The Resolution of the Italian Question[OOC][MT]

[Polish Prussian Commonwealth]

The Italian Conflict draws to an end. A large coalition of mostly-western states have largely driven Insaanistani forces out of mainland Italy, suppressed the local Maoist insurgency, and seem poised to establish a nationalist-monarchist government in conjunction with the sole remaining insurgent group - the SWA. The coalition claims that the Insaanistani state has occupied Italy illegally, that it has rigged the original referendum regarding Insaanistani annexation, and that annexation, overall, is illegitimate by nature. Insaanistan argues that it's annexation of Italy was within international law, and that releasing it would be contrary to it's Constitution.

Today those questions will be decided for good at Taranto, where the Prussian-Polish/Free Lands occupation forces are headquartered. All sides have been invited to hash out a lasting peace agreement that will bring an end to the war, as well as international observers to mediate.

Just found out something that helps my Spain-Lore:

Francisco Franco spent the end of WWII and its aftermath trying to cater to the Allied Powers and seem like a useful ally because Franco was spineless.

However, the French frankly didn’t like Francisco Franco because during World War II he had been behind the killing of a French Resistance leader and France had been invaded by a Fascist neighbor a couple years prior and didn’t want to have than again.

Franco had been catering especially to the British by appointing certain non-Fascists to government positions to show he could change. Britain was swayed by this and Frankly wanted a Spain that was stable.

France pressured the US to invade Spain or at least assassinate Franco and the US began making plans to, however, Britain didn’t want to go along with it so eventually the US gave up and they let Franco be.

I’m thinking that in my timeline the US decides both France and Insaanistan being on board is enough for this to be a good idea and gives Insaanistan the go ahead to invade Spain in a US funded effort. France alternatively invaded Spain from the North and gets an ugly surprise from Basque and Catalan separatists but ultimately France and Insaanistan meet up in the middle like the US and Soviets did. Spain is given to Insaanistan as a result.
