Am I not allowed to like more than one thing? :p

But yeah, I happened to like dominant women before I discovered traps, and one could simply say that rather than a change in preferences, it was more of a widening of tastes.

Well, I'm not complaining too much with Valve's lax approach to what they let on the store.

I always check the activity feed which does show wishlist additions too, yeah.

And yes, I can absolutely see that you aren't complaining. Tbh, I think I am the only one complaining. Blame my upbringing.

Character Application

Name: Briste The Hallowed
Image

Age: ~5,050
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: UNK
Race: Human, Former
Appearance:
Standing at approximately 5’7” and thereby at a somewhat greater height than the standard human, Briste’s overall form is that of a partially decayed corpse. While flesh still lingers on the bones, it is dead and black, while her musculature seems to be waning constantly. Her face is largely non expressive, nose flattened and cheeks shrunken into the face while a lack of lips gives a skeletal, drained appearance. Briste’s eyes are a pure white, piercing and noticeable even in darkness, while her head itself lacks both the flesh of the ears as well as hair itself.
Position/Status/Affiliation:
Former Mage of Thyria, Former Bishop of Aurora, Lich - N/A - N/A
Skills/Powers//Magic:
    Skills
While Briste’s main focus is on her magic and indeed magic can be considered her primary tool to achieve her goals, she is by no means helpless or worthless without it. Oftentimes the best techniques are those which rely on magic to merely enhance the performance of the treatment, not magic being the treatment entirely, and as such she is capable in suturing, splinting, and otherwise closing wounds. Likewise, the creation and application of poultices is within her field of study for the closing of wounds, of protecting burn areas, and of ad-hoc, non magical antitoxins.

Her knowledge on magic can be considered exceptional albeit dated, utilizing techniques and theorems which are often considered lost to modern day magi. Briste’s knowledge on history is exceptional, though does end some five thousand years into the past, although this is merely a product of such history being to her more akin to the present day. She is learned on the vast majority of plants, animals, and fungi such that she knows their attributes, effects, and general behaviors. The effects of some of these plants and fungi have shifted due to time. Briste’s knowledge on modern religion is understandably far less than what may be considered common, though she is able in recognizing the traces of religious organizations from the past. Briste can be considered adequate with a blade.
    Magic
As a student of both Thyria’s old magic and the Loroi’s craft, Briste’s method of casting can be likened more to Ancient Magic than the Oath. She is exceptionally adept at such things, capable of reducing the time necessary to cast a spell through a more rapid cant if not complete shortening of the phrases necessary. In terms of her style of magic, it occupies a place outside of the more modern distinctions of Black and White Magic, combining a deadly, ruthless skill of offensive magics and necromancy with a predisposition towards healing and the restoration of life. She utilizes these as two portions of the same interconnected system, of a simple concept that both are a portion of the nature and method of the world itself, though due to the restrictions Briste has on the amount of mana she might cast before severe issues may arise the casting of such magic can be considered exceedingly restrained. As an undead being, Briste can no longer produce her own mana in any quantity and must instead store it and use such stored mana sparingly.

In her long years of defending herself, Briste has collected a variety of spells and manners to which to do just that. She is capable of inflicting pain on others at range, mainly in the mind’s viewpoint, though mental magics is not her limit. She is also capable of throwing fire from the hand, something which takes relatively little mana to use due to her own experience in it, and immersing herself in a cloak of literal fire. The production of a toxic cloud is likewise within her expertise, the size and longevity of such a cloud being dependent on her own spells to prepare its existence. She can perform some manner of weather manipulation, though only with a large amount of preparation in terms of ritual. Such a thing can be inefficiently bypassed with massive amounts of mana, though for obvious reasons this is not done except in the gravest of circumstances. Causing inanimate material to disintegrate at range is also in her repertoire, the time taken for such material to do so being dependent on the amount of mana she places into the spell as well as its own properties; simple chainmail will take little time to remove compared to holy silver, for instance. Disintegration of animate material such as flesh is far more troublesome due to its immediate connection to a soul, thereby strengthening the material itself, and as a result Briste requires touching such material to cause the spell to take effect. She is, lastly, able to place a large amount of mana into singular words, reducing the time it takes to place a spell to near-instantaneous, in order to kill a specific individual within her sight at once. The effect of this is that they simply fall dead, nothing more. Due to the amount of mana required this is a very circumstantial, last stand skill, leading her to be cautious when considering it’s use. In addition to this, the spell itself may yet be absorbed by particularly skilled magi or even redirected towards another.

While by no means her strong suite, defensive magic is a tool in every mage’s tradecraft. Briste is capable of throwing up shields to block physical attacks as well as magical, though she prefers to deflect such force to other directions in order to lessen the mana requirement; redirecting an attack’s force is far easier than stopping it cold and she counts every saving as one worth the effort. Simply by virtue of her age and experience in the matter, Briste is able to throw these shields up quicker and at a farther distance from herself than the average mage. In addition to this, such shields can be made invisible to the naked, untrained eye, shimmering in the wind at most, and can be used in tandem with their redirecting properties to produce lethal, nigh-offensive results. She prefers to remove shields as fast as she has placed them, shifting such defenses as attacks come in. In addition to this, the removal of others spells and enchantments is an art Briste keeps close due to its inherent usefulness, halting lightning bolts in their tracks and turning fireballs into little more than impotent whispers. To perform such an act, however, she must know the spell cast.

Magical circles, while often considered to be utilitarian magic due to its varied potential effects upon all who dwell within the circle, can be used in a defensive manner insofar as a semi-permanent boundary between the caster and all others. Briste uses this in some scenarios, though its effects are limited by the in-the-moment nature of such defensive magic normally used in permanent endeavors. In this regard, Briste is only capable of creating small circles by scratching a small indentation into the ground and such circles are only capable of halting magic cast from one side of the circle to the other. Such halting is of course limited. These might be strengthened by the shrinking of a circle down in radius, enabling a greater concentration of magic, of by the addition of other elements to the indentation in the ground which signifies the circle. The most common addition would be fresh blood, though other mages might use salt or crushed marrow.

In her long pursuit of better healing methods through the necromantic arts, Briste has found ways of not only reviving the dead to her own causes but subjugating the living to her will as well. While brute force may be employed through a large amount of mana in simply stopping a person dead in their tracks, a more refined result can be given through complex cant and preparation. Due to their lack of higher functions, convincing a beast to perform one's bidding is child's play compared to a human and thus requires far less preparation and complexity, though this is not to state that doing such is as simple as throwing a fireball. For the domination of a sentient, soul-bearing creature, beyond merely turning the individual into a willess husk of a body for a short period via heavy mana, one must break into the person’s mind much akin to the walls about a town. Such a thing requires long times of preparation and ‘traces’ of their soul from which a connection may be formed. Blood may be used, but it must be something knowingly lost by the individual for the connection to occur. Such domination is ritualistic in nature, though once complete the individual is convinced that the caster is correct in their orders. Full sense hallucinations may occur as a side-effect of the body attempting to make sense of the events at play. To keep the domination in place, large amounts of mana must be continuously pushed into the dominated being. For obvious reasons, such domination is largely experimental at best, theoretical at worst, and requires intensive study for a more complete understanding. Her utilization of slave crests in various forms, often seeming to be simply old scars, is also known though obviously is a skill lessened by disuse.

Of course, animation of the dead would be something uncovered during her periods of research and perfected during her time being besieged by the Emperor of Thorns. Such animation requires a complete body which has not decayed exceedingly far. The degree of capability for those animated dead depends upon the amount of mana placed into them, though runes and magical circles carved into flesh and bone delays the decay of such beings as well as enhancing their capabilities. Briste has perfected this art such that her undead perform roughly the same as they would in life with the additional benefit of a lack of internal organs, fear, and hesitation. For obvious reasons such undead cannot perform their own magic.

Any self-respecting magus keeps a capability for the more mundane magics used to enhance their day to day lives and Briste is no different. She is capable of conjuring minor illusions upon objects which are not herself, such as a harmless noise or odor, or heating and cooling a small amount of nonliving material such as a cup's contents. Briste can send messages to others within a visual range, whispering to them what only they can hear, as well as applying to herself the ability to see invisible or otherwise hidden creatures and to pierce through, with enough effort, conscious and constant illusions another mage might cast upon themselves. With a strong amount of effort, Briste might fly through the air at a slow pace though is more liable to simply float to the ground due to the extreme effort and mana that flying requires. Lastly, she is capable of animating nonliving objects, though the precise capabilities of such objects, their speed of movement, and their own ability to respond to an environment on their own is entirely dependent on the object in question, the amount of preparation given, and the amount of mana continuously placed into the object itself.

As her specialty prior to becoming a Lich, healing is an art that Briste takes special care in. While battlefield medicine, stabilizing patients to ensure they can get to better care, is something she excels at more complicated surgery and detoxification methods are not outside of her scope of capability. Surface wounds prove easy to heal to the woman, the simple restoration of skin being rather simple, though more complicated efforts such as the reforming of bone, internal bleeding, and extraction of fragments from internal organs require far more complicated solutions. More often than not this takes the form of a magical circle and ritual in order to draw such material from the body, to better target the afflicted area for treatment, or in general to more precisely control the environment about the patient in order to allow for the best chance of success. While she is not able to perform full-blown resurrections on individuals, the gift of false life can be granted through large amounts of mana. Practically speaking, this is the addition of exterior life energy to an individual, giving a longer period before dead sets in.

Equipment:
    Oak staff
Measuring just over 6’ in length, this hefty oak staff capped by a small, steel band is unassuming by all outward appearances, magical or mundane, and is a plain take on the mage’s stereotypical staff. However, in reality the staff both aids Briste in her spellcasting as well as protects one of those few left she truly loves. Through a series of runes carved along the length of a long steel rod within the staff, this tool lessens the amount of mana required for certain spells and techniques, namely defensive spells for shields as well as Briste’s more direct offensive spells. In addition to this, it holds Khepe’s soul in pause, keeping her from being further deteriorated. The only hint of that fact would be a small amount of light generated by the steel band about the staff. Briste is never seen without it.
    Steel bastard sword
Slightly rusted and slender in length, this hand-and-a-half blade hums with magical energy. A relic placed by Briste in one of Wyzkia’s great rivers before her imprisonment, the sword is enchanted to take in energy about the blade, such as movement, and hold it as stored energy to be used for strikes. As a direct result, while the enchantment to gather such energy has faded greatly into impotency, it holds a large amount of power within the blade.
    Thorned necklace
Simply a thorn attached to the end of a thin cord, power radiates from the thorn itself noticeably. Once a portion of Remigil’s crown, it has since been appropriated by Briste for her own uses.
    Bishop’s garb
Faded and torn with age, this set of clothing was once the icon of Aurora’s blessed chosen, her minions in the world. Consisting of a distinctive, loose cap, a deep red cassock, a black greca, and a set of underclothes, such clothing now only echoes in the modern Faith with only the vaguest undertones, though to any scholar or theologian would be as clear as day.
Personality:
Passionate, vengeful, and furious in her action, Briste is steadfast in her course. She views the world as something which could be better and, through bloody removal, can be made better by killing the correct people, performing the correct actions, and doing so in a way which does not beg forgiveness. Once devout, today Briste’s piety has been somewhat reduced to a solemn practicality. Should the gods exist, it does little good to shun and spite them. She believes in the restraint of action until other methods have been tried and failed, in diplomacy before bloodshed, though once fighting commences has few compunctions about slaughter. While Briste does have some moral qualms on a number of subjects, such as slavery, she views them to be secondary to matters involving the Blight and the Sins. In her mind, slavery will not end the world tomorrow but the Blight and Sins very well might. As such, should a choice come between either that moral matter or the Blight, she would chose to rectify the latter first.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral/Evil
Biography:

Born prior to the Calamity in the heartlands of ancient Thyria, Briste’s parents were among the lower aristocracy of the Empire. Rich, intelligent, and endlessly ambitious, her elder siblings had already been married off to provide for a vast wealth within the family and Briste would have been no different. What saved her, however, was the tiniest spark at the youngest age of six. She could utilize magic, that lifeblood of the world, and her parents were so very proud, so very excited. Their little daughter could do far more, be far more, could create what she desired. Of course, there was that expectation that what she desired would coincide with what they desired, but nevertheless it was a good thing in their eyes. They hired tutors from the capital, learned men and women who had studied the Art for decades if not longer, and it would be under these people that Briste developed as a person. As a member of lower aristocracy, some amount of socialization was expected of course, but invariably these were always in the formal setting with formal rules, in meetings between families and the like, and as a result of these what few people she became vaguely attached to were always separated by a curtain of formality before they were married off and sent away at young ages. Those few boys she met were forever leashed by parents, groomed for certain brides above her station, or possessed such qualities that she simply disliked them.

Briste grew far more attached to her teachers, to the tutors who displayed a certain maturity and knowledge about the world and it’s many secrets, and some of these would even grow somewhat fond of their student as well. Some became more doting, others less blunt, and the edges between those relations softened gradually over years of study. She would eat with them, talk with them, and as she became older discuss far more than simply asking all the questions under the sun. They began to explore other areas of magic, of more dangerous ilk than simply controlling what was under oneself. They began to explore healing, that delicate art which could go exceptionally wrong with little effort. One of her tutors, however, felt that the little girl had to have some capability in defending herself; he saw someone vulnerable and felt it necessary to remove that vulnerability. With stringent guidelines and the deepest emphasis on precisely how the magic was to be utilized, he taught her minor spells and magics, the tutor was satisfied that he’d done some good.

Of course, the girl’s parents were less enthused by the idea of their daughter staying within the borders of the heartlands where there was so much to learn. They were proud of the Empire, true, but they were practical folk with realistic ideas about the nature of magic. Every secret could not be dug up by a single people and some secrets they could no longer reach simply by what they valued, what they looked into. They sent her away, away from the family and the tutors, to Briste’s elder sister Khepe in what would now be modern Wyzkia, then simply a province of the Empire. She had been married off to a minor noble in that area, in part to secure his family’s ties to the lumber industry and in part to satisfy her as Khepe hated most ever Thyrian boy she’d met. There, Briste learned of magic from many who had spent their years in the woods listening to spirits, in the frontier soaking it up. She learned, too, from those who had lived in the forests, from the more intelligent spirits who could hold conversation to even a smaller tribe of Loroi who had taken refuge in the area. All this would culminate in a child who was fully interested in continuing to travel, in the world as a whole, whose family was supportive of their daughter’s concerns. Of course such arrangements could not be made at the drop of a hat and as a result she tarried in Khepe’s company for some years. During that time, she garnered an appreciation for Wyzkian culture and food, of the rugged countryside. Such a pause would come to a crashing halt with the Calamity.

Confusion spread across the lands as many attempted to discover the reason behind their loss of communication, expeditions sent and lost before the Decay began to spread. Most seemed to be under attack before the reasons began to trickle through between the rumors. They said the gods were angry at Thyria, that the old empire had overstepped what was natural and had reached too far in their various pursuits for power, pleasure, for excess and information. Whatever there was in the world, the old empire had usually desired more of it. Others, what few knew of the inner workings of Thyria, said it fell because it was preparing to war against the very heavens themselves, that it wished that mantle. A wave of backlash drew against any mage at all and the ire of those folk did not end at mere complaints. Many of those who survived that initial strike drew away into seclusion, but Briste, her sister Khepe, and her family stayed upon their estate. They would not run from the foolish and ignorant, that was the stance they held.

Then the mobs came against the walled estate and what little retinue remaining was forced into a desperate, odd siege. Sling stones rained down a constant hail, forcing a retreat from the walls, stable, and courtyard. It was only a short while before the gate was broken down, the manor inside assaulted. Torches were thrown through broken windows, housemaids extinguishing the fires with buckets of water or clothes. The few guards fire bolts into the crowd, poured hot coals from the fireplace down on them from above, all in an effort to try and disperse the crowd. Instead, it merely incensed them to greater efforts, in cracking the manor and executing any mages inside along with their accursed accomplices. In their eyes, any who aided those causing the end of the world deserved just as bad, if not worse, fate as the world-enders themselves. Briste held herself back, tending to the injured, in part because she doubted herself able to deal with so many with so little experience in actually fighting and in part because so many people dying would doubtless incur the wrath of the local lord’s family. Such a thing would not be necessary however as the local head priest of Aurora, a Reverend Melchior, had arrived with all the haste his old bones might muster. For nearly an hour straight, a strained voice exulted to the crowd, to their good natures and good senses, to the forgiveness of his holy god and the divine nature of destiny which sure had rescued the Thyrians trapped there from the wrath which had so severely befallen their homeland. He exulted, parrying each of their rebuttals with the harsh words of his truth, and in the end the mob slowly, tired as they were, wearied and saddened by the cruel nature of it all and by the dead, before then ordering the family out to speak with him. They did so meekly.

Briste thanked him endlessly, thanked him for his help and kindness, though such thanks were dismissed by Melchior. He was a practical man with practical concerns, concerns that hanging talented mages would not be good for the war they would have to face, the struggles they would have to endure, and that it didn’t matter where she hailed from. She had a duty to uphold, a duty to gods and a duty to men, to see that the scourge which threatened the lands of what remained to her family be contained or destroyed. She had to be a shield against that darkness, those monsters, and there was no more time for training, for talks with others. She had to do so. Briste relented to the argument, something unsurprising given Reverend Melchior’s talent for oratory and her own objectives at that point.

She would join a local company for the defense of the township and surrounding countryside as one of their healers before they began the march into the eastern border of their lands. Briste would quickly learn the traveling lifestyle while on the march, though she was aided by few others of the western schools of magic. Students and teachers, they bonded well over that common thread and banded together. Their first contact with the infected beings on that border was brief and brutal, a skirmish leaving several injured when a scouting party encountered a group before being rescued. Briste worked herself to the bone treating the locals of any such afflictions and maladies in addition to the usual injuries sustained from campaigning. During this time, it’s said that the woman came into possession of a Roc egg due to their salvaging nature. Eventually however even Briste would begin to have to fight. This was initially merely as part of the follower camp, defending it wherever necessary, and it would be through these experiences that her initial priorities began to develop. She became, as a natural course of habit, the defender of those too injured to fight, those too inexperienced to fight, and though the follower camp remained small it nevertheless had those sorts of people present. Such a fighting spirit would eventually be put to the test when the Company Verdant pushed into the ruined city of Găcuec, a location near to the border to the lands they had intended to protect, in an attempt to remove the extensive armory there. They would soon be ambushed and engaged from nearly all sides, and in those streets and alleyways were the worst fighting Briste had ever seen. It was bloody as can be, the other mages and her having to barricade themselves in a building while preparing spells in order to evacuate. In the end, those spells failed and Briste would be found with three others injured amidst a pile of bodies both friend and foe.

She would be taken away to a field hospital, in and out of consciousness for days at a time while her wounds were tended to. Briste survived of course, but in such poor health and with a multitude of injuries which prevented her from taking to the field as she would prefer. As such the woman took up a post at a nearby church of Aurora in the town of Jăvi, splitting her time between healing those who came in as injured as she was and organizing further expeditions into the areas about the Blight. For such efforts, Briste gradually climbed the hierarchy of the local priesthood, attaining a respectable amount of responsibility before the town would be attacked by a large number of those monsters. She kept in the belltower, etching into its surface intricate runes as the first foes came upon the outer defenses of the town. Whispering incantations and spells into her work, pouring mana into the bell itself, and summoning to her aid a number of air elementals to bring the endeavor to fruition, eventually the work upon that bell was complete. As the enemy poured down from the hills, as the defenders fled to secondary lines, the bell tolled five times and with each toll did the air seem shatter and crack, snapping as magic wrought it into the most recognizable form of a whirlwind storm. Trees and loose debris encircled about it, a furious storm that delved across the length and width of that horde. It shredded the enemy, leaving them so few a number that the subsequent attack was repulsed easy as the storm died down and the trees came to rest. Briste was found wounded and battered, half-deaf from her own efforts, but altogether alright, while the bell itself had been cracked about it’s surface, disintegrating the outer and inner layer such that the etchings had been destroyed. The attack was such however that the local Bishop had died while attempting to bolster the outer lines through prayer and healing and on the wave of praise and the immediate joy of survival Briste effectively took the post. It would be some few months before the decision would be made official, but by then she was well and truly cemented in the role.

With the power to back her rulings and a steady confidence in such rulings, Briste set to work. She called forward seven of the companies from before, giving them the responsibility to guard against the Blight and its effects, to research into its effects and manners such that it may one day be halted, granting them the authority to draw provisions and coin in a limited basis from church coffers, and naming them such things as Company of the Owl, of the Raven, and so forth. More permanent, purpose driven groups had to be formed and Briste took it upon herself to do just that. These were small groups to begin with, however, numbering only a hundred or so at most, and those who joined them were by and large aware that the likelihood of returning was less than any desired.

The Companies marched off and away to their assigned regions, working distantly from the locals merely by the fact that they were armed, trained groups of soldiers roving foreign lands even if the purpose was appreciated. Briste continued to organize her resources, however, working to rebuild the areas which had been afflicted by the attacks as well as collecting and analyzing the information about the Blight and Decay themselves. She wanted to know ways to halt it and was determined to find such ways. Their own correspondence towards herself and even to other Companies began weakly and would only grow more and more distant as time passed, an unfortunate side effect of their great distance, and it would only be three Companies nearest to Briste which continued to operate at her direct behest. The rest faded into being outside of her control entirely, independent in every sense of the word.

As the years passed, the woman drew more and more into her work, immersing herself in it furiously. Briste was nearly obsessed with the idea that there would be some method to magically halt the Blight, to return the land to its former glory, to finally give peace to those who lived about what was once the finest nation of the land. Even though it was exceedingly difficult, even though the attempts drew blood every time, she drew into far off lands, even in an expedition to the Shadowlands themselves, though never to any meaningful result. Always there seemed to be a bright thread leading her to the next breakthrough, to the next great revelation, though the breakthroughs were just blind steps and the revelation never answering a question, always producing more questions. Briste’s age whittled down by such stress and time, by the years turning to decades, and the health of Khepe was no better. She moved back to her older sister’s home, in part to keep an eye on her, in part to have better lines of communication. One day however, as the years had passed and the Blight had seemed to quiet down and away, thieves stole into the manor and placed a curse on Khepe before trying the same against Briste. She awoke and, without a second thought, burned the thief to a crisp. They found Khepe in a deep slumber, cold as ice, and further examination revealed her very soul to be dissipating, siphoned away by that curse. Time was short, short as can be, and Briste responded to the threat of her sister’s very soul being consumed by something unknown with a blunt response. She took that soul and placed it in a vessel, a glass vial, and the effort of performing such a ritual shook the house to it’s very foundations, injuring Briste deeply in the mind.

She had to find a way to save Khepe, that much was certain as can be, and time was shorter than ever. Briste searched through her own archives, though she found little and the war against the Blight seemed to begin flaring up once again. It was all too much work and too many things to accomplish with so little time that Briste had to simply get more time. With her connections to the church, to the teachings of Aurora, she taught herself the ways of undeath in the deepest of secrecy. She taught herself the ways of becoming a Lich, an undead with a soul and a powerful will of it’s own, and so prepared for the requirements for such a thing. A Lich required a heavy amount of mana to sustain itself, something most appeared to solve by making deals. She did not desire any such thing and so went about the problem practically albeit with more than enough difficulty. Briste traveled the lands softly, quietly, attempting to take pains to keep herself hidden from the many monsters which plagued such areas in the countryside about the settlements. Many a time such attempts failed and her response was rapid, brutal, the destruction of every creature within distance before Briste moved on quickly from the fight to put distance between herself and the doubtless multitudes of creatures which could converge on the carnage. She went, carving into the earth circles about smaller fortresses and outposts, the lands which had featured heavy fighting again and again over the years, and in those magic circles she designed the arts required to trap and take souls. Across the towns, she blessed and etched into the bells spell after spell, spells to keep the bell whole and strong, to keep the church about it standing strong, and even to draw in the souls of those who died within the church. That mothers came to such a place in order to give birth was not a fact which went unnoticed for Briste. She prepared dozens of locations in these ways, seeding them in order to send to Briste power and strength which may just continue her existence in such a form. It was a hard journey, one which left a trail of burned forest clearings and glassy earth.

She prepared a smaller location elsewhere in eastern, modern Wyzkia, too, one far outside the normally traveled routes and areas, and in secrecy contracted with earth elementals in order to turn the ground into hard slate and rock, to draw massive magical circles about the fortress in order to protect herself when the time would come, contracting with them to carve out a tomb from which she could study and sleep, train and whisper to the world beyond. It was a fortress, one which she would be quite content. In preparation for the times when she might have to defend such a place, Briste placed a blade in the great river cutting through Wyzkia to let it soak in the flow of the beast, the intention being to retrieve such a blade when she took to the fortress.

Then Briste took to becoming a Lich, gathering the components required for the ritual upon yet another journey. She took a cauldron and cup from old Thyria, a sign of ancient power gone dark and dead, and the eyes of three beings: A Dragon majestic and powerful, an Erraghi aloof and astride over all, and a Vrepir betrayer of old, a drinker of Strigoi blood. These she brewed in a hidden temple of Scelus, the broth her own blood, before consuming the mixture and, using the magic of the Loroi, cut her soul from her body and placed it in a vessel of her own making. The consequences of this action would reveal themselves quickly as she fell unconscious soon after, awaking a week after in her current state of decay. Nevertheless the act had been done and done correctly, Briste being alive and well as much as she’d intended to be, and the war against the Blight could continue as she had planned it. The woman disappeared from her position as a Bishop, instead traveling about the borders of the Blight directly. She turned from a leader and director into a soldier, a battle mage of one of the highest calibers, and despite the Faith’s reservations on the rumors of a Lich traveling about the countryside they lacked the strength to fight such a foe and the Blight at the same time. They delayed such a fight for the future when they could muster up the strength. Eventually champions would rise up to meet the threat, though one by one they would fall to the temptations of lust and pride, of gluttony and rage, and in the midst of their own sins three individuals would rise to meet the challenge of the Blight and of the newfound foes. These Three Emperors, as they came to be known, were fledglings in their power when Briste drove against the fallen champions of the Faith. She found their lack of commitment and strength in character to be disgusting, making it a point to fight those she could find, often times the clash itself being a series of feints on her part to gauge the champion’s strength and capabilities before delivering rapid, hit-and-run strikes whenever they might be weakest. It was an arduous process, yet one which provided a very satisfying, strong soul to consume. Soon though the Three Emperors took to the field as well. This marked the point when the Blight began to wane in its power, in the mystery of it, and when mankind began to slowly make strides against the former heartlands of old Thyria. Briste would not be able to appreciate this, however, as she heard that many other powerful beings began to be defeated by Remigil, that they were in a sense cleaning house of any and all things of oddity, and that she would more than likely be in the list of things to remove. As a result of this, Briste decided to force his hand by capturing one of Remigil’s Apostles and a collection of their Harbingers, taking them to her fortress and beginning a ritual to sacrifice the Apostle for the full and complete power of their soul as well as a direct connection to the power of Remigil and his crown. Thus did the young Remigil, Emperor of Thorns, move against her with an army of Paladins and mercenaries and set siege to her fortress.

Thus was Briste contained, the grounds outside turned to a slaughterhouse in quick order as traps sprung left and right to cause landslides in some areas, quicksand in others, and altogether turning what would have been a predictable landscape into a shifting mire of illusions and treacherous actions. Remigil helped to offset this as much as possible, working against her magics, though with each and every death the circles about her fortress were strengthened and renewed, continuing in their battle. Eventually, he threw caution to the wind and began a series of deadly gambits to breach the fortress itself, pushing against it with large masses of infantry from below and the airborne Paladins from above. Briste responded by calling forth massive clouds of black smoke, choking many of the Paladins who were lesser in magic, while hail the size of heads fell down onto both the griffon knights and the infantry below. It was a bloody advance, one which led to a full third of the force dying before reaching the gates of the fortress itself. Delving down, most perished in the shifting corridors and random pitfalls, though a group would survive to reach the inner chamber by the good graces of Remigil himself. There, he and Briste fought personally, trading blow for blow. As that battle continued, eventually the Lich tried to rob the Emperor of his crown, tearing instead away a single thorn from amid the vines, while he took the opportunity to strike out and blind one of her eyes. She ended that conflict, however, by shifting the room yet again and escaping while Remigil was left with only the option of climbing straight up and away from the dark haunts, Apostle in tow. The siege ended immediately after, Remigil lacking the ability to push through the fortress as he had before, and he resigned himself to sealing away the place as though it were a tomb with both magic and conjured matter over the entrance before then proclaiming an edict that none would travel over the lands of that battle. The Emperor of Thorns had abandoned the fight and Briste had secured her own protection.

The siege had left Briste significantly diminished, however, and as a result she had to take certain measures. The numerous sources of power she’d developed would replenish her in time, true, but the spells about her fortress would wither and fall away only with a long passage of time. She needed to bide herself, to keep herself reserved in the midst of unfolding history. As a result of this, she collected those many corpses which had fallen in her fortress’s corridors, selecting from them thirty of the finest Paladins and their associated griffons, before laying on them spells to keep the bodies preserved and in good enough condition that she might one day raise them as undead under command. She placed a magical sleep upon the newborn Roc who had hatched in the midst of the battle, triggered by the vast amount of mana produced, naming the young bird Tero. Then, finally, Briste placed spells upon herself to awaken when the veils and wards outside had finally diminished and fell asleep.

The world, however, did not stop as she slumbered. Remigil, after the wars had died down to embers and the powerful were dead and gone, took it upon himself to render what churches had embraced Briste has a Bishop were destroyed, that those who received her blessing died and their bodies salted, and that those Companies she had once created either swore allegiance to him or were broken. Many of these fled to other lands while a few, those which she had directly been in contact with, went to ground in the lands of modern Wyzkia itself. Many towns upon the border with the heartlands featured small, minor cults to the Eternal Defender, a moniker she had earned as a Lich in those lands, praying that she would return and deliver them against the evils plaguing their lands. The Bishop who refused death to continue her cause was an attractive image to many who had little and that seed planted rendered a loyal following to Briste. These were hunted with nearly just as much vigor as the Cults of Sin themselves. Decades turned to centuries and as the time passed so too would Remigil’s proclamations fade into deep memory and superstition. Eventually the guard on the slate plains would disappear and enterprising individuals began to mine it away in attempts to find precious materials. A ramshackle town was built on the outskirts, slowly crawling up onto the fortress boundaries, and the lingering effects of Briste’s spells and circles gave the town misfortune. The influence of her fortress, its mere existence, would gradually give rise to a cult devoted to that past within the town. Briste, for her part, continued to sleep.

Time passed, long ages since Briste was contained in a tomb of her own making, and eventually the remaining Companies in her service passed into obscurity in the mind’s of the majority to be hunted by only a select number of inquisitors and paladins, knights sworn to the destruction of the undead. These Companies kept tabs on her resting place, watching it and the magic circles there dissipate as ages passed. In time they began making inquiries into the strength of the circles, began to poke and prod with what few agents they could send, and slowly the circles began to unravel at their own volition. The Companies worked slowly over the decades, careful to not attract the attention of the Church and the inquisitors, careful to make their moves appear to be only the passage of time itself.

These moves, however, did not remain unnoticed as the Cults of Sin, especially that of Greed, took note. They had kept an eye on Briste’s tomb ever since its creation, interested in the power and knowledge that lay there, interested in its occupant and the possible treasures. Arrogance wished to destroy one of the last few Thyrians, too, wished to assert their dominance and power over the Lich, and so it was watched. As the last few circles lay within reach, as the Companies made their final preparations to restore their savior, the Cult of Greed sent a group of thieves, mercenaries, and a few representatives to the mound and broke inside. She awoke, deteriorated warning spells breaking the curses upon her, and gave way to slaughter as Briste found herself surrounded by knaves. A handful escaped her wrath, fleeing north, and she would be delayed in the chase only by their stationing of a golem at her doorstep, one designed with the Lich in mind. Spells were eaten by it, made it more powerful, and it took precious days to exert her full control over the grounds about the tomb. The earth itself consumed the golem, crushing it and it’s blasted runes into oblivion, and then the Lich began to restore her retinue, restore Tero, and as her pet feasted on corpses agents of the Companies approached the fortress.

She told them to keep silent, to keep watch, once it was known who had broken into the fortress itself. They told her of the most recent events, of the rise of the Cults, of the inability of the Church to fight against them as it was wracked by corruption and foolishness, and of the quieting of the Blighted lands Briste had once strove to halt and contain. They told her some little of history long dead, too, of the destruction of the other Companies, of the rise of nations. Lastly, the agents laid claim to having been partially responsible for unraveling the circles that kept her chained before. As penance for their failure in keeping watch, in allowing the Cults to best them, Briste asked for nothing and received copious praise and wonderment, received oaths that they would find the Cults where they nested lest death halt their efforts. It was bewildering, true, but in the end she emerged from her tomb on undead wings, flying north.

RP Sample: Shared Stories
Did you read the Rules?: Yes
Miscellaneous:

    Tero
As a young Roc, Tero still stands at the size of a large eagle with dark brown and white plumage. He rarely strays from Briste’s side, perching himself on her shoulder, though to call him uninquisitive would be a lie. Still in youth, Tero has a tendency to wander about whenever Briste takes a pause, investigating both objects and creatures through either observation or, on occassion, pecking at the thing. He does view Briste has ‘mother’, and is fiercly protective of her at all times against threats both real and perceived.
    30 x Paladins, undead
Remnants of the siege on Briste’s fortress, these thirty Paladins are largely about as decayed as she is. Whatever flesh is left on their bones is coarse and stiff with age, while their yellowed teeth remain uncovered by gums and lips. Their faces are sunken, flesh clinging tight to the bones, while eyeless sockets view the world about them. The Paladins are armored with rusted breastplates and chainmail hauberks, heads covered by pitted great helms, and they are armed with long pikes, heather shields, and longswords. The mounts of these Paladins are likewise decayed, their chest caveties open to the air with jagged ribs jutting out at odd angles. Their wings are skeletal, though they still fly regardless of that fact.

    Company of the Crow
One of the three Companies kept within Briste’s control and sphere, the Company of the Crow remained in Wyzkia for the decades until the fall of Briste. When the word came of Remigil’s claim, they would be caught in a trap nearly immediately; having been supporting a large host in defending against a surge of Blighted monsters, they were among the enemy before they even knew the others were the enemy. The word of Remigil came along with a very specific threat and, encamped as they were, the Company of the Crow would be attacked the day after both those who had been swayed and those who wished to retreat away had stolen away into the night. Having lost substantial numbers of their hierarchy as well as some whole units, the Company was disorganized in the early hours when the enemy attacked and would be routed were it not for the fact that they were surrounded. Those who surrendered were forced to repent or had brutal, long deaths in their refusal.
    Company of the Eagle
One of the two surviving Companies numbering just over two hundred, this unit survived the Blight by being one of those sent north to day with the encroaching Karaki hordes after their supply lines were harassed and requests were made for help by local authorities. Unlike its sister Company, they did not underestimate the enemy from the start and instead began a steady campaign of luring the foe into ambush after ambush in regions where their superior mounted troops did not have the space to maneuver, all the while destroying food stocks that the enemy might capture, poisoning water supplies to attrit the enemy down to a more manageable size. Such tactics, while bemoaned by any and all who lived in the areas, would prove effective as one of the causes towards the slowing of the Karaki onslaught. When the word was reached that Briste had been named traitor by Remigil, however, the Company of the Eagle had a schism as many left their ranks for less dangerous organizations. Only the most faithful remained among them, many considered zealots and future martyrs for their cause, and these returned to Wyzkia in secret. They did not arrive in time, finding a guarded tomb and forbidden land instead of the battlefield promised, and while many desired to continue the fight as they had before, sabotaging the enemy where they could, caution prevailed. Instead, the Company of the Eagle secreted itself away into a glade of Wyzkia’s forests, protected by Briste’s magic through a blessed church built for the use of the Company of the Crow.
    Company of the Falcon
Sent south, the Company would break faith rapidly to join the cause of Remigil with nearly the entirety of the organization intact. The reasons for this are somewhat disputed, though most suspect the reasoning behind such an event to be their close relations to many religious militants in the area and thus, when those churches pledged themselves to Remigil they convinced the Company of the Falcon to do so as well. They became a cautiously-trusted unit within Remigil’s Paladins, surviving until his war against the fallen Emperor when they would be completely destroyed in an ambush arranged by multiple traitorous Apostles.
    Company of the Magpie
One of the three Companies kept within Wyzkia, the Company of the Magpie would remain in the nation until the fall of Briste. After a peaceful schism, mainly as neither side was willing to spill blood so quickly and with neither side so unprepared for battle, the two portions watched one-another until the Company was engaged by a large force of Remigil’s. Their retreat cut-off by several Apostles and their followers, little quarter was given once Remigil’s mages began to redirect a river to consume the Company in whole. As it flooded the small valley, desperate to ensure a complete victory with no loose ends, the Apostles boiled the redirected waters via a blood sacrifice of those who had betrayed the Company and Briste for Remigil. After all, they could not be trusted in the eyes of those Apostles. When the battle was finished, it is said that Remigil ensured those Apostles were among the first to go into battle against Briste and her fortress as punishment for their crimes.
    Company of the Owl
Sent north with the Company of the Eagle, this was the first Company to be destroyed completely when it engaged multiple Karaki hordes directly in a delaying action. In the Battle of Khimit, they occupied a narrow valley and allowed the enemy to break upon their spear lines time and time again until exhaustion broke the Company after seven days. In the end the Karaki honored the remaining twenty four with quick deaths, though the Company would be later forgotten in the north with the naming of Briste as a traitor to humanity.
    Company of the Raven
As a surviving Company today numbering just under one hundred and fifty, this Company moved to the eastern lands of modern Wyzkia upon the very border with the Blighted lands. They built several keeps and castles, entrenching themselves while becoming known as one of the precursors to the Paladins as they are today. Their efforts to domesticate and train griffins would lead to a substantial number of such airborne knights and mages, these riders acting as patrols across large swathes of land. When Remigil’s word came, they fought against his marshalling forces constantly as they traveled to the battlefield, harassing them from the air with murderous spellwork, and these efforts would deplete their forces heavily. Not willing to risk the destruction of the Company, their Captain at the time drew the group into Wyzkia’s forests and glades to an old church of Thyria, protecting them with magic drawn from a natural resevoir in the earth.
    Company of the Vulture
One of the Companies kept within Wyzkia at the beginning of their vigils, the Company of the Vulture would be fairly unremarkable until the fall of Briste. Having recruited from many religious areas and continuing their traditions even in the service of the Company, these members had a bloody massacre as they fell upon one another. When the followers of Remigil arrived to take them into custody, they found the Company scattered and gone, most of their members later dying from monsters or the inquisitors.

The religion built about Briste in her absence, The Eternal is pervasive in its existence about Wyzkia and the surrounding kingdoms. Known to most as a cult if it is known at all, they are based about the existence of the Companies and their few agents in cities. Through these and the magical influences of Briste as she slept upon the nearby city, smaller cults and beliefs naturally rise up for brief periods; when able, these cults are often secreted back to the homelands of the Companies, providing new bodies to ensure they do not die out, or are found by the Church’s inquisitors and paladins to be executed in public displays.

The Eternal generally follows a theme of worshipping Briste as a savior for the lands of Wyzkia against the Blight, highlighting her as a defender even to the point wherein she could no longer physically defend as a human being. It is at this point that The Eternal’s various sects may disagree; while the Companies agree that Briste journeyed to become a Lich of her own volition, defying the very Gods in the process, smaller cults may believe that the Gods themselves raised her up into Undeath to continue fighting on their behalf, an agent of their will to keep humanity alive in the midst of the Blight and the monsters. The sects demonstrate their worship in a number of ways, though the construction of small shrines at places deemed defensible such as narrow passes or at the height of rocky, upraised areas is nearly universal among them. The hanging of small charms, namely that of the bones for a finger, within cemeteries is practiced by some groups, though such an action is rarely done in the open save for the most daring cults. The creation of small altars is performed by others within their own home, though these are often disguised to represent some deity such as Cassia.

That moment when you keep writing up something for Saeria to say but you have to keep revising it. You guys type way faster than I do. :P

Age: 29, though she doesn't appear any older from the day she supposedly died three years ago.
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Race: Human from Wyzkia
Appearance:

She is 6'4

Position/Status/Affiliation:Former Paladin of Wyzkia, formerly one of the Champions of Light, one of the Seven Traitors
Skills/Powers//Magic: Master swordswoman, lancer, and griffon rider, she is also a very skilled tactician capable of planning the deployment and movement of forces. As for magic well she is talented in several areas such as most types of elemental magic but where she shines is her telekinetic and telepathic magic, using it to great effect to alter the battlefield she is fighting on to her benefit or to use objects around her as weapons, or to break the morale of the people she is fighting by messing with their minds. There were some rumors that during the war she was researching a new type of white magic or even trying to unlock secrets related to Thyria but that was just one rumor among many for the Champions and one that could never be proven.
Equipment: A heavy two handed sword, a long knife, plate armor with the symbols of Wyzkia worn off, an undead griffon, a silver lance.

Personality: To most she came across as someone absolutely dedicated to being the perfect Paladin and was thought of as an uncompromising perfectionist, believing that one could always do better than what they were doing and pushing others around her to do even better. And in her return that drive for perfection has only been magnified to the point that she has an active disdain of weakness and throws herself into battle not based off of value but the challenge it represents. She frequently talks to herself when she is alone and seems to hear things no one else does. Has a penchant for beheading her enemies. Also she has a very notable sense of pride that has multiplied several times over since the war ended.
Moral Alignment: No conventional DnD alignment since she can bounce between Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil at times but she is more often the former.
Biography: Raised in a monastery of Paladins (the Monastery of the Silver Wings), being given over to them as a baby, she pretty much seemed fated to be a Paladin herself, showing an uncanny natural ability with the sword, with the lance, and with magic and took to the saddle with ease. All of the aforementioned laid the sin of pride (and some might say greed) in her heart and started the paving of the path to her damnation according to those who raised her because they did not reign it in nor did they make a true effort to stop her drive to master all of those completely, in fact many of her peers were curious at how far she would go. Growing up she had only one person she could call friend and one of her teachers remarked that she seemed beyond a lot of her peers among the orphans because of how certain she was of herself, how she knew what she wanted to do in life and that passion was off-putting. She rarely got along with those her own age and professed to not be able to understand them. She never spoke of it but she wished deep down to be a normal girl but when she did start thinking that way she fell back on her pride, telling herself to look at what she was doing, what her potential is, what she has accomplished, and more over the years of her life in order to reassure herself that she was in the place she was destined to be. And that if it was her destiny to be a warrior it was her duty to become the best out of all of them.

When the War of the Deceitful Flame started she displayed her mastery of the sword, lance, and magic to everybody both on and off the battlefield and those developed exponentially the longer the war lasted. Early in the war she earned the nickname “The Paladin of Lightning” thanks to the magic of Nina, her relic lance, but soon a new title started to spread, “The Perfect Paladin”, little did people know how that goal of perfection would warp her. Needless to say, she became a notable sight to many, so much so it wasn't a surprise to many who knew her personally that she was named one of the Champions of Light later on in the war. Indeed, it is recorded that she only ever lost a duel with the sword twice during the entire war. Overall she was considered to be one of the greatest paladins the Order had ever seen, especially out of the many Paladin champions during the war. It seemed like nothing could stop this woman who had utterly dedicated herself to being the perfect paladin and she had been called the brightest of them all by her only friend.

Indeed she was an icon to many, inspiring them to continue fighting and leading from the front on every battlefield she entered, as a solid woman everyone could rely upon and could inspire many with her great feats, and as a frequent face on the war councils as a representative of her order. And the longer the war lasted the more proud she seemed to grow of her strength and skill but still constantly pushed herself because she felt she could do more, and do it perfectly, she had to if she was to accomplish her goals. Her drive for perfection in battle became widely known but her motives for it were almost entirely unknown because almost no one bothered to ask her why.

However she was a contradictory creature at times. While many considered her to be reliable and inspirational she was a deeply private individual and kept most people at arms length. Few ever met her exacting standards and most of those who did noted that it did not get them much closer to her. It was a rare occasion when a smile graced her lips and no one ever saw her outside of her armor. She was considered excessively prideful by many but was harsher with herself than with any other. She was pragmatic to the extreme, to the point she could have been credibly accused of entirely lacking common sense, but she placed deep value in symbolic things. Such contradictions caused her only friend to say “it must be lonely at the top.”

Beyond that, well, everybody knows what happened during the end of the war, the Fourteen entered the palace and seven were seduced by the Emperor and his dark power, turning on their comrades. And they were supposed to be dead but as they say, death is an amazingly fickle thing.

According to the Faith and the testimony of the heroes Ekaitz and Saeria, she was among the first to fall, her pride tearing holes into her nobility over the course of the war, only amplified by a seeming positive view of Achysians until gaps the Emperor could exploit with ease were created. She is remembered as someone whose pride and striving for perfection proved to be her undoing with the tales saying that the Emperor promised her a way to attain complete perfection in all she desired, swaying her heart to the cause of evil when she concluded there was no other way to achieve that perfection. That she was willing to cast aside all she held dear in order to advance if that was the price she must pay in order to finally reach a limit worthy of her, that of perfection. Her goals of perfection to allow for the war to end faster were cast aside with the idea that she could surpass it all. Those who remember her from the war or even her childhood concede that she was indeed very prideful and a perfectionist but that she was also someone who believed firmly in honor, was stubborn when it came to doing what she felt was right, was rather kind if you got underneath the armor she built around herself, and had an open soft spot for children, which makes her fall to damnation even more shameful in their eyes. She was supposed to be an icon, a leader of the Paladins of Wyzkia, someone to help guide her order to the future, and she betrayed it all.

It is a massive understatement to say that all Paladins of Wyzkia hate her as a disgrace to their order and a betrayer of all they stood for, all the virtues she was supposed to profess and embody as part of the order cast aside in some mad quest to become the greatest.

She has returned recently and massacred all the Paladins at the Monastery of the Silver Wings and is pursuing goals no one knows of.

Goals: To destroy weakness (especially those from her past), to hunt down the mage that tainted her mind with... something that she refuses to elaborate upon and to kill the hero Saeria. To continue her path to perfection.

Character Application

Name: Felicity, the Last Squire
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Race:Human from Wyzkia
Appearance:
Image
is 5'8

Position/Status/Affiliation:Squire of the Wyzkian Paladins.
Skills/Powers//Magic: Somewhat skilled swordswoman and griffon rider, has book knowledge of herbs and various medicines.
Equipment: Armor, a lance, and a longsword

Personality: She is fairly stereotypical as a lawful good paladin would be in terms of personality, except for the fact that she is somewhat proud and stubborn to a fault and relies on that stubbornness to advance in life. She is also fairly naive and does not have much knowledge of the outside world (besides that of current politics) due to always living in a monastery. The fact that she is the sole survivor of the Paladins and Squires of the Monastery of Silver Wings leaves her a complicated mess deep down as part of her wants revenge while the other part knows that Lidia would be able to kill her with ease.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Good
Biography: There isn't much to say about her, Felicity was given to a monastery run by the Paladins of Wyzkia as a baby, a monastery she scarcely ever left unless she was flying after she was made a squire and like most orphans at the monastery she has no last name. However most didn't expect her to actually even get that far as she was frailer than most as a child and had to struggle to advance and become stronger meaning she fought tooth and nail to reach the level of skill and capability she is at now. Anyone less stubborn in her state wouldn't have become a squire but it is painful for her to acknowledge that she lacks natural aptitude for the skills a paladin should have.

Whether this means she is jealous of those who are more naturally inclined to those skills or not... well she isn't telling.

Had she been a bit older she would have probably served in the war but she was thought too young and too new to the Paladins to be sent out there so she has never fought someone in real battle or killed anyone.

She is now the last squire of the Monastery of Silver Wings after Lidia butchered her way through all the paladins and squires there on the Night of the Bloody Moons.
Goals: You'll see.

Character Application

Name: Saeria, the Pure Heroine
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Race: Nephilim
Appearance: 1
2

Position/Status/Affiliation:Priestess of the Cult of Castitas and hunter of the Cult of Luxuria, one of the Champions of Light, one of the Seven Heroes
Skills/Powers//Magic:
-Flight: The wings in the image are not for show so she can fly around with them and combiend with her other magics she can fly at great speeds.

-Champion of Light: As one of the Champions of Light she is an extremely talented mage and veteran of the War of the Deceitful Flame

-Memory scrying: A magic that allows for her to access and read the memories of other people. She mostly uses it to examine the memories of cultists she captures to find more of them. Though it can also be used as a weapon since it can force people to relive those memories. Of course those who have strong wills or know about it and are prepared can resist it or block her magic out entirely. She can also remove memories from people but Saeria hates that she can do that so she very rarely does so.

-Healing magic: She can cleanse and remove the taint of Lust from people as well as heal normal wounds

-Illusion magic: She is a talented illusionist and thus can normally alter some part of the environment around her to try to trick her enemies or simply for dramatic effect.

-Fire magic: She can command and use fire fueled by white magic

-Wind magic: She is capable of manipulating the air around her and use the wind as a weapon, everything from simple gusts to razor sharp blades to actual tornados if she focuses enough. This mastery and her wings means she is virtually unrivaled when it comes to fighting in the sky

-Exorcism: Given her position she is knowledgeable on exorcisms and removing taints on the soul

-Mind Protection: She can shield the minds of others from the corruption of Lust and other magics that would impact the mind.

-Martial training: She knows how to use a sword, staff, and lance to good effect

As a Hero and thus an extremely talented mage she has a lot of other magic at her disposal or at least that she knows of that I can’t really cover or want to keep hidden for a surprise/just abuse whenever the situation calls for it. :P (really it is because I am bad at coming up with powers)
Equipment:
-Her relic longsword (reference second image for what it looks like)
-A lance
-Light armor
-A backpack carrying the basic essentials
-Icons of the Cult of Chastity
Her lance is the one on the left

Personality: There isn’t much to say beyond the fact that, despite being a gregarious and upbeat person she does not reveal much about her personal affairs for fears of them being misinterpreted thanks to her heritage and it is well known about her that she will answer insults with steel. Plus the Cult of Luxuria enrages her to no end. However she is someone with a generally reassuring and kind personality and tends to everyone with a smile on her face. Among the Champions of Light she was the peacemaker, someone who tried to act neutral and provide a listening ear to the other Champions when they had issues.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Good
Biography:
Born in this world but hated and seen as an abomination thanks to her birth, Saeria the Nephilim Hero is either hated, unknown, or beloved depending on who you speak to. For it is common for a Nephilim to be hunted down and killed by the Faith who see them as unholy abominations. But somehow she managed to survive long enough to be taken in as a servant of the Cult of Chastity as a small child and eventually taken as an acolyte of a very unconventional priestess who thought the girl had potential the others overlooked due to her heritage and she showed to have excelled at such a thing, becoming a full priestess of the Cult in near record time and always being serious about her duties but having a bright smile at the same time that reassured the people she tended to that they would feel okay after she helped them. However it wasn’t all brightness since, thanks to the unconventionality of her mentor, she encountered the Cult of Lust at a young age and fought them, acquiring a hatred of them that burns to this day after what she saw them doing. She described it as “It was something you could feel in your soul just by looking at it, you knew instinctively it was wrong and you had to destroy it.”

Suffice to say a Nephilim being proclaimed as one of the sixteen Champions of Light was something loudly protested by just about everybody involved in this but the visions of the Sixteen Priestesses were without question, the prophecy was without question, she was to be one of the Champions of Light. And thus she was brought into the fold from her place where she was providing healing and guidance to others, and seeking out and purging Cultists, not that such a thing lifted the prejudices against her for being born but she went to work with the same energy that she approached the rest of life.

She generally tried to get along with most of her fellow Champions but never got along with the Paladin Lidia who held a reciprocated dislike for her. The initial cause of this split was never explained to the others with the only people who know the initial reason for why are the involved parties but what is known is that the two had to be restrained from coming to blows on at least two occasions and Lidia almost challenged her to a duel before being talked out of it by the Princesses of Duivene. Eventually it was decided that if they were to be on the same battlefield they would make an effort to keep themselves, and any troops under their command, far away from each other as even those who accompanied them on the battlefield in their entourages nearly came to blows in support of their respective Champions. But one had to note that when they were forced to fight together they worked quite well together and most thought that if the war lasted longer they would get over everything. Their fighting styles complimented each other perfectly and they were often able to predict where the other would be and act on it.

As for the rest of the war there isn’t much to say, despite prejudices against her due to her heritage she proved to be an apt leader of people, often flying above them with a sword or lance in hand to guide them forward, so much so men under her command would refer to her as “their angel” out of respect and adoration and when not in battle she would be found tending to the wounded with her healing magic and giving a kind and listening ear to many, to the point that there are those of her old entourage that still follows her out of devotion. She also would become one of the lead officials in the armies for hunting down any cultist infiltration, especially those of Luxuria, as she would pursue and exhaust every reasonable lead and was without hesitation in her pursuit of cultists, her pursuit on such things was bordering on the unnerving for many people. Despite her chatty nature she absolutely refuses to speak of what happened with their confrontation of the Emperor, saying that she doesn’t want to remember what became of her friends but it is known that despite her heritage leading some to expect her to fall to temptation she instead stood firm against the tempting words of the Emperor and fought against her corrupted fellows, vindicating herself in many eyes. It is also known that she was the one who supposedly felled the traitor Lidia after a fierce duel.

She has been making significant efforts since the end of the war to hunt down and destroy the Cult of Luxuria, making it her mission in life to do so and thus she is never in one place for too long but she often collaborates with Prince Ekatiz as it would be fair to say she gets along with him best out of the Seven Heroes, it helps that her church is close to Xerenia as well. Her anger and actions towards the cult both during and after the war has actually rendered her beyond reproach in that field, her word being held in respect when she does testify about something since most agree that she possesses more knowledge about the enemy compared to the rank and file priestesses and has had a high success rate in sniffing them out. Probably helps that she tends to meet those who try to undermine her word with steel because of how used she is to it being related to her mixed heritage rather than her actual knowledge of the fact of the matter.

While normally such capability and knowledge would make her eligible to be moved up in the hierarchy of the Cult of Castitas she is normally passed over due to her tendency to work alone, her refusal, until recently, to take any acolytes, her radical tendencies when dealing with the Cult of Luxuria at times, and general lack of desire to promote one of her heritage any higher than they need to, hero or not. And that mostly suits her just fine, being moved up would mean less time in the field and thus less cultists to deal with and thus she would be less effective in her mind. She is known though as a confidant of Archbishop Lucia and the two have a good working relationship.

It is safe to say thanks to her heritage she is one of the less talked about heroes but she doesn’t let that get to her, she never did enjoy the spotlight, though she isn’t afraid of throwing her status as one of the heroes around if it will open doors that need to be opened.

"The Faith hates her. The Scriptures look at her with suspicion. The Achysians label her the Deceiving Angel. But they are blind to her heroism. We know how Lady Saeria suffers from the fall of the other Champions that she desperately tries to bury or how she hates some of the things that being a Hero requires of her and none of the other Heroes sacrifice as much as she does besides, maybe, Princess Alexis." - A soldier in Saeria's entourage.

Goals: Destroy the Cult of Luxuria

Name: Sable, the Faithful Acolyte
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation:Demi-sexual
Race:Lycanthrope
Appearance:
She is 5'4
Image

Position/Status/Affiliation:Acolyte to the Cult of Castitas, Acolyte of Saeria
Skills/Powers//Magic:
-Sword, staff, and bow training: Saeria has been seeing to it that she can effectively wield a sword, bow, and staff in battle, though she favors the sword, while she is not a master by any means she is competent.
-Acolyte of the Cult of Chastity: She can use most of the magic expected of someone from the Cult of Chastity along with some of Saeria’s wind magic
-Lycanthrope traits: Her senses of hearing, sight, and smell are far and away superior to the average human
Equipment: Pretty much everything Saeria has and is included in the picture

Personality: Much like her mentor she has a cheerful and kind personality but is only after you get to know her seeing as she is incredibly shy and very attached to Saeria.
Moral Alignment: Lawful Good
Biography:
Orphaned at a young age and considered an abomination seeing as, due to a quirk of fate, her traits as a lycanthrope always remain partially manifested Sable was given to the Cult of Chasity and, in a replication of the one she would call her master, became a servant before being considered for acolyte-hood. Sable passed every test that they had for members of their cult and it was decided that she would be sent off to the priestess Saeria, Hero of the War of the Deceitful Flame, to petition to be mentored by her.

She fully expected it to be a wasted trip where the Priestess would look her over and send her home refusing to mentor her, she had turned away dozens of acolytes in the past and she and others expected this to be no different. To her honest surprise after a discussion and work that took up most of the day, as Saeria was cleaning up after a group of cultists from Luxuria attacked a small village, Saeria invited her to stay as her acolyte and it was accepted. That was a year and a half ago and they have been mostly inseparable, her learning what she can from this hunter of cultists, which suits her animalistic instincts just fine and refining herself more in the hunt, so much so that people will agree that she is a worthy successor to Saeria's legacy as a hunter. Saeria thinks she may be ready to strike out on her own soon which is a day she is secretly dreading, the two having formed a strong master and apprentice pairing. As for why Saeria accepted her as an acolyte she simply responded that she felt like Sable was a kindred soul, looked down upon for her heritage and striving to prove herself despite it all. Also that Sable was probably the one with the most potential she had seen in some time.

Compared to her mentor she is much more martially inclined and can take a lot of punishment in part due to her heritage and the fact Saeria wanted her to take a lot of punishment to act as an anvil against the cults while she is the hammer so trained her that way.
Goals: Become a full priestess.

It appears that hunting down slaving scums seem to be a somewhat profitable or morally rewarding venture.

Alrighty, we can can finally get the undead plague plot going!

People who want their characters to join it can send them to meet the group of paladins on the road there. This plot is pretty open, so any character with a reason to join it could do it
