Hellesreich: An Interwar Political RP

Hellesreich stands divided.

With the end of the Great War, the former Empire of Hellesreich was dismantled and torn apart by the Entente. This butchering of historical borders was intended to give minority populations self-determination. Much the same happening to other members of the Central Powers. The Treaty of Ravenstadt was harsh. Unfair. Yet truly there was no other choice. Upon its signing revolution spilled onto the streets as democracy came to the nation under the People's Unity Congress. The Kaiser was tried as a traitor, exiled to distant lands never to return. As a consequence the idea of nobility went with him.

The new Republic proved to be one of instability. The people quickly succumbed to the idea of strongmen with Field Marshal Hans Dieter ascending the powerful Presidency under the newly created Konservative Bund. In that role he stagnated democracy, keeping a firm hand on the Reichstag led by SDP Chancellor Friedemann Becker who governed with Zentrum support.

Becker proved popular with his base, yet angered many on the right. His policies were perceived as folding to allied demands. He repaid reparations and joined the League of Nations. Many considered these ideas as capitulation to injustice. Parties on the right began to form with dark money backing, most notably the Reichsliga and the NVRP. When President Dieter died in his sleep, the election that followed was a contentious one. The coalition broke down and the KB once more won the Presidency with reactionary Kurt Meinser. More than that, Zentrum abandoned the SDP and joined with the KB in the Reichstag, producing a true majority. Becker is voted out of leadership by his own party. In protest he forms the FSP, challenging his former party.

In the back and forth minutia of politics, Meinser assumes more and more power. Political repression starts to show itself, until even the KB breaks with it's own President. Spitting on his former party, the President joins the NVRP in a shocking defection. When the Reichstag and Senat tries to remove him from office, Meinser, in his capacity as commander of the armed forces, launches a coup. For four months he reigns in Ravenstadt. Enemies are executed, including former Chancellor Becker. The tyranny only ends when the man falls off a horse during a parade, brain dead. Under international pressure the army restores the constitution.

Election year has now once again passed in the Republic. And once more, confusion reigns.

Many are despondent as no clear coalition emerges to lead the nation. The Presidency, now stripped of many of it's powers, sits in the hands of Zentrum. The centrist party considered the kingmaker of the next government.

Will Hellesreich succumb to extremism from the right and left? Will a coalition be achieved?

The future of the fledgling Republic is in your hands.

THE RULES:

1. The OP's words is law, and by extension that same power is handed to mods. Of course you can still argue your case if there is a dispute, but once it has been settled that is it. Grievances should also be handled via telegram. Clogging the OOC with negativity is bad for everyone.

2. Face claims should be as historically accurate as possible. Nothing ridiculously out of place. We would prefer actors or random no-name faces to actual politicians, but we are willing to let that slide depending. You can't play real people. Whilst outside of Hellesreich they exist, since this is a fictional nation there are no real people in it's political sphere.

3. If you have to be absent for any reason, we would appreciate being informed before hand.

4. If in character you make a gaffe that is unintentional, you may inform staff before editing it. All characters should make mistakes, but we don't wish to penalize people for not fully grasping numbers in a fictional state from the 1930's.

5. Don't world edit or affect other peoples characters without permission. This is a political RP, not game of thrones. No poisoned chalices please.

6. Meta gaming is a no-no. The atmosphere is dire, yes, but remember that at this time there was hope for European peace. Not everyone assumed war with Nazi Germany was inevitable.

7. Whilst ic there will of course be extremist ideologies, we will not tolerate extreme racism in or out of character. Historical phrases that would refer to minorities of the time should be tempered, and anything of the sort in the OOC is banned.

8. Follow site rules.

Elections

Elections in the Republic are held every four years, except in times of dictatorship and revolution. All 350 members of the Reichstag are elected via a list system, with a minimum 5% threshold to gain representation in the chamber. Universal suffrage is enshrined in the Constitution. These seats are allocated proportionally to the votes of each party. The body is the sole originator of laws, holding ultimate authority over legislation. The Chancellor leads the chamber, usually the leader of the governing party or coalition, appointed by the President.

The Senat by comparison is a much less powerful chamber. Each of the states of Hellesreich are granted 20 Senators regardless of population, these Senators are elected by the people again via a list system. Legislation is scrutinized by the Senat and can be amended accordingly, however these amendments can be overruled by the Reichstag before going onto to be signed into law by the President. The presiding officer in the Senat is usually from the ranks of the largest party or coalition in control of the chamber.

The Presidency has been greatly stripped of it's power. More symbolic than a position of ultimate authority. The main duty of the President is to confirm government Ministers and the Chancellor, and to act as chief of the armed forces. Though that power is even held back by approval of the Reichstag.

Minister-Presidents of the Republic lead the Landtag's of the regions. This position has significant power as many powers have been devolved to the constituent states. These are powerful men to cross.

I'm curious - aside from the recent coup by the army, and the sour taste left by Meinser, what other issues currently face Hellesreich?

Ethnic squabbles, weak monetary unit, crime, collapsing infrastructure, hostile foreign actors, over bearing or wholly inadequate bureaucracy? I'd like to know a bit more about the current state of affairs before I drop a character.

I'm interested to see where this goes.

Is Hellesreich basically interwar Germany, with different parties and people?

There are most likely ethnic troubles, as Hellesreich used to be an Empire in the vein of Austria-Hungary. Torn apart in 1919. As for currency, it's all in a dire state really. The Great Depression is in full swing and has hit the nation quite hard since Chancellor Becker tied much of the Republic's economic hope on the Allied powers, thus the economy is very heavily integrated with the likes of the British Empire and the United States. The Meinser period hardly addressed the issue, as his main concern was simply consolidating power. Inflation is under control at the moment, but the Mark becomes more and more worthless with each passing week.

Then of course there is simply the issue of division. People are desperate, and are starting to turn in high numbers to extremist parties like the ASP and the NVRP. Paramilitaries have become a major concern and its not uncommon to see fights in the streets.

You could approach it from that standpoint. The basis is a mix of an interwar Weimar Republic and Austria-Hungary. Afflicted with the Treaty of Ravenstadt, similar to that of the Treaty of Trianon.

Interwar politics in Germany have always been fascinating for me, so I wanted something to mimic it but with a flair of uniqueness. I've purposefully left the location of Hellesreich vague, but you could most likely imagine it in an area around Czechoslovakia/Poland.

Field Marshal Hans Dieter is the equivalent of Paul von Hindenburg? Thinking of having a Erich Ludendorff like character (in terms of military career), who after the end of the war joins the KB and is elected member of Reichstag. After the unrest caused by Kurt Meinser, he emerges as leader of KB. Politically he is free market on economics, strongly socially conservative and wants rearmament of the country, but does not support war or restoring the Kaiser.

You would be right in your thinking for Dieter. And a Ludendorff type character could be interesting! That kind of attitude fits the KB, though no doubt with the Meinser affair they are a bit more mindful of their image.

Strengths: War Hero, Opposed Kurt Meinser, Popular with Conservative voters
Weaknesses: Skepticism of strongmen by populace, considered too fiscally conservative/market fundamentalist, disliked by far right and monarchists
Biography:

Heinrich Schneider was born on 9 April 1867 in the State of Windorp, to a family of landed aristocrats. His ancestors had long served in the royal military, so it was only natural that Heinrich would be encouraged to follow a military career. From a young age, Heinrich showed he had a gift for history and mathematics. His natural intellectual capabilities were enhanced by the private tutors hired by his parents to provide him with the best education they could afford. It thus was of no surprise to anyone that young Heinrich passed easily and with distinction the entrance exams that would allow him to attend the Cadet School of his state. He was put in a class two years ahead of his age group, and thereafter he was consistently first in his class.

In 1887, Heinrich was commissioned as a subaltern into the 57th Infantry Regiment. Over the next eight years, he was promoted to lieutenant and saw further service in the 2nd Marine Battalion and in the 8th Grenadier Guards. During his service, he was praised by his superiors in reports and frequently recommended. In 1895, he entered the War Academy. The commandant of the War Academy recommended him to the General Staff, to which he was appointed in 1896. He rose rapidly and was a senior staff officer at the headquarters of V Corps from 1902 to 1904. By 1911, he was a full colonel.

When the Social Democrats became the largest party in the Reichstag in 1912, Heinrich entered into a political dispute with them, as they seldom gave priority to army expenditures. Heinrich requested additional men and funding, breaking with protocol that disallowed military officers from intervening publicly in politics. This caused uproar and led to his temporary removal from Great General Staff, but raised his political profile amongst conservative voters and politicians.

With the outbreak of the Great War, he was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff to the Second Army. On 16 August 1914, he led a successful assault in the Western Front, a feat for which he received the The Order of the Raven. Due to his successful conduct, Heinrich was transferred to the Eastern Front to fight against the Russian Empire, under the command of General of the Infantry Hans Dieter. Heinrich was instrumental in inflicting a series of crushing defeats against the Russians, including at Tannenberg and the Masurian Lakes. Their successes in the Eastern Front ensured that Hans and Heinrich became celebrities, their image further propped up by imperial propaganda.

In 29 August 1916, Hans Dieter became Chief of the Great General Staff while Heinrich was appointed First-Quartermaster General. The two military strongmen established a military dictatorship in all but name, and Heinrich became the architect behind Hellesreich's entire military strategy and war effort. In this capacity, he secured Russia's defeat in the East, through the judicious use of chemical weapons to break enemy formations and then the pouring of troops through them to outflank the whole of the enemy position. With Russia out of the way, he launched a new wave of offensives in the West that resulted in advances not seen since the war's outbreak. However, by the end of 1918, the improvements in Hellesreich's fortunes were reversed after its forces were defeated in a series of decisive battles in the Western Front. The Kaiser forced Heinrich to resign, as the population had grown agitated.

Heinrich, now sidelined, retired from public life. Instead, he decided to write a three volumes autobiography of his, published between 1921 and 1924. The autobiography attributed Hellesreich's military successes primarily to Heinrich's military genius and the defeats to incompetent politicians and a witless, scared Kaiser. This autobiography caused some uproar among some military veterans as they felt Heinrich was taking too much credit for himself, while also upsetting the staunchest monarchists due to it shifting the blame for the defeats on the Kaiser. On the other hand, it became quickly a best seller and enhanced Heinrich's public standing amongst the general populace.

Once again considered a national hero, Heinrich used his celebrity status to join the Konservative Bund and get elected as Member of the Reichstag in 1926, representing a district of his native State of Windorp. As a member of the Reichstag, he was critical of the coalition with Zentrum but supported it in the Reichstag as a better alternative to a possible Zentrum - SDP coalition. He quickly emerged as the head of the liberal (free market) wing of the Konservative Bund, criticizing welfare measures and state intervention in the economy. Instead, Heinrich and his wing of the party argued that only through fiscal restrain, low taxation and a deregulated market would the Hellesreich economy leave behind stagnation and grow by leaps and bounds. His stance on economics was influenced by the flowering of economic works defending classical liberalism among some Hellesreich economists (comparable to the RL 'Austrian School').

Heinrich became a prominent critic of President Kurt Meinser's increasing authoritarianism, though critics from the left were quick to point out that in the past Heinrich himself had ruled in an authoritarian manner. Some argued Heinrich's opposition stemmed because he couldn't stand being a sidelined figure rather than due to any real commitment to parliamentary democracy. Nevertheless, Heinrich's break with reactionary far right allowed him to establish himself as a defender of the democratic order and a leader of the respectable center-right. When Meinser established his dictatorship, Heinrich was confined and placed under house arrest. His war hero status, however, meant that he was spared of execution or formal imprisonment.

When Meinser was deposed and the Republic was restored, Heinrich was unanimously elected to the office of Party Leader of the Konservative Bund, as unlike other conservatives he had stood up prominently to the tyrant and because his status as war hero would give positive name recognition to a party that was blamed for Meinser's tyranny. Heinrich turned the Konservative Bund into a more free market direction; he blasted state interventionism and welfare benefits proposed by the left, argued for fiscal conservatism and tax cuts, and became champion of further devolution of power from the central government to the states. On social issues, Heinrich argued that the Republic would enter into terminal decline if it did not upend the 'social degeneracy' of the roaring twenties and return to 'good, moral traditional Christian values'. On foreign policy, Heinrich argued against any 'fantasies', as he called them, of expansionism or restoration of the prewar borders, but the same time proposed rearmament and building up Hellesreich's military to defend national sovereignty. On the issue of government, he rejected any possible return of the Kaiser and instead argued for a limited, liberal government. At the same time, though, he stated that the central government should crack down on communist and ultranationalist paramilitaries, while also calling for the Arbeiter-Solidaritäts-Partei and other far left parties to be banned in the name of 'social peace'.

Now, as leader of KB, he hopes that the next government will be led by him. He believes that he can become Chancellor in coalition with the Zentrum Party and the Reichsliga, though his staunch fiscal conservativism risks alienating the Zentrum party and his bad blood with the staunchest of monarchists risks upsetting coalition talks with the Reichsliga.

Looks good! Just a couple of things. Could you perhaps develop him a bit more in the war years? His history very much matches that of Ludendorff, and it might add a bit more flavour for some uniqueness. Other than that just some minor inaccuracies that would be admittedly hard to tell. Meinser is not dead, simply brain dead, he was tried but the court accepted that he was hardly in a position to defend himself so was put under house arrest. I would also change the medal that he earned, since that is a German medal, perhaps to something more local. An example would be "The Order of the Raven." Unless of course it was awarded by the Germans as allies.

With those things, I would be willing to accept!

Character Nation/State of Origin: Free City of Ravenstadt
Character Party Affiliation: SDP
Strengths: Experienced, Pragmatic and Formidable
Weaknesses: Being a woman in a mans world, Disunited Party, Stubborn

Biography:
Elisabeth was born during the height of the Empire in the beating heart of the nation, Ravenstadt. Her parents were old and established nobility, perhaps of a minor rank but enough to give their young child a head start in life. She did not see much of her father, the man being one of the high seas and military command, in his stead Elisabeth was raised by her mother and nanny. It was evident from an early age the role she was supposed to play, one of a homemaker and mother, having been taught how to stitch and the like. She despised that vision.

Her education was spent in Berlin, in a rather expensive finishing school. Though she remained disinterested in such affairs, and upon her return to Hellesreich she began her career in earnest, writing for the Ravenstadt Chronicle. Using her name and influence to force her way in, much to the chagrin of her family and the newspaper itself.

She proved herself effective, though somewhat radical. In her early days most of her material was censored or simply disregarded for its anti-monarchal rhetoric. At this time she flirted with the far-left, even joining with the then fledgling underground ASP. When the war came, however, she left their ranks and moderated her tone, believing that it was her duty to help the nation through the crisis, not simply stir trouble.

Of course this led to a reputation as a bootlicker, but she still stood firm in her criticisms and her reprieve both.

By 1919 her name was formidable, and it saw her invited to the People’s Unity Congress by Friederman Becker. Something she gladly accepted.

There she argued for a fully democratic system, winning many arguments as the constitution took form and earning the respect of many there. When the government was formed she quickly found herself in the SDP ranks, becoming but one of a small handful of female members of the Reichstag.

When Becker secured a majority in 1926, Elisabeth became the Minister of Reconstruction, the first female Minister in Hellesreich history. In her role she pursued programs that were wide ranging, often bombastically hijacking other departments under the banner of “reconstruction.” Pushing for a welfare state, workers rights and trade union representation. Projecting her authority over the cabinet.

When the coalition fell, she felt somewhat sympathetic for Becker. Supporting him in the leadership contest. Yet, when he left the party upon his defeat, she would not follow him. For her his path was one of cowardice. Of personal ego over pragmatic politics, pursuing a move that would only embolden their political rivals. She was happy to say that to his face.

Following the defection, and with the rise of Meinser, she took a more active role in the leadership. When he assumed power as a dictator, she had no choice but to flee underground. She mourned for her old friend when she heard the news, though her resolve never broke.

In those brief few months she tried all she could to unite the left into a tangible opposition, even briefly working with the ASP, but luckily nothing came to pass. Meinser toppled himself.

Now, in the aftermath, Elisabeth has assumed the leadership of the party. Leading it in the elections. Emerging as the second largest party, if only just, was considered a good job in her book, considering circumstances. Now she seeks to form a governing coalition, one that can finally move the damn nation forward.

- 1920 (aged 33) Worked under Friedemann Becker as council, privy to many of his dealings and strategy meetings. He makes sure to laud the recovering efforts of the SDP.
- 1923 (aged 36) Follows Becker in creating the FSP - cautious and worried at the rising Right.
- 1926 (aged 39) The death of Becker shocks Paskal, and he takes the role of FSP Leader reluctantly, working underground in revolt.

Appearance: Image
Character Nation/State of Origin: Hellesreich, Ravenstadt - originally born in Windorp
Character Party Affiliation: FSP
Strengths: excellent writer, socially aware, reasonable, loyal
Weaknesses: reluctant, distracted, non-confrontational

Biography: Pascal was born in the city of Lichterstadt, in Windorp to a precious set of parents that made sure he had all the freedom he needed to do what he wished when he wished - yet would learn the consequences of his actions in those freemade decisions. A young and ambitious boy he read extensively, curious about anything and everything - and in his isolation, became somewhat dismissive on the ideas of others and developed his own little ego-kingdom. This false regard quickly stumbled as he came into contact with the writings of Friedemann Becker, a man who was his eternal hero - especially post his death. Enamoured with his writing Paskal consumed every bit of writing he could find of the man, and then the writing of those who challenged him - growing extremely fond of the voices that called in political theatre.

His early occupation with power had him keenly keyed in on the goings on of the world, building comprehension and challenging the misgivings of eternity - learning early on that nothing lasts forever and that the things that would claim to be so - were blind the the signs of the end. Learning these signs he kept an eye on them - seeing them everywhere in the decline of empires and heroes alike. Having moved with his parents to Ravenstadt, he made every effort to find work, wanting money - and then when he found money to be a wasteful thing - he worked for favour. He wanted one thing and one thing only - finding something he hoped would draw the attention of his hero - writing on it, and working himself to near exhaustion in order to get it published. The coy smirks and the rolled eyes and the patronising comments were eaten with a grin as eventually he convinced his employer - and then he waited. And waited. No letter came.

He would need to work harder.

The world becoming an extremely complex and difficult place to live in, he set off to Kaiser Ludwig University in Neunstadt where he studied politics, journalism and philosophy. When Becker came to teach there, Paskal took it as a sign. When Becker noted that he liked his writing - he took it as confirmation. The two wrote letters extensively on all manner of events - praising and damning in equal measure. The man became a distant tutor of his,and Paskal followed every word the other had - viciously defending him and quietly chastising him when appropriate. The relationship of Mentor and - for lack of a better word - devotee grew over the years, and none celebrated the victories of Becker more.

And none challenged and denounced his defeats more either.

The FSP was and remains to the day - a challenge. The voice that decries the willing stagnation of reason and growth. It challenges the voice of discord that rises when misfortune is seen as opportunity by the morally corrupt and the vile. When Becker was pushed from his position because of a chaos designed to undermine him - Paskal went with.

He went with him. And then Becker was killed not a few years later… because of the moral failure of so many of their former allies. Because of the rising right and the disgusting grab for power that undermined an undeniable path towards stability and dignity. Because a few put ego ahead of reason. Now the leader in shoes he is not sure he can fill, Paskal spent his years first working to undermine and then to celebrate the fall of Meinser - and now stands once more, to right the path left for him.

Corrected the mistakes and edited the war section. In Italics the new part:

Could expand it further but I am a bit unsure of the geographical situation due to Hellesreich not being a RL country and also of my mediocre knowledge of WWI tactics.

Character Nation / State of Origin: State of Mittersee
Character Party Affiliation: Reichsliga
Strengths: Public Celebrity, Well Connected, Scandal-Free.
Weaknesses: Unclear Beliefs, Inexperienced Politician, Easily Swayed.

Biography:
Born in the State of Mittersee not far outside of its capital city of Lebenstadt, Remus Volk’s family had been farmers of not much note or social standing. His youth had been spent primarily tending to the fields, and looking after the family farm, however rather than being subjected to this perpetual agricultural lifestyle, his father had managed to pull a few strings with an influential friend, allowing Remus to be enrolled in the Imperial Naval Academy at Ravenstadt.

It was here that Remus became notable merely for how completely unremarkable he was. Whilst he was not an abject failure, it was clear that he did not excel at his studies, leaving behind no lasting legacy, nor any lingering impressions with his instructors and tutors. When he became a Commissioned Officer, he adopted a rather junior position in the naval forces, and there are very few people who could look back and recall either serving with, or under him.

This was a truth that had remained consistent throughout the majority of Remus’ naval service, right up until the outbreak of the great war, where he was stationed in the Mediterranean with the punitive and outdated Hellesreich fleet, serving under the command of Admiral Alfred von Vetter. Early naval confrontation was very limited, and consisted primarily of patrolling the coastline for the incursion of any French or British ships, however the entry of the Kingdom of Italy into the war in 1915 saw an increased level of action.

Battles along the coast of Italy proved incredibly disastrous for the combined forces of the allied Navies of Austria and Hellesreich, and a naval battle outside of the city of Ancona saw nearly a dozen Hellesreicher vessels sunk, and the capture of Admiral von Vetter. It was following this period that Remus took a more active role in administering what remained of the greatly diminished naval forces, employing a less outwardly aggressive and more evasive approach.

In truth, with the limited scale and budget of the Imperial Navy, there was little that could be achieved, and in terms of the overall war effort, Remus’ exploits in the Mediterranean contributed very little. Despite this, reports sent back to the mainland regarding daring tales of brave Hellesreicher privateers quite quickly started to grow more and more exaggerated with each reprinting in the press, and soon Remus became a media sweetheart. Standard hit and run tactics were soon sensationalised into viking-esque raids in an attempt to build morale of troops, and report upon tales of success, and a legend was built up surrounding a certain mild mannered naval officer which helped to construct the visage of a man which was not entirely accurate.

After a successful bombardment off the island of Sicily, which saw the occupation of the City of Messina for a period of nine days, Remus was called back to Ravenstadt to officially be honoured by the Kaiser himself. Here he was ennobled as 'von Volk', and officially granted the commission of Admiral, even if that title was mostly ceremonial. By this point however, the war had already began to turn against Hellesreich’s favour, and despite this attempt to keep morale high, it wasn’t long before the war was over and Hellesreich was put on the chopping block by allied powers.

It was in the peace deal at the Treaty of Ravenstadt that Hellesreich was forced to scuttle all of their ships, not that they would need them anymore given the confiscation of their coastline. Without a navy, Remus resigned his commission to live a civilian lifestyle, however the celebrity which he had acquired during the war had certainly gone to the head of a man who had previously grown accustomed to being ignored.

Politics seemed to be the next logical step for a man such as himself, and given his newfound notoriety, he found moderate success. Initially he hadn’t hoped to aim very high, running for the position of Mayor in his home city of Lebenstadt as an independent candidate, however it wasn’t long before he was approached by several offers for party affiliation.

Previously, Remus had not been an overly ideological man, however now that he was in the public spotlight, that changed, and he was forced to evaluate what it was that he actually believed in. In the end, it was the newly created Reichsliga Party which won him over with their commitment to traditional values and their promise to return the Kaiser to his rightful throne. With the party still in its infancy at the time of his joining, it seemed only natural that he should be adopted as their public face: a respected figure in public life.

Remus did not participate in the coup of General Meinser, however they did meet on cordial terms upon a single occasion during Meinser’s leadership, though it was reported that the two of them did not get along on a personal level.

With election year coming and going, Remus had left his Mayoral post and instead poised himself in the Reichstag in order to make more substantial change to the nation, though his true beliefs still remain up in the air to many of his supporters, even if his ambitions seem clear.

Other Info:
Married with two children.

Biography:
Ivan Vorster was born on July 6, 1884 to a well to do middle class family in the State of Windorp. His father owned a corner store under the loft in which they lived, the store would provide as a stable source of income for the family and Ivan would have a comfortable childhood growing up. Ivan would often do chores and putting in long hours to help the family business. In school he would prove to be a good and obedient student, proving a talent in language arts and an interest in history and politics. His family was rather content with life supporting the Kaiser and his regime, and putting their trust in them.

In 1902 when Ivan turned 18 he would be conscripted to serve in the military and would find that he would fit in quite well, with his obedience in childhood transferring over to his military career with ease. The physical demands of the military would be met by Ivan, with the work in the family business again transferring over to the military. He would often be held up by officers an example for the rest of the group, with his obedience and hard work. But after five years in the military he thought that such a life was not for him and he would be transferred to the reserves.

He would return to Windorp in 1907 where he would attend a local university learning journalism, graduating in 1911. He would begin writing for a local newspaper about commerce and business, something he would have known with his family having their own business. At first this was a task he cover with passion, supporting business-friendly policies that promoted commerce and business. But as he covered more controversial topics and saw the side of workers and poorer citizens, he began to empathize with them and by the time the Great War rolled around in 1914 he began to feel an emptiness in covering the affairs of the rich.

When the Great War broke in 1914 being on the reserves he was called into service. He would serve on the trenches of the western front, and unlike his previous stint in the military he found that it was a life he would hate. As the war dragged on and resources depleted, along with many soldiers the mood and moral of Ivan went down. He found himself thinking about deserting the military, due to the unhuman conditions he had to live in. He became dreary of life on in the trenches and found himself slacking and being inefficient, and was reprimanded by superiors on multiple occasions. When an armistice was announced on November 11, 1918, he would all too relived and would soon be discharged from the military and return to Windorp.

When he returned to Windorp he would continue to work for the local newspaper, but would take on a whole new position. Discontent with covering Commerce, and with the war experience under him, he begins writing about international affairs. In this new position he begins advocating for moderation and negotiation with the Entente, and became a advocate for working with the Entente. When the Treaty of Ravenstadt was announced, Vorster was denounced by many. But he would continue advocating for working with the Entente within the provisions of the treaty. He faced pushback and was denounced and threatened by many, who believed that the treaty was unfair, but he would continue to hold his position and carry on with it.

In 1922 Vorster would run for and be elected to the Reichstag in the Sozialdemokratische Partei. In the Reichstag he would advocate for social supports for poorer citizens and integration and working with the Entente. He would work for better working conditions and fairer pay for workers. But he wouldn't be a very public figure, working behind the scenes to make deals and get legislation passed.

When Friederman Becker secured a majority and became Chancellor in 1926 seeing Vorster's past views on foreign affairs and commerce, which were very much in line with his own. Becker would appoint Vorster first as Assistant Minister of Trade in 1926, and then Minister of Trade in 1928. In these positions he would make Hellesreich get closer to the Entente integrating the economies of Hellesreich and the Entente, making them very interconnected and reliant on the Entente. He would also make it easier for markets to run freely within Hellesreich, advocating for Free Trade, and allowing foreign companies to do business in Hellesreich, and would earn a reputation as a more moderate member of the SDP.

When the coalition fell, Vorster did all that he could to try to piece it back together, and backed Becker through the process. But when Becker left the party, being a more moderate member, he stayed within the party. When Kurt Meinser came to power, Vorster would try to force him out behind the scenes and through political means. But as he gained more power and the efforts failed, he went on the streets and protested, for two weeks straight, he was by no means a major figure, but he made headlines when he was violently arrested. International pressure mounts for Vorster to be released, given his close position with the international community, but no release comes. He is tried on three occasions, but many are reluctant to convict him. After a month he is finally convicted and sentenced to death, but Meinser would fall from power before an execution could take place.

After he is released he becomes the Deputy Leader of the SDP, a moderate and internationalist figure, famous for protesting the authoritarian rule of Kurt Meinser.

Other Info: Ivan Vorster is married to Helen Vorster (nee: Orvastal) she is from a family of merchants. They have two children together Gustav and Simon.

Character Nation/State of Origin: State of Dollenberg
Character Party Affiliation: Nationale Volks Republikanisch Partei
Strengths: War Hero, Manipulative, Rich
Weaknesses: Stutterer, Extremist, Paranoid, Old supporter of Meinser
Biography: Born to an old noble family in Dollenberg, Maximilian Meltor was given a privileged upbringing, when he was 10 his mother died, leaving Meltor in the care of his militarist father, when the Empire got involved in the Great War, Meltor was conscripted into the armed forces, earning him the rank of general.

When the war ended, Meltor was fortunate enough to hold on to his position as general, He despise the new Republic for it's corruption and weakness, along with it's political violence, He supported President Meinser, serving him as his Minister of Defence, handling his purges and other atrocities committed by the Meinser Administration.

Now with Melmer gone, Meltor has replaced him as head of the NVRP, and won't rest until he has brought back the old order, and reclaim the Empire that was lost.

Other Info: Meltor is currently in prison for the injustices he committed under Meinser.

I have read and accept the rules of the roleplay: New Mordka

Evening - I am going to be very direct here just to be safe. This CS is a bit of a mess. We are already in talks with someone to play the leader of the NVRP and if this had been something spectacular we might have been able to reconsider and perhaps work you in there - but as it stands there are immense concerns as to the quality and thoroughness of what you presented here. Starting with the general coding - we don't ask for much - but we would like for it to be somewhat considered and presentable. Grammar and coding included. This is more than just wanting it to be presentable - it also allows for quick reference and overall presentation and accessibility for newcomers and those seeking to reference in character. Then there is the character themselves - they are woefully underweight - even when stating that they are 50.75 KG instead of grams. The image does not work and the one that I found that might be linked with it - does not convey that they are sickly and frail - and nothing in your description says that either. As for personality - while many of these things are bog standard for this kind of character - what is presented here is basically a checklist of standard fascist fare. And we would very much like for something a bit - better? Something a shade more refined and considered. And even then - just more in general. This is kinda thin... no pun intended. So, while we can invite you to reconsider - the role you picked will not be available for you - and if you want to take another, this will all have to be reworked either way. I wish you the best of luck whether you choose to stay on or not.

And if you need any help or have any further concerns we are happy to help.
