Krazivaran Factory
Veratuna, Auruna

"Any news from other teams?" Haru asks Kaine, one of his firends at his E-Series team, Krazivaran, as he continues scrolling down on his tablet. He is slightly frustrated that he had to wait a lot.

Kaine responds. "VSK started their tryouts today, other teams are about to start theirs and the one you signed up for - the Nykinoo trials, is close." He sets his laptop on the table and sits next to Haru. "Look, you have to prepare for this one test. That's it, that's all you have to focus on for now." Then he points out all the details about the event.

"I'll go for any chance I have to secure a seat." Says Haru, before slumping down onto the table. He lets out a long sigh. "I'm going to need some coffee... and some rest. Give me an update tomorrow." He then stands up, getting his tablet before leaving.

"Alright." While tapping away on his laptop. "We'll also prepare the fee for you."

"Yeah, thanks." As he leaves the factory's cafe. The usually reserved Haru acted differently that time, it remained on his mind throughout the day. Then as he walks back to his apartment, another though came up in his mind. It was about that.. "promise" with someone. What was it and who was it with? He couldn't remember as it felt like it was years ago. Then after almost running into a street lamp, he snaps out of it for now.

He goes directly onto his bed after entering his apartment, visibly exhausted from earlier, he wanted some rest. His phone rings but he was unable to move after dropping onto his bed. He attempts to check who was calling, using his remaining strength for that day but it wasn't enough. It was like he was too drunk to move although he managed to catch a quick glimpse of the name - La-----, what was it again? It doesn't matter now as his eyes couldn't stay open for long then he quickly fell asleep afterwards.

OOC Note: The following test takes ICly place before VSK Tryouts

Kaylan Private Test
Hwoarang Racing Circuit
Hwoarang, Togonistan

The sun was shining, laying it's rays through a few clouds in the otherwise blue morning sky. The clock showed 10 am as six Kaylan Malaga road cars, painted in the racing team's iconic green and orange colour scheme, drove through the gates leading to Hwoarang Racing Circuit paddock. All the drivers participating in test had met up with Kaylan staff at the team's HQ in Tushlark previous evening, where they were provided accommodation in the team's sleeping quarters. Private room for each driver, widescreen TV and minibar included. The morning had started with a breakfast in the cafeteria part of the HQ complex, during which the drivers had a chance for a little chit-chat with some of the team staff working in the complex. After the breakfast, drivers were loaded into cars and had taken on a one-hour road trip to the nearby city of Hwoarang. While Kaylan did have their own test track in the HQ complex, it was relatively small and used mainly for road car testing. Instead, the team had booked the biggest racing circuit in Togonistan to host their private test for hopeful WGP2 prospects.

Despite the sun shining, the circuit was still wet from rain that had come down during previous night. Mechanics (who didn't have the luxury of sleeping until 8 and were sent out 3 hours earlier to start on preparations) were making final checks on two Kaylan T-160s parked inside one of the pit garages. Malagas pulled up on the pit lane and the doors opened, with drivers stepping out from the backseats. Having given a few minutes to stretch their legs, all the participants were asked to line up in front of the pit garage.

After a few minutes, another car entered the pit lane and parked in one of the pit stops. Xander Mahakipare opened the door and climbed out, heading towards the pit garage. Having changed a few words with some of his team staff, he made his way to the drivers lined up. After taking a brief moment to look at them, Xander started speaking with a loud, clear voice: ''Good morning everyone and welcome to Hwoarang Circuit! I'm Xander Mahakipare, team principal of Kaylan Racing Team. Today, we are going to do some test runs around the circuit. Behind me, you can see two Kaylan T-160's. These are the cars we ran during last season of WGP2 and these are what you all are going to drive today. Keep in mind, these are NOT the cars we are going to run this season. Today, we are not only going to test your speed around the track. We will also evaluate your ability to communicate with the team, manage your tyres, give feedback on the car's settings, adapt to the new machinery and in case of a mechanical failure occurring, your ability to quickly pass information about it to your engineer. Speaking of engineers...'' Xander nod towards two men sitting behind monitors (one Togonistani and one Kassegrochian), who waved at the drivers as a greeting, ''these two gentlemen here are Manu and Vladimir, taking care of cars 1 and 2, respectively. For the duration of this test, they act as your race engineers. They will help you get the car up and running, as well as provide assistance throughout your session on the track. Since we have two cars and there is six of you, we will split you into groups. Each of you get two hours behind the wheel, two cars at a time. During these two hours, you need to work with your assigned engineer to get the setup the way you like it, get to know the track, manage your tyres and, ultimately, set a fast lap time. Any questions?''

With no questions being asked, Xander reached for the drivers list on table and started assigning cars for them. ''First pairing to hit the track is Mariote and Melani. Mariote, car 1. Melani, car 2. You may head to the dressing rooms at the back of the garage and start getting ready now.'' with the first set of drivers gone to prepare themselves, Xander continued: ''Second pairing, Wingelaar car 1 and Tüv-shin-ba-yar, car 2.'' Being sure he had just butchered up Batu's last name, he moved on to the final two drivers: ''And finally, we have Armendaritze in car 1 and Kowalski in car 2. Xander looked at the final two drivers, trying hard not to act rude by staring at Adriana for too long. Even Xander, 198cm tall with a naturally big torso, seemed short compared to 7ft tall Adriana.

''Right, while the first two drivers have their stint, the rest of you, please be so kind and follow me.'' Xander and the other 4 drivers left the garage through backdoor and moved up to 2nd floor right above the pits, where a VIP lounge was set up. A large glass wall on one side, with the circuit being visible. On the other side of the room, there was a bar. Some drinks, as well as some appetizers were already set up on the table. Xander had put down a very strict rule of allowing no alcohol though, as the last thing they needed was someone crashing into a barrier while intoxicated. With two drivers out on the track, the remaining 4 would spend their time there. Xander used that time to speak to the drivers about the upcoming WGP2 season as well as show some videos about Kaylan and it's history. Hours passed, sun was slowly starting to set when, finally, all the drivers had gone through their test runs. In the pit garage, as well as in the VIP lounge, a monitor was set up to show the fastest lap of each driver:

1 Astigar Armendaritze 1:11.648
2 Batu Tüvshinbayar 1:11.742
3 Anola Melani 1:12.008
4 Joy Wingelaar 1:12.049
5 Adriana Kowalski 1:12.185
6 Jerome Mariote 1:12.556

After the test runs, Xander gathered all the drivers up in VIP lounge for the final time, along with Manu and Vladimir. First, the engineers made a short summary about the test day and spoke a bit in general about what they liked and what the drivers could seek to improve on, without calling anyone out by name in front of others. Next, Xander thanked everyone for participating: ''Thank you all for coming today. I hope you enjoyed it and that it wasn't too tedious for you having to spend four hours up here with an old bloke like me,'' a subtle, yet noticeable smirk appeared on his face for a moment, ''from me, this is it for now. The team will provide you transportation back to our HQ, where you can pack your bags and head out to the airport. We will take a few days to analyse the test results and make our final decision.'' With that being said, the test was over and everyone returned to their duties. Mechanics went to clean up the garages, drivers went to do their own things and Xander went outside to light up a big fat cigar. Indeed, there was a lot of analysing to do.

Few days later, the team had reached a decision and sent out contract offers to the following drivers:
Kaylan offers first driver seat to Anola Melani
Kaylan offers second driver seat to Joy Wingelaar

Bitten Heroes Academy engineered by MW Racing Preseason Tests
Brax Motorpark, Brax, Lisander

OVERVIEW
Bitten Heroes Academy engineered by MW Racing preseason test isn't a test like the others. There will be no competition between drivers. We want to know more about these men and women, their plans and how they could deal with the car during the day. We want to know the best about each and every one of those we can bring to our team. That's why tests will be made individually.

OOC: Since we are dealing with the fact that we're with too little time before the official preseason tests, we'll have no choice but to turn back any drivers that don't answer this before March 19.

Day 1 - Ted Pressley
Day 2 - Batu Tüvshinbayar
Day 3- Anola Melani
Day 4 - Katie Edwards

THE TRACK
Image

Unable to get a WGP2 season race, due to not attending the minimum specifications requested by the Lisander Autosports Board, Brax Motorpark is the racing venue of the city of Brax, roughly 35 Km distant from Soria Downtown and part of the conurbation of the capital city of Lisander. It can be accessed through the S1 Highway, and it's adjacent to the Bitten Heroes Grand Prix Engineering Headquarters, so its location is perfect for the Bitten Heroes Academy engineered by MW Racing to host its tryouts.

The circuit itself isn't the longest in Lisander, being smaller than Circuit Grandeville and the longest configuration of AlixRing. It starts with the long straight, and drivers need to push it down before the Hammer, first 90º turn. Another short straight comes after, and the Camden curve is the second 90º turn. Drivers with high aggression must grant their positions before this point because after that, the curves are constant, and a new variant to the right was added between turns 4 and 5, making a set of five curves in a row, up to curve 6. Curve 7 is a simple one that can be done even with throttle, then another nearly 90° turn for the dive. Dive is the part of the circuit that is practically downhill, with a 23° angle formed between the Dive curve and the entry of the Hairpin. After the hairpin, is time to climb again, now, with a little inclination to the right, entering at the parabolic, another high-speed curve that brings back to Victory Lane, another easy curve, to finish the circuit.

DAY PROGRAMME

Drivers will be received 7 AM of the Track Day in the Brax Circuit. The team starts early morning to have plenty of time. After breakfast with the team, the drivers will be presented to the KS-02, the car used by Darius Castellammare and Juliano Lemos in WGP2II. Around 8 AM, after the briefing, the driver will have three hours to do as many laps and tweak the car to fit his or her driving style as possible and desired.

A mechanics' team will be available for both seasons. No one other than the driver and the mechanics' team is allowed to touch the car. A special exception will be reserved in case the driver can prove that one of his companions is a mechanical engineer and experienced with formula cars. In this case, he/she and only he/she can help with the configuration of the car.

At 11 AM, there will be some free time if the driver prefers to have lunch in the team cafeteria, from Midday to 1 PM. If the driver prefers to lunch with the Leinas Racing team, a helicopter will depart around 11h20AM to lunch in Soria, the capital city of Lisander, roughly 35 km distant from Brax. The so-called "interview" will happen during lunch but in a very informal way. There would be nothing as prepared or very specific questions. Drivers will be asked to talk freely about their expectations about the season and the car, and how they believe the team should work during the season.

After lunch, once more there will be some free time since Lisanderian people love to rest after lunch, a residue of the Iberian siesta traditions. For those not used to or not interested in taking a nap, there will be a racing simulator available during the entire track day.

The activities will return at 2 PM when the driver will be presented to KS-04, the WGP2 IV season car. From this moment to the end of the test, no cellphones, computers note-taking instruments or other communication devices (except those designed exclusively for medical use) should be carried by drivers or their accompanying people. Once more, the driver will have three hours to drive and tweak the car configurations.

At 5 PM, the track activities will be finished and the afternoon tea will be served. For those who don't like tea, other food and drinks will be served. After the track activities are over, there will be no further event planned until dinner at 9 PM. Drivers and their accompanying persons will be free to do whatever and go wherever they want in the meantime. As it's usual, driver won't have costs for the entire track day, with the expenses for accommodation, transportation and meals being 100% paid, however, outside the premises of the circuit, drivers and its accompanying people won't be covered. Please take care of your LSiD temporary cards during your stay in Lisander. They are just like valid documents and may be requested by public servants in order to provide services if you are in Lisander.

Any doubts, please get in touch.

VSK Tryouts Day 1
Veratuna Circuit
Veratuna, Auruna

"Calm down. We've come this far... We can't just give up now." - were Darius Castellamare words to Anneliese Devereux, who simply lowered the brim of her cap so as not to see that annoying number on the pit sign, entering the pitbox reserved to her.

"There's nothing else I can do about this, huh? Or... Maybe there's something I can do..." - she grinned.

She noticed some stickers with the number 12 applied in the plain black car offered for the tests, and back in a drawer, a sprayer.

"What do you think, Darius?"

"Hey, don't do this! What the h... I'm pretty sure they will be pissed if we spraypaint their car."

"C'mon, give me a break. I'm a mechanical engineer, I studied all of this. Look at the colour. Bright green is Flow-vis. It will leave after some cleaning. If anyone asks, let's just say I wanted to see the flow of the air in the car during my laps,! Now let me see..."

She opened the can and started to spray over the testing car. Sprayed over the front wings, in the bargeboards, some stripes along with the side vents, and a lot of green flow-vis in the rear wings. As a coup de grâce, she covered every #12 in the car with a sprayed #7.

"Voilà! Doesn't matter if they're going to give a fine. Don't feel obliged to pay. I'll pay for it. I really felt I should do this. That took a huge weight off my shoulders."

Veratuna, Auruna

Ted Pressley stepped out of the car, walking dejectedly towards his garage after the race. He'd qualified eleventh and finished ninth in the race - but it was still massively disappointing for something which he thought he'd do well in. He walked towards his engineers for the race, shook their hands and gave them a smile - apologising, of course, for the disappointing first day in which he'd given them. Particularly challenging for him was Turn 3 - the long sweeper proved too difficult to hold a consistent line through, and he'd lost a lot of time there.

After the post-race debriefing, he headed back to his room, and collapsed onto the bed. Perhaps the car didn't fit his style of driving. Put the car through its paces, but not too much that you end up breaking down. The car, after all, is as much an extension of you as much as you are its pilot. But from what he saw out on track, he'd have to start pushing the car a little bit more on track to get the results he wanted.

If he didn't get the VSK drive, at least he'd try for the other ones.

His phone buzzed. A text from his father.

Hey sport,

Heard u got 9th place in the trial day 1. Is'ok. There r still more trials. B t w Nyquilplugpun Nordkontiss offered u a drive in the trial. Sent the email to me for sum reason. Do u want 2 go? I can pay fees for ya. Starts on 19th...after your last day with VSK. lET ME KNOW. :) :)

Ted wanted to go to sleep - there was another full day of driving tomorrow - and with five trials already lined up - at UrGa, Bitten Heroes, and TMW, he didn't know if he could fit all of the trials into his schedule. Despite him feeling a teeny bit pessimistic about the level of competitition he was facing, he knew he'd have to go for every single trial to get himself as many offers as possible.

He knew it was possible.

He just had to get it done.

Before he hopped into the shower to cool himself off, he texted his dad.

Hey da,

Sure. I'll be going for the Nykipiflugpuun Noortekoondis test.

On it ;) ;) - Love, dad

In the shower, he reflected - was his driving style just not aggressive enough? Going light on a car that was designed to be pushed to the limit wasn't good idea - after all, there weren't any rewards for finishing outside of the points or for coming home with the least banged-up car. But was it possible to change something that had become a habit for him? As he soaked in the steam emanating from the shower, he started thinking about his plans for the future.

But somehow those plans turned into his thoughts running away. What if he failed to secure a drive? What if he had to return home, a failure? What would his dad think of him next? What would Tumbra think of him? He was the face of Tumbra now. One of them, at least. And he simply couldn't prove them wrong.

By the time he stepped out of the shower, the back of his neck was red from the hot water that had been pounding on his neck for so long. Then he sank into bed.

Practice Day Togonistan

Mariote readies up, but an unfamiliar car without training will not give him what he needs
It's all a field of Red and Green.
"Remember Mariote don't attack just be yourself"
The circuit was wet. Perfect, he had training in this stuff, wet courses were his childhood in racing.
And he did well. But the new car got him. Those inches where the turns were unfamiliar Those straights were the pedal didn't work him
Sure he finished down a few seconds from Melani, wouldn't kill his chances right? Wrong. Those milliseconds, they cost him the race. Last place.
No chance of recruitment. "Fucking stupid race, stupid. Couldn't shave off some millis. Damn it"
----
Mariote returns to his team of his Agent, his Advisor Caroline Laderdon, and his Mechanical Aide Fynn Wheatley. "Stupid race, couldn't get a goddamn position that hired me". "Yes, but don't consider that team, we have better news," says Caroline "the people from NAC responded and it is probable you get the First seat". "In a car that has four more fucking wheels." I don't even know what those features are. Fynn pitches up "This car is by far the toughest but it'll pay off, huge speed bonuses with extra cooling and other ingenious parts". "Alright good to know but I'm gonna hit the bed" and another day ticks off for Mariote

Drivers' Tests Day One

The time has come.

The team had all 12 participants gathered in one place, alongside a number of PB and Viska staff who are assigned to look after them. Right on the appointed time, Aldauren entered the room. He expects that some of the newer people in the team would be surprised to see a dark elf here: they are a known population in Diarcesia, but there aren't that many of them.

Aldauren flashed his winningest smile and introduced himself. "Hello prospective WGP2 drivers! Welcome to the PB-Viska driver tests, and we appreciate your participation. I am Aldauren Ginintella, the team principal. In case you're wondering, yes, I'm an elf, and I got to drive one of the earliest horseless carriages a century ago. I also happen to be PB's first ever test driver before I competed for the country's WGP3 series."

"C'mon Aldauren, don't undersell yourself, you're one of the all-time greats there!" One of the older engineers in the back called out.

"And also someone who failed to enter the WGPC, unlike a certain rival of mine," Aldauren coolly responded. Laughter ensued.

"Anyways," he returned to a more formal posture, "what will follow is a series of tests for the next three days. The team looks for a driver who can adapt to unforeseen circumstances and thrive under different conditions. Three days, one track layout to drive for each day for ten laps.

"We have six cars available. Four cars will be out in the track at a time at most, and the rest will be spares in case any problems arise. Our staff here will ensure that your car's setup will be suitable for your particular needs, and we will allow you to drive at most two laps to confirm it.

"Once you're good, radio to your assigned engineer that you'll start your ten laps. We will look at the fastest lap time you can clock, like in a qualifying session. One word of warning though: exceed track limits, and the time will be discarded for the lap.

"Questions?"

Results

OOC: Since I don't decide who to offer the seat solely on the fastest times, RP bonuses are not used. This is also why all three days' results are scorinated in one go.

Based on the overall performance in the qualifying sessions, how they drove the car, and the other feedback received, the team offers the number two driver spot to Indra Vartak. In case it is declined, they'll look at Astigar Armendaritze, Joy Wingelaar, Luc Deschamps, or Skiia Vialiv (in no particular order).

I Got An Offer!
(Written In First-Person As Indra Vartak)

I woke up in the morning at 6:30 AM, excited for what's about to come. I have the TMW Trials next week, however, yesterday I got an email from Aldauren Ginintella, the team principal of Pryfors Bilar-Vska/Air Kalactin. I was invited to participate in the driver tests that were being held at the Pryfors Bilar (PB) Raceway, Pryfurium, Diarcesia. I was shocked, I couldn't believe that a team I hadn't even contacted yet, noticed me. I think I was overreacting, but this was a big deal for me. This was evidence that teams were looking out for me.

So I quickly called Mr Chauhan and gave him the details, "Mr Chauhan, sorry I know you are currently waiting for your flight to Mumbai, but you have to hear this. The PB-Viska team invited me for the driver tests!" Mr Chauhan replied gleefully, "Wait, what?!" he changed to his serious tone again "But don't you also have the TMW Trials next week?" I paused for a second, I completely forgot about that during the call, I quickly made up an excuse, "Well, this could give TMW a glimpse of what I am made of. Maybe I might even get an offer from PB-Viska if I succeeded in impressing them." Mr Chauhan didn't seem as enthusiastic at first but gave in, "Alright, go for it. Maybe, you can get a team sooner." "Thank you, Mr Chauhan. Enjoy your flight!" Mr Chauhan replied, "I will..." I think he saw a bottle of whiskey somewhere. Our conversation ended and I went back to preparations.

Sometimes I feel I am just pushing him around, but there's no time to waste. The PB-Viska Trials are just a few days away, time to book a flight and pack my bags.

In the afternoon, Mr Chauhan's flight touched down in Mumbai. He decided to wait at the airport as we had to leave for Diarcesia anyway. I arrived at the airport with everything I needed, including a picture of my family and my village. Need the motivation you know. We boarded our flight and left for Pryfurium.

Few days later

We finally arrived here at the Pryfors Billar Raceway for the trials. The track was beautiful, I checked all three layouts. One layout had an aggressive track, while the second one had a more technical advantage. The third one was more balanced. As my mother taught me, always be prepared. So I was, I studied the track and made some analysis. I knew what I had to do to put out the best performance I can.

The team principal of PB-Viska/Air Kalactin, Aldauren Ginintella, came out to greet us. I knew he was an elf while reading the news and stuff, but he feels even more different when in person. He had a huge smile on his face when he introduced himself. He went over the track layouts, what we had to do and prove to him and what we will do for the next three days. I was excited, my first trials in WGP2!

On Day 1

We were split into groups and each of us had a one-on-one session with Laura Haukanna, an Aurunian. I went first and did my best to keep up with her. My fastest lap was 1:22.840, coming fourth out of twelve drivers in the end. A solid performance and a good start. Mr Chauhan was pleased as he just forgot about my upcoming trials for TMW.

On Day 2
Another solid performance as I did my fastest lap at 1:39.407, again finishing fourth. Driving around the track was really fun. Till now, both layouts benefitted me as I good on both aggressive and technical courses. I was certainly gaining some attention, which is good. One more solid performance and I hit the jackpot.

On Day 3
Oh well, that didn't go too well. My fastest lap was 1:33.130, finished eighth. However, it was really competitive. Not the best performance, but I believe the overall performance was good enough to get the attention of TMW.

The Day I Got The Offer
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the email. The PB-Viska/Air Kalactin team sent me an offer for the second seat in their team. They saw something in me, it felt good to know that you were noticed. My whole school life was just being unnoticed even when I topped the class and did well in my projects and assignments. I was ignored as I was a village boy. Today I felt like I was important. I immediately went to Mr Chauhan and hugged as I shared the news. "I've gotten an offer from PB-Viska!" Both of us celebrated, till we realized that we still had the TMW Trials. I want to be in TMW, but what if I miss out? What if I fuck up and ruin it? Then there will be no team to drive for. PB-Viska/Air Kalactin contacted me and I hadn't even thought about them in the previous weeks. They gave me an offer as they believed in me, I can't just refuse the offer. I decided to go for it.

Mr Chauhan was still happy with my decision and clearly happy to see that I made it till here. I am making history as the first Pratapgadhi to drive in the WGP2. He said I could be an inspiration for millions of Pratapgadhis, the state of motorsports in Pratapgadh could improve if I perform well. I wasn't just doing this for myself, but for my motherland.

Subject: Offer For Second Seat In The Team

Hello Mr Ginintella,

I was thrilled to see your email offering me the second spot in the team. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read the email. I am writing this email to inform you that I accept your offer for the second spot in the PB-Viska/Air Kalactin team.

I am excited to start my journey in WGP2 with this team and proud to represent it this season. I vow to perform to your standards and promise to be a good asset to the team.

Again thank you very much for this opportunity.

Regards,
Indra Vartak

Looking for Team 4: Early Test Results

Postby Chromatika » Tue Mar 16, 2021 9:58 pm

Hotel Room
Veratuna, Auruna

To say that life had moved quite fast for Anola Melani in the last week would be an understatement.

Just ten days ago, she had been in Cafe de la Mer in Myana, meeting her new agent, Rhianni Gea. Gea had turned out to be an angular, tall woman with an accent that she couldn't place at the moment (afterwards, she had done research and actually learned that Gea grew up in Yesopalitha of all countries) who knew of Anola's career. They'd agreed onto an agent's commission of 12.5%, more than a fair bargain.

One particular phrase that Gea stated stuck with Anola: "This career will only go as far as you want to take it. You're the one driving, the one meeting people. I'll just make sure that all the paperwork is taken care of so that you only have to worry about the racing."

So, she had tried to grab the opportunity by its horns, to mixed results.

First had been the Kaylan Private Test in Hwoarang, Togonistan. It had been an interesting experience to travel to Tushlark and meet the staff, and then get two hours to get the setup the way that she liked it before hitting the track. She had placed third amongst six drivers, which wasn't too bad.

Then, she'd traveled to Pryfurium, Diarcesia for the three-day test as prt of PB-Viska driver tests. Despite conducting herself well in interviews, she didn't do well in any of the three days of tests, with her best finish being eighth. Often times, she didn't start off aggressive enough and found herself trailing most of the time in her group. It was disappointing.

Now, she was at Veratuna Circuit. Qualifying at thirteenth place, Anola was able to maneuver her way to tenth place and secure one hard earned point with two more days to go.

It was crazy.

Deep inside, though, she knew she could do this. That she was born to do this.

Then, her email notification went on, and...

Anola blinked, and blinked, and blinked.

Kaylan Racing wanted her to be their first driver.

She had talked to Rhianni about this scenario.

"Don't commit until you've gotten all offers," she stated to herself.

For the first time since this process began, Anola smiled.

Equipo Telebuenas-BA (ETBA) office
Yogyakulta, Filindostan

Manolo arrived in the newly-furnished office for ETBA, which replaced the office occupied by Rudolf Ibuna and his Ibuna-Gambal Racing (IGR) contingent, the refurbishing of the office took only two months, and thus was ready for occupancy once completed. There, he met his technical director and staff for the team, in which the higher ups were from Hispinas, and the engineers and crew are from Monghit Motorsport in Filindostan. Tavio Avanzado is the appointed technical director by Jose Manuel Varadi himself to administer technical related matters in preparation for his big role in Badai Angin's WGPC team in the coming months.

He discussed with Avanzado and the rest of the team how they will administer the driver trials. Ricafort offered a bunch of Filindo WGP3 chassis that was prepared by Monghit in their WGP3 Filindostan series as he sees around 18 to 19 drivers which will partake in the race. They planned to use the newly-built Jakulta International Raceway, which contains sections to test the drivers' aggression and technical ability, and use specific sections for the time attack modes. Due to time constraints, they will only have the race in the full circuit, which is expected to be balanced between the two attributes.

They had planned for the race to use the three configurations of the circuit and separate the drivers into two sets of races, but due to the concerns that this will extend the session into a 3 day event, it was decided that the time trials will be conducted on the morning and early afternoon, and the race will be done in late afternoon, having only 50 kilometers for the race.

"Mr. Ricafort, can you provide me the list of drivers confirming to partake in the tests or those who expressed interest?"

"Here is the list, Mr. Avanzado."

List of drivers

Adriana Kowalski
Saknomi Rikikida
Hoshikari Yume
Anola Melani
Charyseine Valkyria
Ringo Ando II
Joy Wingelaar
Indra Vartak
Harry Zoomtwat
Luc Deschamps
Kole Sanderia
Batu Tüvshinbayar
Pedro Carballal
Katie Edwards
Alex Márquez
Chiruno Hakusoe
Anneliese Devereux
Edward Rousseau

"Interesting. I see some names being offered driver contracts already for other teams as per insider information, what should we do with them?"

"Mr. Varadi told me that this trials are not only for the second seat at Equipo Telebuenas, but we are also looking for drivers that we can sign for the Badai Angin Drivers' Academy. I think Devereux is already tied to Bitten Heroes Academy so we cannot sign her, but in case she gets the second seat at ETBA, or we see interest on drivers already locked to other WGP2 teams like Vartak, then we can still sign those drivers in the academy and consider these drivers if they are already ripe to team up with Rustom Ibuna at the Badai Angin Tim."

"Yes, we can do that. I'd say we consider them for the trials, but that might depend if their parent teams allow them to still partake in the trials, or if they allow their driver to be backed up by a rival engine manufacturer."

"Okay, should I send them the information on the trials now?"

"Go ahead, but please have it reviewed by me and Mr. Varadi first before sending."

Ricafort drafted the email to the drivers and pressed the sent button. The email reads:

Subject: | Details for Equipo Telebuenas-BA Driver Trials

Good day!

This is Manolo Ricafort, Team Principal of Equipo Telebuenas - Badai Angin (ETBA), based from Yogyakulta in Filindostan.

We have previously acknowledged your interest or confirmation to attend the driver trials for the second open driver slot in the Equipo Telebuenas-Badai Angin WGP2 team. If you have received this email by mistake, or if you have been both confirmed for an existing WGP2 team AND have already been part of a driver academy similar to the Badai Angin Driver Academy, then kindly let us know so we can remove your name from the list.

Please note that we are not only offering a driver spot in the WGP2 team, but we are evaluating drivers to determine who can be offered a spot in our Badai Angin Drivers program which includes Rod Gozum and Alvis Kalvin Lacsamana, the WGP3 Filindostan champion for this season.

We are sending you the information for the ETBA Driver Trials event that will be held this weekend in the Jakulta International Raceway, in Tanjung Pagi Island in Filindostan. The track which is owned by Badai Angin, has not been opened to public yet and the driver trials will be the first event to grace the track. The event will be a one-day event on Saturday, with the morning session focused on you having a 90 minute session on each of the three configurations of the track, where the fastest lap and fastest five laps will be collected for each. There will be two sessions before lunch and one after lunch. The times on the final session will be your starting grid for the race in the full grand prix circuit. Track layouts, and images will be provided to you two days before the session.

We will be evaluating the results collectively and offer the drivers spot and a chance to be part of the driver academy for several drivers who will pique our interest and we think can step up to the WGPC in several seasons time. For all the drivers, travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed upon providing valid receipts, while food will be provided in the event itself.

Please let me know if there are any queries in the above details. Hoping to hear from you soon.

VSK Tryouts Day 2
Novi Berenta Circuit
Korkovanta, Auruna

At the north of Sterlennau is a relatively large city of Korkovanta, unknown to most outside of Auruna but it is home to one of the newest circuits in the country. The Novi Berenta Circuit is built around the lake right next to the roads where the old Berenta Schyöziren was held on. It provides a balanced challenge for the drivers with a twisty, slightly uphill sector 2 then a fast and aggressive sector three, featuring one of the longest straights among Aurun circuits, only second to Livonsk where they will tackle in Day 3. (They will be using the 7.8 km GT layout instead of the 12 km AEC layout although the straight in the GT is still the longest.) This will be the first time Korkovanta experiences formula cars.

Pretty much the same setup as before, the three will be watching from the commentary box.

"Rai, you heard of the driver that spray painted her car? Should we do something about it?" Orel asks.

Immediately, Raiko responds. "I don't mind it at all. We've had a similar case before with Erik Lövänne in protest against some shady title sponsor or that one with Kaukanna, for whatever reason and the MNA didn't care." He looks at one of the monitors inside the commentary box. "The MNA gives a lot of freedom to the drivers while strictly enforcing whatever is necessary."

"This is why I became a team principal in the first place, to learn from it."

And five minutes until Day 2 starts, the drivers are already inside their assigned pit boxes, preparing for whatever the circuit decides to throw at them.

Listening to the rotaries, screaming through the forested areas along the lake brings excitement to any motorsport fan. That distinct sound, and have 16 of them? It must be music. Even though it's still practice, Raiko knows that it's going to be interesting.

Sakinomi Rikikida had almost forgotten how utterly dreadful it was to sleep on foreign beds. They were too soft, too smooth, too...empty. Laying upon a silken facade of a mattress while Reiyomi hogged the floor...just like that time in Hapilopper, only this time without any semblance of good company, just crude translations of words she barely understood and the mystifying decor of an exotic country. At least she wasn’t paying for a second of it- Chudokuren regulations had seen to that. Such regulations had even prevented her from attending the INSERT trials. Not that she was bitter at the loss- she was much too busy enduring this place to tolerate another one all too much and all too little like it.

She’d gotten more sleep during the Nightmare than she had last night. But weary as she was, addled by culture shock and stuck alone with somewhere she put up with more than actually liked and still dizzied by jet lag, she had a duty to do. And she refused to let something as simple as momentary confusion best her on the track. Rikikida was a soldier at heart. An embodiment of tyranny’s might. An incarnation of the Overlady’s will, cast in the skies above the iron islands of her homeland and forged in the crucible of indiscriminate horror and carnage.

From the moment she saw the guns, that bloodlust filled her again.

They were like the guns that had met her every day on the airship when she came to land her fighter.

They were like the guns that had served as her only cover from an onslaught of unyielding fanatics, singing and smiling as they slaughtered her people.

They were like the guns that rested empty and abandoned in the countryside of Nogyo District, remembered only as memorials to those who did not survive the test of battle, their gravestones commemorated any achievements etched into their flesh.

In practise she had failed- beaten even by the delirious whims of the purple-haired Sangakuren that had come with her on the long flight to Auruna. They had each kept to their own business, neither daring to cause a ruckus when countless eyes were on them, when they both stood to represent the Supreme Ultimate Country. But on this track they were not allies- they were rivals, competing for who better embodied Chudokuren supremacy. And she would not let that pitiful upstart tear her future away from her- she would not let anyone unscarred presume to showcase Kyoki Chudoku’s nature to the world.

She soared along the track as she had soared across the sky- ruthless aggression and overwhelming power pushing her beyond the edge, beyond those who dared challenge her on the course. Like a homing missile she burst into the scene, narrowly evading every turn and storming past the finish line-

And did the impossible.

Where in her last championship, torn away from her based on a mere delusion, she had come outright last upon her first venture to a foreign land...here, she had come first. Order had prevailed.

And as she tore her helmet off, scratched the twin scars that itched upon her cheek, staring at an approaching Reiyomi...for once, all words escaped her.

“Saki,” came her minder’s words. “I knew you had it in you.”

And for once...

Just for once...

Rikikida smiled in return.

Rain.

Endless rain.

It had begun as a light shower during practice- where Rikikida had fallen from the fastest competitor to the slowest racer on the track. But that did not deter her. It was not the training that mattered, not the sight-seeing tour of the first taste of every track. It was the race that was important, the struggle which truly mattered. And as the downpour grew, and as sprinkles turned to droplets turned to an ongoing storm, Rikikida felt no fear, no terror. She had learned this craft in the muddy remnants of the Nogyo outskirts, dragging a cobbled-together test vehicle across fragments of scorched rubble and scarred pits of sludge and earth.

She sped like a bullet through the qualifier. It was a narrow chase, but then it always was. A fraction of an instant meant the difference between victory or defeat- it was only that here, such a minuscule timespan ni longer meant the difference between life and death. She swerved across the twists of sector two, winding her way around every corner in her path. She charged down the long straight of sector three, pushing through the stampede to take her place at the front.

Pride swelled in her veins as much as sweat poured down her skin.

She had stormed her way to first place in Veratuna. She had put aside her frustrations with Reiyomi just for this trip- for once the two seemed in lockstep, genuinely happy with the way things were going. She had rushed through the qualifier at breakneck speed, was even starting to understand the team familiarisation process more every hour-

But in the race proper, in what truly mattered, she fell behind. It was the straight that did her in- a moment too long taken to transition from the wild twists to the narrow beeline. In a war that moment would have killed her. In the face, it caused only an invisible wound.

A necessary one.

She was not immortal. She did not believe in fate or destiny any more than any other Chudokuren did. But she had brown so confident, so self-assured, for just a minute or two she’d let victory feel like a certainty...not the hope that it was. Not the battle that needed to be fought.

There was a chance. Still a chance, to make this right. To learn from everything, and let her ruthless passion take her to victory once again. One more track. One more battlefield, to be fought in this distant land.

Rikikida gazed upon the clouds, held a glove out to the rain.

She would finish it.

And she would finish it right.

That is a P3, Luc, starting P3 for the race in Novi Berenta.

If anything, the chaos and uncertainty of the rain pouring down the track was what Luc needed to set a good qualifying time. Slippery and wet tracks seemed to be what Deschamps had the most potential in, and as the first drops splattered for practice, he knew what he was going to get himself into - A rain-soaked race with drops splashing all over the cars and the helmets, with practice being a low placing affair as he adjusts to the pouring rain for qualifying.

When qualifying hit, the rain was coming down fast and hard, a bunch of guns firing their watery bullets at the Aurun ground below. Q1 actually saw a tie for first place, as Sakinomi Rikikida and Kole Sanderia put in the exact same laptime around the Novi Berenta Circuit, a 2:17.747. Deschamps would rank 5th in laptimes, .102 seconds behind the duo.

With the rain still poring down hard on the racing surface, the 10 drivers made their way out for Q2. Ted Pressley's mistakes costed him any real shot at the pole, as he would have to sit 10th for the race with a time just barely above 2:16. Kole Sandera, who tied for the fastest time in Q1, fell to 5th, all while Sakinomi's bullet raced down the track and snatched pole away from Pedro Carballal. Luc would sit right behind her for the race.

As the lights went off, of course, the rain was still pouring. Everybody had wet tyres in tow as the rain continued to splash everywhere, trails of water coming out of the tyres as they spun and spun, generating as much energy as possible to keep the cars running. Luc's racecraft left something to be desired, however. He would go from 3rd to 5th when the race was done, a good position yes, but it was still a dropoff from qualifying. He would leave the soaking track with 10 points to his name, and was considered to fill that second seat for VSK. But like the racing itself, it was a battle. A battle that he was probably going to lose in given his racecraft.

Livonsk was waiting for him, but he still had a couple more kinks to iron out, mainly the other 2 trials he had - PB-Viska and Equipo Telebuenas-BA. He did have some time before the PB-Viska trials, but ETBA was offering something more for him - If he actually won the driver spot for that team, with the ever iconic Badai Angin name on it, he would be offered a spot in the Badai Angin Driver Academy, which meant all the funding, all the trouble he would have to go through? It would be a non-factor. He would be racing as part of the legendary Filindostan motorsport outfit, and even though getting a seat with the WGPC team was unlikely, there still was a genuine shot!

But that was for later. These tryouts for VSK weren't over yet, one more race was to happen before Luc would ever be considered for a seat with the team. The rainy conditions of Novi Berenta motivated him to a top 5 finish and a consideration for the VSK seat. Tomorrow was going to be the most important day of his racing career.

It was time to show them his power.

OOC: Harry's participation in the TMW test has already been confirmed outside this post.

A bi-plane, hanging low in the air because of the enormous quantity of alcohol loaded into its storage bay, and moving erratically on account of the air resistance offered by the astonishing moustache of its pilot, was nonetheless making steady progress through on the long flight north to the Nordic Lands. In the back seat, Sid was busy darning a pair of his master’s socks when he spotted a flutter of wings approaching.

The brave little messenger pigeon [the result of an email entering the world of Featherstonehaugh Cholmondeley] was gamely trying to get close to the plane, flapping its stubby wings as hard as possible. A message was tied to its leg; once it got close, Sid reached out a long, thin, arm and allowed the weary bird to alight. He drew it in, and set about helping the bird to a thimbleful of brandy. Even up in the air, with the engines droning, Harry’s ears pricked up at the sound of the stopper softly popping from the bottle.

“I say, Sid you old scoundrel, that time already? Top a chap up, would you, old bean?”

Sid glumly poured out a measure of the brandy for Harry and passed it forwards into the cockpit. He didn’t like his master drinking and flying, but the scientific testing of its true danger was difficult to assess as so far as he knew Harry had never flown sober.

“Pretty stingy,” muttered Harry as he threw back the drink in half the time it took the tired pigeon to peck up its few droplets of sugary restorative.

Sid unrolled the note. It was another invitation – Harry had been receiving quite a few of them over the last few days. Sid’s eyes widened as he took in the provenance of this one.

“Another of the little blighters, eh?” shouted Harry. “How much do the thieving bounders want this time?”

The news that they would be required to pay the authorities in Aboveland a sizeable sum [in Featherstonehaugh Cholmondeley, accounting for 90 years of inflation, just over 50 pounds] had not gone down well with Harry, who’d spent much of the flight thus far cursing and holding forth on the evils of usury. His plans to “make recompense” by going walrus-hunting after the test drive was over had further alarmed Sid. They’d secured the funds, but the merchant bankers who’d extended the credit had further darkened Harry’s mood by refusing to accept a promise of walrus tusks as repayment.

“Sir, it’s another invitation.”

“Another! Good god, at this rate, when do they expect a fella to have time for a sit down and a good game of bridge!? Who are the impertinent buggers?”

Sid delicately explained that the author of the note was one Vasily Semyonovich Gatutin of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia.

“Bolshies! By Jove!”

Sid sensed his master needed a refill as he considered the moral quandary of potentially driving for a team hailing from the sworn enemies of freedom, honour, and the cover drive. He splashed a more generous helping of brandy into the glass and passed it forward.

“Hmm. Suppose it would be something to write home about.”

“They are also offering a tour of their facility.”

“Bit of the old spycraft, eh, Sid, you crafty old blaster? Get a good nose around?”

“And as you say, something to write home about. I’m sure Lady Arabella would be most amused.”

Bella was one of Harry’s current squeezes, a nice enough girl. Husband was a bit of a drip. Take that out of my wife, I’m the Prime Minister! Good god man, no need to be such a wet rag, just a bit of sport.

“Hmph. Perhaps you’re right. Harry the Red! I’d be talk of Londontown, if nothing else… Tell them I’ll go. But there’d better be none of this funny business with the money…”

Sid scribbled out a reply confirming Harry would visit UrGa Motorsports Division in Myrilsk, attached it to the pigeon’s leg, and tossed the bird from the plane. It fluttered off [and would turn into an email on entering the prime universe].

Sid was about to return to his needlework when he heard Harry pipe up once more. “Any more news to report, old bean?”

“Sir has received a confirmation from Filindostan,” Sid reported. “A driving test, at Jakulta International Raceway.” He began fumbling around for a map, but Harry waved him off – that could be plotted later. “Expenses to be covered. And food provided for the event.”

“Food – and drink?”

“No mention of drink, sir.”

“By Jove!”

Harry’s alarm at this state of affairs had thrown the plane into a dive. The plane tumbled from the sky, plummeting towards the ground, as Sid clung on for dear life.

“No drink!?”

Mixed results for Fichter spell end of Pryfors Bilar-Viska dreams

Schutzenphalian WGP3 racing champion Lukas Fichter’s early hopes of earning a seat for the forthcoming WGP2 series with Air Kalactin’s Pryfors Bilar-Viska team appear to have been dashed after a mixed set of results at a series of test days in Pryfurium, Diarcesia. Fichter failed to stand out from a crowded field of talented young potential drivers, and was always fighting from the back after a poor Day 1 performance saw him finish in last place on the aggression-oriented layout, more than a second outside winner Joy Wingelaar’s time. Layout B, favouring technique, proved a better match for Fichter’s abilities on Day 2. Fichter finished 2nd on the day to Edward Rousseau, but after his first day’s failure was left with too much ground to make up on Day 3, coming in in the bottom half (7th of 12) to effectively spell the end of hopes of being signed. “It was a good course set-up,” said a philosophical Fichter afterwards. “On the first day I just didn’t gun it hard enough. I was pleased to show off my handling on the second day and hopefully there are other teams following these results who might be a better fit.”

Fichter struggles at VSK tests as concerns mount

The step-up from GP3 to GP2 yawns wider than ever for Lukas Fichter, as the Schutzenphalian junior champ struggled through another disappointing set of results at team tryouts. Critics have pointed to a lack of aggressive intent from the notoriously calculating, methodical driver as the main problem. “He doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct,” says Schutzenphalian racing journalist Konstantin Kändler. “The Veratuna Circuit [in Auruna] rewards aggression, and Lukas just seemed to putter along at the back.” He failed to improve on his 14th place qualifying position in the race. On Day 2 of the VSK tests, he did improve from 12th to 6th place on the Novi Berenta Circuit at Korkovanta, but clearly benefitted from the weather conditions, as rain blowing in disrupted the race and forced retirements ahead of him. “The better handling in the wet was what we’d expect,” said Kändler. “But still a lot to prove.” With one day remaining to make an impression on the VSK team, Kändler urged Fichter to “show off some real racing spirit” rather than driving cautiously. “Teams are going to be much more impressed if he goes all out for a top result than continues his safe approach.”

From the rolling news channel SuperBusiness.

“…had to be restrained by twelve security officers who noted his frenzied strength and staggering erection, both caused by the PCP. The Secretary’s confirmation hearings will continue tomorrow.

“And now, let’s check in with Ashlee Hollis. Ashlee Hollis!? There’s no Olympics going on right now, are there Ashlee?”

“No, it’s not the Olympic season. So Hannaseans are having to cast their net a little wider for some sporting action – but no one could have predicted how wide they’d have to cast. Motorsports! Katie Edwards, for the last few years competing in Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland, but a proud native Hannasean, is currently engaged in trials for the WGP2 racing circuit.”

    Image

“That’s unexpected. Ashlee, how is Katie doing?”

“Not very well. In tests with the VSK team of Auruna, Katie had a pretty miserable time of it on a sodden Day 2 at the Novi Berenta circuit. She finished way back in 13th place, over 20 seconds down on 12, after losing traction and nearly spinning off the course. The rainy conditions weren’t to her liking, of course, and she did at least manage to finish, but I think it’s safe to say we won’t run into her picking out VSK colours for her team any time soon.”

“Pretty disappointing. Does Katie have any other options?”

“The best chance, just from the fact that she’s competing from a much smaller field, of just 4, rather than the 16 she’s driving against in Auruna, will come in Lisander. She’s confirmed she’ll be attending the test event at Brax Motorpark. The Brax Circuit doesn’t massively play to Katie’s strengths: she’s seen as more of a technical specialist, so she’ll have to absolutely blast that opening straight into the Hammer if she’s to have any chance of putting up a competitive time, but it’s still an opportunity to show the Bitten Heroes Academy what she can do.”

“And how is Katie’s morale holding up through all this?”

“Pretty well, considering. I think she knows full well this stage of the pre-season is very hard and very competitive, and she’s surrounded by very tough, very dedicated rivals who want a seat just as much as her. But she’s had to overcome a lot to get to just this stage – coming from Hannasea, not exactly a wellspring of driving talent, moving overseas – so one or too poor tests won’t grind her down, yet.”

“Well good luck to Katie in the forthcoming tests and let’s hope we can have you back to report on her getting a seat, Ashlee.

“Now, let’s turn to the markets. Those oranges look juicy and plump, but the bananas are a little bruised – oh, financial markets!? Uh…”

Alex was in a buoyant mood that evening as she returned to the drivers’ dorms in Sterlennau. The result had hardly been spectacular – another 7th place, this one half a minute down – but considering where she’d started from after her poor qualifying spell, she had cause to be pleased. The miserable rainy conditions reminded her of a fine Græntfjaller summer day, so she hadn’t been as fazed by the water on the track as some.

It had been a nice move to get past Tüvshinbayar. She’d tried to pass the aggressive Mongol a couple of times, tailing him up the sector 2 twists before blasting past him as she took a tight line out of the last curve into the back straight.

On other hand, she’d let Chiruno Hakusoe blow past her almost straight off the line. Early on she’d tried to be too aggressive, making up the huge deficit to the lead all in one jump, and inevitably ended up paying for it, nearly hydroplaning as she came out of a corner too sharply. By the time she’d got her wheels vaguely pointing in the right direction Hakusoe had left her behind – and she wouldn’t see the #21 car again the whole race.

Such were the small margins on which races were decided – and potentially on which her future career depended. She knew she’d be up half the night mentally reliving the race, castigating herself for that early error, for not being more aggressive when Melani started moving up and trying to follow, for letting Fichter back in it after they’d traded places twice. Resigned to the idea that she wasn’t going to be getting much sleep, she decided she could indulge in some coffee, guilt-free.

A couple of hours later, Alex was sitting in her bed, the race guide for the Livonsk circuit discarded to one side. She’d tried reading through it and mentally planning her route, but she kept being distracted by the chirrup of her phone as texts from her friends back home flooded in. Back in Græntfjall, she corrected herself. Home was a long way away. And she had few friends back there now.

A new message arrived. Friðþjóf, one of the Græntfjaller drivers she competed with, wanted to know how she’d got on.

“7th :/”

They texted in English; Alex found it much easier to use the common international language than grapple with the strange guttural sounds of her adopted land.

“what’s the team like?”

“seem cool. don’t think i’ll get a seat so trying not to get my hopes too invested here tho!”

“where next?”

“1 more day here then filindostan or sommet de lespoir”

Friðþjóf couldn’t offer much in the way of technical advice – he was a nice guy but a very limited driver, and it wasn’t arrogance that led Alex to know she was far his superior. But it was always good to hear from a friend. Especially because every minute she spent talking to him was one less minute she spent mentally repicturing her wheels spinning uselessly on the slick wet as Hakusoe moved past her.

Korkovanta, Auruna

He'd scraped through into the second half of qualifying by three hundredths of a second - now, as the cars lined up underneath the gloomy sky for qualifying - the rain battering down on helmets and cars heavier than at the start of the day - Ted mentally rehearsed the sequence of turns in the twisty sector 2, hoping he wouldn't get it wrong again. He approached the section which he hadn't nailed yet, and as he took off one of the water-repellent strips from his helmet visor, he began the climb.

Left-right. Slight left. Or was it right-left then slight left? How long before the end of the sector? The section that he had trouble with - turns 8 to 12 - was coming up fast. But he couldn't really see the critical apex, and missed it completely. Thank goodness he'd erred on the right side of the track - rather than going off the road completely - but it meant that he'd be faced with a less than opportune line through the sequence of corners the next time round - during the run that actually mattered.

He sighed through his helmet as he began the long run down to the start/finish. He'd have enough time for one run. Another strip was taken off as he began the run. Sector one had been easy, but now came the difficult part. Here it came, but --

He felt a bump, and all of a sudden the wall appeared on his right, too close for comfort. His heart leapt. Had he fucked up the turn? He had, hadn't he? No time to think! Turn, you idiot! Immediately he tried correcting, but he didn't know where the actual track was. The ground was noticably rougher though. The rain had gotten so hard that it felt like he was feeling his way through a thick fog, except instead of feeling he was guiding a fully-fledged WGP2 car. Or at least something close to it, anyway.

Another bump. The ground had gotten smooth again, and the sequence of turns from here on out the track opened up, and became easier. But he'd lost a fair bit of time on the track, and when he came through for the end of his first run, he was a second behind Rikikida. Eight hundredths of a second behind Melani.

The feeling got even worse after the race when Melani rocketed away from ninth to first...when he made up just one measly place to finish ninth again. A real kick in the teeth, this was. And the result meant he was virtually out of contention for the VSK seat.

No matter, however. There were more trials remaining. Soon he'd jet over to Lisander for the trial with MW, which he was looking forward to - just him and the engineers, working on a car. His favourite past-time. Soon he'd be showing the world what he could do.

And Thus, Decisions Must Be Made

Somewhere in Auruna
End of Day 2 in VSK Tryouts

Arriving in Auruna for another test in his attempt to make WGP2 S4, Batu Tüvshinbayar was looking to prove himself to the masses once again. His previous event before this was a test for Kaylan in Tongonistan and despite posting the 2nd nest time of the session, he wasn't contacted for a contract after his efforts in Hwoarang. Now, with everything still up for grabs, he hoped to impress this VSK and maybe others as well in this multi-day event across this racing nation.

Day 1 took place in Veratuna, a circuit tailored for aggression and pushing drivers to their theoretical limits. He would post the 2nd fastest time in practice on that day, just behind Anneliese Devereux and just ahead of Charyseine Valkyria, but that would be the highlight of the day for the TJUN-ian here. Qualifying was a disaster as he went from 2nd to 2nd from last in 15th and he would stay there in the 20-lap race as well, accidentally-spinning Luc Deschamps summing it all up for Shinebaushin's own. He felt really bad that night, cursing himself and hoping that he will be better the next time around.

That next time would come today and the Novi Berenta Circuit in Korkovanta, a track that was balanced with both tight and fast sections to play with. Batu was determined to try and improve on his performances from yesterday...and improve he certainly did. He did well in practice again with 4th this time around and his qualifying form was definitely better in 8th. The day had been a rain-out and the race was especially tough but despite that, he would hold his position well to take 4 points which may not mean much to many, but it certainly meant a lot to him. After the nightmare of yesterday, he was feeling better about himself overall and was ready to take tomorrow on no matter what!

That was until he heard about Anneliese Devereux, who was actually doing well in 4th overall but had a certain superstition about her: the number 7. As it turned out, she thought that #7 was lucky to her and so, she actually made quite a fuss when it turned out that the MRO had beaten her to the number in signing up for this series. She made such a fuss in fact that she actually graffitied the number onto her car, which was labelled as #12, as if to make a point about it all. Now, sitting in his hotel room, Batu felt really bad about it all he knew that he had to do something if he was to come out of this whole thing unscathed...

To: Anneliese Devereux
From: Batu Tüvshinbayar
Topic: #7

Hello there, sorry to disturb your assumed-busy schedule. My name is Batu Tŭvshinbayar and I was the one who ended up with the number 7 in this test. I'm not here to gloat about having this number or anything and after hearing about your...superstitions (I hope I'm using the right term) about the #7 in your own career, I'd like to formally apologise for taking this number off you. I didn't know it meant that much to you and if I knew that, I would've requested that my number by changed for this test.

I chose #7 originally because that was one of the 3 numbers considered lucky to my people, the Mongolian people, with the other 2 beating 3 and 9. I didn't want 3 because I thought that would be a number well sort after by many drivers in this series, but I guess I don't factor in 7 either. I'm so sorry if I've caused any stress because of this and as such, I would be willing to do something drastic: If we both end up in WGP2 this season, I will have no problems with giving up the use of #7 to you. I'm not someone who will keep something that clearly belongs to someone else and, because I know you are the better driver, you deserve this number over a rookie like me.

Hope this gets to you well and good luck for the rest of the season.

Post 4 – Environmental Variables

Kaylan Private Test, Hwoarang Racing Circuit, Hwoarang, Togonistan

As the plane touches down and sets its foot on Hwoarang, Adriana felt a breeze of fresh air, perhaps a metaphor of a new beginning that she might just have on this new season of WGP2, on top of signing up for a new team. Angela and Angeline helped Adriana set up her room, whilst eying at all the goodies that were packed inside - private room, widescreen TV, minibar, all there just for her. The two Valentians following her friend would pop in now and then but for the most parts, they opted to stay on the plane. As Adriana settled herself in, she was told about the tour the next day, and thus was told to eat some breakfast. "Well, I should charge up nonetheless," she said to herself, bringing her portable charging system and plugging it into her neck socket, while turning on the TV to surf through the local channels. The next day, the breakfast saw Adriana simply having a chat with the team staff, perhaps after being a little startled by her sheer height. The one-hour trip also went well, Adriana taking as many shots as she can like a budding tourist.

Soon, Adriana would find herself sitting and hanging out together with the other drivers - both big names and small-timers like her, but the eagerness is more or less mutual and equal. They were all vying for that spot in a team, but the informality and friendliness more or less stands. Xander Mahakipare, the team principal, started speaking and provided the technicalities. "... Kowalski in car 2." "Not bad," she thought to herself. Being last is not necessarily a bad thing here, since she was able to see how the other drivers fared and did along the track. A good learning point as any other, Adriana thought. A fizzy orange juice in her hand, she watched the circuit intensely from the VIP lounge, taking a snapshot of it from the somewhat of a bird eye's view and started marking out the speeds and turns that she will need, along with the possible pain points that she might have, all in her mind. "Things seem pretty... okay."

Then came her turn. She swore that she was able to do as best as she could. No fumbling, no crashing, nothing of that sort. Crashing in WGP2 is one thing, but here, she was certain that any kind of damage she might have done would need to be fully paid. Money aside, it would be reputation that she was worried about. Still, 5th out of the 6 wasn't too bad; at least she was not last. The other drivers have certainly proved themselves to be quite a formidable opponent, something that has not changed since her days in WGP2 3 and WGPC 18. "Maybe I will have a better time and chance at other tryouts," she thought to herself, before walking towards Xander and shook his hand, "Thank you for the opportunity as well! It's been amazing!"

The next few days came about, with no sign or message from them. Adriana simply assumed that the team offered to the other drivers. She would not have that much of a problem with that, for she was focusing on trying to get the spot of one team, one that she was particularly fond and has good history with back in WGPC. And just like that, the email was there. "Fireline Motorsports offers a spot to you, Adriana Kowalski Ela Lillian." Her computational parts leaped to higher activity, excited that someone was offering her a spot instead of the usual "Try out as hard as possible" that she was doing at that moment. Should she accept it right away? She does not have any problem with Fireline, but she also wanted to try out the other trials. "Hmm, maybe I will have to put it on hold, but I will need to make a choice soon," flagging the email as urgent and to be replied back after the tryouts at VSK.

Veratuna Circuit, Veratuna, Auruna

Another new place, she thought to herself, but somewhere that she was sort of familiar with. Federal Republic of Auruna / Litävinnenazyonalla Auruna, the name was all way too familiar with her. They were there for almost all of the Grand Prix events, be it WGPC or WGP2. Trying out for them might not be too bad, and her name was already inside the list, so might as well give it a try before she accepts an offer straightaway. Looking at the map of the race course, along with the weather conditions, Adriana didn't think that it would be that bad, at least when she got enough practice. The practice session saw her having the worst timing out of the 16 drivers, but she wasn't daunted by that. It was not even qualifying, let alone an actual race. The data she has obtained was more than enough. "Well, hey. As long as I am making errors and adjustments on the fly and on the practice course," she remarked to herself and to the staff that were attached to work with her. The vehicle would always be the first thing that worries Adriana - it was due to her size, and being an Android, she requires a much more precise control over her vehicle. Nexus Academy has proved that. And just like that, she scored a 6th for Qualifications, followed by a 5th for the Race. "Not bad, not bad," she thought to herself, looking in awe at the scoreboard, her stature sticking out amongst the crowd.

Novi Berenta Circuit, Korkovanta, Auruna

Then came the second day. Light showers on the circuits and the weather, the PA systems and news have stated. It certainly changed for Adriana, for the worse. The Practice session was not as bad, in fact scoring herself a 3rd with the fastest lap. She thought it was the data, which helped a little with the experience she has gotten. However, the methods might be the same, but the course? The light showers changed the frictional coefficients a little bit, but nothing that she could not control. The actual bane of it came not with the Qualifications but from the actual Race. The qualifications netted her a 6th, with the rain skidding her vehicle off and knocking her out of the race. The slippery and extremely varied conditions were too much of a wrench for her. Adriana was told that the damage wasn't too bad, but it did threw her practice car out of balance for a good while. It was not as if she was there to crash their cars like a derby, but here she is, skidding the car off on the 8th lap and hitting the curb with quite a force.

"I don't mind paying for it, really," Adriana privately insisted, once again talking to the staff and pit crew that were attached to her, "I don't mind getting a DNF and I know it is part and parcel, but I still feel bad that I nearly totaled your car!"

This is going to be a long tryout week, she thought to herself.

~ 1202 words.

He was relaxing calmy at the smosh city beach, in his hotel room, watching a novel called "sweet home arises", when suddenly, he saw the announcement of the WGP2 tryout in Toralmintii.
"This sounds interesting..." He said.

Looking for Team 5: VSK Day 2

Postby Chromatika » Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:38 pm

Hotel Room
Veratuna, Auruna

Rain was an old friend.

To say Chromatik weather was bad would be an understatement. Located in the northeastern corner of Atlantian Oceania, Chromatika is known for its cold temperatures, constant precipitation in most parts of the country, and lots of snow during the winter. That meant that in order to race in Chromatika, you had to know how to handle driving in the rain. In fact, only about a third of the races that she had participated in were in good weather.

So, when it started raining before the second day of tryouts for VSK, it was like seeing an old friend. She knew to let the car drive itself and to not bear her weight on the turns too much, to ease off on the accelerator. She knew to anticipate the turns a bit before they actually were coming up, and to be a bit more judicious in recognizing the spacing between herself and other vehicles. This time was no different - regardless of the track, regardless of the vehicle, weather behaved the same.

As she heard the splatter of the rain against her vehicle, it gave her a boost of confidence.

An hour and fifteen minutes later, she came out of the car with a wide smile on her face. She had won the race! She'd gotten the hang of the track by the third lap, seen her openings, committed as she needed to, and won by a fifteen second margin!

There was still one day of tests to go, but Anola Melani felt like she had a handle on things, at least for the moment.

And that was a great feeling to have.

All's Well That Ends Well

Korkovanta, Auruna
VSK Trials, Day 2

That was quite decent rain, but driving in rain wasn't the best for Anneliese Devereux.

"Today is the day for witches to leave their brooms at home and go out on a squeegee." - Sissie was trying to make jokes to improve her mood. Being a driver who had always been cautious, she clearly wasn't going to do so well that day. She still lacked courage.

"That's it... Today your little paint job won't hold..." - Darius Castellammare attacked once more against Sissie's mood.

"Don't remind me of that, what a bummer. I'm sure today will be a shitty day."

"Well, it could be better, but at least it was decent. It was better than the PB/Viska tests, to be fair. I was really good in that dry moment on the start... in the end, from last to P3, and just two seconds behind the second place, and with rain! At least, the hotel they provided us is very good. I feel I could die in that bathtub. So warm and inviting. Don't you think that, Athena?"

Athena Haines, another famous female athlete in motorsports, but in two wheels, were Darius Castellammare wife. She was there as a data analyst, but the official reason was to "scout" international circuits that could be used as special venues for Motorsport Lisander sanctioned events.

"Maybe a little too small. By the way, you received an e-mail while you were in the bath. That is if that alert that sound like chimes is for e-mail."

Sissie sat at the table and opened her mailbox.

Re: #7

Greetings, Mr Tüvshinbayar,
I really need to thank you so much for this. It was so gentle of you to solve a problem that wasn't yours to start. I drive cars with #7 or #07 since I first entered a rental kart, more than twelve years ago. Every single time I used a different number, my results were not even close, as in last WGPC season, when they gave me #12, and I had an awful result. Same in my last WGP3 season. I was #19 there and I had the worst season of my life.

The ones to blame are the PR workers of Motorsport Lisander, the company that organizes motorsports in my nation. As soon as I was informed that I should send number choices, I sent #7 as the first choice and no second choice. Seems like one of those bloody idiots decided to add #12 as the second option, since I used this number before, without consulting me. When I arrived at the first test in Auruna, I noticed they had modified my signup in the worst possible way: When I look at the list of cars. I got really pissed, and I decided to make my own justice with Flow-vis. I never intended to get angry at you. I do respect the traditions of your nation and I'll do my best to take this number to the highest levels.

Once more, thank you so much. I'm so happy!

Anneliese.

"Just wanted a cup of herbal tea before jumping in bed. Lemongrass would be lovely. I have a pot with planted lemongrass in my kitchen. I should have cut and brought some with me... aarghhh." - she grunted. - "So, I'm going to sleep right now, tomorrow you talk to me about the MW tests. Damn time zones, those always mess up my head a bit."

I had a long, long day, with almost no time to write. The happenings of this post were scribed little by little during the entire day. That's why I'm postponing just the post of the first trackday of BH Academy. Tomorrow, two posts will be made concerning the two first candidates.

Veratuna, Auruna
Inside his apartment, Haru wakes up early, the sun has not yet risen but he is up. Ahead of his alarm but it was earlier than usual. Way early. He checks his phone while making some coffee. 7 missed calls, 1 new message it says on the screen, he asks himself. "Who the hell kept calling while I was asleep?" He ignores it for now, getting his cup then sits on his bed, browsing his phone for any news regarding WGP2.

Days have passed after the start of the signups, he was getting desperate inside. After all, he has been doing well in racing after leaving Schkeska - calm and consistent after perfecting his own racecraft. His new family at Krazivaran certainly knows what he is capable of, especially after winning the E-Series Drivers' and Constructors' Championships. He then attended the Nexus Driver Academy in an attempt to get his name out there along with others with the same goal.

Realising that the teams won't come after him, he quickly devises a plan after looking at the teams with openings. He then prepares for the Nykinoo trials, the one he signed up for. He's there to prove his skill behind the wheel. Any chance he gets. Clearing his mind to focus on what's ahead, and not to hit any lamp posts again.

He packs his bags before heading out to the Krazivaran Factory, bringing all his essentials and informing Kraine of his early visit where Kraine replies in the chatroom. "Vitun kääne, 3 amtaa! Köntän ya jokkenÿkkä, ienne."
"Fucks sake, it's 3 in the morning! Give me some sleep, please."

"Oh, right."

Livonsk Circuit
Livonsk, Auruna

The drivers had to be flown into Livonsk as it's basically on the other side of the country way up north and since Sterlennau Airport was extremely busy at the time, they had to use the nearby Sterlennau AFB. Private aircraft on air bases were unusual to others but a normal sight in Auruna especially when the airports are busy. They were shuttled into the air base and with some checks before entering. Good thing they have a free pass due to VSK's (parent company) connection to the Aurun National Air Force. They were directed to one of the hangars where two, 8-passenger VSK CC-12s are waiting for them. After boarding them, they waited for the fighters ahead of them to take off before being cleared for take off from the AFB.

Livonsk is currently the longest circuit in Auruna, slightly more technical than Novi Berenta. It features the longest straights in any circuit in Auruna, even its shorter 7.8 km layout still having the longest straight. It is expected for the drivers to give their all in Livonsk. An added challenge is with practice, giving them only one hour instead of the usual two gives them little time to prepare, especially at a long circuit like this, and simulating a shortened practice due to a red-flag for various reasons. Then the elimination qualifying format brings another set of challenges.

It's going to be an eventful day.

Martjen's Notes: Day 3
Sakinomi Rikikida
- Suited for the VSK cars.
- No other words, first choice.

Luc Deschamps
- Day 3: "Where did he come from!?" performance from P15 to P2.
- Invite him to the team anyway, in E-Series or other domestic series.
- Brilliant comeback, tied for P3 in standings with Anola Melani.
- I fucking knew it.

Chiruno Hakusoe
- Still has the potential, had a bit of difficulty in Livonsk but alright
- Knows rotaries more than the mechanics
- Where the hell are the apex seals?

After evaluating their performance over the three days of the tryouts, VSK offers Sakinomi Rikikida the first seat of the team. It was a difficult decision for the second seat but considering their potential, VSK offers Chiruno Hakusoe and Luc Deschamps the second seat in case either of them declines. If both decline, Anneliese Devereux will be offered to fill the second seat. In addition, VSK invites Luc Deschamps to the upcoming MNA E-Series II and will be contacted by the team should the MNA approves of the Aurun WGP3.

8:30AM - Stelburgring, Teusland

“Ready?” asked Magnus Schonau as he stood in the pit lane of the Stelburgring, which the TMW Racing staff had turned into a mini-camp: all the analyzing technology they would need, tyres, as well as, of course, cars. While the drivers invited to the trial enjoyed a breakfast at the TMW Racing headquarters, the staff had gotten down to work.

“Ready as we can be,” said Jorn Feisel, Team Principal. “Some of these drivers already have offers, Indra Vartak from Pratapgadh has already been signed. He wanted to still participate as a thanks to us for inviting him.”

“That just shows that our scouting team did a good job, then.” replied Schonau.

“Well, let’s hope they served them a nice breakfast at Litzengau,” laughed Feisel. “A real Stelburg special, maybe, donut and all.”

“Haha, of course. Well, I’ll let you do your thing. We’ll have a meeting at lunch, then, before the second session,” said Schonau.

“Works for me,” said Feisel. Within the hour, the 9 drivers had arrived at the Stelburgring, and had the opportunity to meet with TMW staff as well as see the cars they would be driving. Feisel spoke to the drivers before opening the proceedings.

“If you’ve made it to this point, it’s clear that you are an exceptional driver. I hope you’ve had a good start to your visit to Stelburg, but now it’s time to really get down to work. The Stelburgring can be tricky - especially in the first sector - but it’s a fun course to drive. We know that not everyone’s style matches perfectly with the track, though - and for us, it’s not about setting the fastest time today. It’s about what you show, how you interact with others and the team, and if we think you’d be a fit in our team. Don’t try to be anything other than yourself, and no heroics into turn 2, please, we’d like to keep these cars intact. We’ll be here to assist with anything you need, and I look forward to meeting with you all throughout the day. Thank you again for your participation, and best of luck!”

With that, the drivers each headed to the pit box designated for them, got in their cars, and prepared to go out. The green light went off, and the morning session began.
