According to the posts I've just read, an anime addicted D.C Comics fan who is likely a kid below 13 began using VPN software to repeatedly spam every single forum on NS, and used discord to get his/her friends to potentially join him (or created a bunch of spam bots), resulting in the servers being shut down after 20 minutes. Is this what had happened, and is the spammer IP banned?

Some unknown spammer(s) spammed multiple different forums with massive amounts of obviously banned images. The servers couldn't handle it well, and it was essentially a DDoS attack because of that. They likely used bots, may have a VPN, and not really sure if the IP is banned or can be banned/is known.

Disgruntled ex-user who got banned pornspammed the place so hard that it was more effective to clean up by briefly disabling the forum during cleanup and then re-enable it. Said spammer also attempted what appears to have been a DDOS attack against the forum once the spam was cleaned up, but subsequent backstage adjustments have mitigated that issue. Also, contrary to popular belief, the "IP ban" isn't a magic bullet like so many people mistakenly assume it to be; IP bans are not difficult to evade.

Nothing terribly unusual, not the first time we've had a persistent spammer like that, certainly won't be the last.

Anyhow, given things seem to be stabilized now, I think we can stick a fork in this one.
