Lë 60° Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë 2021
The 60th Kalosian Song Festival, 2021

1° Seratë | 2° Seratë | 3° Seratë | 4° Seratë

Established in 1962, the Kalosian Song Festival (FKK) is an annually run domestic song contest, and the most high profile of its kind in the Republic of Kalosia. The festival, which was inspired by Italy's Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo, is a highly anticipated show every year and reflects the quality of Kalosian music.

This year is a very special one as we are celebrating 6 decades of the successful running of FKK. This year's edition will take place over the course of 4 days, with 24 competing songs. The format is as follows:

1° Seratë (1st evening)
The first 12 acts perform their songs. 7 of them will qualify to the final, with voting decided by a combination of jury and televoting, although results are not announced this night.

2° Seratë (2nd evening)
The second 12 acts perform their songs. Again, 7 of them will qualify to the final, with voting decided by a combination of jury and televoting, and results are not announced.

3° Seratë (3rd evening)
This evening is a celebration of Kalosian music. All 24 acts each perform a cover of a Kalosian song, with their choices ranging from 50s classics to modern favourites. The best performance is determined by televoting, and the act presented with an award. Then, the 14 qualifiers are announced.

4° Seratë (4th evening)
The 14 qualifying acts perform their songs one more time. A winner is determined by a combination of jury and televoting.

translation: Same story
tune: Asaj — Kastro Zizo

The first song of this year's festival is Storia stesë by Luiž Rikardi. With a career spanning over 3 decades, it is no surprise that he is a veteran to the festival. This song is told from the perspective of someone who is tired of another person, possibly a partner, and their lies.
Dišël mi perki sej komë la lunë
Kë škompra kadë lë žornatë ariva
Dišël mi perki sorisu tiu
Në a vergoñë

Le lagrime vedu su visu tiu
Kë pensavo eranu diámandi
Veramentë sonu di plastiku
Ankorë es storia stesë

Tell me, why are you like the moon
That disappears when the day arrives
Tell me why your face
Has no shame

The tears I see on your face
That I thought were diamonds
Were actually of plastic
It’s the same story again

translation: Just like us
tune: Childhood — Peter Bič Project

Song two is Komë noš by Cafalonesque band GjardinRógj. They are making their FKK debut, but they have been established in the local music scene in Cafalon for a while now. They often sing in the regional language Cafalonesque, but tonight they will perform in Kalosian. In the song, GjardinRógj compares a romantic relationship to the elements of nature.
Ed or
Respira lë ventu
Sentu
Li arbeli susuranu paroli d’amurë

Komë noš

And now
The wind breathes
I hear
The trees whispering words of love

Just like us

Song 3 is Venël a mi. Like the previous act, Zara X is making her FKK debut. However, she is a nationally-known up-and-coming artist who has had some success in the past few years on the Kalosian music charts. This song is no different from her typical repertoire, and Zara sings about the longing she has for her partner.
Durantë keste lunge note
U soñi moji la staj solu ti
Tu mi manki, baby
Venël a mi, na na na
Venël a mi, oh oh oh

Kadë tu staj ki, oľu probleme moje
Lo es tiu superpower
Ed au besoñu solu di braši toji
Lašal mi la rëmanerë

During these long nights
It’s only you in my dreams
I miss you, baby
Come to me, na na na
Come to me, oh oh oh

When you’re here, I forget my problems
That’s your superpower
And I only need your arms
Let me stay there

translation: After the silence
tune: Noites — Diogo Piçarra

Next up is indie pop artist Lorenžu Bartolomiu with Apre lë silenžo! Lorenžu, who is also competing in FKK for the first time tonight, has become a household name in Kalosia's indie music scene. This song deals with a relationship that is falling apart, with the singer asking what is to come after the silence.
Ma or apre lë silenžo
Ki segiz la finë?
Mi aj lašatu solu
Ki u l’oskuritë

Ed apre lë silenžo
Ed apre lë silenžo

And after the silence
What follows the end?
You left me alone
Here in the dark

And after the silence
And after the silence

translation: Your mystery
tune: Xheloz — Elvana Gjata

Lejla Brahimi won Festival dëla Kanžu 16 years ago, in 2005, with the song Unë paginë novë. Tonight the veteran is singing Misteru tiu, in which Lejla ponders upon a budding romance, desiring her lover to reveal their mystery to her.
Unë notë per rëkordarë
Ov’z andarë da ki?
Dišël mi kele parole
Kë voľu sentirë:
“T’amu, t’amu, t’amu…”

Nël laša mi u l’oskurita
Ti segiru ala verita
Unë pašio kë susura a noš
Voľu saperë misteru tiu

A night to remember
Where to go from here?
Tell me those words
That I want to hear:
“I love you, I love you, I love you…”

Don’t leave me in the dark
I’ll follow you to the truth
A passion that whispers to us
I want to know your mystery

Image
translation: You
tune: Kutia e Pandorës — Valon Shehu

Song number 6 is the rock band Fatamorgana, which should be familiar with FKK viewers. The song, Tu, takes the form of a romantic confession in which the titular word is cleverly used to join together two lines, closing the sentence that precedes it while simultaneously starting the sentence that follows.
E toji oki, si, mi sedukonu
Unë rëgardë trova mi, es solu

Tu
Apari u tudi soñi moji
Komë un ǧojelu, së sej
Tu
Pošerestë anǧelë mia
Aj robatu koru miu
Sej tu

And your eyes, yes, they seduce me
A glance finds me, it’s only...

You
...appear in all my dreams
Like a jewel, it’s...
You
...could be my angel
You stole my heart
It’s you

Rafaél Tunisi is a familiar face to international song contest fans, having competed in the 31st and 44th World Hit Festivals. He is also known for his participation in Festival dele Melodie Kalosiane, which earned him the right to participate in those respective contests. However, this will be his first time participating in the more prestigious FKK, with a song that compares navigating romance to reading a book.
Rësposte toje mi invitanu, oh
Kestë amurë es un misteru
Lo es stranerë
Sta uv oki toji

Recto, verso
Legu toje pagine
Penšu di toje parole

Recto, verso
Kë dišez tia mentë?
Donë, ťi sëz tu?

Your answers invite me, oh
This love is a mystery
It’s foreign
It’s in your eyes

Recto, verso
I read your pages
I think of your words

Recto, verso
What does your mind say?
Woman, who are you really?

Image
translation: A woman with courage
tune: Senza appartenere — Nina Zilli

Rakel Ehtefanes, who comes from Palmañë, had previously established a career in voice acting, including dubbing foreign children's movies (and the songs within them) into Kalosian. Of course, her vocal talent does not stop there, and she has entered the music industry as well. Here, she is making her FKK debut with a song about women's empowerment.
Senzë un dubiu
Ja voľu a soñarë
Ja voľu ad andarë

Ad un postu ove sta
Un kaminu dëla vitë per mi
Unë donë kon koražu

Dišel mi, kele plante kë rigevi?
Dišel mi, kele verite kë diťevi?
Ariva un altru žornu
Ariva un altru mondu

Without a doubt
I want to dream
I want to go

To a place where there is
A path of life for me
A woman with courage

Tell me, which plants have you watered?
Tell me, which truths have you told?
Another day has arrived
Another world has arrived

This will be Elisë Fernandi's second time at FKK, having previously competed a few years ago. Her entry can be interpreted as the first "COVID song" of this year's selection, i.e. a song whose lyrics reference the pandemic or its effects. Oñë orë lyrically discusses boredom and time that passes, drawing comparisons to quarantine and the act of staying home during the pandemic.
Es l’orë dwe
Ankorë sto kosi
Un altru martidiés sul devanu

Ma san un arbelu kë resta
Kadë lë mondu interu avanti va
Ja ťerku pëla kalmë kë sta ula kazë
Ed oñë orë pasa lë stesu

Nanana, nanana, nanana
Nanana nana nana, nanana…

It’s two o’clock
I’m still like this
Another Thursday on the couch

But I am a tree that stays
When the whole world moves on
I look for the calm that exists at home
And every hour passes all the same

Nanana, nanana, nanana
Nanana nana nana, nanana…

translation: Light will always remain
tune: Musica (e il resto scompare) — Elettra Lamborghini

The daughter of Kalosian singer and FKK 1982 winner Robiarto Siara, Valencina Siara is one of Kalosia's biggest singers of the past several years. Her music dominated Kalosian charts towards the end of the past decade, and due to her popularity she is often wanted by song contest fans to represent Kalosia internationally, although many others have seen her as being too popular for such shows. She is based in Palmañë and is making her debut at the festival, although with a much bigger following than some of the show's other debutants. Her song is a feel-good tune meant to inspire and motivate listeners.
Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera

U l’oskurita, rëkordal kë tu sej belë
Oñu žornu es una oportunita
Per trovarë lë novu amurë kë speta
Un amurë kë ti portara la verita

Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera
Semprë la luž rëmanera

The light will always remain
The light will always remain
The light will always remain
The light will always remain

In the darkness, remember that you’re beautiful
Every day is an opportunity
To find the new love that awaits
A love that will bring you the truth

The light will always remain
The light will always remain
The light will always remain
The light will always remain

Nadia Martelli is a folk singer. She has participated a couple of times before, and has a unique style that has made her an iconic character in the Kalosian music scene. Her song, Letere dëlë ventu, is a very passionate, dramatic folk ballad in which Nadia sings about the arduous longing she has for her partner.
Eserë kelkunë kë torna
Ala sikurežë di tia ombrë
E segonu digti moji

Lë senťeru kë aj lašatu
Lë senťeru kë aj lašatu

La vož kë kiáma da ultra
Porta mi a toji labri
Porta mi a toji labri

To be someone who returns
To the safety of your shadow
And my fingers follow

The trail that you left behind
The trail that you left behind

The voice that calls from beyond
Brings me to your lips
Brings me to your lips

Image
translation: Borrow my heart
tune: Out on Love — The Brahms

The last act of the night is the band Lësusetë. Although they are making their FKK debut, they have been known for winning Festival dele Melodie Kalosiane and subsequently representing Kalosia at the 50th World Hit Festival. For those unfamiliar, their name is a phonetic Kalosian spelling of the France Gall song Les succettes. Tonight they are performing Imprutel koru miu, which compares the singer's love interest to a thief, asking her to borrow the singer's heart instead of stealing it.
Aj prenduto molti baši di mi
E se domanesë, ja diventere tiu

Imprutel koru miu
Perše ti lo dare
Nël robi koru miu
Nël së unë latrë

You took so many kisses from me
And if you asked, I would become yours

Borrow my heart
Because I’d give it to you
Don’t steal my heart
Don’t be a thief

Voting deadline is sometime on 15 March, possibly shortly after WorldVision host voting begins. Still, it's better to get those votes in sooner rather than later!

translation: I live to sing
tune: Mi sento bene — Arisa

The first song of the night is "Vivu per kantarë", by WorldVision veteran Jasmin Ošman (aka Yasmin). She came 2nd at the 60th WorldVision Song Contest and returned in the 74th edition. She has participated in Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë a couple of times as well, including as recently as last year, where she came 5th in the final.

This song is told from the perspective of Yasmin singing to her younger self, revealing that she will grow up to find that her purpose in life is to sing, and that she should never give up on herself.
Vamu a soñarë
Në prëókupal tu dëlë futuro
Anki se doman kadi
N’oľal la ragažë kë tu sej

Uv oñë respiro, vivu për kantarë
Pëla žentë o solu mi, vivu për kantarë
Ed aj lašatë dëla vergoñë
K’a konsumatë mi u mia porë
U mia vitë, kantu për soñarë

Let’s dream
Don’t worry about the future
Even if you fall tomorrow
Don’t forget the girl you are

In every breath, I live to sing
For the people or just me, I live to sing
And I’ve forgotten of the shame
That consumed me in my fear
In this life, I sing to dream

Image
translation: Father
tune: Kino — Antytila

The second song is "Padrë" by Mikel Brašini. The song can either be interpreted as a prayer to God or a message to the singer's father, calling out for help when faced with difficult times.
Lë dolor mi danu dežavú
Di oñu momentu
Kë au imploàtu
Për ajut

Papa, dalmi tia sagežë
Gwaril mia tristežë
Dišël mi: perkiz, perkiz, perkiz, perkiz?

The pain gives me déjà-vu
Of each moment
Where I begged
For help

Father, give me your wisdom
Heal my sadness
Tell me: why, why, why, why?

tune: Ajër — Sara Bajraktari

Song 3 is Altu by Martina Guerra. The song is a folk ballad that calls upon people to reach for the stars.
Aaah…
Li kori stanu batendu
Aaah…
Al ritmu di niu destinu

Altu
Insemë anderemu altu
Pošamu atenerë le stele
Altu, altu
Lë futuro saremu

Aaah…
Hearts are beating
Aaah…
To the pace of our destiny

High
Together we will go high
We can reach the stars
High, high
We will be the future

translation: Flying
tune: Melodi — Aldo Bardhi

Next up is a very groovy song, "Volandu" by Bruno Baľarti. It's a typical club kind of song, with an abundance of disco. Your typical Saturday Night kind of fare.
Dišu: Ajajaja je, ajajaja hej
Dišël: Ajajaja je, ajajaja hej
Voľiz tu baľarë kon mi?

Sapiz tu kë kestë melodia
Da mi la foržë
Për atenerë tude le stele?

I say: A-ya-ya-ya yeah, a-ya-ya-ya hey
You’ll say: A-ya-ya-ya yeah, a-ya-ya-ya hey
Do you want to dance with me?

Do you know that this melody
Gives me the strength
To reach all the stars?

tune: Ringo Starr — Zlato

Zlato won the 78th WorldVision Song Contest in Malta Comino Gozo and to date is Kalosia's most recent WV winner. Here, the band sings "Rejali" a cocky song that is in reality an ironic critique of the attitudes of certain (privileged) people towards global affairs. In a contemporary 2020s context, this can touch upon those who believe they are invincible from the pandemic as well.
Uv un mondu di bon e di meľu san ja un rejal
Uv un mondu di bon e di meľu san ja un rejal
Uv un mondu di bon e di meľu san ja un rejal
Woah-woah-oh woah-woah-oh-oh

Kadonu li deboli ma san bravu
Perki moji ǧojeli pošonu komprarë mi foržë, oh
Kadë un ťita es dëstruto
Perki li efekti di ažioni moji (fuǧu)
Volu altrove perki meretu la vitë meľor
Komë au ja (orgoľu)

In a world of good and better, I’m a royal
In a world of good and better, I’m a royal
In a world of good and better, I’m a royal
Woah-woah-oh woah-woah-oh-oh

The weak fall but I am brave
Because my jewels can afford me strength, oh oh
When a city is destroyed
Because of the consequences of my actions (I escape)
I fly elsewhere because I deserve the best life
As if I have (pride)

Two WorldVision winners perform back to back — conversely to the above, Lucia Edin was Kalosia's first WV winner back in the 42nd edition. Here she performs another ballad, a very passionate one too. Sia prehiérë oltimë is about the prayers of a dying man who laments about the life he is leaving behind, expressing the regrets he has. Although the song doesn't explicitly mention the pandemic, the song does feel relevant in that context, and serves as a reminder that all life comes to an end.
Se avisë un momentu
Voľere lašarë
Tudi dubi moji
Per segirë moji soñi

Sta u l’oskurita
U dëfensë di luj
Në poševa moverë
Ultrë la vergoñë

If I had a moment
I would leave
All my doubts
To follow my dreams

He stands in the dark
In his defence
He couldn’t move
Above the shame

Valentinu Armandi, who came 3rd at last year's Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë, is back with a summer track. Sorisu is a much lighter song in comparison to his last entry, and has all the elements to set the stage for your next summer romance.
Se noš trovamu ki, prendël manu mia
Mi au trovato kon te, trovato la paž
Kadë vidu faťë tia, sentu la pašio
Venël, dalmi tia luž, voľu viverë kon ti

Tiu sori-sori-sorisu
Mi inkanta da la primë voltë kadë
Ti ja au enkontratu, amu
Tiu sorisu, tiu sorisu

If we find ourselves here, take my hand
I’ve found myself with you, I’ve found peace
When I see your face, I feel the passion
Come, give me your light, I want to live with you

Your smile
Pleases me since the first time when
I met you, I love
Your smile, your smile

translation: In this country
tune: Vallja e jetës — Kastro Zizo

Although Ǧuľo Baľarti failed to qualify from last year's competition, he has been around for decades and knows that he can just try again at the next contest. This is a rock song that indeed aligns with his genre, but has added folk influence as well which goes very well with the song and perhaps its themes.
U kestu paés
U kestu paés
U kestu paés
U kestu paés, paés, paés

Es lež! Ma kë esëz kañato?
N’importa pëli soñi dëla žentë, n’a besoñu
E poj, kë kosë sušede or?
Kadë la žentë në poše rëspirarë, në sta la paž

In this country
In this country
In this country
In this country, country, country

It’s law! But what is changed?
It doesn’t matter for the people’s dreams, it’s unneeded
And then, what’s happening now?
When people can’t breathe, there is no peace

Lidianë Marino previously represented Kalosia at the 34th World it Festival. Tonight, she will be performing Matinë rosë, a rather melancholic but dramatic ballad about a dying love.
Komë unë rožë u noji mani
Noj sangwinamu per sentirë ši
Amurë flestandu
E mi diši komë va

Ed or
Si pošu kašerë
Miu koru dali korvi

Like a rose in our hands
We bleed to feel each other
Wilting love
And you ask me how it’s going

And now
If I can hide
My heart from the ravens

tune: Il farmacista — Max Gazzè

Akwilë Blankë came 3rd at the 48th World Hit Festival and has since became a household name. Now here they are with Un altrë parolë, a song sung from the perspective of a singer trying to convince his suspecting lover that he is innocent, and that things are not as they seem.

Please believe me
(No, it’s true!)

You play detective even though I have nothing to hide
And you know it’s a misunderstanding
I showed you that the evidence is fake
But you don’t listen to me (what can I say?)

I know that you think what you hear
From my mouth is just another word

translation: My truth
tune: Stop This Flame — Celeste

Dafne Maržanu is back after last participating at the 2019 Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë. She also represented Kalosia at the 55th World Hit Festival in Brahmokerto, Fromulya. Her song tonight, Verita mia, is an anthem of empowerment.
Ovëz es storia tia? Dilo
Ovëz es animë tia? Dilo
Ovëz es speranzë tia? Dilo
(Dilo, dilo, dilo)

Kestë es veritë mia
Kë venta banderë mia
E san lë foku kë
Ilumina lë mondu interu

Where is your story? Tell it
Where is your soul? Tell it
Where is your hope? Tell it
(Tell it, tell it, tell it)

This is my truth
That flies my flag
And I’m the fire that
Illuminates the whole world

translation: I will never forget
tune: Finirà bene — Ermal Meta

The final act of the night and the last of the 24 acts to debut their song is Filipe Gardañu. His song, N'oľeru maj, manifests as a promise to his lover that he will never forget them no matter where life takes him.
N’oľeru, n’oľeru, n’oľeru (maj!)
(Maj!)
(Maj!)

N’oľeru maj d’oñu momentu au kon ti
N’oľeru maj lë koru kë aj datu mi
N’oľeru maj, perki sej mia prešozu tesoru
Sej mia prešozu tesoru

N’oľeru maj d’oñu momentu au kon ti
N’oľeru maj lë koru kë aj datu mi
N’oľeru maj, amikë, prometu n’oľeru maj

I won’t forget, I won’t forget, I won’t forget (never!)
(Never!)
(Never!)

I’ll never forget every moment I have with you
I’ll never forget the heart that you gave me
I’ll never forget because you are my precious jewel
You are my precious jewel

I’ll never forget every moment I have with you
I’ll never forget the heart that you gave me
I’ll never forget, my love, I promise I’ll never forget

Voting deadline is sometime on 3 May, possibly shortly after WorldVision host voting ends. Still, it's better to get those votes in sooner rather than later!

After a few interval acts have been performed, the recap is shown once again, and then voting is closed. The show comes to an end.

Thank you again for making it this far. Once voting closes, I will post the betting odds below this post and then we can continue with the third evening or 3° Seratë of this year's Kalosian Song Festival.
