This decision has positives but also has ramifications as it will certainly alienate the religious establishment. This decision should lie with the Egyptian people, not with Mr.Sisi or his military autocracy.

Sisi is a snake only looking out for himself. It's a shame, really, that this move will be celebrated by people without them knowing the full context.

Even with the full context its a positive.

He is not taking it out of religion classes. Just things like math, reading, and writing.

I mean agreed, he is a typical middle eastern dictator, doing it for typical middle eastern dictator type reasons, but in spite of this sometimes we get lucky and the end result is a positive.

I would assume something like this for American Bible schools.

Reading and essay writing would be about Islamic scriptures and parables. Everything can be taught from a perspective

Yeah, it's overkill. Like or not, major religious texts still had a huge impact on history and culture. You can't talk about post-Byzantine Egypt without talking about Islam. There's a difference between telling kids "these religious texts are right and you should follow them" and "these religious texts had this impact on our history and culture."
NOTE: This nation's government style, policies, and opinions in roleplay or forum 7 does not represent my true beliefs. It is purely for the enjoyment of the game.

Just to quote some, Galileo's The Essayer, Euclid's Elements of Geometry, Al-Kwarizmi's Al-Jabr are VASTLY more important than any religious text ever.
By the way, Al-Kwarizmi wrote in Arabic, so, that makes it a more serious contender for the title of "most important text in Arabic".

By the way, now I'm picturing Al-Sisi as Dat Soldier chanting "Remove Quran".

Guess horseshoe theory is right. Cause that's not any different from what a Waffen-SS soldier thinks before they'd shoot a Jewish child into a mass grave.

To be fair, if you self identified as "a member of the group known as "Waffen-SS soldiers" one could make some assumptions. Same as e.g. with being a member of the KKK.

I think the keyword there is "removed in schools except Islamic schools." That would make the public schools more secular while allowing religious schools to retain their ideals in their respective classrooms. I see no problem with that, that is the standard in much of the world.

If the Qu'ran is only being referenced in a historical, purely non-dogmatic way, then there's no reason to remove that but if they're removing instants of the Qu'ran as dogma, then I see no issue with that.

Salus, you kind of OOF'd yourself here.

Normally I'm all for sticking it to anti-theists but you're acting like someone being part of an anti-Catholic and white supremacist hate group and domestic terrorist organization like the KKK or a state-sanctioned terrorist organization with a direct link to war crimes, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and general crimes against humanity like the Waffen-SS can't in and of itself be used to judge that person.

Which is fucking ridiculous. I can and will judge anyone belonging to these two groups for belonging to said groups. They made the conscious choice to join them and adopt their hateful spiel and unrestrained violence.

Are you for summarily executing members of the KKK and SS, then? Assuming that every individual in the group are directly responsible for the worst things their group does?
