Soviet Premier League 2019-20
Soviet Premier League is the top level of the Soviet football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation, with the three lowest-placed teams at the end of each season relegated to the Soviet Football League and replaced by the top two teams and a play-off winner in that division. Seasons typically run from November to August with each team playing 38 matches (playing all 19 other teams both home and away). However, the 2019-20 season began in December due to the 2018-19 season being postponed for a few months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The season is expected to run till September ,2020.

The SPL so far has been absolutely unpredictable.Previous year champions,Hepley United FC,are reeling in the 12th position,with only 3 wins to their name.East Rowling FC have been almost unstoppable,with 7 wins and 21 points.The biggest surprise,however,have been Gretergrad Sporting Club.The team which barely avoided relegation last season,by finishing in the 17th position,are now in the 4th position in the table,with 5 wins,1 draw and 2 losses.The main architect of Greter Grad's changing fortune is the 27 year old Soviet wizard,Danil Cheryshyev.Cheryshyev,who was left out of the Sannyamathland squad for World Cup 87 Qualifiers,has been a magician in the midfield,creating innumerable goal chances,and even providing 4 assists.He suffered from a knee injury last season,and struggled to perform for Jarrister City.This season,when he signed for Greter Grad,many people believed that he has left his best days behind him.His injury also resulted him in being left out of the Sannyamathland National team,and it has been 1 and a half year since he has last played for the Lions.His performances this season have silenced his critics,and his return to the national team,many people believe,is just a mater of time.Lommardy's newly signed Newmaanistanian defender Davis Browne,has made an impact immediately after stepping on to the field for his new club.

East Rowling's Bigtopian striker Nicholas Tambo,is the League's current top scorer with 7 goals in 9 matches,which includes a 2 goal haul against Brownwidth FC.The top assist provider so far is Cheryshyev.

Derby Diaries,Part 1

The city of Rowling is not a huge cosmopolitan city with tall skyscrapers and marvelous houses build of glass.Nope,on the contrary,Rowling,as a city,is quiet small,with a population much lower than that of most of the other big cities of Sannyamathland.Inspite of all this,Rowling is the home to the 2 biggest and richest football clubs in Soviet Premier League:West Rowling Albion and the East Rowling FC and these two titans clash against each other in one of the biggest footballing derbies in the world,the Rowling Derby. A fixture known for its intensity, it has featured memorable goal celebrations from both teams, often involving mocking the opposition.It is also the most widely watched match of the Soviet Premier League,and is also one of the most passionate footballing rivalries of all time.Almost all the time,this match has resulted in fights between the players,and also among the fans who had attended to come to watch the match.East Rowling,as the name suggests,is situated in the neighbourhood of Worgunsk,to the East of Rowling,while West Rowling Albion is located in the neighbourhood of Victorygrad,to the west of Rowling.

Current league leaders,East Rowling FC had the last laugh as they defeated their arch-rivals West Rowling Albion by just one goal to win the first Rowling Derby of this season.For the first time in this season's SPL,limited number of fans were allowed to attend the high-voltage match,but it was still very different from the usual number of people who come to see the match.Yet,the passion was not dampened,as the 15000 fans who have gathered cheered their hearts out for their respective teams,and even got into a fist fight with each other,at the end of the match.The players too had a rough time in the pitch,with Stephan Chubukov of East Rowling shown the red card in the 76th minute for punching West Rowling's Lorranian defender Irti Ramuk in the face.Nevertheless,Nicholas Tambo scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute of this nail bitting match for East Rowling FC,which ultimately sealed the deal.It was the first time in the last 2 years that East Rowling have managed to win a Rowling derby,as this match always ended in a draw in most of the cases.

Derby Diaries,Part 2

This one may not be as engaging as the Rowling Derby, but this too is an engaging derby. The Moscow Derby happens between New Sheffield United and Howardsburg Athletic Club. Both the clubs are situated in the capital of Sannyamathland, Moscow. Both the clubs have a great historical significance. The neighborhood of New Shefield was built by the foreign immigrants, mainly the Poles in the German Empire and the ethnic Armenians in Ottoman Empire to escape persecution and Soviets from other Soviet Republics like those from the Central Asian Republics, who settled in Moscow after the October Revolution which lead to the creation of the United Soviet Republic of Sannyamathland. Moscow has aways been a huge city with people of varying races, ethnicities and religions staying there. As a result, a sizeable community of ethnic Soviets who lived in Sannyamathland, felt that their own culture in their own country was threatened by foreign people. This lead to a series of ethnic skirmishes in Moscow. They subsequently formed the neighbourhood of Howardgrad, which was inhabited by ethnic Russians only. Howardgrad grew onto become one of the biggest neighbourhoods in Moscow and the Howardsburg Athletic Club was founded here by Vladimir Gurachev. The intense rivalries between the ethnic Soviets and settlers is now visible only through the Moscow derby. Although Howardsburg is a bigger and far stronger club than New Sheffield, which makes this a less engaging derby than the Rowling Derby.

How the Teams Are Faring Post Match Day 30

As we slowly go towards the end of the league,nothing much has changed really.East Rowling are still the best team in the League so far,winning their last 3 matches in a row.However,in the 2nd leg of Rowling Derby,West Rowling managed to salvage their lost pride,as the match ended in a draw,with one goal each from Philips and Javcherencko.Still,East Rowling are at the top of the league,and they if they amange to continue their good form,they will seal the deal even before the League gets over.
Howardsburg's new manager,James Cornwall gave them something to be optimistic about,as Howardsburg made a startling comeback in the last few matches,even demolishing their city rivals New Sheffield United by 3 goals.The team,which was not even in the top 6 contention and lingered in the bottom half of the league during the first few weeks of this year's SPL is now fighting for a spot in the Challenger's Cup,ahs made a brilliant comeback.Howardsburg's Board's decision to fire David Ronnax in the middle of the season and hiring their former captain Cornwall to the position of the manager of the club.Cornwall has made an instant impact,and we hope that he will continue to make such an impact even in the future.

In what turned out to be one of the best Moscow derbies of all time, New Sheffield and Howardsburg ended the match on a 3-3 draw.After being thrashed by Howardsburg in the last Moscow Derby,this time NEw Sheffield looked determined to make a comeback.New Sheffield had already regained some of their confidence after beating Bodrovad by a 2 goal margin,while Howardsburg definetely needed a win to regain their confidence,as they lost their last 3 matches in a row.Ndidier of Howardsburg opened the scoring,however the man of the match is definetely Eric Watson of New Sheffield United,who scored 2 goals to level the scoreline.It was an intense match,in which both the teams refused to leave a single point to their opponent.This draw further boosted the confidence of New Sheffield United,while it made Hwoardsburg's chances of a top 4 finish even more difficult,virtually impossible.
