Sometimes your opinions can be confusing Sun.

Thinking about it, one could also interpret Sun's statement as "I don't like doing farm work", which doesn't necessarily suggest an opposition against the concept of agriculture itself. But they should probably explain that themselves.

Given their comments on rural areas in the American politics thread the issue with agriculture is more likely.

Oh, okay, I wasn't aware of that.

Then, the million dollar question would now still be what the alternatives are ...

hydroponics, vertical farms, rooftop farms. Of course, these have issues, the big one being a very big reliance on complex technology and electricity, limited space, and in Northern areas, issues with climate and snow for the rooftop.

It's a necessity for farms to exist, without them we'd have a lot less food.

All for it. Both for getting fresh fruit and vegetables to the people in a city to the educational purpose of teaching where our food comes from.

Farms are over-rated. I get my food from the store. :p

Seriously, without farming the North American continent would only give subsistence for maybe 5 to 7 million people. I don't know the statistics for the other continents but it is probably similar.

Good farming practices are important to any civilization.

I like food and I like people. Having to live like a cave-man gathering roots, nuts, and berries, and having to kill angry food with a pointy stone on the end of a stick every day for myself would suck.

Good farmers are essential. The work hard and get very little recognition. I have a lot of respect for farmers everywhere.

Some are known to work (hydroponics and rooftop gardens) others are currently being tested for economic feasibility (vertical farming). They just have issues, like traditional farming has issues. Traditional farming after all requires a great deal of fertilizer and space, and is also limited by climate and arability. Hydroponics and vertical farming are not limited in the same way due to them going up rather then out and since they are don indoors and do not use soil they do not face the same needs. Rooftop gardens are great, but face the issues of limited space for the number of people and limitation due to climate (a rooftop garden in New York will have to deal with longer winters). The rooftop garden also has a competitor in terms of solar panels.

I think it's a wonderful idea, it would improve the sense of community in these places and make food prices cheaper.

It does run into the issue of people putting solar farms up there instead.

I love farms, especially since we farm the entire French league and are called the French farmers!
Proud Qatari team. Wants to win a CL. QSI forever! (Posts usually in-character, are satirical, often revolving around Qatari propaganda because Qatar is the best!)
Qatar, oil, cheating, corruption, farming, winning Ligue 1 every year, Neymar, Mbappe (for signing that huge contract), Messi, skirting FFP, huge transfers, huge wages, big-name players
Lille, not winning a CL, not winning Ligue 1 every year, bottling CL games, Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, UEFA refs, renewable energy, FFP regulations, every other French team who is not like us

My mother grew up on a small dairy farm that didn't do too well and so she and her family moved to the city.

I do like being able to eat, and given I'm not really willing to get my hands dirty, well, I'm thankful that they exist.

Good idea to make use of otherwise unused space and could possibly help alleviate food deserts.

I don’t think urban farming will ever get to the point that it replaces more traditional farms.
