Depends on the direction they'd be coming from. If they're coming on the main road and wish to meet with the paladins it's unlikely that they would have found any.

If they're coming from a different direction it might be possible, but you have given no indication that they're aware of how to fight and kill undead to begin with.

They're coming from the Merckburger Fen, which is on the Anselmnian Border. To be honest, my original idea was for them to encounter the border guards patrolling against 'infiltrators from Anselm, present their documents and papers saying they're crossing over legally, and then hear about the undead plague from them. Is that possible?

Edit: As for how they know how to fight and kill undead, aren't there legends saying that Fire and White Magic can kill them?

They are much more likely to hear the rumors from peasants. Border guards wouldn't detail the issues Wyzkia is dealing with to Anselmians.

Fire is indeed said to kill them, and there are special white magic spells that can help, though not all white magic can do it.

However, there is a difference between hearing stories and being faced with the walking corpse of what have until quite recently obviously been humans. Even well trained mages would struggle against the implications.

So if you want them to run into low-rank undead and kill them on the way sure, but it wouldn't be very easy. Setting them on fire entirely is tough, as is completely destroying their bodies, so keep that in mind.

There are of course other things that can be used when dealing with undead, but it will of course be up to them to make their preparations. Holy gold and silver helps, and they can not easily cross over running water.

And well trained mages can of course dispatch them more easily, but that requires training on how to fight against necromancy spells.
