The First Ohkhoskalite Presidential Election (2021)
In the aftermath of the brutal Ohkhoskalite Civil War, democracy has already begun to mend itself. In 2021, the people of Ohkhos will democratically vote for a President of a fair new government. The Democracy For Ohkhos coalition will ensure the total security of this election in the wake of the local government’s abandonment of its people. Whoever is elected will have a term of the next four years. There are three candidates representing the Party for Ohkhoskalite Unification, the Democratic-Republican Union of Ohkhos, and the National Party. There will be at least one Presidential debate, and a Vice Presidential debate. Here are the candidates:



OOC: Occupying nations will play the roles of the candidates from our districts, running their campaigns and acting as them in debates. The dates for the debates and Election Day are to be determined.

Background / Biography: Emiko Turgenova (born 1968) governed the capital city of Poylaesk with a fair hand from 2014 to June 2020. Following Prime Minister Pozanskie’s retrogressive reforms to the government, Turgenova was often championed as a potential opponent to Prime Minister Pozanskie in a petitioned recall election, which—despite reaching enough support—was denied by Pozanskie’s government. For challenging the Prime Minister and for protesting his rollback of civil liberties, Turgenova was often threatened and faced several arrests. After her first arrest, she was forced to resign from her position as mayor under the threat of exile or permanent imprisonment. During the Ohkhoskalite Civil War, Turgenova was a voice for pacifism and the popular removal of Pozanskie. Another recall election is petitioned and denied. In October, with growing calls for the creation of an emergency “Provisional” government, Turgenova sought an audience with the Ohkhoskalite parliament as a representative of this movement to propose the rectification of the government’s mistakes. When the government refuses to give in to these calls, riots broke out, despite Turgenova’s calls for a “peaceful resistance”. During the riots, Turgenova did her best to calm the frustrated masses, and convinced droves to leave the riots and form an assembly in Sakhalin, where a Declaration of Grievances would be drafted by Turgenova and other like-minded Ohkhoskalite citizens, addressed to the Ohkhoskalite government and the Democracy For Ohkhos Coalition. Today, Emiko Turgenova is a staunch and popular voice for the stabilization of Ohkhos, and the return of liberty, freedom and democracy.

Domestic Initiatives
- Implementation of major housebuilding programs, with particular measures to assist war victims
- Establishment of employer-funded child allowances for families with three or more children
- Introduction of pension and old age assistance programs for industrial and agricultural workers
- Implementation of a maternity leave law which would grant 12 weeks of paid leave for working mothers, who are also to be safeguarded from unfair dismissals
- Provision of a safety net of minimum income for those not adequately catered for by social insurance
- Trial of all war criminals from both coalition nations, corrupt dictatorships and radical insurgents
Foreign Policy Initiatives
- Join the International Coalition of Democratic Nations (ICDN)
- Sell and utilize Sakhalin’s oil and natural resources through trade to fund initiatives
- Allow free trade, but implement baseline anti-trust legislation
- Set a reunified Ohkhos on a path to gain independence from its occupiers by 2031.

Short Biography: Born in 1957 she lived on a modest farm in her husband Leonid for most of her life. When Prime Minister Pozanskie began to make reforms that hurting their farm and began oppressing the people of Ohkhos Leonid rose up in protest. Leonid went to the capital to raise his concerns directly to the government and died there under suspicious circumstances. Daria struggled to maintain the farm after Leonid's death, she planned on selling it but before she could it was taken by soldiers loyal to Prime Minister Pozanskie. The soldiers restrained her and kept her in her former home and abused her, she managed to escape but later found her herself in the middle of crossfire, she was shot in the foot, and almost died, but luckily she was transported to local hospital by a passing bystander, and she managed to recover. Grateful she decided to volunteer at the same hospital and worked there for the remainder of the war. Seeing the destruction of the war, she thought that the only way to recover was to rebuild together as one country. She would raise her concerns with the occupying Hopalian forces, and would make them public too. The public caught on to these ideas and she became a leader in the Ohkhoskalite unification movement.

Given that four days have passed, there will officially be three candidates for the Ohkhoskalite Presidency: Emiko Turgenova of the Democratic-Republican Union of Ohkhos, Alwyn Schlebusch of the National Party, and Daria Volegov of the Party for Ohkhoskalite Unification. Campaign images for the candidates will be posted in the next few days (any of us may also post campaign ads here), and the campaigns shall arrange the date of the first presidential debate.

In solidarity with the people of the UAC, Emiko Turgenova and Dmitry Kuznetsov lead the D.R.U.O. in joining with Schlebusch and Mbeki to call for peace. “We are no stranger to civil wars and the carnage they wreck upon regions. There must be a ceasefire... for the sake of the Australasian people.”, Turgenova stated in a video shot near some of the still-devastated buildings in Poylaesk. This footage, including messages from Turgenova’s running mate and other D.R.U.O. members is sent to the National Party for collaboration in the PSA.

Daria Volegov records a video in front of her old farm saying "We have seen the destruction war can have right here in Ohkhos. The death, the hurt, the destruction. The consequences will be long lived, war is an everlasting scar on a nation, not one that is easily removed. The Emiko Turgenova campaign in conjunction with the DRUO begins to launch its advertisement campaign, releasing its first campaign posters with the slogans “Leadership For The 20’s” and “Future”. These posters prominently display the colours and imagery of Turgenova’s favored flag design for Ohkhos, which she hopes to approve if she wins the presidency.

Today Presidential candidate Daria Volegov made a visit to an area in Uyurgau that was destroyed during the war. She made a speech on top of remnants of a former apartment building. "My friends and fellow Ohkhoskalite, today we stand on the remnants of a former apartment building, the remnants of what once was, the remnants of a once unified Ohkhos. The war brought this building, a home for many tumbling down, as did many other building the duration of this war. We have all been affected by this war in some way or another. It has killed live, livelihoods, and dreams. It cannot, it must not divide, we cannot let the war place us on different sides of a border. We must come together to heal the wounds of a viscous war, we are stronger together, we will together, we will learn together, and we will rebuild together. I pledge to you that I will bring Ohkhoskalite together, as one nation, as one people, and we will move forward together."

“It seems that with other world events, the occupying Akhenium Alliance and the ICDN powers which pledged to support our free and fair election have forgotten about our country. Ohkhos needs to return to their attention and join the growing number of international elections being supervised for legitimacy.”, Turgenova stated at a fundraising dinner on Thursday.

The Turgenova Campaign would appreciate if both of her challengers could attend.

The Volegov campaign releases a statement reiterating what Turgenova said, agreeing to attend a debate with her challengers and calling for the international community to supervise the elections to ensure they are free and fair.

As a member of the ICDN’s Election Security Commission, Corrington has sent a group of thirty electoral officials and observers to Ohkhos. They begin the groundwork of setting up ICDN election operations in the country’s capital city. These Corrish officials, being veterans of organizing Corrish elections, support the candidates’ requests for an official debate, but will wait for other ICDN officials to arrive to reach a consensus.

Arvan Irawer officials arrive and will help Corrish officials with preparations. Our election officials will setup smaller centres in rural areas, so that everyone can vote.

To prevent bias, they suggest that a reporter or official of a neutral nation moderate the rules of the debate. Emiko Turgenova also requests that the ICDN officials develop a ‘secure and fraud-proof’ means of counting the vote. Having seen the corruption in the previous election in which the Pozanskie Administration was elected, Turgenova wants to prevent “the rigging of ballots and the buying of power which has long occurred in the course of Ohkhos’s democratic history.”
