Laurenthean Flag Referendum - 2021 [Open]

[Laurenthea]

On popular demand, and following a petition submitted by a delegation of over 10,000 Laurenthean citizens, the Government has recognised the people's wishes and has order the Electoral Commission of Laurenthea to conduct a flag referendum. For the next 72 hours, people may vote for either to retain the old flag, or choose from one of the new, proposed designs. The choice with the most votes will officially be made the flag of Laurenthea.

À la demande générale et à la suite d'une pétition déposée par une délégation de plus de 10 000 citoyens des Laurentides, le gouvernement a reconnu les vœux de la population et a ordonné à la Commission électorale de Laurentia de tenir un référendum sur le drapeau. Pendant les 72 heures suivantes, les gens peuvent voter pour conserver l'ancien drapeau ou choisir l'un des nouveaux modèles proposés. Le choix avec le plus de votes sera officiellement fait du drapeau de la Laurentie.

Design 1: The Old Lemon Banner / La Vieille Bannière de Citron

The current national flag, the red on the two sides of the flag represents the blood of the soldiers who died fighting for Laurenthean sovereignty from the French and former Austro-Hungarian borders on the west and the east. The blue in the middle represents the coast and the rivers of the nation, and the lemon is a historic symbol of the nation, representing the fertility of the land, and the beauty of the countryside. The yellow and green banners represent the fields of wheat and the forests of Laurenthea respectively.

Le drapeau national actuel, le rouge des deux côtés du drapeau représente le sang des soldats morts en combattant pour la souveraineté laurentienne depuis les frontières françaises et austro-hongroises à l'ouest et à l'est. Design 2: The New Lemon Banner / La Nouvelle Bannière de Citron

One of the most popular alternate national flags, the design is notable for its tricolour scheme, and skips the red of the current flag. Supporters of this design argue the red displayed in the old flag is reminiscent of an era when Europe was bloody and plagued with wars, and hence is irrelevant in the modern era of a peaceful Europe. The blue in the middle represents the coast and the rivers of the nation, and the lemon is a historic symbol of the nation, representing the fertility of the land, and the beauty of the countryside. The yellow and green banners represent the fields of wheat and the forests of Laurenthea respectively.

Referendum Daily Update: 12 April 2021

As of 5:00 pm in La Couronne, The Old Lemon Banner leads the polls with 53.8% of the vote, while The New Lemon Banner trails behind at 46.2% of the vote. Experts have suggested no conclusions can be drawn since more than two and a half days are left for the referendum voting to end, and the current results are quite close to each other.
