CHISTOVODIAN CN DELEGATE DENOUNCES CONDEMNATION.
The Chistovodian Ambassador to the Community of Nations, Zoya Ahuja, responded to the proposal of a condemnation as a "targeted attack" that "did not include a single shred of credible evidence".

As countries declare their intentions to support the jointly proposed condemnation of Chistovodia at the Community of Nations -- IA Res. 86.76 --, the Workers' State gears up its defence against the allegations that it broke international law.

The joint resolution was tabled to the International Assembly by the nations of Aucuria, Nuvania and Satucin: condemning the Chistovodian state for its 'deployed naval vessels and additional aircraft' that were deployed to Maracao following the eruption of the Pico de Sangue volcano. Marco Niemann, the Nuvanian permanent representative, argued that the "claim of innocent passage used as justification for the deployment of vessels from the Chistovodian Navy was a violation of international law".

Chistovodia's own Zoya Ahuja denied these claims, arguing that the vote to condemn is a "purely political statement" and that "all evidence has been ignored." Taking to the Community of Nations today, Ahuja spent over an hour defending the Workers' State. She argued that "Aucuria and Nuvania have ignored the arguments of legal experts. Legal experts in Caldia, in Montecara, in Chistovodia and even in Satucin have stressed that the grounds on which Satucin's argument is made is incredibly flimsy. We have denied the allegations of their argument; the Law of the Sea was never broken. There is no ground to condemn Chistovodia on the basis we broke maritime law."

"To condemn Chistovodia on the grounds of the intent of its actions outside of Satucin's territorial waters is nonsensical. Satucin's control of the straits will become unquestioned because the precedent that will be set is that Satucin has the authority to deny all passage on a basis of intent outside of its waters."

"This is a condemnation that will allow those in the global north to bully their way through when and where international treaties are drawn. And to that we say 'no'."

"Ultimately, Aucuria and Nuvania have played to Allaire's tune and are wasting precious time and money here at the International Assembly in an attempt to score political points across the Asterias."

She then went after the idea that the vote was an orchestrated "litmus test" by 'certain political actors', and a way to "present Chistovodia as a domestic enemy for up and coming political elections in Estmere and Satucin."

Ahuja then went on to display video footage recorded by the Zorasani navy when three Estmerish vessels were filmed undergoing an incursion into Zorasani waters. As this was displayed, pausing the video for the community representatives to see, she scolded individuals in the body for "not condemning an illegal breaching of international law" but were "seriously considering an evidence-less condemnation based purely on 'political motivations'." She turned to the delegates of Coius in particular, and argued that "you are expected to play by the rules of the game they created in this International System, whilst they flip the board if you inquire to do the same thing as them."

"For shame," she added as remarks came to a close. "For shame for wasting this body's time with a poorly executed piece of legalese."

FIRE AND BRIMSTONE: A Concise Recap of the Party Chair Debates

Tensions ran high in Hammarvik last night, and it wasn't the local hockey scene crying over yet another losing season, not this time. The debate, the last this election season, was marred by constant interruption and grandstanding, with the moderator constantly forced to intervene. Topics were varied, ranging from the Arucian, climate change, healthcare and more. Here are some of the highlights, summarized in the order they were brought up.

▶One of the first things that was remarked by the party chairs was the lack of two previously expected individuals - that of Liberal Will’s Matteo Nyholm and Korsa’s Eric Claesson. The duo had been threatening doing so in protest over the crisis in the Arucian and the government’s aggressive stance on maintaining a presence at both Knuten and Thorebourne NBs, one that drew a wagging eyebrow from Enoch “Eno” Ahaloke, the Working People’s Party (AFP) chairman, and the official leader of the opposition. “To me, this seems rather pointless. If you stand in opposition to the official government response, while also being in coalition, you should either voice that on stage or break from the coalition. To me this seems to be a vain attempt by the party to retain their dwindling Left support.” Tyra Brahe was aloof about the impromptu boycott, joking “It is such a shame, they messed up the seating arrangement and everything. Now I have to sit next to Ivar,” drawing a bit of a laugh from the audience and Forbund leader Ivar Eksköld, who, when asked, stated “The Liberals and their satellite party are cowards, plain and simple. Their refusal to oppose international councilism tarnishes their supposed reputation as the pragmatic party.”

▶The first topic then, was the rapidly devolving situation in the Arucian. Brahe’s government, who just hours before the debate had voted to condemn Chistovodia’s actions, was questioned on accusations of hypocrisy, as the same coalition voted against condemning Estmere not long ago. Brahe defended herself by stating “I disagreed with Prime Minister Rehn on the topic, to be fair. I was part of the only section of the government to oppose the motion, but we were ignored. I have nothing but respect for PM Rehn, but it was his call, and I disagreed with it then.” Eno, who has been before silent on the issue, challenged the PM. “The laws of the sea are crumbling now, thanks to bad actors who take the refusal to condemn Estmere as carte blanche to practice their own brands of imperialism, be it Chistovodia or Estmere. It was a bad call then, and Brahe should have done a better job of voicing that concern if she so felt that way at the time. I suppose we have no way of knowing how you really felt about it, unless you’re willing to provide proof.” This sparked a verbal sparring match between the NP and AFP chairs, only abated by moderator interruption. Eksköld at this point codified a pattern of railing against councilism and its “enablers” calling former PM Rehn an “internationalist and enabler of the downfall of Eldmark.” When asked about Zorasan’s President Isfandair’s comments that the world order is fraying, Eksköld reportedly muttered “Good” under his breath. Eno Ahaloke discussed the need for a “long-needed detente” in the Arucian Sea, citing Thorebourne as an example of failed diplomacy. “If Maracao and Chistovodia want Thorebourne to be closed, I think it would be important to ask what they would be willing to do in return for such things. However, I do not see it as out of the question, if the end goal is peace in the Arucian once again.” On the topic of Knuten, he wavered. “Knuten has been a military installation since the dawn of the country, fighting pirates and slavers. I would not consider it an important piece in the puzzle here.” He faced an array of criticism, with Brahe stating that Eldmark must “stay strong in the face of diplomatic pressure from foreign interlopers.”

▶Brahe faced criticism over the official government response to the eruption that prompted the most recent Chistovodian controversy, with both sides of the opposition claiming it was insufficient and rife with corruption, with Ahaloke condemning the government. “People died waiting on treatment for ash inhalation, only for their neighbors to die of starvation waiting on a check that never came or, if they got it, wasn’t enough. And where did that money end up? To the military, of course!” Eksköld started a shouting match between he and Ahaloke by blaming the lost money on refugees. “They (the refugees) should have gone to Chistovodia since they like councilism so much. Their regime failed to protect them from starvation before. Now they ask Eldmarsk people to “open wide their hearts” for money made by Eldmarsk labour, threatening Eldmarsk lives, spitting on Eldmarsk values.” Eno and Felix Ishizaki fired back, calling the statement “blatantly inconsiderate and vile.” The comment was noticeably not rebutted by Tyra Brahe.

▶Climate change came into play afterwards, with Eno claiming that “we will face destruction as a country, as a planet, if we continue down our path.” He later unveiled a climate plan that would see investment in green energy increase dramatically in the next 10 years, while investment in fossil fuels would slowly dwindle, along with a hefty tax on carbon emissions for “the top offenders,” a plan that received critical support from World Coalition’s party chair Felix Ishizaki, saying it was “a good start.” Brahe turned her nose at the plan, citing the economic consequences. “Our economy just took a hit from a volcano, do you think we would survive such a radical shift? The combined job loss would wreck this country.” Eno stated that jobs would be created in new energy fields, as well as the re-implementation of a jobs guarantee, infrastructure revitalization, and an increase in welfare benefits, reforms not seen since its dismantling in 1979 . Brahe just laughed.

▶Eno caused another debate by mentioning what he called the “shoddy” state of healthcare in Eldmark, attacking the coalition government on the practice of steadily tightening requirements to enroll in the government-provided public option Eldhälsa, citing the necessity to “move on with the initial plan as codified in the law to roll out universal healthcare to all Eldmarsk people. Your ability to live shouldn’t depend on your ability to pay.” This drew applause from the otherwise rather still audience, but widespread concern from the panel of party chairs. “Eldhälsa is where it is for a reason. We should not create a system that rewards laziness and bottlenecks everything. It inevitably will end in the death of people behind lines.” Brahe said. “But there already are lines, privately especially. There’s a direct correlation between the drawdown of funding and the increase in wait time and the decrease in quality of service. But the lines in private healthcare shows that money alone won’t fix it. We have to renationalize healthcare for the sake of these people you claim to care about!” Felix Ishizaki and the previously quiet Adsila Gola agreed with the statement, with the latter adding the caveat of “if tribal authorities would be able to handle their sectors of healthcare as usual, I would support it.” “Absolutely,” Ahaloke replied. “We will honor the Awahali Accords, unlike one in this chamber.”

▶The side comment prompted another topic, this time on Forbund chair Ivar Eksköld’s platform to renegotiate or outright dismantle the Awahali Accords, the agreement between the Odavli people and the Eldmarsk nation to allow for greater autonomy in Odavlistaden and in other areas deemed “native interest zones.” Ivar defended the position, stating “Eldmark is one nation. Any attempt to divide it into little zones here and there that doesn’t directly recognize the authority of the Riksdag is in effect allowing special treatment at best, insurrection at worst,” to outright condemnation by all chairs, even Brahe, who claimed Ivar’s comments “inconsiderate,” while Ahaloke went further, claiming the comments “an admission of ignorance to history.”

▶Of the debate, there was an imbalance of microphone time towards the NP and AFP, with the NP and AFP taking up 72% of the speaking time, with Forbund making up most of the remainder, drawing controversy towards the debate staff and the moderation team for ignoring VK, Gahodi and Korsa. Notably not among the invites was the EDAI leader Joahchim Okbrand, who in response set up a protest outside the convention hall.

The Prime Minister today confirmed in the House of Representatives that Satavia would support the CN resolution aimed at condemning Chistovodia. The Prime Minister was answering questions from MPs when the PM confirmed that Satavia would be voting in support of the CN resolution condemning Chistovodia regarding their breaking of the CN law of the Sea.

The announcement was as expected; Satavia were one of the first states to condemn Chistovodia however did not take part in the drafting of the original proposal. The Prime Minister also faced questions regarding the sale of Gapolanese Destroyers to Chistovodia, which he gave incoherent answers to.

Mr Speaker, I can confirm in response to the Honourable Gentlemen's question that I will be instructing our Permanent Representative at the CN in Kesselbourg to vote for the motion that will be condemning Chistovodia for it's frankly reckless actions in the Arucian that are only disturbing the fragile peace.

There are those who don't have faith in the CN and in particular this resolution, but I think it's very clear that a precedent needs to be set that isn't the current one. Chistovodia needs to be punished and those that vote against it are only fuelling Chistovodia's ego.

Why Resolution 86.76 Deserved To Fail

OPINION: Before you all go out and accuse me of having communist sympathies and form a baying mob outside my apartment building, I, Samuel Hendrik Nicolaas Hofmeyr, do not approve of or support of the Chistovodian regime or it's unnecessary provocations in the West Arucian Sea.

Disclaimer aside, while it is an obvious concern for regional economy, the fact of the matter is that the resolution recently voted on at the International Assembly of the Community of Nations deserved to fail. It would have upended the proverbial apple cart and had massive implications for international trade, but the fact that if it was to pass, it would have represented the complete disregard for one of the fundamentals of judgement in liberal Asterian societies: innocent until proven guilty.

It is that fundamental principle that many of those states and governments, blinded by mindless idealistic ideas of morality and the sense of good and evil, opted to vote in favour of a resolution that was fundamentally flawed and had clear political motivations behind it. In doing so, they voted in favour of assuming guilt on the part of the Chistovodians, to presume that they are guilty by virtue of being an illiberal, undemocratic regime. In doing so, they exposed themselves as hypocrites, of accusing a government of having violated laws without the provision of evidence to prove culpability, much in the same way Misto Myru silences critics and perceived enemies of the regime with bogus charges. In doing so, they have become those whom they seek to condemn and to isolate.

We should be thankful that what has transpired is a failure of the establishment of a hypocratic international order in which regimes diametrically opposed to those of our own are held to different standards and expectations, while we too engage in much the same acts while grandstanding for our own public support. The defeat of Resolution 86.76 is a celebration of realpolitik and common sense above ideological fellation among liberal governments.

What would have transpired had it come to pass, would have completely destroyed the fragile state international maritime law has found itself in over the last two years. Previous provocations by the Chistovodian regime in the Kosene Sea, and the clash between Estmerish and Zorasani naval vessels in the Mazdan Sea both saw the liberal interpretations of what each of those respective states believed the laws of the sea to state, and reinforced the political and ideological lines along which any strong international condemnations fell. Chistovodia got away with it once, through a diplomatic solution to the crisis. Estmere simply exerted its political influence of the Euclean Community, bringing down a wave of votes against a Zorasani resolution, one in which Zorasan had legitimate reasons to be angry.

Nuvania, of course, voted in line with what it believed to be consistent with international law and for the preservation of extant maritime law enforcement at an international diplomatic level.

But what it had done here, was to believe without question, and indeed aid in, the Satucine government's geopolitical posturing against its principal ideological adversary, and in doing so, helped draft a resolution that would have rendered the concept of innocent passage null and void, inevitably leading to a repeat of the Kosene Sea crisis.

In the current iteration of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, passage of vessels within the territorial waters of a coastal state is "innocent so long as it is not prejudicial to the peace, good order or security of the coastal State." Understandably there are certain restrictions that allow vessels to pass throug the territorial waters of another state which everyone who has ratified the convention has agreed to meet and abide by. But note that the definition makes no distinction between civilian and military vessels, or indeed, any other vessels belonging to government departments or agencies. It's important to point this out, because condemning the Chistovodian government would have meant that any nation bordering a choke point could unilaterally prohibit the passage of any ship through its territorial waters.

Through fortunes of geography, there are only two real chokepoints on international shipping routes; the Arucian Strait separating the East Arucian Sea and West Arucian Sea, and the Aurean Straits between the Gulf of Assonaire and the Mazdan Sea. It means that any nation who borders these straits or, in the case of Montecara, lies directly inside them, could prohibit the passage of any vessel from any nation as they saw fit, or seize any vessel from any nation as they saw fit. What this would do, would upend the global trade network, and plunge the globe into economic chaos as nations struggled to be able to secure trade routes between themselves and trading partners. From a practical and economic perspective, the passing of this resolution would have destroyed the international maritime trade network as we know it currently.

Economic destruction aside, we must also focus on the moral quandry that comes with accusing, or indeed, condemning an illiberal state without providing any evidence themselves. The representatives from Aucuria and Nuvania could neither provide evidence of any wrongdoing by Chistovodia, and the Satucine representative, Emmanuel Létourneau, spent much of his time making a great many inferences regarding the conduct of the Chistovodian Navy during its passage through the Arucian Strait. But not once did he provide concrete evidence of their violation of innocent passage under Article 18 of the Convention of the Law of the Sea. And it's that lack of evidence that sank the resolution before it really got off the ground.

Satucine foreign policy experts had expressed doubts about the ability for Gatôn to provide the evidence necessary in order to prove to the world such violations occurred, and instead pulled a reverse Estmere; relied on its diplomatic and economic clout both within the wider Arucian and within ASTCOM itself in order to get what it wanted. To be expected, liberal Asteria Inferior stepped in line, save for the states with close political ties to another state at the centre of this current diplomatic war of words, Maracao, or governments sympathetic to that which exists in Misto Myru. I too, had expressed my doubts because of the Chistovodian government's seeming ability to extract concessions and wins out of crises it manufactures, much like a proverbial magician pulling rabbits out of a hat. This time, there isn't anything that would have even stood up in a court of law.

The fact of the matter is that without concrete evidence, neither Aucuria, Nuvania, nor Satucin had any leg to stand on in drafting a resolution to condemn Chistovodia. It is understandable, however, that they are concerned about the escalated presence of Chistovodian naval vessels and air forcr aircraft in and around Maracao, and undoubtedly contributes to a futher destablisation of the West Arucian at a time of economic and political uncertainty, especially with new and deadly anti-government protests in Sainte-Chloé and Saint Cyriaca, which are only set to get worse without some wider political and potentially military intervention from neighbouring nations or the OAN. Satucine could have even produced a resolution condemning Chistovodia for unnecessary military provocations, which would have at the very least, wasted everyone's time at the International Assembly. Instead, it lobbied effectively and we jumped happily onboard the train to potential economic oblivion.

The train never leaving the station is something we can all be grateful for.

In a move described as 'throwing down the gauntlet', the Gaullican Republic has signalled to its partners that it will not buck the trend -- and instead sees a strengthening of Caldish-Gaullican diplomacy.

Signalling a clear and decisive message to its Euclean, Coian and Asterian allies and partners, Gaullica's Foreign Minister Sylvaine Lambert has put the rumours of an abstention to rest. At a conference earlier today the meaning in her words were clear when she indicated that there was 'no evidence' of a breach in the law.

A joint resolution from Aucuria, Nuvania and Satucin was put forward to the International Assembly in the hopes of condemning the Council Communist State of Chistovodia. The charges were twofold; its role in militarising the Arucian (specifically the Western Arucian) and its breaching of international law. Whilst impulse may lead one to conclude guilt; a careful analysis has indicated that whilst its role in militarising the Arucian in unquestionable - it is not the sole actor. And there has been no substantive case to be made that sections a through l of Article 19 of the Law of the Sea was ever broken.

Harsh lines have been drawn in the international community as Gaullica finds itself almost entirely isolated from its largest allies; with Estmere, Werania, Cassier and Satucin all voting in favour of the condemnation. Instead, Gaullica finds itself amongst the ranks of its smaller EC and EC-aligned allies: Caldia, Amathia, Piraea and Slirnia to name a few.

Caldish diplomats were quick to point out an immense hypocrisy in an international system that absolved Estmere of an international law breach but seeks to punish Chistovodia for not doing so. This was referenced by the Chistovodian ambassador to the Community of Nations; who played a video recorded by Zorasan of Estmere's enroachment into the Union's territorial waters. Montecara's own arguments pertaining to the precedent it would set for nation's on a strait has been 'compelling' sources close to the Foreign Minister have indicated.

Lambert made Gaullica's position clear as she argued that there was "an immense threat to what remains of international maritime law and normality"; though she did not reference Morwall by name as her Caldish counterpart had done other than stating that "ultimately, Foreign Minister Ó Faoláin is correct." She suggested that "Chistovodia's militarisation is an ever-increasing concern that has manifested itself greatly since 2019, but that is an equal but separate issue."

"There cannot be a condemnation on the grounds of breaking international law when it wasn't broken," Lambert said. "It is deeply irresponsible that the International Assembly is being drawn into a political game of scoring points, or a game of 'he-did' and 'they-did', but at the very least these channels were orchestrated instead of unilateral action being taken."

In what has been described as an attempt to continue to court favour with Satucin, Lambert did allude to the fact that Gaullica would be willing to "look into alternatives" when it came to addressing Chistovodia's naval deployments. She mentioned specifically that Verlois, Gatôn and Nouvelle-Rayenne have been in 'close contact' in recent days.

Government deploys Water Cannons ahead of presidential inauguration as concerns for the presidents safety rises.

Novigrad - As the fourth day of nation wide protests rolls in, the government in Novigrad has authorized the use of water cannons to disperse protestors. This decision comes eleven hours before president Abramov is scheduled to be sworn in for his third presidential term. This decision has had mixed reactions from officials outside of Novigrad, with many worrying that this harsh measure will only worsen the current situation with the protestors.

Many are also concerned about the safety of president Abramov during his swearing in ceremony. The president will be under the watchful eyes of Ravnian special agents as well as the Presidential Guard throughout the ceremony. The presidential guard, an elite platoon of soldiers once tasked with protecting Ravnias monarchs, have held more of a ceremonial role over the past decades. This has concerned many within Ravnias internal security bureau, who are now calling for an increase in regular security.

President shot after Inauguration

Novigrad - It would seem that the political violence in Ravnia has finally reached a boiling point. At 9:22 P.M, after being officially sworn in for his third term as president, Pyotry Abamov was shot twice. The shooter in turn was shot by a member of the presidential guard. The current condition of the president is unknown, as he was quickly rushed to Novigrads central hospital. The Prime Minister, Joseph Bondor, who was not present at the inauguration has been briefed on the situation and is expected to be sworn in as the temporary president within the next hour.

Exactly how the shooter, identified as a 26 year old RSF radical, managed to get in a position to take shots at the president is currently unknown. However, many believe that strain on the Novigrad police force caused by the four day long protests are to blame. Many officers who would have normally been assigned to guard and patrol the inauguration crowd were forced to deploy in other areas of the city to contain protestors, who increased their activity during the inauguration.

One thing is for sure, Ravnia has suffered a great tragedy today, and it is unknown how quickly it will recover.

Negus Duri, a Talanzini from Gaullica's Haute-Gond colony in Bahia and later holder of both Yemeti and Gaullican citizenship, passed away in his sleep last night at the age of 112. Duri was the oldest historically confirmed veteran of Gaullica's colonial forces, serving in the 3rd Tirailleurs Baiéns across northern Bahia and later Rahelia during all stages of the conflict. As from 1997, Duri had moved to Gaullica from Yemet and lived the remainder of his life -- 24 years -- in a country he shared an incredibly complex, and often controversial, relationship with.

He was born in a small Talanzini village in Haute-Gond in 1909 and lived a life typical of the people of his area until 1924 when he was conscripted at the age of 15 to serve in the 3rd Tirailleurs. The 3rd were instrumental in guarding and escorting the workers of the Trans-Bahian Railway. When the Great War began in 1926, at age 17, Duri was deployed with the 3rd to fight against the Estmerish and Weranians in northern Bahia and, later, Rahelia as the 3rd were redeployed to fight against Etruria in Zorasan.

When Gaullica lost the war in 1934 and its colonial possessions were stripped, much of the obligations pertaining to the maintenance and legacy of Gaullica's colonial forces fell to the victorious powers who maintained mandates over the former empire. In what became Yemet, Werania exerted its colonial influence over the local population. Duri spent much of his time, with much of the 3rd, fighting anti-colonial wars against the Weranians.

Much of Negus Duri's views on Gaullica, ultimately, were always compared to the Weranians by him.

Despite being 85 at the outbreak of the Yemeti civil war; Negus Duri fought in the conflict. Something of a local legend to the Talanzini, he came to international attention when he inadvertently approached Gaullican Community of Nations peacekeepers. Upon finding out their origin, he saluted and declared "Vive l'empire, vive l'empereur!". Whilst the peacekeepers originally viewed this to be in jest, or as a declaration of them as imperialists, Duri clarified that he said it out of loyalty.

The highly publicised affair led to a renewed interest in Gaullica's reneging on its commitments to its Bahian, Rahelian and Coian soldiers. Duri, along with around 300 other veterans from across the continent, were quietly given citizenship by a decree of President Heaux.

In an incredibly controversial interview in 2001, Duri was asked by his interviewer:

"As a Bahian man, you have experienced imperialism first-hand from both Gaullica and Werania. How did these experiences mould you and shape you?"

"I never experienced the racism, the atrocities, the horror that I saw from the Weranians. When I was alive and Yemet was called Haute-Gond, the Gaullicans told me that I was Gaullican, and I fought with my Bahian brothers for our empire. Gaullica, to me, means peace in the land and order in the towns. Werania? The Weranian soldiers called me 'black' and other words, they burnt my villages with fire and spat on the traditions of my people."

"Excuse me -- sorry, let me clarify: you view the Gaullican period, the period of Haute-Gond as positive?"

"Life is not good and bad. And 'Haute-Gond' meant peace, order, tranquility; and I could fight in the caste of my ancestors for the empire as my people had done for generations."

The interview was largely controversial because it painted functionalist Gaullica, and Gaullican imperialism, in a positive light. Talanzini groups in Gaullica denounced the views as "a rose-tinted view of imperialism" and "not true to the truths of Gaullican views on race and ethnicities at the time". It was often said that Duri's views were also formed by the fact he was not alive to witness the horrors of the Sougoulie, which stripped his people of their warrior rights in the first place. Duri, however, remained committed to his views and beliefs.

Duri was known across veteran's agencies both in Gaullica and internationally as a 'stalwart' of the 'legacy of the conflict, its complexity and its relationship to all peoples around the globe'. A titan of the events that paid homage to the war's end in Gaullica, Duri spent much of his final years partaking in interviews and discussions with historical societies that sought his perspective on the war. Duri also took the time to visit Yemeti communities across Gaullica, aiming to impart to them a section of Talanzini history he feared that would 'be forgotten'.

Tributes to Duri from Gaullican politicians and military officials have already begun, with President Degar-Abdulrashid giving an official statement that read: "Private Negus Duri represents a fact that conflict is an enormous shade of grey, and despite the abhorrent nature of the Functionalist Regime, there were individuals within who were forced to fight in a war. And they deserve to be recognised as having undergone harsh realities of war, and ultimately, Gaullica cannot repay him nor his people for what they were subjected to. The least we could have done we did, and the citizenship he was promised was given, and his pension restored."

Ireri Thairu, the Yemeti ambassador to Gaullica, also wrote an open later that issued a thanks to private Duri for his "dauntless courage in the anti-colonial wars against Werania and his service in aiming to defend his home in both the Great War and the Yemeti Civil War."

A petition has also begun to give Negus Duri a funeral with full honours.

President remains in critical condition as army units deploy to break up protests.

Novigrad - Joseph Bondor, prime minister and now the temporary president of Ravnia, has issued his first executive order as president. Bondor has called up army reserve units to disperse the now seven day old protests raging throughout the country. This executive order has been seen as a controversial move by many politicians, both in the RSF and the NCF. The RSF in particular have been extremely vocal in there condemnation of this order, calling it "authoritarian and dictatorial". Nonetheless, reserve army unit have begun to clear out protestors from Ravnias major cities.

In other news, the condition of President Abramov has finally been confirmed. The President, at least for now, is in critical condition. He was hit twice on his left side, with one bullet going through his left shoulder, and the other one embedding itself in his liver. The second bullet wound has been causing the most trouble for the president, as the wound in his shoulder was able to be quickly treated. It is unknown how long President Abramov will remain in hospital, with the most conservative estimates putting him at a month long stay.

All in all, the president is still alive after the attempt on his life, which has given hope to many that the current unrest and instability in Ravnia will soon pass.

Resolution 86.76, which condemned Chistovodia of militarization in the West Arucian Sea as well as breaking international maritime law, fails as nations voted 32-27, with 10 abstentions, against condemnation.

Resolution 86.76, which called for condemning Chistovodia for "militarization in and of the West Arucian Sea" in addition to recognition that it had broken international law, has been resoundingly defeated within the International Assembly.

Jointly proposed to the Community of Nations by the nations of Aucuria, Nuvania and Satucin the piece of legislation faced an up-hill battle from the onset. Many experts in international law questioned the claims Satucin was posing, even if they praised the interesting way the law could be interpreted.

Zoya Ahuja, who represents Chistovodia within the International Assembly, chastised the condemnation as "petty politics" and a way that the signatory nations could "placate the electorate" in their own countries. There was some consensus among the countries that voted against the condemnation that this was a charade, ultimately showing how dangerous and imbalanced the international system can be if certain countries pull the right strings. Even this highly controversial bill received 27 votes in its favour, five less than the against. There were 10 abstentions which could easily have swayed the decision to a condemnation.

Yet the Worker's State had key arguments on its side and the rule of law prevailed. A key consensus amongst those who rejected the condemnation was that the international maritime law of the sea was never broken, something that Ahuja made reference to in regards to Estmere's own violation in 2019 that was not condemned.

Most countries that reside in important trade lanes that must remain neutral for the foundation of global shipping, trade and the planet's economy also argued that the condemnation set a
"horrendous precedent". The nations of Montecara, Emessa and Tsabara all voted against the condemnation despite the varying political situations the countries find themselves in.]

For Chistovodia, the ruling has been a victory on the international stage as a nation that the Asterias like to portray as a "pariah" has proven it still wields international clout. Yet, perhaps not as much as it might wish: Vinalia and Belmonte, who many assumed were firmly within Misto Myru's camp, formed a 1/5th of the abstentions. Furthermore, many have argued that it was the nations of Caldia and Gaullica, who both voted against condemnation, that likely swayed the necessary Euclean states into breaking from Estmere and Werania.

Regardless of this, the Presidium and General Congress have been in uplifted spirits. President Martynenko issued a statement thanking the international community for "maintaining consistency in the application of international law", even as calls are being made to review the international maritime treaty.

With the defeat of Community of Nations Resolution 88.76 by a 32 nays to 27 aye margin, with ten abstentions, President Edmondo Privitera criticised the defeat of the resolution at a press conference at the Red House.

"The defeat of Resolution 88.76 means that Maracao and Chistovodia can continue to bully, to colonize, to dominate the Arucian Sea," Privitera declared. "Despite strong evidence from Aucuria, Satucin, and Nuvania of the illegality of Chistovodia's actions, the communists have not only brought their allies to vote all to let Chistovodia off the hook, they bribed the Caldish and Gaullican governments to vote against the best chance we have to condemn Chistovodia's imperialism in the Arucian!"

"While I believe that Estmere was entirely in the right in Zorasan, I can at least agree with those who condemn Estmere's actions on thing: international law is dead, Privitera said. "We have effectively given carte-blanche for bad faith actors like Zorasan, like Chistovodia, like Xiaodong and many of their ilk to molest the world's trade and to make the world a less safe place for all, and will force the hand of the free world, which is now led by Werania and Estmere, to defend themselves from the axis of evil and their outposts!"

"We must ensure that maritime law be enforced, be consistently clear, but allow for cases of self-defence, like what happened when Estmerish ships defended itself against Zorasani ships seeking to capture the Estmerish crew," Privitera said. "And as far as things are concerned, while Estmere has the right to defend itself, Chistovodia has no right to militarise the Arucian via establishing military bases in Maracao and other socialist countries."

Response from the opposition
Leader of the Official Opposition and the leader of the Sotirian Democratic Labour Party, Giocondo Stasio said in the Chamber of Commons that "while [the Sotirian Democratic Labour Party] agree on many points with the President's statements, his allegations that Chistovodia bribed Gaullica and Caldia to vote against the resolution is fundamentally untrue, and his claims that Estmere defended itself against Zorasan are objectively untrue. We would like the President to retract those comments alleging Chistovodia bribing Gaullica and Caldia, and his comments concerning the alleged Estmerish self-defence on Zorasan."

Movement for a New Imagua leader Dalmazio Pasquarello supported Privitera's comments, saying that "once again the President tells it as it is: there has to be a reason why Caldia and Gaullica are acting so out of character and supporting Chistovodia's imperialist ambitions. Must it be the Kirenian and Chistovodian money that's making them act like this?"

Green Party leader Mystelle Stone condemned Pritivera's speech as being "needlessly bellicose in a time when we Arucian brothers and sisters are facing militarisation. All these comments do are inflame tensions in the Arucian, and bring that frayed cord of the world order ever so closer to breaking apart."

Response from the Prime Minister's Office
Shortly after Privitera's statements were released, Prime Minister Douglas Egnell expressed consternation at President Edmondo Privitera's statements, with one of Egnell's staffers telling the ITS on the condition of anonymity that Egnell "wants the President to apologise for the speech that he has given earlier today," and saying that the Prime Minister is "considering any and all possible options to limit the President's access to the media, including social media networks, so that he does not damage Imagua's standing, or affect the chances of the Democratic Labour Party being re-elected."

While the Prime Minister's Office has issued no comment regarding President Privitera's speech, it is clear that Privitera's speech will attract the attention of the Prime Minister sooner or later.

The Prime Minister had an embarrassing hour and a half during Prime Ministers Questions (PMQs) as he was ridiculed by Labour and opposition leader Gerald Dewy for his previous comments just one week ago where he stated that "Chistovodia needs to be punished and those that vote against it are only fuelling Chistovodia's ego".

Opposition leader Gerald Dewy told the house that "[The Prime Minister] has stood here, in front of the house, and told us that countries would vote with him! He's not only embarrassed himself, Mr Speaker, but he's embarrassed the country!

Warwick defended his actions stating that "this failed because countries in Coius and Euclea who don't understand and are not relevant voted against it, following in the footsteps of some major Euclean powers - they've endangered democracy and peace in the Arucian and in the Asterias - they have, they have!". CN Resolution 88.76 was voted against by a majority of CN members, including Montecara and Gaullica - with the former saying that it set a dangerous "precedent" for international law. Political commentators have expressed concerns at Warwick's defence, in which he opened fire on just about every country in Euclea and Coius who voted against the resolution, telling the house that "[Euclea] don't understand".

Warwick has yet to speak to the press, and the federal government has also yet to release a statement regarding the failure of the CN resolution which they had so full-heartedly backed.

KALNASPILIS, AUCURIA | February 25, 2021 - An unknown individual within Leikauskas Palace has leaked audio of President Žygimantas Barauskas viciously attacking the Euclean opponents of CN Resolution 88.76 in a conversation with his chief of staff, Euzebijos Karigailauskas, saying that their opposition to the bill was based in a lack of understanding of the threat posed by Chistovodian militarization of the Arucian.

The recording - which consists of audio only - appears to have been recorded yesterday, after news broke that CN Resolution 88.76 - backed jointly by Nuvania, Aucuria, and Satucin - had narrowly failed to pass the CN's General Assembly. While Aušra could not independently verify the audio, statements from the office of the president do suggest that the recording is legitimate and not a fabrication.

In the audio clip, Barauskas notes that many of the bill's Euclean opponents framed their opposition to the bill as based around the supposed hypocrisy of Estmere not being punished for alleged violations of international law in 2019, and claims that these Euclean opponents - explicitly naming the foreign ministers of Caldia and Gaullica - justify inaction in the face of Chistovodian aggression because "to those countries, what's happening [in the Arucian] is an intellectual exercise... the lives that could be lost to Chistovodian militarism, the rights threatened by the dictators they prop up, those are all intangible to them."

Barauskas continues by saying that these Euclean countries fail to understand the threat posed by Chistovodian militarization of the Arucian because their own liberties have not been threatened since the Great War or Solarian War, which ended 86 and 75 years ago this year respectively. He also tells Karigailauskas he expects further militaristic action by Chistovodia, rhetorically asking "Why worry about international law when half of Euclea is too toothless to enforce it?"

A full transcript of the leaked audio runs as follows:

Barauskas's criticism somewhat mirrors that of Satavian Prime Minister Arthur Warwick, who told Satavian legislators that "this [resolution] failed because countries in Coius and Euclea who don't understand and are not relevant voted against it".

Approached for a statement, the office of the president stated that it "will not comment on the contents of a private conversation between the president and his chief of staff, which is reflective of his personal beliefs and not of any official policy" and preemptively advised against any domestic or international political furore, saying that "President Barauskas is entitled to his personal thoughts". Leikauskas Palace did, however, vow to determine who was responsible for recording and leaking the audio, saying that they would "be reviewing measures to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive conversations and material".

The chancellery was not available for comment and, as of press time, no foreign government mentioned by Barauskas has responded to the remarks.

NEWS| South Kabu: Senat Rakyat votes against ending Negara Darurat
The bill which would have ended the State of Emergency didn't reach the 4/5ths majority required to pass

Ayukarta, South Kabu - After one week of debates within the South Kabuese legislature and a heated dispute between the Country's President and Premier, the South Kabuese Senat Rakyat did not reach the 216 votes needed to end the State of Emergency.

South Kabuese Premier Susilo Dwi is one of the main opponents to ending the Negara Darurat

One month after South Kabuese President Tirto Sutikno announced plans to end the Negara Darurat, the South Kabuese legislature has failed to reach the 4/5ths majority required to end the State of Emergency in a move that was condemned by President Sutikno as "anti-socialist". The failure of the People's Senate to approve the ending of the Negara Darurat is likely to cause problems for future legislation and reforms that President Sutikno has promised during his election bid.

The People's Senate voted 191 to 79 in favour of ending the state of emergency, this was 25 votes short of the 216 required to end the state of emergency, despite widespread public support of ending the State of Emergency the country's own hardline Communist Premier Susilo Dwi led opposition to the move which he sees as acknowledging Northern Sovereignty by South Kabu.

Of the 79 legislators who voted against the bill, almost all of them came from the BKMI Kidul faction of the governing party of South Kabu. The hardline faction became the largest faction in elections held last year overtaking the establishment Front Revolusi Bersatu which has traditionally been the largest and governing faction of the South-East Coian nation.

Members of the BKMI Kidul have gained notoriety for their hardline stance against North Kabu with Susilo Dwi himself calling for an invasion of the North to end the "Northern Problem". Members of the BKMI Kidul has also called for the annexation of Gaullica's Nouvel Anglet and Estmere's Kingsport all of which are claimed by South Kabu and referred to as the Wilayah Lor or Northern Territories.

President Tirto Sutikno faced off against Susilo Dwi in last year's Presidential election where Susilo gained 45% of all votes in the second round after Tirto Sutikno failed to reach a majority in the first round of voting. The hard fought campaign was remarkably close for Tirto who is the son of South Kabu's founding leader Sutikno Harjo who is revered in the nation as the Hero of Kabu.

In a statement following the defeat of the Bill by the Senate, President Tirto Sutikno bashed opponents of the bill and called their actions "Anti-Socialist" and "on the verge of betraying the revolution and our values". His heated rhetoric was seen as uncharacteristic by South Kabuese media, one daily newspaper in Ayukarta remarked that his speech was similar to speeches made by his father during the Kabu War when defectors from South Kabu fled to Northern controlled territories and bringing with them military and state secrets with them.

With the preferred option of ending the Negara Darurat gone, it is likely that Tirto will pursue a public referendum which would only need 50% of Legislators and voters to be in favour of ending the State of Emergency. According to government insiders, the South Kabuese government has made initial preparations for a Referendum to be held this Summer.

KESSELBOURG - In light of the failed Resolution 86.76 in the CN that sought to condemn Chistovodia for militarising the Arucian sea the Xiaodongese International Relations ministry has congratulated the CN for "recognising international maritime law and upholding the peace, security and prosperity of the Arucian sea[/i]". Minister Xu Bangguo stated that the vote proved clearly that "clear breaches of international law, such as Estmere's in 2019, are delineated from contentious but legal actions such as Chistovodia's redeployments in the Arucian sea". Xu also made clear Xiaodong's approval of Euclean countries such as Gaullica and Caldia ensuring that maritime law was respected "rather then the historical case of one rule for Euclea and another for the rest of the world".

Xiaodong joined other major powers such as Zorasan, Gaullica, Dezevau and Kirenia in voting against the condemnation which was put forward by Asterian states but mainly supported by far-right governments such as Estmere, Werania, Etruria and Senria. Xiaodong's vote has been seen as down to two factors - firstly to reaffirm its commitment to international law regarding the sea and avoiding precedents which undermine such law which would inevitably benefit expansionist thalassocracies. Secondly however Xiaodong's strong support against a condemnation can be seen as part of it's strategy to forge a deep partnership with Chistovodia.

Xiaodong's historical relations with Chistovodia - and indeed, the loosely defined socialist world - has fluctuated throughout time. In post-revolutionary Xiaodong differences between internationalist and national socialists led to relations to fray with the national socialists support for national principlism at odds with the international socialist movement's preferences. Ideological differences have often prevented closer cooperation between Xiaodong and socialist nations with Xiaodong remaining true to its fourth order distinct from global communism, plutocratic liberalism and neo-functionalism.

Yet under the direction of Yuan Xiannian and Xi Yaotong Xiaodong has sought to promote the idea of "consensus development", a policy direction that seeks to end the neoliberal development models imposed on the developing world by Euclean and wealthy Asterian nations in favour of south-south cooperation crafting a new consensus on development policies that emphasises industrial growth, national sovereignty and sustainability. To achieve this consensus Yuan has pursued closer ties with socialist nations which are often opposed to the neoliberal plutocracies that dominate development policy to help further this policy on an international.

Cooperation between Chistovodia and Xiaodong remains underdeveloped however. Both nations have indicated they wish to increase investment in each other's countries especially in infrastructure but these projects remain largely unrealised. A proposal to liberalise visa's for Xiaodongese students remains mired in controversy in Chistovodia over a litany of issues. A more successful sign of cooperation between the two countries is Chistovodian financial and technical assistance in Xiaodong's healthcare system with Chistovodia sending over hundreds of doctors to train Xiaodongese counterparts in administering affordable treatments in Xiaodong's efforts to create a universal healthcare system by 2023.

Chistovodia's assertive foreign policy and the condemnations it receives from neo-functionalists and plutocrats however has led to Xiaodongese leaders to see this as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with Chistovodia. Like Chistovodia Xiaodong is often unfairly criticised by the so-called liberal powers for an "aggressive foreign policy" - in reality simply measures to ensure its own peace and security - which gives both countries a natural reason to at least support each other in international disputes such as these.

In this, Yuan differs from his recent predecessors - leaders such as Yang Zhengming and Han Guanzheng sought to instead promote ties with countries such as Satucin to improve economic links with more free market Asterian nations. However recent anti-Xiaodongese rhetoric from "liberal" nations has made this policy less attractive.

Xiaodongese leaders have shown a clear preference for boosting their strategic interest in Asteria in recent years and have seemingly chosen Chistovodia as one of its primary partners. Whether relations with Chistovodia will be strengthened or Rongzhuo will instead pivot to its old partner Gatôn remains to be seen.

Bondor visits President as RSF calls for his resignation

Novigrad - Acting president of Ravnia, Joseph Bondor, visited President Abramov at Novigrad Central Hospital today. Bondor stated that he was visiting the president to: "Check up on my friend and colleague, and to ask for his advice." This comes over a week after Bondor assumed the presidency from Abramov on the 12th, since then Bondor has focused on regaining control of Ravnias cities from protest groups. His methods for doing this have been criticized by both sides of parliament, with his move to deploy reserve army units being seen as "authoritarian" by the RSF.

Amidst this criticism and outcry, several prominent RSF MP's have begun calling for Bondors resignation. These calls for resignation have been ignored for now, but it would seem as if the anti-Bondor movement in parliament is growing, as even some NCF MP's have joined the call for Bondors resignation.

The survey conducted between 21st and 23rd February on 1500 people shows more support for condemnation rather than against it

The resolution to condemn Chistovodia, officially known as the resolution 88.76 of the Community of Nations, failed, with 32 countries voting against it and 27 in favour of. Of course, some parts of the world decided to abstain, reasons different and many. Gapolania was one of them. And the decision still echoes within the political scene in the republic. Is this the first step towards the fall of the right-wing coalition?

Chistovodia is close enough to Gapolania to matter. Economically and politically. People know that, the government knows that. Ivano Cerbone, leader of the Supportist Party, used anti-socialist narrative to snatch a win in the general elections in 2013 for his right-of-centre coalition Justice and Restoration, commonly known as GeR. Yet when it came to proving that his words were actually true, Gapolania abstained from voting to condemn Chistovodia, a socialist bastion in the Asterias. And he could have got away with it if it wasn't for the infamous destroyer transaction that we witnessed a week ago. The internet was quick to pick it up: "Opportunist Party of Gapolania" and #partiaopportunista became trending terms on the social media.

Comments vary. Supportist Party took a defensive stance, pushing the guilt back to the Socialist Party, that signed the contract with Chistovodia to produce a small fleet by the end of 2022. The National Movement, a growing right-wing party, criticized Cerbone and the delegate to the Community of Nations. "We did't have much say in it", says Alessandro Bagliari, the party's leader. "Once again Cerbone showed he doesn't care much for the coalition. Maybe we should leave it and see how he fares in the August elections". Enrico Lucini, head of the Enough! initiative, was more passive in his reaction, expressing concern, mostly. "A situation like that should have not taken place here. The country cannot, on one hand, oppose a certain ideology, while quietly supporting it on the other", he stated in a short interview.

A crack like that has never before appeared on the shiny armor of the ruling coalition. And polls don't lie - the people grow tired of the Justice and Restoration, now that the socialists have reformed and there's no one to blame for Cerbone's fails.The support for GeR coalition fell from 37.3% in October 2020 to 25.1% in February 2021, with more points expected to be lost in the aftermath of the resolution voting. But they still seem to keep a firm lead. Civic Union, the loose coalition of liberals, who finished second in the general elections, can count on only 14.9% of the popular vote. People seem to favor the New Left team, including the Socialists, Greens and Inidigenous parties - according to the recent polls, they can expect up to 19.2% of the votes. Is it time for the pink tide to swept over the country once again?

In reality - it's hard to say. Maggiacomo's second term is ending and GeR lack another charismatic leader that could lead them to another win. On the other hand, they have numbers - and if they'll be able to make amends with their allies, blue August seems likely. Experts suggest that the socialists and liberals should put forward a joint candidate for the presidential seat - such as Elisa Perranazzu, a leader of the Freedom Party, known for her optimistic energy and honesty. But the Civic Union lacks the ability to convince the general population, especially outside of the larger cities. It's up to the New Left - cautious in their moves - to decide what path to take. Sure thing is, the conservatives will do everything in their power to use the left's weaknesses against them. While there's still nearly half of year left and the electoral campaigns haven't started yet, the first moves are being made right now.

Church of the Transfiguration bombed by gorale

SECHIA, MAŁOMIERSA - Today, the Church of the Transfiguration was bombed by the gorale terrorist group Aranoak, marking their first terrorist attack since they announced the end of their so-called "ceasefire" and the resumption of hostilities against the Miersan nation. The blast took place near the end of the orthros, at 05:47, killing five people, including the priest, and wounding fourteen others.

The explosion was at the nave, causing substantial damage to the interior of the church, with the iconostasis being "severely damaged" by the blast according to police. Nearby residents reported that the windows of the church were blown out, as well as the appearance of cracks on the exterior walls.

Aranoak confessed to the attacks in a video message, saying that the attacks were a "strike against the Miersan Episemialist Church, who for generations have played a role in erasing" the so-called "Lemovician nation," and that as long as Małomiersa remains a part of the Miersan nation, "we will continue to fight for our freedom."

Upon hearing about the attacks in Sechia, President Sylwester Wrzesiński expressed his condolences to the victims of the terrorist attack, and stated that "for too long, we have been too soft on the gorale, on the terrorists. While it is true that our current strategies had been working well to reduce the number of terrorist incidents, this recent resurgence of the Aranoak shows that it is time to crush them once and for all." Wrzesiński promised that in the coming days, "we will see stronger action taken against the gorale threat, and crack down on any potential link that the gorale have to Aranoak."

Patriarch Krystian Rudzik of the Miersan Episemialist Church condemned the attack, describing it as "an attack on Sotiras himself," and sent his condolences to the friends and families of the victims. He has vowed that the church will be restored to its original glory, and to ensure that no attack like it will occur again against any church in Miersa.

GOVERNMENT TO PROPOSE "ACCESS TO SANITARY PRODUCTS" WITHIN SCHOOLS.
The government is set on tabling legislation that would guarantee teenagers having access to free sanitary products within their schools.

The PSD/LV government announced today that it was preparing legislation that would expand the access to sanitary products for teenagers within schools, as well as make the existing sanitary product schemes free. Currently, schools in Gaullica do not offer any means of acquiring female sanitary products.

The existing schemes, which cover condoms as part of the reshuffling of sexual education in the 1990s, still require the students to pay for them. This has also been reported by numerous schools still practicing the required course on 'abstinence' that was put forward in a compromise of legislation between CLU and Conservative lawmakers and the Catholic Church.

Olivier Alméras, the Minister for Health, described the updating of this legislation as "completely necessary for a healthy society". He said that the "existing measures do not go far enough" and that they were "biased to a single sex".

Alméras sponsored the bill alongside his colleague Guillaume Beauchamp, the Minister for Education, who described it as "utterly fundamental to the wellbeing of the youths". He stated to the Première Chambre that it was "fundamentally sexist" to firstly only cater to male sexual health. He then added that a "price-tag for this right, not luxury, creates an imbalance in the school system. Not only does it place poorer households, the ones who would benefit from the scheme the most, at a disadvantage -- but studies show it has created an inadvertent 'pecking order'."

Beauchamp told the assembled senators that "what you are seeing in schools is those who can afford the sexual health products are using them as status symbols".

The bill seeks to not only equalise both sexes in their acquisition of goods, but would see the sanitary products provided by the school nursing facilities 'for free'. The bill would also completely remove the necessity for the 'abstinence' classes that were added when condoms were first introduced. Whilst a government amendment rendered the classes voluntary, rather than compulsory, schools in rural areas and in some cities continue to prioritise these classes in sexual health.

Such a bill has been criticised by members of the Gaullican Conservative party and the Catholic Labour Union. Augustin de Troumpe criticised the bill as "encouraging sexual relations between children in the schools".

Church faculty have also expressed disapproval; and the Bishop of Verlois has informed Le Monde that he intends on "writing a scathing critique" of this legislation.

The President has completely endorsed the contents of this theoretical bill, arguing that "its time to join all other countries that have seen these kinds of progressive platforms and policies that, ultimately, lower teenage pregnancies, lower the stigma surrounding sexuality and sex, and cease the creation of social imbalances in the classroom."

Security alarm incident in Cirnan nuclear reactor

Earlier today, alarms in the Cirnan Nuclear Power Plant outside Vevetsia went off causing major concerns and igniting safety protocols inside the plant's 2nd reactor. Minister of Energy Ksenia Hordiyenko stated that alarms went off inside the reactor at 7:31 am, and that the plant was shut off as per safety procedures set by the Ministry of Energy. Ksenia who had actually just toured the facility the week prior stated that “All safety protocols and guidelines were followed to the letter, and the plant personnel were highly professional with their handling of the situation.” remarked Ksenia who assumed the post back in November.

This isn't the first time a safety alarm was triggered in Cirnan, back on the afternoon of June 21st 2018 an alarm sounded while president Ersnt Rupold was touring the facility. Another alarm on the 29th of June raised concerns on the issue of the safety protocols of the facility, following a 3 month planned shutdown for inspection and maintenance between August-October the alarm went off this time on the 1st reactor the 12th and 21st of August. Following review by the Ministry of Energy and by international entities the facility was reopened on the 6th of November.

Ksenia approved a 1 month long shutdown of the nuclear power plant for review and inspection, and stated that thorough inspection of the plant would follow. Members in parliament called on the Ministry of Energy to produce a report on the state of Vinalian Nuclear Reactors. The current Secretary on nuclear energy Vadim Loboda could not be reached for comment but his office stated the secretary was on his way from Soravia, and that a report would be presented to parliament as soon as possible. The news of the alarm has sparked once more the Anti-nuclear movement in Vinalia prompting large protests and marches in several cities. Green party members could be seen marching with General secretary of the party, Yana Perepelytsya seen marching in Vinalinsk and called on Vinalia to abandon nuclear energy for cheaper renewable power.

"They took our children away and massacred them!" The shocking testimonies of Mabifian Sotirians in the CGB

The end of February is normally a calm weather, even in the CVC, marking the end of the Bifi and the return of the Ndjarendie herders to their own lands on the Boual. For us, the Sotirians who have suffered for a long time under the Irfanic and Ndjarendie Suprematist regime of Mahmadou Jolleh-Bande, it is a period of calm after the fear brought by the nomads. We can breathe freely, go to church as we want, in short live as we should have the right to live.

But this year the calm was broken. Yesterday, after a dispute about the value of a few cows at the central market in Imbala, a Sotirian Ekole woman called the ndjarendie seller of the cows an "infidel", an insulting but technically correct word. The seller, seriously insulted, summoned his friends, explaining to them that the Sotirians had committed a lot of unforgivable blasphemies and that they had to be taught a terrible and unforgettable lesson. Their target? The catechism school which took place this Sunday and which had 29 students, little boys who had nothing but hopes and the love of God in their childish hearts.

The massacre took place in the afternoon, when the children had finished their lessons and returned with big smiles to see their mamas and dads. Suddenly about 20 armed men with machetes and rifles came out of a truck shouting praises to Khoda, their supposedly merciful god. They quickly killed the little kids, blood flowing in the street, before starting to set fire to the Church of Sainte-Rita. Their diabolical job finished, this bunch of cowards flees, without the police saying a single word or doing anything to stop them.

Le fin de Février est normalement un temps sereine, même dans la CVC, marquant la fin de la bifie et le retour des éleveurs ndjarendies vers leurs propres terres sur le Boual. Pour nous, les sotiriens qui souffrent depuis longtemps sous la régime irfanique et ndjarendosuprématiste de Mahmadou Jolleh-Bande, c'est une période de calme après le peur qu'amènent les nomades. Nous pouvons respirer librement, aller à l'église comme nous voulons, en bref vivre comme nous devrions avoir le droit de vivre.

Mais cette année, la calme fut brisée. Hier, après un désagrément sur la valeur de quelques vaches au marché central de Imbala, une femme ekole sotirienne appela le vendeur des vaches ndjarendie comme « infidèle », un mot insultant mais techniquement correct. Le vendeur, gravement insulté, convoqua ses amis en leur expliquant que les sotiriens avaient commis un tas de blasphèmes impardonnables et qu'il fallait leur apprendre un leçon terrible et inoubliable. Leur cible ? L'école de catéchisme qui avait lieu cette dimanche et qui comptait 29 élèves, petits garçonnets qui n'avaient rien que des espoirs et l'amour de dieu dans leurs cœurs enfantins.

Le massacre se deroula dans l'après-midi, quand les enfants avaient finis leurs cours et retournaient avec des grands sourires pour voir leurs mamas et papas. Tout un coup, environ 20 hommes armés avec des machettes et fusils sortirent d'un camion en criant des louanges à Khoda, leur dieu soi-disant miséricordieux. Ils tuèrent vite les petits gamins, le sang coulant dans la rue, avant de commencer à mettre feu à l'Eglise de Sainte Rita. Leur travail diabolique fini, ce bande des lâches fuit, sans que les policiers disent qu'un seul mot ou qu'ils fassent rien pour les empêcher.

Malheureusement, ce genre d'inaction par la part des autorités est le normal ici en Mabifie, où la majorité irfanique règne avec la peur et nous, les fidèles de Jésus Sotiras, crions avec angoisse chaque jour. Estefania Blázquez, the famed Marchenian utilitarian who advocated for individual liberty, famously remarked in her work 'La Libertad' that there was "the corruption of universal responsibility" plaguing Asteria Superior. Though she wrote the work from her home in Caldia given the fact that La Dictablanda ruled Marchenia, she was criticising the unabashed collectivism espoused by the so-called 'Workers' State of Chistovodia'.

Often, politicians in Gaulencia and Misto Myru will pay lip-service to the idea that there can be compromise. There can be a roundtable for the discussion of responsibility, détente and peace in our time.

This opinion piece is to showcase to you that this is an impossibility; and a hollow promise on the part of Misto Myru.

Three weeks after this work was published, Chistovodia and Marchenia had gone to war. It was the spring of 1961 and after years of incursions, paramilitary support, training and funding, and sponsored terrorist attacks the Marchenian government issued a formal declaration of war against Chistovodia. I am not here to write a scathing history on the legality, morality or purpose of the Chistovodian-Marchenian War, or as its called in Marchenia: 'la represalia'.

A long, bloody and sordid affair this conflict left little change in the Asterias. Chistovodia found itself diplomatically isolated, but it often always was, and had lost contested border territory. Even today, the area is under all technicality a demilitarised zone that is "perpetually occupied" by Marchenian soldiers. The Community of Nations does not recognise it as territory belonging to either party, but in all effect it is operated and maintained as part of Marchenia.

Ultimately, the war led to several international changes. It was a major catalyst for the formation of the Treaty of Shanbally. It opened up Chistovodia socially and economically, for some time, as dogmatic Council Communism was pushed to the sideline for modernist reformers -- and it devasted the long-term survivability of the Marchenian regime.

There can be no discussion on policy between Chistovodia and Marchenia without discussing this conflict. There can be no understanding of how Chistovodia operates as a power without taking this conflict into account. It began its now notorious "pivot south", courting states like Belmonte and Hullivia away from Satucin. It saw the country shift from openly hostile to a country with a facade of friendliness, opting to associate itself in pan-Asterian organisations that did not encroach on its internal market. As far as Chistovodia is concerned: Asteria Superior is united against it.

One only has to look at their actions over the past six months following the eruption of the Pico de Sangue and conclude there was little change in the mentality that drove them to war in the 60s. You can find evidence even further back, in 2019, with Misto Myru approving of a seizing of a Satucine freighter. Chistovodia enjoys pressing the limits of what it can get away with on the international stage: and unconcerned Eucleans and Coians have handed them immunity through impunity.

So, we have to ask ourselves: why are they like this? Why is it an impossibility?

In an earlier work I described Chistovodia being run by something I called: "The Young Guard", staunch Council Communists and leftists who dogmatically see the world as either participating in the revolution or actively working or conspiring against it. Whilst I used it to refer to the entirety of the General Congress and Presidium of the country in specific last time, I've come to make a correction. An addendum.

In its truest sense, 'The Young Guard' is a play on the fact that three of its most powerful roles are run by individuals who are over the age of 75. Chistovodia may be the most gerontocratic state in the Asterias; though has gone through far strides to try to distance itself from that fact. Old and white could be the words used to describe the Workers' State's government, though Premier Cuvillier is clearly their poster-child for why that isn't the case.

President Viktor Martynenko, Defence Minister Stanislaw Yaroshenko and Foreign Minister Kazymyr Didyk share many things in common. Most unknown outside of Chistovodia is the fact that all three of them were either servicemen at the outbreak of the Chistovodian-Marchenian War, or were conscripted into fighting that conflict. The conflict that left little of a mark on the consciousness of Marchenia's democratic government, because it was fought by our neo-functionalist dictatorship, has not had the same affect in Chistovodia. It is the same political regime that ruled in the 60s that rules now.

Except this time the rulers were directly involved on the frontlines of that conflict. As far as Martynenko, Yaroshenko and Didyk are concerned we are an 'eternal enemy', liberalism in the Asterias is an 'eternal enemy', because they've seen it. They've seen it try to shoot at them, they've seen it "occupy" Chistovodian territory and they've been moulded by the experiences they've seen to come to see what we stand for as something that is the antithesis to them.

When he was elected as President in 2016, Martynenko described his military experience as "the most formative years of [his] life." He would go on to say that he "experienced the beauty and camaraderie of the human spirit in the urban sprawl fighting in the city of Okhoche". Okhoche, by the way, is considered to be occupied by the Chistovodian government.

Everything that Chistovodia promises often comes with a "but" or an "if", notably when Didyk promised de-escalation if the NVO de-escalated first. There is no "first-step" in Misto Myru because these people view it as submitting to an enemy they can no longer submit to. For pride purposes, for stupidity, for genuine belief in their ideology or even to just keep the population pacified in some form of fear of an external enemy -- its inconsequential. It merely happens.

It should be clear to all readers now that there is a conflict of interest here. Any attempt at de-escalation is impossible when the individuals who run the state promising it have no intention to do so. They were born and bred in conflict and understand their states as existing in a cold war of that conflict.

Everything Chistovodia does cannot be taken in a vacuum: there is a grander strategy at play. Why on earth do they need a missile cruiser in middle of the Arucian? What purpose does it serve outside of agitation and having southern Marchenian cities in the range of missile strikes? Why has Chistovodia increased the duration of its mandatory conscription from a year to eighteen months?

Because, I reiterate, their promises are empty and distractions.

I can assure you: as long as these three have a say in Chistovodian politics there will be no de-escalation because it suits them for this fight to continue. We either have to hope by some miracle that new, younger faces, rise throughout the party soon: or we wait for socialised medicine to kill them.

'The Border War' never ended in the minds of these tyrants; its merely on hold. And in their eyes they are winning the international community's support: one nation at a time.
