I already said that, although we disagree on whether it is most or just some. All the farmers I have met were living very very comfortably. None had a supercar but they all had toys. Brand new pickups, horses, 4 wheelers, high end rifles, and tools the rest of us could only dream of having in a garage. Granted they work a lot but these days its common for everyone.

You have to remember that a farmer can write most of those "toys" off as legitimate business expenses.

And most I’ve met are a few bad harvests away from losing all of their shit.

And what you described sounds upper middle class life style, not that of a millionaire.

"being a few bad harvests away from losing all their shit" has literally been the universal human condition since the dawn of agriculture

and maybe if you were raised in a household that calls itself upper middle class but is actually closer to the millionaire end of things, it sounds like that? That's not a slam; it's pretty easy to just get into a bubble where you don't have actual hard numbers and make assumptions based off the euphemisms and evasion people use to conceal such things (happens to adults who spend lots of time in such circles too, not just kids who are raised in them)

anyways, anprim shit remains weird, and modern agriculture is very efficient and I like not starving (even though the result is that US farmers are more bourgeois than peasant at this point and we're deprived of a revolutionary class... but it's just an unqualified good that people don't have to live as subsistence farmers here anymore)

I to live on a farm.

It sucks.

I wanna go back to living in an apartment building.

But me parents want to have a farm. They can't do it on their own so I gotta be a good boi and support them regardless of the fact that I am ready to jump off the nearest cliff.

Yah. And a farmer can lose everything, because most of their wealth isn’t going to be in cash.

Okay I don’t know where the fuck you come from, but my upbringing was nowhere near upper middle class. However you don’t need to be a millionaire in order to afford nice things, especially when they are otherwise needed tools for your occupation, like farming.

But please, do tell me more about my upbringing. You appear to know more about it than even I do.

Lol
Not all farmers are the same. But even then not even Marx expected the revolution to arise from the agricultural workers as much as he did the industrial ones.
Anyway I think we’ve seen where that road leads plenty enough times already.

I don't know what you're expecting me to say in response to this but pretend I've said it in this sentence

...I didn't tell you anything about your upbringing? I mean you can re-read it as well as I can-- I was curious, so I asked you a question (and made some effort to do it gently, since I don't know you), because I wanted to know if you were an example of something I've seen before. You could've just not answered or said "I wasn't" without all the f-bombs and defensiveness.

yes, I think I gathered that much at least
But even then not even Marx expected the revolution to arise from the agricultural workers as much as he did the industrial ones.

But Marx failed to consider that history would prove him wrong on the battlefield (in China, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, Ethiopia, etc.)! :p I think history's pretty thoroughly vindicated Mao on that one, as much as I hate to give the Maoists credit for anything. Obviously it's not the only way it can happen and things tend to work better when they both get together, but the problem here is not that I've literally never read Marx and lack an extremely basic grasp of the terminology.

I mean like, it feeds the world and all, so obviously very important. I also have a small hydroponic and catfish farm, and it does sustain us with a continuous supply of produce during harvest times.

Though funnily enough, farming catfish is also meme-fied for being an alternative career choice of those who failed college entrance exams. So considering my dad built the hydro farm a year before my college exams... maybe it's more than just his new-found hobby. (Thankfully it stays as a hobby, though).

Agriculture in general though, I'm not sure. Around 40% of those who lives in or below the poverty line in my country are farmers, more specifically farm laborers, who work on large plantations owned by oligarchs.

My hope one day is to have enough money to leave society and go subsistence farm on my own off in the middle of nowhere. I dont think it would be easy but I'm tired of dealing with bullshit, so farming sounds kinda cool.

Farms are great, I have plenty out where I live, to be honest I find it funny how naive some people are about how important growing food actually is, it feels like some people think food just teleports into the supermarket.

Useful and good, really it's good for people to grow things, even if it's just a tiny pot on their cramped apartment balcony.

Farming is cool but hard and it's very hard to reach full self subsistence unless you go vegan or have enough land for all you want.

I think rooftop gardens would be a good way to improve access to fresh food, sustainable living and get inner-city kids in touch with where their food comes from.

But then, I also think that scrap land that's going to waste, especially if it's becoming a public nuisance -- i.e. with vandalism, etc -- should be turned over to small-scale farmers in initiatives like this.

So, you could say I have a positive opinion of agriculture. Specifically, lower-intensity farming without use of excess chemicals or hormones.

Farms for produce are fine.

Farms for animals are not. We're not living in 1984 anymore.

Animal husbandry has a huge environmental impact that we should drastically reduce.

I mean to be fair animal farming is pretty inefficient and a producer of pollution, so I'm not against getting rid of some of the extremely bad farms. However, my opinion is still farm good.
