism". As such, it is certain that bill will be approved.

Vice-President Kılıçdaroğlu Criticizes Constantinople

Image
- Vice-President Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu

In a rare statement with regards to Constantinople, Vice-President Kılıçdaroğlu expressed the displeasure of the Greek government with regards to the current state of affairs in Constantinople. Greece has long been critical of Constantinople, but in the past refrained from such direct criticism as Constantinople is an important strategic partner of Greece. However, as the reputation of Constantinople plummets internationally, Greece finds the current situation untenable and is pushing the government of Constantinople to finally undertake much needed reforms to address domestic unrest.

"Constantinople is a strategic ally of Greece. Our two states are connected by deep bonds of shared history, culture and geography. We value our Constantinople allies. However - and in this I express the opinion of the entire government - we look with displeasure at the current state of affairs with regards to the Muslim minority of Constantinople. In Greece, Christians and Muslims are united in their love for the nation and desire for productivity and progress. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Constantinople. The Christian and Muslim communities are at odds with each other and I have to state, with great displeasure on my part, that the government of Constantinople has not addressed the issue properly. The Greek government desires for Constantinople to adopt the necessary reforms to enfranchise the Muslim minority, bring equality before the law and end domestic unrest."

This unprecedented direct criticism of Constantinople is viewed by analysts as evidence that Greece is losing its patience with the Constantinople elites and their inability to restore domestic peace. While some politicians belonging to the right-wing faction of New Democracy have expressed concerns about the tone of the address, the general consensus amongst both right-wing and left-wing politicians is that Greece must finally push harsh for reforms lest Constantinople's international reputation legitimizes the arguments of Turkish nationalists who want to upset the status quo.

President Mitsotakis Visits Coast Guard

Image
- President Kyriakos Mitsotakis

President Kyriakos Mitsotakis paid a visit to the Greek Coast Guard Headquarters. Addressing the men of the Coast Guard, he praised them for their efforts to protect the borders of Greece from 'migrant invaders'. He also promised further reforms to bolster border control and deal with the migrant crisis. "I want to thank the men and women of the Hellenic Coast Guard for their bravery, dedication and patriotism," he said. "Those men and women protect the borders of Greece from illegal migrant invaders. Our government has managed, uniquely among Mediterranean states, to reduce the migrant flows. We send a clear message to people smugglers and illegal immigrants: Greece has borders and it will defend them by any means necessary."

"My government aims to bring further legislation to deal with the migrant crisis. We will automatically reject asylum requests by those who have crossed a safe country in their journey to Greece. International law states that refugees must seek refuge at the first safe country, not travel through countless of countries and ask for asylum in a prosperous country in order to drain public resources and live off handouts. We shall also be reducing the required time for asylum requests to be judged, so that real refugees can quickly be granted proper papers and illegal immigrants can be deported fast. Last but not least, we will buying ten new vessels for the Coast Guard to further bolster border control. For a nation without borders is not a nation!"

The spokesperson for the Panhellenic Socialist Movement, Pavlos Geroulanos, has criticized the President's speech. "I believe that we should deal with the issue of migration in a humanitarian manner rather than one that promotes militarization of the issue. We do need faster asylum judgement, but we also need to make sure asylum claims are properly evaluated. We also need to take measures to integrate proper refugees in our society by providing job training and temporary financial assistance."

King Pavlos Visits Antalya

Image
- His Royal Majesty, King Pavlos

His Royal Majesty, King Pavlos, visited Antalya. While the visit has been for purpose of private holidays, the King's arrival to the city was a public spectacle with the Mayor of Antalya, Ioannes Grammatikakis, and dozens of citizens waiting at the airport to greet His Royal Majesty. What took many by surprise was that the King was unshaved; this caused flattering remarks, as several citizens stated that they found His Royal Majesty more attractive with a beard. His Royal Majesty conversed with the citizens and listened to their concerns. He also expressed his admiration for the beauty of the city and the hospitality of its inhabitants.

It is expected that the royal holidays will last for about a week. Where the King will remain is kept a secret, as His Royal Majesty wishes to avoid paparazzies and hopes for privacy. Nevertheless, the city has been flooded with journalists who hope to get a glimpse of the King. Mayor Grammatikakis is certainly pleased with the attention given by the press to city, and hopes that it will attract even more tourists.

May 2021, Argentina

While the northern hemisphere and its nations welcomed the onset of spring, in the south, winter was coming. The hot and humid summer months of January and February had been replaced with increasingly mild and cool days. Rain and snow would soon be inbound for parts of the country, as would the waves of tourists from the Northern Hemisphere escaping heat waves in their own countries. And in roughly three months the largest civic holiday of the year would take place. On July 9th, troops and military vehicles would make their way down July 9th Avenue in Buenos Aires to celebrate independence day. Already preparations and planning were underway to ensure nothing was less than perfect. After all, it was tradition for groups of foreign soldiers from allied nations to participate in these parades, and anything less than perfection would be an embarrassment for Argentina's reputation.

Of course, cities around Argentina would also hold their own celebrations with their own parades. But no parade came close to that of Buenos Aires. However, it's needless to say that there were more pressing issues to tackle. An infrastructure bill that included $1 trillion for the first phase of a projected high-speed railway was proving to be highly controversial. Planning to link Buenos Aires to Córdoba via Rosario as well as Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, the network was to be the first of its kind in Latin America. No one doubted the economic benefits as well as the environmental benefits the project would have, but the cost was viewed by not an insignificant portion of the population to be outrageous. It was estimated to take nearly a decade for the project to be completed if approved, and that was despite the routes and stations already having being decided as far back as 2016, with all possible surveys already completed to investigate the environmental impact of the project. No one wanted to be responsible for killing the project, but if a consensus was not reached, it will end up killed collectively by the entirety of congress.

Buenos Aires, May 10th

"Honored members of this congress, what we are voting on is infrastructure, no matter how it is dressed up, it is nothing more than a railway line. A railway line that will cost five trillion pesos and will take a decade to build if not longer. Perhaps this sounds insignificant but it means an expenditure of five-hundred billion pesos per year, for what in many ways is unnecessary infrastructure. I do not deny the benefits of high-speed rail, nor do I deny that it works, but in this case, its cost would outweigh the benefits. There is not sufficient rail traffic to justify this project, and the project would take away from other forms of transportation, namely air travel, and road travel. The economic impacts that a loss of job in these sectors would create would be utterly catastrophic to the transportation sector. Bus driver strikes and widespread protests at cost overruns will ensue if this project goes towards. We need a practical solution, not an idealistic one to our troubles." Said Mauricio Macri, the leader of the opposition coalition as he spoke from this seat in congress.

"Mr. Macri, you oppose a high-speed rail line to Mar del Plata?" Asked a PJ representative as Macri took a sip of water.

"I would. But, only on the condition that the line does not provide an excessive level of competition against other forms of transportation. Sufficient competition to further innovation and improvement, but not sufficient to prove deadly to other market forces." Replied Macri as news cameras focused in on him.

"If I may ask, Mr. Macri." Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner asked from her seat in congress. "What about the economic benefits of the project? Perhaps you have overlooked that? After all, high-speed rail has proved greatly valuable in other countries like Japan, France, and even our former colonial master, Spain."

"Ms. Fernandez de Kirchner, I am aware of the project's possible, hypothetical benefits. But I believe that the speed is going to be too high for other forms of transport to compete. A train traveling at 350km/h is going too fast for any other form of transport to compete. Even aircraft will be uncompetitive." Was Macri's excuse.

"Mr. Macri, dare I say that you're overlooking the prestige such project would bring us? The first high-speed railway in South America, the fastest railway in the Americas, and the first true high-speed railway in the Americas. It would be a symbol of Argentina's resurgence, of our economic prosperity. Not building it would be a mistake our children, and our grandchildren will regret. We will go down in the annals of history for the mistake we made, and I would not like to accept that as being my fate. Do you want to be remembered for this, Mr. Macri? And the rest of us, dear colleagues. Would be like to share that fate? Argentina has had its mistakes, and its flawed and imperfect leaders, but this should be a unifying project, that despite its cost benefits the nation, and benefits the environment. I digress." Said a PJ member of congress, who after ending their speech received lavish applause.

Final Vote Tally

Argentine High-Speed Bill

Yay---164 votes

Nay---83 votes

Abstained---3 votes

May, 2021
The United States of America

May is typically meant to be a time of celebration in the United States. The school year is close to ending, Summer is starting, and Memorial day caps the month of. An annual day of remembrance for all of the soldiers lost in the many battles to spread the ideals of the Republic to nations far and wide. Which is typically used to mark the beginning of a slew of celebratory months. But this year, there is a more somber aura among the people. Neighbors can hardly trust neighbors. Friends have been ripped apart. Relationships ended. Jobs lost, wages stagnating, gas prices nearly six USD per gallon. The few people that are even able to afford to participate in celebrations this year, are too bogged down by the weight of constant division among the people to even attempt to enjoy themselves. Protests by both left and right wing groups fill the streets of every state capitol every other weekend protesting something new every time it seems. People want change. And it seems like they are no longer interested in waiting for the elected officials to make those changes. Especially after the repeated blunders of the newly elected President Charles Horowitz.

Image

The President and his Cabinet

President Horowitz is generally viewed as rather limp wristed. He often stammers through his speeches. His words rarely carry conviction. Many people question how he won the election to begin with. And much of the people who voted for him already regret doing so. In his first hundred days in office, President Horowitz increased military spending by putting more troops into the middle east. Somehow believing that more spending and deficit growth would be ignored if people could rally around the interventionist mandate that America had rallied behind in the past. But with rising oil prices, the general cost of living, seemingly raising faster with each passing day, the citizenry have not responded well to it.

The Iraq and Afghanistan war continue to rage on. Nearing on twenty years of continuous conflict. The longest individual wars in American history. There have been calls to end the conflict within months of it beginning. But every president elected has gone back on their promise to end these wars. Instead only escalating them and pumping more money out in the process. On the positive side war industry and continued to make America's military a formidable might on the world stage. But as the people of the nation grow closer and closer to fighting one another, that is not as unifying as it once was. President Horowitz, to the displeasure of most, has no intention of ending these conflicts any time soon. Lobbyists from the companies that profit the most off of war industry, keep his pockets full so he has no was to move forward beyond dragging his feet.

Congress

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Noor Patel, is nothing short of a fire cracker of a woman. She has been speaker three times now, each time the Democratic part regains power in the House. Some believe that she is starting to lose her touch with age, but anyone who knows her is fully aware that she relishes is the idea that someone might under estimate her. Nothing in the lower house of congress even gets read without her say so. And she has the support to make sure that that is always the case. Despite the people's perception of the government, people generally approve of Congresswoman Patel. She is seen as strong and capable. a diamond in the rough that is the government. But is truth she is as rotten as any of them. And the latest bill she is pushing towards a vote is proof of that. An omnibus bill, over three thousand pages long, and filled with lawyer speak the average person couldn't possibly hope to understand. Half of the three thousand pages detail new spending initiatives for what the new media is calling 'infrastructure' spending. When in reality it is all going to help fund programs and foundations that Congresswoman Patel as well as many other members of Congress are board members of.

Although one young Republican Congressman, managed to read every page of this bill. He has spoken out against it feverishly. His name is Elliot Hawk. A former veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps for the war in Iraq. He is a freshman Congressman and has been extremely vocal about his opposition to the Democratic Party's corrupt practices, as well as those of the Republican Party. The news media, influenced by these political parties, demonize him regularly. Calling him an extremist and a supporter of racist ideologies even though they have no evidence of it. He not only read this bill and exposed the contents to the people. He did it like online. Reading each page and explaining exactly what they mean over a 9 hour live stream. Congressman Hawk is consequently garnering a massive groundswell of support. All while members of the establishment, like Congresswoman Patel, lambast him as someone inciting civil war.

International News
Today, Samsung has officially announced the movement of their European headquarters. Samsung Semiconductor Europe, founded in 1992, and headquartered in Munich, Germany, has announced plans to build a new headquarters in Athens, Greece, citing the hostile nature of Germany towards Korean nationals and companies. The spokesperson of the Samsung Group stated that they choose Greece due to its friendly stance towards Korea and its commitment to international peace. Critics of this move, however, state that the move was largely motivated by Greece's new business-friendly laws and lower labor costs. Samsung, however, has fiercely denied this stating their commitment towards worker rights and their respect for labor.

No matter what you believe, the new Samsung headquarters will be a marvel of modern engineering, with an official cost of $400 million and with a competition date of 2023. Once completed, the new European headquarters will be 52 stories tall and will include all sorts of amenities, including an arcade room, testing space, free lounges and cafeterias, and even a bar located on the 3rd floor which will be open from 9 p.m to 5 a.m, though only off duty employees will be able to access it.

The Government of Greece and the Government of the People's Republic of Korea have signed a historic arms deal, with the sale of 120 K2 black panthers to the Greek military for 1 billion USD. The Korean Government has stated that the people of Greece are known to be peaceful and are friends of the Korean people, and such sales will tighten the friendship between the two peoples.

Moving to South America, the government of Argentina has invited the Korean government to send a delegation to the country to participate and celebrate their 205th Independence day. The Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of National Defense have replied stating that they will be sending the Prime Minister, Choe Ryong-Hae, the foreign minister, relevant staff, and the first company of the Seoul Color guard to Argentina. However, due to the potential presence of a Japanese delegation, members of the first company will be screened before arriving in Argentina to ensure that no major diplomatic incidents will be caused by any members of the Korean delegation.

Korean News
On May 6th, at the crack of dawn, thousands of artillery rounds were fired into the night sky and air raid sirens blared in the streets of Pyongyang, waking up the citizens living there. Some were too confused and sleep-deprived to make sense of what was happening and sat on their beds wondering if this was a dream. Others, especially among those who lived through the reign of Kim Il-Sung, immediately made their way out of their homes and rushed towards the nearest bomb shelter, fearing for the worst. In the ensuing chaos, 20 people were injured, and 2 cars damaged though no one was killed.

This scene played out similarly across Korea, in the bustling metropolises of Seoul and Pyongyang to small villages situated in rural Korea. Everyone had thought that Korea or Manchuria had launched an attack or raid in Korean airspace, though news quickly arrived from the Central government that this was a periodical air raid siren test alongside a planned military exercise that was currently being conducted by the KPA. According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, the air raid siren and military exercise were mistakingly marked to occur on the same day, causing the ensuing chaos.

"There will be a thorough investigation on this subject and we will find out who or what caused us to overlook this mistake. However, this exercise has been a great lesson for the Korean government and people to better coordinate and prepare for a potential attack against Korea. The chaos demonstrated this morning would have been disastrous in the event of an actual air raid or attack happening. In the event of an air raid, all civilians are to remain calm and calmly evacuate to their nearest bomb shelter."

The exercise itself was truly massive in size with 100,000 troops, 1,000 artillery pieces, and 250 planes being involved. In the north, Korean artillery shells landed near the Korean Manchurian border, while naval ships in the Southern theater command practiced engaging and boarding hostile naval ships. When asked for the reasoning for these exercises, the spokesperson denied all claims of this being a show of force against the Japanese and Manchurian, though he did warn against possible future Manchurian or Japanese aggression.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transportation has announced the expansion of Korean high-speed rail with new rail lines connecting the city of Sinuiju to the port city of Rason, and an expansion of the Busan-Pyonygang line. The new Sinuji-Rason line is proposed to also include the cities, Changang, Ryanggang, and Chongjin. The expansion will connect Pyongyang to Kanwon and Rason which will allow for faster travel between the major ports on the western side of Korea.

May 11,2021;12:32 pm; Havana, Cuba

It was a rather jubilant scene in Havana. On the western balcony of the Presidential Residence was a setup-a podium with some microphones attached. Below was a crowd of around 200 who came to hear President Julio Chavez Fierra speak today. There were also some camera crews televising President Julio’s speech. Many had looked forward to this speech. As the crowd waited, Julio spoke with one of his aides.

“How do I look?”

“You look great, Mr. President.”

“Alright, wish me luck.”

With that, Julio stepped outside. When he did, the crowd applauded and the Cuban national anthem played on the speakers. Julio smiled, waved, and walked up to the podium. A personally written speech lay on the podium. Julio turned to the first page, cleared his throat, and began to speak. The playing of the national anthem ceased, and people began to listen to the President speak.

“People of Cuba, my friends, it is so good to see you all here. As some of you know, this administration has just wrapped up year 2, and in that time we have made significant progress. More roads built for our not so better off citizens, lowering poverty rates, all good things. I plan to continue that progress over the next 2 years of this administration. I strive to set an example for our international counterparts to follow, and to address problems here at home and abroad with utmost diligence and urgency. I will reveal to you, the Cuban people, my roadmap for the next 2 years.

“First and foremost, we must address the issue of the emigration of skilled laborers from our country. These people are a big part of the driving force of our nation, and they and the problems they may face and the reasons they look elsewhere for work must be addressed. And that goes for all workers as well. These all must be addressed, and I have a plan to address this issue. I will propose legislation to the National Congress to increase incentives for skilled laborers in multiple fields. This legislation would include increased subsidies in industries such as construction, auto repair, information technology, and other industries, as well as make a tougher stance on working conditions and workers rights. I will also propose separate legislation to raise minimum wages from 7 Cuban Pesos to 15. This will help many Cubans that are struggling to get by on one job, and may be forced to work multiple. Raising the federal minimum wage will help to lower them need for mothers to work two or more jobs just to get food on the table for their children. These, and more, are out there, and I want them to know that we see them and notice them and are listening.

“Secondly, I plan to propose legislation form a new government agency called the Cuban Foreign Livelihood Improvement Agency that will be put in charge of my plan to help increase the livelihood of citizens in our neighboring countries. This plan will be known as the No Neighbor Left Behind Initiative plan to improve infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, power plants, and broadband internet, in neighboring countries such as Haiti, Jamaica, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. These countries are some of our closest neighbors and allies, and it breaks my heart that many in these countries do not have access to great living conditions. This will hopefully help curb this problem across Latin America and the Caribbean, so that more can live good and happy lives and that ties with our neighbors grow.

“Thirdly, I plan to help bring liberty to our neighbors as well. The British Empire still holds colonies in Belize and Guyana. These people have lived under British rule for centuries, and I believe that now is as good as a time as ever for their dream of self determination to be realized. As such, we will encourage the United Kingdom to hold independence votes in these regions. Our own country achieved our own independence from Spain through revolution, and I hope that Belizean and Guyanese efforts for independence do not reach that point.

“Lastly, I will propose a plan to lower taxes on middle and low income families as well as farmers. I also will lower tariffs on foreign goods, so that they are more affordable for the people of Cuba. We have had some instances of long lines at grocery stores and expensive goods such as food, clothing, and other necessities. No more will we let this issue continue. This plan will lower the costs of these goods, and with lower taxes on middle and low income families, more can afford these necessities.

“These, among other plans, are on my agenda as President. I promise to push for the passage of each of these plans in the National Congress. I hope that the esteemed members of the National Congress see that these are for the greater good of the Cuban people and for people living throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Thank you all for coming here, and let me wrap up by saying God bless you all, and God bless Cuba.”
The crowd applauded as he finished, and the Cuban national anthem played on the speakers once again. Julio turned and walked back in the Presidential Residence towards the aid from earlier.

“How was that,” he asked.

“Brilliant, Mr. President, sir.”

“Thank you. Now, I have some business to attend to.”

“Of course, Mr. President.”

We here in Havana seen the instability and separatist movement in Belize and Guyana with much concern. We also empathize with the people’s quest for self determination, as we ourselves fought for it in the 1890’s.

We hereby call on you, our companions in Westminster, to consider letting these people free. We recommend at least considering hold independence votes in your Belizean and Guyanese possessions, for the sake of freedom and democracy.

The Federal Republic of Australia

May 1st 2021

Australia, once touted by many of its neighbours decades ago as the 'White Trash of Asia' is now known to them and the world as the Jewel of the Pacific. A global tourist hub, financial centre, major trading nation, a middle power and the beating heart of Democracy and Liberalism in the Asia-Pacific; Australia is all these things and more in 2021, but the clouds on the horizon since 2008 have come to bear. There are stormy seas ahead for our nation. While nominally we fall under the protection of the United States, it's been for all to see that we are on our own since the financial crisis of 2008-9. Therefore, the last decade has seen Australia undertake a major restructuring of society, the economy and the Australian Defence Force that has seen Australia transform from a regional middle power into a global middle power punching well above its weight. The great dilemma now that the Americans were out of the game is that without the Nusantaran Federation, Australia is alone in the Indo-Pacific. While alone we may be fairly strong; together we would be stronger, and so it was on the 1st of May 2021, 6 days after ANZAC Day, that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull held a special meeting of the Cabinet in Canberra to discuss this.

"Alright everyone, let's get down to business." the Prime Minister began. " As you may have suspected given the secrecy of this gathering, we're meeting today specifically to discuss the direction of our foreign policy going forward. It comes as no surprise to anyone that the Americans are out of the game, at least until they sort themselves out at home; something which could take years, time we don't have. The British and French seem in no hurry to depart from their colonies, leaving them indisposed to aid us here in the Asia-Pacific. The Germans are ill-prepared as is to face the Russian menace to their east. The Greeks, while a part of NATO, will likely fall into the Russian sphere if the Americans don't reinforce their position in Europe soon. To our North only lay potential foes until Freedom and Democracy is brought to the peoples of North Asia. So you may be thinking at this point that we're alone...well maybe not. Our long-standing trading partners and friends in the Nusantaran Federation, while having growing pains in their young democracy, are a potentially powerful friend and partner should we play our cards right."

"But Malcolm, you do realise that they still have some radical Islamist parties in their parliament that hold significant sway." Interjected the Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison.

"I do indeed Scott, but if we can give our friends in the more normal and Australia-friendly parties some wins with some trade deals, financial support, joint military exercises and should the need arise, joint control over certain territories which they have long prized such as West Papua and Timor, then I'm certain that we'll have a fruitful relationship and assist this young democracy in their formative years." Turnbull replied, "Now, let's send an official letter to President Yassin to express our interest in cooperation."

"Before you do Malcolm, do you think it would be wise to reach out to the Americans and see where they're at?" said Defence Minister, Christopher Pyne

"You're right, but let's not get too involved over there. Our people on the ground tell us that the political situation is spiraling out of control. Best not to tie ourselves to lame ducks, or worse." Turnbull responded. "Ok let's get these letters off and we'll see what kind of response we get. We'll have our regularly scheduled cabinet meeting then; our last one before the budget on the 11th!"

President Yassin,

Our two countries have enjoyed fruitful relations over many years that has brought both our nations great prosperity and security, particularly since Democracy came to the fore just over 20 years ago. As the only other major democracy in the region, all Australians look to the people of Nusantaran as their kin. We seek to expand these ties further in order to strengthen our collective defences should the worst come, particularly with the United States preoccupied by internal problems and China and Japan at loggerheads. In order to facilitate this, we invite you and members of your cabinet to Canberra at your earliest convenience.

We look forward to your reply
Sincerely,

The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull

Prime Minister of Australia

Dear President Horowitz ,

The United States and Australia have shared so much together over the last 100 years. Together in every war since World War One, great trade partners, shared values and a friendship that goes beyond all others. As you know, since 2008 we have undertaken efforts to increase our defence independence and we have far surpassed where we wanted to be ourselves by this stage, however the issues plaguing the United States have only grown worse. A United States which turns inwards is only an invitation to our enemies in Moscow, Nanjing and Tokyo and elsewhere to undermine and attack our interests. As your long-standing friend, we urge you to solve your issues at home as soon as possible so that we may face these threats down together once more.

We look forward to your reply
Sincerely,

The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull

Prime Minister of Australia

Tokyo, Empire of Japan
Imperial Diet Building
May 7, 2021

Nobuo Kishi of the House of Representatives called across the chamber, "My fellow honorable members of the Imperial Diet, yesterday we witnessed an escalation from the Korean regime. We watched as they conducted dangerous and escalatory live fire drills close to Manchukuo, and our eternal ally Manchuria. Their vain attempts to create fear and to harm peace have not gone unnoticed. They have pointed out to our glorious commanders and I a sad truth. We have allowed our glorious and righteous Empire to grow weak. Our military is just a fraction of what it once was. Such an aggressive action would not have been tolerated for one second under our predecessors. They remind us of the enemies on our doorstep, the ones that seek to destabilize peace in the Orient and the ones to the West and South that seek with imperialist aims to subjugate the people of Asia. For that very reason, I have called upon the Minister of the Army, the Minister of the Navy, the Minister of the Air Force, representatives from Manchukuo, and King Yi Won to testify before the House in order to enact an emergency budget." He paused, surveying the room.

"Field Marshal Koji Yamazaki, what is the status of the threats to our nation and our allies in Asia?" Kishi asked.

Field Marshal Yamazaki cleared his throat. "Sir, we are witnessing a changing landscape across the divine Orient. We watched just yesterday only a small display of the possibilities that threaten our allies. While it is a fact that the ground situation in the home islands has never been and is not currently threatened by any fellow Asian power due to our powerful Imperial Navy and Air Force, I cannot say the same for that of the Empire of Manchukuo, the Reorganized Republic of China, or Manchuria. Their provisional armies at best could hold off the enemy for a few weeks at best without our support. However we have allowed our logistical capabilities to decline and we could, at best hold them off for a few months on the mainland without initiating significant military operations across the Tsushima Strait. We are witnessing unprecedented Chinese and Korean force expansion that endangers our very existence. It is shocking and dangerous that Korea, a nation with a fraction of our GPD spends almost double what we spend on defense. If we do not take the necessary steps, the people of Japan will be extinguished from this planet. In order avoid this, it is apparent we need expansion of our amphibious capabilities, our air transport capabilities, as well our ground force. There is no other way to put this, but in order to be capable of the defense of ourselves and our regional partners, we need to give them advanced capabilities and we need a force-wide expansion."

Kishi nodded and thanked the Field Marshal before he turned to Marshal Admiral Yamaguchi. "Marshal Admiral Hiro Yamaguchi, what our our capabilities to counter the threat posed to us?"

Marshal Admiral Yamaguchi stood as he spoke. "Members of the House of Representatives, I am sure you are all aware the Imperial Navy is one of our most important branches of our military, key to transporting our forces and ensuring peace across the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Back during the Shina (China) Incident, we possessed some of the most advanced naval and amphibious capabilities in the world. However in our ultimate aim for peace in the Orient, as well as the peaceful nature of our glorious empire, we have sought to fulfill our obligation to the world by drawing back on our perceived offensive capabilities. We have not needed to send troops into battle on naval transports for a long 76 years. And thus, our capabilities in that field have declined. We have only three amphibious assault ships and six landing ships! While we can count on our air transports to do some of the work, that is limited and more costly. If we are to be capable of proper landing operations, we will need to expand our fleet to include at least 30 more landing ships and dozens more landing craft."

He paused before he continued; "That doesn't take into consideration of our naval capacity. We do have one fleet carrier and four light carriers, as well as 20 more frigates planned with several under construction. But this is not enough to project peace into the region or counter our adversaries. We have only two cruisers! By my staff's estimates, we could do much good by expanding the fleet with one super carrier, a class of four fleet carriers, eight cruisers, and six destroyers. If we also have ships and patrol craft built for our partners, we can further increase the presence of our ships near our shores ready to defend and project the peaceful aims of the Emperor. If we do not complete this expansion, it could be very dangerous for our continued prosperity. We need deterrence. This is how we achieve it."

Kishi thanked Marshal Admiral Yamaguchi and proceeded to turn towards General Tojo. "General Hidetoshi Tojo, what would your great-grandfather think?"

General Tojo gave a small grin but then turned serious. "It has been a long time since the strong leadership of Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, and I can say he would not have been pleased to see the state of our once powerful military. He long recognized the importance of air power, and that is a key factor in how we will win in any future conflict. We have allowed our enemies to expand their air capabilities while limiting the potential of our own. Expansive production of the Nakajima F-23 and of the Mitsubishi F-10 fifth generation fighters as well as continued purchases of the American made F-35s are critical to maintaining air supremacy. As previously pointed out, we also are in desperate need of expanded air transports. There is no other way to maintain security other than this expansion."

Kishi nodded. "You have heard from our honorable commanders. Their words are more than enough to comprehend the threat against us. I have spoken with Prime Minister Suga and his Holiness the Emperor personally. They are supportive of the bill. When it comes to vote, do not forget, our future depends on your decisive action."

Vice Admiral Yamasaki looked at the map of the Senkaku Islands and on another the Takeshima and Ulleungdo. He had been given orders to plan a response to the Korean drills as well as an escort for the Japan Petroleum Exploration Company to the Senkaku Islands. A simple task, but one that could become complicated quickly.

He was aware that JAPEX wanted to deploy its survey ship by the next week, so as such, had ordered that the destroyers Asagiri and Teruzuki as well as the oceanographic research ship Wakasa prepare for deployment. That was the simple mission, as he did not expect any Chinese interference. If everything went as planned, Japan in the coming months would have a new source of oil that could make it one small step closer towards oil independence, and have a new source of profit.

It was the Takeshima mission that was more complicated. It was meant to be a show of force in response to the Koreans, although slightly toned down. From his planning four Japan Coast Guard ships alongside the light carrier Ryuho, the cruiser Furutaka, and the destroyers Atago, Chokai, Onami, Murasame, and Ariake would conduct a patrol in the region alongside planes from the Air Force. According to his operational plans, the ships would be in position by the 9th to begin the small operation.

The Empire of Japan has stood by and watched the increasing disorder in the United States, but now wishes to take steps to act. The United States and the Empire were once enemies, but through collaboration in the Korean War and economically, our nations have forged a new bond. Seeking to find ways to alleviate American issues, his Holiness the Emperor has authorized the Ministry of Finance to investigate into the possibility of gradual foreign debt forgiveness. Japan has long held the majority share of American foreign debt, and in its gratitude for American contributions, it seeks to offer $20 billion in debt forgiveness over the course of four years at the expense of the Empire. It is a small amount, but the Empire wishes to help find a solution towards American stability.

As such, the Empire would like to formally invite the United State to talks in Tokyo regarding cooperation and security with the Prime Minister and his Ministers.

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu

"Chinese diplomacy consists of three things: they will say, do and promise anything for anyone that supports unification." - George Orwell, 1947

Nanjing, Chinese Soviet Republic
My, 2021

Almost two decades was Xi Jinping the uncontested ruler of China, almost two decades being the face of Chinese defiance to expectations. No matter how much his neighbors feared or hated him, the General Secretary was as unmovable as the mountain for his goals remained the same as his predecessors: the expulsion of the colonialist powers in Asia. While it may seem like Nanjing was quiet save for the everyday bureaucracy that keeps the Republic going, already decades-old plans are being put into motion. With the United States is fracturing, the Colonial Empires of Europe on their last legs, Russia content nibbling on Ukraine, and Japan is still on their home island shaking in fear, the Chinese Soviet Republic could finally step into the light and fill the gaps with its immense economic might. The World's Factory has its tendrils everywhere in Asia, even across the Pacific and Atlantic, as Chinese goods can be found in the stores of all six continents. Its tentacles squeezing on the warlord states of Mongolia, Tibet, and Sinkiang while strangling the port cities of Hong Kong and Macau. No matter how hard the Reorganized Republic of China tried to compete, it could not match the products of the CSR, not with the massive portrait of Sun Yat-Sen gazing thoughtfully over Beijing in Tiananmen Square. No matter, the RRC was just a puppet of Japan, any Chinese could see that. Soviet China may not be a true democracy but they were at least free from imperial influence. Just as Chiang envisioned.

Allow us to speak frank, as the western term is called, for your empire has shrunk over the century whose wealth and power wanes on a daily basis. In this reality, you cannot hope to kowtow us once again just as you had done the last two hundred years. Our intentions are clear: return Hong Kong (in the British letter) and Macau (in the Portuguese letter) to Chinese rule once more. Do not worry about being cheated out of a good deal, we are not the Japanese. Your nations will be compensated by turning Hong Kong (in the British letter) and Macau (in the Portuguese letter) into Special Economic Sectors where your investors could gain wealth once more. Worry not of Chinese troops marching into your capitols, European is of no concern to us after all. Only Chinese unification. Your response could decide the untold wealth you can bring with China as a friend.

To the most honorable United States of America, the land of freedom and opportunity, the country in which Sun Yat-sen traveled and learned US law and democracy, the Chinese Soviet Republic extends its sorrow to the turbulence that currently engulfs the nation. Take it from us, we know what it is like to be on the verge of collapse. Fear not, our intentions in this message are purely honorable. We bore no ambitions of Pacific imperialism nor seek a dissolution of the Most Powerful Democracy in the world. We would like to suggest greater economic ties to further bring prosperity to both nations. Dare I say, it could even help you resolve your financial woes. Just as we are the World's Factory, you are the World's Market. Let us join together for a divided world does us little favors.

Why do you seek to ail us so? Are we not all Chinese separated by pettiness? We are the true heirs of Sun Yat-Sen, we are the bringers of stability, prosperity, and independence. Do you truly seek to be under the thumb of the foreign powers who care not of your cultural and historical lineage? Sun Yat-Sen wanted a democratic China, Chiang wanted an independent China, and Dai Li, with all his atrocities, still preserved traditional Confucius art and literature. And we, we want a united China. Join us and property and fortune awaits your people. Whatever doubts you have, bring them to Shanghai, Nanjing, and Beijing so Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping can dispel them with the truth. We are stronger together if we unite.

Korean News
The Japanese have shattered all dreams of peace and stability in Asia after the Imperial Diet passed their latest provocative act, authorizing increased spending on the Imperial military. Emperor Naruhito and the Warhawks in their Imperial Diet have never been content with the current possessions of Japan and continue to lust for more, even though they own Korean and Chinese land, directly or indirectly through their puppets. President Moon Jae-in has already stated that the Workers' Party of Korea will not tolerate any threat to Korean sovereignty and independence and has already condemned the recent Japanese remilitarization effort.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense stated during today's press briefing, "They claim that their empire is peaceful and that they ensure peace reigns across the Orient, yet were they peaceful they invaded Korea in the early 20th century? Were they peaceful when they killed thousands for their perceived disobedience? Were they peaceful when they took the girls and women of Korea with their armies to serve as comfort women in their invasion of China? No! Japan has never and will never be a peaceful and stabilizing force unless their monarchy is abolished, and their military ambitions curtailed! They claim that this was due to Korean and Chinese militarization, yet when has Korea ever decide to invade Japan? To replace their culture and history? To exploit their resources and people? Korea has never and will never do anything of that nature, and that is the difference between our two nations. They claim to be peaceful, yet they have Imperial ambitions that cover all of Asia, sparing no one in their wake. Despite their claims of our nation being a belligerent one, Korea has always and will continue to be a peaceful nation, that respects the rights of the people of Asia! Even now, they wish to cower to us with their most recent naval exercise held off of Dokdo Island, but the people of Korea will not be cowered so easily, and the government will respond to this most outrageous example of Japanese aggression."

According to the spokesperson, 12 J-20 fighters, and the Dokdo light carrier, along with the cruiser Sejong the Great, and the destroyers Admiral Yi, Kim Il-Sung, and Hyeogmyeong have already been departed from Ulijin and will mirror the movement of the Japanese forces to ensure that they do not cross over into Korean waters.

The Standing Committee of Korea has also passed legislation to allow for the Central Military Committee to use the emergency military funds, and the subsequent withdrawal of 15 billion USD to purchase weapons and other weapon systems from foreign nations. This fund was set up during the leadership of Kim Il-Sung and was expanded under the Kim Jong-Il administration to allow for emergency withdrawals without the consent of the President of the People's Republic of Korea.

President Moon Jae-In has also announced the expansion of resource mining in Northern Korea to much controversy. It is estimated that the natural resources held in North Korea range anywhere from 6 trillion to 10 trillion USD, though mining has stalled due to recent environmental concerns. President Moon has stated that "Korea must have a strong economy and prosperous people before it can worry about the environment. Far too many Koreans still live below the poverty line, and we sit on natural resource deposits that are larger than the Japanese economy. We need to take actions now to help improve the economy."

The People's Republic of Korea has long admired the power and resilience of the Russian and Chinese military and the technology it uses. Therefore, the Central Military Committee would like to negotiate with its counterparts in the Russian and Chinese military to discuss a potential arms purchase worth up to 15 billion dollars. The Peoples' Republic would like to express its interest in Russian and Chinese ground and aerial systems along with potential naval ships.

We are thankful for your consideration.

The Cities News

The Head of Council goes up to the Head of Council chair. His political party, that once followed him to the ends of time, is falling. In the 2012 Election, his party won 90 seats. Now, it's down to 65 Seats. The party may be close to spliting, as the Moderates are becoming more and more angry with the Parties Direction. This is mostly due to Younger Greeks and Younger Turks not having a distaste of each other. He goes to the Podium and begins to speak. "My fellow Men and Women of the Court. I would like to announce that the Tourism economy is dropping. We need to-" before he can finish his sentence, leader of the Turkish Muslim party, Faik Öztrak, Asks him "Why do you talk about Tourism? Shouldn't we talk about the Violence that is spreading across the country? Isn't that more important then Tourism?"

The room fell quiet. Nobody interrupts the HOC, but Faik Öztrak did. Another man, leader of Conservative Party, Ioannis Plakiotakis, spoke up. "He's right. We must stop the violence, or we will fall into Anarchy. I post the Bill of Human Rights. This bill would not end but help the Human rights violations." While the law hasn't been voted on yet, it has already gained mass support by Young People, and Moderates. The bill states that All men and women are created equal, and that by no Circumstance can people be found innocent for hate crimes. Hate crimes would become Illegal, and Riots would also. Police Officers would also be found guilty if they let a convicted criminal go just because they follow the same religion. It also states that Religion can't go into deciding who to pick for the job. The vote will happen on May 22nd.

Meanwhile, The Head of Police Chief stepped down due to him becoming old. The New HOP was announced to be a 24 year old. He was making there be reforms across the Police, as he has already done a few things. One of these things was push for more Repersentation of Muslims in the Police. He passed the Police Executive Act of 2021, which stated that No people can be refused due to there Religion. He also is pushing the Army to unban Muslims from the Army, due to him being worried about the Bill of Humans Rights.

The Army Commander has also used the extra funding to announce the Brand new MK 1 Defender. The MK 1 Defender is a Anti-Tank weapon that is still in development, but they plan to get it ready in action by late 2021 to early 2022. The Airforce is also looking into getting more people involved, but young people refuse due to Muslims not being accepted. A anyomous Airforce Member said "We need to accept Muslims into the army or else we are going to keep losing members." The Naval Officer was asked questions, but refused to answer any.

Dear President Charles Horowitz,
Your nation needs support. We all see that the United States may be on the brink of a civil war. Nobody wants that, so we will support you if things goes bad. You can always can on us for support, and we know that we all must work together to keep peace.
-Council of Constantinople

Dear Russia,
We here in Constantinople are hoping to keep great relationships with the Russian Government. I propose a meeting In Moscow, where we can discuss a Possible Alliance, due to us both being Orthodox. We must keep Orthodox control over the Black Sea, and a Alliance would surely do that for the nation. We would be thrilled to work together in future scenarios. If you ever need us, we will help you.

Moscow, Kremlin
May 16th, 2021

The Kremlin was as always an imposing reminder to the power of Imperial Russia. The Empire which spanned from the Baltic to the Pacific. While looking from Red Square or other venues would yield a pretty relaxed environment. Small groups of politicians, functionaries, and technocratic chiefs paced in the pleasant Spring weather. Discussing everything from legislation to what they'd be having for dinner in the evening. The offices of the executive branch, specifically that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Headed by Minister Sergey Lavrov.

A series of diplomatic messages had been directly cabled to the Russian government from vastly different areas of the world in rapid succession. Each needed to be handled with seriousness and collated by possible short term and long term ramifications. The first of which to pass through the Imperial Committee for State Security's (ICSS) apparatus, Imperatorskiy komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti (IKGB) or often rendered shorthand as 'The KGB' by Western sources, was an invitation from Argentina. A relatively straight forward invitation to be sure. But all diplomatic cables went through the IKGB which in turn collated and copied them for their own records along with certified copies sent to the higher up Imperial Security Bureau (ISB), Имперское бюро безопасности/Imperskoye byuro bezopasnosti, which in turn answered only to the Tsarina herself. Which, while the loyalty of Lavrov was never in question by the Empress or for that matter Putin, Lavrov's immediate superior, the officers of the ISB and by extension IKGB swore loyalty to the Empress and institution of Empire itself, rather than to the government of the time. As such no one was above suspicion in their eyes.

As such Lavrov could only sit and wait outside the office of his boss. Vladimir Putin. A pair of soldiers in the livery of the Taman Guards stood outside. Imperial Guardsmen. Who in turn, unlike the Army, also swore loyalty to the Tsarina instead of the State. A knock and one of the guardsmen slid a white glove over the ornate door knob. Opening the door briskly to allow a modestly sized man through. Putin moved out of his office and paused in front of Lavrov.

I know what you're doing, ex-IKGB agent rising through the ranks in the chaos of the early 90s. You're getting old, retiring soon, permanently I imagine. Yet, you trust no one else to succeed you and accordingly the one person you've been grooming, who you know shares a degree of your sensibilities deemed sufficient, to assume a modern L'Estat c'est moi. You want to, via the Constitution of our great nation, secure true power for the Crown. You may have the rest fooled, but not I, not after all these years.

"Sergey, these are quite the differing dispatches." Putin's low tone snapped Lavrov out of his mental monologue. Pushing his glasses up further onto the bridge of his nose the older Minister of Foreign Affairs licked his lips before speaking.

"I thought it best to go over the Argentine invitation first. I will have an Ambassadorial delegation arranged with an honor detachment to participate in the ceremonies."

Putin lifted the invitation, as if weighing it in his hands, "The Empress herself will be attending the Argentine anniversary."

Lavrov mentally chided himself to have expected such an answer, but he still played dumb to it, "I was unaware of Her Grace's decision."

"It was made quickly and informal. I trust Foreign Affairs will cable Buenos Aires a direct response on secure channels?"

"Will be done before midnight."

Putin held out some other missives. The dispatch from the Japanese Empire on top. "Formal response to the Japanese accepting talks over such a deal. Same to the Koreans."

Lavrov bit his lower lip, it was an obvious play at being neutral to what was essentially a powderkeg rivalling the one in the Balkans over a century prior, but there was the ideological empowerment for the Communists that this could entail. Korea and China were extremely close and so it could be assumed they'd disclose documents to China. Further, an arms race between China and Korea versus Japan would severely damage East Asian trade, economic prospects for the future, and could quite frankly lead to a massive conventional confrontation that drew in surrounding nations. "You know this arms race will lead to one of two outcomes eventually?"

Putin pulled out a small envelope. Lavrov gingerly took it in his hands, opened the slip, and pulled out the small paper with handwriting he was very familiar with. Eloquent strokes, feminine curvature, gentle accentuations. This was the Empress' own handwriting. Directing him specifically to prepare talks with Vietnam, Australia, and Manchuria. She was trying to shift the scales to favor an international bloc of containment for a possible East Asian showdown. Clever girl

Lavrov handed the letter back. "Her Majesty's orders are clear."

Putin smiled as he left his older colleague standing in the hallway.

The replies would go out at just past eleven at night, Moscow time.

The Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg was oft the residence of the Tsarina herself. It was her favored residence and close to other Imperial Palaces such as Tsarskoye Selo. She preferred Saint Petersburg to Moscow to say the least. Something about the beauty, the landscapes, the history of her family practically embedded into the urban confines of what was once the Imperial Capital. Now, amid the pleasant light of an oil lamp, which was a personal quirk as she hated stark lighting. She wrote down information. Notes, important data points, transcriptions. She was not content to play the part of monarch. She had been raised, trained, not to just reign. But to rule. As such, she preferred a more hands on approach to the operations of what was technically Her Government. As such she busied herself slaving over Legislative bills, to understand their contents, to learn law, and to understand the dance of international politics. Having a demanding tutor greatly assisted on that front.

But, there was also another reason. She wanted to be personable to her people. As such she balanced between government administration and getting to know the happenings of Russia itself. The joys and plights of its multitudes. Stacks of news articles, clippings, and even audio recordings were piled neatly on a table nearby. The ornate phone rang. Her pen still flowed in her hand for not just one ring, but two, and three. Until in one swift motion slender fingers gripped the ornate gilded neck of the receiver. Pulling it up, cable stretching, she held the phone to her ear.

"Your Grace." The voice of her Head of Government made itself known. Even if he was not in the room.

"I trust you have a matter of grave importance? To be dialing me so late." A cheeky response to a man who had essentially served as almost a second father to her. Indeed, she did earn a small chuckle from him.

"The situation in America. What do you make of their affairs?"

"I see a nation ready to be at its own throat. Horowitz may have more than what he can handle given the polarization of his own Congress."

"Hmm, well perhaps that may be so for now. I for one believe this to work in our best interest. A most curious young politician there shows great promise."

"This would be the Elliot Hawk you spent two hours yesterday talking my ear off about."

"Young blood for the pride is a good thing. Perhaps it may work in our interest. I thought it best to keep you in the loop, as no doubt the Americans would say, regarding our observance of him?"

"Spying on an American congressman?"

"Everyone no doubt spies on each other. Its the name of the game in the intelligence world, Your Majesty. I merely wish to see how accurate our cards truly fall in the whole ordeal."

"Well, you do not require my permission to begin such a venture." A deflecting confirmation of her agreement. At face value it was careful separation of Crown from Government. Eliminated a degree of culpability should things go sideways. Her tone of voice spoke otherwise. She was in agreement, just only he was mentally aware of it. The phone abruptly went dead on the other end. Leaving the Empress to glance out the tall windows of her study onto the dark grounds beyond.

The United States of America
May 17th, 2021

The presidential seal of the President of the United States of America is one of the most recognizable in all the world. The eagle, with an olive branch in one hand, and a quiver of arrows in another shows the wide breadth of power that can be invoked with this simply seal laid upon a letterhead. Although, in these tumultuous times, President Horowitz is rarely the one to stamp this seal on official documents and diplomatic letters. In fact, as the United States receives a flurry of diplomatic transmissions in this month of May, not a single one reaches the President's Resolute desk. Instead, they are taken and replied to by the Vice President, Maeve Dolonescu. A woman with a sharp tongue and a witch's cackle for a laugh. Vice President Dolonescu is not the most liked politician. She is routinely polarizing and to many is known to be deep in the pockets of the rotted establishment political group. President Horowitz is not unaware of Vice President Dolonescu's control over Presidential communications. Unbeknownst to the public, this was actually part of the deal that got him the nomination for President by the Democratic party to begin with. To most of the world, Horowitz is in control. Among the higher ups of the Democratic party, it is known that he is nothing but a kind an unassuming face to put to the most corrupt orders that the party wants put in place. And to put to the responses, that Vice President Dolonescu writes to the nations of the world.

To the order of The Argentine Foreign Ministry,

We are delighted and honored to accept your invitation to join in your Independence Day festivities. The United States of America has long stood for democracy and independence, and we shall gladly accept any offer to celebrate these things. I do regret to inform you that I will not be able to personally attend. Although I will send my Esteemed Vice President Maeve Dolonescu in my place. Please treat her as though she were myself.

Respectfully, Charles Horowitz

To the order of The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull,

I greatly respect the shared history of our nations. And the United States of America shall always support a nation's growth and desire for independence of all sorts. Although, I am afraid I must protest to your characterization of our internal affairs. Protests and demonstrations, even of the violent nature, are part of The United State's rich history. The right wing extremism in this nation shall quell once my office has the required time to implement our new policies. You speak of it as if it is a coming civil war we have on our horizons. When I can assure you nothing is further from the truth.

Respectfully, Charles Horowitz

The United States of America will gladly accept the Emperor's generous offer to aid in alleviating our debt. It is not one I take lightly either. Although, I am afraid I must protest to your characterization of our internal affairs. Protests and demonstrations, even of the violent nature, are part of The United State's rich history. Further, The United States of America would be delighted to send our Speaker of the House of Representatives, Noor Patel, to speak with your Prime Minister and his Ministries further on furthering our cooperation and security between nations.

CNN News Broadcast

The buzz around President Horowitz's actions in the past week, as well as small news leaks showing how the nations of the world are viewing the internal strife America is facing, have created a media buzz. Forcing House Speaker Noor Patel to take to the airwaves to try to spin the news in that favor of her party. As controversy and conflict drives ratings, CNN chose to also bring on the increasingly popular Congressman Elliot Hawk on for an informal debate between the two. The CNN news anchor, Don Lemon, shows clear bias towards the Democratic party. Something that might push away a more Right leaning Congressman like Hawk. But he clearly is not shying away from the challenge.

Lemon: "Speaker Patel, President Horowitz signed into law this week a bill you yourself authored. Can you go into some more detail on why this bill is good for the people of this nation?"

Patel: "Of course I can Don. But first, I'd like to just take a moment, and thank you for having me on today. Every time we, as representatives of this nation, have the opportunity to speak more candidly to our constituents, it is a blessing."

Hawk: "That's only because you only do it when things go wrong."

Lemon: "Excuse me Congressman Hawk please allow Speaker Patel to finish her response."

Hawk: "This isn't a response! It nothing but her usual fluff meant to wastes time and make herself look good. If she really wanted to speak more candidly to her constituents, she would be online or on camera every day doing exactly that."

Lemon: "I won't ask you again Congressman, I expect a level of decorum on my program. Speaker Patel please continue."

Patel: "Thank you Don. As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted. It is a blessing to speak to you all today. And to explain that this new spending budget that President Horowitz signed will put trillions of dollars towards our nation's near crumbling infrastructure. It will create jobs and allow us to build ourselves back into the self reliant nation, that I know we can be once more."

Lemon: "Thank you Speaker Patel. Now, Congressman Hawk, you recently live streamed yourself reading Speaker Patel's bill in what many are calling a 'publicity stunt filled with mischaracterizations.' How do you respond to those allegations."

Hawk: "I don't respond at all to blatant media manipulation of the facts Don. I read Speaker Patel's bill word for word. Live, unedited. If reading every word is mischaracterizing something, then that is the fault of the author not the reader. Further-"

Patel: "Ah yes, put all of the blame on someone else. Truly the mark of a good representative."

Hawk: "I was elected to represent my district. Not to represent whatever lies you want to feed to the American people. This bill is a travesty of spending that will increase our deficit, line the pockets of career politicians like Speaker Patel, and betray the promises made by both her and President Horowitz made in their efforts to get elected in the first place."

Lemon: "Congressman I will not have you tossing out baseless accusations and conspiracy theories on my program."

Hawk: "You also clearly won't have fairness on your program either. Where was her warning when she interrupted me just a moment ago? Or did you forget the rules of your own 'program'?"

The debate ended shortly after that, by the demand of the producer behind the scene. The effects of this debate were quickly seen online. Half of the internet we making videos claiming that Congressman Hawk 'Owned' Speaker Patel. The other half were lambasting Congressman Hawk for his brash and uncouth nature while applauding Speaker Patel for her calm and stern demeanor. An event that now doubt served to split the people even further apart with each passing day.

The Cities News
May 21st, 2021

After weeks of discussion, and the Date being brought 3 days earlier, the Bill of Human Rights passed as 53 members voted yay while only 44 voted nay, and 3 abstained. This was some live discussion from the Council. Faik Öztrak started the discussion by thanking the young people with all of the peaceful protests. He thanked the members of the council for coming and started his speech. "My fellow members of the council, this is an issue for the men and women of Islam. This isn't about how the economy is doing, this is how we must save this nation from the amount of hate that has seeped into our great nation. I wish for the people and for the council to realize that the revolts were long ago, a past age. Do not let fear make your decision, instead make your decision out of confidence." HOC wouldn't speak at all during the meeting, for one reason or another.

There was a fierce debate between Faik Öztrak and Far right political canidate Failos Kranidiotis. Failos started off by saying "A great disaster will happen if we let Muslims own fire arms. There will be another State of emergency! Have we learnt nothing from our past? The men and women of this court, please do not forget that this bill will clearly anger thousands. I would love to sign this bill, but I can't risk another violent conflict." Faik looked at him and said one sentence to him. He said "You Fascists disgusts me!" Failos responded with "Just because I want what's best for the people doesn't make me a Fascist. You know your point of view is wrong but you need the votes. You don't care if it passes or not, you just want to look like the hero in shining armor. For the people who have forgotten what hes voted on, I have a short list." Failos clears his throat and says "Faik voted Nay for the Defense Allowance Act which would've let Muslims into the army. the final vote? 48-49-3. If he truly cared about his people why didn't he vote yes?" Faik looks at him. He responds with "You also voted No, why are you lecturing me on this." Failos looks at him and says "Because I follow my principals." And Failos left the court room, refusing to answer any questions we had.

The internet is split who won the debate. Some says Faik won due to him staying more calm, while others claimed that was why he lost. One internet post says "ngl Failos(who I hate) did have good points. He clearly won this debate." Faik said this when coming out of the council "The nation will celebrate the Muslim allowance into the army and being able to have guns, but there is still much to do." Ioannis Plakiotakis looked extremely happy with the result, for one reason or another. Some say it's because his party won the vote, but on the other hand, some say the only reason Ioannis Plakiotakis voted Yay was to weaken the nationalists. Whatever the reason was, the bill pasted, which upset the polls, who had it voting yay working at only a 20 percent. Meanwhile, local man who was in poverty bought lottery ticket and won 140 Million dollars.

Failos Kranidiotis first public show up since the debate was today at 11:00 AM to visit the Navy and give a speech. His speech was "My brothers in the navy, I have come to announce that our first ever battleship, is being developed. This ship will be the strongest our city has ever seen. We call it "The Straife Watchers". During his speech, the YPAAF(Young People Alliance Against Fascists) came and began chanting "What do we want?" "For Failos to stop be a Fascist!" "When do we want it?" "Now!" Failos eventually finished his speech and went home, which was recently leaked by the YPAAF. Protests are currently happening outside his house. This is what he had to say about it. "Its sickening, really. Having people leak where you live due to a political disagreement. I have recieved countless Death threats and my family has been targeted aswell."

We would like to mention that, just please do not leak peoples home. I don't want people getting hurt over political opinions. We here at city news tries to keep our opinion out of discussion, but I just can't tonight. I honestly can't keep quiet about this. The YPAAF did something wrong by leaking a persons home. This is something I can't keep living with myself If I were to keep quiet. Please YGAAF, stop making yourself the violent ones. We must stay calm in these times or something very bad will happen. Alright back to the program. As we speak, Council has planned to meet up again on May 26, and we will cover that news story live.

Dear President Charles,
We here would like to say our dearest apologies to saying you are brink of a civil war. While Protests like that in our small nation means civil war is coming, We here in the council forget about how massive the United States is. We would also like to mention that we will be hosting a Parade on May 26, the day we are coming to council. We are hoping to keep relations good. Also, do you have any experience on protesters leaking house addresses? If so, please tell us so we can keep Failos Kranidiotis safe.
-Council of Constantinople

Dear Russia,
Excellent. We will send a envoy to Moscow as we speak. We hope that we will have another good meeting. We will support you in any conflict. We didn't denounce you for a reason in 2014.
Keep this message out of the wrong hands.
-Council of Constantinople

Dear Korea,
With the historic vote that Japan made, we would like to better ties. Please respond quickly.
-Council of Constantinople

Dear Greece,
We would like to announce the Bill of Human Rights have passed. I hope for the continuation of good relations, and Vice President of Greece, do not worry! Reforms are coming. The Young people are the future, and they want to change us into a more accepting culture.

May 12, 2021;11:48 am; Cuban Embassy in Tokyo, Japan

The Cuban Ambassador to Japan, Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos, had just been informed by his aid of the Japanese Imperial Diet's recent passing of the Emergency Defense Spending Authorization Act, which would increase Japan's military spending. "Dear Lord, what do they think they're doing?", he said to himself. He knew quite well of the instability in East Asia, and this certainly wouldn't help things much, if at all.

"How are we supposed to deal with this?"

"I'm not sure. Perhaps a second opinion wouldn't hurt."

"Yes...a second opinion..."

Miguel grabbed his phone, then dialed President Julio Chavez Fierra's number. After going through a few secretaries, the President was reached.

"This is President Chavez Fierra."

"Ah, Mr. President, this is Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos, the ambassador to Japan. I have just been informed that Japan has passed legislation to increase their military funding, which is not very smart, in my opinion, considering the instability in the region."

"Ay, ay , ay...that is not good."

"So, I was not sure how we should respond, so I sought a second opinion. And who better to ask than the President himself?"

Julio chuckled. "Oh, come now, enough with the flattery. Well, I advise requesting a meeting with your Japanese counterpart and advising the Japanese to think more about the consequences of their actions, and to warn that we may not be able to tolerate their acts of warmongering in the future."

"Yes. From what I understand, this is in response to a widespread wartime drill in Korea, which has really spurred some confusion."

"The response still stands. Request the meeting as soon as you can."

"Yes, Mr. President."

Miguel hung up the phone, then drafted a letter to the Japanese.

Operation Gaman

As the sun rose in the early morning, Vice Admiral Yamasaki stood aboard the light carrier Ryuho, gazing over his fleet. He ordered a radio message be sent out to Captain Arikata, aboard the Imperial Japanese Coast Guard's massive patrol vessel, the Shikishima. "Remember our plan. We will first move to transit the waters off Takeshima, then next off our island of Utsuryō (Ulleungdo). Once there we will turn west abruptly, heading to an area 24 miles off the coast of Sanchoku (Samcheok), from there traveling around Korea to Manchukuo but remaining 24 miles from the Korean coast at all times. Once in Manchukuo, we will make a port visit and our short operation will be effectively complete."

As a flight of a Kawasaki P-1 patrol plane escorted by two Nakajima F-23 fighters raced overhead providing reconnaissance, the small fleet of 1 carrier, 1 cruiser, 5 destroyers, and 4 Coast Guard vessels began their mission. Within two hours they had reached their first stopping point, the Takeshima Islands where they sounded their horns in salute to the Coast Guard station there, before proceeding towards Utsuryo Island. There the Ryuho launched a patrol of two F-35s which returned an hour later, just as the fleet entered the most dangerous part of the mission. Now, five hours after their mission had started, they would continue 24 miles away from the Korean coast. It was expected Korean forces would follow, but now for Vice Admiral Yamasaki, it was time to go on alert.

The passing of the Emergency Defense Spending bill has generated much excitement among commanders in the Imperial Japanese military, who now raced to send orders to its industrial partners and ramp up recruitment. While a new recruitment drive was underway, the representatives from the Imperial Army, Navy and Air Force now met to discuss force expansion.

Marshal Admiral Yamaguchi laid out a file on the desk where the three top commanders sat alongside technical experts and government ministers. "From the Navy, our planned expansion is the most straight forward. Of course, we intend to send order for one super carrier, to be named the Akagi Class, two fleet carriers, two amphibious assault ships from the Japan Marine United Corporation design submitted in 2019, 30 landing craft based on a modernized Miura class, eight cruisers, and six destroyers. At Imperial Navy General Staff Headquarters, we decided we did not need four fleet carriers, rather that it would be best to obtain an order of amphibious assault ships which can carry our new Osprey aircraft alongside two fleet carriers. This means we have more funds to invest in landing craft."

Prime Minister Suga nodded. "That seems good enough. What of the cruisers, will they have more offensive strike capabilities?"

Yamaguchi gave a small grin. "Our newest cruisers will have a similar design to the American Ticonderoga class, except naturally their design will be modernized. They will represent some of the most capable ships in the Pacific once completed."

Field Marshal Yamazaki chuckled, "If only our planned purchases were so clear. We will be ordering at least 500 more Type 10 tanks since they are the only one light enough to travel safely on most Japanese bridges and roads. We may also purchase more artillery, other tanks, helicopters, and SAM systems, however we are leaning towards purchasing these from Russia or the United States. Other than that, we will purchase 50 more AH-64D attack helicopters from Fuji and around 300,000 new Howa Type 20 rifles to replace the Howa Type 89."

"Very good. What of the Air Force?" replied Suga.

General Tojo gave a slight bow. "Sir, we are planning the purchase of 100 F-23 and F-10 fighters, as well as 5 refueling aircraft and 80 transport aircraft. We also plan to put some of the funding towards our 6th generation fighter project to further enhance our capabilities in the future."

Suga nodded. "I trust that the services will be able to sort this all out. You have my permission to send out the orders immediately."

Statement from the Imperial Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs
For Public Release

The Empire of Japan strongly denies the allegation made by the illegitimate regime in Keijo (Seoul). The Empire's guiding principle, formulated by Our Great Illustrious Imperial Grandsire, has always been to contribute to world peace and to ensure stability in East Asia. The current force expansion is not intended to be hostile, rather it is to ensure peace and prosperity across the divine Orient and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. While our adversaries, seeking to cause reckless trouble, point out the funds going towards peace projection, or false allegations from the past wars, completely ignoring the funding we are pushing as foreign aid to the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere as part of the bill. This funding in which will improve security and prosperity of their people.

While Japan only seeks for unity and greater cooperation among Asian states, the illegitimate regimes that have survived in Keijo and Nanjing seek to obstruct peaceful discord in every manner. The Empire reassures its citizens and the people of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere that it will respond with overwhelming might to any aggressive military action originating from Chosen (Korea) or Communist China.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu chuckled when he was handed a copy of the Cuban letter. He laughed with the aide, "What are they going to do about the Emergency Budget Act? We have already passed it and a portion of the money spent!"

He then became somber. "Send a reply welcoming them for discussion. They will naturally align themselves with the Koreans in every dispute. But if they make it an issue, then the matter will leave our ministry and become the Ministry of the Army and the Ministry of the Navy's problems."

He looked around the room and spoke to his aides. "Remember, we are not going into this to argue with the Cubans. They cannot possibly understand the affairs of Asia from his Holiness the Emperor's divine point of view. What is done is done, and they are too late to do anything. I would say to not give them an inch, but we don't anything to give them except our assurances!"

Argentina, May 18th

National Atomic Energy Comission, Bariloche Atomic Center

Journalists from both at home and abroad were crowded into a meeting room, with a stage at the front crowded with well-dressed officials was a model on a table. Cut in half, it was clearly the model of a nuclear reactor. Photographers took photos of the model, with flashes of light filling the air, occasionally blinding the panel members. One of the members signaled to the photographers to stop taking photos, and the flashes came to a halt. Then, one of the members addressed the crowd of journalists.

"Ladies, gentlemen, and peers of the scientific community, I thank you for making it here today. I know that this is not the usual venue such announcements are held in, but unfortunately, our Buenos Aires offices had a plumbing failure and are currently deemed unusable. Anyhow, today is not about plumbing, at least not in the sewer sense. The model you see in front of you is a very humble mockup of the possible future of nuclear power in Latin America, and maybe the world." Remarked one of the panel members, a bald man wearing a light gray suit, a blue shirt, and a black tie.

"This is the Argentina 1500 reactor or the A1500. It takes into account the latest safety features initially tested on the CAREM reactors along with further improvements to reduce the frequency of reactor refuelings. Inherently, the size of the reactor is significantly larger and takes into account the need for greater power output and greater thermal power requirements. The reactor comes with a high-advanced, current-generation containment structure, and uses three 500 MWe turbines for a total designed output of 1,500 MWe. It is, undoubtedly, a record competitive on the global stage." Explained a female member of the panel, dressed in a dark blue dress suit.

"Aditional equipment like the cooling system, backup generators, and everything else are up to the customer." Explained the first panel member before asking: "Any questions?"

"Yes." Said a journalist whose badge said that she worked at El Economista. "What is the estimated unit cost of one reactor?"

"We have no idea." Replied the second panel member.

"No idea? Proded the journalist. "Hardly seems reassuring, then again, what can be expected from a government that is willing to splurge five trillion on a high-speed railway."

"With all due respect, ma'am." Chuckled a third panel member a bit nervously before saying: "While I can reveal the funding necessary to develop the reactor to the stage it is currently in, final construction costs have not been calculated yet."

"Any further questions?" Asked the first panelist.

"Yes." Stated a male journalist whose ID said he was from El Día. "Will there be a reactor prototype, or will the reactors go immediately into production?"

"Immediately into production." Curtly replied the third panelist.

"Isn't that a bit unsafe, not testing the design beforehand?" Inquired the journalist.

"Not at all. The CAREM and Argentine-made CANDU reactors have given us sufficient information to determine the design is safe. Certainly, we cannot be 100% certain, but the risk is incredibly low, incredibly low indeed. Frankly, this design is very safe, we've had no incidents of note with our reactors, so I as well as my peers have full confidence in the design." Said the second panelist.

"President Scioli." An aide said as he addressed the president.

"Sit down, Mateo." The president told the aide before asking: "What news do you bring me?"

"Messages from abroad. The Cubans, Japanese, and Greeks have all responded to our formal invitation, with many very, very, high-ranking guests set to arrive. We can expect princes, generals, vice-presidents, and obviously the usual diplomats. Of course, the AFI is taking all precautions deemed necessary." Replied the aide.

"Excelent." Smiled Scioli.

"There is also talk of a proposed multilateral bill regarding new military equipment for the navy. After all, it seems that both great powers abroad, and our regional friends have acquired capabilities we cannot hope to match with our aging vessels. According to the upper echelons of the navy, their greatest procurement priority is that of new frigates, destroyers, and submarines. Our current vessels are in some cases nearly half a century old, and the TR-1700 submarines aren't meant to last much more than forty years." Stated the aide as the president listened intently.

"I see." Mussed the president before asking: "And do our friends in the navy any specific vessels in mind to acquire?"

"No, sir. But it is likely the Spanish will be the most willing to sell us designs and transfer technology others may not be so willing to transfer." Explained the aide.

"Alas, their vessels still use American technology in some areas, namely the radar if I remember correctly. But, that should be something that can be solved effectively, I assume. After all, we have our own systems, customized for our needs."

"With all due respect, Mr. President, this could be an opportune time to acquire nuclear submarines. Perhaps the French would sell us some technology under the table to produce our own."

"Look Mateo, the only way the French would sell us such technology is if they are fully trusting that we will not upset the regional balance. A nuclear submarine fleet along with brand new destroyers in Argentine hands might be enough to even make Chile bend the knee. And that will frighten the UK with their pitiful force on the Falklands, that even now could not defend itself from us if we chose to go down that path."

"Indeed so, sir. Shall I notify Mr. Macri?" Asked the aide.

"Macri is proposing this bill?" Asked the president.

"Yes, sir. He is." Replied the aide.

"Do please let him know. Tell him I full-heartedly support it and will sign it if he can pass it." Responded Scioli.

"I will, sir." The aide said as he then left.

"Actually, Mateo, tell Macri that I will handle this purchase. There is no need for a bill or a congressional resolution." The president said as the aide nodded.

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Defence that new vessels must be produced for the Argentine Navy, and by the selection of the highest echelons of the Argentine Navy, the taste is being offered first and foremost to Spain and specifically Navantia. Our two nations have a long shared history both in the defence industry and in all other fields. The navy has requested the possible acquisition of eight F100 air defence frigates and eight F110 multirole frigates as well as two Juan Carlos I Class amphibious assault ships. Licensed production of the frigates has been requested by the navy.

Is this something Navantia is willing to do? Already, this is a highly demanding project that will involve a high degree of cooperation between Spanish and Argentine companies. If possible, a price estimate for the total cost of the project as well as a response regarding the willingness of your nation to participate in this endeavor is requested.

The Argentine navy is interested in acquiring nuclear submarines and the technology to construct them, ostensibly one must turn to the experts when dealing with such fields, and as such, the Argentine Navy has selected France and the Naval Group to be turn-key project assistants. What is being requested are the blueprints for the Barracuda Class submarine in both its nuclear and conventional forms as well as technical assistance and a production license to construct the vessels in Argentina.

Accepting this project will be of invaluable strategic and political value when it comes to relations between Argentina and France. The strong relations between our two nations, and the mutual trust present ensures that there will be no proliferation of nuclear weapons or the misuse of these vessels in Argentine hands.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson rubs his temples as he feels a headache coming on as he reads intelligence reports on the ongoing uprisings in the British colonies of Uganda and the Sudan. The said uprisings started 15 years before in 2006 causing then Prime Minister Tony Blair to withdraw a majority of British troops from both Iraq and Afghanistan to deal with the rebellions. 15 years and 20,000 casualties later, British public opinion had turned against the wars and asked that they withdraw from Uganda and the Sudan then just grant them their independence. After lengthy discussions with the King and the Leadership in the Houses of Commons and Lords, it was decided it was time to bring the troops.

Lieutenant General Ronald Williams,Commander of All British Armed Forces in the Sudan, is standing at a round table with his various sub commanders going over plans for their next offensive when a corporal walked in and stood behind the general saluting, "General Sir, I have a message directly from the Prime Minister Sir."

Ron nodded, "At ease Corporal." the corporal eased before handing the general the message. Ron opened the message and began reading it. Ron's expression was a look of shock which caused the various officers in the room to wonder what the message said. Ron dismissed the corporal then turned to his officers with a broad smile on his face, " Well everybody, looks we are finally getting out of this hellhole." Everybody began celebrating knowing they were going home soon.

British troops to withdraw from Uganda, the Sudan

In a shocking and surprised turn of events, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced at 2:00 PM GMT that British troops will be withdrawing from both Uganda and the Sudan. He said that once all British Armed Forces have completely withdrawn, each colony will granted their independence and assistance will be given to help set up new governments. This withdrawal was done with the blessings of both King William and Parliament as they believed that too many lives have been lost and was time to bring our men and women home.

The Federal Republic of Australia

May 12th 2021
Outside the Japanese Embassy, Canberra

Following the revelation that Japan was rearming in the name of “peace” and the protection of their puppets, hundreds of thousands of Australians marched across the country to protest. From Auckland to Port Moresby to Perth to Hobart and in the heart of the nation, Canberra, protestors posed with banners denouncing Japanese Imperialism, calling for justice for the victims of war crimes committed by the Japanese during the Second World War. Australia had suffered much during that war at the hands of Japan, and there were stories in almost every family of their participation in the war that was handed down the generations.

One song that was first popularised during the First World War had also made a re-emergence with new lyrics, aimed at Japan. Outside the Japanese Embassy in Canberra, it was blasted over loudspeakers.
“There are lots and lots of arguments
Going on today
As to whether this new Tojo
Should bring us into the fray
But all right thinking people
Know well we have to fight
For Tojo’s old Empire
Needs some putting right

Rally ‘round the banner of our country
Take the field with brothers o’er the foam
On land or sea, Wherever you be
Keep your eye on Tokyo
But the free people of the world
Have no cause to fear
Should Auld acquaintance be forgot?
No, No, No
Australia will be there
Australia will be there

You have heard about the Mutsu ship
Cruising all around
She was sinking Australian ships
Where’er they could be found
But one fine morning early
The Sydney hove in sight
She trained her guns upon them
And the Japs said ‘goodnight’

Rally ‘round the banner of our country
Take the field with brothers o’er the foam
On land or sea, wherever you be
Keep your eye on Tokyo
But the free people of the world
Have no cause to fear
Should Auld acquaintance be forgot?
No, No, No
Australia will be there
Australia will be there!”

Office of the Minister for Foreign Affairs

“Peace projection? Pah! Yeah right. Anyone with half a brain knows exactly what that means.” Said Foreign Minister George Brandis after reading a media release from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Someone get me Malcolm on the line.”

“Right away Minister” responded one of his staffers.

“I knew things were bad, but if the Japanese are building up and, presumably the Chinese too, then there is clearly going to be a showdown sooner or later; arms races like this only heighten tensions, much like Anglo-German Naval Arms race of the first decade of the 20th Century.” He thought to himself.

“Minister, the Prime Minister is currently in a meeting with some industry leaders. They’re asking if it’s necessary to pull him out of the meeting. Oh and we’ve just received messages from Moscow, Singapore and Washington DC.”

Brandis took one look at the missives, realising the magnitude of the Russian one, before replying to his staffer.

“Well it certainly is necessary now…and get the rest of the Cabinet too; they’re gonna want to see this.”

That Afternoon at Parliament House

“George, Malcolm, what’s so urgent to call us all into Cabinet?” Asked the Social Services Minister, Scott Morrison.

“We’ve received messages from Moscow, Washington and Singapore. As well as that, the Japanese have issued a statement which quite frankly alarms us.” replied Brandis
“Frankly, the Americans are finished in Asia. Even in private conversation they’re acting like everything is fine and normal, which it is clearly not. Until they get their internal affairs in order, there’s no point contacting them. The good news is that the Nusantaran Federation has accepted our request to meet and are agreeable to increased ties and cooperation. We’ll organise a time for us to meet as soon as possible, but the most urgent reason we’re here is the Russian message. They want to talk.”

“But why now? Wouldn’t they be interested in Japan overpowering China?” Interjected the Minister for Health Peter Dutton.

“Without looking into it deeper, you’d think so, but the Russians are more interested in the status quo we suspect”. responded Brandis “A more powerful, even hegemonic Japan in Asia would give the Russians a headache in their East; always suspicious of their nominal friend and ally. That is something the Russians can hardly afford if they seek to maintain their position elsewhere, let alone expand their control. And so they want us to send an emissary to Saint Petersburg. Whether we’ll be met by the Empress herself or her government remains to be seen, however it would be an insult to send a mere diplomat if it is the former. Therefore, I’d suggest that I and the President go to St Petersburg.”

“I’ve already spoken to President Costello,” said Prime Minister Turnbull, “And he’s agreed to go with George. All we need is to agree as a Cabinet on it.”

A vote was then taken by the Cabinet, with the unanimous decision being taken to send the Foreign Minister and President to Saint Petersburg for their meeting on the 22nd.

“Now as to the Japanese….” began Turnbull, “Say the Russians cut the support for the Japanese. Who else do they potentially have in the region to help them? Alone against China, it would be, at best, a pyrrhic victory for Japan. We need to make that the only potential outcome other than peace.”

“Well the other players in the region are Korea, Vietnam, the Nusantaran Federation, the British and us.” responded Brandis. “ The Koreans will no doubt support their communist brethren in China, the Vietnamese balance the equation out in their support for Japan and the Nusantarans are with us. The only potential problem we have is that the British and Japanese both have the common interest of keeping the Chinese down and weak; the Japanese because they seek to colonize China and become the hegemonic power of Asia and the British because they want to keep Hong Kong. I don’t see how we could offer the British a better deal than Japan, but we could at least make it a painful decision for the British. I’d argue we send a message to the British, congratulating them on their decolonisation of their East African colonies, and add that if they continue on their path; particularly in our region, then we would be more than willing to negotiate a free trade agreement."

"Very well." Replied Turnbull, "Let's get these messages out and you get on the next flight to Saint Petersburg with President Costello!"

Prime Minister Johnson,

Australia sends its congratulations to our great friend in the British Isles on successfully pulling out of Uganda and Sudan. We hope that you continue to provide support for the people of these new nations and raise them as you did us over a century ago.
We hope that this is a sign of things to come, with further decolonisation, particularly in our own region. Our only exception to this of course, is Hong Kong. Hong Kong has become a hub of democracy, capitalism and freedom in Asia that could not exist without the presence of Britain. Our great fear however, is that in an attempt to preempt Chinese threats that Britain will not look to its traditional friends, but the more powerful and aggressive Japan. Let us be clear, we will stand with you in Hong Kong as we did in the last war, but if you act alongside Japan we will not be so kind.

We look forward to your reply
Sincerely,

The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull

Prime Minister of Australia

Jakarta, West Java, Java, Nusantaran Federation (Nusantara)
It was a very peaceful and sunny day in Jakarta, the state capital of West Java. It was also one of the largest cities in Nusantara and might be considered to be the Southeast Asian version of New York City. It is a centre for economy and culture in the island of Java.

A 60 year old local, Joko Sujarwo, was taking a walk down the streets of Jakarta as he always do. Dressed in an Hawaiian shirt, shorts, sandals and a straw hat, Joko passed by shops and other buildings. He has always been walking in the streets since his retirement. He waved his hands at familiar people he had known before. He used to work as a cab driver, a job he was comfortable with. Nothing was out of the ordinary that day.

However, Joko noticed a car that drove into an alleyway near a restaurant. He thought it was strange, so he went to investigate. Just as he was nearing the alleyway, a man in a blue hoodie, pants, boots and a face mask ran out of the alleyway. Joko was baffled by the man's appearance.

"Where are you going?" Joko asked, but the man didn't respond and was far away now. Some people saw the man too and were confused by seeing him running away for no reason. Joko turned his eyes towards the alleyway and noticed a red 2019 Toyota Corolla. He wondered what the man did with it or if the man was the driver. Joko went a little further towards the car. He took a closer look at the car. A chef from the nearby restaurant went out to throw out some trash when he noticed Joko and the car.

"Hey, did you park here?" the chef asked.
"What?" Joko responded.
"Did you park that car here?" the chef asked again as he was walking towards Joko and the car.
"No, it isn't my car", Joko answered. "I was only looking at it."
"Well, if it isn't..." the chef didn't finish before the car suddenly exploded. The chef fell to the ground and blacked out.

5 minutes later, the chef woke up slowly and tried to rise up from the ground, but was unable due to a strange feeling. It felt like some pain, but it wasn't so severe. He was hearing a ringing sound, as if it was the result of an explosion. He took a look at the car and was horrified to see that it has exploded, as well as the fact that Joko was nowhere to be seen. What the chef saw was some blood and limbs that was blown all over the place. He heard some screams and sirens. Another chef exited the restaurant and saw the scene. He looked at the chef.

"Hey, are you alright?" the other chef asked. The first chef was too shocked to respond.

In other parts of Jakarta, other similar car explosions occured. One occured outside a Ritz-owned hotel, another at a parking lot and a third near a hospital. The bombing at the hotel killed 25 people, the bombing at the parking lot killed 18 and the bombing at the hospital killed 10. The bombing at the restaurant only killed Joko Sujarwo and severly traumatized one of the chefs. Together, the bombings killed 54 people. What was left of these sites were car rumbles, large smoke, blood and corpses (aside from some survivors that were lying on the ground due to pain and the impact of the explosions).

Police and EMS arrived to the crime scenes. Police were heavily armed and patrolled around the places where the bombings occured before expanding to the rest of the city. It was very shocking and would likely make big news.

Shortly after, a broadcast was made by the perpetrators behind the bombings. In it, an elderly Muslim man presented himself as Muhammad Rizieq Shihab, the leader of Islamic Defenders Front (BPI), an Islamist pressure group that was banned back in 2020.

"Dear citizens of Nusantara, I have a message for you. The blasphemy that has plagued your country for so long must now come to an end. That is why I have a set of demands for you to follow. The first demand is to uphold Sharia across Nusantara. Blasphemy must be stopped and the Quran shall be respected. Certain freedoms must be sacrificed in order to achieve this. The second demand is to unban my organization. My organization is your country's only hope in the fight against blasphemy and imperialism. The third demand is to expel all Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Australians, Americans and other foreign infidels from Nusantaran soil. They are seeking to exploit and control Nusantara at the cost of our own will, independence and rights. The fourth demand is to remove Naomi Yassin from power. A woman shall never be allowed to rule, as such position should only belong to a man. Women are expected to stay at home and obey their husbands, as well as other men in their lives. Men are more responsible than women and family values must be upheld at all cost. If these demands are not met, then more attacks will happen. Please be wise next time, Nusantara. Allah Ackbar."

President Naomi Yassin has yet to make a statement and authorities in Jakarta are still on high alert.

"Good Evening everyone, this is Simon Blackwell your anchor for this evening of Global News Network's In the Hot Zone. Where we take you around the world to see real news, breaking headlines, and perspectives of the people living the stories you're about to here." Turning to the side, the well kept, slick style of the news anchor with an ever distinct New Zealander accent indicated to his right. The camera panning out to allow a view of a man in a suit with a south-west Asian complexion. The pin on his lapel, that of the East Turkmenistan Republic, giving away his nation of origin.

"I am joined this evening by Mister Mehemmet Al-Nur from the East Turkmenistan Republic. Regarding political pressure being leveraged by the Chinese Soviet government. Mister Al-Nur, if you please."

"Thank you, Simon, as your viewers may or may not know I work as a spokesperson on behalf of the East Turkmenistan Foreign Ministry. Which the Chinese often refer to as Xianjiang."

"And the Chinese Soviet still refer to your nation as Warlords?"

"Yes, Simon, see in the eyes of China the East Turkmenistan Republic, Manchuria, and the territories population by Mongolians, yet run by their own local governments are all illegitimate."

"I know both your nation and the Mongolian territories have had trouble gaining international recognition for decades."

"That is correct, and why my government will be putting pressure into the UN to formally recognize the East Turkmenistan state as an independent, Uyghur, nation. We have been independent and self-government since the end of World War Two. It is about time that we finally sever any connection with China."

"Do you think the Chinese will pressure for a forceful military occupation as a means of unification of former Han administered areas?"

"Well, East Turkmenistan is not aware of the details pertaining communications with other nations but my people firmly do not want Chinese rule."

"Well there you have it. Now, we go to a message from the Dalai Lama."

The camera cuts to an image of the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, who is the spiritual leader and in many cases ultimate authority in Tibet. The wizened looking man was speaking to a gathering of monks and Tibetans in Kathmandu. Thousands coming to see him speak and pray. But his words, while peaceful and without fiery rhetoric, calmly rejected Chinese attempts at spreading their rule across Eastern Asia.

"And we're back." The refined look of Simon Blackwell once more dominating the screen as he once more began to speak in a more dour tone. "Heartbreaking news from the Nusantaran Federation. A series of explosions, clear acts of deprived terrorism, shook the city of Jakarta today. Fifty-four innocents killed and many others wounded. Already, via our contacts across the globe, an outpouring of solidarity. The French, Spanish, and Portuguese governments have already pledged support to the Nusantarans in fighting radical Islam in their nation. While the nations of Brazil, Peru, and Canada both offered support to the Nusantaran government. Particularly, to its current head of state."

Simon cleared his throat as he shuffled some papers. "Other breaking news, the British Empire's sun gets a little closer to sunset. Declarations from the United Kingdom this week announced a withdrawal from Uganda and Sudan. Both regions being the sign of a violent insurgency that the British military has fought for decades. But now the question is, what's next? What is the British exit plan? Is there one, and what does it look like? How will this affect their other colonies in Africa? Already the British Pound and Stock Market took a slight hit. Now trading several cents closer to the United States Dollar as consumer confidence over the stability of Britain's economy is shaken by this declaration. While the British stock market reports greater movements from fiat to lower yield, but stable, rare material assets. Now to Europe."

Artillery and rockets firing into the sky. The sound of mortars and the flashes of shells bursting in the distance. A Ukrainian military helicopter patrolling the horizon. A common and almost normalized sight for the regions of Ukraine's eastern territories in the Donbass. Despite lulls in active operations by both sides, and a present armistice, tensions ran hot in Kiev when President Zelensky reported that Ukrainian Army personnel were fired upon near the armistice lines in the village of Karlovka. The Ukrainian Army replied in kind with artillery and mortar strikes. According to the Ukrainian government some twenty-three separatist fighters were killed or wounded. While the next day rebel forces launched a major artillery and rocket attack along Ukrainian lines. Killing and wounding close to one hundred Ukrainian soldiers. The accuracy and ferocity of the assault catching many off guard and further reinforcing claims that the separatists were receiving Russian war material and training. Citing that the rockets fired upon them were from BM-21 Grad launchers and that Ukraine stands ready to defend itself from a Russian assault should the time come.

The Chinese Soviet Republic is honored and humbled by your invitation. Such Argentinian generosity that allows us to demonstrate the Chinese's restored might in your 205th Independence Day parade will not be forgotten. Rest assured, Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping has given his blessing to send 200 of the finest graduate of the Whampoa Naval Academy, Admiral Su Zhiqian, as well as myself, Wang Yi to Argentina. Long live the two republics!

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi

Signed,
Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi

Prime Minister Johnson shakes his head at the sheer stupidity of this letter from the CSR's Foreign Minister. He decided to call in his Minister of Foreign Affairs Angela Thompson in his office. After waiting 30 minutes, Angela arrives at 10 Downing Street and is ushered into the Prime Minister's office.

Angela decided to start this discussion with the Prime Minister, "Mr. Prime Minister sir, is there something I do for you?"

Boris nodded his head in the affirmative, "Please call me Boris. I called you in here to discuss the terrorist attacks in Nusantara, a possible alliance with Japan and the CSR basically demanding that we hand over Hong Kong. What do you say about this?"

Angela thought about this before answering, "Well Boris with your permission, we can offer Nusantara military support by sending a company of SAS troopers from Hereford to assist Nusataran military personnel in hunting for these scumbags. Now a possible alliance with Japan does sound interesting but we need to take into account our former dominion Australia. If we do decide to go through with this alliance, Australia and a few other nation will be alienated by it because they will see it as a betrayal. What the CSR seem to ignore is that the people of HK are British citizens and are given the same rights as the citizens here in Great Britain plus HK is our main naval base in the Pacific. They will have to offer us something extremely valuable for us to hand over HK."

After continuing discussion, three letters were sent out,
