Anagonian General Election decided upon by the users of Nationstates
Purpose(OOC)
This years election will be slightly different than the usual and if successful will be repeated each time an election is to transpire for my country. The voting process will be public and each player who reads this thread will be granted one vote for a specific Candidate. At the end of five days - the length of time I'm usually away on the road - the poll will be closed and the final results will equal who runs the Confederacy. I will provide all of the necessary information for an informative decision with brief details on the parties and candidates themselves. Other players are welcomed to ask questions in character, though it may be slow to respond due to my job (apologies!).
Thank you for your interest, your vote, and participating to help decide the next President! Readers may comment their opinions via IC perspectives, such as news sources. Thank you also for those who decide to do this! It humbles me greatly at your awesome work!
Overview
Every Five Years, as clarified by AMENDMENT III to SECTION I - EXECUTIVE BRANCH to the Constitution of the Confederate States established on September 1st, 1 AUR, the citizens of Anagonia come together on an election holiday to vote for their next President. The process is simple in Anagonia. Each member-state in the Confederacy provides the final tally of votes within their state and counted according to their own laws, to be sent to the CONFEDERATE OFFICE of VOTES and ELECTIONS to be counted again for two days following the election holiday. There, as the final votes are counted for each specific Candidate for President, the state then is granted its voice with ONE VOTE to a specific Presidential Candidate, for a final vote equaling the number of states within the Confederacy - 7 votes at present.
There are any number of political parties allowed within the Grand Senate and Grand House of Representatives of the Confederacy. Generally, however, there are five major political parties that exist on the national stage. These parties consist of the Confederate National Party, the Federalist Party, the Libertarian Party, the Socialist Party of Anagonia, and the Fascist Party of Southern Anagonia. Each political parties works together for a common goal or against another depending on the votes and views of the citizens they represent. There is a constant, strong competition between the opposing views of each party, though generally maturity and discourse always win over disputes.
Each member-state within the Confederacy is represented by four(4) Grand Senators to the Grand Senate of the Confederacy and eight(8) Grand Representatives to the Grand House of Confederate Representatives. At present with seven(7) sovereign member-states, the Grand Senate consists of 28 Grand Senators and the Grand House consists of 56 Grand Representatives.
The Political Parties - a Brief
Every four years, as dictated by Section II - LEGISLATIVE BRANCH of the Constitution of the Confederate States, the member-states of the Confederacy hold their own internal elections to decide who represents them to the Confederate Government in the form of Grand Senators and Grand Representatives. These elections are considered entirely separate from central government authority and are left up to the states to decide, who will then send their results to the CONFEDERATE OFFICE of VOTES and ELECTIONS for a review of fairness and counting, where therein their elected representatives are approved.
These Grand Senators and Grand Representatives therefore hypothetically hold the most sway in the government. They are paid according to their work, and only their work, and make as much money as they provide benefit to their citizens they represent. This incentive makes the concept of mutual cooperation much more enticing in the Grand House of Confederate Representatives and the Grand Senate of the Confederate, which combined are commonly referred to as the Grand Congress of the Confederacy. Last years election of representatives saw a dramatic shift in the political party spectrum.
Before the 103 Grand Congress General Election
After the 103 Grand Congress General Election
Following the Grand Congress General Election of 103 AUR, the Confederate National Party lost its majority hold on both Grand House and Grand Senate as the dynamics allowed the historically moderate and incumbent Libertarian Party to take the lead.
The Political Parties - in Detail
-- The Confederate Nationalist Party
Brief Summary:
The Confederate National Party was founded by then-Colonel Tiberius Samsus, later the First President of the Nation, whom is widely considered to be the founding father of the Confederacy. As such, their ideals are directly influenced by the Constitution of the Confederate States, and can be generally considered to be the party of die-hard Constitutionalists. They strongly value devolution of central government authority and believe that the prosperity and unity of the nation relies heavily on the success and strength of independent and sovereign states within the Confederacy, enforced by mutual cooperation through the Judicial and Legislative Branch of the Confederate government. The goals of the Confederate National Party are pretty straightforward: They favor devolution and states-rights, as well as maintaining law and order between states as well as fair and equal state representation within the legal and judicial system. They believe firmly that the success of the economy lays directly with the success of states. The Confederate National Party believes in a strong military, and this in some regards gains them most of the mutual cooperation with the Fascist Party of Southern Anagonia, though they still have a majority of opposing ideals. They work closely with the Libertarian Party, whose ideals match those of the Constitution in terms of personal liberties. They have a love/hate relationship with the Federalist Party which includes mutual cooperation on matters of economic business as well as prosperity of the nation. They work closely with the Socialist Party of Anagonia, insofar as providing for citizenry is concerned through various social welfare programs.
-- The Federalist Party
Brief Summary:
The Federalist Party is a holdover of the federalist ideals from the United Republic, though without the warhawk strategy and massive government corruption. It is the belief of the federalist party that a stronger, more perfect union can be achieved by sacrificing some of the rights of the states in favor of centralizing government authority. As such, they generally support any political maneuvering that seeks to further these goals. They favor a strong, centralized national economy backed by a capitalist system. They're basically the party of banks, economic prosperity, and central federal authority. They work closely with the Fascist Party of Southern Anagonia and have a love/hate relationship with the Confederate National Party. They are opposed occasionally by the Confederate National Party, though it is not uncommon for both parties to work together when it is matters of the economy and prosperity. They are directly opposed by the Socialist Party of Anagonia.
-- Socialist Party of Anagonia
Brief Summary:
Effectively Social Democrats, the Socialist Party of Anagonia is heavily influenced by political rhetoric from the Soviet Union of Nodea Rudav. Unlike their opposites in the Fascist Party, the Socialist Party does not deny this influence. Instead they allow their actions speak of their intentions, and through their influence the Confederacy has established various social welfare programs designed to better the impoverished of the country. As such, they are typically favored by the poorer of the country and those outside the walks of normal society. They favor any decision that maintains the democratic traditions of the country and strongly support welfare programs and state run social programs. They work closely with the Confederate National Party and the Libertarian Party. They are opposed strongly by the Fascist Party of Southern Anagonia as well as the Federalist Party.
-- Fascist Party of Southern Anagonia
Brief Summary:
The Fascist Party is concerned with the national security of the country. They're essentially the favored party of diehard military and imperialist supporters as well as leftover warhawk sympathizers groups from the days of the United Republic. They favor direct, central control by figureheads and prompt security response as well as direct interventionism in international affairs concerning the security of the nation. This combined makes their main focus that of domestic and foreign security, and they'd likely be in favor of isolationism. Perplexingly, they are also heavily influenced by the political machinations of the Imperial Drekamythian Empire, though fervently deny any allegations as to such. They work closely with the Federalist Party and are Opposed strongly by the Socialist Party of Anagonia. They have a mild working relationship with the Confederate National Party.
-- The Libertarian Party
Brief Summary:
The Libertarian Party is the favored party of citizens who value the least government and state interference. They believe in low taxation, if none at all, and programs that allow citizens to directly influence the outcome of local, state, and national government decisions. Due to their strong belief that each individual has a right to their own version of happiness, they are the favored party of LGBTQ groups as well as non-human groups. They believe each citizen should be well armed and trained to defend themselves, and support the national decision for mandatory military service. They work closely with the Confederate National Party and are generally unopposed by anyone other party.
