Lansing, Michigan
Williams Household

Elizabeth was back in Michigan with her Husband Charles and her four children who were outside playing with their friends in the snow. She thought over the debate between Sofia and Broussard. She thought Sofia had won because Hubert kept denying he was against poll taxes when he clearly was for it as a means to disenfranchise blacks. She talked it over with her husband and he was okay with so she wrote a letter to James Brown Jr.:

To James Brown Jr.
From Representative Elizabeth Williams (R-8th-Mi)

Dear Mr. Brown,

I am Elizabeth Williams and I am a Representative from Michigan's 8th Congressional District. My husband Charles and I would like to invite you and your family stay at our home here in Lansing Michigan. We have more than enough room in this house and you will find no prejudice from us because of your skin color. We hope you accept this invitation.

Sincerely Yours,
Elizabeth Williams (R-8th-MI)

Perhaps we can even talk about you endorsing him, you'd be a help in the midwest and, if I'm not mistaken, hispanics? You're white passing, it's hard to tell that you're not white at a glance, which is precious."

Elizabeth nodded before asking," What are your husband campaigning on? What are his platforms? If you can convince to support him, I will switch my endorsement to Governor Fraser. As the first Hispanic woman to win a seat in Congress, I think I can definitely help you with the Hispanic vote especially the Cuban vote down in Florida. I can't wait to see Broussard's face when he figures out that I'm 100% Cuban American."

"Well, we see it as a little early to put out a specific platform yet, but one is in the works. As it stands, the bills I have proposed to the Senate, the FREE Act, FORTIFY Act and the Voter Rights Enforcement Act make up important elements. My co-sponsoring of boone's amendments on property taxes will also be connected to an upcoming piece of policy for Tom's Platform. Social Security Reform, to make it better reflect the market, is also in the works. he'll also be rolling out a health care plan and a plan for NASA and science in general."

RESULTS FROM DEBATE, SURPRISING FOR MANY AMERICANS

POST-DEBATE POLL RELEASED, NORTH CAROLINIANS ARE SURPRISED BY FRASER AND BROUSSARD

By Henry Devolt
January 29th, 1959
N.C. - Yesterday, the long-awaited, fully covered, debate between Senator Sofia Fraser of New York, and Representative Hubert Broussard of Louisiana took the city of Charlotte by storm. On the Eve of the Debate, buses of Broussard supporters arrived as well as Fraser supporters which temporarily bolstered the town's economy, as well as cause general confusion as to the number of natives who could attend the debate.

"I was really wanting to attend the debate," said a local man, "but there weren't enough seats. Too many coloreds attended, in my opinion. We had to stand either inside or outside or wherever there was enough room."

Those who were in attendance had two different mindsets, we caught up with two women who were in attendance and they said this,

"Well, I went to school with Sofia, lovely girl, and she was nice those days ago, but she just seemed too emotional with some of her outbursts, not to mention, she was a tad disrespectful and dismissive of Mr. Broussard. She badgered him with the same barrage of questions, no doubt, he was getting tired of it, as was I."

After reviewing a transcript of the debate, she was able to point out these instances,

"It's irrelevant to this issue that you as a Louisianan do not know what is best for the state of New York. By opposing the abolition of poll taxation, you are clearly standing in opposition to the agreement that was made when the states in came together in a union"

"You won't even trust a federal government that you have a direct say in to regulate the actions of states, what rube would an trust that an institution that actively see's to disenfranchise poor whites to protect their power through poll taxation would do well by them?"

"The overwhelming majority of American people know this as they a degree intelligence far above what you present, though as this debate goes onward, it appears that this goes far deeper than a simple presentation."

The lady continued as we presented her with these transcripts, "I think it's a wise thing to say, that you don't know the needs of people who you don't represent, it makes sense to me, and it makes sense as to why he doesn't trust the federal government to baby the states, especially when lawmakers propose things affecting states not in their jurisdiction. I also think it was rude to say that Mr. Broussard was unintelligent, he made sense to me, and I was schooled with Sofia. This will definitely hurt her husband's campaign."

After these remarks, the other lady began to speak, "I generally disagree here. I think Mr. Broussard had an ulterior agenda here. Sofia did her best with what she had, and it's just natural that she had to 'lash out' as you say, Mr. Broussard was just plain evil. Hard to get along with as well, I hate his politics. I have no reason why Sofia agreed to the debate at all, her Husband should know better than to send her out like a sheep going to slaughter. They knew she wouldn't have specific facts, which forced her to pose the same theory. I think Sofia could have done better if she would have stayed in the Defensive or the Neutral position instead of constantly being on the attack."

She pointed out some of Mr. Broussards quotes to back these statements up,

"I can say that crime in heavily populated southern areas like Atlanta, Georgia, and many other communities are mostly coming from the Negro population"

"Not to mention, Mrs. Fraser claims to care so much about the colored folk, yet she doesn't know the damages that Lincoln's War caused them, AS WELL as us!"

Generally, the opinion was that both did pretty well, but a minority of people claim that it was a waste of time. Another generally agreed upon quote was the one made by Mr. Broussard, "We need good leaders, not a Ladhe or a Fraser, we need a Jackson or a Boone to kill communism."

The AP's conclusion is that Sofia Fraser did pretty well but could have done drastically better with the proper preparation, and this may effect her husband's campaign. Our conclusion is also that Broussard stuck to his normal schtick, suffering no great losses as he had nothing to lose going into the debate. Sofia Fraser would have won easily had she kept her cool, as many people agree that implying that Broussard was less intelligent than her, made her seem a tad arrogant, which gave Broussard the ability to play 'victim' while defending himself as well as answering the questions.

Rep. Hubert Broussard's Office

After arriving back at his office from the debate, he sent out three notes, one to Senate Majority Whip Earl Boone, one to Rep. Elizabeth Williams, and one to Senator Joshua Sharp.

Dear Senator Boone,

I'd like to talk to you about some Senate proceedings as well as your Presidential Campaign, call when you can, or send me a Telegram for a date and time to meet with you over a beer.

Mrs. Williams,

I'd like to talk to you about some House Proceedings as well as my noticing of you staring at me during my debate with Senator Fraser, call when you can, or come to my office.

Sharp,

You old ass inbred horse-screwer, I expected you to be at the debate and I didn't see you, asshole. Call when you can or come to my office.

Douglas Endorses Brown Jr. Before Returning to Minnesota
Douglas endorses the controversial Civil Rights Activist for Massachusetts 7th District
By: Henry Stafford

Representative Richard Douglas today addressed a small group of reporters in an organized press conference right outside of the House Chamber. In which he announced that he would be endorsing James Brown Jr. a controversial Civil Rights activist and Chairman of the National Negros Right Coalition for a house seat in Massachusetts 7th District.

"Today I address you in outside of this sacred chamber that is the House of Representatives. This chamber and these halls have seen his the course of history, and as I stand here before you all today, I feel the weight of history fall upon me. Our Founding Fathers made the House of Representatives the chamber of congress that was essentially the people's chamber. While the Senators would be appointed by State Legislatures, the Representatives of the House of Representatives would be directly elected the populace, and while the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution allowed for the direct election of Senators. It was always the House that in touch with the common people, with all four-hundred and thirty-five members of the House of Representatives. The House was always more localized and members more approachable than the Senate. The point that I am getting at is the House has always been a more accurate representation of the general populace by sheer size and numbers. I believe that James Brown Jr. will be a representative that will serve the people of Massachusetts' 7th District, that can walk among these hallowed halls of history, and walk among those who have gone down as Members of Congress, and who have served their people this chamber behind me and have truly made an impact on this world. I believe that he can not only be a representative for the black community, but for all citizens of Massachusetts' 7th District, no matter your race, your gender, your age, or your life standing, I believe that James Brown Jr. will be a representative for you, someone you will serve you in this chamber behind me, and always keep your interests at heart."

This announcement came as somewhat of a surprise as people didn't expect a no name representative endorse a fiery and often divisive Civil Rights activist for high office. When asked about some of his anger issue and seemingly hatred of whites to some Douglas said this.

"We all have our checkered pasts and we can't expect everyone to have a perfect record. But I can tell you this James Brown Jr. is a man who is willing to work with others to get legislation passed, he will always keep the best interests of all of his constituents no matter their race, or otherwise, in mind. But I think we need to acknowledge that this is a man who grew up seeing the injustice against his own people, and there is immense anger that may come from that."

This announcement came as Douglas was preparing to return home to Minnesota to attend a town hall and other community meetings, as well as meet with state legislators to discuss the 23rd amendment that Minnesota legislators will be voting on. He announced that he would be traveling back to Minnesota as there were no bills in the house docket, when asked about his own bill the Workplace and College Inclusion Act, that was tabled earlier this month Douglas said this:

"After the tabling of the Workplace and College Inclusion Act, I think that we need to take time to regroup and reconsider before we come back on this bill. I think we need to address some of the concerns people may have about this bill, and we need some time to cool off, before we come back to reconsider this bill, and I assure you we will take up this bill, eventually."

Cedar Grove,Mississippi
January 28th, 1959

"I wish I was in the land of cotton, old times there are not forgotten,
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land where I was born in, early on a frosty mornin',
Look away, look away, look away, Dixie Land.

Then I wish I was in Dixie, hooray! hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll take my stand to live and die in Dixie,
Away, away, away down South in Dixie,
Away, away, away down South in Dixie!"

The energetic mood of the crowd brought a smile to Velma. The elderly woman poliety waved as she nervously stared out at the hundreds of locals, neighbors and constituent supporters of the Mississippian politican. Her husband was running late, so Trevor W. Chamberlain, the campaign manager, was forced to stall with stale jokes and bad sexist humor that would be more fitting to come out of the old man's mouth rather than his political lackey and nuturer.
"Thank Y'all Southspring High Band for that rousin' chat o' Dixie! My, you'd think that bein' such a help would land yer ass somewhere? Apparently you're stuck with campaign rallies for Mississippi's oldest national resource!"
The crowd roared with laugher at the corny joke and slight stab at the Senator's age. The old man didn't seem to mind it all that much, at least that's what Chamberlain thought in the instances he had met the man when not drunk off his ass or yelling at skirt in his Senate chambers.

"Now, I'm sad to say that Mississippi, no, America's favorite racist old grandpa needed to help out one of his neighbors again. Mrs. Willma's grain elevator was on the fritz, so Sharp simply swooped in and signed a personal campaign check of a hundred dollars to have it repaired! In fact, Sharp on the way over here, helped out a young couple of teenage broads outta a burnin' chevy! Theyms was amaze-ed at the Senator's quick movements, movements which shall ensure his ultimate victory come next November! The Senator is a local and national hero! He's the end all to end all senators of Mississippi! When they look up "criminal" in the dictionary, a portrait of our senator will be placed front and cent-what? Who the hell wrotes this garbage? Uh..."

Before the man could fully question who had sabotaged his preliminary speech, he was knocked off the stage, hurtling himself into the crowd as Senator Sharp impatiently tossed his campaign manager off into the crowd, who only reacted enough to avoid hurting the man's two foot drop from the wooden platform.

"Howdy. Sorry 'bout that Trevor, better luck next time. Now, I feel proud of what I've don-sorry, what WE'VE done for Mississippi! I about near talked their ears off, eh? Am I not doin' nothin' for my people? I ask on the Governor, Governor Fredricks, what in the sam hell has HE done for the people of Mississippi! Hell, once I've secured another term, I might even just run for governor a year after my third term's up in '66! That I can be fine and or dandy with and I'll then retire from politics after two terms in Jackson's mansion. That'll mean I'll be done-done with Politics in the year 1975. At that age, I will be eighty seven years old. I've got the next seventeen years of my political career all planned out infronta me! Once we've taken Fred to the cleaners next August or July, then I want y'all to remember this speech when I run that Governor out of a job in '67! Like it or not, this old Senator will enjoy the governorship of the Mangolia State in eight years! I am a man with limited ambitions, all them with the ultimate goal of fucking y'all over! Y'all meanin' the slimey stinkin' negro apes that pollute Mississippi and other states of the deep south!

I see it as simply diving both races. The White race is absolutely prohibited from eating at negro restaurants, playin' at negro tennis courts and watchin' negro films! The same standard is applied to the African Senegambians! Those buck toothed, black skinned idjits ain't not never permitted in the same side as a proper white woman, nor are they allowed to stand in front of a good white man when he's crossin' the street, as is HIS right! I have my public campaign manifesto, my senate campaign manifesto mind y'all, not the presidential one:"

Senator Sharp then pulls out a folded up piece of paper from his pocket and sticks a thick set of reading glasses on his face, squinting at the paper before reading what was on it to the crowd.

"When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary to abolish the Negro race, proper methods should be used. Among these are guns, bows, arraws, sling shots, cars, tanks ,aircraft, nuclear weapons and spears.

We hold these truths to be self evident, that all caucasians are created equal with certain inanlieable rights; among these are life, liberty, smoking weed and the pursuit of dead negroes!"

The crowd enthuisastically cheered, jeered and hollard, no doubt a side effect of the dime-cheap booze that Sharp's campaign had provided as a means to raise funds. Senator Sharp then bends down to shake each and every white hand, while taking notice on the other side of the stage there had been an area set aside for african supporters of Sharp. The crowd was noticably more reserved in contrast to their lighter skinned redneck cousins. It was also heavily outnumbered, with just 25 african americans against the 975 white supporters of the Mississippian Senator. The negros over there still cheered at what limited economic prowess the Mississipi senator had boasted of creating himself (efforts best represented by the governor's economic policies on the state-wide level rather than Sharp's vauge promises to 'counties'), though remained numb throughout his tirad against them.

"I'm also pleased to say that I got legislation, actual legislation, passed in the Senate, and just found out today that the House passed it and it's goin' for President Davis's desk. What is it? It is a beautiful piece of legislation that establishes a Peace Corps! The best way I'd describe it, as an organization that'll go to war torn countries and actually do minature (not-Marshall plans), but throw the money at credible organizations rather than bands of maurauding gangs. I tell y'alls, I do do things other than simply just barkin' at President Davis for eight years, I vote on legislation, help pass bills that help mississippians and fit in so much pork in the large spendin' bills in my committee hearin's that you'd mistake it for a bbq sandwich! It only seems fittin' that the goods n' services now provided by my campaign include some of the juiciest three day old pork grinds and pig guts a man can get from a shady buisnessman offloading the goods in some sketchy flatboat in Mississippi. Folks, I'd ask to see a doctor from this, I may or mayv'nt poisioned y'alls!

Make sure when Fredrick's campaign bus comes 'round the corner, y'alls sets it ablaze and kick the livin' shit outa thems! But, make sure the officer nearby 'understands' your frustrations with the governors policies by throwing him a twenty his way so he won't say nothin' to nobody. Money's my best friend, next to all y'all inbred hillbillies in Mississippi! Remember, I've delivered y'all fairly good results, my office door's always open for constituent concerns and y'all can reach me on the horn after a layer or two a chattin'! I love this state, I hate it's dumbass white trash, but I love me some rich folks, middle folks and slightly lesser off folks. 'member, the poor's there to spooken the shit outta the middle class! 'member, fear the livin' shits outta y'ers neighbors , mmm k? Wonderfully Spelndied!"

However, the crowd then got a bit too drunk, a bit too rowdy in some instances.. first it began with small boulders and childish spitballs by young white kids agaisnt the tiny crowd of blacks. Then it got a bit worse with more choice words and even choosier projectiles being hurtled at the small crowd of blacks. Then the small picket fence was smashed to bits as the large White mob raced agaisnt the fraction of black supporters of Sharp (all on the senator's payroll of course).

Sharp felt enraged at the incident. Not because he had a moral compass or had finally confessed to Senator Warsawchowski about not being racist, rather, he was incensed that his supporters were dogpiling each other. He expected the negros not to be provoking the large crowd of whites anyways! He loathed for the sitution to be nothing more than another throw about brawl, but before he could protest, his campaign manager tugged on the old Senators arm and he was whisked away to the automobile, driving away from the unfair fight.

U.S Senate Offices of Joshua Norman Sharp (Mississippi)
January 29th, 1959

Senator Sharp flicked on the light in the normally dark room. It had been another long, lonley drive all by himself to the capital. He didn't mind the long drive to and from his work, though he certainly missed those days where he was a humble farmer, not having to worry about what complete strangers felt or what minute concerns about taxes were thrown at the Mississippian, who was known for having a complete aversion to arrithmatic type questions and answers. Still, the job paid enough for him to hire the closest things he could to slaves without having to legally call them slaves. Interns! He could berate the stupid high school dropouts all he wanted, and he even gut punched a few of them when they brought him the wrong coffee or mcDonalds order.

Honestly, for the Mississippi Senator, he could easily afford the victory lap which he had gloatfully done last night. He was able to boast of bipartisanship with the Peace Corps Act, partisanship with his attempt at a Filibuster, and good old fashioned racism all in the same sentence! He dropped the local newspaper on his desk while he waited for everyone else to get their ass to the Senate. He thought he saw that one senator from Ohio, knew he passed by the Senator from Arkansas, had to apologize for spilling coffee on the Senator from...what state was it? Even Sharp had forgotten, but he sure knew the man was an asshole for berating the Mississippian for his trademark clumsiness. Maybe he could run the bastard over in his prized jalopy on his way out of the office? The thought crossed his mind, mostly as a joke with a goofy grin spreading over Sharp's face like cream cheese on a bagel.
"Hell... that'd be the day. I'd be in the slammer fo' sure, but I'd like to see the look on that bastard's face when I press on the goddamned gas!"
"Josh?"
"It's Joshua, but Josh is-who the hell are you?" Sharp's face turned to see a short man dressed up in a bowler hat, striped suit with a purple tie. His eyes were a faint green, and his face looked like he had walked into a wall.
"Oh, I'm Tyrone Billsouth. At your service as an intern."
Sharp's eyes widened at that.
"Oh, Hot damn, I got me a negro slave!"
"I'm white, Senator."
"Then I got me a white slave!"
"I'm an intern, I'm getting valueble experince here-"
"Bitch, I have been on this earth for, hell just gawkin' at y'all, fifty years more than you have. What fuckin' thing do y'all expect to gits from a job where y'all fill me my coffee, polish my boots and clean out the toilet?"
"Toilet? I thought we had janitors for that?"
Sharp's face twisted into an unsettling smile before he opened up a drawer with a plunger and a roll of toilet paper.
"I can't control my bowles sometimes, so I got a bucket in the corner. I'll throw away whatever-"
"I get the picture!" Tyrone quickly interrupted Sharp from finishing the sentence.
"Good. Yer on shit patrol. Welcome to the United States Senate, after that, you'll take me through who'm I'm meetin. Ferst off, letters?"
Tyrone rummaged through his jacket before handing the Senator a letter, saying:
"You've got a message from Representative Broussard."
Sharp's stomach churned. He was sure that Senator Boone and him could agree on one thing, it's that Broussard was one mean, spitefull little bastard. He hated that man. He was as rude as him, if not more so, and the way he was so..so, left leaning, he actually wanted poor people to vote? Then he had the audacity to suddenly switch sides and want to kill the bill? Sharp at least tried to stick with an issue, no matter how much he was bullied. Hell, Broussard had found that out the hard way. Broussard to Sharp was a folding house of cards to the old Mississippian. After a few moments, he took in a deep breath, snatching the message from the intern and sitting down at his desk, throwing the coat on the coat rack right by the door in the Senate Office.

"This is not the kind of asshole I wanna be chattin' with right now, but I suppose I can feign niceness for a moment or two."
Picking up the reciver, he looked at the glued down, faded blue list of every senator's office phone number to contact. At the very top of the list was Majority Leader Earl Boone, and at the very bottom was Warsawchowski, a recent addition (at least to him).

"Excuse me, is this Representative Broussard?"
"Broussard? You're mistaken Sharpie, I'm the Senator from Louisiana, he's in the House, not the Senate, not yet anyways if that man has anything to do about it..."
"Christ, does EVERYONE call me Sharpie?"
"Only the ones who like to piss you off."
"Feelin's mutual you inbred ass licker, fuck you!"
Trying the other Louisianan number, all he got was an earful of obscenities and childish insults from both of his frenchified neighbors before he sighed, dropping his head on the desk.

"Lousiana don't got no Huey, no siree bobs... Why can't I find my mutually hateful 'fren'? Y'all know that feelin', whatever your name was?"
"Tyrone, Senator."
"Nope, Not goin' t' 'member that many syllabus, I'll call y'all T from now on, ok Y?"
"T, senator."
"Right, T. Why ain't this here phone workin' is it busted or somethin'?"
Tyrone then snatched a paper from the walls in Sharp's office that had every single house member.
"Senator, Broussard's not in the Senate. He's a member of the House."
Joshua Sharp shot himself an embarrassed look, chalking the excuse up to him not having his morning coffee yet and driving all night to get to Congress for his meetings.
"S-shit. Sorry 'bout that T. I'm deader than my horse. I is tired now!"

Inhaling deeply between his nose and taking in a metric crap ton of cigarette smoke from one he had just lit to 'help with his nerves', he dialed the right number for once and spoke into it.

"Old Huey? Hubert? It's Sharp you goddamned bastard. I just got yer massage! What the hell is it you want from me? This 'bout the Debate, cause 'f so, I still haven't gotten the chance to see it. I've been very busy bein' on vacation from my sentorial duties on the hill!"

"Well, mostly I was wanting to make small talk, not like I have a job to do or anything." Broussard said with a strained voice, "Of course I wanted to talk about the debate, dumbass. Plus, I got a bill I wanted you to hear about, it's called the Moo Moo Yummy Act. It'll cap the cost of our milk and butter for the poor folk, can't afford t'pay too much cash money for their breakfast foods."

"Wait, there was a Debate? Wasn't that between you and the senator from Pennsylvania, Warsawchowski? I haven't been keepin' up with thems news lately. I've been busy with a nice lil' ol victory lap with my filibuster in delayin' that there bill in the Senate. It'll cap the cost of milk n' butter for poor folk? The only way I'd support it is if you're also helpin' out the farmers that sell the milk and butter, cause then you'd be cuttin' out their profits. I want subsidies to cover the losses they might have gotten once this bill comes into ' e fect. Say a farmer has to invest, and for easy math let's say 100 dollars for a stick of butter. If the poor can afford the cap, but if it's screwin' over the farmer in having him lose that investment since y'all decided to be a dumbass and cap that there amount. Don't that screw over the farmer and the consumer?"

Sharp took a brief sip of water before continuing.

"I'd need subsidies for the small farms just so they're not feelin' like this bill is going to screw over their production when it comes to cheese and dairy. Farmers are poor too, y'know."

Broussard asked flatly, "Anyway, Senator, I assume Milk and Butter ain't no five dollars, right now. What our cap does is limit the price for 'round about a year or two...or three. Nobody is currently paying this price, and if they are, it behooves me to say, it's highway robbery. The farmers are fine, we don't want to give 'em too much, or else they'll try to label us as socialists even if we're helping them."

Sharp laughed.
"Oh, Huey, I'm seventy years old. Things are startin' to break. I think my minds beginin' to go now. At least I 'member yer name Huey. If you happen to git in my age, I'd say I told y'all so. Old age's a bitch. But It's a fun old bitch. If need be, I'll check into a 'stitution, alright with y'all Howard, or Bechamell, Huey? I'll name ya Hubert. I don't even remember if I saw a debate, or if I did see one, or what color my shit was last night. I think dark blue so I'll need to see someone 'bout that."

Sharp takes a small gulp of water before clearing his throat.

"I'm thinkin' of workin' on a bill to raise that there price, but only in times of war. That'll mean now thanks to the idiots that got us now bogged down an' involved in Indochina. Troops'll love ham 'course, so we'll give the farmers a bit of an incentive for that part. Mmmm, godamn godamn, I want some ham! Sorry Huey if I'm all over the place, I drive all night from a late night hootenanny in Mississippi to the chambers here. I'll need a long ass nap after this conversation. I don't frankly care if the farmers say they don't not want nothin, I was a farmer, hell still am a farmer. Farmers always need help. That's what I've been elected to do, and that's what I'm gonna do, is help out thems farmer folks. Not them negro farmers, fuck them! Just git the subsidies in the bill ,then I'm onboard like flies on a pile a shit!"

"Senator," Hubert sighed, "You know me, and you know my bill is my bill, and my bill is a damn good one. I ain't putting no subsidies on the sum bitch, because my constituents say they don't need subsidies, they just want their milk and butter with their toast or cornbread. If you don't want to sign onto that, then i think our conversation is over. Go watch the debate, and if I hear you got any plans on acting against my bill, my folks are going to start acting against you, if you know what I mean." Broussard chuckled, "Good day, Senator."

Sharp tightly gripped the phone.
"I may be an old-fashioned senator, but I'll see to it this bill's torpedoed in the Senate, or possibly with some changes in 'mitte. Come hell or high water, if it don't got no subsidies for the poor old farmers n' growes, I'll talk it to death or I'll vote against it. Hell, with the shit I done did the other day, I'll save you some trouble Huey and just vote against it. I won't even talk that much. That's the only nice thing I'll do for you y' goddamned respectable bastard.

Oh hell, the way I'm actin' I won't have long to watch the debate, I'll be too busy with Seven more years sittin my thin tall ass in this seat! Goodbye Huey."

In an effort to set the political conversation, the Fraser Campaign announces it's first policy platform, to be followed up with more specifics at a later date.

    • Foreign Policy:

      • Global offensive against communism, using of hard power through military force when feasible and engage in soft power efforts, everywhere else.
        • Ensure a military that is sufficiently funded and staffed to wage an offensive war against communism.
      • Maintain a hard border, with full control over all immigration.
        • Provide an alternative to deportation for adult male illegal immigrants to join the military and serve a satisfactory length of time overseas, after which they gain citizenship, along with an equivalent option for female illegal immigrants to serve a satisfactory length of time in the peace corps overseas.
      • Emphasis on foreign development programs instead of simply foreign aid programs, with the intent of creating an environment for American businesses to invest overseas to fuel our own economy, decrease migration and unroot the seeds of communism by encouraging environments of healthy free markets and free enterprise.

    • Social Security Reform:

      • Lock in and adjust with inflation existing social security payments.
      • Remove cap on FICA and SECA contributions.
      • Create Federal Permanent Fund, to which FICA and SECA would pay into for the purpose of investing in the equity of publicly traded companies
      • The Federal Permanent Fund will be prohibited from exercising share voting rights and will adjust it's self to maintain a balanced stake in all it's investments to avoid distorting the market.
      • Dividends from shares are to be used to first pay for pension commitments, with the rest going to the treasury.

    • Public Service and Welfare Reform:
      • Create a national employee benefits program, particularly for health care and workplace injury insurance, to keep all businesses, big or small, competitive in hiring employees when they are unable to more effectively provide their own programs.
      • Streamline anti-poverty programs by building around the FREE Act
      • Expand access to childcare for working women and therefore increase our economic and military capacity through increasing women's participation in the Labor force by building around the FORTIFY Act

    • Tax Reform:

      • Abolition of the corporate tax and replacing it with a Share tax on all publicly traded corporations, backing a constitutional amendment on equity taxation.
        • Foreign companies operating in the US will be required create subsidiaries for the purpose of paying this publicly traded equity tax,
        • Taxed shares are placed in the aforementioned United States Permanent Fund.
      • Incentivize states to reduce and eliminate sales taxes, particularly on needs.

    • Agricultural Reform:

      • Merging of the Farmers Home Administration and Federal Crop Insurance Corporation into a general purpose Agricultural Bank that provides financially sound loans without imposing federal directives on farmers
      • Phasing out of existing expenditures on Agricultural grants and subsidies and replacing them with food stamps targeted at those below the poverty line so that the subsidy of agriculture is directed by consumer choice instead of by the federal government.
      • Review the Soil Conservation and Domestic Allotment Act to take the federal government out of the business of telling farmers how to manage their payrolls.

    • Union Reform:

      • Tackle corruption and communist influence in unions
      • Prevent the misuse of worker's funds
      • Guarantee secret elections of officers
      • Prohibit coercive practices that harm the public.
      • Fight against featherbedding

    • Energy:

      • Cut red tape and facilitate the full exploitation of our gas and oil reserves to create new jobs and fuel our economy and military.
      • Invest in nuclear energy production, expanding the use electric rail and eventually reserving gas and oil usage for heating homes, air travel, personal vehicles and the military.

    • Education and Science:

      • Increase NASA expenditure to 3% of the federal Budget
        • Set yearly accomplishment targets for NASA, to overtake and widen a lead over the Soviets in the Space Race.
        • Provide a greenlight for research and development of advanced forms of in atmosphere and space propulsion.
      • Ensuring all those who are academically qualified will receive free tuition with income support to Universities and Colleges.
      • Expand retraining and continuing education for employment by building around the FREE Act

    • Law, Order and Civil Rights

      • Ensure that merit is the ultimate decider of access to education, employment, consumption and the outcome of the law, by prohibiting unwarranted discrimination by race, color, creed, sex, nationality, age or income in all sectors, public or private.
      • Wage a war on the leadership of organized crime, be it the mob, drug dealers, or the Klan, while suppressing disorganized crime through anti-poverty efforts, rehabilitation programs and enhanced the federal governments coordination with law enforcement

James had been sitting in his home office doing close to nothing when his wife, Cora, knocked on the door.

“Come in.”, James called out.

As Cora stepped in, she held an envelope in her hand. “You’ve got mail.”, Cora said.

“I do? Who’s it from?”

“Someone names Elizabeth Williams.” Cora looked at James. “You’re not cheating on me, are you?”, she said jokingly.

“Hush, of course not.”, James said, chuckling. Cora handed him the envelope, which James opened. He and Cora read the letter, and a pleased expression came to their faces.

“So is it a yes from you?”, James asked.

“Yes. Are you okay with it?”

“If you are, yeah.”

“Okay with what?”, their 11 year old son, Darryl spoke up. He had been walking past the room and couldn’t help but overhear James and Cora’s conversation. Cora and James both looked at him, then each other. Cora’s face seemingly said “what do we tell him”, and James ultimately decided to tell him the truth.

“Well...a very nice lady from Michigan has invited us to stay at her house for a bit.”, James told Darryl.

“So, it’s like a road trip?”

“Basically, yeah.”

A smile came to Darryl’s face. He’d always been interested in travel, considering his father traveled quite often. Now he’s get a chance at getting to see other places, not that Boston was bad, but he’d lived there his whole life, and as you could imagine, it got a bit old after a while.

“Alright!”, Darryl exclaimed, excited.

Cora smiled, as she hadn’t seen Darryl that excited about something in a while.

“So do we start packing?”, she asked James.

“Sure, absolutely.”, James replied.

“Alright. Come on, Darryl, start packing. I’ll tell your sister the good news.”

As the two of them left the room, James was once again alone. He’d start packing eventually, but first, he wanted to send a message back to Williams.

To: Elizabeth Williams
From: James Brown, Jr.

Dear Mrs. Williams,

We’d be more than happy to accept your invitation into your home. Thank you for your willingness to take our family into your home. Your friendliness is much appreciated and won’t be taken for granted. See you soon.

Warm regards,

James Brown, Jr.

Senator Sharp Speaks in Birmingham, Alabama
Says "No Winners, only Losers" in Broussard-Fraser Debate

Campaign publicly unveils expanded policy positions and proposals of candidate.

By Mordecai Flanders
January 29th, 1959
Presidential candidate and Senator Joshua Sharp hits the campaign trail again, though he has mostly stuck to Southern states so far in his Presidential run. According to sources within the campaign, they intend to go on a "March through Dixie" with the Senator, explaining his campaign positions more thoroughly while also boasting of his recent political successes within the Senate in Mississippi as reasons to bolster his senatorial re-election campaign next year.

Following a cramped meet and greet with voters inside a classic American diner, to which his comments on the food were "terrible" and "my blind grandpa could cook better than these Senegambian buffoons".
Following breakfast, the Senator was then taken to a local high school, where he spoke at length about a slew of topics. The gymnasium was filled with several thousand people, much to the chagrin of the local fire department, who was "furious" at the lack of safety taken within the gymnasium. Senator Sharp himself ascended a rickety looking platform from an even shoddier looking staircase (according to at least one eyewitness).

"Thank you Alabama! This is my sweet home, it's my neighbor. I have lived next to my neighbors all my life it seems, and I have never ever failed to share such kindness and generosity with them. It is the same kindness I share with your pair of senators, I would call them some of my favorite people, if I ever learned their names of course!

Jokes 'side. I'm pleased to say I just read 'bout that there debate. Who here listened t' the debate? Only one? Ok, who heard about that there debate between mr. louisiana and mrs. Newer york? A lot more now? Boy, look at all those hands! Y'all could give me a nasty-butt high-five with that!

Now, while I loathe both Mrs. New York and Mr. Louisiana, I've gotta put it to Mr. Huey Louey, he was called out for his blatant flip-flopping on such an issue like the poll-tax! I do not respect men or women who change their minds just to play politics. I respect those people who hold opinions that were once popular and still hold onto such opinions even when they become unpopular, like wanting to reinstate slavery, for example! I understand unearthin' new information and gettin' new perspectives on issues, why, that's part of growing up. You think when I was a snot nosed, diaper wearin' baby in the late 19th century I had a firm grasp on protectionism and tariffs? No, I was too busy picking my nose to care about the price of a stick of gum gettin' higher because of protective tariffs on 'murican' and 'pean goods!

I would have backed Huey Louey more, if he hadn'ta said five lil' poisonous words to my ears: President Davis, bless his heart. Are you kiddin' me with this here bullcrap?! Huey had better damn remember he wasn't elected as a republican, if I recall correctly he was elected as a democrat! You're suppos'ta be fightin' President-no, KING Davis and his band of clowns, beggars and thieves that currently are held up in the white castle, sneerin' down at workin' folks like the one percent, workin' folks like the twenty five percent, and workin' folks like the upper but not so dirt poor poor class! You can't not never bless the hearts of men who lack one! Henry's heartless, souless and clueless on everything from domestic policy to foreign affairs!

Mrs. New York? Oh, poor, poor madam manhattan. She frankly wasn't that co-ordinated. Wasn't it 'her time of the month' anyhow? Was that why she seemed to lash out at Mr. Louisiana! I say this as Mr. Mississippi in this here conversation. I know they all have names. No I won't refer to them properly, it's easier for my old brain to refer to them as mr or mrs state name. While It pains me to say this, I agree with Brouss-I mean Mr. Louisiana on the poll tax thing. I disagreed with him first, but then all of a sudden, he's now FOR it? Come on now Mr. Broussard, have some morals, have some skin in the game.

I wouldn't've minded disagreeing with you, but now you wanna reach out for MY help, reach out for MY endorsement? Oh yeah, I think he endorsed me, or maybe I'm just going senile. Heck if I know f'sure! In that debate, there was no real winners, the only loser was America in knowing that the choices in the next president lie with a man who switches positions more times than there are pages in the holy bible, or a woman. I don't need to go into much detail as to explain to you why mrs. fragile mc new york lady would be a terrible choice as commander-in-chief. She dosen't have the GUTs to press the button and send the price of vodka through the roof, along with the vodka!

As for the ongoing conflict in Indochina, I have to say I respect many a good member of the armed forces, hell, I'm probably one of the few people standing here before you that can say I fought in a trench in France. No, I wasn't in the Ardennes Offensive. No, I never saw a Panzer tank in my life fighting there, No I didn't see german wunderwaffen fly into the channel- I was in World War I, not Two! That clear it up? You people have hardly heard of the First World War? Well, just because It's my pet issue, I'll see to it that federal dollars are encouraged to go to schools and districts that spend at least two days on America's involvement in World War One rather than just a ten minute blurb on the projector, some written assignment in the textbook and then march onto the roaring twenties! Heck, I'm just mad that I fought in a war to end all war- NO THAT WAS NOT THE CIVIL WAR DO I LOOK THAT OLD TO YOU?!! Sorry 'bout that outburst you young idjit, I gits mad sometimes when I speeks clearlies.

Now, as to the war in Indochina, I shall make this vague, political statement: 'I support the previous administration's policies in Vietnam by (Not Truman)'s sending of a few military advisors. I am more ambivalent as to fully backing the efforts of the incumbent administration, but I will be encouraged to personally fly into Indochina for a state visit on general combat situations with local ground troops.' I said local ground troops, not those higher ups who've never held a rifle in their darned lives! They coasted off of daddy's connections and royalties to get a cushy desk job signin' papers blowin' young boys up! It's not right! If you're goin' to 'nam, you ought to do your fair share! I say this as a darn tootin' proud Mississippian, confederate and american veteran!"

In response to the Fraser Campaigns more detailed platform, the Sharp campaign has released the following campaign document detailing Senator Sharp's stances on various political issues.

  • Economy: Repeal the FORTIFY and FREE acts passed by congress by proposing legislation in the Senate with respect to overturning the "meat and potatoes" of both bills. Seek to immediately enact such appropriate legislation, nicknamed the WEAKEN and CHAIN acts.

  • Institute a policy of "de-facto" Segregation throughout the United States, though with respect to local state governments and their noted cultural differences and varied histories of miscegenation. A Sharp administration will not publicly condemn states who have not followed through with Brown v. Board of Education, though it will not publicly court or seek the support of schools or politicians who have been in favor of 'race mixing'.
  • Grant states economic incentives to raise revenue taxes in exchange for higher individual rates for persons making less than 30,000 per year.

  • Encourage the federal reserve and the appropriate economic boards to give federal funds, grants and loans to states that actively pass segregation ordinances, laws, court orders and other segregationist measures.
  • Set up the DIXIE board, or Directory of Interstate Xenophobia, Integration and Education. This board shall be the defining judge on monetary payments to the states that pass segregation laws within their boarders, varying from individual county ordinances to full on declarations by both state legislative chambers in passing legislation to that regard and with the vigorous approval of the state executive branch and their respective governors.
  • The Board shall be made up of 13 former state governors, major politicians or federal officials that shall meet in order to vote on and debate on the release of federal funds, bonds and grants to individual counties, towns, municipalities, farms, individuals and state governments.
  • A Sharp Presidential administration shall seek to abolish the following New Deal Programs and Policies:

    Federal Housing Administration
    Federal Deposit Insurance Commission
    Fair Labor Standards Act
    Railroad Retirement Board

  • A Sharp Presidential administration shall seek to greatly reduce funding, look into privatization, staff requirements or the overall mission scopes of the following New Deal Programs, Cabinet positions, etc:

Securities and Exchange Commission- Replaced by the Stock Investigative Bureau as an economic arm of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to root out and charge individuals or companies involved in extra-legal activities.
  • A Sharp Presidential administration shall seek to expand the overall mission statements, priorities, funding and objectives for the following New Deal Program:
Tennessee Valley Authority- to be renamed the Mississippi River Authority, or MRA, but to maintain any and all previous functions, personnel, mission objectives and general management as the previous Tennessee Valley Authority.

    Foreign Affairs:
  • Vietnam: Joshua Sharp will consult with top-ranking military leaders, then personally conduct an investigation into combat operations in Indochina with a sweeping investigation on the military's conduct of the war. Strategies will be put in place in an attempt to minimize casualties, and have a smooth general operation for an offensive into Indochina.

Ultimate consultation and planning will be with general staff and the joint-chiefs, with execution being only ordered on the direct word of the President, with consultation and general concurrence with both the House of Representatives and Senate in a closed session of the legislative branch to prevent confidential information from leaking out.

General timeline will be 7 to 21 days, after which time, another month shall be used to publish a final report in the Senate on the government's conduct and overall effectiveness of the War in Indochina and Vietnam. Should the final report be deemed unsatisfactory with respect to the military's actions and predicts that prolonging or escalation of the conflict will lead to inconclusive results, President Sharp will order a "measured and steady" withdrawal of all combat forces from Vietnam by 1962.
  • Cuba: Will not rule out direct military involvement, potentially with nuclear weapons as either a first or last resort in the face of overwhelming communist firepower agaisnt Batista. Seek a diplomatic solution first with a potential division of the Island of Cuba into a communist east and anti-communist regime in the West, with the capital city of Havana being divided into western and eastern parts.
  • China: Continue to aggressively defend the rightful Republic of China from the illegal mainland Chinese state, potentially with the sale of nuclear weaponry to be utilized by Chinese forces in better enforcing their national sovereignty and to act as a well needed deterrent against communist cross-strait aggression by the Communist Party of China.

    Environment:

    Conservation Efforts:
  • Open up 66.66% of all Natural Forests to private usage. Will seek to define private usage as "any and all lands undertaken either by private developers, corporations and other such bodies as defined by the legislative and judicial branches of government." Notable public areas exempt from this include Yellowstone National Park and the Redwoods, owing to their lucrative incomes with respect to Wyoming and California respectively.
  • Shall enlist the assistance of the general youth not involved with respect to the war in Vietnam or being "wastes on society" in lacking a general purpose in life. Programs like this will give these young men and women three main things, a roof over their heads as they go out into the cruel, cruel world, a decent income, and a sense of general purpose, at least for a little while until something bad happens again.
  • Establish the General Working Army, or GWA. It's main objective will be to undertake massive construction, upgrade, maintenance and toll collection of roads, waterways and general public communication centers. It shall be in charge of maintaining, testing and researching out either old methods or new ways of communication, and shall work with members of the federal bureaucracy or senate committees to effectively gauge public support and or feasibility of such proposals, should ones be proposed by either the general public or by people who know what it is they are doing half the time.

    Civil Rights:
  • A Sharp Presidency shall seek to compensate those wrongfully convicted of lynching, looting, stealing and shooting folks in instances of religious deliriousness, mental instability, stress, paranoia and racism, should the prosecution not appeal decision of the presidency via the court system within 2 to 4 business days.
  • A Sharp Presidential administration will begin to appoint special prosecutors in wiping out communist and left-leaning white supremacist organizations and their noted political affiliates, with noted exemptions at a later specified date. Said prosecutors shall be tasked with bringing criminals who have terrorized unlawfully and sought to wreak chaos and communist confusion within the United States. The administration will work closely with the CIA and FBI to identify problem areas and to pacify them with suitable and reasonable force within the letter of constitutional law and procedures already established, with respect to the rights of states and local governments. However, should investigations prove to be funded and or influenced by fascist civil rights activists, then the Sharp administration shall press charges against those which have illegally slandered good men of the cloth with notions of 'red painting'.
  • A Sharp Presidential administration shall contemplate measures within Congress and via executive order in overturning or getting the 13th Amendment to the Constitution either turned toothless or passing another constitutional amendment that shall repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments, and to encourage ratification efforts of such a potential constitutional amendment.

    Educatin' n' 'Rithmetic:
  • Abolish the National Air and Space Administration, instead leaving the overall burden in rocket science, jet propulsion, aerodynamic principles of science and experimental orbitrey of the planet's surface in the hands of the United States Air Force, falling under the joint-chiefs of staff. with the penultimate goal being to land a Mississippian and New Yorker on the Moon by the year 1964.
  • A general side budget to the USAF's space program and related functions will be estimated to be no greater than 0.9% of the national GDP or general budget of 1961, increasing to 1.2% in 1962, then up again to 1.5% in 1963, then again to 1.8% in 1964 with all future planetary expeditions being financed with no more than a 2% cap on federal spending for the USAF's space program.
  • Abolish lower education in the area of K-12, replacing it with Juvenile Grade (age 10-11) Alligator Grade (11-12) Tiger grade, (12-13) Elephant grade (13-14) Rhino grade (14-15) Snake grade, (15-16) Peacock grade, (16-17) and Harding grade (17-18).

The Fraser Campaign puts out a press release regarding the Milk and Butter Price Support Act or the 'Moo Moo Yummy Act' currently being considered in the US House of Representatives.

The recent Milk and Butter Price Support Act by Representative Broussard, a proposal to have the federal government impose a price floor on milk and butterfat in every state in our nation, makes it even clearer that it is utterly foolish to treat the "state sovereignty" argument against a poll tax ban amendment made anyone who'd back this bill, as in anyway convincing. Broussard and his like continue to do a poor job hiding behind concerns about state sovereignty, to avoid the blatantly obvious truth that their real aim is the continued disenfranchisement of poor whites and any group who's right to vote has been constitutional promised, yet who might stand in opposition to their corrupt agenda, an agenda unfortunately aided by the rest of the Democratic Party. This only further emphasizes why Governor Fraser has no qualms about supporting the federal enforcement of constitutionally promised voter and civil rights, as the use of federal power to enforce the constitution, as ratified by our states, is more excusable than the use of federal power simply because it is the supreme law of the land.

As for the specific merits of the bill, price floors are ineffective Soviet-esque impositions of governments against the logic of the free market. if the concern is falling demand of a staple product, a better course of action is subsidizing consumer purchase of said product. If the concern is that the price is too low to be profitable, the correct response is providing financial services for capital investment to increase the efficiency of our farms so such a price is profitable. Prices are signals sent by conditions of supply and demand, ignoring them instead of addressing them undermines the foundation of our economy and our advantage over the Soviet Union.

"I have a legitimate question here. Why is this dumb campaign focusing on me, a representative of a small district in the small state of Louisiana, who has no national recognition besides that of which was given to me by the debate? They aren't gaining anything, and if anything they're giving me more attention. Makes no sense. If they'd focus on real issues than squabbling with me, they'd probably be higher in the polls." Broussard said as he read the statement, as he drank his milk whilst eating a piece of buttered toast bread.

We're experiencing some particularly bothersome obstructionism in the Senate, I'd appreciate if you could get some legislation passed through the house first to add additional pressure. The first thing I ask for you to bring the the floor is my Voting Rights Enforcement Act. If Boone and Sharp intend to make the senate a do nothing body, the best thing we can do is show them up for the obstacles to the nation's progress they are.

Douglas makes Weekend Visit back to St. Paul
Attends Town Hall and Community Events, Meets with State Legislators, Talks to Constituents
By: Henry Stafford
January 29, 1959

Landing late Friday evening Representative Richard Douglas returned to his district in St. Paul Minnesota in what was his first visit back to his district since becoming its representative. The freshman congressman has yet to make a name for himself, but from his time so far he proving to be a reliable aye vote on bi-partisan legislation, an ardent anti-segregationist, and a man of common rhetoric.

He spend his Saturday morning privately enjoying his time with his family, he was spotted on a walk with his kids early in the day and was followed by a small entourage of reporters. He was asked a few questions by reporters but he mostly played it safe, keeping his cards close to his chest and tried to dodge most questions.
"How will you move forward with the Workplace and College Inclusion Act?"
"I will be talking to congressional leaders and representatives, to hear their concerns about the bill, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that a good bill ensuring inclusion in the workplace and in higher education is passed."
"Will you support the Moo Moo Yummy Act?"
"Of course farmers like everyone else deserve protection from corporations. But of course like every bill I have to look all sides of the picture and that is what I am doing."
"What did you think of the Broussard-Fraser debate?"
"I watched some of it, of course of all of you know I support the abolition of the poll tax, but I am not in a position to comment on a debate."
"What do you think of Senator Sharp's campaign for President?"
"I don't support him"
"What do you think of the present croft of candidates for President?"
"I think it's a little too early to think about Presidential candidates."
After that Douglas returned home and didn't take anymore questions.

Later in the afternoon Douglas would attend a town hall event where constituents would be able to ask him questions directly. Some of the highlights of the event include when Douglas was asked about U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. This is what he said:
"I have seen first-hand the horrors of war, and that is something that I would not wish upon anyone. That being said, I think that communism, and any ideology that inflict pain and tyranny upon its people, is an ideology that needs to be contained. And I commend the brave soldiers who take the call of duty, and serve valiantly their country. They in too many cases give their lives in the service of their country, they die as martyrs, people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, in service for their country, and that ought to be commended. I supported the sending of troops to Vietnam, we must help in the fight to free country of the shackles of communism, an ideology that they are slaves to, and ideology they need be free from."
When asked about consumer protection and the state of the economy he said this:
"I believe that the economy is strong strengthened by the policies of Franklin Roosevelt and (not Harry Truman). Of course the post-war boom has slowed by some the disastrous policies of President Henry Davis, that will continue and become extreme under a Jackson Presidency. I believe that the economy is strong, but has slowed by President Davis and can grown by a President like Roosevelt, a good liberal, someone who will fight the elites and for the common consumer and worker. I believe consumer protections are necessary to protect consumers from being taken advantage of by large corporations who want to make even more money."
After he was asked about what he thought of segregation and the killing of Gary Guidry he said this:
"I think segregation is an issue, it keeps blacks down in our society, it leaves them poor, and drives them towards crime. That is why the statistics are the way they are, Broussard isn't lying when he says blacks commit more crimes. The conclusions we draw are different though, in order to lift blacks out of a life of crime, we must lift them out of poverty. Poverty that is caused by segregations, blacks don't have the same opportunities as whites and that is why they turn to crime. That is why I introduced the Workplace and College Inclusion Act. In the death of Gary Guidry, I believe it was fueled by the hatred of certain whites against blacks, motivating them to kill them. We are nation deeply divided and we need to find a solution."

The next morning Douglas traveled to the State Legislature to meet with State Legislators, sources say that they discussed the 23rd amendment. An amendment that Douglas supported and that the state legislature will be convening to discuss and possibly ratify. Sources say that Douglas tried to convince state legislators to support the amendment which many of them did.

After that meeting Douglas attended a short noon mass at a local church, after which he met with the priest and parishioners. Before he walked to a nearby park and gave a speech to a small audience.
"Thank you all for coming hear today and hearing this representative ramble on about congressional business and legislation you don't know about. But I think it is important, and it is legislation that will affect all of you and hopefully better your lives. I have devoted my life and career to fighting for the betterment of people's lives, whether that be in the military, the courthouse, or in Congress, I will fight to improve the lives of the common folk, the average American struggling to make ends meet. I usually think of how to improve people's lives and the fundamentals of life for the average American into pillars. The first pillar being money, we live in a society today that values money above all else, you can do almost anything with money today. Unfortunately there those who don't have money and the ugly side of this system begins to appear, for those who don't have money, they do not have the basic necessities in which to live, and thus cannot live. I know what it is like in this situation my mother was unemployed during the Great Depression and my father didn't make enough money to support the three of us. We went without food and the necessities needed for a good quality of life, we suffered and still had to pay the price. For too many Americans today this is the situation they live in, poor, malnourished, and barely holding on. People need to make enough money to live, to live a life in which they are proud of, the American way of life. But for far too many this can't be achieved and they live pay check to pay check, not knowing if they'll to live another day. This situation is somewhat alleviated by the minimum wage, that ensures workers are paid at least a certain amount. To give them money for which they can pay to live. But unfortunately Republicans such as Jonathan Jackson and the Frasers want to get rid of this minimum wage which helps so many of us hang on and be able to pay to live. We must fight to keep the minimum wage. We must fight against these Republicans who want to get rid of the minimum wage and let greedy businessmen decide how much people are paid and if they will be able to live another day"

"The second pillar is conditions to truly live a good life, the American Way of life, to have a good quality of life means to have good conditions both within and without of the workplace. To have a good quality of life you must have a good quality of workplace. Greedy businessmen will often work their employees to death if given the chance. That is why we must not give them the chance. We must allow for more transparency in the workplace and that is why I will introduce a Workplace Investigations Act which will allow the Department of Labor to investigate any workplace if they so choose and allows workers to anonymously inform the Department of Labor of poor working conditions which they will investigate. It also allows the Department of Labor to shutdown workplaces after investigations and maybe even press criminal charges. This will make workplaces more transparent and will close down workplaces that do not have good working conditions."

"The third pillar is freedom, we must have freedom in order to live a free life. We must fight to be free and for others to be free. We must fight this horrid ideology that is communism that free the world from its tyranny. Its tyranny that it control every aspect of its citizen's lives and oppress them too. We must fight to be free from the oppression of businessmen who seek to exploit workers for personal gain. We must fight to build a world where everyone can be free and can choose their own path. That is why I fought in the Second World War, that is why I fought corporate interests in the court room, that is why I supported the Vietnam War, and that is why I will fight corporate interests in Congress."

"The fourth pillar is support, we must support our citizens. We must support and protect our workers, consumers, and yes our farmers. We must support everyone and that is why I will support the Moo Yummy Act, an act that would support our farmers that would give them money, the first pillar. They need support, and I suggest they unionize united and as a collective we are stronger and fight for the pillars more wisely and more efficiently, and not to forget more successfully. We must defend our farmers against corporate interests and let them get their fair share as well. We must help our citizens in their time of need not abandon them. We must provide welfare and other services to them when they need so that they can pay to live. Republicans seek to cut these programs that help the American public when they most need it, they even what to cut regulators like the FDA and give companies free range to deceive consumers, while not even checking for possible fatal side effects."

"The fifth pillar is equality, we must give people an equal opportunity to live a good life. We must ensure that all people have at least an equal opportunity to live a good life to be able to access all of the previously mentioned pillars without regard to race, gender, and anything else of that sort. That is why I introduced the Workplace and College Inclusion Act and that what the bill will do open up opportunities to all peoples. Many see segregation as a necessary force to lower crime, which they say is driven by blacks. Well I say that segregation is what drives crime among blacks, they don't have the opportunities that whites do, they can't pay to live and that why they turn to crime to find a means in which to pay to live."

After making his speech we went to a community meeting in his district office where constituents could voice their concerns and issues they may have been having. Many brought up the confusing land laws and disputes they have been having with their neighbors about building stuff in their backyard, or the complicated permit system. Many brought up higher prices and concerns about inflations. Many talked about the fears they have about the division of the country. While a lot talked about the crumbling infrastructure and failing transportation system. Douglas said he would try to solve all of these issues and announced he would write a Infrastructure Relief Bill.

After the meeting Douglas attended a fundraiser event where people could drop in and speak to him about issues with a little of entertainment that went on into the late evening. Douglas will return to Washington Monday morning to continue with congressional business.

I will get that immediately. Those fools think they can stop this piece of legislation when they will fail miserablely.

Founding of Kate Shelly's Daughters (Ellies)

Kate Shelly
by Eugene J. Hall

Have you heard how a girl saved the lightning express—
Of Kate Shelly, whose father was killed on the road?
Were he living to-day, he'd be proud to possess
Such a daughter as Kate. Ah! 'twas grit that she showed
On that terrible evening when Donahue's train
Jumped the bridge and went down, in the darkness and rain.

She was only eighteen, but a woman in size,
With a figure as graceful and lithe as a doe,
With peach-blossom cheeks, and with violet eyes,
And teeth and complexion like new-fallen snow;
With a nature unspoiled and unblemished by art—
With a generous soul, and a warm, noble heart!

'Tis evening—the darkness is dense and profound;
Men linger at home by their bright-blazing fires;
The wind wildly howls with a horrible sound,
And shrieks through the vibrating telegraph wires;
The fierce lightning flashes along the dark sky;
The rain falls in torrents; the river rolls by.

The scream of a whistle; the rush of a train!
The sound of a bell! a mysterious light
That flashes and flares through the fast falling rain!
A rumble! a roar! shrieks of human affright!
The falling of timbers! the space of a breath!
A splash in the river; then darkness and death!

Kate Shelly recoils at the terrible crash;
The sounds of destruction she happens to hear;
She springs to the window—she throws up the sash,
And listens and looks with a feeling of fear.
The tall tree-tops groan, and she hears the faint cry
Of a drowning man down in the river near by.

Her heart feebly flutters, her features grow wan,
And then through her soul in a moment there flies
A forethought that gives her the strength of a man—
She turns to her trembling old mother and cries:
"I must save the express—'twill be here in an hour!"
Then out through the door disappears in the shower.

She flies down the track through the pitiless rain;
She reaches the river—the water below
Whirls and seethes through the timbers. She shudders again;
"The bridge! To Moingona, God help me to go!"
Then closely about her she gathers her gown
And on the wet ties with a shiver sinks down.

Then carefully over the timbers she creeps
On her hands and knees, almost holding her breath.
The loud thunder peals and the wind wildly sweeps,
And struggles to hurry her downward to death;
But the thought of the train to destruction so near
Removes from her soul every feeling of fear.

With the blood dripping down from each torn, bleeding limb,
Slowly over the timbers her dark way she feels;
Her fingers grow numb and her head seems to swim;
Her strength is fast failing—she staggers! she reels!
She falls—Ah! the danger is over at last,
Her feet touch the earth, and the long bridge is passed!

In an instant new life seems to come to her form;
She springs to her feet and forgets her despair.
On, on to Moingona! she faces the storm,
She reaches the station—the keeper is there,
"Save the lightning express! No—hang out the red light!
There's death on the bridge at the river to-night!"

Out flashes the signal-light, rosy and red;
Then sounds the loud roar of the swift-coming train,
The hissing of steam, and there, brightly ahead,
The gleam of a headlight illumines the rain.
"Down brakes!" shrieks the whistle, defiant and shrill;
She heeds the red signal—she slackens, she's still!

Ah! noble Kate Shelly, your mission is done;
Your deed that dark night will not fade from our gaze;
An endless renown you have worthily won;
Let the nation be just, and accord you its praise,
Let your name, let your fame, and your courage declare
What a woman can do, and a woman can dare!

On July 6, 1881, an 18 year old Iowan woman, Kate Shelly, made a multi-mile trek on a stormy night to rescue a survivor of a pusher locomotive crash and alert a passenger train that was heading toward the crash site, saving hundreds of lives and leading to the young woman to become a railway folk hero in the process.

Senator Sofia Fraser, looking for a way to leverage her fame as a not-insignificant icon for young women, wanted to form a political organization to mobilize young women for progressive, or more specifically, 'Fraser Republican', causes, currently, Governor Fraser's Presidential campaign. Eventually, Kate Shelly was picked as the best option, particularly since as she was an Iowan, the homage could help boost the Governor chances in the Iowa Caucuses in under a year. Kate Shelly's Daughters was chosen as the organizations name and it'd would refer to it's members as "Ellies" for short, which was as also fitting in it's being a Republican-leaning organization.

The plan for the Ellies was to prepare for a massive nationwide campaign during the summer of 1959 to convince people with more liberal or moderate inclinations to join the Republican party support positions aligned with Governor Fraser's campaign, making use of summer break to bolster the organization's numbers with university and high school age women and girls. With months to go until to summer, the primary focus of the group would be building the national infrastructure needed for such a summer campaign. To this effect, Sofia Fraser would work to contact a variety of individuals she knew would be supportive of her cause, from her connections in the Tri Delta sorority of her alma mater, to women from her Roller Derby days, to those in a variety of feminist groups. After a few weeks of preliminary work and fundraising, Sofia had put together a sizeable group of women's leaders, along with enough ground work in Iowa to ensure that the founding event there would be properly attended.

The group filled out with an interesting cross-section. On one hand you had more refined highly academic types that tend to be older, more intellectual. On the other hand, you had the still very politically concerned, but more assertive roller derby types eager to have their voices heard, that tended to be younger. Together, they'd advance an intensely patriotic liberal-progressive agenda, equal parts anti-Soviet and anti-Dixiecrat, with the anti-soviet position coming primarily out of strong nationalism and the anti-Dixiecrat position coming primarily out of strong federalism. While very much secondary to increasing liberal membership in the Republican Party, the organization will also work to support liberal republicans pursuing federal office, while remaining careful to avoid taking aim conservatives with strong ties with the republican party establishment, for purely strategic reasons of efficiency. KSD works to an image of women asserting their role in politics, while remaining distinctly feminine.

Representative Richard Douglas sits in his office reading about the founding of the Kate Shelly's Daughters as he continues on he thinks to himself "Jackson has his own youth group and now Fraser has one too, the Democrats are really losing ground on this front." He sits in his office a little defeated thinking to himself. After a while he thinks up the grand idea of created his own youth group one that would promote Democratic values. But then he remembers of Senator Lahde's criticisms of Jackson's youth group when it was announced, criticisms that may have faded from the public imaginations, but criticisms that could easily be brought up again, and it would seem hypocritical to create a Democratic youth group after what Lahde said. But he thinks to himself it doesn't have to necessarily be a youth group, it could just inform people about the bad policies Republicans are proposing and the policies that the Democrats are proposing. It would be targeted towards college students around the legal voting age and there wouldn't be membership or anything of that sort it would really be more like a newsletter than a youth group. He called Senator Lahde to ask what he thought of the idea.

Dearest Senator Sofia Fraser,

I've been meaning to reach out to you after the debate, I think it was a gigantic mistake on your part. Anyway, I'd like to have coffee sometime to clarify a few things.

-Bertie Broussard

Senator Fraser,

Get to the White House.

Senator Fraser,

Get to the White House.

From Senator Sofia Fraser to Bertie Broussard:

Only among people stupid enough to convinced by "states rights" arguments from an individual who supports federally imposed price floors of goods, such people weren't ever going to be reachable anyhow.

Senator Fraser arrives at the white house.
