I haven't seen a thread on this surprisingly, but as the title says, this thread will be about what your nation has done and is continuing to do to stop the virus. Please don't post here if your country isn't facing the issue.
New Jeromia first started reporting a few cases in March of 2020. Numbers were small and centered in the Southeast of the country. The capital city of Givozo was originally hit the hardest, and they shut down unnecessary businesses on March 21st. 2 days later, on the 23rd, enough cases had been reported in other parts of the country that the federal government ordered all unnecessary businesses to be shut down, and unnecessary access to the country was cut. For both of these incidents, there was a 2 day grace period. When the whole country shut down, the first ever nation-wide activation of the JeromiAlert emergency warning system was initiated. This would set off everyone's phones, tv's, radios, and emergency sirens would sound. This ended up causing unnecessary panic in some places, and people flocked to grocery stores making supplies run low. Though the government expected this to some extent, supplies were still low and relief funds would help out lower income areas in getting food and medical supplies.
On April 4th, the government announced that schools could reopen in areas with low levels of transmission. This was considered a risky move but with precautions such as physical distancing, mask wearing, and frequent hand washing, it was considered feasible. Most schools slowly phased in hybrid learning and eventually full-time in-person learning. Over the summer cases went down, with international travel still being banned, and by the fall some areas eased up on mask mandates and other precautions. On September 11th, the federal government made a requirement for all school districts to resume at least hybrid learning by October 12th, citing low cases in schools and lower community spread. Winter of 2020 experienced some increase in cases but nothing too bad. In fact, on January 4th, the government put out another requirement for schools to resume full-time learning by February 8th. This was extended to the 22nd due to a surge in cases.
Beginning in January, vaccines were made available for healthcare workers, emergency responders, teachers, and other high-risk workers. On the 18th, it was made available to everyone over the age of 60. This was reduced by 10 years every week with new vaccines coming in, with the last group of everyone over 16 years old being eligible on the 22nd of February. The government had placed 300 million orders of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and a limited number of J&J vaccines for applications where it would be easier to give 1 shot instead of 2. Starting on May 10th, ages 12 and up will be eligible, and the vaccine will be required in public schools for the 2021-2022 school year.
