Handball World Cup 23 Signup Thread

Hey guys, it's been around 9 months since we had the last Handball World Cup, so figured it could be time to start it up again for another edition.

As you can figure out, this is the official signup thread for the 23rd Handball World Cup. Post here to sign up for the tournament and also to bid to become host. Host bids must include form of scorination, format, and RP grading/bonus; everything else is not necessary, but highly encouraged.

Consider this an expression of interest thread as well; if you want this tournament to run, express your interest/sign up here.

In terms of time-frames for the tournament, it'll be up to the host as to when they score. However, I figured the HWC could be something good to parallel WCQs or the finals + CoH as an alternative to football RPing. Of course, share what you think about that in the thread!

Also, did we have ranks? (I think we did, but don't know where they would be )

Græntfjall Host Bid

Format

Given uncertain signup numbers deliberately vague, but the basics will be consistent with the previous edition, as well as with past (though not the most recent) RL handball world championships (i.e. no second group stage):

• single round robin group stage, with all games being played in Græntfjall;
• top 8 qualify for quarterfinals; if the field expands significantly beyond the current 18 signups, this will be expanded to top 16 qualifying for octofinals;
• tiebreakers will be based on RL IHF ones: points, H2H results, H2H goal difference, H2H goals scored, goal difference, goals scored, IC coin flip [OOC: scorinated by replay]; because handball for xkoranate does not include style modifiers, goals scored can be used as a tiebreaker;
• single elimination brackets with 3PPOs will determine rankings.

Scorination

The vanilla handball file for xkoranate will be used. Ranks will be used but only from HWC22. The tournaments prior to that took place in 2018. Keeping the HWC22 ranking preserves some incentive for continued participation while keeping the gaps more manageable. This is not meant to set any particular precedent either way.

Roleplay

There will be a daily RP bonus available, and a roster bonus worth probably 2 MDs worth. Given the discussion on ranks, I would aim for RP bonus to scale well to ranks; given the likely overlap with the soccerball WC, it will be generously applied. Information about the host nation and the stadiums involved will be provided similar to how I've run tournaments in the past. A small voluntary prompt or bit of national information may be posted at cutoffs for inspiration.

WC overlap

I see no way this won't overlap the slightly bigger WC. Oh well. I'd rather just run it alongside and be done with it than wait weeks for that tournament to be over. If it means some MDs people prioritize the other competition for RPing, that's perfectly understandable.

Experience

I'm convinced I've hosted a handball event in the past but can find no evidence of this on the forums, so perhaps it was on Jolt. More recently and verifiably I've hosted events in basketball, ice hockey, and football.
