After over seven months in the hospital and many more spent in anguish, King Alastair IV is in desperate need of joy in his life. He has been battling the physical and mental illnesses caused by crippling alcoholism, including cirrhosis and depression, as well as the deleterious aftereffects of the sepsis that almost took his life.
The healing process is proving to be slow and difficult; he often gets frustrated by his weakened state and upset by the strain his illness has put on his family. He is extremely remorseful and filled with self-loathing, especially when he is idle, which is often. Due to his frailty, he is not able to walk long or for great distances, and he requires the assistance of a walker and other nurses. Reduced motor functioning has a role in his difficulty, too, as he suffers from extensive brain damage. Something that especially upsets him about this is the hard time he has with producing language. He has problems finding the right words to express himself and has slurred speech.
His family and caretakers are patient with him and eager to do everything they can to help him heal and improve his quality of life. They all love him dearly and only want what is best for him, which includes an extensive support system.
Alastair's family seek to bring him happiness and remind him that he is loved. With his birthday approaching on 12 March, they have decided to reach out to friends and fellow heads of state to give him the special day he deserves.

- This thread is NOT an RP. You will not be interacting with Alastair directly here; rather, you are writing him a birthday card.
- The birthday messages will be written ICly as your nations leader(s). If your leader is illiterate, it can be assumed they have a transcriber. Something along similar lines can be assumed for a character who does not canonically speak English.
