Aviean Exodus (Fantasy)(IC / Open)

Aviea a world once vibrant and full of life. Now wasting away as the Rot brought into the world by a renegade mage Voron Vamenor who failed to become a god. Only to poison the world he once sought to control. The Rot and its advance have led to countless deaths of all life on Aviea. Even the flora and the oceans are dying. It seemed after three years of unrestrained drive, most of Aviea was rendered inhabitable, and the survivors banded together under the Aviean Coalition. Though many solutions were brought up to how to save their home. None proved to be viable, and when the people started to lost hope. A human scholar by the name of Garth Redwood discovered a way to save everyone. But, instead of saving Aviea from the Rot, his plan was to leave Aviea and travel to a new world. Using what he learned from studying ancient texts, Garth thought that with enough time and resources. He could build a portal to another world, without any other options and after seeing the possibility that it could work. The Coalition focused all its efforts on building this portal. Which after months of work, it was completed and when it was first used. It worked, and it revealed that a fertile world was on the other side. The Coalition named this new world Ehiri and sent teams and supplies to the other side. To establish a base camp and a portal on the other side.

Despite the warnings of some in the Coalition, a settlement was founded near the base camp with settlers coming in limited numbers while the river valley they now lived in was still unexplored. To remedy this, the Coalition created the Pathfinders, a recon group whose goals are three things. Exploring, cataloging, and identifying threats of this new world. Under the leadership of Kaltidir Zornaar, a Dragonborn hunter. The Pathfinders are about to undergo their first expedition. Who knows what awaits them in this new world but, much is at stake. This is the only chance the Avieans have of salvation and Kaltidir to going to make sure that this world becomes their new home.

This place feels like home. The calming breeze, the sun casting a gentle ray of light down from the middle of the sky. More trees, though, a lot more trees. A sign that the settlement will have plenty of wood for making the houses and the wall. If they actually listen and do not leave New Cahann unprotected. Fools think that just because they have not encountered anything hostile yet that New Cahann and the valley are safe. Despite the fact that the valley is still largely unexplored and it is a big one. There is bound to be something living in this valley that does not take kindly to their presence. The Council should not have let settlers come through so early. It has barely been a week since the base camp, and their side of the portal was already established. They are getting people and even some livestock through. Too early to risk the lives of civilians before a single expedition had been launched. But, that is something out of his hands despite how much he is against it. Still just means that he must go through about comping the valley for anything dangerous once he gets done with this paperwork, that is.

Kaltidir was busy going through the annoying part of his job as leader of the Pathfinders. Paperwork, going over supplies, new recruits, and other assorted details that needed his approval or inspection. Truly boring but critical work. Just like it was back when he was leading the Crimson Slayers. Spending more time at the keep than going out on hunts. Which it is odd to him that now leading the Pathfinders that he can be in the field more than he could with the Slayers. All it took was the end of the world. Kaltidir sighed at the thought. At least he knows there will be people here that he can trust.

Though the Slayers are gone, most of their members joined the Pathfinders alongside him. He even managed to get one to be his second, a female Dalish elf named Amra Leovaris. An agile fighter of the Slayers and one that Kaltidir had the pleasure of fighting with and getting to know. Having her by his side is a boon for his confidence. Knowing that she is capable and a good friend. Something in short supply after the Rot took so many lives and most of his family. Kaltidir's hands closed and shook with sad anger at the thought. So many lives gone and their home as well. This is their only chance to survive, and Kaltidir is not going to waste this chance. This world, Ehiri, will be their new home, no matter what.

Once he took the time to relax and when he was finally done with his paperwork. Kaltidir promoted, got up from his desk, handed the paperwork to his assistant, who was a male brown hair elf, and left his rather big command tent. Stopping just short of the entrance to the tent and got a good look at the camp. Busy is the word to describe the state of the base camp. A Moving supplies, gear, personal throughout the large camp. As it should be, the first expedition is going to be soon, and Kaltidir wants everything to be ready and squared away before it starts.

As he was about to take a step, the familiar sound of the portal was starting up. Kaltidir turned to face the portal that was located in the middle of the camp. A large circular gate made out of enchanted stone that gave it a blue hue. With a rune on top of the gate, which started to glow. Blue energy started to form in the middle and expanded to cover the whole empty space in the gate. Soon enough, a group came through the portal, and instead of settlers, Pathfinder recruits or supplies. It was a group of people that were transporting what looked like animals in cages. Not livestock, no but wild animals. Kaltidi could not help but smirk at the sight.

The Wild Initiative, when the Coalition means that they are trying to save everyone. They meant everyone, including any wild animal or plant native to Aviea that they could get their hands on. It is not an easy task but, some people did not like the idea of whole species going extinct. So a brave few aided by magic managed to capture as many wild animals and plants as they could and brought them to the Coalition lands. Now with the portal functioning and a new world on the other side. They want to transplant these species to the new world. Kaltidir can't say he disagrees with this and the people behind it. It is a noble cause to save what is left of nature. But, as it stands, it still has the same problem he had with the settlers. It is too early to do this, too many unknowns, and he does not want to hear a couple of lions dying because of some kind of native beast or something they ate disagreed with them.

However, once again, that is out of his control, which irritates him. You would think that this being the last hope for the Avieans that the Council would be more careful about handling this. Setting up settlement before any reconnaissance could be done is foolhardy. But, they just had to give in to the mob of people that want go through the gate. Kaltidir understands sure, thousands petition to the Council about sending settlers and some got.... let's day desperate to escape through the gate. This does not mean you bow to the mob. At least they are limiting the number of settlers coming through. So it is not a full-blown colonization effort, and it can be managed. No one wants to hear about a setter going missing or finding them dead because they could not stick near base camp or New Cahann.

Once the group went their way, Kaltidir resumed his walk. There were some final things he needs to do before the first expedition begins, which meant finding Amra and three others. It did not take long before Kaltidir found who he was looking for amidst the constant moving of people and material. He spotted Amra first, and by chance, she was with the three others he was looking for. That sure makes things easier, Kaltidir thought, and he walked to the group. Just a few more steps, and they can finally get this expedition on its way. Until then, the people in the camp can relax and prepare for the first expedition. For who knows lies beyond the confines of base camp and what else lives with them in the valley.

The Retreat from Aviea...

Image
Image
For a long, long time now, Faeliun Elenaril had spent her days... Almost robotically. Acting without much thought, without mental acuity, her role had been simple enough that even a Child would have understood it. To survive.

The tarnished lands of Aviea, rotten to the core and damaged beyond any repair would have been quite the representation of Faeliun's mood and emotions... Seeing her entire tribe, people she cared for, and the only people up until recently that she had even ever met had perished to the horrible plague that is known as 'Rot'.
And she did not know if she did the right thing or not... Perhaps she did, it would give her the smallest piece of mind to think that it would be so, but. She hardly could feel good about personally taking the life of her old mentor, her friend... Perhaps even what she considered a part of the family. She was suffering, awfully so... Faeliun saw the purple warts that had sprouted all over the body, the face of the old Wise Woman in immense pain, though she was too proud to have even made any moans of pain...

Faeliun's mentor... Her second mother had made not a single move. Not as she took her personal, alchemical knife from the table beside the wise women... Not as she raised the knife, shakily and decidedly conflicted from the table, towards her throat, visibly purple due to the awful 'rot'. The woman hadn't even made a sigh of pain, or perhaps even relief as the blood splattered all over the room around Faeliun Elenaril had plunged that sharp knife through the neck of her sick second mother, ending her life in less than five seconds.

Faeliun spent months of walking through the destroyed, diseased landscapes in a haze, her body doing the work for her as the mind was bombarded from depression, a sense of uselessness, and more... Oh, much more.
And even as she finally stumbled upon the Pathfinders, and the Coalition's last frontier... The haze had stayed.
But then, after hearing further about the mission of the Pathfinders, who would set across the uncharted lands past the portal leading to another world, finally the depressive haze that the girl had been under had lifted... Not completely, but somewhat. She saw hope for Aviea once more, which was a change for the better after seeing the disease ravaged lands all across what she once called home. In addition, though still in mourning, represented by her dark hooded robes, she saw a way to recover. To repent for the little that she did to stop her whole peoples from dying out. To find something that she could be truly proud of herself of. This was the first sense of optimism that Faeliun had been given for months, perhaps even a complete year, even two. And by the gods and goddesses of Heaven, she would not have let go of that, not so quickly.

The pathfinder initiative saw little use for Faeliun, that was true... Despite the stories of her skills in Alchemy, in her magic, all the directors would have ever seen was a lost girl, another member of a lost group whom had lost something, as everyone had.
There was really only one member that had seen the young, tribal Elf for what she was... Either that, or he took pity on her moreso than the others did. Luckily, this was the leader of the Pathfinder initiative, Kaltidir Zornaar... Taking Faeliun in as a pathfinder, for whatever reason, she finally saw herself doing something more than feeling helpless for herself.

The pathfinders is something much bigger than herself, and that is important...

Faeliun Elenaril could still remember setting foot into that portal, that led from Aviea to Ehiri... The light encompassing her entire body, a blinding flash that felt like it stayed for many full seconds, but in reality... It only took a split second for the magic to have taken effect... And the view was... Beautiful. It was nothing special, to be completely honest... Aviea had looked just as vibrant, colorful as that valley sprawled upon her, but now it was a desolate wasteland... If anything with exception to the final frontier wasn't dead in that... Limbo, then they soon would be.
And for Faeliun, who had grown up in the traditional ways, where she had been taught that every single living being, plant... Animal, both sentient and not are as equal as eachother, this truly hurts her.
So to see that not everything, everywhere is dead fills her with a hope she hasn't felt for a while now...

But, the depression, the pessimism would not be able to go away... Because after all, what stops the 'Rot' from spreading through that portal, just as they did? Or if not that, what stops this new town from being butchered by the denizens of Ehiri?
And it does not take a single bout of optimism to be rid of all the suffering, all the loss that Faeliun has been through. It would take a lot of good to repent for the loss of Faeliun's family, friends, tribe. The girl would refuse to stop with her mourning, it would be unfair to her now dead tribe to do so...

But there was a light at the end of tunnel...

_______________________________________________________________

Faeliun Elenaril would have been working on her craft... It helped in distracting her. If there's one good thing to Ehiri, even in ground zero is all of the plants and ingredients that are new to her... The freedom of experimentation with these new pieces is something else... Because even when Aviea was still alive, her tribe had catalogs of most of the common plants and materials would have been listed down, with the potential effects as well... But that wasn't the same for this new, luscious world.
So, whilst occupying herself with some potion-making, Faeliun would have heard of a bustle outside... The Wild Initiative, something that Faeliun was happy for would have walked through the portal, cages of Aviean animals scraping to get out. Seeing this effort of conservation would fill her with a surprising amount of joy.

Taking a moment to stop her work, to see what she believes to be a true act of heroism in bringing these free souls who, would otherwise die to the 'rot' being sent, like them to this new world to have a chance to begin again.
Many emotions would fill Faeliun's mind at that moment, but she still couldn't get the idea that this is all for nothing out... If the disease Aviea has died from manages to spread past the portal, by perhaps a potential host... That would not doom them once more, but an entire new world in addition.
Gods and Goddesses, this better work...

Okay, as a first post, I will not section it off in spoilers, which is what I usually do...
And to Theyra, or perhaps any other characters, feel free to begin an interaction with Faeliun should you wish... For I could start something myself, but I feel it better if Faeliun is approached, rather than her approaching someone else...

Anyways, this is going to be exciting!

"Ash, we should build the new library over there! Isn't it an absolutely gorgeous view?!" A tall, white-haired elf was pointing excitedly toward what was an admittedly majestic clearing, overlooking what would probably be a river, what they could see through it from the forest of tents anyway. The lady he was referring to was bent over a table, her ash-colored hair braided back to keep it out of her eyes.
"Sire, we can't just start dividing this place up like a pizza." Ash said, amusement tinting her voice. "We don't even know what building materials they have available..."
"I'm sure there's some sort of quarry with rock around here, were we allowed to explore a bit further."
"Some stones are better than others, you know. Some are too soft, get eroded too easily. Some are too hard and damn-near impossible to carve." Her dark eyes flashed up to meet his silvery-grey ones. "Like that time you were convinced that we could build the summer palace out of rough diamond? It took me three whole months to talk you out of that."

"IT WAS ONE TIME! We're all entitled to our crazy ideas every now and again...you have to admit it would've looked rather fetching."
"Your Majesty, I say we start with designing houses first before we get into all that..." Just then, a young elf walked up to where Ash was working. His skin was every bit as brown as hers, but his hair was black and his eyes were an unusual gold. "Mom!"
"Laure!" She straightened up to embrace her son, pressing a kiss to his forehead. When he was young, when Aviea used to be vibrant and cheerful and teeming with life. Before Father died and Sim went mad...he can hide it under his usual flair for dramatics, but something in him is broken. it had been easier, Laure had been shorter then. Now he was a head taller than her, and she had to raise up on her toes to do it. "I came to catch you before you set out on your journey."

"I wasn't going to leave without saying goodbye, my little star. Well, not so little anymore."
"I still don't understand why you won't let me go with you. I've got knight training, I can handle myself!"
"Absolutely not!" Ash said in that voice that brokered no argument. "I've lost your grandfather, I've lost my best friend...well, some of him anyway. I'll be damned if I lose my only child."
"I'm a man now, Mom! Let me help, I can protect you!"
"I'm your mother, it's my job to protect you if anything." She schooled her features into a blank mask. "I will NOT argue with you about this, Tinlaure. I'm sure your father will back me up on this, and poor Rafael! He'd be devastated if you died before you two have the chance to marry." She softened a bit, patting his hand. "Trust me, this is for the best. I'll be back soon, I swear it." Hoisting her bag over her shoulder, Ash went to go inspect if the rest of the Pathfinders had been ready to leave yet. She felt a bit out of place, she wasn't a fighter or explorer, nor was she a worker of great magic. But she did believe that they could make a new home here, as an architect it would be her job to design and build some of those new homes...because of that, she had to survey the land. Explore quarries, see what type of structures would be best suited to this environment. So caught up in these thoughts that she nearly ran into a black-robed figure, only managing to catch herself in time.

"Apologies! I'm sorry, should've watched where I was headed!"

The Elven girl would have been somewhat entranced, watching as the Wild Initiative brings the souls of the Animals and Plants meant to be released in the valley... The Animals either caged within boxes, or paralysed with magic had been hauled through the portal directly in the centre of the Base Camp, leaving the sickly world of Aviea into the potential salvation that is Ehiri... Most of the animals would be screeching their cries of worry, confusion, instinct as they are carried through the place, past Faeliun and a small crowd of people. The plants, of course would not be able to screech or cry.
Despite how scared and frightened the creatures must be by their 'captors', the favor that was being done by them would truly be something worth of laud...

Faeliun will eventually get to do something for the people moving into the new world, as a Pathfinder taken in by Kaltidir Zornaar... But at this current time, though she would be happy for the Wild initiative, she almost feels envious for them. There they are, saving living souls from the clutches of the dying Aviean world, and the girl would be stuck currently, mixing tonics together which may, or may not actually benefit the place...

Perhaps her thoughts would have carried on, whittling away once more at her already fragile state of mind, but she is taken aback suddenly...
She would be too busy with her thoughts, and studying the event of the Wild initiative has caused that she wouldn't have even noticed a Dark Skinned Elven women almost rush straight into her, and only doing so when the women had exclaimed:

Mornaiwë 'Ash' Sarynore
"Apologies! I'm sorry, should've watched where I was headed!"

At the exclamation, aimed at her personally, Faeliun Elenaril would have taken a full two seconds for it all to register in her mind... The sluggishness that an overworked mind can cause does that... Then, when it happened, and the voice echoed in Faeliun's head, she would spin around in a somewhat rash, quick manner, coming face to face with the Dark Skinned elf, Mornaiwë Sarynore.
She would have been unable to control her expression of surprise upon seeing Mornaiwë not even a metre away, but would soon enough, within a split second control herself, returning a light smile...

With a bright face, more forced than anything, Faeliun would have returned with her own words, saying:

Faeliun Elenaril
"Oh... No need to apologise, madam, I was in the way of the Wild initiative so, I am at fault, I believe.
I suppose you are in quite the rush? Should I step aside?"

0 A.A, Aviean Valley, Coalition Base Camp, Te Karagathia

The darkness of his tent was soothing. Though he typically disliked such confined spaces, he found the cooling darkness of his tent put his mind at ease. He knelt at the centre of it, his hands facing down on his thighs and his head bowed, eyes closed. Letting out a deep breath, the noise of a camp had at work faded till it was only a faint sound to him. The throbbing of his Call raged in his head, he could feel the blood it was crying out for. Waking up always had it lusting for violence the most, the hours of sleep only starved it rather than sate it.

Calm he willed to himself. He could sense the tent's interior, its outline was carved into his mind. The small wooden desk next to him, the messy bed behind him and the trunk that sat to his right. He could feel small wisps of wind that managed to break through the tent's flaps. He forced his mind to focus on it and bring the image of his previous home to his mind. An abandoned mill that sat by an idyllic stream, the overhanging trees that reached to the water's surface and had small fingers of moss reaching out to it. The rays of sun that would pierce through the canopy like a needle through thread. The glint of light off the lazily moving water.

Slowly, he felt the throbbing recede. The pounding in his skull and the screaming in the back of his mind soon became nothing but an ignorable whisper. In his knelt position, he rolled his shoulders, the tightly corded muscles loosening with every motion. The physical sensation eased his mind back to the present, the distant sounds returning to the forefront. He opened his eyes, the blackness was instead replaced by the dim light of the sun glowing through the thick fabric of his tent. In front of him lay his weapons and armour, neatly laid out on a red scroll.

He inspected them and nodded to himself. The cleaning from last night seemed to hold up. He reached up and picked up a pauldron, the leather straps dangling from it. In the pale light, the finer details of it were lost but the scratches from numerous fights were still there. He ran his finger over the largest ones, the uneven surface sent small sensations of battle into his mind. The gentle throbbing increased for a moment until his willed it back to silence.

With an experienced deftness, he began to place the armour on himself. The right spaulder was first, a simple piece of overlapping steel that sat comfortably over his roughspun chtion. Normally, he would wear it over his bare skin, but the unfamiliarity of the new world had him wear regular clothing underneath to ensure protection from the flora that might otherwise pierce him.

The Manica came next, the arm guard slot into position down his right arm as he tightened the leather straps over it. As he continued to assemble himself, he began to recite the litanies in quiet. In truth, he had little recollection of what they meant or whether he was applying them in the correct context, but he didn't care. It was one of the few things of his home that had stuck with him throughout his years and he did not intend to give up on them.

"Mother of Sands" he muttered as he began to wrap the leather strap around his left arm "Fill my soul with the fire of the desert, that all may see me as the beacon of flame". The straps on his arm weren't as protective as the ones on his right, but he found it suitable given he carried his shield in his left arm, the added weight of serious armour might slow his reactions down.

Lifting up his chest piece, he opened the curved and segmented piece wide and clamped it around himself "Father of Earth, mould me in your form, that all might see the mountain of strength I carry" he continued, tightening the straps with a satisfying sound. The chest piece was probably the finest piece of armour his had. He'd robbed it from his master's armoury after he'd slain him, and it showed. The edges of its segments were guilded and covered in swirling patterns. The centre had been his crest, but it had long since been scratched off, though it had given him a small fortune when he sold the gold on.

"Master of Metal" he added, rising to his feet as he affixed his leather belt. Affixing his tasset to his left thigh, he nodded to himself "Turn my will to iron, let me be the rock on which the tide breaks", the tasset was the most damaged piece, deep scores ran through it from a close call at the fighting rings in the Aviean capital.

"Lord of the Beasts" he knelt down to tie his greaves on. They were simple in design, a single sheet of bended metal the followed the curvature of his shins, the leather straps behind them were the more finicky of all the armour he war. He placed his nailed sandals on next, the clack of the nail heads on the bottom was a sound he'd never quite gotten used to. Admittedly, these were his first pair of shoes he'd ever owned. "Grant me the speed of the falcon, graceful and unmatched"

Picking up his shield, he attached it to his back. His sword slid comfortably into the scabbard, while he slid a satchel of supplies over his front. He'd commissioned a dwarf to have it easy to release, should danger show its face unexpectedly. It would allow him to react quickly without having to waste precious seconds taking it off, though the safety of its contents was questionable.

Finally, he looked down at his helmet. It had been with him for as long as he could recall. It was bronzed, unlike the steel assortment of armour he wore now, its crest stood with an embossed eagle head at the front. The horsehair that had made up the crest had long since been torn off, while the ornate grill offered decent vision and protection from most attacks. He picked up, but refrained from wearing it until they had left the safety of the camp.

Letting out a final breath, he exited his tent. The light of the sun had him squinting as his eyes adjusted. The camp was becoming increasingly clogged by foot traffic as more and more colonists arrived through the portal. To Te, it was pathetic. The masses scrambled like rats to get to this new world, one that they were not even certain of its safety, but would die to get to regardless. His face became set into a look of indifferent annoyance, his face was surprisngly handsome, but unmistakeably stern. A hard-set jaw and a mouth that seemed to always frown with displeasure. His head was clean shaven yet the unmistakeable shade of growing hair was visible, large scripture tattoos in a language only a handful of people could read identified him as a slave and property of Talius Drastastas ran along the side of his head, his tanned skin had necessitated they be a bright white. He had a scraggly beard, though a portion in his right jaw remained bare, accompanied by a mean scar the ran from the mid-point of the jaw to just under his ear. His deepset eyes were a frozen blue that seemed to stare with an unnatural intensity.

He gripped the rim of his helmet tightly as he left, searching for the elf Amra. He had little interest in seeking out their dragonborn leader, whatever orders he had would no doubt be available from Amra and he tended to dislike authority figures. He was nearly a head and shoulders taller than most humans here, his muscles were corded and taut from the many years of use and the endless drills and routines he had been forced to repeat day after day for much of his adolescence. Passing two elfs that seemed to have bumped into each other, he continued on through the ground. He noted the soft green grass was slowly being turned into the thick mud of the refugee camps that existed through Aviean. Yet another reason to be out of this place sooner.

He found Amra shortly after, arriving wordlessly. He didn't say anything, offering a quick nod as his eyes looked around the camp, trying to discern details or even find the dragonborn leader. There was a soft throbbing when his anticipation grew, he jaw clenched in response. Being out in the sun, away from areas of peace, made forcing the Call back a much more difficult task.

0 A.A, Aviean Valley, Coalition Base Camp, Ruiner Drukiin

The evening air was soft and warm, just as the day before had been. Sitting cross-legged atop one of the valley hills, Drukiin the Dwarf looked up at the night sky. His hands rested on the soft grass, gently swaying in the wind. The grass was so high that it formed a natural wall around him, leaving with no-where to gaze but up. Crickets chirped, the river in the valley flowed, and if he listened closely, he could hear the muffled sounds of settlers, enjoying their evening’s rest. Building up a new world was hard work, they had soon learned, but there was tremendous hope that radiated from every felled tree, every new house built, all the livestock brought through the fold.

Drukiin had separated himself. There were but few dwarves among the early settlers, and certainly no Katau-dwarves to speak of. His sister was still in the Old World, helping manage the throng of tens of thousands of refugees streaming towards the gate like an army. Some, like their expedition leader, had objected to early settlement. Drukiin understood, but was unbothered. If people were to die, let them die at the doorstep of a new world and with hope in their hearts, instead of given to the Rot that threatened to consume all. The earlier the gate could be closed, the better, in his opinion. Besides, with tens of thousands marching on the gate, who was going to stop them?

Drukiin, however, was at that moment not concerned with the grass, or the village, or the base camp, or any of the politics. In his lap, cast from silver and brass, lay an ancient Kossith lunisolar calendar. It had the mechanisms of a clock, but the spring was missing, and Drukiin had not yet found one of the correct strength. He could, however, move the three constituent disks by hand, and if he held it in front of a candle, it would show him the constellations and their positions for any given time of year. He had tried countless different permutations, and yet, the star chart never came to correspond with the starry sky above. After the hundredth attempt, yielding no results, Drukiin put aside the artefact, picked up his notebook, and made a few marks.

“Constellations unknown; mapping on next page”

Drukiin had taken to mapping the stars for himself, as well as the movement of the sun and the moon. Pages upon pages of notes followed. Ideas for constellations, too, that represented his hopes for a new world. The Constellation of the Gate he had found, seven stars in a near-circle with a bright one at the top. The Constellation of the Alliance. The Constellation of Aviea, to remind them of their old home. Just ideas, but they gave him some hope. And hope was a commodity all to scarce. As his candle neared its end, Drukiin decided to head back to camp. There was hope, yes, but there was also uncertainty. No-one knew what, or who, lurked behind the Curtain of Night, what beings or spirits might inhabit this strange world. Word had gone out that some of the wolves of the Wild Project might have escaped, although those rumours seemed unsubstantiated. Still, Drukiin felt a shiver go down his spine as he almost ran into the protection of the base’s torches.

The next morning, Drukiin settled into what had become somewhat of a routine. He washed in the cold waters of the river, then had some breakfast from the prepared rations they had taken with them. The valley looked like the ones in the Old World, but still they had not dared eat from the berries and mushrooms that grew there. The river water, despite being clear and cold, was still boiled before consumption, and most people were careful not to let the water touch their lips or nose. Stories about the brain-eating worms of Llagron had gotten around, giving a sense of how many different peoples and ethnicities, even within the different races, had come together.

Once that was done, Drukiin did what he always did during the day, as long as the Pathfinders still remained at camp; he sat besides the gate and scribbled maps in his notebook based on the visible surroundings. The walls of the valley were high, and he thought he could see mountains behind some of them, which he tried to incorporate. Sitting still, however, it was impossible to make any accurate maps, and he was keen on moving out with the first expedition. Mostly, he was concerned with the Gate itself. He had not yet spoken to Gatebuilder Garth or discussed his theories and methods, but the existence of the Gate perplexed Drukiin. According to Garth, he had found knowledge about it in ancient texts. The exact source was unknown to Drukiin, but he pondered at the possibility. What ancient civilisation had known about the possibility of portals? And why had they not used it? Or had they used it? Without libraries or sources of his own, all he could do was look at the blue-hued rune at the top of the gate.

“I hope we are heading out soon” he whispered to himself, as the glowing rune burned itself into his mind.
The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Amra quickly noticed the silent human and looked at Kaltidir for the go-ahead. Kaltidir gave a simple nod and she gave a nod in return. They knew each other enough to speak without words. Besides Amra had gotten the basic idea of what the plan was and how the first expedition would go down. So taking a break to speak to Te would not be a problem. So Amra left Kaltidir's group and turned to face the newcomer. Taking a good look at the man. Te, or what she thinks his name was. Amra remembers him from when he joined with a group of applicants. Hesitant to speak of his past but, an able warrior when needed. Also, that long scar on his face and those blue eyes of his was something that made him hard to forget. Someone that would be needed during their trek of Ehiri since there are bound to be creatures out there that do not take kindly to them. Now, what could he want?

Giving him a smile, "hello Te, is there something you want to talk about?"

"Oh no, it's fine. I was just on my way to go report to the Pathfinder leader, they're not too far away. Hey, are you part of our group?" Ash was relieved that the young woman didn't take any offense...Faeliun, was it? She believed she'd heard the name before when the Council had summoned them at first. "It's a whole, brand-new world isn't it?" she said, trying to sound cheerful. "And already my king wants to build a library and summer palace...he loves building quite a bit. Must be why he hired me.

Though managing to catch all of what the Dark Skinned Elf, Mornaiwe Sarynore had said, she would still be drawn occasionally to watching across her back towards the train of Coalition Personnel, dragging or carrying the various animals across the centre of the whole camp...
Their screams and cries of anguish, confusion and horror reverberates in her mind. In a way, she can almost feel their emotions, like she and them were connected in a strange way...

Faeliun isn't unaware that the animals simply cannot have the same mental capacity as the sentient races. It is not like a common Wolf would know that they are being saved from a most awful fate, but simply think on instinct, that they are under attack.
Still, that sure does not help with any confidence, that is for certain...

ms Elenaril was actually rather thankful for stumbling into 'Ash'. For she has found that conversation is often a great distraction from the mind and it's thoughts. Ever since wandering into the Coalition, she knows that she hasn't missed the complete quiet of the decaying Aviean world, though she does indeed have her limits.
Enough of her thoughts. Upon Mornaiwe Sarynore finishing with her piece, that being:

Mornaiwë 'Ash' Sarynore

, Faeliun would quickly make her own response with:

Faeliun Elenaril
(With surprise that is not completely hidden) "You travel with a... King? ( *quiet laugh* ) Well, I suppose I do indeed appreciate you telling me that, for it means that I will not be caught forgetting to bow.
This world. What did they call it? Ehiri, correct? It is as mysterious looking as it is exciting. It seems the Gods and Goddesses did not wish for us to perish, by evidence of that portal and this new world...

(Recoiling suddenly, out of a pang of pessimism) I cannot help but think that the chance we have been given will be wasted...
I know that the Wild Initiative is trying to be as safe as possible. But, if a single animal passes through that portal with the 'Rot'.
(Looking down at the floor for a full two seconds, remembering her failure in saving her own family, and tribe) (Looking up again, trying to suppress her emotion to 'Ash') I fear that Ehiri will fall as well. For I... Cannot find a cure.

(Attempting to recover from her guilt and pessimism) You are going to see the Pathfinder Leader? I suppose I should do the same, considering I am a part of the initiative.
Should we go and find him? If you are ready to do so, of course."

Te regarded Amra with indifference as she asked a question, his cold blue eyes soaking in the details of her face. She possessed the same faux-human features that all elves had. Shaped like regular humans, it's edges were far sharper and more defined. In his experience, the sharper the angles, the more insufferable the elf. Interestingly, Amra's sharp edges seemed to have a softness to them that belayed his previous presumption. Her facial tattoos also showed she was not like a regular elf, the concept of scarring ones face like that would've been far too scandalous for those perfect faced elves. Additionally, he couldn't recall ever meeting a red-haired elf.

"No" he grunted, shouldering the strap of his sack again as it had begun to stab slightly into his shoulder "Other than what Dragonborn intends for us to do. I'm tired of waiting."

0 A.A, Aviean Valley, Coalition Base Camp, Kaltidir Zornaar
Grandir Stelmar

The Sky took most of Grandir’s attention when he had the time to let his thoughts wander. The clear skies, void of storm and disease, were almost foreign to him ever since the rot took hold of Aviea. Now he wanted nothing more than to grow once again accustomed to it. In addition to those clear skies that carried gently clouds overhead, the forested valley surrounding them held a healthy greenery that he had once feared he would never see again. The past few mornings, he had woken, fearing this place to be a fever-dream. That he had finally succumb to disease and famine on the long exile from his home. That he had never reached the coalition, nor passed through its fabled gate. This morn was the first time he had woken whilst not bathing in feverish sweat, wondering in what strange place he found himself. His impending departure giving his mind some purpose to focus on. This place still felt like a dream compared to the world he had left behind, but it made his longing for home all the worse. He longed for snowy mountain slopes, crisp mountain air and the warm comfort of carved dwarven dwellings. All memories left behind many months ago, those troubled by the cruel realities of plague and rot.

Halting his thoughts from wandering too far into the melancholic, Grandir took another huff from his pipe as he glanced to his right, where his ponies were lazing about, roped to a nearby pole and rigged for travel. Inside their saddlebags was everything he owned. All already packed and readied, containing supplies for travel, food, water, hunting along various other trinkets he had managed to keep ever since he had left his home behind. He had been waiting at the small clearing that had been designated their assembly point ever since he had broken up camp, just past dawn. He pushed himself upright with a grunt, his body aching at the sudden and unexpected effort demanded of it. His armor was heavy and, to all but other dwarves, unwieldy for a situation such as a long scouting assignment. But for their lack in stature, dwarves compensated in constitution. Through years of training, Grandir knew he could march leagues with his armor and weapons if needed. Although he would be forced to admit such an effort would tire him greatly. But for such an event, he had ensured to bring these mounts along, they would ensure he would not slow the pathfinders down at all. To elevate his impatience at the, as of yet, unseen other members of his expedition, he checked the straps on the animals once again, taking comfort in the fact that he had kept them well in order.

He had slept the past few days at the edge of the basecamp and cleaned up his tent at first light this morning, expecting to be travelling for a good while when the pathfinders would depart. He had crossed the portal a mere few days ago and their had yet to be a proper scouting party formed, much to his annoyance. His clansmen and family were on the other side of the magical contraption that brought him here and his sole reason for travelling to this foreign place was to ensure their survival. He was here to see if this new world could house them, even give them a future. He knew they would be safe for the time being the rot would need time to finish its killing blow on Aviea. But nevertheless, he was impatient about this entire affair, the sooner he could find a place for his people to survive, live or even thrive, the better.

He had kept his grumbling to himself, especially the fact he felt that things were going too slow. He knew such comments from a man in his position would do naught but cause issues or have him removed from the pathfinders altogether. But in his mind, there were enough warriors and hunters in the coalition to send scouts in all directions immediately, but the council had disagreed on such proposals, favoring a more cautious approach. Grandir remained staunchly opposed to such careful behavior, as he still preferred to march a hundred men in all directions, but things were likely not so simple as he assumed them to be. At least, that is what he surmised, if such plans were denied.

Once again confirming that his pack animals were more than ready for the voyage, Grandir scanned the clearing in hopes of any sign of the other members arriving for their expedition. Huffing his pipe once more with a narrowed brow and inquisitive look etched on his face, he awaits the arrival of the expedition leader.

"Oh", Amra smiled, waned a bit. "I guess I am used to people asking me questions ever since becoming Kaltidir's second. Kinda annoying, but it comes with the job and all." Amra crossed her arms, noting Te's... let' say, eagerness to left the camp, which she can relate to, for the most part, other than the settlers. The Pathfinders have been limited to the base camp. Sometimes they would allow to visit New Cahann but, that is it. Just shoring up the base camp with supplies and gear. Building palisades and dealing with any settlers that pass through the camp to reach New Cahann. But, that will soon chance as Amra knows, and you would not hurt to tell Te the plan. "The plan is that we are going to leave for our first trek into the valley soon. As in today, so just wait a little longer, okay? We will be on our way soon."

Faeliun looks and listens to what ms Sarynore would have been saying to her with mild curiosity, and a tinge of comfort in the conversation due to it potentially helping with her pessimism...
The sounds of the Base Camp all around them, including the clacking of boots ever still going on, yet quieting as the Wild Initiative heads towards the completion of their goal would be able to remind the elf to reality. For members with their now empty cages, or rather in some cases empty hands would make the portal in the centre of the camp whizz and pop as they exit through it back to Aviea once more, and now it seems that there are no more members entering, hoarding animals in cages or their arms any longer...

If any of those animals brought in...
No, she wouldn't say it again, she already had...

Soon enough, Mornaiwë Sarynore would move on her response to the topic of the impending mission, something that Faeliun would be rather thankful for... With a surprising amount of energy, one that Faeliun would be rather envious of, 'Ash' would say:

Mornaiwë 'Ash' Sarynore
"As for the leader I think it's a lady, actually. I heard it was a female elf, I don't know her name but maybe she's that elf that those other two are gathering around. I think I recognize some of them for the first council meeting, we should head over there and check. It was a pleasure speaking with you."

Faeliun would quickly notice that ms Sarynore would have been wrong with her prediction that the 'Female Elf' was the leader of the initiative, for she very much knows of Kaltidir, that Dragonborn was the unequivocal lead member, perhaps the Elf was some Second-In-Command perhaps?
Well, by any means it would not be a incorrect idea to speak to the Second, of course. But considering that, by the looks of it, as the crowds around the camp wane somewhat to allow visual aid the Elf in question was already speaking to a heavy looking man, and so perhaps approaching mr Zornaar now instead of his second would not be a bad idea either at this point...

However, before she can put her thoughts into words, it seems that 'Ash' would already be on her way to make conversation... With a small sigh of annoyance of being given no time to respond, not out of any ill will mind one, but moreso in general, Faeliun would turn her head to look towards the old-looking Dragonborn, who seems to be busy at his own table.
In regards to that, she would sigh once more. Perhaps it would not be the best idea to begin conversation with him?
But no, she had been waiting in inaction, watching with her pessimistic thoughts as people like the heroic Wild Initiative went on with their actions of justice and do good, and Faeliun had been doing almost nothing in return... Even if the adventure would not begin anytime soon, she would ask to do something... Keeping oneself occupied is one of the most effective ways to silence thoughts, after all.
-

-

Faeliun would take out her Alchemical Knife... It is sharp and small, that is for certain. If a passerby was to study it, they would be more inclined to believe it is a dagger meant for defense rather than for something as simple as chopping through plants, and the weapon can most certainly be used for just that as well...
Perhaps soon enough, it will have to be used for just that. She hopes that, at the very least this whole thing will not cause much bloodshed, after all it is in her belief that hurting any animal is the equivalent to hurting a 'sentient' creature in addition. But, she will not unreasonably be optimistic in the idea that combat will never be a reality.

Without further ado, she would quickly pace up, through the ever smaller crowd in front of her towards the working Kaltidir Zornaar... It is almost like he had never seen her approach until she asks in a soft, yet relatively loud voice:

Faeliun Elenaril
"Sir? Kaltidir?
I... Apologise if I am disturbing something, I just need to ask the all important question.

And, if we are not leaving for the expedition anytime soon, is there anything that I could do to make myself useful? Doing little is. Well, I hate to be left to my thoughts if I can help it..."

I heard it was a female elf, I don't know her name but maybe she's that elf that those other two are gathering around." She pointed to Amra who already had a small group of people gone to see her. "I think I recognize some of them for the first council meeting, we should head over there and check. It was a pleasure speaking with you." Ash headed out toward Amra, waiting for her to wrap up the conversation she was already having.

Faeliun would take out her Alchemical Knife... It is sharp and small, that is for certain. If a passerby was to study it, they would be more inclined to believe it is a dagger meant for defense rather than for something as simple as chopping through plants, and the weapon can most certainly be used for just that as well...

Kaltidir was busy talking with the remaining two humans when he noticed Faeliun's voice and question. Recognizing her voice, Faeliun, he remembers her. The sad elf that he took pity on and let her join the Pathfinders. Which might have been a mistake, but, for some reason, her tale touched him. The last of her tribe, and he felt it hard to turn her down. Meaning that if the expedition encounters something hostile and a fight, ensure. He means if something bad happens and she getting wounded or worse. It will on him and only him. He let her in the Pathfinders, and he will make sure that she stays unharmed if he can help it.

"One moment, you two," Kaltidir said to the two humans, and they both nodded. So Kaltidir turned to face her, "I was in the middle of something but, that can wait for now." Taking a breath, "we will be leaving on the expedition soon. You should not have to wait long and have idle thoughts. Though what is your all important question?" What question could she really have, he wondered. Well, now is the time to find out.

Faeliun could have sworn to herself that the Pathfinder leader, Kaltidir was not in talks... Moreso, she had believed that it was only that other Elf, of which 'Ash' had notified her of, allegedly the second was handling the conversation. Reason being why she had taken herself to meet with the old Dragonborn leader rather than the woman who was already being bombarded with questions...
This makes her feel somewhat awkward, and perhaps a little... Would rude be the correct word? However, she has committed to what she had done now, no reason to stop. So, with the smallest sigh escaping her lips, she returns conversation to Kaltidir with:

Faeliun Elenaril
"So sorry for disturbing you, Kaltidir... I believed that you were.
Sorry.

(With a small amount of renewed energy) I only needed to know how long we would be waiting before the expedition... I watch the wild initiative doing the work of the Gods and Goddesses with bringing those lost souls to safety by the dozens, and it seemed like us Pathfinders were... Doing little in that regard.
Any ideas how I should prepare for the eventual steps into the wilderness? I've experimented with these foreign plants and components, and I believe I have some rather... Powerful tonics. You think we may need them on our journey?"

Terrynn 'Calamis' Balcyne Post

Postby Tsarstvo Alyaski » Tue May 04, 2021 6:33 am

One day... The wrongs will be set right...

It has been many, many days since the disgusting, damaging 'Rot' had slaughtered it's way through anything and everyone in the world of Aviea... It had proved to be the ultimate apocalypse, causing untold levels of extinction across the lands and leaving behind a cursed, sickly purple, desolate landscape behind.
Perhaps only the Gods and Goddesses would be able to tell the lives lost from the plague... And indeed, only they would be able to tell of all the lost souls who had eventually succumbed to the 'Rot', but had refused or otherwise couldn't ascend to the heavens, destined to be cursed to wander the dead, Aviean lands forever, both within mortal boundaries... And not, in the same, strange way.

For Terrynn Balcyne, he had seen all that the disease had done, what it had the potential to do and... It's pure evilness. Every single member of the Royal discovery and advancement Society, of which at the time he had considered not just colleagues, but friends and perhaps even family had suffered the most horrid deaths one could imagine to the sickly disease. Matter-of-factly, it was rather surprising that 'Calamis' had managed to escape it at all, the odds were most definitely pitted against his survival.
Even when he, after days upon end of walking from the now ravaged lands of Pronia, his kingdom of which he had devoted most of his life to now dead and buried by the sickly purple hue of the cursed lands to the last bastions of civilisation with the Coalition, it would perhaps not be inaccurate to say that a piece of him died with the kingdom he had lived in... A usually talkative, interesting and personable person has been turned into... More of a husk of a former man. No longer would one talk much, and he has not even explored any firm acquaintance with anyone since Pronia. For now, he was completely dedicated to one. Single. Goal... With his research, discovery and power, he is determined to conquer and eradicate the 'Rot' from the lands of Aviea, so the dead world can. Begin again...
When mr Balcyne had stepped through that portal to the new, very much alive world of Ehiri, his soul and being, coated by the dark, heinous magic of the underworld that emanates from the Demonic armour that he now wears was finally touched again by the forces of light, of the Aether... It was not the experience he wished to go through, however... For the demonic energies that had coated him had protected his very being from becoming absorbed by the beckoning forces of Heaven, the holy spirits who wished for him to stop with his final quest and accept their embrace. And in that split second where the Pathfinder initiative made their bold step into Ehiri, coated in light magic of which had teleported them all to their destination, the Heavens were given their best opportunity to have their way with 'Calamis' than they ever did before.

The half a second felt like an hour of struggling for 'Calamis', summoning up energy he did not even know he had to fight off the clutching forces of those holy looking to pull him away from his goal...
But eventually, he and the other Pathfinders had emerged from the portal, greeted to a lush valley. For Terrynn Balcyne, who had wandered through the most sickly of looking environments, it was a sight for sore eyes... He could be tempted to retire here, but he had a mission to fulfill... It would be unfair for Aviea, their true homes to be left rotting away into nothingness. One would guess that this wouldn't be Calamis' decision, however.

And now, it has been many a day of restlessness, of acute insomnia keeping Balcyne awake all throughout... Perhaps some would begin to wonder how 'Calamis' had stayed up at all hours. All the more, without any side effects.
Or, perhaps not... Terrynn hopes it is the latter, that is for sure.

But, now it appeared that this would finally be the day for exploration. Terrynn Balcyne had done all he could with what has been given in the vicinity, which was not much in all honesty... No closer has 'Calamis' gotten to discovering anything new about the 'Rot' within the Base Camp, or New Cahann, but that is pretty much expected.
But now, Terrynn is getting somewhat restless. He wonders when the Pathfinder Leader will finally call for exploration.

-

'Calamis' has parked himself against the walls of a haphazardly built brick fence, gates leading to the outside of the Base Camp flanking him to the left, and further onwards he would most certainly spy a few pack animals grazing the grasses tied up against posts, seemingly already loaded with many a supply.
In the grasp of Terrynn's gauntlet would be his 'Twilight Lance', a weapon he has treasured since a young age... It acts as a powerful magical amplifier as well as a physical weapon in addition, with the powers to both cast dangerous spells from the tip, whilst also battering and stabbing opponents in addition... He would look upon it once more, studying the runes, the stainless copper, and painted iron instrument and the very slight glow that emanates from it as if to entertain oneself.

One more look towards the pack animals, he would this time spy a rather short looking man doing what he was doing in a similar fashion, so most likely of Dwarven descent... He would be rather armoured, and would have two dangerous looking war axes against both sides of his hips, glowing with an unknown energy ever so slightly.
'Calamis' would make a rather loud, somewhat so mystically echoing grunt as if to confirm his presence, and to perhaps even suggest to this other figure that he has recognised his presence... Not that he wanted to talk, so to speak, but moreso as to not appear too rude, there is little need for that...
For one, Terrynn Balcyne would most likely wait against that wall now, until called for the eventual mission... Already he is equipped with everything he needs.

"You should not wait long, for we will be leaving soon, Faeliun," Kaltidir said patiently. He expected this. For a week, the Pathfinders have been a base camp preparing manpower and supplies for the expeditions. Most were busy but not all and waiting for a week for something to happen while watching settlers and the wild initiative passing by. It was bound to get people restless and wanting to finally move out of base camp and into the unknown. That is why there joined, after all, exploring this new world and makes sure it is safe for those waiting on the other side of a dead world. But, he had to make sure that they were ready since any trace of rushing or reckless actions can easily ruin and get people killed. No one knows what is past the base camp and New Cahann, and he was dammed sure that the Pathfinders were square away first.

"When we depart, remember to not stray from the group, alert anyone when you hear a suspicious sound, and do not try to eat anything found in our trek. We still do not know what is safe or not to eat, and remember to stay near me, and you will be fine." Kaltidir gave a reassuring smile, "okay?" and his tone shifted to a more serious tone. "As for your tonics, we might need them, yes, though I would like to know that they are safe and what they do. I do not want a tonic to be too much and cause a casualty." The last thing Kaltidir needs or wants is someone to overdose on a tonic or worse, especially one made from local plants that scholars are still cataloging to find what is safe and what isn't. Still, she is trying to contribute, so he will see what she has to offer.

The young woman would look upon the, growing ever older Kaltidir Zornaar with unknowing attention... For as mr Zornaar would talk, he would also take seconds to think in addition.
And though it has been a while since Faeliun got her last chance to truly gauge someone via expression and posture, it would take quite the fool indeed to not notice that the Dragonborn had worry, and his own doubts. The scales, and the large scar across the face serves to create a very tough persona indeed, but it cannot save, or hide true emotions...
To be worried about the whole expedition would be normal. It would either take stupidity, or a complete carelessness to ignore all the potential warning signs... The Elf, Elenaril would have meditated on this pessimism during the whole of the week upon entering the mysterious Ehiri world. It would not take much at all to ruin the chance given, that is for certain...

However, Faeliun would soon force herself to her senses as Kaltidir finishes with his piece, most notably in saying:

Kaltidir Zornaar
"Remember to stay near me, and you will be fine, okay?
As for your tonics, we might need them, yes, though I would like to know that they are safe and what they do. I do not want a tonic to be too much and cause a casualty."

Faeliun would understand the Pathfinder Leader's nervousness in crafted potions and poisons, especially this early on... The ingredients of this strange world would indeed create some unknowable effects.
However, if there's a skill ms Elenaril would be truly skilled in is the Alchemical craft. In her studies, she has learnt many tricks, hints and secrets, and this includes identification. For consumption, either by oneself or by a willing or perhaps even unwilling participant is not always necessary to understand the basics of what a mysterious tonic could do. For it's all in appearance in some ways...

Explaining this to Kaltidir in the most honest way she could, Faeliun would say:

Faeliun Elenaril
"I understand the apprehension, sire... Allow me to give the most honesty I can.

Though pinpointing a tonic's effects precisely would be... All but useless without knowing the common effects an ingredient has, the basics can be told simply by appearance... That is, if Ehiri works on the same principles as Aviea does.
If the mixture fizzes or not. If so, in which way the mixture fizzes. The colour, the magics that ooze from it that a well trained practitioner could potentially identify... Even the weight can be telltale signs of how a unknown mixture would work. Usually, it is not difficult for me to tell of the most basic effect, whether the tonic would be poison, or potion.

You would be correct in your assumption, however... A mysterious tonic is inherently dangerous, however it could prove beneficial as well, very much so. I will not take any of the mysterious tonics brewed by mysterious ingredients should you wish for me not to, your word is my law after all.
(In a bout of thought, perhaps even pessimism) On the subject of risk, Kaltidir, if you would allow me to entertain my thought for a moment... Are we sure that the arrivals, both the animals that the wild initiative have carried through, and in addition us sentient races moving through the portal are... Well, not infected? I unfortunately doubt that a cure to the all too well known disease will come anytime soon, and I predict that if even one carrier comes to Ehiri... We will be back to square one, and the horrid plague will spread throughout this new world too."

"Hmmm," Kaltidir took a moment to think. So she thinks she can detect what the basic effect one of these mysterious tonics can do. So maybe these tonics can be useful but, still. They are made with native ingredients that are still unknown to them. Should he take the chance and simply let her bring these tonics with her? Though they are untested and... should he risk it? Kaltidir made up his mind. "I would say yes, but these tonics are untested and I would rather take tried and tested tonics. And as we do not have the time to properly test them before the first expedition starts, I have to tell you to leave them behind for now. We need to test them first before taking them with us, to see for sure what the effects are." True these tonics might be useful but, right now, Kaltidir, does not want to risk it.

Kaltidir let out a chuckle when Faeliun spoke about the possible infected moving through the portal. "Faeliun, the Council know full well the risk about letting an infected through the gate, nevermind the last safe places on Aviea. They are paranoid about it as they do not want to doom this world, our last chance of survival to the Rot. Only those that have been screened thoroughly and then some are allowed to pass to the new world. Do not worry about that, the Council are not fools and will be strict with who comes through the portal. Does that satisfy you?"

Okay, so perhaps she was off about who would be leading their expedition after all. She saw Faeluin head in the direction of a tall, sturdy Dragonborn...Kaltidir, if she remembered his name correctly. She'd said goodbye to her son, everything was packed, was there anything else on her list she needed to do before she left? I better go say goodbye to Sim.

Ash turned to her king, her liege lord, her best friend of literal decades...he may have changed somewhat in the mind, but he was still Sim. He was just effected by this Rot as they all were, losing friends, family and country would do this to anyone. "My lord, I had better be off." Ash almost seemed somewhat...nervous. His bright eyes turned to her. "Off where?"
"The Pathfinders, remember? We're going to make sure this new world is safe to live in? Sim, you've known about this for months."
"But I need you here, Ash! You can't leave me too, everyone else died...!"

"I won't die, I promise you." She took his hands and gave them a squeeze, the mask slipping. "But if anything does happen, take care of my son. Tell Laure that I love him."
"You'd better keep your promise."
"I always do. Farewell, Sire." And with that, she started to make her way to where Kaltidir and the rest were gathered. "Mornaiwe Sarymore reporting for duty, sir."

Faeliun did indeed expect for the old, careful Dragonborn pathfinder leader to be resistant to the idea of the young Dalish Elf having bringing along her crafted potions and poisons, and she would not let herself get upset over it, that is for certain... For even she is apprehensive to what these new ingredients and thus new tonics could do in addition, and perhaps the risk vs reward factor simply would not be worth it in this regard. So, as Kaltadir Zornaar had exclaimed:

Kaltidir Zornaar
"I would say yes, but these tonics are untested and I would rather take tried and tested tonics. And as we do not have the time to properly test them before the first expedition starts, I have to tell you to leave them behind for now. We need to test them first before taking them with us, to see for sure what the effects are."

Faeliun Elenaril would simply give a nod of understanding, and perhaps even agreement... Eventually, perhaps at a sooner time rather than later however, not only the tonics of which can be brewed from the the ingredients of Ehiri, but indeed the ingredients themselves would need to be tested and identified. Even off the topic of alchemy, what the base camp and New Cahann has currently will not last forever, and soon both will need to invest in becoming self-sustainable as the saddening destruction of Aviea continues.
But those thoughts are distracted when Kaltadir attempts to assure Faeliun on the safety of Ehiri from the 'rot', however it does not do much for her... She believes that even with the best screening, as the Dragonborn Pathfinder had said, no system could ever be fully secure.

But, perhaps now is not the time for worrying. For sooner rather than later, the first expedition will start, and finally the Pathfinder initiative would be making use of themselves...

Kaziimar wrote:Okay, so perhaps she was off about who would be leading their expedition after all.

"Oh Hello Mornaiwe," the newest arrival catching him slightly off guard and it seems like he is popular today. Maybe he should have expected this given that people are getting antsy about when the expedition will start. It has been a week of getting everything to get together but, today is the day they will finally get the ball rolling and see what is in this valley.

Changing his attention to the newcomer who he just does not quite remember who she is. Kaltidir did not meet every candidate that volunteered to join the Pathfinders. "You can relax for now Mornaiwe," he said calmly. Now to see someone that is not asking him a question though and one that is ready to leave. Just like Faeliun, who else he wondered is also set to begin? Addressing the two of them now, "It is nice to see that you two are here and ready to go. We will be leaving very soon and so if you missed anything or forgot something, do it now or very soon. This is a big valley and we will not be back for some time."

"Hello, sir!" Mornaiwe said brightly when Kaltidir approached her, she and Faeluin were the only two people that have showed up so far, it seemed. Surely the others were off taking care of last minute preparations or saying goodbye to loved ones. "I already said goodbye to my son, he'll be safe in his father's hands. I've said farewell to my king as well, everything is in order...but I do worry about leaving them alone, especially Sim. Laure is a clever and strong boy surrounded by help, but Sim isn't...he isn't mentally well, really. Hasn't been since the Rot spread."

"Hmmm,if you are unsure about him then I will have someone go over and watch him while we are gone." Kaltidir knows full well that since the Rot has claimed so many lives and claiming their former homes with no end in sight. It all has taken its toll on people's minds. Not all can handle it and he knows at least one member of the Slayers that has succumbed to it after the loss of family and his homeland. Not a pleasant sight and not one that someone should go through alone.

After taking a moment to up into the sky at the sun, it was high in the sky, just high enough that it had to be noon, and this was when Kaltidir decided on not wasting any more time. Clearing his throat, saying to those around him. "It is time we get this underway, spread the word to form up at the gathering area. Amra and the other two he was initially talking to. joined up with Kaltidir as he moved towards the gathering area.

It did not take long before everyone had mustered up to the gathering area with Kaltidir, Amra, a female kossith, and a male human at the front on a wooden platform. His eyes scanning the crowd to see if there were any late-minute attendees. Once he was sure that everyone had arrived, Kaltidir took a deep breath and spoke. "Now the reason I had I have gathered you here is that now after a week of preparation and waiting. We, the Pathfinders are now ready to finally go out and explore this world. But, first, we must survey this valley that despite being here a good while. It is still largely unexplored, and I want to know that this valley is truly safe. So the first expedition will be to explore the rest of the Aviean Valley and due to how big this valley is. We will be splitting the expedition into four parts in order to cover more ground." Motioning to his left where the three were. "Here will be your group leaders, Amra Leovaris in charge of Alpha, Seriha Nazayar in charge of Beta and Alexander Tarris in charge of Delta. I will be leading the final group Echo, and to find out which group you are apart of. Go to the board, and your name will be list to a group."Kaltidir pointed towards the back to make it clear where the board was. "If you have any questions talk to your group leader and without anything else. You twenty minutes to prepare and remember. Be careful and vigilant, though we have not run into any problems so far. This does not mean that this valley is safe, and may the ancestors bless us. Dismissed," Kaltidir ended, and him other with the expedition leaders got off the platform. The first expedition has begun, and now the Pathfinders will see what the valley holds.

Four hours later
Group Echo

So far, the group under Kaltidir has not seen much in terms of hostiles in the forest. The occasional wildlife that made the group stop to see it the herd was hostile. As what looked like could be an herbivore and after a minute of a standoff. The herd chose to move on and head towards the river the lied in the middle of the valley. Something that made Kaltidir relieved as the creatures move on. However, they did not seem afraid of their presence like the other wildlife that stayed to the branches of the trees. Also, seeming unafraid of the group, probably in Kaltidir's mind, is that since they are new to this world. There is no reason why these creatures should be afraid of them. Though he noted that as they moved more into the forest. The less he sees of any kind of animal. That must mean something, Kaltidir thought, and no sign of anything hostile or what could be considered a predator.

Still, the calming cool breeze did not stop Kaltidir from ever ending his vigilance. There is bound to be something dangerous in this valley, and he is rarely wrong. This is a new world that is bound to have something that might try to hunt them down. If there is any indication of the world of Aviea, that a world is bound to have monsters that need slaying. Something that he is qualified and others in Echo can do. Though not all, like Faeliun or the explorer dwarf Ruiner Drukiin. So it falls on him to protect them if they come across something that attacks them. Even though Kaltidir is more used to keeping company with those that can fight and are not afraid to die, it is a change that he has to deal with, becoming a protector within the group he is okay with. That and it does help that others in Echo can fight if needed, so the burden is not solely on him.

After a minute or two of walking, Kaltidir spoke up and said to anyone that listened and turned his head behind him. "How is everyone holding up so far? I know we have not seen anything hostile so far but, keep your eyes open. This is a large valley".
