Uh no, there are still plenty of homophobes in America bro. Growing up, homophobia was very prevalent in my community toward gay men, and being openly gay would open you up to harassment at best and physical violence at worst.

Right, but my problem with that is that 1. as you said, the Lutheran Bible is not necessarily correct and 2. I've been told the Hebrew uses the word zakar which means man and not boy

It's contradictory depending on what version you look at. For example the Elberfelder Bible also includes the word "Knabenschänder", even though it is a German translation of the Darby Bible, which actually says this instead:

[...] nor who abuse themselves with men

It may be an incorrect conflation of one with the other, which has led to some carelessness on the part of the original translator.

I agree with you in absolute, but you've consider the context. When so many people suffer from bullying, rejection, discrimination, ... for being gay, claiming "I'm proud to be gay" is a defiance against that hostility. It doesn't mean they consider themselves superior, but that not only they reject the oppression, but they also don't want to be just tolerated in a quiet corner, but they want to be fully accepted as they are. That's the true meaning of it.

In countries like Uganda and Nigeria you can be murdered for being gay. I watched a documentary about it some time ago. It was scary and made me realize how lucky I am.

Oh right, cause it's so trendy to choose to belong to a societal group that's actively oppressed in parts of the world, or are treated as second class citizens. Do you honestly believe that people want to belong to a group that is discriminated against? Ask yourself that question and think about it for a moment. Because I can tell you, if I could, I would not have chosen to be gay (LGBTQ). Yet I simply don't have a choice, it was simply how I was born. So, it would be really, really helpful to live a happy and normal life, if people didn't make assumptions like you did with your question.

Trans people yes but the polling is pretty clear that opposition to LGB people has largely dissipated to a minority viewpoint, it has no real traction anymore.

Though same sex marriage seems more an effect than a cause, in my own case the issue marked my first realization that a significant number of LGBT people do actually form long term partnerships. I thought of that as quite rare, because the club scene seemed to me like the only scene.

And it's not like I never met gay people before that. I even knew couples. I just assumed they were the exception and the LGBT people I hadn't met yet, were all into one-night stands.

I think the gay community rather marketed itself that way, as party animals who didn't need that 'settling down' nonsense, or by doing it so obviously allowed themselves to be stereotyped that way.
