Real life culture influence: Sechelt/Shishalh, Coast Salish
Real life culture of former colonizer: East Asian
Population: 2,775,030
GDP (PPP) per capita: $15,220
GDP (nominal) per capita: $4,754
Military manpower (active/reserve): 51,320 / 160,000
Language(s): Sháshíshálh
Nation description: A small Ti Sqa (Salishan) nation in surrounded by Wakashan countries. While its neighbours look to Sinju for influence, Hekatsut is oriented towards Hachuabsh, because of their shared culture (and possibly former control?). Hekatsut lost a large portion of its territory to Yuluil in the mid-1900s. While large numbers of Hekatsutans were evicted and the territory was resettled, Hekatsut still claims the area and violent conflict with Yuluil has repeatedly broken out over the years.

Real life culture of former colonizer: Lots, the jewel of the east asian crowns has switched hands at least 3 times, with influences seeping over with a number of korean, vietnamese, and chinese cultures.
Population: 35 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $415.5

Nation description:
soria had once been the major play ground of the francian religion, throwing its weight around constantly. With puppet regions and extensions of the crown reaching as far as the flung ends of europe, for example the 30 year regime of The dynasty of the suns esia . With colonisation came differences, swapping lots of times from korean, chinese and even the japan analog occupying. What had lead to unity, lead to disaray, and as the claws of liberty knawed on the ropes that kept them infighting, east asian communities among east asian communities bled the rivers red. Some rumour that they broke down the foodchain, the fishes gills clogged with ragged blood, but that can be accepted as pure wifestales. However one thing is for sure, the first european power to ever to decolonise itself, led a extremely poor example. Within a year it fell to bitter infighting, after asian powers wished to draw a line between ethnicitys and religious borders, to reduce the power of these new offshoots potential.

However with now the empire one bad famine away from becoming a failed state, and the beginnings of persecution of their colonisers people, will asia interfere into trying to broker a deal with the emerging monster? or will they try to embargo, or worse, occupy the entire country?

Real life culture of former colonizer: I'd prefer Lionggong and Jeongmi, but am open to other colonial powers.
Population: 99,954,369
GDP (PPP) per capita: $5,380

  • Yaraban (Regional) (Yoruba)
  • Asante (Regional) (Akan)
  • Ebo (Regional) (Igbo)
  • Ijaw (Regional) (Ijo)
  • Kiwali (Regional) (Nupe)
Nation description: The Federation of Ajumose, meaning "league" in the dominant Yaraban language, is a sovereign federal presidential republic located along the central coast of the continent of Miju. It is bordered by ??? to the west, ??? to the south, ??? to the east, ??? to the northeast, and the island nation of ??? to the north. Additionally, it borders the southern edge of the Singye Sea and shares the vital Lake Nkwa with ??? and ???. The nation's citizens are serviced by two rivers. In the west, flowing out of Lake Nkwa, is the Aboa River. Host to over thirty million people, the Aboa River Basin is the homeland of the Asante people, Ajumose's second-largest ethnic group. To the east, flowing from the far-off Lake Òkè in the neighboring nation of ???, is the Odoawonodo River. Meaning "river of rivers" in Yaraban, the Odoawonodo and its corresponding river basin are host to a staggering one hundred million people. It connects with the Aboa near the city of Gonin and flows north before emptying into the Singye Sea and the Bay of Yogoa. The Odoawonodo River Delta is one of the largest in the world. A highly diverse country, Ajumose is home to over fifty recognized ethnic groups. At the moment, though, its politics and culture are dominated by the Yarabans in the center and east and the Asante in the west.

Prior to independence, present-day Ajumose was colonized by two Sinju nations. In the east, where the Yaraba dominate modern-day Ajumosan society, was the Lionggongese colony of Gingde, or the "Golden Shore". So-named because of the vast gold reserves that would ended up being mined there. In the west, where most of the Asante find their home, was the Jeongmian colony of Huchu Haean, or the "Pepper Coast". So-named because of the quantity and variety of spices that were grown along the banks of the Aboe River. Gingde gained independence on October 1, 1960 from its colonial master following a plebiscite, which had been held in 1957 in which the pro-independence movement claimed an overwhelming majority of the vote. The following year, on January 1, the provisional legislature appointed Yewande Olumide as the nation's first president.

Born in 1901, Olumide was a prominent Mijuan political theorist and revolutionary figure who gained prominence during the early 20th century as a leading figure in the Mijuan anti-colonial movement after becoming one of the first Mijuans to graduate from the prestigious University of Gongiang with degrees in political theory, religious studies, ethnic studies, biology, and sociology. He would meet his end on September 6, 1968 when he was assassinated by agents of Táwia Amankonah and his Asante National Liberation Front. Amankonah, born in 1913, had been the elected representative of the various Asante tribes to the colonial government of Huchu Haean when it was granted independence on March 6, 1957. After serving with great distinction as a captain in the Jeongmian Army during the Great Eulhae War's Miju campaigns, Amankonah attended ZZZ Military Academy in Hapcheon before returning to Huchu Haean to organize the ANLF. Throughout the 1940s and early 1950s, Amankonah increasingly came under the influence of revolutionary thinkers who advocated for violent revolution and guerilla campaigns over the slower, reform-oriented path championed by figures like Olumide.

One incident that particularly illustrated the growing divide in the Mijuan independence movement occurred in 1952 during the All-Miju Congress of Free and Independent Nations. Known as the Lotwa Affair, it dramatically split the AMCFIN into four distinct factions. On the left existed two factions: the Muzanists and the Jumaanists. Led by Chamunorwa Muzanenhamo, a Matobwe exile who had spent significant time in Ambemaribu and Hokan before the Great Eulhae War, the Muzanists sought the abolition of the state and championed a bottom-up theory of political reform. To varying degrees, they championed communalism, decentralized socialism, agrarianism, and anarchism. The Jumaanists, on the other hand, were led by Azima Jumaane, an Araswan guerilla fighter. Unlike Muzanenhamo and his followers, the Juumanists sought the establishment of a Pan-Miju socialist state that stretched from Wokajoor to Araswa and Matobe. They believed that such a state was the only way for Miju to compete with Sinju. They championed a top-down theory of political revolution that embraced vanguardism, rapid industrialization, central planning, and violent conflict. On the right of the AMCFIN were the Amankonists. Led by Táwia Amankonah, the Amankonists largely rejected the concept of multiculturalism and sought the establishment of ethnostates across Miju. In regards to how to achieve their political goals, the Amankonists, like the Jumaanists, embraced violent revolution, guerilla fighting, and terrorism. Finally, in the center, were Yewande Olumide and his Olumindists. The Olumindists sought the path of reform and democracy that embraced multiculturalism and working with their colonial masters to achieve independence peacefully and amicably, if slowly.

Following the assassination of Olumide, a new interim president, Ayokunle Babatunde, was installed by the national legislature until an emergency election could be held in February of the next year. Ultimately, though, Babatunde's time as president proved to be short-lived because on October 12, 1968, he was overthrown by a clique of young military officers led by Colonel Olufemi Abiodun, Olumide's cousin and closest military confidante. Following a failed counter-coup by Ebo officers, Abiodun would end up ruling over Ajumose for the next three decades. During this time, he embarked on a campaign of industrialization, agricultural mechanization, and military build-up. Initially ruling in the democratic mold of Olumide, he became increasingly authoritarian as his reign wore on. Most notably, though, were his numerous wars with Ajumose's neighboring countries, culminating in the brutal Ajumosan-Asante War from 1984 to 1988, which ended with the capture, torture, and public execution of Táwia Amankonah in Sunyanga, the capital of Asanteland. Ultimately, he would meet an end similar to his cousin. On March 21, 1990, while riding in a military procession to visit the crown jewel of his modernization program, the Baba Olumide International Airport, a bomb was thrown into the back of the Presidential Car. After being rushed to the Oniwosan National Hospital, Colonel Olufemi Abiodun was pronounced dead.

Following Abiodun's death, pro-democracy protests across Ajumose exploded. Known as the Omnira Revolution, the protesters sought the overthrow of the succeeding military junta (led by the Ijaw general, Adeyemi Opeyemi), the re-creation of Olumide's democratic principles, and the establishment of a multi-party democracy. Originally assisted by the few integrated Asante brigades in the military, the Omnira protesters were quickly and ferociously suppressed as Opeyemi's junta re-established control over the country. The Junta Era lasted from 1990 until 2002, when it was replaced by the dictatorship of Sangodele Oluwaremilekun, "Oluwa" for short. A former soldier who'd served during the Ajumosan-Asante War, Oluwa retired from the military shortly before Abiodun's assassination to teach at the Jaria Military Officers Academy before being appointed as the Ambassador to Mennefer in 1997 and the Ambassador to Lionggong in 2000. An avid supporter of Abiodun's dictatorship, Oluwa was determined by the junta to be the best face for the country on the international stage and was subsequently installed as the nation's fourth president. Unfortunately for Opeyemi and his fellow Junta members, Oluwa proved to be a more crafty operator than they thought him to be. By 2004, Oluwa, with the assistance of the loyal students he'd taught when he was a professor, had either arrested, exiled, or assassinated every senior general in Opeyemi's junta government and established himself as the supreme dictator of Ajumose.

For the people of Ajumose, Oluwa's reign, which would last until 2010, was a mixed blessing. On the one hand, he opened up the economy to foreign investment and trade after sanctions had been levied against it following brutal attacks against the Kiwali people during the late 1990s. As a result of the removal of the junta and flood of foreign direct investment, Ajumose's major cities experienced a boom in economic development. At the same time, the removal of sanctions provided the new government with an opportunity to create large nature preserves in order to gin up interest in tourism. In conjunction with this surface-level makeover, Oluwa even re-established certain democratic element's of Olumide's republic. He approved the nation's second constitution, re-established the national legislature, established an independent Ministry of Justice, removed the remnants of the Junta's lower-level supporters from their positions in the military, abolished the state militia system, and enacted ethnic and religious equality laws. All of these efforts significantly improved Ajumose's international image. So much so that he was awarded a medal by the International Organization for Democratic Peace and Progress. Where the mixed part of Oluwa's reign comes in is with his domestic policies. Even as he created an independent judiciary, Oluwa maintained the status and resources of the Office of State Security. Essentially operating as a secret police organization, OSS embarked on a terror campaign across rural, non-Yaraba Ajumose in an effort to root out any and all opponents to the regime. Meanwhile, in urban Ajumose, Oluwa made sure to uphold the facade of semi-democratic rule of law. As a result of this disparity in experiences, support for Ajumose during most of his reign was heavily concentrated in the Yaraba and urban areas of the country. Ironically, the Junta era proved to be more peaceful for the central government than the Oluwa era was. Revolts, although common, were quickly put down and covered up by the state media apparatus. The only one that was long-lasting involved the western Kiwali people.

As had happened to the man he admired, Oluwa's reign as dictator of Ajumose ended violently. While visiting a military base in the region of Asanteland, he and his entourage were apprehended by soldiers under the command of an Asante officer, Captain Awotwe Gyamfi. In complete secrecy, Gyamfi and his soldiers spirited Oluwa to the Presidential Palace and announced the following morning that he had been removed from power and that a new Military Council for the Restoration of Peace and Democracy (MCRPD) had been set up to guide Ajumose from military dictatorship to fully functioning democracy. While this act shocked the world and Oluwa's Yaraba supporters, in reality the coup had been a long time coming. It had been orchestrated and meticulously planned by Tejumola Ayodele, the recently-appointed Director of the OSS, and Chinaza Mazzi, the Chief of the Military General Staff. Following this announcement, Oluwa was formally arrested and charged with a number of crimes including treason and committing heinous acts against the people of Ajumose. While the trial was carried out, the members of the MCRPD resisted the impulse to establish a new military junta and embarked on a wide-ranging campaign to remove the remaining Oluwa loyalists in the bureaucracy, the military, and police forces. By the end of 2011, their task neared completion. Elections had been scheduled for the spring of 2012 and Oluwa, who had been found guilty of most of the crimes he'd been charged with, was sentenced to death. On December 31, 2011 at 11:30 pm, Sangodele Oluwaremilekun, was marched out of his cell at Sokotsha Military Prison to the prison courtyard. While he was allowed a final meal and some cigarettes, his request for a parting message was denied by the prison commandant. In accordance with ancient Yaraban customs, his execution was carried out five minutes before the beginning of the new year. Testimony by some of the executioners indicated that Oluwa did not die immediately and that he managed to cling on to life past the beginning of the new year. Official statements by the military have always maintained that he died within seconds of the execution order being carried out.

On November 25, 2012, Ajumose carried out its first successful democratic elections since Yewande Olumide won re-election in 1967. At the time, all of the candidates were required to run as independents until a new democratic government could establish rules for the formation and seating of political parties. Ten candidates ended up qualifying for the election with the winner ultimately being Akuchi Chimaijem, a well-known Ebo political theorist and democracy activist who had been exiled by the Junta for leading a protest during the Omnira Revolution. Chimaijem's primary goal during his presidency has been stabilizing Ajumose and regaining the trust of foreign leaders and governments by convincing them that Chimaijem would not become another Oluwa or Abiodun and that Ajumose was a safe place to invest and build factories in. Chimaijem was re-elected to a second term in the 2018 presidential election.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Malli / Malli'u
Real life culture influence: Samoan, Hawaiian, Polynesian Conculture
Real life culture of former colonizer: Jeongmian (Korean)
Population: 2.3 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: $17,520
GDP (nominal) per capita: $14,532
Military manpower (active/reserve): 15,000 active / 30,000 reserve
Language(s): Samoan (primarily)
Nation description:

Malli'u is a small island in the Western Ocean; its 'settlement' recounted in Mallinese Epics as being carried out by several noble clans from modern day Thrumbo. Malli'u would be alluded to in local material culture of other thalassocratic nations within the Western and Southern seas. The regional clans of the Mallinese islands were purportedly first united in 900 ACE, under the leadership of the Foma’i clan from the north-eastern region of the islands. Though unified to some degree, the organization of the Mallinese people was far different from the Sinjuese understanding of a state-like institution. Though a form of 'monarchy' emerged, with the head of the Foma'i clan serving as the de-facto chieftain of the Mallinese people, local participatory 'tribal' democracy was still by in large the main mechanism for day-to-day decision making.

Early records from the 12th century indicate Mallinese merchants and later self-styled envoys traveled to regions as far west as Matobo and as far east as Kealakekua. In Matobese records, Malli'u was generally styled as 'the Kingdom of Malliu' - which would become the common style to which the islands were referred in international discourse. First contact with Sinjuese powers would occur around the late 1600s, prior to the Jeongmian discovery of Namju. Jeongmian, Fusenese, and Tosanese merchants and whalers often stopped in Malli'u, making it a common waypoint on most Sinjuese maps of the Western Ocean.

A strong Jeongmian presence on the island emerged following interest in the settlement and colonization of Namju. Jeongmian settlers and merchants had long been present on the island prior, but the 1700s would see the establishment of Jeongmian commercial and military institutions under the Treaty of Sale’imoa. Relations between the Mallinese people and Jeongmian were described as 'amicable' by Malietoa Tupa'i in 1760, however later waves of settlement and immigration would see the establishment of exploitative sugar and tobacco plantations.

The Taula Movement emerged in the late 1800s in response to erosion of traditional Mallinese culture and the establishment of Jeongmian institutions in its place, seeking to protect traditional institutions of the island. Seeking greater self-representation but fearing military response, Malietoa Fa’aso’otauloa met with Namjuan President An Gung-muk and signed the Treaty of Hwaseong in 1812. The Treaty granted Malli'u a place as a soverign member of the Namjuan Confederation, however given its distance from metropolitan Namju it was afforded a special protectorate status -- allowing some degree of regional autonomy.

Malli'u existed under the protection of the Namjuan Confederal government until the 1989 Mallinese Referendum, wherein 58% of the population voted for independence from the Confederation. The Constitution of Malli'u was drafted the same year, laying out a hybrid of Sinjuese governmental organization and traditional regional, participatory democracy. The island is currently organized as a directorial republic, with four Malietoa serving as the head of government. From this directorial council the O le Ao o le Malo is elected, who serves as a ceremonial representative of the Mallinese Isles abroad.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Bhatsara (ભટસરા / भात्सरा / 蓮岛 ) ( 蓮岛, Lendau / Lyeondau - archaic name used in Sinju)
Real life culture influence: Western India / Gujarati
Real life culture of former colonizer: Jeongmian / Meisaani (Likely more indirect colonial relationship?)
Population: 91.4 million
GDP (PPP) per capita: 19,000
GDP (nominal) per capita: 17,000
Military manpower (active/reserve): 250,000 / 400,000
Language(s): Gujarati, Marathi, Sindhi
Nation description:

'Bhatsara' (believed to be derived from the Sanskrit words Bhati (भा, Illuminated, shining) and Sara (सार, origination)) is a confederal state located in western Tagol, considered a regional power with a well-educated work force and a growing influence on global politics through economic and cultural soft power projection.

Historically, Bhatsara existed as less of a unified state and more a confederal system of princely states, city-states, and chiefdoms bound to a king of kings known as the Maharaja. Power was generally concentrated on concentric urban centers which diffused military and economic power outwards, with claims enforced by the court of the Maharaja. The Maharaja was formally elected by an assembly of scholars from the descendants of the previous Maharaja, making the system an electoral monarchy. While in theory the system existed to enforce a balance of power among the rivaling states of the region, regional conflict still persisted despite the mediating power of the Maharaja's court.

Bhatsara historically expanded to encompass a sizeable degree of Tagol; though certain states would break off and openly rebel against the system throughout its history. Arriving colonial powers in the region would attempt to leverage regional conflict to gain a foothold to the relatively strategic warm-water ports of the region. Industrialization and modernization was relatively slow, with reforms favoring nationalization and centralization receiving significant pushback from traditional institutions of society. Bhatsaran society experienced a schism in the wake of modernization in the late 19th century; with the emergence of educated pro-Sinju echelon of society known as the Śikṣaṇa (શિક્ષણ).

The Bhatsaran Revolution and subsequent Civil War erupted around the end of the 19th century; in response to the meddling of Sinju colonial powers as well as emergent ideas of Sinju-centric democracy and political organization. Conflict lasted in the region for well over a decade; eventually seeing the triumph of the Ghaṇādhvaja (lit. 'many banners') movement and the establishment of the Bhatsaran Republic in 1908.

The newly founded Bhatsaran Republic sought to find allies in the growing powers in the southern hemisphere; particularly Namju and Matobo. Industrialization and modernization were a gradual process, but later spurred by Bhatsara's participation in the Eulhae War on the side of the allies. Since the war, Bhatsara is recognized as a growing economic power -- with periodic downturns due to internal struggles and a history of poor foreign policy decision which have at times jeopardized its trade relations with certain world powers.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: The Commonwealth of Revolutionary Shires (Lanstria)
Real life culture influence: Great Britain minus the actual functional parts (i.e. Scotland)
Real life culture of former colonizer: Jeongmi or Kinshu
Population: 27,003,423
GDP (PPP) per capita: $2102
GDP (nominal) per capita: $947
Military manpower (active/reserve): 330,329 pro-Mansing fighters | 270,932 Christine Order fighters | 68,433 ethnic minority militias
Language(s): English (Lanstrian), maybe some Teiydhwye (Welsh) and probably some Audenners (former Frankish ruling class)
Nation description: Historically, the Kingdom of Lanstria was a normal awesome Anglo-Saxon land of green pastures, rolling hills, and meat pies. However, everything changed when a bunch of barbarians from the former Rashnnan empire attacked and forced everybody to talk funny - the Audenners. The Audenners ruled Lanstria in a quasi apartheid manner, with the Audenners insulating themselves as a knightly aristocracy and keeping the kingdom's social and technological level repressed - even by West Yojuan standards - in a fit to maintain their feudal society. Then some foreign people arrived and murdered a lot of the Audenners, and took over themselves, building strange contraptions that the natives had never seen before. However, some Lanstrians - and Audenners - ended up going to college in Sinju, and decided that they themselves wanted their own nation. They probably fight some highly bloodly war, establishing a revolutionary socialist state in West Yoju; however, its emphasis on nationalism made it a pariah, even within the socialist community, and eventually its only trading partner was Rashnna. Decades of embargos, catastrophic wars against Bakusai, and the accidental demolition of the nation's only dam (which supplied 42% of all electric power) resulted in socio-economic tensions flaring as the revolutionary vanguard - disproportionately Audenner - continued to live relatively lavishly. Now, the entire country is kind of a shit-show and bombs are flying p much everywhere.
