Well, to give more context the character in question is basically suffering from a number of diseases- namely ALS (the disease Stephen Hawking was suffering from) and fatal insomnia. Basically in MT level of medicine she would’ve been long dead, however since this character is in a PMT, she is kept alive by an extremely complicated machine which is almost always replacing every single cell in her body. Essentially she is more dead than alive, still, finding strength inside herself to stay alive.

Physical issue is outside of my expertise (I mainly write mental issues) but as far as I've known, the people who are disabled are not defined by nor wish to be defined by their condition. It is an undeniable part of who they are, but it is not all of who they are, and it's not well received to turn them into an "omg sick person inspiring" personality. Yours might come close, but largely, I think the biggest part is that disabled individuals want to read and hear about people like them; your character shouldn't just be ALS and FFI, and besides, it's more dynamic and interesting for everyone involved to have a character that can't just be described by their disability. If you want a better insight, I've been told of this here tumblr blog that does answer questions on this topic.

Laka Strolistandiler wrote:I understand that making a character that solely revolves around being physically and/or mentally disabled is bad taste and even worse writing as it essentially replaces all feasible means of character development with a single “meh he’s disabled”. In my case, while her illnesses play an important role in her character development, it’s definitely not her only character trait.
Basically the main idea behind the character is that a person with a strong enough willpower can endure whatever life can put on one- and even though her life is essentially almost constantly drifting between “nearly dead” and “clinical death” conditions, she neither the less manages to somewhat enjoy it, finding fun in the small things. However making her a too positive character might be a bad thing too- because of this I’m planning to give her sort of hatred towards those responsible for her vegetative state as well as make her extremely unempathetic- basically in order to make her “a grey” character. Is this a good idea?

It's an idea for an non-II RP that has to do with a cooking show without any major drama or anyone dying. So it's a bunch of contestants in a Iron/Master Chef show and all they got to do is cook recipes that the show demands, where they have to compete for a cash prize of 1 million. Each contestant gets their own style and introduction, where it's a borderline reality show for them.

I don't see any issue, although "major drama" seems a bit hard to enforce considering the emotional baggage some nations put onto their characters. Otherwise, it's definitely a relatively uncommon angle, which isn't inherently a problem.

I agree with Shwe. Also, I would put it in the Nationstates forum, not II. That's where those seeking character RPs tend to look. But yeah, if the world song contests and school RPs can happen and become as regular a thing as they have, not to mention sports RPing, there's no reason your Iron Chef take off couldn't. Not everything has to blow up all the time. Unless it's a fragile chef's ego.
I'd love to see your idea become a regular NS franchise and submit a contestant when I get more time.

I made this account a while back as an exercise in trying to break into the National and International Roleplaying side of NS, but it didn't really go anyway besides some attempts at roleplay that fizzled out pretty quickly. I think I want to try my hand at that again, so any ideas?
