It is just a guess from what I see online from Conservative voters.

You need to be careful with that kind of thing and whether or not its actually reflective. A lot of Labour voters in 2019 online were convinced that Corbyn was gona brick Johnson in the face with some jam jars and waltz into 10 downing street.

Point taken. The hard left in America thought the same thing about Bernie Sanders.

Anyway, back to the poll question, are Northerns really thinking about succession, and if they do succeed, will Northern England be part of the UK, or a completely independent nation?

No they aren't. And I am immensely pissed with the OP for creating that poll.

Well, a better one will come soon enough. Maybe something for the council/London/Wales/Scotland/Hartlepool vote in a couple of weeks.

I deplore the widespread ignorance of the centrality of the Northumbrian question.

The poll exists just to show Northumbrian independence is stupid.
An actual sensible poll will exist Monday

Next conservative leader is a pointless prediction at the moment, it's likely a number of years until a contest is imminent so it's probably going to be somebody nobody has thought of at the moment.

That's how I see it. With the Tories poised to win Hartlepool in a couple of weeks, there's no one going against Johnson for a while.

A devolved Yorkshire Parliament is far more likely than an independent United North. Its absolutely stupid.

A devolved Yorkshire Parliament is far more likely than an independent United North. Its absolutely stupid.

I mean, if the idea was for the various counties to have their own devolved parliaments (but to remain part of the UK), with control over finances, for instance, (a devolved Cumbria, a devolved Northumberland, a devolved Yorkshire, a devolved Lancashire and devolved Lincolnshire)... that might be something that people would actually consider a realistic proposition.

The regions more than the counties, kind of like the failed Northeastern Parliament idea.

I think the break up of the UK would happen before any English devolution. If English devolution was on the agenda I would expect the old government office region system to be used rather than counties - North West, North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, South West, South East, and London.

Agreed. Although Cornwall may want their own assembly, which I can understand.
North West may want to split between Lancashire and Cumbria.

But this is why I support a federal UK nonetheless.

Agreed. Though, I think, if something as seismic as Scotland leaving the UK were to happen, that might make English devolution less likely, rather than more. I think -- if there were any strong moves towards independence from Scotland, we would see (at least with Boris Johnson) moves towards more centralisation rather than less.

I'm wondering if some of the £2.6 million for the Downing Street media briefing room, that they suddenly abandoned before using it, actually got used to decorate Boris's flat instead. Though he couldn't be that blatant surely?
