Thank you. That's ... utterly off-topic. Let's move on, please.

Sadly the "theory" that he and the queen use it is quite widespread on social media. Seems Britain is following the US lead where believing "alternative facts" is concerned.

If it's alright to say this, I wonder what the queen is going to do? For some reason this makes me remember about the book I once read about Queen Victoria's rule after the death of her husband.
I mean Queen Victoria lost her husband at a relatively young age -it was somewhat strange at the time that she never married again, if I recall correctly. Queen Elizabeth II is like, what, 94?

His death signifies the end of an era. He and the Queen have lived and performed their duties for a long long time and they now deserve to die in peace.
And regarding all the toxicity that I can see in this thread, this man served in World War II and even saw fucking action, atleast respect him for being a War veteran even if you hate him for being a royal.
RIP Prince Philips. The UK will remember you. The world will remember you. .

You realise many people accuse him of sharing intel with the nazis?
Of course, we will never know if he did or not; so I agree we could give him the benefit of the doubt.

First time since 1861 that the consort of a reigning British monarch has died.

Even more saddening is that he’d missed out on his centennial by just two months. :(

I honestly wonder if those some people who say "he was a warhero, so ignore the things he said in the 70 subsequent years" are also vehemently against criticising communists.

Prince Philip had controversial opinions. He put his foot in his mouth on a number of occasions.

But there is such a thing as respect for the recently deceased. There is such a thing as acknowledging that a member of someone's family has died, and that that family -- whatever you may think of what they represent -- will be distraught.

There is a time and a place to go into what things were said while an individual was alive. But within 24 hours of the person's death -- a fellow human being with loved ones -- seems a highly inappropriate time to do it.

You know what else is tiring? Applying 2021 mores to people born in 1921 and then keep doing it for most of 29 pages.

With normal people - agreed.
With people whose death dominates the news where people crawl over eachother to sing his praises - not so much. It is good to nuance the glorification.

Surprisingly, being born 1921 does not mean you should keep your mores all the way up till 2021.
Yes, it would be wrong to criticise him for things he said in 1940 which were considered perfectly fine back then. But things said less than 10 years ago ? Yeah. Free game.

Well Churchill was a racist too. So should we pull down his statues and criticise him, ignoring the fact that he actually lead his fucking country in the time of it's worst crisis ?

So why should being PM during a war mean we're not allowed to criticise him?

Criticism is not the same thing as tearing his statue down. Go ahead, criticise him, the freedom to do so was one of the things he lead the fight to protect.

4) Thread Ownership. It's accepted that in the RP forums (Nationstates, International Incidents, NS Sports, Portal To The Multiverse, Global Economics and Trade, Factbooks and National Information) have what's become know as 'thread ownership', giving creators the opportunity to maintain more control over their RP situations and environments. Whereas discussion forums (General, Arts and Fiction), given their nature, are not given that consideration, to avoid the dismissal of opposing views. We reserve the right to split out posts from threads in special circumstances where the player or players are breaking rules.
