Backstory
The year is 2023.
Scotland is in anarchy.
Following the collapse of a post-UK government, due to the two major political parties being all but taken over by the two biggest and historically-conflicting clans, the McIvers and the Duncans. The president lost support, and the ruling coalition collapsed. There was no government, until riots in the streets drove Parliament to act. The Parliament was unable to come to a decision, but the McIver clan-party formed a majority with other smaller clans, creating a massive clan federation, which easily formed a Parliamentary majority and appointed Angus McIver as the Prime Minister. McIver began cementing the rule of the McIver clan federation as absolute, establishing himself in a permanent position as King. He dissipated Parliament in early 2022, replacing it with a McIver-only party conference. This caused the people to once again break into rioting. Violence escalated, until people were being murdered in the streets, and non-McIver police and soldiers deserted. Cities were regularly on fire, and eventually, the Duncan clan leaders of the southern border with England, an area predominantly Duncan anyways, formed their own government and declared independence from the McIver-led Scotland. This was met with a brutal military deployment, and fighting broke out along the borders, especially in Edinburgh. Thousands of McIvers fled the south for the north, and thousands of Duncans fled the north for the south. Fighting dragged on into 2023, When the Isles declared independence as the Lewis Federation, a collection of loosely-governed clans on the Isles. Following the economic devastation of this civil war, the McIver government effectively collapsed, and the far north of the country also broke away into their own state, as did the western peninsula areas. Now, the war drags on into late 2023, with no end in sight. Millions have been displaced, and an estimated 3,000,000 have been killed. Soldiers raid towns and villages, conscripting soldiers into the armies, and practically every family has a member in the army. The UN has called this a "humanitarian disaster". All sides have committed countless war crimes, and terror groups formed of those not actively fighting rampage across the country. How will you contribute to this disaster?
A Handy Timeline of Events:
May 2021: Scotland votes to leave the UK, forming an independent government.
July 2021: Nicola Sturgeon, the Prime Minister, loses a majority in the new Parliament, and the government collapses, meaning that laws cannot be passed and federal employees are not payed.
December 2021: Deadly riots break out in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, because the government collapse has dragged on for 6 months at this point.
January 2022: The McIver clan forms into a clan-federation with other clans and secure a majority in Parliament; install Angus McIver as Prime Minister.
April 2022: Angus McIver, after securing his control over the government and reducing the power of the opposition, dissipates Parliament and replaces it with the McIver Party Convention
May-August 2022: Riots break out along the country as ethnic violence flares up in large amounts. Many flee to England, especially the minority populations, who have virtually zero representation in government; Terrorist group Dòrn Nan Dao, or Fist of the People, a Duncan-supremacist group perpetrates the Dundee Massacre, killing 19 McIvers in a town square shooting.
September 2022: Police begin targeting Dòrn Nan Dao and all suspected of being affiliated with them. They end up profiling many innocent Duncans, leading to ethnic violence. Anti-McIver retaliation attacks in the south break out, and much of the south is declared to be under curfew. However, to ensure that the officers enforce the curfew and are not lenient, the government assigns McIver police and soldiers to Duncan areas and Duncans to McIver areas. This leads to more profiling, and after the death of innocent Harry Bigarands, a Duncan man, more riots break out. Environment minister Oswald Macreming is hospitalized after being struck with a rock in a riot.
December 2022: The Duncan local governments establish their own governments in the south and declare independence from the McIver government. This leads to fighting, and when Duncan soldiers seize Edinburgh, it is heavily bombed by McIver troops. Many Duncans and McIvers flee to the north or south to escape ethnic violence
January 2023: The Duncan government is recognized by China and some other countries, due to its more socialist leanings than the McIvers. Meanwhile, McIver troops seize Edinburgh from the Duncans, and the Duncans begin bombing Edinburgh in return.
February 2023: The Isles declare independence as the Lewis Federation, but the McIvers cannot do anything about it
May 2023: The McIver government collapses as its economy does. The western peninsulas declare independence under the Maclean clan, and the Mackay clan and associated tribes declare independence in the far north. More fighting breaks out along these new borders.
June 2023: TBD, depending on events!
