There's actually a similar situation, but with a different outcome.

A former girl (Now transman) swimmer was ranked at the top of the female swim team, absolutely crushing anyone he went up against.

Well, because he figured out he was trans, they petitioned the school to switch to the male team, which unlike how most stories like this go, he actually got accepted and was welcomed with open arms by the male team members. Yeah, immediately he sunk (Not a pun, I swear) to the bottom of the male ranking and didn't win a single match for the entire season.

What does this mean? The issue's complicated, there's no clear answer on how to handle this issue because the physically differences in sports do actually matter. Serena Williams, the best women's tennis play in the entire world said she could be any male player, got challenged by the #300th ranking male player, and didn't get a single point in their entire match. (She has since gone on up against more male players, and hasn't won a single game). Or what about the fact that the US Women's Soccer Team, the best female soccer team in the entire world (And who are way more popular than their male counterparts), gets their asses regularly kicked by the male HS soccer team down the street from their training center they train against every other week or so.

So no, this is like the bathroom issue. There are actual complications that are present and make it very difficult to put trans people on one team or the other. (Sports aren't really LGBT friendly, tbh) I personally think re-tryouts would be helpful, actually vet the incoming player to see if they meet the standards and regulations of their chosen side.
