Greetings, visitor! Welcome to the Capybara Ambassador Scheme!
We are an animal rescue charity sponsored by The Countesian Fish, Wildlife & Park Service along with thousands of private donors.
If you came to this website asking "What on this good green earth is a capybara?!" then let us show you.
The Capybara, also known as Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris is a giant cavy rodent native to many parts of the world, but is primarily found in the densely forested areas of Countesia, chiefly near bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, swamps, ponds, and marshes. These gentle herbivores enjoy to graze on a diet of mostly grasses and aquatic plants, but enjoy the occassional fruit and even tree bark! It is also the largest rodent in the world and a close relative to their much smaller lookalike, the Guinea Pig. They are superb swimmers and can even hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes! Capybaras are incredibly social animals, living in groups of up to 10-20 individuals however some can be found living alone. Capybaras are somewhat recognizable for the fact that they often adopt offspring from completely different species to their own. It is not unheard of for Capybaras to adopt the young of various species of birds and other smaller rodents. This trait has seen the capybara awarded the official title of "Friendliest Animal to Ever Exist" by the Countesian Monarch Queen Ariadne The First, the only animal in Countesia to recieve a royal title before the monarchy was abolished.
Our mission
Hundreds of injured Capybaras every year are unable to be released back into the wild for a number of reasons, mainly due to road traffic collisions and illegal trapping. However, with lots of love and care this is not the end for many of these animals. With a naturally friendly and desposition, wild Capybaras thrive in captivity and as pets. What sets our organisation apart from dozens of similar, and equally as noble organisations is that we exclusively rehome to wildlife refuges abroad. We hope to to spread the universal and unconditional love that the Capybara brings to the lives of many to the rest of the world in what we like to call Ambassador Animals!
After reading this you must now ask yourself, is your Zoo and/or sanctuary missing that one animal that makes people go "WOW!"? then consider adopting a Capybara. Want an animal that thrives on phsysical interation with your guests? Definitely consider adopting a Capybara.
Please note the Capybara Ambassador Scheme does not adopt to private individuals or collections. the Capybara Ambassador Scheme only accept offers from registered Zoological organisations.
