So I had a CoD Warzone thread but it didn't pick up. Here's the OP for discussion purposes

Recently, Call of Duty Warzone, the battle royale spinoff game which was made to promote the sale of 2019's Modern Warfare, has had a massive change of the map and a few weeks ago a small live event by some standards. The events included a "Zombie Conflagration" in Verdansk and after a few weeks of buildup, the map was nuked due to the "conflagration" and we went back in time to 1984.

However, the game is not only a part of Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare reboot game(s), earlier this year Treyarch's Black Ops Cold War operators and weapons were integrated into the game and they cause some issues with the meta weapons and whatnot. Please note BOCW is set in the year 1984 and MW19 is set in 2021.


Now, my idea and theory. Take everything I say with a grain of salt. This is based off of my own inferences and information given to me via various sources across the internet.
I believe that Treyarch nuked the map to "remove" Modern Warfare from the Warzone storyline. (Warzone is non-canon as far as I know) They attempted to remove the modern day aspect from Warzone to continue the BOCW storyline when it actually happens. This may seem farfetched but it seems very reasonable (to my own bias).
In essence: BOCW integration>>>zombie event>>>nuke event>>>back in time 1984

I would say that your theory is accurate. The nuke event was meant to end the Modern Warfare storyline and let the Warzone narrative shift to the Cold War storyline, Cold War being the game that Activision now wants to promote. When the next COD releases I'd say we can expect another event of some kind to end the Cold War storyline and shift to the story of that new game. Hopefully that won't be as much of a clusterfuck as the Cold War integration.

I wonder if the three year development cycle of Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer then back is boinked now.

Cold War was originally supposed to be done by Sledgehammer (and Raven), so next year would have been Treyarch’s normal COD release.

There's a callback to FF6 in FF7R's music. In JENOVA Quickening, there's 3 notes near the beginning that mirror Kefka's final boss theme, Dancing Mad.

Finally getting around to playing that Hardspace: Shipbreaker game properly. Ive tried it a few times since i bought it and something came up or i got distracted by something and didnt put much time into it.

Its a really chill game when you get into it. The country western soundtrack fits the space dockyard worker theme.

Tbh they are lucky the DLC is being included at all, as the devs could have been total jackasses by just having the base games included and charging for each DLC separately...

It was a good DLC. Had a real Lawnmower Man vibe. I also love how even Paragon Shepard was pissed off enough to pistol whip his dickhead brother.
