So I hadn't heard that the story of Yasuke being made into an anime but I watched the clip on Netflix and thought it looked interesting. A vaguely historical fantasy about the black samurai, cool. Ten seconds in and there's a fucking mecha in the sengoku period and video game wizards. I don't think I've ever been more quickly turned off a show in my life.

As is to be expected in a vaguely historical fantasy. And let's face it, mecha are mandatory.

As is to be expected in a vaguely historical fantasy. And let's face it, mecha are mandatory.

As a dumb plot contrivance near the end of the show when I'm to invested to leave, not the first thing I see when hitting play. I was expecting something more like Golden Kamuy, fantastical at times but not absolutely absurd.

At least the script writers went straight for jumping the shark in the first episode, which is almost refreshing.

It's probably not a good sign for anime as a whole when my first reaction was "this is so generic" rather then "this is so out there."

Gone are the days of wonder, for now you've seen it all. You could always binge-watch all seasons of One Piece in order to reset your mind.

Could be his actually name translated into Japanese, he was likely from Mozambique and there are similar names in the region, or it could be some combination of a name from Portuguese and Japanese. No one really knows.

Watching a bit more into episode one, they don't seem to treat Yusake in any disrespectful manner. I'll likely not watch anymore but where I stopped he was a rōnin who was a former retainer and samurai of Oda Nobunaga. Which he was, well likely not a rōnin, we don't really know what happened to him after Nobunaga committed Seppuku.

I'm viewing all of DBZ for nostalgia (the uncut version, Japanese soundtracks, but Funimation dub). It takes the cake for slow plot progression but wow- are the fights 3+ hour epics. I blew past Garlic Jr. saga in one day. And the silver lining is that if past Frieza arc, there isn't a longer fight in the entire series to my knowledge. I'm putting in "over 9,000!!" minutes or hours to get to DB Super.

Should use four star English dub instead and the abridged version.

That's not a real/serious dub. Its more like a fandub. I'm interested in what was officially done or made and one which has accurate dialogue for the most part. It was done for so long that there are several English dubs to choose from, but the Funimation cast became definitive over time for the most part. If sticking with Funimation, that just leaves making sure the soundtracks are Japanese originals and not the Bruce Faulconer junk.

Edit: I've also decided that its no big deal if I absolutely can't find any English dubs of certain DBZ movies with the original soundtrack intact, provided I can look that up separately to listen to it. I'm more or less doing a "best effort" attempt where I purposely make sure to see the best version that is available overall- which is usually the uncut versions, but will go with an inferior version if the alternative is a sub or just not seeing it. Just as I'd go with a Sub only version if it was just never dubbed.

I know Dojima is probably going to be "boy" only in context of club activities but "Dojima realizes they're transguy arc when?" did go through my head watching newest episode of PBDC.
