What to take from the loss,

Our first game in international football is in the books, and it did not end the way we wanted it to. Sure, it was the result we were expecting, but in the backs of our minds we were hoping for a lot more. Maybe, in our first game, we could jump right in there with Université St. Croix and pull off the win. Maybe, Université St. Croix would take us lightly and we could pull off a surprising win. But that is not what college football is all about. Teams cannot afford to lose games that they should win, and for the defensively stout Bleu et Blanc, a hiccup against New Lakeland University in the first game would not be favorably seen by the pollsters. A bad first impression would not do wonders as they look to get in the best bowl possible. As such, they came into Stephanie H. Wiseman Stadium, and left with a 30-9 win.

What do we take from this? First off, that what we were expecting, that first year growing pains are going to be something to deal with. We want this team to be better, because we know that this school can play with everyone. It is going to take time, we are going against international programs with plenty of experience at this level, and that gives them an upperhand. Why? Well, it is because their programs have been set up for battle at the international level. Meaning, they have been recruiting people, perhaps internationally, and that gives them a jump in getting a high caliber roster together. In recruiting, they have the upper hand over other schools in their country, because they play in the NSCF while others (with one exception) in their homeland do not. That’s appealing for blue chip recruits, whereas the make up of the NLU roster does not have that advantage. We did not know until after commitments for the current roster came about that we were going to be playing at this level. If we did, then perhaps we could sway people who decided on places like, God forbid, Grande Mountain University, or the better colleges in Cassadaigua. It’s not the same in college basketball, where any school in the country could, theoretically, end up chosen to go to the NSCAA competition even though the schools we send have a familiar look to that every time. In the NSCF, it’s one school, or a maximum of two for others (we’d qualify for another one next time). And they know in advance. Therefore, recruits at home want to go there.

Eventually then, this team will get better at this level when we get the top recruits that these schools can get. That said, we are certainly capable of being more competitive with them, but it will take time. In the game against Université St. Croix, Erika Traynor was up against a defense that was better than any she had seen, and she seemed flustered in the first half. She didn’t make stupid mistakes, but the goose egg on the scoreboard at half time revealed those struggles. The Tycoons eventually got three drives that ended up in field goals over the second half, but that was after the Bleu et Blanc put the game away. Of course, you could say, if you wanted too, that we outplayed them 9-6 after falling behind 24-0. That’s just being silly and looking for any little positive thing.

Looking for any little positive thing? When you’re an infant needing to grow up in these waters, that’s not a bad thing at all.

KSPN Power Rankings: Week 1

The first week of the 23rd NSCF season has arrived and gone and we saw many things from blowouts with Kohnhead City's 74 point performance against Lismore coming to mind, to upsets with Richardson taking down the mighty Cold Hill in that week 1 primetime matchup, and games that went down to the wire with Cavsar taking Sadeg State to the wire in a thrilling one point game. With all that in mind KSPN is releasing their second ever power rankings following week 1 and there will be a few changes.

1. Cold Hill University - Ranoria (+/- 0)
Conference: Big Eight (1st)
Record: 0-1
Last Week: Lost 40-29 to Richardson

Cold Hill walked into Richardson University expecting an easy win against their rivals who they had just creamed in the domestic championship behind 50 points. According to some news outlets, Deondre Rhine even suggested letting Richardson score the first 20 points only for Cold Hill to come back and win because he thought it would be funny. He was not laughing after this one as he threw three interceptions all strangely to Makang Secka while consistently being pressured. While Cold Hill were the unamious number 1 selection last week that is no longer the case following this performance and instead they squeak into this position not based on merit but by reputation. An easier slate of matches follows them and we expect Cold Hill to try and avenge their only two losses in NSCF 22 and NSCF 23 when they next do battle with Richardson.

2. Raynor University -Valanora (+/- 0)
Conference: Zephyr (1st)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Stevan Vaalburger Academy 33-9

Taking on Allamunnic States side Stevan Vaalburger Academy, the game was never in doubt for Raynor who really are using it as a tune-up game for future matches having played efficient football in this one. A 24 point victory isn't the most convincing but truthfully you can't take too much away from this game because it went just like everyone anticipated. While next week should be another cakewalk to open the season against Thereisnogodistan Community College the three schools with the best chance of knocking them off the top of the conference are slated to play Raynor in weeks 3-5. If they can survive those three tests at a perfect 5-0, Zephyr will be all but theirs once again.

3. University of Loyola-Istria - Banija (+/- 0)
Conference: Celestia (1st)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated University of Waikoloa Village 47-3

The top three remains completely unchanged although Cold Hill is no longer solidly in the top spot, Loyola-Istria had a pretty easy going of things against United Volcano Isles school University of Waikoloa Village. While not too much can be taken from them toppling a new school like this 47-3, Amadi Ikenna the redshirt senior starting for the first time in his career and he looked great with only seven incompletions, over 350 yards along with four touchdowns and no picks. He also established a connection with top receiver, Khalil Hauptmann with the Ranorian getting two scores and almost 150 yards through the air. Northern Dinagat State shouldn't pose many problems in week two however Salamantic looms in week three which will be followed by a trip to UNM.

4. Felswyr State University - Chromatika (+1)
Conference: Horizon (1st)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Rickendor Central 39-12

Traveling to Hebitaka in week one to take on a new school in Rickendor Central it looked like the perfect trap game scenario with Felswyr coming off of their spectacular run last season and spending most of their time focusing on the two Drawkland schools. For the first quarter and a half it looked like that might be coming true as they were down 9-5 three minutes into the second quarter. Sarai Gwenderyn having won Most Outstanding Player for her performances last year had a bad start but FSU were able to bounce back easily winning 39-12 in the end in a game that could have been so much worse. I was impressed with the composure FSU showed when down early and am impressed by how they came back. Their climbing up a spot may have been a sort of admittal from us that they should have been ranked higher and Sadeg State almost losing to Cavsar was the perfect excuse to move them up.

5. Richardson University (+3)
Conference: Big Eight (2nd)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Cold Hill 40-29

The biggest climbers up the week, the Governors certainly shocked almost everyone when they pulled off the upset against Cold Hill and some have said our preseason Power Rankings of them down in 8th helped with the motivation. For years the question has been what could Richardson do with an elite offense coupled with their defense? This might be the year we find out as Ezekiel Bantoba who showed flashes of being great during Ranoria's season put up 40 on an overmatched Cold Hill defense however it wasn't just Bantoba who performed well for the offense with Saul Thomas Sr at running back getting the chance to shine in Kuendo Sello's stead. The defense after being embarassed by Rhine and Cold Hill in the Ranorian National Championship game sacked Rhine 12 times, picked him off three times (Makang Secka got all three), and put constant pressure on him showing they still have the defensive talent they are known for.

6. Sadeg State University - Drawkland (-2)
Conference: Horizon (2nd)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Cavsar 27-26

A failed two point play conversion right at the end of this game prevents Cavsar from upsetting heavily favored Sadeg State with the game even taking place in Sadeg. Despite the win they looked quite shaky and are being dropped two spots because of the performance of Richardson and because we felt like FSU deserved a top four spot. The Sadeg State offense looked good early on and Nick Parks looked good under center but they started to shut down as the game went on. What matters is that Sadeg State won despite how difficult it was and next week will be the big one as they travel to Chromatika to take on FSU with the winner of the match putting themselves on a path to success.

7. Kohnhead City University - Kohnhead (+/- 0)
Conference: Big Eight (3rd)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Lismore Christian 74-17

An argument could be made that Kohnhead City deserves to go higher and I definitely get that considering how well Byron Joseph and the offense as well as Zion Irving and the defense. Herman Whitworth looks to be back to his old tricks and Kalu Alazar is fitting in perfectly. We did raise them above Salamantic however Richardson had to move up a lot and despite the major blowout and almost reaching 3/4 of a century we did not move Kohnhead City above Sadeg State. Kohnhead City's tests will come later in the season against Cold Hill and against Richardson with them being 0-2 against Cold Hill and 3-0 against Richardson including a quarterfinals win. A sophmore season slump just might not happen for this school and depending on how those games go they could skyrocket in the rankings.

8. Salamantic Universities - Ko-oren (-2)
Conference: Celestia (2nd)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Fair Haven State 17-6

I mean it's Ko-oren football what do you expect as they defeat Fair Haven State by 11 points with the the Barnettsville team putting up a decent fight against Salamantic. The reason Salamantic is moving down is no real fault of their own, they played okay and got the job done however Richardson and Kohnhead City definitely deserve to move up. The marquee matchups on the season have yet to really arrive (aside from the Ranorian showdown) and so we haven't really seen how they will do against Loyola-Istria and UNM. We will find out soon enough as they host UNM next week and travel to Loyola-Istria in the week after. Salamantic managed to do quite well against the Banijan pair last season if they were able to do that again this year it could mean the difference between first and third in that conference.

9. Northern Moravica University - Banija (+/- 0)
Conference: Celestia (3rd)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Defeated Northern Dinagat State 43-13

Northern Moravica started off NSCF 23 with a dominant 43-13 win against the other Barnettsville team in Northern Dingat State who didn't stand a chance against the Banijan superpower. NMU quickly rose to a 40-0 lead dominating the way they know they can on the ground with Tegene and Esther rushing for almost 300 yards Ranorian sophmore Vallienté Wagner-Young had to do very little in the win. NMU will have a chance to prove themselves as a full contender with Salamantic on the horizon and obviously Loyola-Istria looming at somepoint.

10. Université du Saguenay - Quebec and Shingoryeo (N/A)
Conference: Woodlands (1st)
Record: 1-0
Last Week: Xannerian Polytechnical Institute 59-13

Despite SAFA winning their game 57-3 in the second largest blowout of the week (second only to us of course), they have been moved down and out of the rankings. The battle for 10th place in these power rankings is really under way and it's quite close with our panel going back and forth before determining that Saguenay's 46 point massacre of a highly regarded top 15 team in Xannerian Polytechnical Institute. SAFA and Saguenay both played fantastic in week one however all this spot came down to was the strength of the opposition they played and because of that the Quebec and Shingoryeo becomes the first Woodlands school to land in the top 10 of the power rankings while the Mineral Conference loses their only top 10 member however SAFA and the University of the Commonwealth are knocking at the door.

Now And Forever

PART 16.1 (58.1) - Lose Your Head

Faculty Box 5, Stade St. Croix, Quebec City

'Well, if there's only one consolation to say, Ma'am, it's that the game as classic as it can get.' said Dr. Heo Dong-Soo, as they were looking at the very bloodbath that was unfolding between the 1st-ranked Saguenay Fighting Irish and 7th-ranked St. Croix Bleu et Blanc on what was supposed to be a marquee showdown on a November Saturday night. The fifty-two year old professor of History and Comparative Literature, whose son Myeong-Shin was almost on the end of his remarkable career as Rover-Inside Linebacker with Saguenay Fighting Irish football team, was watching the game on a small but comfortably refurbished box with his two favourite pupils from the class of seniors. 'Perhaps that may be why Myeong-Shin hasn't been off the beat so far in the game. I've watched him and the defence play for so many years, but these guys are delivering what's expected of them.'

'Professor Heo, please don't feel sad just because we aren't losing. Our defence is still holding down the barrel well, and so far there hasn't been much Lautner's been able to do to keep the ball moving.' Christine, then-Princess of Abitibi and not yet the Queen of Quebec, nodded before delivering her words of relief. 'They are doing well, and we aren't far behind after all.' There was no denial on the fact that the future Queen, who was often called 'Mary' as a codename to avoid being referred in public, was a huge double Blue fan. Her presence on both hockey and gridiron games were so evident that it was fairly easy to notice her or her friends, the Smurfman Asher Lundrigan being one of them, being the regular group of Capitolien fans. Right now, Christine was watching the fourth down unfold, as a St. Croix kicker nailed a rudimentary 41-yard field goal to make it a 6-13 score with about 5:31 left in the third quarter. She was wearing simple pair of Jeans and a Bleu et Blanc football tee-shirt, her phone on left hand to check scores of other games through the night.

'Indeed, and we all gotta move at some point.' Dr. Heo nodded, slowly lamenting the fact that neither Asher nor Christine were returning for further studies after they graduate in June. 'It's still unfortunate that all these years, of being a happy parent to students, are slowly ending.' Dr. Heo was keeping his words limited, for the professor always had hard time watching his son out on the field especially as he got older- and the nature of this being the rivalry match between St. Croix (where he graduated with a doctorate in 2018) and Saguenay (his son's school, but also the rival to his current place of employment and his alma mater, Queen's College at Cornwall) didn't help. He still loved teaching the younger generations of brilliant minds at St. Croix, and being in charge of recent appointment as Professor of History at St. Croix, but the change of times couldn't have been more evident. 'You have duties to eventually lead as our Queen, your majesty, but Asher would certainly find worth staying and pursuing what he loves to do.'

'I agree with you, sir, but right now isn't the best of times for me.' Asher responded, trying his best not to get into the details behind his decision to accept his position with the Concord Heights Times and Landslide International after graduation. 'I am happy to come back, but Asher knew it wasn't a great idea to talk about his post-graduation plans, especially if they involved intentionally being abroad- almost as if being on an exile...the Quebec City November rarely brought the happiness out of any man, and the gloom of the match in which the St. Croix offence were getting stuffed in almost every drive possible did not help anybody either. As a result, the two students, with their cell phone at hand, were left chatting while Dr. Heo found this opportunity to head into washroom. 'And you know, I would rather not be back here, as much as I love my time on the campus and the Quartier (Calanien).'

'Nobody's denying that though. I've seen Caspian being as bitter as you are about the situation at times, you see.' Christine squeezed her eyes twice, trying not to think too much as she then checked the line of scrimmage. 'And you never felt home anywhere for too long. Kingston always felt like a short stop for you and Quebec City's the dream that can only last for so long.' It's been a challenging part of the semester for them, especially as the students got their midterm exam or paper results back and had to brace themselves for the finals. Even without that, Christine would rather not think ahead about what's ahead of the future- she wasn't really worried about what's coming, even as those tasks of preparing for the inevitable succession from her dying father were daunting to start with. 'You know she's in the city this weekend, right?'

'Who's that she?' Asher turned around for a sec to fix his glasses, before looking at the Princess. 'Myeong-Yoon's not in the city, and I'm sure the roomies aren't going anywhere for the weekend...unless they head for a getaway.' Asher folded his arms, pretending it was something casual and nothing emotional.

'Plongeon, or should I say Eileen?' Christine shook her head to left once, the end of her question particularly sharp on its edge and numbing at the back. Christine knew that was going to work.

Northern Moravica land thrilling 13-12 comeback road win in 'Battle of the Ancients' rivalry game with the Salamantic Universities

Banijan defensive tackle Malick Colley celebrates 4th down stop to create turnover late in the fourth quarter

STERRENWOLDE, KO-OREN- This game was always going to be an important one for fans of Northern Moravica, for Celestia Conference fans in general. Last season, the Salamanatic Universities stunned pretty much everybody by not only winning the conference, but sweeping both Banijan schools while doing so. You know how rare that is? Every single season since Banijan schools joined the NSCF, either Northern or Loyola-Istria has won the Celestia. Northern has 5 conference titles since NSCF 12, Loyola-Istria has 3 of their won. NSCF 15 & 16, of course, had neither Banijan school participate. So not only did the Salamantic Universities break that sweep, they did so emphatically, by putting both Moravica schools out to pasture.

They showed- this was their conference. And each Banijan school wanted to take it back. Not as a national pride thing- Northern and Loyola-Istria would both love to see the other go 0-13. But each view themselves as an elite program, and neither school takes losses, especially against rivals, likely. Northern Moravica believes that they are the strongest program in the Celestia Conference, and that they are an underrated NSCF championship contender. And this game was their opportunity to prove that.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, things did not start off well. Well, they started decently. Like last week's game against Northern Dinagat, they began by trying to run the football. And it started well. Esther ran for 7 yards on the opening carry, followed by a 20 yard run from Tegene to get to midfield. But then, disaster struck. As Tegene crossed the line of scrimmage, Ryoko Yashima got his helmet to the football to force a fumble. It was picked up by Defensive End Aoromei Aosel, and returned to the Northern 40. And while The Salamantics got a pair of first downs to get them to the 12, they got no further than that, kicking a 29 yard field goal to make it 3-0.

The hosts would get another big play soon afterwards. Northern Moravica went three and out on their ensuing possession. They punted the ball to language expert Tijuriskun Minguninden, who can really fly. He caught the punt at the 27, and after making a gunner miss, found a lane. Fortunately for Northern, our own punter, Xavier Fran, was able to make a great tackle. But that wasn't before he was able to reach the Northern 25 yard line, for a stunning 48 yard return. But once again, the defense held strong. They allowed 9 yards to have a 3rd and 1, but Sean Morgan-Horne stuffed the Professors running back in the backfield. The Professors kicked another field goal, this one from 36. Inside six minutes, Northern had already allowed two scores, but fortunately, both were field goals.

The rest of the first quarter did not see anything really significant happen, as Northern would consistently gain a few first downs and then punt, while the Salmantics would do the same thing. Xavier Fran, the trick shot artist punter, pinned the Salamantics inside their own 10 yard line twice in the first quarter, once at the 8, the other at the 3. The second quarter was more offense for the Salamantics. They had a long drive at the beginning of the quarter that ended in points. 11 plays, 78 yards, 6 minutes. Got all the way down to the Northern one. But on second & goal, and third & goal, the Northern defensive line held, not allowing any movement from the Professors offense. On 4th & goal, rather than punching forward again, they took the points to make it a two possession game- 9-0.

MIdway through the quarter, they had a 55 yard pass play to Onne Lindeberg, that put them at the Northern 24 yard line. The Professors would eventually kick a 39 yard field goal, to make it 12-0. All these field goals- no touchdowns. But still- points are points, especially when two elite defenses, such as these, meet. Northern Moravica was finally able to put together a drive when they went to the two minute drill. They got all the way down to the Professors 21 yard line, with 25 seconds and a timeout left. However, Wagner-Young took an 8 yard loss on a sack on the ensuing play. The Cougars set up for a 48 yard field goal, to cut the lead from 12 to 9 for the home team, but Babou Guiss hooked the ball wide right. So Northern went into the half down 12-0.

The third quarter was all defense from both sides. The furthest either team got in field position was the opposition 45 yard line. That's advantage for the Salamantics, however, since they led by two scores. Early in the fourth quarter, the Salamantics drove down the field. Once more, they waded deep into Cougars territory. At the Cougars 28 yard line, the Salamantics faced a 3rd and 9. What to call? They called a post route to Chillarie Yowarie. Unfortunately for him, he ran right into the area of hard-hitting safety Sean Gonzalez. The Kalactanian national lit him up right as he put his hands on the football, causing the ball to fly backwards. It landed right in the hands of junior cornerback Edrissa Coulibaly. Interception!

Coulibaly turned around and returned the football to the Cougars 35- he had caught the ball at the 5 yard line. Finally, some momentum! Lance Kabuye knew he needed to take advantage of it. And on the very first play, he went for it all. A hard play action fake to Tegene saw both safeties bite, and Dominik Dvoracek race up the right sideline. He had single coverage, and he had a step on the Greencaster Tech student, Orne Hulzebosch. Wagner-Young lofted a beautiful deep ball that Dvoracek was able to run under, and run into the end zone. THe Northern sideline celebrated as Wagner-Young held his arms wide out and ran to meet his player in the end zone. With the extra point, it was 12-7, and just like that, the Cougars were back in this game.

Forcing a three and out on the ensuing possesion, Wagner-Young and co. looked to get the offense going with about 10 minutes left in the fourth. But a holding penalty negated a 20 yard pass play on first down. And while they could not get all 20 back over the next three plays, they got 15. 4th down and 5, at your own 33. Lance Kabuye said he would go bold. And bold he went! They called a fake punt. Ibeabuchi Chiemeka was the up back in the punt formation. The snap went to him, and not one person the Professors saw it coming. He needed five, but ran for 25, getting the ball down to the Salamantics 42 yard line. The gutsy call that resulted in the big play saw Lance Kabuye pumped. We continued to drive, but could not punch it in. Regardless, one 31 yard field goal later, it was 12-10 with 7 minutes to go.

Northern Moravica had momentum. But the Professors wanted to respond. And remember- at this point, Northern had one timeout left. They had used two in the 3rd quarter when they had communications issues, and the play clock ran dangerously low. So the Professors drove down the field until there was about 4:30 left. To the Cougars 37. But the defense stepped up again. Samuel Kim was able to blitz into the backfield, untouched, and get a huge hit on the opposing quarterback. Forced a fumble, recovered by Ogunsola at the Cougars 45. We were back in busines. But then, their defense stepped up. Four straight incomplete passes. One of them, on 3rd and 10, was on a long corner route towards the sideline. It had looked like Jung Singateh had dragged his foot. Kabuye threw the challenge flag to get the potential 27 yard gain. But his first foot had barely landed out of bounds before he could drag his back foot. Without any timeouts, we had to go for it on 4th down, with about 3:50 left. And we did not convert.

So then, we had to make a stop. NO timeouts, 3:45 left in the game. They had the ball at our 45. They got 8 yards on 3 plays. 4th and two from our 37. Tough decision. Get 2 yards, and that's game. Kick a field goal, and we have to score a touchdown, but it's still a one possesion game. And it was a 54 yarder- if you miss, we get great field position. You could punt, but that's a lot of faith in your punter to pin us deep. They decided to go for it on fourth and 2. We stuffed the line of scrimmage. 6 down linemen. No corners in the game for us, no receivers for them. Jumbo on both sides. They tried to sneak it, but our interior line held strong, and Samuel Kim leapt over the top of the pile to help pull their quarterback away from the yard to gain.

A huge stand! Kabuye was yelling from the sideline. Wagner-Young excitedly threw on his helmet. It would be his opportunity. No timeouts, about 1:35 left, just needed to get into field goal range. And he'd do that. They'd gain 30 yards, getting down to the Professors 33 yard line. They didn't need a ton of yardage- but they got what they needed. And with 4 seconds left, they spiked the ball to allow their kicker to take the field. Game winning field goal attempt. Players on both sidelines took a knee. On Babou Guiss' first attempt, the Professors coach iced him. So he had to do it again. But the second attempt woudl count. His heart must have been pounding, but the 50 yard field goal went right through the uprights as time expired.

Northern Moravica players, of course, exploded in euphoria. They stormed the field, mobbing the kicker. They shook hands with their opponents. And after they did that, the seniors gathered at midfield, and marched, arm in arm, to the opposite sideline, which at this point had been cleared. There was just one thing there- the Felinology Trophy. They grabbed the rivalry trophy and hoisted it into the air, proud to take it back to Northern Moravica with them. "What a win!" Lance Kabuye told a reporter after the game. "This team- we play for each other, we love this game, we play with heart. And we play with guts. That fake punt- perfectly executed. Babou Guiss has ice in his veins, as he nailed that kick. I don't rank teams, but this game shows why, in my opinion, I believe that we are one of the teams to beat in the NSCF. And I expect us to continously prove that over the coming weeks."

Wagner-Young led the Northern offense today, completing 20/33 for 247 yards and one touchdown, without an interception. The team did OK running the football, as the Professors held them to 116 yards rushing as a team, on 29 total carries.

- Loyola-Istria took care of business away from home, winning a high scoring bout with Northern Dinagat State by a score of 43-24. It was their first road win of the season. They were heavy favorites, and won accordingly, with their offense getting out in front and flying past Northern Dinagat State. They will get ready for a Big game at home against the Salamantic Universities. Alanso Isa called the game against the Ko-oren institution a "marker", one that will "show how much progress Loyola-Istria has made from last season." They struggled to win big games last year- can they prove that they will reverse that trend this season with a home win over the Salamantic Universities?

After a tight Overtime loss to Freedom's Altar kicked off Trent State's NSCF debut, things were looking a bit...weird, so to speak. Sure, Johnny Bridgeford and his players entered this competition with zero real expectations, but the way the Feathercaps played against the Flames in Sherwood Field was certainly a surprise to many and it stokes hopes that maybe this team could do better than what many expected. But in order to be good at this sport, you had to be great on the road as well as at home so, in this team's first road game, they were taking on the Warriors of the University of the Commonwealth at Jacob F Gleason Field in Belle Haven, Baker Park.

As it would turn out, this contest would be another one where TSU's inexperience was the main factor in their defeat. College Hill wasn't a pleasant environment to play in at all for our Feathercaps but the Warriors thrived under this environment. They would score the first TD in the first quarter, Brandon Bullins finding Mick Doolittle for 14 yards, and with the extra point by Gary Scheper complete, the hosts lead 7-0. The Feathercaps would try to pull off a drive of their own but it would only be enough for a field goal, Clayton McGee showing his accuracy to make it 7-3. This process would repeat itself for the 2nd and the 3rd quarters, with Bullins finding his man (Doolittle again in the 2nd, Matt McDonald in the 3rd) twice and McGee at least giving the visitors points to take away from an unsuccessful drive. Gareth Baldwin was certainly trying, no doubt about that, but the Warriors D had experience at this level and it showed. In the end, nothing could be done. TSU joined the Vietussia Academy and Syracuse State at 0-2 while UCBP joined the SAFA and Freedom's Altar at 2-0 - a rift already opening in the Mineral between the have and have-nots.

It wasn't fun out there in Belle Haven, but at least this team tried their best and put up a good showing in difficult circumstances. Next up is a big-money game for the school as the Squidbreak of the Squidroidia Armed Forces Academy, the defending conference champions, come to the Isles of Europa for MD3. While hosting the fucking Squidbreak will certainly put butts in seats at Sherwood Field, a question was certainly in the air as the team flew back home: If we failed to beat a game thus far then what chance do we have against the Squidbreak? WE ARE! TRENT STATE!

Governor Defense Stands Strong, Silences Crowd in Northwest Kalactin

A lot of people have been calling for defensive coordinator Eric Dietrich's head of late, after allowing a 50 burger against our rivals in Cold Hill, a team that, under Deondre Rhine, we've consistently engage in shootout games against just to have a chance. When it's a rivalry, the sting of that unsolved mystery is only stronger, but Dietrich appears to be off the hot seat...for a week. After a clever move to use Makang Secka on Dorian Browne-Clarke, Deondre Rhine's tight end and security blanket, reaped a trio of turnovers, and he managed this dominant performance against the Capitals, maybe he has a chance to make it through the NSCF season.

Quarterback Ezekiel Bantoba would lead the charge on offense, and threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Baraka Hali reeled in one of those scores in a nice bounce-back game, posting a dozen receptions for 141 yards after a dismal week one outing. The Governors, of course, controlled the ball on offense, took it away on defense and cruised to a win against star quarterback John Foster's squad in a 40-10 win away from home on Saturday.

"This week was satisfactory," said coach Richard Steinheil, "We didn't rest on our laurels following that big win a week ago," Shanahan said of the concern about the field. "I could tell by Tuesday that we were going to play well. They weren't kicking back and relaxing, our guys looked hungry after that win, more confident even. They played hard for four quarters, but we have a lot of football left to play, a lot left to prove." Steinheil had turned to walk away and we began to continue our broadcast before he turned back around.

"Excuse me, thank you," the head coach, in a rare and bold move, looked directly at the camera, "Next week is a big one. We're going to have a nice welcoming party ready, roll out the red carpet, and we're going to exorcise some demons."

Bold words from a man who's team lost three games against the same, referenced, Kohnhead City a season ago. Anyway, back to the game.

The offensive unit played a near flawless game. Bantoba hit 23 of his 33 passes, including touchdowns from 17 and 31 yards out. We also held the ball for more than 39 minutes of clock and forced a pair of turnovers without giving the ball up. Linebacker Clancy Gluber would come up with that second turnover, forcing a fumble on a run play that would have gotten the Capitals into the red zone for first time in the contest.

Saul Thomas Sr. and Elliot Roach also each scored on runs for our Governors, with two and one, respectively. Freshman Paul Franks would miss one extra point and go 2/3 on field goals, not bad for a Ranorian we suppose, but the school is reportedly looking to get outside help at the position.

Next week: Richardson is hosting Kohnhead City in a battle of the last two undefeated teams in the conference. Not only that, but the Mighty Eagles beat Richardson into the dirt last season, sweeping them in the conference stage and knocking them out convincingly in the playoffs.

Recruiting News!

Our Ranorian schools have made a few offers to international recruits. Cold Hill has reached out to wideout Nikolas Ikaksen and running back Alexander Østby, both out of Valanora. Ikaksen is a jump ball specialist who would likely start early, based on the talent currently at the position. Better yet, none of Cold Hill's current receiving core are jump ball players, and Ikaksen certainly qualifies. Østby, meanwhile, would likely back up running back Brannon Hillis for a year before moving into the starting role. As a receiving back, he fills the Buffalo's mold for the position, but Cold Hill historically underutilizes their running backs. In recent memory, only Hue Ross, who exploded for more than sixteen hundred yards in Deondre Rhine's freshman year, has broken that mold. Both players did visit Cold Hill this week, and the team appears optimistic at their chances.

They are also making a push for quarterback Leonardo Torrent, but Torrent may not find the idea of sitting behind fellow high recruit Aurel Strathos for a couple years appealing.

Richardson appears, meanwhile, to be focusing on the offensive line and defense. Thus far, they have offered Kalactinian nickelback Michael Brady, Daigan tackle Brian Shipman, and Kalactinian guard Joseph Everett. Brady and Shipman would likely see early playing time, but Everett most likely would have to sit a season behind an always strong offensive line unit. Richardson is also rumored to be pursuing another dark-horse recruit this season domestically, but we haven't quite pinned the kid's name down yet.

Meanwhile, there are five offers from foreign schools currently on the table Ranoria's top ten recruits. Cornerback Adoree Natali has visited both Raynor and Mar Sara Tech, whom of course Ranorians are familiar with. Mar Sara Tech also secured a visit from center Jacob Engelhaft. Hector Storolfsson, meanwhile, has a pair of offers on the table from Northern Moravica and Universite du Saguenay, both hard-nosed programs with strong offensive lines. He has agreed to visit both schools, and his loss would be a blow for Richardson, who was deigned the favorite to land the big man.

Lissmore, Northwest Kalactin

"Dude, what the hell? Get your pads on!" Rhine ignored the question, grabbing Dorian Browne-Clarke by the shoulder and pointing at him.

"Listen Dorian, listen, I got it, I figured it out, how to win them all over." He waved his free hand around as he spoke, gaze locked on his tight end's. "I feel absolutely fantastic, I'd dare say I am sprawling with life. How about you Dorian, how are you doing today?"

The tight end blinked. Deondre Rhine didn't. Deondre Rhine just stared, and Dorian pushed him away, "What the hell did you do, Diamond?" The tight end turned around, waving him off as he stalked away, "I don't have time for this shit. Get your pads on, or tell coach you need Aurel to step in."

"No no no," Rhine caught up to him, cutting him off again, "It's okay, it's okay, look at the field," He wrapped an arm around the similarly large man, gesturing towards the empty grass, "I can see it all, everything that's going to happen, everything in the plan. It's amazing, it's perfect."

Rhine may not have noticed it, but the way his words came out fast, almost jittery, was unusual, and Dorian quite literally facepalmed, "Okay. Whatever. Just get dressed, you better be right."

Dorian shrugged him off again, and Rhine frowned, "Just...as he wills it," he finished, pointing up at the sky, and sighed, walking over to the stands, where Chewy sat attentively.

"Why do bad things keep happening to me, Chewy?"

In what probably should've surprised the quarterback, the owlephant responded. "Dad, you don't have bad luck. The reason bad things happen to you is because you're a dumbass."

Deondre laughed, waggling a finger at the owlephant and jumping around ecstatically, "A dumbass who is high off his balls! Have you ever felt the insides of your teeth? It's weird, man."

The first drive was bad.

Now, it's important to note that he could see the board with the play call, but he had absolutely no idea what the images on it meant. The first snap, well, apparently it was a run play for the first time in forever, but Rhine dropped back and looked long. Brannon Hillis stumbled as he went to take the handoff, turned and saw his quarterback, and assumed he'd gotten it wrong, dropping into a pass protection stance.

Rhine, meanwhile, stopped dead. All of his nice footwork went out the window, and he leaned forward to whisper in Hillis's ear as the line did their thing. "Bro, my brain feels like a tangerine parfait. Was this supposed to be a r- urk!" Rhine went down hard, completely blindsided, and the ball went flying. Offensive lineman Vince Vermillion turned, hands in the air, and Brannon Hillis waved him off and tapped himself on the chest.

"Miscommunication Vince, my mad." The tackle shook his head, watching helplessly as the Lissmore defender waltzed into the end zone, and the offense came off the field. Chris Dale pulled Rhine a couple yards away from the rest of the team with a scowl.

"My god, this has gotten to your head. What are you on, Rhine?"

"Ten thousand micrograms of LSD!" He declared perhaps a little too loudly, flashing his coach a thumbs up.

"Holy f-" the rest was drowned out by the crowd noise as an energized Lissmore Christian laid a hard hit on returner Felix Hamilton. "You can't see the play calls, can you?"

"Nope." He extended an arm out to the coach, dead serious, "I am so god damn high right now that I can see your soul. I'm starting to think I've had an apotheosis, ascended to a new plane of existence, somehow even greater than how much higher I was than you miserable plebeians before.

Dale stepped back and pinched the bridge of his nose. "If I pull you right now, it's my damn neck, because the only reason they haven't dumped me is because they think I have your dumbass under control. How about colors, can you tell colors apart?"

Rhine nodded, still grinning, "Mhm!" He then waved to Chewy, behind his coach. The owlephant trumpeted his reply.

"Alright look, we're going four verticals, every play this drive. I'll figure something out. Now get out there, play clock's winding down."

"Cooli-o!" Deondre Rhine ran back out to the field, the yard markers and blades of grass all seeming to blur together.

Of course, when he took that next snap, and looked deep, he had to squint a bit. After all, there were some blotches of maroon running really fast down the field, but if he focused he could tell one color from the other. The star passer cocked back to throw, and then his eyes went wide. He looked down at his jersey to confirm that they were, indeed, in their whites, and once he had confirmed that, he looked right back downfield and let it rip.

Now, you'll hear some people describe a deep, lofted pass as a "moonball," or sometimes as a "rainbow." Well, the first thing Deondre Rhine saw was a faint rainbow trailing from the football. At it's peak, it seemed to flash its brilliance for just an instant before crashing down to earth, growing larger and larger.

"Oh no, bad trip, bad trip," he muttered under his breath. It was too big. It was going to crush his receiver. No, it might just leave a crater in the stadium. He closed his eyes, waiting for the inevitable, and his fears were only confirmed when the crowd took a sharp, collective intake of breath followed by silence.

For a moment, that was it, it was over. And then he felt hands slapping his helmet, back, butt, all of it, and opened his eyes just as the loudspeaker came on. The sun, just starting to dip over the artificial horizon of the stadium, seemed to give off its rainbow hues in time with the announcer's syllables.

The world suddenly became much brighter, and much more colorful. This was going to be so much fun. "Everything exists!" Rhine declared, pumping his fists and jumping in the air, "And I am everything!"

He didn't really pay the score any mind. He had to keep the blinders on. As amazing an experience as this was, he knew if his attention wavered for too long that would probably be it. The quarterback shook his wrist after another deep pass, the limb sore from the previous hit he'd taken, and watched another majestic rainbow swirl behind his throw.

"Man," he elbowed Brannon Hillis with a chuckle, "I think that's a home run. Lucky thing, feel like these passes are going every which direction except where I wanna throw them. Like, I'm so high,I'm at the point where I don't know what's going on." He cut the running back off before he could respond, placing a finger on his lips, "But I know everything, at the same time. This is awesome. Now," he removed his finger and flourished, "Proceed."

Hillis waited a second, but quite literally shook the quarterback's antics off. "Dude," the running back shook his head, "You have two incompletions aaaaand," Hillis waited for the whistle to sound, "Four touchdown passes now."

Rhine still didn't blink, but he did lean down, "I'm sorry, four? Bro, you've gotta be pulling my leg, because I have no idea what's going on."

"I can tell," Hillis muttered under his breath, "Now come on."

Rhine plopped down on the bench, and Chris Dale looked down at him, his stern gaze completely ruined by the myriad of colors framing him from this vantage point. "I have no idea how you did it, but good work. We're gonna give Aurel some snaps here. Stay the hell away from the cameras on the way out."

The star quarterback chuckled, "No problem-o, coach," and leaned far back in his bleacher, glancing at Chewy, "You know, I think I've learned some valuable life lessons from this."

"I’m guessing they are all horrible distortions on the lessons you actually should’ve taken away?" The owlephant replied, leaning down over the railing to brush the quarterback's head with his trunk.

"Indeed. My perceived fallacies and vices aren't real, and I’m basically the next coming of Christ, or whatever they worship in Banija and Quebec."

The Race Gets Hot

Another week has come and gone here in the NSCF and the race for the top marks in the land are starting to heat up, especially here in the Empire with both Mar Sara Tech and Raynor University winning both of their games to start off the schedule. It all is about to get more difficult for both teams though, as the battle for Vanorian dominance, as well as traditional powerhouse Ceneisis Naval Academy still looms large for the Empire pair. However two wins to the good for both teams will do loads of good for the morale of both teams as well as provide huge recruiting boons as the coaches start heading out of the Empire and looking for some new recruits to fill out those will be departing next season. For Vanorian gridiron fans, you are hoping that both teams will be at least four and one at the half way point, while the most optimistic of fans will hope for one school to be five and oh while the other school only four and one with the only loss coming from whoever ends up losing out in the battle for the heartland. Have their wins don enough to keep up their spots in the Power Rankings or move into it in the case of Mar Sara? Let's find out now, below!

10. Squidroidia Armed Forces Academy (SQR) Mineral - Squidbreak showed out in their first game with a massive offensive outpouring, yet had to struggle at home to a victory over Vietussia who had been thumped quite handedly a week prior. Last season they were a bit of a dark horse and surprise package, before eventually being outdone by the Rockets in the Quarterfinals. This season they will not be able to sneak up on anyone and this game against Vietussia might be an indicator of that.

9. Université du Saguenay (QUE) Woodlands - After an opening blowout win in Quebec, Saguenay faced their first major task of the season in a trip against Universidad de Barvard. It was far from pretty but they turned in another victory to take an early grip on the conference, though they still have to deal with their fellow Quebec powerhouse of USC, who also won impressively on the road this week. A win their and they can start thinking about a conference title, even this early in the season.

8. Mar Sara Tech (VAL) Zephyr - The Raiders have not been near as dominant as the Rockets but they have been able to deal with having to replace their entire starting offensive line fairly well with the offense being the highest scoring in the conference so far. The Banija trio on the offense is definitely leading the way and looks to be a real solid force for the Raiders to lean on. Going into Bowerstone and snatching a victory from the conference's early dark horse last season is an impressive feat and definitely has a few people thinking that the rebuild was last season rather than this, but as mentioned, the battle for the Empire as well as Ceneisis still loom large in the first half of the round robin, and the "true" tests of the conference.

7. Northern Moravica University (BNJ) Celestia - It was far from what anyone who likes offense wanted to see in their game against Salamantic, but the Cougars were able to escape Ko-oren with a victory in hand and one that propels them into the power rankings. Getting a win over a quality opponent like that in their backyard is huge moves for a team and nation that needed some belief that they could beat their rivals after a disaster of a campaign against them last season.

6. Kohnhead City University (KHN) Big Eight - After being the surprise package from the Big Eight last season, Kohnhead City has not let their foot off the gas, with an outrageous one hundred and twenty-six points scored in their first two games, forty-six more than the next highest in the conference. Anyone who can be top of this crazy conference this early with stats like that is in need of recognition, but with both Richardson and Cold Hill to come, can they sustain it?

5. Sadeg State University (DRK) Horizon - Convincing? Not at all. Efficient? Absolutely. To go into Chromatika and best the previous number one team in the rankings in overtime after surviving a scare against Casvar in the first week, you have to give the Skyhawks their due. However if they want to really be considered contenders, they will need to start showing some killer instinct and not be in tight affairs every game.

4. Felswyr State University (CMT) Horizon - That's a tough loss to take, at home in overtime, and to one of the traditional powers of the NSCF, yet it will be a good test of their character to see how they can bounce back from this adversity. Some say that Sadeg should be ahead of them after the win, but Felswyr were in the title game last season and a game in overtime shows that there is not much between the two teams, so FSU stays ahead, for now.

3. Raynor University (VAL) Zephyr - The Rockets had another quiet, comfortable, and efficient victory, picking apart Thereisnogodistan even though they were on the road, looking to keep up that conference winning form that they were in last season. So complete have been their victories that Duke Beckett has gotten a touchdown in both games despite being the second man on the depth chart for the Rockets. However the easy part of the schedule is over with and now they get to test their true mettle against the three teams that want to take the throne from them.

2. University of Loyola-Istriia (BNJ) Celestia - The Blue Thunder have been absolutely cutthroat in their attacks against the rest of the Celestia and have one of the best offenses in the NSCF, tied for third with Squidbreak and behind the ridiculous Kohnhead and Saguney, first and second respectively. This traditional power is definitely rising and there has been nothing able to slow them down so far, can that change when they play Northern or Salamatic, the two biggest threat to the Blue Thunder dominance over the Celestia?

1. Richardson University (RAN) Big Eight - Here comes the controversy, as we have completely dropped Cold Hill from the top 10 of the rankings and instead have Richardson at the top of the heap despite them not leading the conference nor having the benefit of having been in the title game last season like Cold Hill was. However two wins from two and going into Akers and putting up a thirty point victory over a fairly talented school in one of the most contentious conferences in play this season? It is hard not to say that they are not the best team right now, but as with most of the teams that have started well, they still have their tougher games in the conference left for the first half that could topple them off the pedestal, or it could end up entrenching them if they hold firm and keep up this pace they are setting.

Top 10 Kohnheadian Recruits #10-6
KSPN has put together their first annual list of the top 10 Kohnheadian recruits and while two of them have already committed to staying here in Kohnhead with one going to KCU and the other to SCU, the rest are really up for grabs to whichever college gives them the best offer. Last season four Kohnheadians "signed" for other schools with Elliot Roach playing the most important role thus far as second running back on Richardson. This first article will have the recruits ranked 10-6 before next week will include the top five.

10. OLB Kenny Short
*Committed to Swisston City University*
Short went to Dawson Central where he excelled on a poor High School team that won a total of three games in four years going winless twice before sort of improving in his last two years in part because of how well he played. Short can be a very good leader on defense as evidenced by his three years as a captain and while his best traits are his speed and coverage ability at the position he is a surefire tackler. The reason he's this low on the list is probably just due to a lack of recognition given his school and that it's difficult to judge good players on really bad teams. He has already committed to Swisston City a team that values the linebacker position higher than most and with their being three seniors there he will probably start next season.

9. QB Jeffery Bolton
Next up we have the 6' 4 Jeffery Bolton a quarterback with very low upside due to an unathletic build, a slow 40 time, and an arm that can barely throw 50 yards and can't do so consistently. Bolton comes out of Parga Prep and despite his limitions was a pretty good player on a very good team that was the third best team in the nation last year for High School and High School football is quite popular. The reason for this is that Bolton is an extremely accurate, game manager who won't take any unecessary risks but can complete high percentage passes and will almost always make the correct read. He doesn't have the physical talent to go too far but he has the football IQ to be a decent role player, if you're looking for the quarterback to take you to the next level he isn't it and you shouldn't be looking in Kohnhead.

8. C Claudia Atkins
Atkins is a bigger bodied center with a lot of weight behind her who can really dominate in the run game. A big part of Hepfar High a school in Kohnhead City that had a very good season with one of the best offensive lines and run games in the nation. Atkins was the anchor of this bulldozing defenders out of her way, however with this comes the notion that she is only average in the pass game and struggles with snapping the football more than a center should. Atkins can definitely get better in the future and there's nothing stopping her from becoming a star on the offensive line.

7. WR Stan Devlin
Devlin is a burner and that's all he really is, pair him with a strong armed quarterback who can hit him deep and you'll get yourself someone explosive enough to easily take the top off of defenses and if you know how to utilize him with screens and pitches you can really use him. Devlin's biggest knacks are his high drop rate and major injury questions as because of his speed he has a smaller frame which has led to some serious injuries. Stan Devlin has all the upside in the world however he is quite weak and could spend his four college years injured. He only played in 52% of potential High School games over at Winchester High in Porter, and so the film on him is quite limited.

6. DT Dakota Cannon
*Committed to Kohnhead City University*
Cannon is a beast in the pass rush game and has some connections to KCU with his father having attended their as well and they grew up in a wealthy part of the suburbs surrouding the city. He went to the very prestigious Hillside Prep and was part of a dominant team for the last few seasons winning the Championship this year and during his Sophmore season behind one of the greatest High School seasons ever from Herman Whitworth. Cannon as expected will join a Kohnhead City defensive line that is a big part of this team's success and look for him to emerge as a very good pass rusher in future years.

Kohnhead City crushes Swisston City in first NSCF meeting

If you thought that the first ever KCU-SCU matchup in the NSCF would be one for the ages then you would be sorely mistaken as Kohnhead City absolutely crushed Swisston City winning 52-14 as they followed up the best offensive performance in over two years with the second best of the week only to Laneca's 56 out of Grey County (!) a team no one expected to do that. While it wasn't 74 points, an average of 63 points a game is ridiculous and while KCU played two of the worst teams in the conference it's still absolutely crazy in by far the highest scoring conference.

Herman Whitworth is in my opinion a dark horse candidate for offensive player of the year award assuming he can stay healthy as in the first half alone he added 207 on the ground along with two touchdowns while Joseph added 61 and a score. Hastroff who was the lead back for almost all of the second half again added 114 as the Chromatik (not Chromatikan) continues to impress in his freshman campaign. Joseph also threw for over 200 yards and Newhouse threw for 100 coming in for the final quarter of the blowout.

Joseph continues to have taken steps as a passer and Alazar continues to prove that he is the number one receiver with a 72 yard game along with another score. Ezekial Edwards left early due to a groin injury and so Keith Gray stepped into the offense in the slot a role he will be inheriting next season and he caught two passes and also returned a punt for a touchdown proving just how electrifying he can be in the return game. Jodi Lawrence had a much quieter game as Joseph struggled to stretch the field in this one although his underneath passes looked crisp and perfect.

Defensively our line gave Swisston City's supect offensive line hell with Rivers getting 1.5, Lawrence getting 1, Snow at 2, and Beech getting .5 while the rest of the team added three other sacks for a total of eight on the day giving Rodriguez limited time to work. Zion Irving continues to impress adding his third interception of the year while shadowing and absolutely taking Carey out of the game for the Army Knives.

The defense would force three interceptions one of which was returned for a touchdown by Alexis Lord who got his first ever collegiate interception. As stated earlier, Irving picked up his third on the year and the final one would go to Jonas Klein who got it off of a Harlen Gill tip and had to dive on this one. The defense which has largely been overshadowed by the offense putting up 126 points in two weeks with the second highest scorer being the Université du Saguenay at 92 has done really well has been 11th best in terms of scoring.

However the defenses performance and the historic rate at which Joseph and the offense has been scoring at will obviously come down especially as we have played the two easier opponents on our schedule this far in Swisston City and Lismore. That will no longer be the case as we will be traveling to Dietrich Stadium a place that we visited once last year in a KCU win just like all of our three matches against Richardson. Richardson are pissed off at the world of college football, and especially at us for our three wins against them last season and KSPN for ranking them down in 8th place to start the season something they apparently hung on their bulletin board prior to the game against Cold Hill.

Led by Senior transfer Ezekiel Bantoba out of Banija, Richardson's offense which was the butt of many jokes last season has completely transformed and they still have an elite running back in Saul Thomas Sr who patiently waited behind Keundo Sello for his job last season. Richardson upset Cold Hill in week one 40-29 and then easily got past an overmatched Akers 40-10 putting the combined records of teams from Northwest Kalactin at 0-4 (the Big Eight sucks).

Personally I think Richardson will win and their coach Richard Steinheil is quoted as saying "Next week is a big one. We're going to have a nice welcoming party ready, roll out the red carpet, and we're going to exorcise some demons." This obviously did not go over too well with Kohnhead City fans who were quick to point out many things however the reigning Coach of the Year Milton Donnelly stayed silent on this.

However staring quarterback Byron Joseph did not take to highly to these comments from the coach responding in a way that many did not want however he was backed up by his teammates. Joseph responded with "From the place that he's coming from I get he wants to show confidence and I get that he wants to beat us we beat them three times last season that's gotta hurt however you just can't say that about our team. For him to be saying that especially after what we did to them last year in their house and in our house twice, I just can't respect those comments about the red carpet especially. I'm not going to go out there and talk about how they're a bad team because that's not true and we know that isn't true however I just don't appreciate those comments to us. I'm not going to try and start a fight, he has the right to say whatever he wants I don't like those comments and I know that we will have them at the front of our minds Saturday Night at Richardson."

Joseph received some crtiscism with some saying he just needs to focus on the game however others encouraged him to step up saying things like Richardson can talk once they actually beat us. We know the stakes were high last year however it appears the stakes might be growing this year with these comments, we shall see if anything more comes of it but we certainly know that some fans were smack talking each other on twii.tur constantly.

For Swisston the match was a lot different and the players came out of it feeling very different from the mood in the Kohnhead City locker room. For all of the hyping up the match got with the potential for a rivalry at least right now it just doesn't work that way as Swisston City were humiliated at Chicken King Stadium. Sure they held John Foster and Akers to 13 and put up a respectable 27 against them however that same production just wasn't going to cut it against Kohnhead City.

An early deficit meant that a team that barely runs the ball as it is was forced into throwing it even way more than they normally do and Diego Rodriguez as mentioned earlier was given no time. They failed to attack Kohnhead City where they are weak which is in the secondary because Rodriguez just didn't have enough time and instead of exposing KCU with short passes that get first downs and not big plays down the field, they constantly called four verticals and plays like that which just increased the sack numbers.

Callum Newman was probably just in over his head against the reigning Coach of the Year in Milton Donnelly and if Swisston City want to reach their expectation of a trip to the Pioneer Bowl which is definitely a possibility he will need to prepare this team better. It should be obvious where you attack this team, instead Newman and OC Kirk Newman (yes they're brothers) called an absolutely awful game.

In addition Zion Irving just completely took Rodrigeuz's best target in William Carey out of the game and while Swift had a few nice plays along with Cresswell getting open a few times they just couldn't really do too much against a Kohnhead City defense that came to play. On the defensive side there was nothing they could do to stop the Kohnhead City O-line and run game who just bulldozed through their second straight defense.

Next up is Homecoming weekend for Swisston City as they host Lismore Christian College one of two 0-2 Northwest Kalactin schools and the team that got beat 74-17 by Kohnhead City. Swisston City already beat the better Kalactin school in Akers University by two scores and so they will be favorites at home in this one. Unfortunately that means that the two weeks after have them taking on Richardson and Cold Hill which could go quite poorly for Swisston.

Kohnhead City sits atop the table as one of two unbeaten teams alongside Richardson who as mentioned earlier will be playing them. Swisston are surprisingly in 4th only losing out to Cold Hill on point differential although Cold Hill will finish ahead of them and should pull away. Swisston's goal at this point should probably be going 4-6 in Conference play which would mean sweeping the Kalactin schools or going 3-1 against them and picking up a fluke victory against one of the big three in the conference which probably isn't happening.

DEPRI LANAR - In a rather tight affair that never got out of hand, it was the heroics of Vipers Linebacker Charleen Diehl and Kicker Shirley Woo that saw the Vipers to their second victory.

After a brilliant first game, Quarterback Nobuko Matos was harassed for most of the game by Nanci Hamby and Tad Lowry, two of the Warriors' linebackers that came across the line most of the time. The prospect still finished 21-of-38 for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Merrill Gerald added 91 yards on the ground from 21 carries.

The aforementioned Charleen Diehl contributed five sacks and was just in Dario Clementine's face all game. Shirley Woo contributed six field goals and two PATs in the victory.

"We are starting to get in gear," stated Head Coach Destiny McWhorter, "The first match was an offensive showcase, this one was to show our opponents that we know how to win ugly if we have to. We could've converted a few more drives, but we were in control."

For Deprí Lanar, it was an ugly game all around - none of the poise that the team had in their upset win over Chromia Central College. Dario Clementine went 11 of 18 for 169 yards, while Dart Wedigo carried 15 times for 81 yards and Teodoro Smart added 12 carries for another 62.

"They got us good this time," admitted Dario Clementine after the match, "I need to get the ball out quicker."

At least Warriors Kicker Caitlyn Bowens is doing well. She added three field goals and an extra point to the two field goals and two extra points from last week.

"The goal is to prove I can be as good as Sara (McAllister)," Bowens were quoted as saying.

The Vipers have a home date with the Hellcats next - their home opener at the confines of the ViperArena. Deprí Lanar University will try to bounce back on the road at Staramara.

Z'AI'AI - If this is the way that Deprí Sanar's defense can play, their opponents are in for a long season.

For two and a half quarters, Spartans Quarterback Sammie Flynn was kept in check. He struggled, going 8 of 18 for 57 yards; Augustan Fontaine was being stopped as well with 11 carries for 43 yards. What kept the Spartans in the game? Their defense.

It wasn't that Theresia Goldman wasn't getting yards. The Hellcats Quarterback had 210 yards by halftime and would finish with 32 of 46 for 418 yards. However, she had a problem - Strong Safety Alphonse Rosenbaum. The Hellcat intercepted three of Goldman's passes in the end zone all over the field and contributed to four other passes being batted down. Otherwise, Goldman's drives were all stopped before they could hit the Spartan 20, Nydia Leon converting on all four field goals.

Then, the game turned on one single play.

It was another play where Sammie Flynn was being chased. This time, he spun away from Cori Layne and found Sherley Evers all alone streaking down the left sideline. The throw was perfect, with Evers catching it in stride. Eighty-two yard touchdown catch. The Spartans were in it.

After a few drives going back and forth in the fourth quarter, the Hellcats made their last mistake. Goldeman found Melisa Espion in the flat, but the normally reliable Senior Tight End had the pass bounce off her hands just for Cornerback Ambrose Zuniga to get his hands on it, returning it to the two yard line. Two plays later, Augusta Fontaine crossed the end zone and the Spartans had the lead.

Two last gasps by Goldman fell short as well, and Z'ai'ai had outgained Deprí Sanar by a total of 446 yards to 247, and lost. Sammie Flynn ultimately finished 15 of 28 for 179 yards and a score, while Augusta Fontaine added 68 yards on the ground.

"That's how you do it!" shouted Alphonse Rosenbaum afterwards, "We hung in there, and then Sammie came through like we thought that he would. Nobody say that he can't come up clutch!"

"This loss is on me," lamented Theresia Goldman, "I feel like I was being read all day." That is one good start and one bad start for the Hellcat Quarterback.

The Hellcats have the unenviable task of traveling to Myana to take on the red-hot Vipers, while the Spartans will try to keep up their form against Chromia Central College University.

CHROMIA - In another sold-out game at Chromatik City Field, everyone thought that Todd Kreston would be the biggest star on the day.

Instead, it was the day for Ardell Moreau to declare his existence in the Chromatik Collegiate Gridiron Conference. The running back carried the ball 25 times for 223 yards, an astounding total. 164 of those yards came on three touchdown carries that put the game away for good, while the Lava defense did just enough to keep Tod Kreston from utterly taking over the game.

Kreston, who had struggled in his first game, had a much better day, going 24-of-33 for 214 yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. The dual-threat was effective for 15 carries and 69 yards on the ground as well, and was often the entirety of the Comet offense. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough with the way that Moreau was running.

Beila Stitt and Ceola Sigler led the way for most of those yards, as the left side of the Staramara line mowed the way through the heart of the Comet defense. Sheilah Pantoja was decent, going 8 for 13 for 86 yards.

For CCCU, being the only school without a victory is not how the way that they wanted to start the season. There needs to be someone else to step up alongside him. Don't count them out, though - CCCU is a deep squad, and the season is young.

Staramara heads home to take on Deprí Lanar, while CCCU will hope for the first victory at Deprí Sanar.

Close Wins Are Still Wins, Assholes

Sadeg State has gotten off to a great start in the NSCF 23 season so far, but you wouldn't know that from asking any pundits. While there are several different power rankings from different media outlets, most of them seem to agree that the Skyhawks are old news, the Felswyr State are the new big dogs of the Horizon Conference. Seriously?? Okay, we'll admit it, we dropped the ball against the Firehawks last season. But to think that we're no longer the cream of the Horizon crop? It's an unbelievable affront.

When Sadeg State won the Horizon Conference in their first season, did everybody just toss Ramusok Capital to the wayside? Did the Cosumarites stop being legitimate threats? Well, technically they did, but there's no way people would've known that in the preseason! It's frankly offensive how lowly Sadeg State is being valued right now. Allow me to regale the tale of State's 2-0 start to the conference season.

Cavsar

We started off our season with a home stand against ... *yawn* ... Cavsar University. Our fellow Drawkians, who don't even possess half of our football prowess, came into Skyhawks' Gridiron Park and thought they could come away with an upset. HA! They really thought they had a chance.

I'll admit, our offense had a pretty mediocre game, especially in the second and third quarters. But by God, Nick Parks would refuse to lose, and continued to push the envelope and stay ahead of Cavsar to the fourth quarter. The game came down to the final play, where Cavsar barely managed to squeeze in a weak touchdown to have a chance to continue the game. Instead of going for the PAT to send the game to OT, as any smart team would do, they insisted to try for the two point conversion, which their "tactical genius" coach thinks was a good idea. Let me remind everyone here that Cavsar were currently 1/3 on two point conversions so far in the game. Listen, the law of averages doesn't mean your next play is going to be a gimme. You still have to work for it.

Now this is where there's apparently some sort of "controversy" regarding the end result. Cavsar ran some boneheaded option play, and their QB (not as good a runner as Nick Parks btw) decided to keep it and dive for the end zone. Fortunately for us, Chris Boyd was there to tackle him short and the game was over. If you have a friend who's a Cavsar fan (condolences for having to deal with one, btw), ask them how they felt about the end of the game. I'm sure they'll rant and rave and cry and bitch and moan for 20 minutes about how the refs got the spot wrong, how "no really! he really made it in! the tip of the ball crossed the plane!", and so on and so forth.

But you know what Cavsar? You didn't even deserve to be in that spot. You know how that two point conversion doesn't matter? How about you kick a field goal instead of having your shitass QB throw an incompletion on 4th and 5 in field goal range. How about your senior kicker not be trash and actually make a field goal later in the game? How about you actually score more often? That would be a guaranteed way to not be "screwed by the refs." Maybe if your team wasn't actually a massive trash heap pretending to be an NSCF-level squad, you'd have won this game. But no, you're all little baby bitches who can't handle when you get exposed for the frauds you are. Try again next season, and try recruiting an actually good QB this offseason.

Moving on, apparently our "close shave" with Cavsar led several pundits to believe we were no longer a powerful squad, or something. Really? We win a game against (other's words, not mine) a "contender" in Cavsar, and suddenly we drop below Felswyr in the rankings? Gimme a fucking break. Felswyr beats up on a bottom feeder and suddenly they're frontrunners for the conference again, or something. This is an absolute affront to our team.

Felswyr State

So the easy solution here is to go to Chromatika in Week 2, beat the piss out of the Firehawks, and take our rightful spot as the Horizon Conference frontrunners. And you know what? That's exactly what we did. It wasn't going to be easy, but it was absolutely doable.

I'll admit, the game started a little shaky. Our first drive would result in a punt after a few first downs, but that's okay. Felswyr State has a tough defense, so it was expected that our offense would take a little while to get fully adjusted to it. On the other hand, the offseason gave plenty of time for Brand Manlio and Jarrett Schwartz to come up with a way to stop the meme offense of the Firehawks. Come on, no running backs? Throwing 40 passes a game and sometimes getting end arounds or QB keepers? This is what I run when I'm bored in my college football video game. The fact that this squad came a game away from winning the championship is an embarrassment for the entire NSCF.

Anyway, our defense came out with a plan. The plan, of course, was to stop Sarai Gwenderyn. The still-young QB for the Firehawks is quick on her feet and quick on her release. The Sadeg State front seven had a plan, and that plan equated to "put her on her ass as often as possible." Though she got some passes off, the defensive line and occasional linebacker were always a step behind and would plow her to the turf. With a spy lurking more often than not, Gwenderyn was forced early in the game to abandon the run. There was simply nowhere to go, and when there was somewhere to go, she knew she wouldn't be able to go far before getting laid out.

Fortunately for us, we'd hold Felswyr to a punt. That's where things got interesting. On the ensuing drive, the Skyhawks drove all the way down to the goalline, but a great swat by Paul Mattieu would send a third down pass to the turf, forcing us to settle for a field goal. Once again, Felswyr State would come out on offense, and once again we neutralized them underneath and barely kept them at bay over top. The swarm constantly harassing Gwenderyn in the pocket was doing lots of work for us. Once again we'd force a punt, but once again our offense would come out only to stall out just outside the red zone. The "bend but don't break" defense was ruling the day for Felswyr, and Nat Knox would knock his second field goal of the contest through.

With the speed the Chromatiks had on both sides of the ball, it was only a matter of time until one of them could make a play. This would come early in the second quarter, where the deep threat Alessandra Mio would run a shake route which left her wide open to run a streak. Gwnederyn nearly took a sack from Bruce Barr, but she escaped and launched the ball downfield, landing safely in Mio's grasp as she fell into the end zone. The NSCF 22 Special Teams Player of the Year, Sara McAllister, made the PAT, something she does all the time. All of a sudden, the game was 7-6 in Felswyr's favor.

This wouldn't discourage us, however, and we'd continue to roll down the field. Nick Parks began taking advantage of our taller receivers by throwing tons of high-point passes, both deep and shallow. While the Firehawks could easily keep up, they couldn't exactly get up to where the ball was being thrown. With this, though, came a few airmails from Parks, one of which ended up falling on third down, forcing yet another field goal attempt deep in Felswyr territory. With the score at 7-9, the game was still razor close.

The key for the Firehawks became the deep ball from here on out. Anything thrown underneath was either knocked away or instantly punished for little yardage. The "run game", if you could call it that, was already being stymied by the front seven. This only left relying on their speed in the deep field to try and create separation, which had mixed results. It could reliably get the Firehawks down the field, but once they got close to the red zone, they would run out of room for deep shots, and the Skyhawk defense would crush the short game. Bending, not breaking, and forcing the STPoY to continue making perfect kicks to keep Felswyr State in the game.

With a two minute drill separating the State Hawks from halftime, the Skyhawks looked to get one more drive in, and take back the lead now that they were trailing 10-9. Nick Parks once again showed his prowess with the pass, with several deep passes getting Sadeg State down the field quickly. A shot to Navis just outside the end zone was caught, but he fell short of the line to gain and Sadeg State was set up with a 1st and goal, couple yards to go, and plenty of time to run four straight plays if necessary. With some time to play with, Manlio called an outside run to Raymond Morgan, hoping to catch the Firehawks off guard. Instead, Amber Li saw the play and hit Morgan so hard he fumbled the ball, and it was scooped up. Thankfully Li fell as she recovered the ball, blowing the play dead, but the points for Sadeg were now off the board.

The second half would be a defensive struggle for both squads. Sadeg State's defense, killing the short game and limiting the deep game, was still working out in spades. Over the rest of the game, Felswyr State would only get on Sadeg State's side of midfield twice, and both times they had to settle for McAllister field goals. On the other side of the ball, Nick Parks continued to light up the passing game, but they too would peter out whenever they got to midfield. A few missed fourth down conversions, a few punts, and soon it was the middle of the fourth quarter, time winding down, and the Skyhawks were trailing 16-9.

After forcing another Firehawk punt, the Skyhawks got to work deep in their own territory. Late in the game and pressed for time, Manlio was already barely utilizing the run, and this drive was no exception. Parks continued his air raid, high pointing passes far out of Chromatik reach. While it was effective for getting completions, the Skyhawks were getting hardly any RAC yards, as the Firehawk defenders were always right on the receivers. Once again, it seemed that Sadeg State were approaching the spot where they couldn't get a first down. Stuck with a 3rd and 10 at the 30, and less than 3 minutes on the clock, it seemed unlikely that a field goal would be enough to stay in the game. They needed a touchdown.

Through all this passing, though, the nickel defense of Felswyr State hadn't bothered to cover the run, and that seemed to be working out in spades. Manlio continued to call pass, pass, pass. But what some people forgot is that Gwenderyn isn't the only mobile quarterback that plays for a Hawk-based State college. With the game on the line, 3rd and 10, Nick Parks got the shotgun snap looking for another pass. Yet again, though, the receivers were all blanketed. It was a deep passing pattern, though, and the middle of the field was suddenly wide open. With a gap in the pocket, Parks suddenly shot out like a bullet, and zipped past the only linebacker left in the area. Not only did Parks get the first down, but he was looking for paydirt. A nasty spin on Usmer Gialla put only one player between Parks and the end zone: Sage Sterling, a Ranorian recruit. Sterling was looking to hit Parks hard and punish him, already leaning forward to take him out low. Parks saw his, and instead of going down to meet him, he went up. A beautiful hurdle sent Parks flying clean over Sterling, and he landed the hop a few steps from the waiting end zone.

A PAT later, and suddenly the game was deadlocked at 16. With so little time left, Felswyr State resorted to as short a passing and small running game as possible, managing to get a first down and suck enough time to end the game. They couldn't get into field goal range, however, because that could've risked stopping the clock enough to give Sadeg the ball back. So instead, the Firehawks were content to take the game to overtime.

Overtime would be a tense affair, with both teams starting close to the end zone, a place where both teams had struggled all game. The Skyhawks got the ball first, and luckily Manlio had scripted a couple OT drives prior to the season. This starting drive for Sadeg State would go fine. Parks went 3/4 passing for 20 yards, and he capped off the drive with a 3 yard read option touchdown run. A simple, easy, automatic PAT later, and the Skyhawks had done all they needed to start OT.

Then the Firehawks would get the ball. It would be a challenge for them, too, in the short field. Sadeg State managed a sack (thanks Bruce Barr), then an incompletion, and the Firehawks were teetering on the brink. This time though, they had something up their sleeve. Niles Gwivern, the tight end who had been running shorter routes most of the game, suddenly popped out and ran a seam on third and long. The linebacker covering him, Godfrey Bonner, got baited by a quick fake inside, and suddenly Gwivern was wide open past the sticks. Gwenderyn got the ball over Bonner and into the hands of Gwivern, who split the Cover 2 safeties and plowed into the end zone to score for Felswyr State.

The home crowd was going insane, cheering resounding through the arena which hadn't seen much cheering since midway through the fourth quarter. Finally they'd hit paydirt again, and it was time for a second overtime. The crowd was still roaring as the STPoY, the automatic, the professional, the absolutely ice-cold killer in Sara McAllister set up for the most routine of all plays - a PAT. The sidelines were still celebrating as the ball was snapped. The Firehawks on the field were still grinning as Kingston snapped the ball to Nellie Katt. McAllister couldn't even hear the crowd as she went through the motions to send the ball through the uprights. Nobody seemed to pay any mind to Dewey Belrose, the sophomore special teamer, who had perfectly timed the snap and leapt through the still-developing Firehawk line.

And for any other team, they wouldn't have to pay him mind. But for the 7-foot-8 Drawkian speedster, they should've paid attention. The kick, which under any normal circumstances, would've been a gimme, flew straight into the outstretched hand of Dewey Belrose. The ball ricocheted back towards McAllister and Katt, and bounced right past them. Belrose somersaulted as he landed, and popped right back up to sprint and dive onto the ball.

With the crowd still roaring, it took a moment for the Chromatiks to realize what had just happened. The whistles blew, no good. The Skyhawks sideline was emptied as the whole team came to mob the now-hero Belrose. Sadeg State 23, Felswyr State 22. Final, OT. The Firehawks were finally fallen in the Horizon Conference.

We have more to prove?

I'm thinking of a real career in sportwriting, btw. I might add this to my portfolio. ANYWAY!

After all of this, after this affair of stopping the rinky-dink Chromatik offense and outplaying their defense, something only TWO TEAMS have done so far before us, what do we get in return? Oh, well some pundits will put us right UNDER Felswyr State in their rankings. What?????? I am genuinely perplexed as to how this is somehow a win for the Firehawks. We beat them. They lost. To us! Sure we have a low point differential, but that's because we haven't played any cannon fodder yet. How is that our fault? Talk about "convincing wins" all you want, but we won the game. We beat them. And unlike last season, we weren't losing by a large margin. The age of Felswyr State owning the Horizon Conference, however short-lived, is over. We're still conference contenders, and we're still getting zero respect for it.

Unbelievable, honestly. I'm hoping we run up the score on the next three teams we play so that the "experts" are forced to give us our due. It's only fair, apparently.

Never did I imagine this,

When I agreed to accept a scholarship offer from New Lakeland University, the thought of playing international college football never crossed my mind. It was something that never came up during the campus visits or the meetings with the coaching staff. I was not recruited by schools from other countries, but had many offers from schools within Cassadaigua. I was lucky, though, because New Lakeland University was always at the top of my list. I visited other schools, like the University of Concord Heights and Grande Mountain University, and could see myself playing for them, but it was all about NLU to me. Another school that appealed to me was the Victoriaville School of Business, but they were always going to be a second choice. The prestige of NLU made it all worthwhile. When they offered me a scholarship, it was a pretty easy decision.

My mother, as some people know, is a professional sports agent, and represents clients in football as well as baseball. Mostly, football, though. And of course, I should probably say that whenever a Cassadagan talks about football, we are talking about this sport, not soccer. Mom attended New Lakeland University as well, but did not play any sports. She majored in Sports Economics, and took that to where she is today. She never gave me anything free in life, and told me that I had to make the most of my opportunity in college, that I could never fall back on playing professional football. I am following in her lead, majoring in Sports Economics, because even though my mother can tell me a lot about her trade, the classroom experience can never be replaced. That’s why NLU was an easy decision for me. University of Concord Heights has a good business program, too, and I could have gone there, but NLU is a win-win, for academics, and for football.

Now, there’s international football. Last year, about midway through, you started to hear some gossip around campus that the administration was watching the NSCF closely, and not only for the entertainment value. They weren’t saying that we were going to play in the NSCF for this year, but simply they were studying the possibility of it. Throughout the team, we talked about it a little, but I don’t think that many of us thought that it would happen. Especially the upperclassmen, as they didn’t think it would happen so quickly that they would have much of a chance for them to play. As a freshman, I paid a little more attention to it, knowing that it didn;t happen right away for me to still have a chance to do so. During the spring semester last year, coach Brewer informed me and the rest of the team that the administration would like to play in the NSCF and just wanted to know what we thought of it. We all loved the opportunity, especially because it would be a special chance for us as the first time a school from Cassadaigua ever tried this, but we had concerns. Academics were a big one, and while some of us are more serious about hitting the books then others in the locker room, I will tell you that every single person in the locker room is serious enough about their studies to have had a concern about how this might impact them in the classroom. After a discussion, which did not take all that long, we knew that could not squander the opportunity, and we would do whatever was necessary to make it work in the classroom.

It was too late for coach Brewer to recruit for this team and give a pitch about us playing international football, but that is going to be a great advantage for us to assemble an even stronger team for next year, and in the years beyond. In our first game against St. Croix, we did not get the result we wanted, but you have to take a result like that, and learn from it. I believe that we did, and in going to Xanneria for the next game, we got our first ever win at this level, a 22-10 victory. Two field goals, two touchdowns, and what’s always fun for a defensive player: a safety, saw us through. I felt a little more confident in this game, and I think a lot of us did. Maybe XPI isn’t the strongest team in this conference, but we need to get wins, and now we’ll see if we can get some momentum going. The schools from Quebec are expected to be the best in the Woodlands Conference, but eventually our goal is to be at their level, and just maybe, surpass it. I’m a sophomore, I’ll have a few more cracks at it. And the younger classes? Even more. We’ll get there!

KSPN Power Rankings: Week 2

The second week of the NSCF has just occured and unlike week one in which there was one key matchup as you might call it (and it was a big one with the Ranorian duel) this week had multiple matchups between top 10 schools and more should be on the docket for week 3. There are no changes in the top three however there will definitely be changes throughout the rest of this list.

1. Cold Hill University - Ranoria (+/- 0)
Conference: Big Eight (1st)
Record: 1-1
Last Week: Defeated Lismore Christian 40-16

Yes I know a 24 point win where you score 40 points should never be cause for panic but after watching Kohnhead City literally hang 74 on Lismore Christian and after suffering the 11 point loss to Richardson many were expecting Cold Hill to dominate LCC. While Deondre Rhine might have been high in the clouds like a bird although this has yet to be confirmed and I doubt it will ever be Cold Hill should be winning this game by a lot more. We still have Cold Hill at #1 because we are giving them the benefit of the doubt but there next real test will be against Kohnhead City University in week 4 at Chicken King Stadium and a loss there could have us asking serious questions.

2. Raynor University - Valanora (+/- 0)
Conference: Zephyr (1st)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Thereisnogodistan Community College 40-10

While Raynor have checked all the boxes so far the Rockets just haven't faced the level of competition necessary to give them the #1 spot over Cold Hill. That should change with the three teams that have a realistic shot of taking them down being the three teams next up for Raynor and in no particular order they have Mar Sara, Ceneisis, and Bowerstone all in succession. If the Rockets walk away from that at 5-0 and Cold Hill continues to be unimpressive then we can have a conversation about putting them in first, for now they stay in second.

3. University of Loyola-Istria - Banija (+/- 0)
Conference: Celestia (1st)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Northern Dinagat State 43-24

I wasn't too impressed with Loyola-Istria in this one despite their high flying offense putting up 43 on the Barnettsville school as their defense let up 24. Loyola-Istria will stay in 3rd in these rankings but with Salamantic on the schedule at home this week it will give them a chance to show that a team that missed the playoffs last season truly deserves to be this high in the power rankings. In addition imagine how it would look if NMU walked away with a win against Salamantic and Loyola-Istria didn't, that's got to be extra motivation for them.

4. Richardson University - Ranoria (+1)
Conference: Big Eight (2nd)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Akers 40-10

Richardson got a cooldown of sorts following their upset of Cold Hill and gave them time to recover with Kohnhead City next up for them. The question for them is obviously if they can get past their woes against the Mighty Eagles especially at home in what promises to be a packed Dietrich Stadium with revenge on their minds. Last year the story all three times was similar, Richardson's lackluster offense wasn't good enough against a decent Kohnhead City defense, this year it's different as Saul Thomas Sr and Ezekiel Bantoba have turned this team into a very good offensive squad. On the flip side a normally high flying Kohnhead City offense was shut down by the Richardson defense but did just enough each time to walk out victorious, with The Mighty Eagles scoring at a historic pace and the Richardson defense looking suspect the game should be quite different.

5. Felswyr State University - Chromatika (-1)
Conference: Horizon (1st)
Record: 1-1
Last Week: Lost to Sadeg State 23-22 in Overtime

This article might get banned in Drawkland (except for Cavsar who will like it) as despite the cries of the Sadeg State fans because their team knocked off Felswyr State for the first time ever, they will still be behind them in the Power Rankings. The game was very tight as evidenced by it going all the way to overtime and the Sadeg defense passed the test of really putting a stop to Sarai Gwenderyn the Most Outstanding Player last season (OOC: I got it right this time Chrom I made sure). FSU however did well getting lots of big plays down the field and that's what gave them the 16-9 lead with limited time left. However the defense which played really well all day just couldn't stop Sadeg from scoring and in overtime after scoring to come within one of Sadeg, the PAT from Sara McAllister was blocked and FSU lost the heartbreaker.

6. Sadeg State University - Drawkland (+/- 0)
Conference: Horizon (2nd)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Felswyr State 23-22 in Overtime

Yes I know any Sadeg State supporters have probably stopped reading (if they ever were for that matter) at this point once they saw their listing under FSU but hear me out okay. That game could have gone either way except Sadeg got lucky with a PAT block after getting lucky on a 50-50 call to win against Cavsar in week 1, Cavsar a team that they are always talking smack about. SSU has a point differential of +2 despite being a 2-0 team and one of those was in overtime. Yes Sadeg has beaten one great team and one good team and has gotten the two most difficult games of their first five weeks out of the way, they should stat pad the next couple of weeks.

7. Kohnhead City University - Kohnhead (+/-0)
Conference: Big Eight (3rd)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Swisston City 52-14

Here's a stat that will tell you just how dominante Kohnhead CIty has been through their first two games, their point differential at +95 is more points than any team has scored on the season with Université du Saguenay having the second best offense at 92 points scored. 126 points through their first two games and they haven't moved up a spot is what some might ask but I just cannot justify putting KCU any higher because of their quality of opposition as they have played two new teams to the NSCF. If Kohnhead City defeat Richardson and improve their H2H record with them to 4-0, the Mighty Eagles will surge in the rankings but I just don't see it happening despite last season. For now however, fans get to absolutely revel in this historic pace and start that they have undergone in a very offensive Big Eight.

8. Northern Moravica University - Banija (+1)
Conference: Celestia (2nd)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Salamantic 13-12

I mean we had to raise NMU after their victory over a Salamantic Universities team that just doesn't look like it will quite be able to recapture the magic of last season. After being down 12-0 at haltime, NMU wanting to avoid being swept by Salamantic this season didn't quite let them advance to 2-0 just like that as they led a comeback with the sophmore Vallienté Wagner-Young out of Ranoria being a big part of it. What also should not go without a mention was the gutsy as can be call that resulted in a first down while down 12-7 and netted them an addition three points. And as time expired sophmore kicker Babou Guiss hit two field goals (one of which was neglected by an icing of the kicker) to knock off Salamantic and lead to celebrations in Banija. NMU will be moving up one rank in the power rankings which is just a testament to how stacked the NSCF is this year and they will need to beat Loyola if they want to further move up the rankings.

9. Université du Saguenay - Quebec and Shingoryeo (+1)
Conference: Woodlands (1st)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated New Springs 49-30

While it wasn't as dominant as their win in week one the team with the second best offense in college football (although still behind Kohnhead City's point differential) managed a comfortable 19 point victory over New Springs University out of Appalachian Nation. The top school in the Woodlands won't have to play the other school out of Quebec and Shingoryeo in the Université St. Croix until week 5 which could be a showdown between two undefeated teams. Saguenay gets the nod here due to their offense even though it was only a 19 point victory over New Springs and because SAFA did not impress enough in their win over Vietussia.

10. Squidroidia Armed Forces Academy - Squidroidia (N/A)
Conference: Mineral (1st)
Record: 2-0
Last Week: Defeated Vietussia Academy 33-20

Our Squidhead Cup rivals the Squidbreak from SAFA and the reigning Mineral Conference champions improved to 2-0 on the season although unlike in week one where they absolutely dominated Syracuse State University having the second best point differential and putting up over 50, this was a little less comfortable which is concerning considering the school out of United Vietussia is thought to be one of the punching bags of the NSCF. Really it was between SAFA and Salamantic for the final spot and I gave it to the team that has scored 90 points (tied for 3rd best in the league) and sits at 2-0 although it was quite close.

Warriors out of the gate fast, next two games on road

The University of the Commonwealth will look to make it three wins from three when they travel to Yesopalitha to face off against Freedom's Altar University, and coach Ryan Benton says that he's pleased with where the team are at in terms of performance so far in the NSCF season.

“We've moved the ball exceptionally well and the 'D' are playing lights out right now. The last game (at home against Trent State) doesn't look impressive to outsiders, because we had some mental breakdowns at key moments, but those are correctable mistakes I'd rather get out of the way early rather than popping up further down the line.”

The 20-9 win over the Feathercaps wasn't statistically all that different from the game against Vietussia, as UC rolled up 423 yards of total offense but failed to convert on 3rd down twice inside in the 10 yard line, settling for field goals, as well as being stopped on 4th and 1 at the 6 and Brandon Bullins throwing an interception in the endzone to take away another scoring opportunity.

Across the line, the Warriors have allowed only a single touchdown and six field goals to the opposition, while giving up only 97 yards per game on the ground; Albus Vergol, the freshman defensive end from Ranoria has recorded 3 ½ sacks and 6 tackles for loss thus far, carrying over his stellar play from the UAC campaign.

Anthony Frazier has averaged 47.6 yards per attempt on 8 punts so far, with no return yards (five fair catches and 3 out of bounds inside the 20) to give UC another weapon.

The next game after FAU will be also be away, against Syracuse State of Crilland, yet another debutant in the Mineral Conference.

It still appears that the key game will be on week 5 when the defending Mineral Champs Squidroidia Armed Forces Academy visits College Hill; the UC Athletic Department announced that the kickoff has been moved back to 1645 for television coverage, and that all tickets are sold or accounted for at this time.

Montressor Hawthorne trotted up to her and put a firm hand on her shoulder. "It was gonna happen eventually, Az. These are strong teams and they're horny for points. We weren't gonna shut 'em out forever."

"Doesn't mean I didn't fuck it up there." She motioned vaguely in the direction of one Graham Cornell, who caught the 7-yard pass into the endzone with an arm outstretched over his head while his feet stayed on the ground. Beating out her leaping attempt. "I have a better vertical than that, I can deal with these tall fucks, I just needed better footing."

"Then we'll get 'em next time. But get ready for them to break into double digits—this ain't Filly U."

"But first we gotta stop their fucking 2 point conversion addiction."

They did not stop it.

The Hoofstra defense lined up at the Cavsar 13—following a great punt from Longshot and a small run from Deon Beverly—with malice in their eyes. Karditani defenses are bigger scoring threats in the redzone than their offense is on balance, and a minor misjudgment from Seb Rosario on what could have been a slick first down was instead him booking it towards the sideline to try and intercept Azalea.

The rest of the Cavsar offense was a step behind; it was clear Rosario knew exactly what was going wrong the second the ball left his hand. It was up to him to hurl himself at this aggrieved interloper, and this he did with gusto.

Azalea tucked as the massive frame of the Drawkian QB hurtled towards her and effectively swept his legs with her back, sending him tumbling over her while getting just enough time to take one more big step into a dive into the endzone.

She pulled herself up and promptly spiked the ball. "THAT'S more fuckin' like it!"

The following few minutes would hold both disappointment and pleasant surprise. Disappointingly, Rosario was totally fine despite his tumble. Surprisingly, the offense came up straight out to attempt the two point conversion and tie the game... and succeeded! A wide backfield route to Frances Oberon, brought on in a shift from pistol to I, managed to sneak in under coverage.

REBORN FROM ASHES, FELSWYR - He loved gameday.

In a small school like Felswyr State located in a small town like Felswyr, sports was everything. Well, more like, school events were everything. Whether it was the drama department putting on their quarterly plays or the music department having a rehearsal or a sports team playing (the Firehawk football team was quite good, after all), the whole campus seemed to attend. When there were only 21,000 students on campus, it made sense.

The Felswyr State Firehawks Gridiron team had become a favorite on campus. Everyone loved the concept of their small time school sticking it up at the likes of CCCU and ZIoT in the CCGC while proving to the sports world at large that they were a force to be reckoned with. He even loved the quaint formations that they ran - no running backs on offense, a 30305 on defense - and nothing gave him more joy than announcing the Firehawk games.

He was Ji-Bum Kang, a Radio Journalism Major in his Junior year, and he was honored to be the voice of the Firehawks.

Today, The Sadeg State Skyhawks would be coming to town, looking to prove that the Firehawks' sweeping of them last season was a fluke. This matchup more than any other had the capacity to decide who would win the conference, barring any unforeseen contenders. Felswyr State, of course, would be hoping to go 3-0 in the series against them. Ji-Bum was more excited than nervous about the matchup - the Skyhawks would always be a qualify opponent.

So, he went up to the booth a half hour before kickoff...

"It's third down and goal from the FSU 6. Parks takes the snap. He looks left - Lia is coming from the right to pressure him - and the resulting pass is batted away by Paul Mattieu! The pass meant for Abram Navis in the left corner of the end zone is batted by the FSU cornerback, and that will be the end of that drive! Sure enough, Nat Knox is on, and he kicks it through, no problem. That'll be a 3-0 lead for the Skyhawks as the crowd's noise dies down by a bit."

"Gwenderyn's been sacked twice this game already by the sizeable Skyhawk line, and she is being harassed again. And he's stopped almost immediately by Mi-Hyeon Park! The Sophomore Captain of the Firehawks defense is there at the point of attack and puts an end to that play after a gain of only a yard! A neat instinctual play there! Knox comes on to the field, and he extends the Skyhawks' lead to six."

"It's 1st and 10 from the Firehawk 49, and Gwenderyn takes the snap. She's pursued almost immediately by Bruce Barr, but she spins away. She looks downfield, and Alessandra Mio is open! The speedster deep threat is open! The pass is caught without an issue at the end zone! She almost overshot Mio there, but the Senior has it, and the Firehawks are in the lead! The Firehawks are in the lead! She gout away from Paul Gore on a snake route and was just left alone. What a move by Gwenderyn to escape the sack as she gives FSU the lead."

"In this quarter, Parks has begun to throw a lot more, and it's working out for the Skyhawks because the Drawkians are much taller than Chromatiks. It's third-and-six from the FSU 26, and Parks takes the snap. He sees Brandon Brown down the right sideline, working on Usmer Gialla. Brown has a step on Gialla... But the ball goes inches from Brown's hands! What a miss! If Parks had hit Brown there, it could've been a touchdown for the Skyhawks! They'll have to settle for a Field Goal, which Nat Knox knocks through, no problem... And the Skyhawks have retaken the lead."

"Felswyr State has made some headway on this drive on some intermediate routes, but they're running out of real estate. It's third and five from the 21. Gwenderyn takes the snap, and the Firehawk line is handling the defense for once. She looks right and throws in the generic direction of Niles Gwivern - but the ball is swatted down by Johnny McCray, no problem. Is it possible that the height of the Drawkians is causing that much disturbance? Sara McAllister comes on, and the defending Special Teams Player of the Year knocks the 49 yarder through, no problem..."

"SSU is almost in the end zone. Parks takes the snap, and Morgan takes the handoff. He has some space, and is met head-on by Amber Li! What a hit, and, FUMBLE! That's a fumble! Amber falls on it, and that is the first turnover of the game, and what a place for it to occur! FSU keeps SSU from any points scored on the drive, and will maintain the lead heading into halftime! A stellar play from the Firehawks Linebacker to punch the ball out so close to the end zone!"

Third Quarter

"Gwenderyn has been really battered this game, having been sacked four times and hit six other times already. She's only carried the ball six times, and has been limited to be more of a pocket passer. It's third-and-two from the SSU 21. Gwenderyn gets the ball, and it's a designed keeper! She's going for it straight over the middle! And it's stopped! Michaels meets her head-on, and she's stopped a yard short!

It's a bit of a long field goal... Would Curentio consider going for it? Not when your kicker is Sara McAllister! In comes Ms. Automatic, and she is true! What a kick, and the lead is up to four."

Fourth Quarter

"FSU has really shut down the SSU attack in the second half, and a touchdown here could put the game away. It's third and six from the SSU 39. Gwenderyn takes the snap, and tosses it at Jottle. It's one of those designed end-arounds! Jottle round the corner, and is reaching the first down marker - and is stopped by Boyd! The Skyhawks linebacker stops Jottle from getting the first down... Leading to another choice by Curentino. Would she risk it? The answer is no, as McAllister comes on for what is going to be a 52 yard field goal. The snap is good, Katt's hold is perfect, and the defending Special Teams Player of the Year knocks it through. The lead is up to seven, but this could've been the knockout punch."

"SSU has to get it done here. It's third down and ten, with Parks likely going to throw another pass. He takes the snap, and can't find anyone open, but there is a gap in the middle of the field! Parks is taking off, and he runs past Mi-Hyeon Park! A nasty spin on Usmer Gialla, and he is looking for the end zone! Sage Sterling is catching up to him! Oh no! Sterling goes low, and Parks hurdles over him, with only a few yards till paydirt! What a move, and Parks scores! What a play by the Skyhawks Quarterback! Nat Knox on for the extra point, and this game is tied at sixteen!"

Gwenderyn needs to be smart and get six yards here for McAllister to have a decent try. She takes the snap. There doesn't seem to be any open receivers, and Gwenderyn is holding onto the ball too long! She tries to spin around Bruce Barr, but is taken down by Spike Hathaway! What a mistake by the usually reliable Gwenderyn, taking the sack like that. Now with the ball at midfield, FSU will have no choice but to head to overtime."

"Parks has been sensational this drive, and the FSU defense seems a bit gassed. He takes the snap, and decides to keep it himself! There's nobody containing him, as the FSU defense seems to have misread that situation, and the blocking is pristine! He walks into the end zone, no problem... And there's the extra point to put the Skyhawks up seven. Felswyr State will have to answer."

1st OT - FSU Possession

"With Bruce Barr having sacked Gwenderyn - the sixth sack by the Skyhawks this game - it's third and sixteen from the SSU 31. FSU needs something to go right here. Gwenderyn takes the snap, and Gwivern is on a seam! Godfrey Bonner gets faked out, and Gwenderyn finds Gwivern, who splits the safeties! Touchdown, Felswyr State! Touchdown! The crowd is going wild! This game is going to second overtime!

On comes Sara McAllister for the extra point to tie things up. There's the snap... The Hold... AND IT'S BLOCKED?! OH NO! OH NOOOO!"

After that, Ji-Bum Kang didn't say a word for two minutes as the crowd looked on in stunned silence. A few seconds earlier, they'd been a roaring crowd of 14,000. A special player made a special play.

Then, there was just stunned silence.

PART 16.2 (58.2) - Lose Your Head

'Plongeon, or should I say Eileen?' Christine shook her head to left once, the end of her question particularly sharp on its edge and numbing at the back. She knew that was going to work. 'Mylene said she saw her and her boyfriend walking earlier in the Odeon District.' The six-footer queen quietly left a mental note to her friend, sure in being able to engage her with a slight reminder of Eileen. 'The one in her industry, from what I heard.' She emphasised her part, to distinguish the different worlds people had lived at times in high society.

‘Well, Mylene must be busy chasing clouds and boys again, instead of attending modules in daylight.’ Asher shrugged and tried to pull himself together, after being stung about the reminders of his ex-girlfriend out of blue. ‘Please don’t tell me to join her, I’m out of money again...’ It had been a challenging week for Asher in all facets, and the temptation couldn’t have helped things get any worse.

Of course, Asher was fine with the fact that his friends, from the Princess and the lunch club ‘ride and die’s’ to his baseball teammates, had teased him to make a move. As long as it didn’t end up with a rich kid’s brat getting punched for making a misogynistic remark, it was fine for him. Asher knew he made the right decision, and he did his best to stay true to it.

‘Preferring to let your friends do the work?’ Christine asked, watching Ian Lautner fake a hand-off to speedy Ken Nagatomo, before throwing a 5 wide shovel pass to Marquis Taylor, the junior tight end, in what was a solid 7-yard gain to the St. Croix 27-yard line. ‘Is that why you are going away again?’

‘First, that was a good shovel pass that the mike-54 should’ve remembered from the video room meeting most recent thursday,’ Asher replied, without trying to sound too provoked. ‘And second, it means that I will be as far away as possible, and won’t have to think about her, who seems to be perfectly happy on her own, without me.’

‘Yes, but have you ever thought you could be that lucky one? Don’t you have no shame as the actual first person she shared everything with you?’

Asher paused, trying his best not to get into yet another argument with the princess. ‘You see, your majesty. It is true that I was the lucky person, and she was the first person I really had something serious...but not all fairytales were meant to last forever. Thus, in order to save her from the tales she would not bear, I had to cut the ties on my own. You know why, and I do not think it needs further explanation.’

‘That does not need explanation, but running away to Concord Heights, where the Times are always at forefront and my husband resides, or Grearia, where you have set up Esportivan circles of decadence, does not mean you will get away with this forever,’ Christine sternly responded, the interception passing before her eyes. At this point, the Princess of Abitibi could care less about her housemate and good friend, one of few classmates whom she had trusted on campus, being hurt over the matter. Right now, they were talking as friends no less and no more. ‘I’m sure you know that, being the next Baron de Chanie, so why are you causing even more pain to those loved ones before their eyes?’

‘What if fate brings me back to her, and we are being faced with the same question?’ Asher asked, and for once, they could feel the past and the present transcend. Not just Asher, but also the Queen as well.

Rockets and Raiders Prepare For Battle

It is fair to say that when the season started, that the Rockets of Raynor University were intent on retaining their conference title from the Zephyr, after having snatched it away from the grasp of Bowerstone in the second half of the regular season last season. The Bearcats of Bowerstone out of Anthor last season had taken the conference by storm and had completed turned the tables on the three other teams that had thought to be contending for the title. Yet in the second half of the season, they fell from form while the Rockets were hitting their stride, a stride that nearly took them all the way to the title game if not for some late heroics in Ranoria by eventual champions Cold Hill. While the Rockets have not exactly been flashy in the first two games of the season, they had been very efficient and had predictably and comfortably won both games en route to the showdown with Bowerstone inside the capital in the third game of the season. It was billed as to be a battle between two of the contenders for the conference title, yet Bowerstone was coming into the game licking their wounds after the Raiders pipped them in Anthor the week before, and it was not a battle in the slightest.

What transpired in the capital was that of an offensive onslaught and the ruthless precision and efficiency that one would come to expect from the likes of Laborious Hawk and the Marauders of the national football team, not a collegiate gridiron team that had nearly been recalled from competing in the NSCF twice in the last few years. Bowerstone stood absolutely no chance, the Rockets scored on all nine of their offensive possessions while the defense managed to produce not just one but two safeties in an absolute blitzing of the Bearcats, who were only able to put up a late touchdown and trio of field goals in the fourth quarter after the entire first string offense and defense had been brought off the field. Sixty-seven points is a record high for the Rockets who are used to putting up large numbers on the scoreboard, but never had they done anything like this, with Duke Beckett continuing his streak of a touchdown in each of his first three games, while star wideout Chinweuba Jelan had a hattrick of receiving touchdowns to add to his season total, taking him up to six for the season so far. It was as if the Rockets were saying that this conference is theirs and no one is supposed to even be a road bump on their way to that title.

However that might hit a bit of turbulence when the Rockets go into Mar Sara next week, as the Raiders have also gone a perfect three wins from three to open up conference play, even if it has been in far less than dominant of fashion than their Vanorian counterparts. It is perhaps a more impressive feat that the Raiders are on a three game winning streak to open the conference when one has to consider that they were replacing their entire offensive line and receiving corps on offense as well as having played all the other contenders outside the Rockets in the first three weeks of the season. The biggest of them perhaps this week when they hosted the traditional Fleftic powerhouse of Ceneisis Naval Academy. The Ensigns are the traditional winners of the Zephyr Conference but have failed to keep that crown in the last two years and the Raiders showed now mercy in their own efficient win over the Ensigns. A surprisingly dominant display on defense, with two interceptions and holding the Ensigns to a single field goal allowed the offense time to get going and the Kiggwe Chasima powered the team to victory with a trio of rushing touchdowns and Mateusz Svendsen adding a receiving touchdown as well.

That brings us to the battle in Mar Sara this upcoming Saturday, a primetime 19:00 kickoff has been allotted to the game to allow the most amount of fans to be able to travel and watch the game on television. "The Battle of the Royal Saber" will be on the line, as the two schools will not only be playing for upperhand in controlling the conference race, but also a heavily decorated steel saber that allegedly was used by one of the Raynors during a battle to defend the homeland centuries ago. It has been safely tucked away in the capital for the last year and the Rockets will want it to stay that way, using their suffocating defense and the efficient and tricksy offense that demoralizes their opposition until the Rockets can not be stopped. However the Raiders have defied all expectations thus far this season, having bypassed what most people had believed to be a rebuilding year and who is to say that they can not do the unfathomable and upend the Rockets in this huge all Vanorian matchup? Regardless of whoever comes out on top, both schools look very poised to enter the second half of the round robin in a good run of form, as both as quietly saying to themselves that the only games they think they might lose before the out of conference trio is "The Battle of the Royal Saber" games. Confidence is high for both, yet one will have to fall and lose that perfect record.

For many people with a keen interest in college football, the Week 3 slate for the NSCF season had 2 big games and a bunch of other smaller ones - NSCF finalists from the previous season Felswyr State traveling up to Drawkland to take on the Gladiators of Cavsar State, while Big 8 action focused on the crowds of Ranoria as Richardson played host to Kohnhead City. In the Mineral Conference, however, there was a "medium sized" game. Although not as crucial to the Squidbreak's season as the trip to the fortress of College Hill, Trent State were still an opponent for the SAFA. The Feathercaps, based on the Islands of Europa and coached by Johnny Bridgeford, Notts wasn't greeted with a win in collegiate gridiron football... Not yet, anyways. In their second home game of the season, Trent State wanted their first win to come at the hands of last season's surprise package, and were ready to give it their all. The Academy, on the other hand, knew that they couldn't ghost up on teams anymore. They had to fight tooth and nail for every win at this point.

The game was a back and forward affair with leads changing left and right and straight down the middle. Both teams were on their best both on offense and on defense, a special thing seemingly only saved for the games against UOTC at this point for the Squidbreak. It would be the Feathercaps that got to scoring first, as Klaveon Tyrell made a 10 yard rush to the endzone to get Trent State 7 points. From there it was back and forward. One moment Trent State would score, the Squidbreak would respond. SAFA gets a field goal? The Feathercaps had their number and were ready to punch 3 in. Both teams had 3 touchdowns and 3 field goals to their credit as the final 2 minutes got underway. Trent State had the ball and wanted to win.

Gareth Baldwin got to work almost immediately as his team were on the 20. 80 yards separated them and a surefire victory. First play? 12 yard pass to Whitehorse, chains turned over. They call a time out. 1:53 to go. Balwin scrambles before Jackson catches the ball and runs to the Trent State 45. 1:13, 2 time outs when Baldwin makes an incompletion. 1:08. 2nd and 10. Baldwin steps back, fakes it, scrambles below the line of scrimmage, and throws the ball...

The Inkling grabs the ball and rushes from the sight of the interception, the Squidbreak 40, to the 45, to the 50, to the Trent State 45 where the play happened. He gets tackled by Jakob Håland just a couple yards later. 1:03 to go. The Squidbreak use this opportunity to charge their way up to the Trent State 8 yard line with 30 seconds to go. They have no time outs, they wasted their last one after their last play. Jankowski has the ball, he looks for players open and sees his partner Jonny Hermansson. He throws the ball, which Hermansson catches with a Trent State player guarding him. Sherwood Field goes silent. The Squidbreak had another touchdown. 1 extra point and a valiant effort by the Feathercaps thwarted later, and they were 3-0. The Escape from Notts. The Jerome Pick. The Storm Before the Warrior Hurricane. No matter how you say it, it was a well deserved win.

But the worst was yet to come... A trip to College Hill awaited the Inklings. Time to set the score.
