Palmyrion wrote:"Sounds like a plan to me." Johann replied. "Well, if you need someone with knowledge of blacksmithing, you have me. Been taught by my father from a young age before he died and turned over the hammer and anvil to me." he added.

Johann also thought of what they could bring in the Aherrad plains with them as food. "Speaking of making it out there, we could maybe get some food for the journey. How about it?"

Kaye shrugged, nodding.

"I'm no novice to the trade, but an extra set of hands is always welcome, not to mention another set of eyes."

Hearing the second question, she glanced down at the full basket of fruit in her other hand, lifting it up for Johann to see. The fruit inside was plenty fresh, clearly having been recently collected not long before the ship's arrival.

"Free basket of fruit from the shop, if you turn down their housing. Should be good for a week's rations, I reckon, more than enough to get to Aherrad and start digging."

"Aye I will go see him good merchant." He walked out and went to go see the man. His body was weighted by the want of exploration but the coppers in his name were no more but a chain around his foot. However this chain had a key that was income, income that he needed if he were to survive the first week and be able to hunt on his own like everyone else is doing. He only took a few steps and took a right to see the foreman and waved him down.

"Hail Foreman, I was told you need some extra hands for the mines? I'm willing to work if you would have me."

The foreman grinned a toothy grin, and nodded.

"Aye, laddy - ye'll make a noble and four knaves a day, twelve hour shift in the mine. Ye just dump whatever silver ye mine in the big ol' buckets up there, then walk back when the shift's over. Walk's an hour thataway, and the folks on duty'll take care of ye."

Cyrus would dismount from the most recent ship of colonists and settlers brought to the frontier, the would-be adventurer smiling happily despite the poor and packed conditions of the ship. This was a new land, a new life! The sprawling lands remained unsearched and unexploited, though such things would change in time, there was still great opportunity. He had many plans, the land fertile and fresh to be lived off of without a farm. Unfortunately, his travels have consumed most of his wealth, his meager knaves barely enough for his purposes. Today he would spend gathering resources from the nearby lands, the would-be explorer needing a proper bow to hunt his own food on the frontier. He would spend his time scouring the nearby lands, though tame for the most part there could still be small unknowns beyond the town palisade.

The copper-skinned woodsman was quick to locate a patch of smaller trees, selecting from among the fell branches and limbs removable with his own. He was searching for a young limb, something which could be used as a frame for his primitive creation. The river grasses would be similarly useful, their sticky sappy bulbs being perfect to create a proper fibers for working into a string. From dawn to dusk the man would be gathering his simple materials, keeping them in a free hand as he settles down for the night in town to begin his constructions, which would likely take the entire next day.

Plan for the day:
Action: Agree to be with the Explorer's Guild
5:00-11:00 Gather 2 Bundles of Branches from nearby
11:00-7:00 Gather 8 Bundles of Long Grass from nearby
Create 2 Fibers from 8 Bundles of Long Grass
7:00-9:00 2 Hours into making Self Bow

Alfred "Ruddy" Rednbocker

"Thank you good foreman" Alfred said with a nod and began his walk.

It seemed that he was leaving the ramshackle settlement and the entirely of nature hit him like a breath of fresh air. He could only take so much air through his lungs as the hole between his chest and back. A remembering of his time in His Imperial Majesty's service and that the gods are merciful to those who are faithful. After an hour of walking he could see the silver mine and the people that were working and bringing out the silver. He knew it was an honest days work and believed that an honest days work would give him enough to save up for that copper spear.

He went to the most senior looking worker and spoke up.

"Hail good worker. The foreman told me to come find work and lodgings."

"Hail. Lodgings are back in town, so is the mess hall, but as for work, just grab a pick from the wall and start digging. You turn in your lot at the end of your shift, and we'll pay you your wage. Easy as that."

The man turned and looked down to the shallow pit, raising his voice.

"Alright, keep moving, you lot! We won't be paying you to stand there and chatter, that's for sure!"

The former solider went down in the ladder and did just that. Greeted a few of the miners as he grabbed a pick from the wall and a random vein and just started digging.

Emma

Handing over a copper noble, she happily took two baskets and her change. "Yes- I do appreciate your hospitality sir, but I must not let myself grow too complacent, see. I'll be sure to check in soon, however. If not well... I suppose I have gotten myself killed haven't I?" She says this with a strange kind of chuckle, as if not taking such an idea very seriously. "Ah yes well, thank you sir! By the by -"

She cut herself short as the sea of newfound people came in. Waiting, she looked around to see the crowd of busy people, haggling over what to buy and when. She hoped her request wasn't drowned out in the sea of activity. She seized on a brief moment of silence to shout out: "By the by - I don't suppose you have any ink and parchment laying around, do you? Perhaps a little journal you've neglected? I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a little coin."

She anxiously looked over the commotion. She wasn't a big fan of crowd and busy shops, much preferring to leave that to the merchants. She wanted to be out of the place as soon as she could, wherever that would lead her, with someone or alone.

Action: attempt to purchase a journal. (Still dawn?)

He rummaged beneath the counter as the bidding war continued, but quickly popped up and shook his head.

"No dice, I'm afraid, lass - only pre-filled Company contracts and paperwork. I can put in an order for you though if ya like?"

Ultar's eyes and ears kept flicking over to the bidding, but Emma had his attention for the moment.

Pierre watched the bidding war idly, before turning to Ruth.

"Well, dear, ah'll be on the move. Don't have all day to watch these two argue it out. I figure that once...did you catch his name? Regardless, once our woodcutter friend gets the axe, let him know to get to work on five trees. Ah'll be out making nets most of the day. Ah'll provide the fibers, he'll provide the logs, you'll provide..."

He squinted at Ruth, looking her over.

"You said you were lookin' for indigo? Perhaps you'll prove your worth once we get down the river. Mind meetin' up with me in a couple hours? Ah'll provide the fiber, you can weave a net, and ah'll get back to work. Could save us some time down the road. My goal is to have three traps completed before we leave, so nine nets...probably bringin' in about 9 fish a day. That'll provide enough food for you, myself, and the woodsman every day."

Proposed actions:

PIERRE:
0:15 to 6:15 - Gathering Long Grass with Scythe. 12 Long Grass gathered. 12 Long Grass converted to 3 Fiber.
6:15 to 12:15 - Gathering Long Grass with Scythe. 12 Long Grass gathered. 12 Long Grass converted to 3 Fiber.
12:15 to 16:15 - Gathering Long Grass with Scythe. 8 Long Grass gathered. 8 Long Grass converted to 2 Fiber.
16:15 to 24:00 - Sleep in the Colonists Stockade.

RUTH:
0:15 to 6:15 - as she pleases
6:15 to 12:15 - Weaving Fishing Net
12:15 onwards - as she pleases

Day 1
Farholme
Nakhu Olziyt

"Finally, off the accused boat," Nakhu exclaimed as he left the ship. Turns out Nakhu is not suited for sea life as he had sea sickness for most of the trip. It a bad experience to go through but, he is finally here in the New World. Nakhu walked a bit between getting a good look of Farholme. Just like he was told, Farholme is a small outpost on the continent that boasts a silver mine which was the reason the outpost of made in the first place. The mere stepping stone for anyone like himself seeking new lands and perhaps land in this unknown land.

Nakhu did not plan on staying in Farholme long. He already had a plan on traveling to the Aherrad Plains and settling down there. From what he could learn while traveling to the New World. The land has good potential for settlements and has some iron in it. Maybe he can get a farm going or start an iron mine. Either way, Nakhu plans on building a place for themselves there and was eager to begin.

As he was looking through the store to see what was left since he was busy surveying the outpost. Nakhu could not but overheard a conversation about two people heading towards the Plains. He turned to face the two and could not help to smile. Nakhu had planned on settling by himself but with the help of others. Things could go easier for him in the long run. That and it could not help to get a good relationship going with his fellow colonists. So Nakhu walked up to the two, "Hey, I heard you two were heading to the Aherrad Plains. I plan on heading there myself, and mind if I tag along?"

She looked over at the newcomer, setting down her basket of fruit to extend a hand.

"Name's Kaye," she said, clasping his hand firmly. "I'd be a fool to turn such an offer down - many hands make light work, and all that."

Alfred "Ruddy" Rednbocker

As the midday sun when the job was done. Handed the one copper noble and four knaves had already made his heart jump for joy. He was close to a silver and needed a couple more nobles before he could get that spear. The very need of trying to work his heart to get to the wilderness is something he wanted to do ever since he heard of the New World. All he needs was patience and patience was part of the Faith. As he went back into town he doesn't see any of the crew but he followed the miners to the mess hall. After signing his name and agreeing to the Explorer Guild's deal then he got his food for the day until next week. After that he got a key for his room and went in.

It was much smaller than the ones back home. It was to be expected that it looked like a musty, ramshackle version of a room for a worker. It had a bed with some blankets that had holes in it. A musty bed, table with a chair. A single thatch window poured moonlight through the room. He decided to try and do his own crafting at going for a flint spear. It was primitive, very primitive but things were poor around Farholme. He went to go find a branch, some rocks, and some fiber to craft it. He can find two out of three then he can get the other one after work tomorrow.

Finished up working in the mines
+1 Copper Noble, +4 Copper Knaves
Went to go sign up with the Exploration Guild's offer
+ 1 free week of food
Went to go find some fiber and a branch
Sleep
End of Day 1

6 Copper Nobles, 4 Copper Knaves
1 fiber
1 branch

Copper wasn't exactly the type of hammer Anas was asking for, but he assumed it was better than nothing. And drops two copper nobles onto the counter, he turns his attention to the auction
"What are they bidding for?"

"Well! Looks like we have an auction here. Starting price is 3 copper nobles, with favor going to the young lady over here who arrived slightly earlier. Any better offers?"

Mercer let out another spot of laughter, turning his grin toward his erstwhile competitor. He stood, tapping his clean-filed nails on the counter.

"Hie there, then - if ye're a merchant, perhaps I can make ye a trade! Five knaves to you if I can buy the axe fer three nobles. If not, I'll bid three nobles and eight knaves. "

Serena was almost outbided if this is continued. And she would really need this axe as a stopgap to hunt, or to hack trees, whenever it's possible.

As Pierre turned to leave to begin the day's work, he heard the woman bidding on the axe call out an absurd raise.

The Knockout Gun Gals wrote:"I'll bid for three nobles and nine knaves. I believed it is accounted for more, on my side."

Three nobles and nine knaves. Almost four days work of wages, for a single copper axe. It was highway robbery - straight theft. But they needed that axe for their raft, if they were planning to head out of town and down the river safely. Pierre thought for a few moments, before cursing, turning and stomping back towards the stand. Withdrawing his remaining noble and six knaves, he slammed them on the table with a surprising amount of anger.

"Well, ah raise to five nobles and four knaves on behalf of the woodsman." he said through clenched teeth, seething slightly. The Guild would pay for a week's food and lodging, and by the end of that time he'd be able to feed himself just fine. Wouldn't have too much use for his starting coin after that. And if he wanted those five logs any other way than through the woodsman, it'd cost him much more than a noble and six knaves.

Anas Realizes what they are bidding for, a axe is a extremely important tool for building shelters, hunting, and can probably be used as a makeshift hammer. He picks up his two nobles, and shouts

"I'll bid six nobles and three knaves!"

At this final, obscene, absurd offer, Pierre snatched his remaining coppers off the desk.

"Have your god-damned axe." he snarled, before spitting at the foolhardy stranger. Six nobles for an axe. A week's wages. This fool was going to go into the new world broke for a single axe. As much as he wanted the axe for the timbers to make the raft, this wasn't worth it. He fumed, a vein in his neck throbbing visibly, an old remnant of a well-cultivated temper.

Back in the privateers, he'd just - he'd - it'd be so easy to just swing at this rich idiot's face and -

Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath, clenching his knuckles tight and walking away. It wasn't worth it. He was a new man with a new life. Fortune wouldn't toss him an opportunity such as this again. Couldn't fall back to old habits. Limping back to Ruth, he shook his head.

"Ah'm afraid we'll have to find another way to make our raft. Ah saw another man take the second axe. Perhaps we can buy the necessary timbers from him." he said reluctantly, slightly embarrassed about the outburst. It was an understandable thing to be upset about, but...still.

Mercer tapped his foot and snorted at the slightly obscene bid that had beaten him to his axe. His eyes narrowed, sharp, for a moment, before he let out another gentle peal of laughter. He turned to Pierre with a smile and a commiserative clap on the shoulder.

"Yer kind to've added to my bid, mate - glad to see us fisherfolk making good company on t' other side of the salt too. No chance of a usual raft, but there's many ways o' travellin' downstream. Might be able to garner ourselves a bark canoe or the like - I'd say swim, but ma'am seems of a sort above such an endeavour, and goats aren't famed for floating."

His grin resumed, and he set four nobles on the counter to acquire a hoe while the buying of those was still fair at hand. The soil at the delta was fertile, and something to dig for roots would at least be of some use - left him a noble to keep starvation off too, if it came to it.

"Just the mattock there Ultar - that hoe. Seems timberwork's fer a richer blood than the mud in my old veins."

Another curling bit of laughter - the annoyance of the lost axe forgotten in a moment. He'd waited a long time for the new world, and he'd no intention of spoiling it for himself. With it safe in hand, as well as his fruit, the lithe marshlander made his way across to Ruth and Pierre.

"Eager folk in these parts - sirrin' good spirit if nout else! I'll have to have a see if the bark o' trees round hereabouts is fit for a canoe. Even if not, it's only a matter of days of walking - being quite happy myself to go back and forth to save the trouble of you decent folk"

"I'm out. I'd better find things around on the ground rather than spending too much for one single axe," said by Serena. She definitely bailed out on this one. She learned that buying from a store with limited supply is both a hard and frustrating task. Maybe, perhaps, if she tried to construct a flint spear or fishing spear, it would be more useful.

Back in the stockade, she's preparing to head out to Three Rivers, trying to find branches and flint to make flint spears. Oh, and probably something to hold the two things together.

Ultar's eyes gleamed with the final result of the auction, and a hearty laugh at the curses of Pierre.

"Sold, my friend! Six copper nobles and three knaves it is. And a fine axe you've bought yourself indeed!"

Passing it to Anas and retrieving the hefty bounty in return, Ultar quickly busied himself fulfilling the rest of the orders from the disappointed competitors - though their wallets were certainly the happier for it.

One of the two he approached was a towering woman, standing almost a foot above the both the other man and Nakhu himself, her pale skin, golden blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes instantly revealing her Skeldi descent - the isles of the North produced strong stock indeed. She looked over at the newcomer, setting down her basket of fruit to extend a hand.

"Name's Kaye," she said, clasping his hand firmly. "I'd be a fool to turn such an offer down - many hands make light work, and all that."

Johann noticed the newcomer approaching them as he was just about to go and approach Ultar to get his basket of food for the journey to the Aherrad Plains. The man, from the looks of him, looked like he came from the Empire's eastern reaches; while he didn't see many Imperial orientals during his youth, he had seen enough of them to figure out the facial feature of the average Imperial citizen from the area (and it wasn't like they never stood out from the rest of the imperial populace anyways), an observation he took from observing his father doing business with the occasional orientals who bought the tools and weapons he produced.

"My name's Johann. Johan Schmidt." Johann introduced himself to Nakhu as he held out his right hand for a handshake, the hefty copper hammer held firmly in his left.

Even if not, it's only a matter of days of walking - being quite happy myself to go back and forth to save the trouble of you decent folk."

Though he was still irked over the whole axe debacle, Mercer's shoulder clap had sent Pierre's temper back to whence it came for the most part, and he was pleased when the fellow made his way over to the two.

"Ah, hell. You don't need to go to all that trouble. Although if you were planning on doin' that anyways, I'd be happy to pay for such a ride." replied Pierre, waving his hand. "Ah mostly wanted the raft to support travels up and down the river, to bring goods back from the Lower Eras Vale. Figured we'd look for indigo, and I'm sure fishin' would be quite good there. But ah'll - we'll, if the little lady is so inclined," he said, looking back at Ruth, "make do. So you're planning on making your way down to the coast, eh? What is a fine fellow like yourself lookin' for? And what's your name? Don't think I caught it back there."

Anas heads out, searching and gathering tall grass, occasionally trying to use his axe in a attempt to cut off the grass from it's roots or using the axe as a shovel. But also, he has to resort to using his hands to gather the tall grass, and then twisting them into bundles of fiber. But the real work came when he was trying to chop a tree down for timber, barely making any progress before he gave up, returned to the block house. And took the offer for free shelter and food.

Work-
Eight hours gathering 8 bushels of tall grass, converting them into two bundles of fiber
Four hours of trying to tell a tree

Rest-
Eight hours of sleeping in a stockade
Former Frozen commie hole somewhere in Antarctica. Now rebranded as an slightly less frozen and less commie hole somewhere in the South Atlantic, we out-navy the Russian Navy (This is less of a brag now. Isn't it?).

Nakhu reached for Kaye's hand and, as Kaye's companion, introduce and offered his hand. Nakhu reached out and clasped both hands with his firmly. "I am Nakhu Olziyt, he said to the both of them and with an accent. Looking at Kaye first, then Johann. Noting that Kaye's handshake was as firm as his, unlike Johann's. Not that he is judging them for that, just an observation. "Then it is agreed, and it is nice to meet the two of you." It would not be the first time, Nakhu worked with imperial westerners before. Back when a mining company showed up near his homeland looking for minerals. It was a good exchange, and surely he can work well with these two.

As he was about to suggest heading out, Nakhu remembered that he had yet to buy anything from the store or get his basket of food. Taking a looking at Kaye's pickaxe and Johann's hammer. He got to thinking about what he should buy before heading out. Turning his head to the store and then back at the two. If anything of use to him is still left, that is. With an unsure expression on his face, "So since you got a pickaxe and you got a hammer. What should I get from the store? Do you two know what is left"?
