President Taica Berislavić, Prime Minister Vio Kosar and Speaker of the Carto Aicil Vrban replaced with successors

3 top officials of the Republic of Lesva are replaced with figures succeeding them, as the provisional government moves forward

Reshuffling is happening in the provisional government of the Republic of Lesva. President Taica Berislavić, an acting head of state, has been replaced with another acting head of state – President Giva Tesin. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Vio Kosar, as acting head of government, is being replaced by Prime Minister Frei Jauca as another acting head of government. Finally, Speaker of the Carto Aicil Vrban, as acting speaker of the parliament, is being replaced by another acting speaker of parliament – Speaker of the Carto Visem Calbesu. The reshuffling is happening within a nonpartisan provisional government, replacing past nonpartisan acting officials with new unpartisan ones, with reasons unspecified.

Chief of the General Staff General Pava Sari confirms Belantica to be the country, which former President Puicu Gevin was relocated to

It has not been a day, since news broke that the media of Belantica may have exposed its’ own country as the location, where Lesva’s former President Puicu Gevin may have been relocated to. When that happened, Lesvan leadership in the government, military and the intelligence still kept secrecy. All that was said, was a statement by Chief of the General Staff of the Lesvan Armed Forces General Pava Sari, who like other Lesvan officials still kept secrecy of the former president’s location, despite being aware of it like other Lesvan officials but keeping it a secret from the Lesvan public, has made a statement that the “secret foreign sanctuary” of former President Puicu Gevin will strain relations with Lesva, if it does not give the former president back to Lesva upon request or a demand to do so.

Today, General Pava Sari is reiterating that statement, except that all the masks have been dropped and the General has confirmed Belantica as the location, where former President Puicu Gevin has gone to. It is no longer being referred to as the “secret foreign sanctuary.” Additionally, the General gave some details on how the Lesvan side participated in removing the former president from the country and cooperating with the Belantic side in having him removed:

The former president has been removed to Belantica with our cooperation. We will keep no more secrets regarding that story. All we are going to say now, is that we need Gevin to be returned to Lesva now in a peaceful hand-over. If the other side does not cooperate, then it risks adding itself to the list of unfriendly countries to us and we will blacklist countries in such a list in terms of any relations.

Former President Puicu Gevin returned back to Lesva

Ousted President of the Republic of Lesva Puicu Gevin has been returned to the homeland from Belantica in an extradition agreement

Former President Puicu Gevin ousted during the event of the Saela Spring, has returned to the Republic of Lesva from Belantica in an agreement on extradition with the government of the latter country. His plane landed in an airport in Saela this morning. The former head of state was greeted by “an army” of security personnel along with a number of law enforcement officers. At first, the security personnel took the former head of state to the presidential headquarters now occupied by President Giva Tesin, then to the headquarters of the government where Prime Minister Frei Jauca was and finally to the parliament, where Speaker of the Carto Visem Calbesu was. Later on, the former president was taken in by law officers for questioning at a precinct in Saela and now he has been put under house arrest at his Saela home for an unspecified period of time. The security personnel and the police say that the side of Belantica gave a file of documents when transferring over former President Puicu Gevin, but keeping secrecy, nobody from the law enforcement, the security personnel nor government officials have disclosed what the file is about. The fate of former president Gevin in terms of his personal freedom is under question now. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Pagala Ira and former Speaker of the Carto Atsac Colecta remain abroad at undisclosed foreign asylums.

With the Senate election, along with several local council elections, less than a week away, the parties are making their final appeal to the voters who they hope will hand them the Senate. Party activists have been up and down the country, especially in swing areas, such as all 4 regional capitals, Madam Blue Street Cedar Point and Semina Sabidah, as well as Eadshire, which is holding a by-election next Thursday as well. Two Glimpusmen preparing for a fight

SAN ARLOS - Glimpusmen Forest and Glimpusmen Ocean, two indie games made by Corindi developer LoadLord have recently taken nations in the islesby storm. Last week the first copies arrived in Hyukai and nearly 2 million copies have been sold.

The goal of the game is is to collect, trade and battle a large number "Glimpos" each one having different forms. Some of these go through a "Reglimpifying" process after winning a certain number of battles or traded to a friend. Once obtaining a Glimpo, it will be added to a "Glimpfolio". While some players prefer to collect and fill out their Glimpfolio, others tend to battle in an online multiplayer battle league called the Glimpusmen Battle League and climb up GBL ranks.

Henki Dennel of Gamequest has rated it a 9/10 stating: "The game is very fun and I can see why. When you get a Glimpo it gives you happiness and it is very fun to battle as well. Plus, with new Glimpos being added, it seems like the Glimpfolio is far from complete!"

More Evidence Showed What Happened on Flight 417

Herman E. Semenov

CAPPAREUS - It has been more than 3 months after Lacoa Flight 417 crashed en route from Cappareus to Arnton, Ainslie. The Hyukaian Accident Investigation Board (HAIB) has not revealed much information regarding the investigation. However, this morning the HAIB has announced some details on their investigation.

They revealed that somewhere near Thromsonian Waters, the crew misread the speed indicator thinking they were too fast. The HAIB are convinced that the indicator was in fact broken. Once slowing it down to the correct speed, the indicator showed its true speed; around 130 Knots. They began pushing it down in order to gain more speed. It is still unknown how they ended up spiralling towards the Eterna Sea but the most likely conclusion was the inadequate training of Second Officer Liecher.

Two memorials; one in Cappareus and another in Arnton is being planned.

Acting President Giva Tesin visits Solaryia

President Giva Tesin, acting head of state, on an official visit to far-away Solaryia

Image

Acting President Giva Tesin has made the first foreign visit since taking office to the distant land of Solaryia. The visit is presented as a “good-will visit”, being unclear or at least unspecified whether the countries are seeking to create any bilateral agreements or extend ties in any other ways. President Giva Tesin would be meeting Consul Conti Bellarys on this visit. The president clarified that the visit does not hold strategic character at least, since Lesva is strategically committed towards a relationship only with countries like Balnik and Aprosia in the current state of affairs. However, political, economic or social agreements with Solaryia have not been ruled out, even though it is also said to be early for such agreements in such areas to advance only during the first such visit and interaction between the countries.

Lesva plans to aid Westmoor Isles against natural disasters

Lesva plans to extend a helping hand to Westmoor Isles hit by natural disasters

While the president is abroad, acting Prime Minister Frei Jauca said that Lesva is planning to aid Westmoor Isles, which is a country hit by natural disasters at the moment, having started with uncontrollable floods. Westmoor Isles is currently struggling to control the situation, while the damage has been done in human casualties and property damage. Lesvan leadership has not specified what kind of aid is going to be sent yet, however, an “aid package” is supposedly being prepared. Stay tuned for updates.

Tsunter Aid Taskforce to be sent to relieve devastated Wake Islands.
Image
Jack's Daughter, one of the repurposed ships being sent to Wake
Sud to provide aid.

The Tsunterlands will spend upwards of 40 Million SP to provide aid to Wake Sud to help the impoverished island recover in the aftermath of the recent unusual and devastating storms that affected much of the North Mesder. In a press conference held yesterday, the Grand Conclave announced that a taskforce will be created to provide the aid which will come in the form of workers and materials to help rebuild the damaged infrastructure, along with medical professionals and emergency supplies to relieve the struggling islanders. The government did not comment on whether aid will be sent to Atolla or Norregan which have been similarly affected by the flooding.

The emergence of the low pressure conditions, responsible for the floods began in early April with reports of unusually bad weather affecting the state of Bernow in Westmoor. The Westmoorish cities of Devil’s Alley and Angel’s Peak were severely affected by the weather. Initial reports suggested that around 11 people were killing in the flooding and the economic cost to Westmoor is as yet unknown. The weather hit the Wake Islands on the 20th of April and has ravaged the three islands which are some of the poorest places in the whole of Western Isles. One unconfirmed report stated Karanoa, the capital of Wake Sud was under five feet of water. Others are claiming Wake Atolla has been left completely cut off by the flooding with the Atolllan government issuing a statement to the League Secretary-General that no aid workers are sent to island. Wake Sud and Norregan have however requested aid with many governments across the Isles answering the call.

The government have partnered with Bonny Marine Industrial Cooperative (BMIC), a shipping cooperative centred on the North Coast to help send aid. BMIC played similar roles domestically during the 1989 and the 2008 flooding of the North Coast and have experience with crisis management. According to a joint government-BMIC statement, which they’ve clarified may be subject to future revision, the bulk of aid taking to the Wake Islands will be carried out by elements of BMIC fleet with two canalmax cargo ships being drafted to transport materials and supplies to North Mesder. Both have been refitted to carry a helicopter, provided by the Tsunder Defence Force, to help ease traversing the islands. The TDF have also drafted a 40-man platoon from the 2nd Logistics Company to help support the taskforce’s efforts. Accompanying the taskforce is Annie’s Kiss, a former cruise ship which was bought by BMIC and refitted in 2008 to house aid workers during the North Coast flood. Directorship of the taskforce has been giving to Captain Andreo Sandy Chae’La Bonny, a senior officer within BMIC and local Bonny clan bande-captain.

Response to the government’s announcement has been divided. While many have praised the government’s decision to send aid others have questioned the government’s decision to send aid to a region that has been traditionally seen as outside of the CTR’s sphere of concern. Some have said this represents a break with the government’s previous non-interventionist policy, noting the disparity between the government’s decision to aid the Wake Islands and its controversial opposition to Resolution 22, a proposed league policy to combat indentured servitude. Other commenters have expressed dissatisfaction with the heavy reliance on the private sector to within the aid taskforce.

Former Gendarme sentenced to 10 years in decades old Ipachi teen murder case
Image
Lieutenant Knasal Chae’La Fowl (central)
and other Gendarme officers in 1975

Former Gendarmerie Lieutenant Vanko Knasal Chae’La Fowl is guilty of the murder of 15 year old Aulani Iokua in 1979, the Baztoyan High Magistrate’s Court has ruled. Iokua was shot dead during a Gendarmerie raid on a ACRA weapon’s stash. During the initial report Knasal claimed that the 16 year old was wielding a firearm however a subsequent investigation forty years later has found sufficient evidence to contrary, leading to the case being brought back to trial. Knasal, now 67, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Iokua was a member of the ACRA, or Anti-Colonial Resistance Army, an organisation of Ipachi and other Argean native militants who committed a string of terror attacks across Argus during 1970s and 1980s. They played a key role in the conflict known as “the Trials”, a period of ethnic violence between Ethnic Tsunter’s and various minority groups. Iokua is believed to have been recruited by his cousin Noelani who was arrested in 1984 due his role in the bombing of Dominazioa and died in prison in 1999 of a drug overdose.

On 4th of June 1979 the 13 year old Iokua was stationed as a lookout on 108 Konkistatzailea Road, Baztoya, an three storey apartment block where the ACRA where keeping large number of weapons and explosive materials. The Baztoyan Gendarmie, having received an intelligence tip about the location, executed a raid on the apartments on the same day at 3 AM. Spotting the raid coming Iokua is believed to have initially hid within the apartments and attempted but failed to contact his seniors within the ACRA. According to the initial report Iokua emerged from his hiding space during the raid and took aim at the Gendarmie officers leading to Knasal to firing on the terrorist in self-defence. Along with Iokua one other ACRA member was killed in the raid, while four others, three males and one female were captured and arrested.

The alternate account of the raid was that Knasal fired on Iokua after finding him hiding with his weapon holstered. This version of events is believed to have originated with Kamea Ola, the female ACRA member arrested in the raid, and became common urban legend among the Ipachi community in Baztoya. Ola herself died in 2015 of lung cancer. The common retelling of Ola’s story notably gets many details incorrect such as describing the planned and well-executed raid, which only last around four minutes in reality, as an extended shootout between the Gendarmie and the ACRA following the refusal to allow Gendarme Officers access into the apartment.

While Iokua’s family, most of whom have a history of troubles with the law, have been campaigning for the case to be brought to trial since the incident the campaign only started picking up steam in 2018 following the intervention of local politician, Hilo Kaluhiwa. Kaluhiwa is a deputy in the People’s Parley for the Civic Union party and are themselves of Ipachi descent. They have earned a name for themselves for their firebrand anti-government and pro-ipachi rhetoric and are, according some sources, regarded as something of a liability for the Civic Union Party. Since 2018 Kaluhiwa chose to champion Iokua’s case as part of their broader campaign for ‘justice’ for the Ipachi terrorists killed in the Trials. Many voices in Baztoya and the wider Ray region included those from the Ipachi community themselves have expressed dismay at Kaluhiwa’s efforts, which is felt to be divisive and unwelcome amongst a community that has spent the last three and a half decades healing from the violence.

Kaluhiwa successfully lobbied the Baztoyan Magistrates Court to open and investigation into the case in April 2019. While the findings of the investigation, which was concluded in January 2020, was not made public it found sufficient evidence that the Gendarmerie version of events was inaccurate causing the murder to be brought to trial. The trial was concluded yesterday with the court concluding that Knasal, who retired in 1996 after a distinguished career of 20 years with the Gendarmerie, was responsible for the murder of Aulani Iokua without provocation. In a statement from Nasal’s legal team giving after the sentencing it was announced that they would be seeking to appeal the sentence. A fund has already been set up online by residents of Baztoya to pay for Knasal’s next round of legal fees with the fund organiser stating that sending a upstanding Gendarmerie veteran and local community pillar to decade in prison for a forty year old incident is a parody of justice.

Foiled Highway Robbery Leaves 8 Dead, 2 Wounded Along Hena Road

Multiple sources have reported that a firefight broke out between private security and armed bandits today when the latter attempted to sieze a secure transport convoy on Hena Road between Hena and Port Bonare. Seven were shot dead over the course of the incident, including two Serval Solutions employees who were guarding the convoy. A Gendarmerie officer was also killed shortly after while responding. Two civilian motorists were caught in the crossfire and received wounds. Five criminals were killed, with others possibly being wounded.

The Martenyikan-based firm Serval Solutions has announced that it was responsible for protecting the convoy, which carried an unknown but presumably valuable cargo and/or occupants. The convoy has since reached its undisclosed destination in the vicinity of Port Bonare. Tonight a Serval spokesman said that while the firm laments the loss of two of its security employees, the security team performed admirably and succeeded in their mission despite resistance.

A student and film enthusiast, Alem Alengae, was travelling to Port Bonare and found himself just behind the convoy when the clash ensued. Alengae has shared his footage of the incident, which he caught on his camera. The explicit video captures the moments after the convoy is blocked, including the exchange of gunfire Alengae has since described as "terrifying."

Banditry or "highway robbery" is not completely foreign to travellers along Hena Road, nor across certain other parts of Martenyika. However due to efforts like law enforcement patrols and local vigilance, it is not as widespread as it may have been at some points in the past. Large, determined bandit gangs like the one encountered today are especially rare in the western parts of Martenyika, which is why the Gendarmerie assures that it will step up efforts in the area.

Biaten goes to the polling station in Senate Election

Image

Today, hundreds of thousands of voters will flock to cast their ballots in Biaten’s second Senate Election since the upper house’s creation in 2018. Polling stations opened at 7am and will close at 10pm, while most people are given a day off work in order to cast their vote. A total of 100 senators will be chosen under the first-past-the-post system from a total of 956 candidates who are standing for election. All results are expected to be announced by tomorrow afternoon.

This is the first test of Chancellor Siegel’s premiership since last years Presidential, National Diet and Regional elections. In that time, the government has abandoned its isolationist policy for an open policy with other countries to be a founding member of the Western Isles Democratic Alliance and attempting to join the G4 alliance, which could affect the outcome of this election. The Senate that is elected today could be around until 2026, which is when the next Senate election should be held according to the Constitution. This means that this new Senate could greatly affect the ability of the current government to pass legislation as well as determine who will have the greater ability to form a government after the scheduled 2024 National Diet election.

PRIME MINISTER O'CONNOR ISSUES OFFICIAL "THANK YOU" FOR FOREIGN SUPPORT

Statement from the Office of the Prime Minister Shows Gratitude

Last night Prime Minister O'Connor released an official statement showing the Westmoor Isles' gratitude for the crucial assistance provided by nations such as Ainslie, Albeuve, and Lesva. The statement, which official reports claim was personally written by O'Connor himself, included sentiments rarely expressed by the Westmoorish government such as "our nation is a nation which could not be here were it not for the help of our foreign brothers" and a closing statement that read "You can consider Westmoor your brother until the end of time." Recovery efforts are moving swiftly forward and it is believed that most of the floodwaters will have been removed by the end of next week.

The full statement can be read online at http://www.wmn3.co.wmi/oconnorgratitude_21

LABOUR PARTY TO RAMP UP CAMPAIGNING FOR NEXT MONTH'S MIDTERMS

"Floods have not delayed our campaign efforts," says MP Sasha Wilson

The Westmoorish Midterm Election is scheduled for June 10th and, despite floods ravaging the state of Bernow, the major political parties of Westmoor have begun their campaigns to gain seats in Parliament. Because seats in the House of Commons are elected semiannually, all 100 seats are up for grabs. Result projections predict that the Liberty Party will lose more seats than it'll gain for the first time since the 1970s, a worrying predicament for the party's majority in Parliament and an exciting possibility for the smaller parties that have been gaining power in recent years.

Of those who expect gains in Parliament is Sasha Wilson, Labour Party member and current 13th MP for the state of Bernow. Wilson took the mantle of leader of the Labour Party in 2018, after she won a landslide vote for the 13th seat and became the then youngest MP in parliament at the age of 21. Now 24, she plans to maintain her seat in Parliament despite several contenders vying for the position. Rumors are that she has set her eyes on the office of Prime Minister, hoping to become the second ever Prime Minister to belong to the Labour Party. Wilson told WMN3 that the Labour Party has not been slowed down at all by floods and that she believes the disaster has helped reveal the shortcomings of the Westmoorish government's status quo.

Among Wilson's contenders is Hank Gallagher, a young, right-wing, grassroots politician who previously ran for the seat in 2020 as a member of the Conservative Party. On the 6th of April, Gallagher released a statement announcing his switch to the National Interest Party, a move many conservative politicians have taken as dissatisfaction with the Conservative Party grows in Westmoor. The National Interest Party has drawn a large amount of controversy since its foundation in 1939, with many alleging that it is a fascist and isolationist movement. Supporters of the National Interest Party have denied this claim, insistent that the party simply hopes to reclaim what they believe is the lost "Wesmoorish Pride" within the nation.

Opinion polls taken in the beginning of April by WMN3 indicated that public approval of the Liberty Party and Prime Minister O'Connor was down by 13% compared to the previous poll taken prior to his election in December of 2020. This poll was taken before the flooding in the state of Bernow, so it is currently unclear how public opinion has been impacted, though TWItter posts from Westmoor have become increasingly negative towards O'Connor and his management of the crisis. This same poll also revealed that an increasing number of Westmoorans would be willing to vote for a candidate from a party besides the Liberty, Progressive, and Conservative parties.

Congress Approves Aid for Wake

Following the devastating storm that hit the North Mesder sea late last month, the Doman congress has approved a multi-million dollar relief effort for the hard hit islands of Wake.

Domanania has always been a supporter of the Kingdom of Norregan and it was no question that the government would pledge support to the kingdom, which was devastated from the storm, but there was a week long debate over if the government would pledge any support to the islands of Sud and Atolla. Congress announced today that all islands will be receiving aid.

Prime Minister Beyn Tarr presided over the congress, and announced the decision.

"With a final vote of 159-41, the resolution is passed. The "Wake Relief Bill" is passed. The Federation authorizes the use of the Military Emergency Disaster Act (MEDA) to dispatch the 2nd Engineer Company to Wake, accompanied by the war ship FNS Vérthé, which will be the primary platform to air lift Aid. Keeping to the terms the various governments have laid out, we will remain in international waters and air lift aid in to the approved air fields."

The prime minister was met with applause before continuing. "We believe that the Kingdom of Norregan has been most devastated by this calamity. We encourage our allies to follow our example and help the struggling nation." He exited the podium to more applause and the bill was officially passed. Reports have already come in of the FNS Vérthé is already being loaded with multiple tons of supplies, as well as the 2nd Engineer Company also being loaded with heavy machinery.

First Hunter Valley Building Cleared

Following the deadly protests in mid April, several more minor protests were reported, attempting to block demolition crews. Armed police had pushed into the first building, and forcefully cleared the apartments room by room. 500 residents that refused to leave were arrested and removed. There are reports that a resident attacked officers with a knife, wounding one officer.

By March 1st, the last of the rooms have been cleared, and the building was approved for demolition. After 2 days of setting charges, the engineers detonated the building. However, the building only partially collapsed. Several supports held strong, and heavy machinery was brought in to demolish the rest of the building.

By the 6th, the entire building was demolished and the rubble was being cleared. At the same time, police were pushing through protestors and stubborn residents that refused to vacate. It is estimated that 100-200 more residents are refusing to leave. Officers in charge estimate that with the majority of protestors dispersed, that they will have the 2nd building cleared by the end of the week

Brutal Ambush Targets Gendarmes Near Hena Road, Tied to Yesterday's Firefight
Image

Three Gendarmes were found dead by their patrol truck near Hena Road this evening, following an apparent ambush. This follows directly on the heels of yesterday's harrowing firefight in the same area, between convoy security guards and a bandit gang; one Gendarme was killed while responding to the disturbance.

The three Gendarmes were found both inside and in close proximity to their vehicle which was located a distance from Hena Road. Locals reported many gunshots, suggesting that there may have been a struggle. Bullet casings were strewn around the area, but it is unknown how many or if any attackers were killed and wounded. The gang stole all weapons including rifles, pistols, and possibly one shotgun. Authorites are considering the very real possibility that this incident was tied to Wednesday's events. "Based on the similar location, tactics, level of armement, and violence, this seems to be the same criminal gang from Wednesday...they may have intended this as a message," claimed a Gendarmerie spokeswoman.

It marks the second time locals to this area of Hena Road have been disturbed by such brazen and violent banditry in 24 hours. Local residents have expressed concerns for their own safety, but they've also vowed to improve their vigilance.

Eadshire by-election
Alexa Jekyll (Democratic Party): 3,724 (51.1%)
Social Democratic Party: 2,745 (37.7%)
Conservative Democratic Party: 319 (4.4%)
Communist Party: 263 (3.6%)
National Revolution Party: 71 (1%)
Other: 159 (2.2%)

This election has been crippling for the Social Democrats, as they have now lost 9 of their seats, which has made it more difficult for them to continue to control the Senate. The Communist Party took 9 constituencies in largely working-class areas. The Communist success this election may have come down to continued support of isolationism from urban citizens, opposition to the growth of the bureaucracy that has occurred under the Social Democrats and the concern that free trade with other countries may cause greater income inequality. The Conservative Democrats also gained several seats, taking many more moderate conservative voters from the Social Democrats as a result of taking on some centrist policies. The Democratic Party has taken the Eadshire constituency in the Senate, as well as the National Diet constituency in the by-election. Alexa Jekyll has been elected to the National Diet, making her the first hearing-impaired MP to sit in the National Diet. The National Revolution Party has also lost several of its seats to the Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the Movement for Justice lost both of its seats, losing one to the Social Democrats and one to the Biaten People’s League. The far-right Social Conservative Party leader Kyson Schuler won the seat of North Auvia, a staunchly conservative constituency. Schuler has said that he wants to separate white and non-white communities, as well as work to rid Biaten of socialists.

The result has been crippling to the government, who may not be able to control the Senate with a minority anymore. They might either end up having to relinquish control of the Senate to another coalition; oversee a chaotic and divisive Senate; reach out to the other parties to form a coalition, which is not ideal for the Chancellor as that would mean he would have to remove many of his cabinet colleagues to replace them with his coalition partners; or work with the other parties on a vote-by-vote and bill-by-bill basis, maybe forming one or two confidence and supply agreements. It is most likely that the government may need to compromise with the other parties in order to get anything passed, especially legislation on foreign policy, as most of the other parties are sceptical of membership of the G4 and WIDA.

The Chancellor is expected to announce his government’s plan moving forward on Monday. A Senate President election to elect a new Senate President is also expected to begin next week. President Breitbarth will be addressing a joint session of Parliament on Tuesday for the State Opening.

Lesva and Balnik begin a joint military exercise on Faronna Island

A planned joint military drill between Lesva and Balnik on Faronna Island has finally begun

Lesva and Balnik have begun their planned joint military exercise on Faronna Island. The exercise is nameless and it has not been specified for how many days it would last. According to Chief of the General Staff of the Lesvan Armed Forces General Pava Sari, the military drill would include the army, the navy, the air forces, the marine corps and other branches that either military has. The Lesvan side claims the joint military exercise does include a simulation of defending Faronna Island from outside attack or invasion, but it also overall is meant to strengthen the strategic military alliance between Lesva and Balnik.

Lesva has reached out to Serpoje in providing help from the consequences of the earthquake in Gerede

Another country has been hit by a natural catastrophe, following Lesva’s involvement in aiding the Westmoor Isles from the floods. This time, Serpoje has been hit by an earthquake, specifically the city of Gerede. Acting President Giva Tesin, having returned from Solaryia, has offered help to Serpoje in providing relief and also helping in reconstruction after the earthquake consequences.

Travel Advisory Issued for Hena Road Area Amidst Escalating Violence

The Martenyikan government has issued an advisory to all visitors who may wish to travel between the cities of Hena and Port Bonaré. The government issued this advisory following another violent incident which occurred in the vicinity of Hena Road last night between the Gendarmerie and criminal elements. One Gendarme received a light wound, however two individuals were killed.

In what some have described as an "engagement," the Gendarmerie encountered criminal elements last night which were tied to previous incidents on Hena Road. Despite another firefight, the Gendarmerie were able to recover a vehicle full of large amounts of Kej as well as valuable items. Authorities believe this new gang is tied to a string of violent robberies throughout the area, centered around Hena Road. The government stresses that this is not an advisory for all of Martenyika, but only this one part of the nation. According to a government spokesman "most travelers are safe, thanks to efforts from our Gendarmerie and local vigilance, but we want everyone to stay safe."

At least some of these criminals attempted to seize a secure transfer convoy on May 5th, and attacked a Gendarmerie patrol on May 6th, killing two Gendarmes in the commission of these crimes. Two members of the convoy's security team, staffed by Serval Solutions Group employees, also lost their lives in the May 5th heist attempt which exploded into a terrifying firefight on the road itself. There is an allegation that SSG employees were present alongside Gendarmes last night, although there is no proof either way at this point.

HIGH COUNCIL CONDEMNS FARONNA LESVA-BALNIK MILITARY EXERCISES, I FLORIN CELION SAYS 'ROENDAVAR IS NOT SCARED'
Gael News
11th of May, 2021

FREE CITY OF DOCIARA, ROENDAVAR- The Roendavareil High Council has issued a new condemnation against the governments of the Federation of Balnik and the Republic of Lesva due to the new joint military exercises conducted by the two in the Faronna Islands, a highly contested area in the Gael Region.

Months have passed since the occupation of the Faronna Islands by the Federation of Balnik and it remains a tense asubject up to this day. The Roendavareil government has maintained the position that the Faronna Islands are either shared territory between Roendavar and Balnik, thus, both must have a voice in activities done in the Faronna Islands. Meanwhile, the Federation of Balnik contests this, withdrawing from the Faronna Islands agreement and maintaining the position that it was done in order to solve the country's energy woes. Now, reports from the HEI have revealed a build-up of military equipment in the islands, suggesting that there may be more to the Balniki front than has officially been disclosed. Now, the Republic of Lesva has joined the Balniki occupation of Faronna Islands and has conducted military exercises, adding a new player to the Faronna Islands Dispute. It can be remembered that the Gaeltic nation of Lesva had contested elections and martial law declared. This new development has inflamed tensions in Gael, with the Roendavareil High Council convening and issuing a new condemnation regarding the Faronna Islands occupation, this time, including the Republic of Lesva.

"We urge the Federation of Balnik and the Republic of Lesva to halt further military activity in the Faronna Islands and to stop inflaming tensions in the region. Strong-arm shows of power do not enforce legitimacy, rather, it proves to the international community that these countries are not afraid to use underhanded and shameful tactics. The Roendavareil position regarding the Faronna Islands Dispute remains unchanged, it is a shared territory between Roendavar and Balnik and we object to its use as a means of force or its continued destruction of natural resources. We advise the Republic of Lesva, or other third-parties that meddle with the Faronna Islands Dispute, to stop their misguided attempts to project their interests. The Roendavareil High Council is now reviewing its diplomatic relations with the Republic of Lesva. Further escalation and the Utopian Kingdom of the Union of Roendavarian States will not hesitate to take up the two countries in the international chambers."

i Florin Celion Faunus Eleos Caenalren Iralethias has issued an address via the Royal Press, quote,

"I urge the nations of Gael to deescalate tensions, especially regardng the Faronna Islands. This recurring theme of force in the islands will only end the same, in chaos and in disorder. This is not the wish of Roendavar and, I hope, is not the wish of the Federation of Balnik and the Republic of Lesva. It is unacceptable. We must strive for understanding and peace in any way we can. However, to those who wish to continue such actions, remember this, Roendavar is not scared. We are not intimidated nor cowed by such reckless theatrics. Our position regarding the Faronna Islands is absolute and final. We will stand, just as we always have. "

Cafarien of the i Pilonas-Ecanthrein Althoreinas elea Roendavar (The Pilonas-Ecanthrein University of Roendavar) Galaeren Iathcafael Dreinaveis said this in an interview on HMN earlier this day. When asked if he was surprised with the Republic of Lesva aligning itself with the Federation of Balnik, he said,

"No one is surprised. We saw it from a mile coming. The Republic of Lesva is not a republic anymore. It is ruled by a military junta that does not care about democracy or freedom. Naturally, birds of the same feather, flock together. Both nations want to cling on and exert their power in any way they can, and that includes their meandering at the Faronna Islands."

As for his view on the military exercises between the two countries,

"While the Federation of Balnik and the Republic of Lesva keeps up a facade of power in the Faronna Islands, they delude themselves. The military exercises conducted by the two only proves two things, none of it in their favour. One, the flimsy excuse of the Federation of Balnik that they have occupied the islands for the sake of survival and their electricity woes is a farce, instead, it is, as this has proven, a show of power. Second, the Federation of Balnik, now including the Republic of Lesva, are a menace to the peace of Gael. They have lost all credibility and diplomatic leverage amongst the international community and, frankly, the Utopian Kingdom of the Union of Roendavarian States thank them for this move."

As for what Roendavar should do in response,

"Well, we can't really match them in a show of power. We are not known for our military after all. In what the government must do, I see no wrong in what they are doing so far. The Federation of Balnik and the Republic of Lesva is doing us a favour. A vulnerable nation that stands against two bullies. If there is anything that would court diplomatic assurances for Roendavar, that's a picture that will serve us useful in the following months. "

Here are some TWItter posts by Roendavareil users regarding the #FaronnaIslands dispute and military exercises.

Lesva has deployed help to Gerede, Serpoje after receiving permission from the leadership of Serpoje to which aid was offered as the official channel. The help that has been sent are Emergency Response Groups and the troops of the Lesvan Armed Forces. Their task is to provide relief from the immediate earthquake consequences and also stay behind for longer to help out with reconstruction from the earthquake, unless the leadership of Serpoje asks to leave earlier.

Acting President Giva Tesin says that military exercise on Faronna Island will not end preemptively

In an indirect response to the leadership of Roendavar, acting head of state President Giva Tesin says that the joint military exercise between Lesva and Balnik on Faronna Island will not end early

Acting President Giva Tesin has responded to the criticism of the leadership of Roendavar and various voices in that country, who criticize the joint military exercise of Lesva and Balnik on Faronna Island, a disputed territory between Balnik nd Roendavar. The president did not say whether Roendavar’s claims or complaints were legitimate. All that the acting head of state said, was that the drill would not end preemptively before its’ scheduled conclusion.

Gabriel Macheret: "Albeuve ready to explore deeper partnerships with states in crisis in order to ameliorate economic recovery and development"

- Albeuve's recent expansion of emergency aid to the Westmoor Isles following flooding is part of a concerted strategy by the ARLV government to extend Albeuve's hand to the world. It's principles are simple. Build markets, build prosperity, build lasting democratic institutions, and world peace will follow.

The last few weeks have been treacherous for the peoples of the Isles. Floods across Westmoor and the Wake Isles, an earthquake in Serpoje, and a rise in banditry within Martenyika have all struck with a sort of simultaneity which is sadly the norm in this region. While this has, predictably, provoked a wave of states offering immediate aid to the affected populations, many critics have cited the short term nature of such programs and the risk they pose of creating dependence and subservial relations between states. At a press conference, Albeuvien President Gabriel Macheret took the occasion to extend Albeuve's hand to the world and explain his government's vision for a more just model of economic and social aid.

"The most important thing when one looks to aid programs around the world is resilience. As the well known saying goes, you can feed a man for a single day if you give him a fish, but when you teach him to fish for himself he will be able to sustain himself. Aid functions in the same way. You cannot learn to fish if you have not eaten for the day, so of course in times of crisis direct aid in the form of food, water and other such materials is essential. But what we hope to do is promote mutually beneficial partnerships with the countries we work with. For example, consider the case of our longstanding aid partnership with Martenyika. This is a vibrant country which has so much potential, and our main goal has been to help the country realise this potential. We have not just sent in teachers or doctors, we have helped work with Martenyikan firms to build schools and hospitals. We have provided opportunities for Martenyikas to benefit from education in our country so that they can go back to their own country to spread this knowledge. There is no point in providing a band-aid solution when you can help in a far deeper way. Simply throwing money at issues doesn't make them go away, this is why we have helped build the local capacities to grow and will continue to do so. Another country we have worked with is Athara Magarat, and have helped provide the capital needed to establish schools and universities. Many of these universities have close relations with those in our country, granting them access to top-of-the-line academics as guest teachers. It is our hope that many more of such partnerships can be established across the isles, for the region is but a global village, an interconnected community."

A core part of the Albeuvien model is the promotion of responsible and democratic governance. Wherever possible, Albeuve has contributed to literacy drives, helped provide expert advice when setting up electoral infrastructure and establishing a responsible international community. Working with Dormill and Stiura, the nation's main partner, Albeuve has been active in providing endowments to emerging democracies and democratic activists across the Isles in order to advance their cause. Such revolutionary changes are the fruit of the Alliance of Liberals, Reformists and Greens (Alliance des Libéraux, Réformateurs et Verts - ALRV), which took power in 2018 and have looked to reform much of the nation's foreign policy.

"In the past, Albeuve looked out only for Albeuve," explained Macheret, "but such attitudes were merely the product of cynical realpolitik. We can see that as the world progresses and prospers, wars decrease. Liberal democracies do not fight liberal democracies, and they tend to be the most well off countries on the global scale. We hope to spread such prosperity to the Isles."

Macheret took the occasion of the press conference to offer aid to Serpoje and the Wake Isles, which have been touched by natural disaster recently, and to condemn the recent provocations by Lesva and Balnik. "When democracy is threatened, the free world must stand together in condemnation of senseless militarism and jingoism. Albeuve stands with our friends in Roendavar and urges all parties to step back so that the Faronna dispute can be resolved by words."

President announces major policy shift
Kevara, Keverai
14 May 2021

Image

Image: President Renaut at the press conference today in Kevara

President Burnell Renaut today announced one of the largest and most comprehensive policies he has sought to implement since his groundbreaking election in February 2019. It is set to radically alter multiple industries at the same time from social security to education to the industrial relations system and to commercial enterprises. It comes following two years of relative quiet from an administration whose revolutionary sentiment has been marked by what could easily be taken for inaction.

Renaut today, in a press conference at Kevara Gardens announced what he has dubbed the ‘Eyes Open’ policy. Harking to the post-war sentiment of the middle of the 20th Century, the President marked what he saw as a major and necessary step for Keverai.

“In the wake of the First Imperial War, where our cities were decimated and brought to their knees and where Keveraites looked to their government to get them out of a dismal and confused state they were met with a radical approach which proved to be wildly successful. The simple mantra they stuck to in everything they did was this.

There is a world of opportunity out there. Catching these opportunities will lift Keverai out of its state and towards prosperity.

And they were very correct. With the support of international investment, particularly from the Alterran Republics and from Aizcona, Keverai rode the wave of the post-war boom. This gave rise to our glistening cities which stand as a powerful reminder of what the Keveraite people can do. What we can do when we swallow our pride and realise that there is an open door for us to walk through, one that leads us to prosperity through steady and constructive relationships with other nations.”

In a similar vein, he announced major changes to Keverai’s policy on a number of fronts.

“It is clear there is a problem in the towns and cities north of Leafy Valley. Our rural and regional communities have been suffering for too long and recent developments in Keverai, particularly the revelations surrounding the Keverai Papers, threatened the manufacturing industry and saw mass unemployment arise. This, coupled with a lack of infrastructure and frankly a lack of government responsibility or accountability, led to these forgotten people living in conditions city-dwellers would be revolted by.

Accordingly, our re-pivot to the international arena has our rural communities front and centre. Beginning in the coming months, we will be implementing a number of measures to support rural Keveraites to be able to thrive without having to flock to the city.

We stand with the manufacturing industry and we are committed to reviving it. However, education is essential to the sustainability of this industry. Accordingly, with partners in the business community, we will be establishing a network of Regional Technical Colleges which will help our people get the skills they need to find employment. These institutions will be deeply embedded with corporations and as such provide an opportunity to go directly from study into work. This is essential for a brighter tomorrow in the hills of Keverai.

Secondly, communities in rural Keverai deserve the aid that they need to become productive and connected towns, cities and ultimately networks of Keveraites. As such, there is a need to increase investment in the social security system. I am launching an inquiry today to investigate where we can get these funds without lifting taxes on hard-working Keveraite families, employees and businesses. As an initial measure, we will be implementing mandatory superannuation for people earning above $60,000 IAD. This will be levied at 4.5%, with the option for employers to increase this amount or for employees to place additional funds into these nest eggs. The aim of this is to ensure happy and healthy elderly Keveraites into the future but also ensure we can defend ourselves economically as we open ourselves up to global markets even more.

Both of these measures rely on an effective industrial relations system. As such, I am immediately calling for an inquiry into how we can increase the efficiency and sustainability of an area which is vital to a better tomorrow.”

Renaut then opened the floor to questions from those present which resulted in him confirming and revealing a number of related priorities and tasks for his administration. He stated that they are actively in discussions with the Aizconan, Balniki and Aprosian Governments as to how to build the new technical college system and incentivise their businesses to participate in it. However, he stressed his willingness to negotiate and talk to "numerous and various partners across the Isles and prospective partners too".

In an unrelated part of the conference, Renaut announced that there will be a state visit between his government and that of Belantica. He admitted the details are not finalised but that the visit is slated for “early June”.

Renaut, IPNO open full 225km coastal track
Yeneau, Keverai
13 May 2021

Late yesterday afternoon, President Renaut announced that the Keverai Coastal Track, a 225km network of walking tracks with their focal point being the quaint yet dramatic shorelines of the nation, has been completed. The network, which was announced in December 2019, has been completed a month ahead of schedule and was done so with the support of the International Parks and Nature Organisation, a major environmentalist group.

At a press conference at Yeneau, near the border with the United Partitions, Renaut emphatically spoke of the achievements and the efforts of all the workers, congratulating them on getting the work done and ‘done well, and yet still a month ahead of schedule’. He was also joined by Keverai Parks Agency chief Teren Garalien and the Coordiantor of the Argus Wing of IPNO, Kobi Tilong. All three cut the ribbon at the northern trackhead of what has been described as a ‘complex and enticing’ offering to nature lovers all across the Isles.

After short speeches from the three officials, Renaut was asked by reporters whether he had taken any of the trails and if he was organising a trek of the entire length of the network to which he replied:

“I didn’t grow up walking through nature, obviously since I lived in Kevara for much of my upbringing. However, I had the pleasure of walking the first ten kilometres from the capital out along the cliff faces with my family a few months ago. If you are not particularly much of a walker, I’d nevertheless highly recommend that part.

As for the suggestion that I may be organising a trek, I have not yet thought of the idea but if I were, would you be interested in coming? After all, with all these personal questions it seems like I may be building a rapport with the journalists who seem to be at my press conferences all the time!”

The reporters chuckled at this before one of them asked about whether any expansions were currently in mind for the network.

“We have been looking into some trails connecting up to the KCT [Keverai Coastal Track] to serve heritage purposes such as commemorating Imperial War One. However, I’d like to take this opportunity to pose a challenge - firstly to First Partitioner Brogga of the United Partitions. I’m standing here at Yeneau, some fifteen kilometres from the border. Build to your border with us and we’ll do the remaining amount. And to the Aizconan Government - the same. Build to the border and we’ll meet you there. Let’s get a Central Argus track system going.”

Local businesses along the trail are already seeing an increase in sales as a result of domestic tourists enjoying a meal or the local souvenirs after their journey. Tara Macard, the owner of the Blue Wren Cafe in Dardin - ten kilometres east of Kevara - has already been enjoying the increased patronage.

“On the weekends, particularly late in the day, we didn’t use to have many people here. We’ve actually extended our opening hours now so that those coming from Kevara can enjoy a drink or a snack before heading on the train back home. It has been really good to see people getting outside and then coming to smaller communities like ours. It really livens the place up and gives us all a boost.”

President Renaut must be hoping that this boost goes across the entire nation, to varying levels to help with developing the regions more.

Presidential State Opening of Parliament

The President of the Republic of Biaten, Petrus Breitbarth, will now officially open the 52nd Parliament in a joint session of the National Diet and Senate, with the Chancellor and Cabinet sitting on the frontbenches. Seated behind the President is the Speaker of the National Diet Kenneth Marlow and acting President of the Senate and Minister of Foreign Affairs Carter Eldridge.

The president is applauded

“Mr President of the Senate, Mr Speaker, Members of the Senate and the National Diet. I thank you all for your warm greeting this afternoon. Before I start, I would like to congratulate every new Senator for their election, as well as every incumbent Senator for their re-election.

Last Thursday, every citizen of our Republic exercised their democratic right to vote in a fair and free election of the Senate. This right is one of the things that makes me proud to not only be a Biatenian, but to lead the Biatenian Republic.

Some see this election as divisive, with the election returning a Senate with no overall control. But I see this as an opportunity for both the government and opposition to work more closely together to work in the interests of the entirety of our nation and not just a half of it. I would like to wish the Chancellor good luck moving forward. I understand that not having a majority can make a government’s job harder, I have been in your position before. Parliamentarians laugh

I would like to join Parliament in thanking outgoing Senate President and a long-time friend of mine, Minister Eldridge, for Presiding over our nation’s First Senate and ensuring constructive political discussion in the Senate. The Senate President and I first met when he was elected as an MP 17 years ago. We have both risen in the world since then.

This Senate that was elected has the opportunity to be as good as or better than the previous Senate through cooperation. Putting our differences aside, everyone, or almost everyone here, will agree with me that we must never return to the evils of laissez-faire capitalism or far-right politics.

Parliamentarians from all of the largest parties applauded the President in almost unanimous support

The people of this nation are eager to put divisive and damaging ideas behind us and get on with the quest for new greatness. This Parliament must seek to create a better tomorrow for our people by whatever means possible. This Parliament must aim to help the government create better industry for our labourers, provide public services that are always there when our citizens need them the most, provide a healthcare system which ensures that we have the healthiest people in the world, provide better education for our children, better equip scientists and engineers in the pursuit of knowledge and in the creation of better and environmentally-sustainable technology, and provide a military that can protect us from any external threats should any arise. Through achieving these goals we will create a utopia for future generations to inherit.

One thing that has always concerned me is that our nation’s incarceration rate is too high. Almost 20,000 people, a little under, 1% of our population, are currently in prison, many for nonviolent crimes that do not make them a threat to society. That is why I will be instructing this government to identify harmless convicts who have the potential to contribute to our society and I will, through executive order, have them released.

Since I became Chancellor 25 years ago, I have put equality and social justice at the forefront of my government’s policies in order to create an inclusive society. I am glad to see that my successor, Chancellor Siegel, has continued to preserve this kind of equality throughout his premiership.

But progress should not end with us. It will continue indefinitely, through this Parliament and its successors. It will continue through our people until the end of time.”
