How Do Television Stations Closedown in your Nation

Postby Independent South Africa » Thu May 20, 2021 7:24 pm

How do television stations end their day in Your Nation like if they play the National Anthem or immediately switch to the Test Cards
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In South Africa , RTE 1 South Africa (the Irish Language Service of the SART (the legal successor of the SABC) ends their day like this

https://youtu.be/OATZfBcBtb0
it usually Begins after the SART Nuus agt Tien

then a ad for Telefunken is shown
https://youtu.be/Oni4Fk2Q7is

A Program Guide for RTE 1's program for the following day is shown with Music from the SABC Archives (now owned by the South African Radio and Television Organization (SART) ) an example of the music that would be played in the program guide is the Big Hurt , released in December 12 ,1959 by British South African Singer , Toni Fisher . Most of the Music would be 1950s Music since the Archives only hold music from 1946 to 1964 (with some 80s music being played but it is rare)

https://youtu.be/WrlFgP_paOc

Image

the Music is then played through the Clock with the announcer saying " With the time going to 11 minutes to midnight , we now switch over to Afrikatext but if you are going to bed , then from all of us at RTE 1 , this is Pieter Malan wishing you a goodnight , Goodnight

Image
the music stops and the ident is shown , then the English version of Die Stem van Suid Afrika is played over the Ident
https://youtu.be/xzTeOGCGiVU?t=261

After that , the God Save the Queen Flim clip from 1957 back when the SABC first started Broadcasting in Television is shown ( the clip was first shown in 1952 in South African Theaters when the King of South Africa , George died)
https://youtu.be/8zCAuBJZhuY

then it switches to Afrikatext though in some cases , People manage to receive signals from the United Australasian Commonwealth via E Skip such as South Pacific Television's own closedown

Most stations merely move to the test cards, though many don't do any. Some will run an instrumental of the national anthem, and on the day the nation formed, June 10, the anthem is ran on most channels.

In Destyntine, television stations normally close with an exit message from the host, and a preview of what will be covered tomorrow. The holograph will then display an aesthetic scene along with synthwave music until the station re-opens or the channel is switched. These scenes will transition at the end of every song, displaying a new one every couple of minutes. The hologram can also be programmed to instead show statistic information while a station is down instead, what the weather is in different locations and stock market changes will transition.

In terms of stationed owned by workers, they may choose to have whatever sign off they may like (within the bounds of media law of course, along with nothing that may cause dangerous/other negative interference). In terms of government-owned stations, sign-offs typically have a clock ident much like the Eastern Bloc, with noises of a fan playing while the clock goes. For televisions that cannot be kept on overnight, the broadcast detects that your television cannot be kept on overnight, and a warning in the national languages (along with the provincial languages) along with an arrow pointing to the button on the TV that toggles on/off will be displayed.

Edit: Also, there is a way to access test cards manually: simply hold right on the TV remote for 30 seconds. For some TVs, there will appear a red-colored countdown on the top left, counting down until the 30 seconds are up, after which the test card will be displayed. For other TVs, though, there is no displayed countdown, although if you do the procedure, you will still access the test card. Simply press right again to exit the test card screen.

Sign-on and sign-off sequences aren't particularly common and are quite rare in Zhouran in due to high prevalence of 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week broadcasting.

The end screens are relatively uniform in their slow transition to black, before a brief illumination of the nation's coat of arms. A panoramic and varied depiction of scenery, landmarks and historical figures are shown in a quickly-edited montage backed by the nation's anthem, then that of the Internationale, then that of the Prime Minister's personal hymn. There is then looping text informing prospective citizens the day's broadcasting schedule has concluded, and a list of opening hours for each channel.

Sign offs start off with a closing announcement, followed by the national anthem. The anthem video shows the Crossoverian flag being waved as montages of Crossoverian aspects are shown, ending with the portrait of the current Supreme Leaders. The channel then displays a sign off signal, whether it could be a clock, traditional music with fire heating, or commanding views of Assateague, the largest city in Crossoveria. Never SMPTE bars or static.

Television stations in the Democratic Republic do not sign-off in their traditional sense, as the practice gradually faded away starting in the early 1980s, with stations owned by the public broadcaster, the GBC, (with the exception of GNN, a 24-hour news network) continuing to sign-off at 2.00 and signing on at 6.00 until 1995.

Sign-off procedures were standardized by the Broadcast Act 1952 and consisted of the following:
- An announcement informing viewers of the channel name and number, the broadcasting company that owns it, and that this is the end of their broadcast day
- A statement on what time the channel will resume broadcasting, along with the program that will be airing after sign-on
- The playing of L'Internationale, the national anthem of the Democratic Republic, with stations being allowed to play either the official French-language version or the instrumental version
- Following the national anthem, a simple message informing viewers to turn off their television sets as soon as possible, followed by a test card for three minutes

As the Broadcast Act 1952 is still enforced, television sign-offs are still mandated by law. In the modern day, television stations will simply 'sign-off' early in the morning (typically between 5.00 and 6.00, local time) and then immediately sign-on after sign-off before the early morning news program.

Since television became mainstream since the 1950s all TV stations sign off like this:

Between 12:00 - 1:00 A.M. most stations sign off. There is a test card and announcer says something along this: “This is [INSERT STATION NAME AND TELEVISION NETWORK] This Concludes our broadcast day. The national anthem plays and once it is over the same announcement is made and the test pattern stays on the air between 1:00 - 5:00 A.M.

No television station originating from Aikoland signs-off, as 24-hour broadcasting has been the norm since the mid-1990s. Prior to the mid-90s, however, stations would sign off by simply announcing their station identification, ownership, and that this was the end of their broadcast day, playing the national anthem, and then displaying the Aikolandais flag for 5 minutes before displaying a test pattern until broadcasting resumed the next day.

UNN never closes it's broadcasting, due to 24-hour coverage of news.

Other channels may close as follows:
The host will wish a good night to all, and then our national anthem is played, after which a test card will be placed until broadcasting begins again. Fairly standard.

At the time of the sign-off point, television broadcasts are required to have the broadcaster (if live) or a recording read a specific script. Likewise, radio operators are required to do so as well, providing they sign off. There is no mandate to sign off, but most stations do it anyway. Layman/ham radio operators are also required to do this if and when they sign off. Ham radios are only required to perform this action once every twenty-four hours.

The script for radio is this:
On this day, this DATE DAY of MONTH, in the Year of Our Lord* FULL YEAR, I/we has/have concluded our broadcast temporarily/for now/today/at this time/etc., at TIME AM/PM . FREQUENCY STATION NAME AM/FM REGISTERED LOCATION is a lay/commercial/government/religious station owned and operated by REGISTRANT/CORPORATION/HAM OPERATOR'S NAME OR HANDLE/GOVERNMENT AGENCY.

The following block of text is not required for ham radio operators:
FREQUENCY AM/FM was permanently licensed by the TurtleShroom Holiness Board of Censors at DATE in the Year of Our Lord* YEAR under LICENSE NUMBER.

Ham radio operators have no licensing requirements or restrictions, except that they cannot share a broadcast frequency with another local operator. This is why that block is required. The courts settle this dispute, with the senior broadcast defeating the new one.

Finally, all broadcasters are required to finish as this:
It is our honor to serve. This is FREQUENCY STATION NAME AM/FM, signing off. All rise for the National Anthem of the Great Bountiful Empire. (*ANTHEM PLAYS*)

The station then falls silent.

Televisions operate slightly differently. At the time they sign off, they play the TurtleShroomian National Anthem. A picture of a large flag of TurtleShroom and the Protestant Flag or other denominational flag, flying on a flagpole against a blue sky, is displayed as the anthem plays. Most channels show both, but no one is required to show a Christian flag. The national flag is required.

After the anthem ends, the flag fades out and the Station Identification Sign is played. There are two different versions. One is for the only state-owned channel, and the rest show the same one.

The above graphic is in English, however. It otherwise matches the picture.

Channel One is used for weather and emergency alerts, crime alerts, air raid alerts, nuclear warnings, and any other form of emergency broadcasting. It is the only channel that has the authority to override and interrupt a broadcast on a different channel.

All other channels use this:

Once the Station Identification Card is displayed, a loud buzzer, followed by the Emergency Broadcast Alert noise is played at full blast. The Emergency Alert voice then reminds viewers to turn off their television. A subsequent declaration that it was only a test is proclaimed, and the reminder is repeated.

As with OP, Allaneans and Menelmacarites joke goes that TurtleShroomian televisions are of such vintage quality that they will set fire if left on all night. This isn't true, but rather, it is a warning to prevent CRT televisions from burning out. Most televisions in TurtleShroom continue to use CRT.

Only some television stations still close down at night in Australia. This includes children's stations, sports stations, local stations, and some others. In these cases, after the final programming of the night, the station will broadcast either a half-hour sign-off screen (typically a countdown or clock) alongside various music or simply a short sign-off message at midnight.

Stations that typically run 24/7 include music-video stations, news stations, and vocational stations. Some stations will simply re-run the day's programming overnight (for the benefit of night workers), whilst others have dedicated night-time programming (i.e. world news).

The last program to air is the Tagadan 3, the midnight news service. After the news ended at 00:40, the screen would switch to an analog clock with the simplified logo of the radiotelevision service (RTPR) in a blue background. The ticking clock is accompanied with a narrator wishing the watchers good night. When the clock strikes at 00:43, the clock will fade, revealing only the TV logo. Circles like this that represent radio waves will start circling around the logo until it became smaller, until the thing that's left is the logo itself. A subtitle that reads like "The program has ended" is available below the logo.

After this, the scene cuts to the national anthem video clip, featuring (in order) the Eternal Fire of Sagren, Pirusavian flag, peoples in the city standing to the flags, workers and peasants giving respect to the flag, some landscapes (mountains and rivers), and finally, the flag of Pirusavia again. After the video fades out, the screen cuts into the TV's test card (PAL) with a medium static tone, before getting replaced by random pop music for the entire night until dawn.

Vex, being the only provider of news in Untecna, has separate channels for news and other media. Channel 1, specifically for news, closes down at around midnight Nova Time, and ends with the national anthem being broadcast with patriotic backgrounds. Afterwards it switches to a test card until precisely 6:00 AM Nova Time.

Channel 2-5 close with test cards or static images.

A station ident is shown; optionally, a message from the station (typically wishing the viewers a good night) is played. The ident fades into a test card showing station information and broadcast schedules, while a snippet of the Aldish national anthem plays. This test card is required to remain viewable for fifteen minutes after sign-off and before sign-on.
