Rewatching Where Silence Has Lease again tonight.

Even though I’ve already watched it multiple times before and know the plot, it is still somewhat unsettling. Nowhere near the creepiest thing I’ve seen, but enough to make me uneasy.

And they’re just now boarding the “Yamato”...

Edit: Dammit, I forgot about the ambient sounds.

We already have that.

Yes I'm entirely aware, but those are as little fragments, secondary elements to the main impetus of the series.

I just realized, but a lot of the Star Trek security heads seem anti-social in some way.

TNG -> Yar(?) and Worf

DS9 -> Odo

VOY -> Tuvok

ENT -> Reed

Not sure about TOS (haven't done a full watch-through), DIS, LD, or PIC (haven't watched a single episode).

I guess this would probably be an obvious thing to pick up on, but I only did recently.

---

In terms of movie musical tracks, I think First Contact and Beyond might be my favorites. Favorite warp effect would be the one in Beyond, only can be seen for like ten seconds in total but looks the best to me, visually looks like the warp we know from Berman Trek but with the addition of the warp bubble.

Just think about this recently, i really don't like the route they went wirh Eddington. It all makes sense in story, sure but it could have been better.

They had an opportunity to really explore how someone can be sympathetic to a questionable cause and throw their life away over an ardent belief that the cause not only just, but morally obligatory for them to support.

Instead they turned him into a dweeb living out his own hero fantasy and delusions of grandeur.

If there's anyone whose appearance on-screen could hope to help salvage the series now, its John de Lancie. That said, I hope he's a bit less fond of being an accessory to his own character assassination than Patrick Stewart. Hoping for the best, in any case, but if it's still the same production studio turning the handle it's still liable to come out the grinder the same derivative, hollow slop no matter who they push in.

Kinda love Janeway and Voyager in general so I might have to go against my better judgement and watch this show whenever it comes out the pipeline. Who knows? There might just be coffee in there.

Maybe it’s just my millennial attention span, but I found the story of Picard impossible to follow. It just seems to excitedly pinball from set piece to old character to Romulan techno-mysticism, to the point I just gave up towards the end and just tried to enjoy the spectacle. “Oh, we’re doing this now? k” was my most common thought.

And portraying the man himself as not a wise and learned diplomat, but a whiny moralist was assassination with with a Barret 50 cal.

Much as I'm usually down to put NHA in his place, he basically did admit that:

Q: Switching to Picard, what did you guys learn from the first season in terms of pulling off the show that you’re bringing into season two?

A: Figure out the end earlier. If you're going to do a serialized show, you have the whole story before you start shooting. It's more like a movie in that way — you better know the end of your third act before you start filming your first scene.

Implicit, that they had no idea where Picard was going to end when they started it, else that wouldn't be the lesson. :p

Not that any of us are shocked of course.

1. That implies most of ya'll actually have arguments worth anything to begin with. ;) (Which is still yet to happen)
2. Well yes, Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman were writing it and Alex and Akiva are notorious for not planning anything ahead of time. For example, Alex wrote the final episode of STP mere days before they started actually filming it.

They also wrote a script of STD 12 hours before they filmed the episode.

For reference, in normal tv production, an episode needs to be written weeks or even months before filming begins. An episode written even 2 weeks before it'll be filmed is considered absolutely ridiculous to most studios, producers, directors, etc... Maybe even a fireable offense.

Mmm no he didn't. He admitted they didn't know where the ending was gonna be. As a writer myself I can tell you that shit happens more often than not. You have a premise, a plot trajectory, etc. but the ending is still up in the air as you try to weave those plot threads into a satisfying conclusion. Not knowing how your work is gonna end precisely, is not the same as "Doesn't know what they're doing."

that bit is just more of NHA's nonsense about how much he hates nutrek.
