Hand lifted.
San Ortelio, your favorite pseudo-Italian, coastal microstate. Less than half a million inhabitants who stand for a rich culture, are governed
by an delicate yet marvellously balanced system and remain economically viable due to fishing and funky tax laws.
But enough about us. Come vai?

We're no international threat, so have our domestic thread.
Definitely check the invitation box in the OP if you want to get involved.

We are an attempt at an over the top Central Asian style dictatorship with our influences being mainly Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Most policies and stats are cannon, but issues are picked with the craziest or most dictator friendly option in mind. All policies are considered cannon aside from Geronticide.

EURA37
EFA bid to host the 37th Copa Rushmori

Experience

I have previously co-hosted two major international tournaments, the 24th Copa Rushmori and 60th Baptism of Fire. On a smaller level I have also briefly hosted the CR Under 21’s and Under 17’s. It has therefore been a little while since I last hosted a major tournament and my hosting experience is surprisingly sparse as a regular on this forum for many yeaars, but I do have the requisite experience to host and I have plenty of experience in my professional life of running scheduled events, as well as writing, reading and evaluating text. I’m also a very experienced RPer having been on NS Sport for nearly a decade, putting me in good stead for evaluating RPs.

The plan – format, schedule, scorination

As far as I can tell we have 32 signups (including a couple of puppets), so my plan would be to keep it simple; an eight-group single round robin (either 8 x 4 teams for 32 signups, or 8 x 5 teams if we get closer to 40), followed by Round of Sixteen > QF > SF > 3PPO/Final.

The schedule would obviously be subject to change as needed, but my default plan would be:
March 18 – Groups MD1
March 20 – Groups MD2
March 22 – Groups MD3
March 24 – Ro16
March 26 – QF
March 28 – SF
March 30 – 3PPO and Final

The order of tiebreakers for the group stage will be:
1. Goal Difference
2. H2H results
3. H2H goal difference
4. Wins
5. Coin toss

Scorination will be based on the NSFS scorinator, using the CR ranks (with WCC bonus), with cutoff taking place at 23:00 UTC on every matchday. RP bonus will be cumulative, non-degrading and generous, and there will be a roster bonus equivalent to one extra matchday. Third party scorination will be requested for any Eura games if Eura makes the knockouts.

Why Eura?

Situated in the south east of Rushmore, Eura is a huge, Anglophone nation stretching from the Endemian Ocean in the east to Austroslovakia and the Askoy mountain range in the west. A federalized parliamentary democracy home to nearly three billion people, Eura was once a conflict-riven land of many small states and warlords, eventually brought together by centuries of civil war, political developments and the growth of a Euran national identity. Now it has become a central focal point of political, economic and cultural significance in modern Rushmore, dominated by overpopulated but thriving megacities and sprawling towered suburbia; a big presence in sport and the arts, a leading member of the Common Rushmori Community, long-term holder of the Rushmore delegation for the World Assembly and an economic juggernaut.

Eura is a well-established footballing nation with a highly successful national team and domestic football system, and as mentioned in the “Experience” section above it has previously co-hosted this tournament – but it is better known as a participant, having been almost ever present in the tournament for most of its history and champion three times. The country possesses not just footballing pedigree, but also infrastructure, with a wide array of large, modern stadiums across the country and advanced (if at times a little stretched) public transport systems for getting fans moving. The competing teams will all be dreaming of playing in the iconic Bastion Arena, but to get there they will have to navigate other iconic venues of Euran football such as the intimidating concrete leviathan of the Sasky Rising Memorial Stadium, the passionate and blood red Castle Road, and the picturesque Olympic Stadium in Spartangrad (which ironically has never hosted an Olympics!)

Despite struggles during recent years, including the all-consuming conflict with Sameba that still scars the country a decade on, Eura has bounced back to see off those challenges and put itself in a good position to host international football tournaments once more.

Bid looks fine so this doesn't affect my vote, but assuming the default format, would the Round of 16 be re-seeded, or just be A1 v B2, etc.?

Good question - the plan in my head was to go A1 v B2 and so on.

Congratulations, Eura!

I'll admit to a little bit of a brain fart here. I thought it was a different user when I cast my vote.

Oh well. Looking forward to finally fielding a team in a sport other than lacrosse!

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of updates since I was selected as host; the schedule will probably be a few days behind the original plan (partly due to issues I've had getting NSFS to work on my new computer), but nevertheless a full thread will be up soon.

I was in a bit of a tight spot with signups given we had 31 nations + 4 conditional puppets, but with EFL's signup we are now at 32. As EFL is a regular user and main nation I think it makes sense to proceed with 32 nations (EFL being the 32nd), so unless anyone has any suggestions for getting to 40 in the next day or two, the four conditional puppets will not be included.
