The powers of old that have stood since time immemorial now stand assailed on all sides by the forces of liberal democracy; the slaver-regime of Qassadia continues to falter, a nation standing stoically with its allies in the Empire of Aureumterra, for now sticking together in a Traditionalist Axis with Ejorike. Yet with the winds of change come challenges. The Aureumterran Emperor finds himself constantly at odds with his entrenched aristocracy, while the eternal meddling of the Polish Prussian Commonwealth and Lauzanne - with their League of Free Nations poised to rescue the enslaved Cassadian "Living Property Unit" Bell Hancock and expose to the world the atrocities of the von Peacekrafts.

All the while, Americae Roma watches with concern and steely interventionist resolve as enemies arise across the globe, calm yet wary as opposed to the violent belligerence of Palmyrion. And, just below the surface, the Eurasian Strategic Co-operation Bloc begins to make its moves towards finally dismantling the dying beast of liberalism once and for all...

Aureumterra 1 Restaurant Bombing in Reykjavík as Crown moves to Crack Down on Terrorism in Iceland April 24th, 2021 REYKJAVÍK - A restaurant in Central Reykjavík, Bragðið, was shaken with a powerful blast at approximately 14:20 Tuesday afternoon. The Crown decreed an overhaul of security forces in Iceland in March of last year, which included strict enforcement of checkpoints, nighttime curfews in cities, and tight regulation of travel. Furthermore, efforts are being continued to civilize the people of the island and stamp out what remains of its heathenry as part of the Empire’s global mission. The bombing is the latest in an uptick of terrorist attacks in Iceland recently, following the increased security measures decreed by the Crown six months ago. Despite this increase in terrorist violence, the new security measures have successfully rooted out and apprehended numerous terrorist cells associated with Sjálfstæðisher and it’s sympathizers. Furthermore, Imperial Army security forces have successfully destroyed multiple rebel encampments in the interior of the island since last year. "No amount of terrorism will ever succeed. These cowardly attacks on innocent civilians only show the true weakness of these groups." Commented Governor Pedersen. Pedersen was appointed to his position by HIM Emperor Frederik IV in October, alongside the increase in security infrastructure in the territory, in an effort to finally wipe out the terrorists. "Their inevitable defeat is at out doorsteps, attacks like these only show their desperation." Pedersen said. The Crown has not made an official statement regarding these attacks yet.

Premier Announces Infrastructure Program for Eastern Russia

In a speech to the State Duma, Premier Zhelezkin unveiled a new infrastructure program targeted primarily towards Siberia and the Far East. This program, named Подключения 2025 (Connections 2023) aims to completely overhaul infrastructure in the region. In the announcement, the Premier pledged to construct over 500 KM of roads in the region by 2025, with the principal aim of linking isolated settlements and encampments with major highways and commercial centers. The scope of the project covers almost the entire region East of the Urals, with special attention being given to Sakha, Krasnoyarsk, and Nenets along with additional infrastructure improvements from Novosibirsk to Buryatia, Tuva, and Irkutsk. Additionally, for the first time in history, a highway connecting Kamchatka Krai to the rest of Russia has been planned as part of this project.

This project aims to link many of the most isolated communities in the world, such as Tatar Encampments and villages in Nenets and Soviet Era industrial towns to the rest of Russia by road. Without the need of flying, the transport of goods into these areas will be far more efficient and cost effective. This will essentially connect a large amount of people who were practically isolated from the Russian economy for the first time, or so the Premier has pledged. Furthermore, additional branches of the Trans-Siberian Railway connecting to the most isolated settlements in Kamchatka have also been planned, the first major expansion of the historic railway in decades.

The scope of this project not only covers new roads and railways, but also seeks to renovate and revamp existing road networks in the Far East and Siberia which are currently in poor condition. Many roads which have fallen into dilapidation and disrepair since the dissolution of the Soviet Union remain practically unusable and settlements connected by them have become increasingly isolated and degraded. The Premier has promised to repair these roads and make sure all roads in all regions of Russia remain maintained and up to date.

The size of this project has raised many concerns, including the feasibility of carrying such ambitious construction projects out in climates as inhospitable as the ones of Eastern Russia. Many experts raise concerns regarding permafrost patterns and the degradation of roads resulting from it. Others have pointed out the massive cost of this project, claiming it is a poor use of money as compared to other places to be allocated. A spokesperson for the government has said that the potential economic benefits of this far outweigh the costs, as this new infrastructure could also greatly boost the mining industry of the country.

The focus on such an ambitious internal project hints further towards the Russian government’s policy of relative diplomatic isolationism and neutrality in global conflicts. As tensions between alliances and factions grow around the world, and nations become more and more belligerent, the Russian government had made its policy of absolute neutrality clear. However, activist groups and politicians within Russia have begun clamoring for change, calling for the nation to take a stronger stance against those perceived as enemies on the world stage. The government has rejected these protests, alleging them to be propped up by foreign powers and intelligence agencies from abroad, and continues maintaining its policy of domestic improvement.
