IRFANIC LIBERATION AND RESISTANCE FORCES SHOOT DOWN ESTMERISH WARPLANE
ILR surface-to-air missile successfully downs one of the invader's warplanes, scoring a major victory for all Hamada.
Sidi Amar, 10 December 2020

Stills of the video footage showing the downing of the invader's plane.

Forces of the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance have struck a blow against the Euclean invader, Estmere after one of their warplanes was shot down. Video footage and images show the warplane being struck with a missile before plummeting to the ground.

The warplane of the Estmerish Air Force was shot down by a surface to air missile as it bombed ILR forces west of Al-Qasr. The aircraft had dropped several bombs before it was struck by the missile which was launched by soldiers of the ILR. The aircraft according to video footage continued along its path burning, before it began to break apart and then dive into the ground. One pilot was seen to eject and parachute down as the plane began to break apart.

An ILR spokesman told Al-Muquwamma TV, “our brave forces have struck down a warplane of the invaders. Our missile blew apart the warplane, sending it crashing into our blessed soil. I can confirm that we have captured one pilot and have begun the process of interrogating him. This a day of celebration for all Hamada, for we have sent a message to the Euclean invaders, we can defend ourselves and we can swipe your precious planes from the skies.”

The ILR forces have seen increasing successes in defending innocents from the bloodthirsty warplanes of the puppet regime in Adunis. Two government warplanes were shot down last month, while a third was damaged and forced to return to base.

Sheik Faizan Salah, the head of the Supreme Committee for Governance and Resistance posted on social media, “we pray for God to strike from our skies, the warplanes that murder and butcher women and children and he has answered. His holy hand guided our missile and shattered a plane of the invaders. We pray he blessed us further and we also pray that our missiles find the black hearts of the invaders and their puppets where they least expect.”

The invaders and their puppets in Adunis have caused immense pain and loss to the innocents of Hamada. Only two days ago, the puppets in Adunis killed 24 civilians when they bombed a shoe factory. The SCGR has regularly promised to improve its capabilities in defending innocents and today, they honoured that promise.

The shootdown comes as ILR forces made great strides in Ain Yagout and Bedjene provinces, as the brave forces of Hamada advance to liberate the Ain Yagout oil fields and the great city of Qa’ah from the puppet regime. Desperate to parry the relentless force of the ILR, the puppet regime and the Euclean invaders turn ever more toward their cowardly air forces to bomb from the skies, with no regard for innocent life. But the increased air activity does not seem to have affected the ILR’s operations.

Last night, the ILR reported it had captured the town of Babishq from puppet forces. The town is located immediately west of Al-Qasr and opens the road for ILR forces to seize the Babishq Chemicals Factory and several smaller villages in the surrounding area.

The war is now entering a much dangerous phase after the Gaullican legislature passed a vote permitting the deployment of military forces to Tsabara. It came as a result of a request made by EDCTO, the alliance of former Euclean colonial powers. The SCGR has warned that “should any foreign soldier set foot within Tsabara or Hamada, in support of the puppet regime in Adunis, that soldier will not be distinguished from a soldier of the puppet regime.”

Supreme Commander of the ILR, General Muntasir Humadan was filmed visiting soldiers at an undisclosed location where he said, “be ready my sons because soon we may need to have Gaullica count its dead alongside their puppet. We are ready for them, if they wish to come here, we will be more than pleased to avenge the millions murdered at their hands during colonial times.”

How the Gaullican vote will effect the wider dynamic is not yet known, however, Zorasan’s parliament is to meet for an emergency session to discuss what it has called, a “gross escalation of the conflict.” The all-powerful Central Command Council is also expected to meet to discuss the Gaullican vote, importantly, the CCC has the final say on defence and foreign policy matters in Zorasan, and the body has long warned that Euclean forces in Tsabara would be seen as a serious “threat to the national security and stability of the Union and northern Coius.”

Kesselbourg City, Kesselbourg

Describing it as one of the most "historic pieces of international cooperation", Secretary-General Beruchashvili announced her reaffirmation of the Vidović Plan. In the coming weeks, the International Assembly is expected to vote on a resolution that would reaffirm its support for the Vidović Plan in its original form.

The Caldish delegation to the International Assembly is expected to introduce the resolution sometime within the next two weeks. It will call on the Tsabaran government to undo constitutional changes made by al'Tughluq and weaken the Tsabaran presidency. Should the resolution pass, it will be a major boost for the elected Tsabaran government, the 'Unity Coalition', which is facing insurrection from the newly declared Hamada state.

The Vidović Plan, named after Secretary-General Miloš Vidović, was the Community of Nations' plan put forward to assist the Tsabaran people create the Transtsabaran Federation in the wake of the dissolution of the 'Tsabaran Republic' in the early 1990s. Miloš Vidović's plan called for the creation of a 'cosocial state', that included:

  • A proportionally representative legislature.
  • State-level coalitions in multi-ethnic provinces.
  • Ethnic and religious reservations within the lower house and the judiciary.
  • A President, Vice-President and Premier who come from different ethnic or religious backgrounds.

The plan was historic for the direction invitation that the Secretary General issued towards both Meyer Kahlon and Atwan al'Tughluq. Kahlon was the last official leader of the Tsabaran Republic and Atwan al'Tughluq had arisen in the calamity of the dissolution of the Republic to be the premier voice for Irfanic and pan-Rahelian interests.

The various parties in Tsabara met under the auspices of the CN. Vidović facilitated these meetings and was an integral part of the process. The plan was accepted by Kahlon and al'Tughluq, and in turn shown to the rest of the nation. The Vidović Plan won the support of leaders in all of Tsabara's ethnic and religious groups. It was put before the Tsabaran people in a 1991 referendum. The proposal was supported by a majority of voters in each of Tsabara's communities. Kahlon ran for election as president, unopposed, becoming the country's first president -- as an independent candidate -- to be democratically elected under the new constitution in February of 1992.

After the referendum, the CN oversaw the plan's implementation. The Tsabaran Republic was restructured into the Transtsabaran Federation. The sectarian strife that marred the Republic came to an end as a result of CN involvement. As a result, the Vidović Plan won accolades for bringing peace to Tsabara.

However, al'Tughluq was able to cross ethnic divides and unite the different Irfanic groups in the country under his Movement for National Revival. This gave him influence over the system that was never anticipated, and by 2016 he was able to successfully establish the country as a presidential republic. This was met with much controversy and condemnation from the international community, including disapproval from Beruchashvili.

Werania concludes €2.1 billion arms deal with Tsabara
Westbrücken says the deal will be a boon for the Tsabaran government

WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - Defence Minister Ulrich Furler today announced that Werania had concluded an arms deal with Tsabara that amounts to €2.1 billion, one of the largest in the last ten years in Werania.

"This deal aims to ensure that the government in Adunis will have the ability to better bolster its forces as well as engage in more expansive counter-insurgency warfare that will be able to combat the current insurgent groups operating within Tsabaran territory" Furler said in a press announcement today alongside general Rabi Hashmi who was representing the Tsabaran military.

The deal's exact contents are classified but are known to include the sale of hundreds of light armoured vehicles (LAV's), around 40 large-calibre artillery systems and over a hundred heavy machine guns to Tsabara. Furler stated that Werania expects the equipment to be delivered to Tsabara promptly and that it will ensure that the Tsabaran government is able to possess a professional edge over insurgent groups enabling them to engage in large scale offensives against such groups.

The government stated it would continue to discuss a further arms deal with Tsabara that would also cover aircraft and missile technology but stated that such discussions would take time and that the government considers the new deal to be satisfactory for the current moment.

"This is a good deal, a great deal, for both Werania and Tsabara. The Tsabaran security situation naturally affects Werania and so we think that such a deal will help bolster both Tsabaran and Weranian national security" Furler stated.

The announcement comes shortly following an increase in tensions in the Rahelian state as Zorasani-backed rebels in the south declared the independent state of Hamada and Estmerish forces have attempted to perform a reportedly failed raid in the country. According to some sources the deal was fast-tracked in order to coincide with moves by the ECTDO to further step up forces in Tsabara in support of the Nazim al'Qutayni's government.

However, there has been some criticism by Tsabaran officials that their Weranian counterparts have been difficult partners. Its no secret that Westbrücken has been cautious about supporting the Qutayni government seeing him as having enabled former president Al-Tughluq's more bellicose tendencies and that some are closer to Aryeh Kahlon's Atudite People's Party. The recent cooperation between Qutayni and Popular Front leader Qadir Jabbar has also raised eyebrows in Westbrücken.

According to some sources, Weranian officials have been reluctant to discuss acquisition of surface-to-air missiles which the Tsabaran's say are amongst their most needed assets. Westbrücken has stated that it is still discussing the issue and that it is monitoring the development of issues closely on the ground.

The announcement of the deal has split the opposition. The SRPO have criticised the government for failing to provide greater support for the Qutayni government, stating that government is "risking letting the legitimate Tsabaran government fall into the hands of extremists". The Greens meanwhile have criticised the deal from the other direction stating "there is no guarantee Weranian hardware won't be used for human rights abuses" and that such moves may be a pretext for greater Weranian involvement in Tsabara which the Greens heavily oppose.

ESTMERE SPECIAL FORCES MASSACRE 15 CIVILIANS
Late in the night, Estmerish special forces stormed a hamlet and murdered 15 civilians including four children.
Sidi Amar, 18 December 2020

Image
Victims were taken to Ash Shalfa for identification.

Estmere, no longer content with massacring innocents from the air has now slaughtered men, women and children on the ground. Several days ago, Estmerish special forces attacked a remote hamlet outside Ash Shalfa, in Ain Djasser. The late-night raid left 15 people dead, including five women and four children, gunned down in their homes. The Supreme Committee for Governance and Resistance has vowed revenge, saying the base near Adunis housing Estmerish units will now be “a sitting target for the vengeance of Hamada.”

According to several survivors, residents of the farming hamlet, helicopter rotors were heard shortly after 1am, waking up residents and scaring several animals. Within minutes, armed men breached the wall compound, shooting their guns into the buildings. One man, who kept a gun for safety attempted to defend his family before being shot dead by an Estmerish soldier. The soldiers then proceeded to storm each building, shooting wildly. A grenade used by one of the soldiers exploded a gas tank, destroying the house and burying its inhabitants. After 10 minutes of horror, 15 of the 22 people who live in the hamlet were dead or dying and the Estmerish soldiers retreated to their helicopters and flew away.

Soldiers of the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance were alerted to the massacre and have secured the hamlet.

One ILR officer told us, “it is a bloodbath, there are bodies everywhere. They came to this place and killed everyone they found, even the children. I have never seen anything like this and I fought in the Irvadistan War as a young man.”

“This place is nothing more than a hamlet for herders, there is nothing here, no weapons, no missiles, nothing of value. It is a disgrace, we will have our vengeance for the children killed here, God willing” the officer further said.

The youngest victim of the raid was a six-year-old girl, who was found beside her elder brother and mother. Locals confirmed that the man who had the gun was his father and was more concerned with keeping the war far from his children.

News of the massacre reached Sidi Amar where a meeting of the SCGR was devoted entirely to the issue. According to a statement released by the committee on social media, “the news of Ash Shalfa suffering this inhumane massacre has shaken the people of Hamada to the core. This kind of barbarism is expected of Qutayni and his soldiers, but not a supposed proponent of the free world. Today, all of Hamada morns the children murdered. Tonight, we morn all the victims of Estmere’s façade.”

The SCGR has also ordered the ILR forces to “exact vicious revenge” upon Estmerish forces in Tsabara, wherever they are located. Several SCGR members pointedly called out the various military facilities around Adunis that house Estmere’s military forces deployed to Tsabara. The Sho’eva Air Base which is home to the Estmerish warplanes bombing Hamada was declared a “sitting target for the vengeance of Hamada” by the SCGR statement. Several months ago, the ILR forces launched several ballistic missiles at the Atudite-majority cities of the puppet government, striking fear among the enemy's families. It is now theorised that the ILR, if they maintain posession of such weapons may seek to strike at the Estmerish presence in Tsabara, though other SCGR sources have indicated they may be struck in different ways, including, "brave sleeper cells deep within the enemy's backyard awaiting the call to avenge our martyred innocents."

Many online have debated whether the raid was in response to the downing of an Estmerish warplane and the apparent capture of one pilot. The status and location of the pilot is unknown, with the SCGR refusing to comment on the pilot in any shape or form.

The International Council of Democracy has voted to readmit Tsabara as one of its members.

Image
Tsabaran President Nazim al'Qutayni concluded his speech to the delegates of the ICD with a single, defiant wave.
Morwall, Estmere - With a majority of states behind the motion, Tsabara has been re-admitted into the International Council of Democracy following a five year long appeal that began with the constitutional reforms implemented by former President Atwan al'Tughluq.

The motion put forward by Secretary-General Vasilios Stathakis was additionally supported by the ICD's Office for Elections and Democratic Institutions. The Office cited its oversight of the "election in Tsabara" and certified that:

"where elections took place, there was no systematic, intentional, or conspiratorial skewing of the election to favour one outcome over the other. There was adequate transparency and competition, and non-governing parties were granted the same rights as those who began the election in power."

The Euclean Community, with the exception of Caldia, voted unanimously in favour of re-admitting Nazim al'Qutayni's Tsabara to the International Council of Democracy. Sylviane Lambert, Gaullica's Foreign Minister, described the vote as "a historic reaffirming of democracy and its practices and to deny Tsabara readmittance now would be a rejection of our own democratic principles".

Caldia's Séamus Ó Faoláin reiterated his country's long-standing commitment to neutrality and impartiality on the issue, stressing that their "support for the Adunis government has been consistent".

Several other nations also put forth abstentions mostly marked by concerns pertaining to Nazim al'Qutayni's participation in electoral coalition put together by Atwan al'Tughluq. Within his regime, al'Qutayni served as Minister of the Interior up until he resigned over what he perceived to be "unconstitutional overstepping and racism against the Atudites". A source close to Ó Faoláin hinted that his initial rise to power, a coup d'etat against al'Tughluq's Premier: Aboud, was also a concern amongst many of the abstentions.

The Tsabaran President was present at the vote amongst the ICD's members and after the readmittance was invited to give a speech. Taking centre-stage at the assembly, the al'Qutayni began by "issuing [his] thanks to all assembled democracies" and that their "second-chance to Tsabara would not be squandered". In what has been described to be an effort to appeal to those who still view him with suspicion, Nazim said that "[he] understood the difficulties some nations and delegates had in accepting this motion for re-admittance. I am here to tell you that Tsabara will be different, it shall be different, and many of the constitutional changes made by my predecessor will be addressed and re-examined when stability has returned to my country." He would go on to say that "this acceptance, this recognition of legitimacy, will go a long way in securing the last vestiges of domestic faith needed amongst those who have bought into the propaganda of electoral illegitimacy."

The rest of his speech focused on the commitments to free and fair elections, electoral transparency, coalition governments, proportional democracy and an independent press and judiciary. He stressed an importance in distancing Tsabara from the worst of the reforms of the Movement of National Revival, but also highlighted his perceived difficulties in achieving this in the middle of fighting an insurrection.

After thanking the assembled delegates for a final time, al'Qutayni raised his hand in a defiant fist and said "morning will come!"

EC PLACES SANCTIONS ON INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS BACKING TSABARAN REBELS

Image
The EC's sanctions target senior Zorasani military officials and some national organizations.
Kesselbourg, Kesselbourg - In response to the unliteral independence declaration by the unrecognized Hamada state, the Euclean Community has announced a package of sanctions against senior members of the Zorasani military and other organizations found to be active in Tsabara. The EC has been assembling sanctions for several weeks, as the Euclean Council’s foreign policy working group identified key backers of Tsabaran rebels.

As a press conference, EC Commissioner for Foreign and Global Affairs Vivien Vallette said that the working group "carefully examined all evidence" and made decisions "based on the best information available".

Based on the working group's findings, 31 Zorasani military officials, eight additional individuals, and three organizations will be sanctioned by the Euclean Community.

Included are the 19 members of the Zorasani Central Command Council, the country's most senior military body. Additional military official sanctioned are those found to have been leading active military operations in Tsabara, including those suspected of being involved in covert activities.

Also sanctioned are the Talayi Foundation, Motahhari-Chamran Foundation, and Zorasani-Tsabaran Assistance Society. Per the working group's findings, these organizations have provided financial and material aid to rebels in Tsabara, concentrated in Hamada. The heads of these groups have also been added to the EC's blacklist.

Vallette indicated that this is the first of a series of potential sanctions packages. In a warning to Zorasani civilian officials, the Foreign Commissioner said that "a failure to reverse course and end illegal intervention in Tsabara, intervention that supporters terrorists against an internationally recognized government, will result in more sanctions".

"This behavior is unacceptable. There is more on the horizon if there is no change. We have concentrated this package on those involved in Zorasan's military operations, but in future those in the civilian government who enable this rogue behavior will suffer the consequences".

The sanctions come in response to a declaration of independence by the Supreme Committee for Governance and Resistance. They established the unrecognized United Irfanic Republic of Hamada. The rebel group behind Hamada's independence is closely associated with elements of the Zorasani military. Other groups, such as Al-Isbah, are also suspected to have ties with the Zorasani military.

Euclean governments have throw their support behind the internationally recognized government of President Nazim al'Qutayni. Backing for the Adunis government has increased after al'Qutayni and his allies swept elections held in November.

This is the second package of sanctions announced by the EC. The bloc has already instituted sanctions against individuals and groups in Tsabara. Today's round of sanctions marks the first time they have been applied to foreign entities.

Vallette has indicated that sanctions on individuals and organizations put in place by the EC are likely to be replicated by the bloc's partners. "We anticipate that these illegal, rogue actors will be chastised by the international community".

Tsabaran rebels making shocking gains before advance is halted
Operation Irfanic Revenge leaves Bayadha and its peninsula besieged and the ILR advancing on Qa'ah from two directions

The prior stalemate has returned to the Tsabaran Civil War, ending a period that saw shocking rebel gains in the south and west, including the capture of territory that has resulted in the Bayadha peninsula and its titular city cut off from government territory. The rebel offensive beginning last November has left an estimated 13,400 civilians killed, and a further 800,000 displaced from their homes.

Results of Operation Irfanic Revenge

As of yesterday, the rebel offensive launched last November was universally declared over and not just by analysts. In a series of social media posts (the separatist authorities operate a savvy digital propaganda machine), the offensive, dubbed “Operation Irfanic Revenge” in reference to the horrific Mazar attacks in late 2019, was declared “over and imbued with victory after victory.” The separatists said, “Operation Irfanic Revenge has gifted the puppet regime a slap in the face as they witnessed their frontlines collapse under the weight of the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance, who triumphed over their resistance and the aid of their Euclean masters from the air.” Over the course of the past five months, separatist social media has been awash with images of “liberated” towns and villages, destroyed or abandoned government vehicles and tanks, and images of dead government soldiers.

Over the period the offensive, we at the Tsabaran Conflict Monitor have corroborated the hundreds of social media posts and televised headlines in separatist and government outlets. We can now confirm that the situation has settled as follows:

• ILR forces have captured 78 towns and villages, predominately in the west and south (areas of conflict). The ILR have captured several villages in the north, but while failing to seize oilfields are continuing their efforts.
• Government forces were able to retake 19 towns and villages from ILR forces. In one such counter-attack, the ILR confirmed that Brigadier General Mohsen Saadek was killed.
• The capture of Kerrenkul and Tamimah has severed the M2 Coastal Highway, connecting the Bayadha peninsula and the city of Bayadha from government-held territory.
• The capture of Armala has enabled the ILR to deploy artillery against the city of Bayadha.
• ILR forces have captured the Al-Qasir Plastics Factory and several villages west, the town of Adar and its surrounding satellite villages have been captured, enabling the artillery bombardment of the M3 Highway connecting Qa’ah with Bayadha to the south.
• ILR forces captured 35% of Baksariya, with heavy fighting still being reported inside the town north of Qa’ah.
• ILR attempts to seize the K2, K3 and K4 Oilfields were repulsed by the government. We estimate that 2,495 separatist fighters were killed and a further 6,000 injured as a result.
• ILR forces have launched six successive missile and drone attacks against the Atudite-majority city of Zahana, since 10 December 2020.
• Three Tsabaran Federal Air Force Mirage 2000 aircraft were shot down during the November-March period.
• One TFAF Mirage 5 was shot down on 11 January 2021.
• ILR advances directly toward Qa’ah, classified as “probing attacks” were repulsed with heavy losses.
• At least six Zorasani made SAI Dabr and SAI Jarrereh loitering munitions (“kamikaze drones”) have been discovered along the front. These types of drones have been credited with government tank and artillery losses.
• On March 13, Qa’ah was struck by eighteen 155mm rockets, killing 4 civilians and injuring 12 others.
• We estimated that 8,509 separatists were killed and 13,888 injured or captured.
• We estimated that 6,987 government soldiers were killed and 15,002 injured or captured.
• According to government and local sources, at least 13,400 civilians were killed during the same period and a further 800,000 have been internally displaced.

Key Events

When the offensive was launched last November following the formal declaration of secession by the so-called “United Irfanic Republic of Hamada”, it was slow and often at times, appeared to be a failure before it had truly begun. However, utilising local social media posts, sources both on the front and in Adunis, it appeared that the ILR utilised a twin-track approach to undermine the government’s numerical superiority. Lightly armed insurgent like groups attacks government lines at night, attempting to probe weak points, which were then struck by the regular units (which defected prior to the war), using drones and loitering munitions to both destroy fortified positions and vehicles. This enabled the ILR to breakthrough at several points, notably, in the south in Trifaoui province, and in the west, where ILR forces north-west of Qusayir and west of Al-Qasir. There, they relied upon the presence of urban areas to avoid limit the effects of government and allied airpower.
Image
Government forces have been downing a growing number of Zorasani-produced drones since December.

In the north, where the ILR was clear in its intent to capture the remaining on-shore oil fields in Ain Yagout and Ain Djasser provinces, it was markedly less successful. The terrain of this region is mostly flat and open, with limited vegetation or urban areas from which they could cover their advances from airpower. Despite repeated attempts, it appears the ILR has failed to seize any oil facility and suffered heavy losses in both men and equipment.

Government attempts at counterattacks in the Qusayir and Al-Qasir regions were repulsed by the ILR. At least 360 government troops were killed in a regiment-sized ambush north of Al-Qasir, though this has been denied by the Adunis government. According to sources the separatists made adept use of anti-tank missiles, some of which may have been Zorasani-produced, though we could not find any corroborative evidence to support this.

Analysis

The near four-month-long separatist offensive will leave Adunis and the Euclean capitals backing it, equally disturbed. Not only have the separatists managed to seize ground, they’ve been able to inflict sizeable losses in some areas, while also placing the 650,000 people of the Bayadha peninsula under siege. This was achieved in spit of government and allied air superiority and the widely held belief that government forces held the technological and quantitative edge, the former has been consistently false owing to a vast majority of ILR units being defected regulars.

We spoke to a series of retired military officers from several Euclean militaries for their analysis of the offensive; the universal answer was that it should worry Adunis profoundly, as their air dominance means little if the ILR is able to break through their lines and gain territory. What also worried these retired officers was the ILR’s adept use of surface-to-air systems and loitering munitions.

The loss of four aircraft over a five-month period may appear small or minute, but with each loss is one difficult to replace, especially the pilots. Of the four downed by ILR units, only one pilot landed in government-held territory. One retired Estmerish officer stated, “the ILR appears to be confident in its use of short-range and medium-range air defences, and while more advanced systems would have posed a greater danger to the government and allied aircraft, they’re inflicting losses, which will always force planners and commanders to alter their operations.” No aircraft belonging to Estmere or Etruria were reportedly damaged during the same time period.

Another issue will concern our associates is the use of loitering munitions, relatively small drones that are difficult to detect and shoot down. Buzzing above targets, these drones, which carrying explosives inside them, then nosedive into vehicles, fortifications and personnel and explode. These drones have proven effective and knocking out government tanks and other armoured vehicles, but what concerns our analysts is that the rebels, nor the government posses such systems. Over the course of the offensive, social media posts revealed crashed drones, which have since been identified as being Zorasani in origin, meaning the Union is supplying rebels with these weapons, though the number of drones in use with the rebels is not known.

“What I think has happened is that the myth or at least the preconception that the civil war in Tsabara is on one side, the able, professional, and dutiful government forces and on the other, a ragtag collection of militiamen and insurgents. This is not the case, the mass defections of entire equipped units prior to the outbreak of the war, especially those based in the east, has delivered a peer-to-peer civil war. What the separatists may lack in numbers, they appear to make up in initiative and ingenuity in strategy and tactics. This is war is only going to get worse, in terms of loss of life and devastation”, retired Brigadier General George Royce told us.

The rebels currently seem unable to capture Bayadha, the provincial capital of Trifaoui, and instead, appear to be relying on only being accessible by air and sea to degrade its defenders. Should the ILR capture the peninsula, they will deny the Adunis government, the largest naval base on its southern coast and place within range of missiles, the various off-shore oil facilities in the Gulf of Parishar.

Nazim al'Qutayni arrives in Poveglia to begin a series of diplomatic talks with Euclean leaders.

Image
President Nazim al'Qutayni met with his Etrurian counterpart Francesco Carcaterra,
signalling the beginning of the former's 'Euclean Outreach'.
Poveglia, Etruria - Beginning his most significant international meetings of the year, President Nazim al'Qutayni has arrived in Poveglia, Etruria. The arrival signals a few weeks worth of discussion across eastern Euclea; where al'Qutayni is expected to speak to leaders from Etruria, Paretia, Gaullica, Estmere and Werania concerning Euclean involvement in Tsabara.

The talks had been planned since earlier this year, but were accelerated in importance across the Solarian Sea following a string of successes in the advances of the rebel forces before the Tsabaran military was able to halt them, and turn the tide in some places.

Currently, Estmere and Etruria have been providing direct military assistance to Tsabara's government. This assistance has come in the form of naval and aerial support; including missile and airstrikes on targets identified and prioritised by Adunis.

Instances of Euclean warplanes flying over Tsabara have become more common, which the government defends as occurring due to the "irrefutable evidence" of Zoroasani involvement and support for the rebels.

Werania's support for the government has come through highly publicised arms deals between both countries, which were domestically criticised in the northern Euclean country.

Gaullica, which was perceived to be the most hesitant country involved, has exercised naval forces in the theatre for the longest: but these have been relegated to ensuring strait stability; rather than providing the support the Etrurian navy has.

Other than this, most Euclean countries have been providing some form of humanitarian assistance to Tsabara in the hopes of 'stemming the tide' of a refugee crisis across the Aurean.

Carcaterra welcomed his Tsabaran counterpart warmly. The two have aligned on numerous issues before; with al'Qutayni praising the "conduct and determination" of Etrurian aerial and naval forces currently providing support for the Tsabaran government. Carcaterra had once referred to his nation as the "watchtower, gatehouse and battlements" of Euclea. In reference to this, al'Qutayni joked that he had been "let in".

Whilst the nature of the talks are largely unknown in specifics, it is expected that both sides will be aiming to negotiate an arms contract. It is expected that the domestic Tsabaran arms manufacturers are looking to be permitted to license production of newer Euclean armaments for their own usage, something that the President seems intent on making clear to "defeat the rebels." Some speculate that Nazim intends on asking his Euclean 'allies' in Carcaterra and Wilton-Smyth, who may not be an ally for much longer, for more dedicated support in future advances -- including extending the no-fly zone imposed by the government, as well as the operational zone of Euclean aircraft.

Both Tsabara and Etruria have signalled that they wish for these talks to be successful. In Etruria Nazim sees a Euclean power that isn't 'constrained by liberal doves', whilst in Tsabara Carcaterra quite possibly sees a proving ground on the international stage that says, despite their harsh rhetoric domestically, Etruria will tow the 'continental line' when push comes to shove.

The Tsabaran Crisis: Who are the Suhalans?
Le Monde takes a look at one of the most oversighted people in the Tsabaran Crisis; the Suhalans.

Xand Albanese is a 'living legend' amongst Suhalan fighters; having volunteered to fight for the Federation despite being 76 years old.

Lazrou, Tsabara

When one thinks of the Federal Republic of Tsabara it is not unreasonable to assume that what comes to their mind is a simple dichotomy between 'liberal' coastal Atudites and 'conservative' rural Rahelians. Whilst this is a gross oversimplification that does nothing but to condense an incredibly diverse country, with varying social views and economic positions between its ethnic groups, it ignores the rich ethnic diversity found in it too.

When people are reminded of the remnants of the Euclean colonisation of the area; that brought Gaullican families (and to a lesser extent other Eucleans like Etrurians and Paretians) to the Sotirian, Irfanic and Atudaic Holy Land, it is met with confusion and perplexed ideas on the legacy of imperialism. When they are informed that there are indigenous Sotirians who speak a language that is linguistically related to the Solarian languages of Euclea, some people believe you're pulling their leg.

The Suhalans are an old ethnic group; having arisen out of a mixture of the native peoples of northern Tsabara and the Solarian colonists who migrated to the region during the existence of the empire. As aforementioned: they are primarily a Sotirian people in communion with Solaris and speak 'Suhalan' "Rahelian Solarian". This language is linguistically similar to Montecaran and Emessan and was virtually indistinguishable from several coastal Solarian-descendant languages until the turn of the first millennium. Now its lexicon is sprinkled with many loan-words from Rahelian linguistic groups and, conversely, Gaullican terms from their time under both the Verliquoian and Gaullican Empires.

They live, roughly, along the northern Tsabaran coast from Manara to Sadaa and roughly towards the border of Nise. And have lived here for hundreds of years, if not thousands. They have been part of countless empires and states, including their own several times, and have served across dozens of armies: Solarian, Verliquoian, Heavenly Kingdom, the Tagamic armies, Euclean armies during the attempted reconquest of the Holy Land, localised sultanates and emirates and finally the Gaullican Empire. The Suhalans were amongst the most critical of the Communalist Regime in Tsabara and many underwent a diaspora during the forty-odd years of its control of the country. It can be said with a general accurateness that many Suhalans are fiercely patriotic of their regionalist identity and many of their religious, linguistic and cultural traditions were safeguarded under the constitution of the Federal Republic.

We at Le Monde had the privilege of speaking to Xand Albanese, a local community leader and 'proud Suhalan and Tsabaran' who decried the attempts to dissolve the Federation. Albanese confessed to us that he had never considered Tsabara to be his country, but volunteered to defend "[my] home and [my] people" in the ongoing civil war between the government and radical Irfanic extremists in the east of the country.

Xand described his efforts as localised attempts to show that the guaranteed constitutional rights of the Federation will not be eroded by any attacks on the consociational state. "It is a simple thing," he told us. "If we do nothing, then the enemy will win. The government needs our support. I voted for President al'Qutayni not because I like him but because I think he will do this rightly. My loyalty is to the Suhalans and he will defend them. He has promised. I do not trust politicians, but the international community is watching him."

For the sake of anonymity and safety, Xand Albanese did not identify how many volunteers from his local community had come with him but he described it as a "a lot". He also explained that there was a large amount of initial confusion because the "terrorists haven't reached our part of Tsabara", so "when we arrived at the front we noticed we were fighting alongisde the TSWI and well part of me wanted to shoot them too."

"But this fight is bigger than us and them," Xand said as our conversation with him came to a close. "Our resentments don't matter anymore; not for now. We're all fighting for the same thing."

The Suhalans continue to fight alongside the government, as part of the broad coalition of ethnic and ethno-religious minorities that constitute a resistance to the threat of Irfanic extremism. They are a reminder, along with countless other groups, of the complexities of a conflict that many outside of the country may erroneously believe to be a simple ethnic conflict.

Government confirms that 'Emporia Croci' Solarian site has been "substantially damaged" by previously occupying forces.

Image
Emporia Croci, literally translating to 'Saffron Markets', was one of the most well-preserved Solarian settlements in the world:
and much of that has been lost.
Emporia Croci Archaeological Site, Tsabara - At the height of the Solarian Empire, when it stretched from southern Werania to northern Zorasan, a singular settlement was one of the most important in terms of transcontinental trade. Emporia Croci, now in the southern Tsabaran province of Trifaoui, was the centre-point for all overland trade from southern Coius to the empire.

Literally translated to mean "Saffron Markets", Empora Croci gained the name from popular parlance of the fact that a majority of the saffron consumed within the Solarian Empire originated from Croci; not grown there, but shipped out across the empire from that settlement. It traded hands between the Solarians and the Heavenly Dominion a few times; but mostly remained in the hands of the Solarians until the Verliqoians were kicked from the continent near the end of the first millennium.

To the Eucleans, it was scarcely remembered -- and it came under the control of various powers and peoples; including the Tagames, Rahelians, Atudites and others. However, a combination of earthquakes and its falling out as a centre of trade left it abandoned -- and yet, strangely preserved. By the 19th century, Gaullican colonial authorities in Atudea had rediscovered the site and relocated any remaining people who resided in its ruins; opening them for archaeological study. Throughout its operation from 1871 - 1934, Gaullican archaeologists uncovered the settlement's walls, its forum and large market-places, countless temples, houses and public buildings like its local government senate building as well as its amphitheatre. Whilst they were not intact, of course, the level of their preservation was noted as "remarkable" and the area became a centre of renewed interest in the study of Solarian society.

In addition to the buildings; amphora pots, coins, armour, weapons and skeletal remains were found and extensively studied. Much of these were shipped back to Gaullica; where they remain in museums.

However in late 2020 the site came under attack by the Zorasani-backed insurgents and secessionists fighting the government. Concern in the archaeological community indicated fears of looting and destruction of the site; which the government confirmed earlier today after the results of an "immensely swift and successful" counterattack in the Trifaoui province that saw the ancient settlement return to the government's hands.

General Yedidyah, who oversaw the counter-attack, described the revelation as "immensely distressing." He said; "we arrived at the scene following reports from the soldiers that the structures had taken external damage. And yet that did not do it justice; the Temple of Sol has lost much of its facade; and the remaining artefacts that were returned have either been destroyed or looted. The foundations of the senate building were seemingly rigged with explosives."

The Ministry of Culture has announced the "devastation of the site" as a "great loss for the human race" and furthered that "once the region is secure, all effort to preserve the site would be brought back to attention". President al'Qutayni said of the destruction that "of course, those secessionists have no respect for Tsabaran, and wider human, history".

The claims of the government, however, have been called into question. Some believe that the government is withholding information on the true devastation of the site; and even that they have inadvertently assisted in its partial destruction by way of the aggressive campaign conducted in the region.

In spite of this, it is unquestionable that the site is no longer as well preserved as it once was. And for that, humanity is poorer.

Political shakeup in Hamada as separatists elevate ‘Field Marshal Zahran al-Amari’ as “Supreme Leader”
Reported factional power struggles and Zorasani pressure lead to the rebels' military commander being appointed de-facto leader of the separatist polity
TSABARA by Khadim al-Razam
August 16, 2021

Image
Zahran al-Amari who served as head of the Tsabaran national armed forces before the civil
war, now serves as the de-facto leader of the separatists"
Aundis, Tsabara In a surprise move following weeks of rumoured politicking, the Supreme Committee for Governance and Liberation, the highest decision-making body in the so-called United Irfanic Republic of Hamada”, have endorsed the elevation of Field Marshal Zahran al-Amari as the principal leader of the separatist state, while his predecessor, Sheik Faizan Salah is relegated to deputy supreme leader and the Chief of Religious Affairs and Spiritual Mobilisation.

Following weeks of reported and rumoured disgruntlement over Shaik Salah’s leadership, the Supreme Committee for Governance and Resistance, the principal decision making body of the Tsabaran separatist faction, have replaced him with the commander of the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance; the fighting forces of the separatists, Zahran al-Amari as the de-facto leader, affording him the new office of Supreme Leader of the Republic and Resistance. This also marks a major shift in power from the Irfanic clerics to military men, specifically, those who served in the national armed forces before the November coup of 2019, which overthrew the rump of Atwan al-Tughluq’s government.

At an emergency session, the SCGR tabled a vote of no-confidence against Sheik Salah, who reportedly was informed of the move beforehand. Notably, several senior clerics who serve on the council vote in favour of Salah’s removal. One source close to the separatist leadership described the session as the “most polite, charming and flattering coup imaginable.” After members afforded Sheik Salah much praise for his spiritual mobilisation of the Hamadi people, the vote was concluded, and Sheik Salah was removed as Chairman of the SCGR. Within minutes a second vote was reportedly held in which ‘Field Marshal Zahran al-Amari’ was appointed as his successor. Al-Amari has commanded the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance, the fighting forces of the separatists since their established in early 2020.

Sources indicated that this entire process was engineered by both clerics and military men in response to what they saw as Salah’s micromanagement and overly cautious approach to the war effort. One SCGR member who spoke to us under condition of anonymity said, “for months now, we’ve seen Salah exert his position on the ILR, constantly holding back plans that would see us make the gains necessary to seize territory from the regime in Adunis. He’s constantly in fear that major gains would result in a cataclysm, we [the SCGR] suspect its fear he’d be blown up in a drone strike. But really, we suspect he’s content with what we hold now. He’s a drag on our efforts and as a cleric, with all respect, he knows not how to wage war.”

Another source told us that Salah consistently sought updates on deployments and was keen to undermine the civilian governors of Hamadi territory by appointing clerics as deputies. The cleric also sought the transfer of all aid distribution to the Mazars’ seemingly to boost the influence of the clerical faction.

Though sources indicate it was concerns over Salah’s micromanaging of the ILR, much to chagrin of Al-Amari and others, the truer sense may be more to do factional power struggles. Within the SCGR, there are three distinct groups; clerics, officers and civilians, these are all figures who served in political positions within the Tsabaran state before the November coup. The clerics held prominent positions as advisors to al-Tughluq, while the officers served in the Tsabaran Federal Armed Forces and the civilians served in his government or the states that seceded following the coup led by Nazim al-Qutayni and senior Atudite officials. While they’re united on the core mission of the separatists, they differ on both method and the end goal. The clerics, we’re told through a multitude of sources want Adunis seized for the sake of the holy city’s return to Irfanic rule, the generals and the civilians support the establishment of Hamada as an independent state. The clerics and the generals support the establishment of a political system similar to Zorasan (an authoritarian militaristic single party state with a significant clerical influence), while the civilians seek some form of democracy.

Interestingly, this entire affair appears to have been orchestrated by both the civilian and military factions, with the support of a minority, but a sizeable one. Another factor that cropped up from our sources was Zorasani pressure to see Salah replaced.

“They were engaged very deeply with this move, they shared concerns with others that Salah was micromanaging the separatist cause toward crisis. They see Al-Amari as much more cooperative and similar in outlook, in regard to the war. Al-Amari is much closer to the Zorasani worldview than Salah, who wanted appeared to want a theocracy, not something more aligned to the Zorasani way of governing” one source told us. AKHID, Zorasan's all-powerful military intelligence service is widely believed to enjoy strong ties to the separatist leadership. While there has been no comment in Zorasani media about the events in Tsabara, other sources of information have indicated growing disquiet at the leadership of Sheik Salah, while many analysts have noted that AKHID may well be keen to see a more compliant and cooperative figure in the rebel East, especially as tensions between Zorasan and Euclea grow over a multitude of issues, a reliable partner would further empower the separatists as a tool against Euclean interests in northern Coius.

Though Salah now finds himself removed from the top position, he remains the second most influential individual in the separatist state. Sources told us that Al-Amari was keen to make him his deputy and responsible for “spiritual mobilisation” – a Zorasani term for the use of religious belief to energise a populace during conflict. Salah also remains the premier theological authority in the separatist state.

Field Marshal Zahran al-Amari will assume the newly created office of Supreme Leader of the Republic and Resistance, essentially becoming the de-facto leader. This new office merges the positions of chairman of the SCGR with supreme commander of the ILR, granting Al-Amari the chief military and political levers of power.

Who is Zahran al-Amari

Zahran al-Amari was born on 3 March 1946, in Qa’ah, Republic of Tsabara. He was born to a relatively middle-class family, with his father having severed in various administrative positions in the Estmerish Mandate. Following the seizure of power by the Communalists in 1948, his father joined the government as a prominent civil servant. In 1966, Al-Amari joined the army as a cadet and would rise through the ranks, becoming an office by 1976 where he would then see action in the Second Rahelian War against Zorasan.

In 1985, Al-Amari reportedly joined with the revolution that overthrew the Communalist regime and established the democratic federation of today. He would remain a rising star within the armed forces, before becoming Chief of the Defence Staff in 2013 under President Atwan al-Tughluq. He established a close relationship with the strongman leader and was a reported fervent support of Al-Tughluq’s efforts to undermine the co-social system.

During the initial crisis preceding the civil war, Al-Amari resigned as Chief of the Defence Staff following the seizure of Sfira Army and Air Force Base by Atudite army units in opposition to the erosion of Atudite civil and political rights. Al-Amari reportedly demanded violent retaliation over Al-Tughluq’s desire to negotiate an end to the base occupation. Eager to retain his ally’s support, Al-Tughluq appointed Al-Amari as commander of the Eastern Defence Theatre, giving him command over all military units in eastern and near exclusively Rahelian Tsabara. When Al-Tughluq died and was succeeded by Yayha Aboud, Al-Amari was nearly reinstated as Chief of the Defence Staff, only to see Aboud and his government overthrown in November 2019 by a coup.

Al-Amari, as the commanding officer of all eastern forces was swift to rally his troops and officers in opposition to the new government led by Nazim al-Qutayni and in collaboration with Sheik Salah, local provincial governors and Al-Tughluq government survivors, established the Irfanic Liberation and Resistance and instigated the uprising that would result in civil war and the establishment of the separatist United Irfanic Republic of Hamada.

Al-Amari is credited with the expulsion of government forces in early 2020 from the rebellious east and the ILR’s gains in the mid-2021 offensive. His ascension to de-facto leader could pose serious problems for Adunis, as he would no longer be subjected to the cautious approach of Sheik Salah.

Bayadha Siege: A report from the city under siege.

Image
Bayadha is the largest port in southern Tsabara, and has been under siege since the beginning of the month.
Here a rocket strikes an apartment complex near the city-centre.
Bayadha, Tsabara - In the Trifaoui province, the Tsabaran Civil War has been at its fiercest. The focus on the war's fronts has often discussed the back-and-forth on the outskirts of Qaa; the numerous offensives and counter-offensives that skirt across Bedjene.

The city of Bayadha, an important port on the Gulf of Parishar, home to over 800,000 people, has been encircled on the land by secessionist insurgents since the beginning of August. By the air and by the sea, however, the city has been able to find relief: as the strong aerial and naval presence of federal forces have been able to keep supply lines open.

But it has been a harrowing sixteen days; sixteen days of missile strikes on parts of the city; sixteen days of municipally enforced rationing and sixteen days of a tired populace that have attempted to leave the city by any means necessary. Initially, an exodus occurred as secessionist forces broke through government lines near the east of the peninsula. Countless people, the family and friends of those who owned boats, charted out to sea - to other parts of Tsabara. Those with enough money to purchase same-day flights scrambled to the multiple airports in the city and aimed at domestic and international flights as the crisis crawls towards the urbanised coast.

Both these scenarios were harrowing to watch; as photographs capturing private boating craft sailing past Tsabaran warships, and commercial jets escorted by Tsabaran and Estmerish fighter craft, were rapidly posted on social media.

Within Bayadha a strange dichotomy has emerged. Periods of long silence and darkness are interrupted by loud explosions, flashes of intense red light and fire, a retaliatory strike, and the emergence of fighter-jets overhead. Soldiers patrol the streets, announcements declaring for individuals to remain indoors blare through the airwaves, and daily updates from President Nazim al'Qutayni fill the television screens.

Military checkpoints exist along the highways and countless individuals have been temporarily housed in hotels, warehouses and within public spaces following the destruction of their homes on the outskirts of the city. Water has quickly become a valuable commodity, carefully guarded by local and federal forces as well as a hastily conscripted police contingent. Fortunately for the population there is no shortage yet, as shipping continues to be viable as the Tsabaran -- and further out still Euclean -- navies patrol the waves against a foe with no naval presence.

Yet the situation grows increasingly dire. A population can only sustain so much eruption, devastation, destruction. And only so many failed sorties before all becomes lost. Nazim al'Qutayni has pledged that he will "never abandon Tsabarans", and the city's municipal council unanimously voted to "never surrender the city" to secessionists. And hope has risen in recent days over reports of some success further up the peninsula from federal forces; but their march to the city has been halted.

For now there is peace in a city under siege; but who knows what may happen if this siege is sustained.

Sheik Faizan Salah killed in air strike.

Image
The Ministry of Defence released video and still images of the airstrike near Khufayrat
Adunis, Tsabara - In a brief televised statement, President Nazim Al-Qutayni reported a government airstrike has killed prominent figures of the separatists, including Sheik Faizan Salah. He told the nation, “at dawn this morning, our pilots and warplanes struck a compound and destroyed it. We have eliminated Sheik Salah and his coterie of acolytes.”

Appearing on TCTV News, the President said in full:

“My fellow Tsabarans, an important development has occurred today. At dawn this morning, our pilots and warplanes struck a compound and destroyed it. Within its walls was Sheik Faizan Salah and several of his acolytes.

“I can confirm that we have eliminated Sheik Salah and his coterie of acolytes. He is dead and never again will he mobilise the Irfanic faith against our constitution, our nation and our unity. This is a devastating blow for the separatist terrorists who seek to rip apart our country. They have lost their beloved cleric and it is important that they know, they will lose so many more leaders until our country sees victory and peace” he said further.

“With this successful strike against an enemy of the state, we once again prove our capabilities both to the world and to our enemies near and abroad. We will not hesitate if we find you, to destroy you. Today we celebrate, tomorrow, the war continues. God have mercy on our troops and peace be with you all” he concluded.

The president’s address will bring some good news to a nation concerned by the ongoing siege in Bayadha, where an estimated 800,000 people remain trapped and under separatist bombardment.

Reports of large explosions just east of separatist-held Khufayrat reached social media shortly after 8am. No official statement was made by any known separatist-run account on the clips of explosions.

The Ministry of Defence has released a clip and still images of the airstrike that struck Sheik Salah, as well as further details of the operation.
Alongside the Sheik, Peshvar Mohammad Ali Farouk and Peshvar Ghassan al-Sarazi, two prominent cleric members of the separatist leadership were killed. The strike marks the first time the FAF had successfully eliminated high ranking members of the separatist leadership.

Only two days ago, Sheik Salah was replaced as de-facto leader of the separatists by former Chief of the Defence Staff, Zahran al-Amari, who now holds the position of Supreme Leader of the Republic and Resistance.

The Ministry of Defence’s statement indicated that Salah had been tracked by the intelligence services for at least a week before today’s strike. The statement stressed that he would have been eliminated if had not be been usurped by the SCGR.

A source close to the MoD described the strike as a “major success.” They told us in exchange for going unnamed to discuss it in detail, “this is a blow against the separatists, Salah was the charismatic voice of the League of the Righteous prior to our nation’s collapse into civil war. His charisma rallied the remnants of Al-Tughluq’s regime and the Rahelian east, he is perhaps owed the most credit for the emergence of a separatist cause.”

“It may not have an effect on the battlefield, but the loss of such a symbolic character may well be a significant strike against separatist morale and that will be beneficial to Tsabara regardless” the source said further.
The separatists have yet to confirm or deny the killing of Sheik Salah.

Who was Sheik Faizan Salah?
Image
The MoD did not elaborate on how they tracked Sheik Salah for a week.

Faizan Salah was born 3 February 1958 to a poor farming family near Hitteen. He was the fourth of six children, three of which would die young from disease. He claimed the loss of three siblings drew him to religion; he was notably active at his local Mazar at a young age. However, the Mazar he attended was virulently opposed to the Communalist regime and was shuttered. The Peshvar of the Mazar fled to Zorasan, taking Salah with him to secure him a position at a seminary in Ardakan, Irfan’s holiest city.

From age 15 to 24, he studied at the Emam Hussein Seminary, becoming a favoured student of Ayatollah Farid Kharampour, a senior authority in the theory of “social salvation”, in which good works and activism are superior means to engage the faithful. In 1982, he was awarded the rank of Peshvar and was appointed to a Mazar in northern Irvadistan, where he served until 1985, when he returned home following the overthrow of the Communalist regime.

Between 1985 and 1990, he served as the Peshvar for a Mazar in Sidi Amar, there he also met a group of clerics who shared his enthusiasm for religious activism, leading to the establishment of the League of the Righteous in 1993, a localised group dedicated to assisting the poor, vulnerable and engaging the faithful in various social events.

By 2005, the number of LR branches expanded to well over 300 across the eastern provinces of the country, becoming a highly influential organisation among the country’s Irfanic and Rahelian population. By 2009, the LR operated offices in every province and boasted over 5.5 million members.

In 2010, Salah returned to Zorasan to attend further studies in theology at the Emam Fereydun Seminary in Namrin, there he established ties with senior Zorasani clerics, several of whom would go on to serve in the current political leadership.

Upon his return in 2012, Salah secured the formal alliance between the LR and Atwan Al-Tughluq’s National Irfanic Coalition, becoming a major influence in relation to Al-Tughluq’s erosion of the co-social system and Tsabara’s constitution. Salah in a series of papers and thesis printed between 2012 and 2019 described the process as the “natural process upon which the gift from God, that is demographics originates.”
Salah for his part was also remarkably political and regularly agitated his congregants against the Atudite population and the wider coastal regions, once describing them both as “the insidious elements that come crawling forth from the cracks of the earth, hellbent on our misery and deprivation. The Atudite and the takfir, they co-exist in lavish gluttony and enjoyment that we must be confined to poverty and illiteracy.”
Naturally, the response to Al-Tughluq’s policies and his ultimate death fed into Salah’s grievances, and thus those of the Rahelian east. His swift moves to call for a unified retaliation against the overthrow of Yahya Aboud by Nazim al-Qutayni and those who sought to save our democracy was all to natural for the cleric.

Once in command of his rebellion, he did succeed in drawing upon survivors of the overthrow and rallied tens of thousands of Rahelian troops to defect alongside their entire bases and with their tanks, weaponry and equipment. But he micromanaged, aggrieved the military men and would
